Chapter 3 - "Out come the knives"

In which Will and Mike both discover something unnerving.. and Henry remains in the dark.

Fredbear’s Family Diner. The place where it all fell apart. How could a place so lively hold such tragedy?

William Afton walked through the closed off diner, past the tables with festive tablecloths, past the bloodstains on the stage that wouldn’t come out no matter how hard he scrubbed it. He remembered when this place was alive, children running around happily, gazing up at Bonnie and Fredbear with wonder in their tiny eyes. That all seemed like decades ago now, even if it had only been months. 

This used to be a place of joy. 

What was it now?

He walked through the door to the back rooms, the happy, cheery atmosphere falling way to the dark corridors, the buzz of fluorescent lights overhead. It was almost like walking between worlds. The bright outer shell of an animatronic, and the cruel machinery underneath. 

Will was absently scratching at the scars on his neck, despite being told not to. It itched horribly, even with the stitches removed. He ignored the way the scabs burst. He ignored the sticky blackness staining the collar of his shirt. It didn’t matter. 

He opened the door to the workshop. 

Something wasn’t right. 

Fredbear was gone.

“Why…”  It was an overwhelming feeling of dread. Dread and nothing more. He really was gone this time, wasn’t he. 

Henry had been here last. 

Of course, of course he wouldn’t be content to take him away once, but again, right after Will finally had him back. It was like a taunt, wasn’t it? Dangle hope in front of his face, only to rip it away before he can reach out and take it. 

His fingernails dug into the flesh of his arms, tearing away at the scabbed over scarring, but it just didn’t matter. 

He’s gone. 

“At least you’re still here buddy, isn’t that right?” Will picked up the head of his springlock suit, surprised to find that Henry had cleaned most of the blood from the internal machinery, even if the yellow fur was stained red around the seams. 

“How cruel, he took your partner away from you, didn’t he? I'm so sorry, Bonnie. We’re gonna make this right, aren’t we?” He lightly moved the head up and down, so it looked as if the animatronic was nodding. 

“That’s what I thought!”

“Hey da-” Micheal paused in the doorway to the kitchen, frozen in place at the sight of the golden head on his father’s shoulders, long rabbit ears sticking up in the air. “...d..?”

“Hmm?” Will turned around to look at him, holding a kitchen knife in his hand, the ears flopped along with his movements, but Micheal could see familiar silver eyes through the mask. 

“...What are you… doing..?”

“Just making Lizzie a sandwich, do you want one?” Sure enough, he had all the proper sandwich ingredients laid out, the sandwich cut neatly into triangles, just how Elizabeth liked it. 

“N-no, I’m good.” Mike quickly turned away, walking back to his room. 

“Alright then, have fun fending for yourself.” He laughed. 

Mike looked back over his shoulder at the laughing rabbit, resolving not to let this one slide. “So… What’s with the bunny mask..?”

“What was that?” He tilts his head, finally putting the knife down on the counter. 

“..Nothing.”

“So! What do you think?” 

“I like the ideas you have here, with the new bandmates, but maybe we should change the colors, instead of them all being gold?” Henry looked over the designs Will had drawn out, pleased with what was there. The chicken and fox would be great additions to the band. 

At least he hadn’t tried to use springlock suits again. 

“Hmm.. You’re right! Oooh, we could make Bonnie purple!” 

“Purple? Why purple?” 

“Well it’s my favorite color, obviously.” Will laughed. 

“Fair enough. Freddy could be a brown bear, and Chica could have yellow feathers…” 

He nods. “And then Foxy could be red, it’s Micheal’s favorite color.” 

“Perfect.” Henry smiles, it felt like forever since he got to actually make something with Will. He missed it. 

“Now we just have to put them together- and I could see us reopening in just another year! New and improved!” Will was smiling, in a genuine way this time, Henry hadn’t seen that smile since before…

“Hey, Will, here’s a bit of an odd request-” 

“Hmm?” 

Henry took a photograph out of his pocket, showing it to Will. It was a picture of Charlie, holding in her arms a small stuffed toy, like a Raggedy Ann doll painted to resemble a mime. “It’d mean a lot to her if we could maybe create something that looked like that doll. I’m not sure if it's even possible, but I want to try.” 

William thought to himself for a moment, considering how to make an animatronic with such a thin frame, and on a more humanoid base, too.. “What if it was suspended from the ceiling by wires attached to its limbs, like a marionette?” 

“That might just work..” 

“No way to tell but to test it, right?” 

“Right.” He looked up at Will with a smile, though his face fell at the sight of the grisly scars around his neck. “...How are you feeling?” 

“Hmm? Oh-” Will adjusted the collar of his shirt slightly, trying to hide the circular scars, but it didn’t quite work. Why were there ink stains on his collar? “I’m fine, it’s just a bit itchy, doesn’t even hurt anymore!” That, of course, was a lie. 

It finally clicked for Henry why the other man was wearing his work gloves the whole time. “At least you didn’t lose any motor function in your hands, these sketches are just as good as they’ve always been.” 

“Why thank you-!” He took out another sheet of paper, and started sketching ideas for the new animatronic. “What should we name it?”

“Puppet, that’s what Charlie calls it.”

Will wrote ‘Puppet’ over the sketch in cursive. “Done.” 

“She’ll love it. Thank you, Will.” 

“Of course, you still gotta help me build the thing!” 

“Hah, I will, don’t worry.” 

— 

“I think something’s wrong with dad.” 

“What do you mean? Is he sick?” Elizabeth looked up at him with wide eyes, the green such a contrast to Micheal and William’s gray eyes. Everyone knew she wasn’t blood related, they didn’t have to ask. 

“You mean you haven’t noticed?? He’s been acting super weird, like, weirder than usual, didn’t you see that mask?” 

“What mask?” 

“You- you haven’t seen it? 

“Didn’t you always wear a mask around too?” 

“Well yeah but- this is different! Mine’s just plastic- that one’s like, a whole animatronic’s head!”

“Oh, like one of those springy suits!” 

“A what?” 

“It’s like an animal-tronic but you can wear it like a costume!” 

“Springlocks. It’s springlocks.” Mike’s face goes a little pale, thinking back to what Henry said. Springlock failure, that’s what put his dad in the hospital, that’s what that bunny is. Springlocks. The damn thing’s a deathtrap and he’s wearing it around like it’s nothing. 

Maybe he really has gone mental. 

“Springlocks! That’s what it was! Daddy says Bonnie and Fredbear are both springlock suits!”

Mike shuddered. Fredbear. He didn’t want to think about that giant yellow bear ever again. Hopefully dad destroyed the damned thing, ripped it to shreds, burnt it to the ground, whatever it took. 

“I hope they never reopen. I’d be happy if I never had to see another damned robot!” 

“That’s not very nice!” 

“I don’t care.” He stuck out his tongue. 

“Mikey, you’re not very nice.” 

“I know.”

Henry Emily was performing on stage again, behind the guise of a golden bear, singing a familiar song, all with William Afton- no- Bonnie at his side, playing the guitar. The children in the audience cheered, their bright eyes focused on the two of them. 

He could hear the locks snap open, one by one, methodical clinks as the gears unwound into his flesh. 

The children all froze, staring at the blood seeping out of Fredbear’s fur. 

Henry screamed out, but it was already much too late, he knew it was, but why wasn’t Will doing anything? 

“H-help…” It was getting hard to speak, hard to even keep screaming, the springs choked his throat. 

William was laughing, the ears on his matching mask bobbing up and down with the motion. 

Children screamed in the audience, some running away, others just staring up, in a state of shock. 

Henry felt a hand on his arm, a small one, like that of a child. 

“Daddy?” 

“C..Char..lie..?”

“Wake up!” 

Henry slowly opened his eyes, before jolting awake suddenly, relieved to find himself back in his bed, and not torn to ribbons inside a springlock suit. 

“Were you having nightmares again?” Charlie was looking up at him in the dark, holding onto his arm with one hand, and her puppet doll with the other. 

“..I was, but I’m okay now. Thanks for waking me up.” 

She shoves the doll into his arms, trying to get him to take it. “Puppet will keep all the scary dreams away.” 

He laughs softly, handing it back to her. “I’ll be okay, you need him more than I do.” 

“Okay… But next time you’re having bad dreams, promise you’ll take him!” 

“I promise.”

You're half awake and disorientated. Valentino got up to find out who was at the door 10 minutes ago, and frankly, you're getting worried.

Against your better judgement, you throw on his shirt from the night before and make your way out of the bedroom.

You enter the living room to be met face to face with Vox.

Shit.

You briefly wonder if you can play it off, fabricate a story, tell him it's not what it looks like!

Apart from, it's exactly what it looks like.

Someone from Vox's assistance team saw you and Val enter his room together after the meeting. And now you're here, in his living room, wearing nothing but his shirt. And your shoes are by the front door. And there's a wine glass abandoned on the counter.

There's no getting out of this one.

Valentino wants to scream, yell at you to go back to his room. He wants to pick you up and throw you out of sight, praying Vox hasn't noticed all the tell tale signs. But it's too late. He has.

"Okay. Uh - what the fuck is going on?"

Vox asks the question while looking between the two of you like some sort of cartoon character doing a double take. It doesn't require a genius to figure it out, but he needs to hear one of you say it out loud.

"Listen, Vox-"

"Vox, don't get mad-"

You both speak at the same time, verbally tripping over each other. You've never actually discussed what you'd do or say if you got found out. You both just always naively assumed it wouldn't happen.

You sit down on the edge of the couch, and look at your boss earnestly.

You had earned his respect with all the years you'd been working for him, creating and animating shows for the Vees.

However, you knew it could all disappear.

It would be a lie to say you didn't see it coming, what was true is that you weren't ready for it.

"Vox, I'm not going to sit here and lie to you. It isn't fair. But you can't get mad when I tell you the truth."

"I'll be the judge of that," he mutters sassily.

"Will you come and sit with me, please? The standing is making me nervous. I feel like I'm on trial."

"You might be. I haven't decided yet."

You can't tell if he's joking. He's certainly not smiling.

Vox moves to sit down next you. Val follows, perching himself on the opposite end to give you space. Close enough if you need him, far enough that it won't upset your boss more.

"Start talking," he commands, still confused.

"It's... well I - we - me and Valentino, we're -"

"Together," Val finishes for you. Vox glares at him, and he decides he'll keep his mouth shut for a while.

"Yeah, we're together," you continue. "We have been for over a year. It isn't just sex, or anything. I'm like- in love with him."

It's weird to finally bear this truth after keeping it a secret for so long. It feels wrong, but also refreshing - like a bitter lemon on a hot day.

Vox is scarily silent.

"You're... kidding, right?" he asks, finally breaking through the quiet.

Your silence is enough answer for you as he looks at you incredulously.

"You're so fuckin' naive." He turns over to Valentino. "How can you sit here and act like this doesn't change anything?"

Val tries to speak, but he continues.

"You lied to me, first off. Both of you. For God knows how long-"

"Vox-"

"Let me fucking finish."

You shrink back into the couch, hoping it would swallow you.

"You both lied to me. You broke my trust... and uh, that fucking hurts, actually. And then there's the business side of things. They work for me, they work for the Vees. And, I don't know if you remember, but you are a Vee. That's a conflict of interest."

Val scoffs at him, but then realises he's deadly serious.

"... A conflict of interest?"

"It's against company policy. How am I going to trust you? How is anyone? Information might get leaked. What if I tell you something, and then you tell them?" He points over to you. "And then they tell whoever friends they have, and they post about it on social media, and all of a sudden nothing is private anymore. I. Can't. Trust. You."

Tears are welling up in your eyes quicker than you can control. You're trying to take deep breaths, begging yourself not to cry in front of Vox.

"You do get this is my life right? I get to choose whoever I date," Val whispers.

"Yeah? Well, it's my life. And they're MY worker. And I get to choose whatever I'll do to them."

A choked sob escapes you, and the floodgates open. Fresh, hot tears sprint down your cheeks, landing in your lap.

Vox doesn't care about your suffering, he just wants to punish Valentino through you.

Val can't stand to sit and watch any longer.

"Okay, Vox, that's enough. This isn't fair."

"What's not fair is that two of people I trust the most both lying to my face for a year. That's what isn't fucking fair."

With that, Vox stands up and strides towards the front door, slamming it behind him as he leaves. The minute he's gone, Valentino is wrapping his arms around you, pulling you into his chest.

"It's okay, darling," he murmurs, stroking your hair. "He'll come around. We'll be okay. If we stick together, we'll be okay."

His reassurances are only making you cry harder, sobs escaping you uncontrollably. You eventually exhaust yourself, falling into a restless sleep in Val's arms on the couch.

You wake up in bed. You've temporarily forgotten the events of the morning, before it all comes crashing back down around you suddenly. Distantly, you can hear Valentino in the kitchen, talking on the phone. You look around the room, and know what you have to do.

You leave the bedroom with a bag in hand, throwing it onto the ground as you grab your shoes. Val clocks you, and hangs up the phone.

"Can I call you back? Thanks. I'll see you tomorrow."

He runs over to where you're slipping your heels on, precariously balanced against the side of the couch.

"Honey, where are you going?" he questions, panic washing over him at your frantic state. "Wait, have you packed a bag?"

He's trying to catch your eyes, but you keep looking away, desperate to avoid his unrelenting gaze.

"I'm going home."

A pause.

"... This is your home."

You knew he'd say that. It hurts just the same.

"No, Valentino, this is your home. My apartment is across town."

"You haven't been there in months. All your stuff is here. Baby, talk to me. What's going on? Did Vox get in your head?"

"He has a point!" you shout, trying to pick up your bag. Val gets there first and grabs it, flinging it behind him, out of your reach.

"About what? He's just in shock, baby! He's confused and he feels betrayed. You don't owe him fuckin' anything. Not after everything that he has put you through."

"But I love my job, Val. I can't lose everything I've worked so hard to achieve!"

"You love that piece of shit job? Yesterday you literally had to get up at 6 am just to get here and get yelled at for an hour and a half. Look- I love Vox but he's not a good boss. Hell! I don't even care about that, I just can't stand to see him abuse you and treat you like you're close to nothing. You're better off without him and you know it. You're just too attatched to what you have."

Subconsciously, you know he's right. You're trying to convince yourself he isn't.

"You don't get it though."

"Except I do. Do you think I don't know about Vox's methods? I understand that it's what he needs to do to get the job done, but... I just can't stand him treating you like that."

"You heard what he said! He won't trust you anymore. No one will. Besides, I know it's shitty, but my job is important to me. I can't be forgotten. Known only as an old failed artist."

"Trust me, honey, you're the least likely to be named a failure."

"That's not the point! You're not listening to me. I come from the bottom, I've had to fight for respect every fucking day of my life. I'm finally where I deserve to be. I can't throw it all away for... for love!"

Valentino flinches like you've punched him in the gut. He takes a step back and leans against the kitchen island, trying to keep his balance.

"What happened to 'you and me against the world', huh?" he murmurs.

"I think I got too wrapped up in this - in us. I was stupid to think it could work. We both were."

"I wasn't," he replies defiantly. "I knew exactly what I was getting into. I knew it would be really fucking difficult and I loved you anyway."

"I'm not sorry for loving you," you whisper. "I'm sorry for a lot of things, but never for loving you."

"If you meant that, you wouldn't be giving up."

You turn your head around, unable to look at him any longer.

"This isn't giving up. This is... quitting while we're ahead. If we keep going, we'll just end up having a huge, horrible, public breakup," you stop, and take a deep breath. "I think we were always doomed to fail."

Valentino thinks about the diamond ring that sits in a box in the top drawer of his nightstand. Doomed to fail.

You finally look up at him, and all the air leaves your lungs. You've never seen him look so defeated, so vulnerable. You're the cause of this. And you hate yourself for it.

You pad across the kitchen and pick up your bag from where he threw it, before stopping in front of him.

"I don't regret you, Valentino. I never will."

With that, you stride out of the front door, closing it gently behind you. Val is left, cold and empty, in a room that no longer feels like home.

Update/Note 4/25/2024

Hey, how goes it? So, September Sky is getting close to where I'm at in the editing process, so soon enough it will slow down on how often parts are being uploaded. Don't worry, I started posting it here, and I'll finish off the story here. Second, I've slowed down a bit on my attempts at poetry. This is just because well, life is life, and there's quite a bit to do this time of year. With work, my youngest brother graduating, and trying to find a place I can call my own (that won't push me back into being completely broke again), I just don't really have the energy. The writing hasn't stopped, because anyone that sees my thumbprints knows that this isn't just writing for attention and that my fingers on the keys, or wrapped around a pen, is a type of medicine for me that keeps me stable and able to face my emotions. There's still hundreds of notes in my doc app, and there's notebooks being chiseled in every single day. It's the idea of fixing them and rearranging lines and breaks that takes a lot of energy. Don't worry, there's an infinite supply always on its way. I couldn't stop if I tried. And finally, I'm going to be starting to add yet another fictional story I've been working on for going on three years, and I think I'm ready for it to start being seen by others. it's on its eighth draft, and if I don't start sharing it, it'll end up with 100 drafts, and as obsessively as I write, that's past the point of making it better and into making something mechanical. It's horror/dark romance, which probably shouldn't surprise anyone who enjoys or reads my work. Right now, it's under the working title "The Horror of Our Love" (which will be changed once I actually think of something better) which is actually the title of a Ludo song that is amazing, and one of those songs that means the world to me, mainly from where I first heard it, and who had posted it to an old Facebook wall. The whole inspiration for the story came from that song and being unreasonably angry at the Twilight series completely destroying and making fun of the vampire mythos. So, think Twilight, with more blood, gore, violence, and anger. Twilight for horror purists and a much more mature audience. Maybe if Edward had ripped out someone's throat, it'd would been more of my kind of story. (And if you happen to like the Twilight books, I'm not interested in changing your opinion of the series. Love what you love. Especially when it comes to art, music, and the written word. You're allowed to like and love whatever it is you find, and don't let anyone ever take that away from you. I still read the Animorphs series every so often. And I fucking love it. And Goosebumps too. And if you don't like Goosebumps, what the hell are you doing with your life?) If none of this stuff interests you in anyway, and your own here because it's fun to watch a train wreck of a human being crash and see inside the head of a delusional and depressed functioning adult, that's cool too. Hope you're getting you're psych research done. Just include my name in the footnotes please. I deserve some credit for being batshit insane, right? I think that's it for now. And seriously for what reason are people flagging down your works for like 😭😭?? It literally makes no sense??? Some people are so rude and mean and spiteful for no reason like. Do better or screw off unintentionally quoting Ego here I’m sorry that this happened to you, it really sucks.

Ever since break started I’ve been in a kind of limbo. It feels so surreal not having any work to do. I mean I do have basic chores to do today like the laundry and vacuuming and stuff but besides that it’s a free day. I am. Very very very. Temped to start reading the blue lock manga. I know I said I’d wait for the anime to finish but like I need something to do 😭😭. I was starting my first TR reread since the last chapter but I only got in 3 chapters before I started sobbing and I haven’t even gotten to Akkuns first death or met Mikey and Draken for the first time again yet. I’m gonna have to chunk my way through it while sobbing and taking so many breaks because I will seriously never recover from this manga. OH AND I LOVE CHIFUYUS BIRTHDAY ART. Wakui continuing to attest that yes takefuyu are still canon in the reset timeline. It’s such a relief for me because those two are my comfort duo 😭😭😭. I also want to finish Chainsaw Man soon. I stopped at around volume 9 because I’m broke and was reading it at the bookstore and all I can say is that this series is definitely getting a reread cause I love analyzing strange works and concepts. THE MAITAKE COVER ASJKGFJKHFFGGG. The way I screeched when I first saw it like. I love how you worded it, they literally look like royalty together UGH. Suffice to say that yes maitake fans has a field day with the cover of volume 31 😌😌. I cant wait for the inside cover to be revealed. My prediction/demand is that it’s gonna be then as children childhood-friends-to-lovers. But I guess we’ll see.

Anyways. How are you Belle? Doing better I hope? How’s uni? Oh and when does your winter break start? How’s life? Im so happy tumblr is being cooperative now and letting you see my tagged posts 😭😭. Tumblr decided to not let me post my rant- so here’s what I had to say

I revisited my childhood with watching DBZ... (i knew i said i would start one piece but the gym bro-ness got the better of me and i started watching it) someone please explain why does Goku's voice sound... i don't know how to describe it. i was so shocked about his voice, i was planning on watching the dub instead cause of it *crying* Honestly, Wakui did a really good job with the cover. Even when I was reading mangas online - I was so awed by the covers of the manga and when TR was on its peak here, i saw a lot of spoilers for bonten mikey. I never liked mikey... but this made me change my mind. And they (like every cover character i saw up until the Brahman arc looked like royalty. Even hanma-) I'm doing well! Contemplating to change the blog theme for some reason. It's not gonna be aiku ofc- he gets 0 screen time cause he hasn't come back from italy and i am mad at him with part 1 to ocean hues I'm on my winter break actually and omw back home. Fifa knocked the wind out of me. I feel sad cause Mbappé played really well (and he was sad too when they lost), i literally went to go keep my plate and he scored in 97 seconds of the first goal T.T . But i'm also really happy for Argentina cause its the first time in 36 years since Maradona that they have won the Wc and i cried cause they were crying on the field not to mention the fact that Messi played in their team as well - so it was bittersweet ending but also very well deserved! Vincent - the unwilling protagonist to the story. used to be a legendary hero but people don't know its him without the helmet. adoptive father to Marco. quiet and reserved.

Tony - an ex-Order knight, married to Adrianne. he joins the party along with his husband. kind of a himbo.

Adrianne - a famous duelist who quits dueling to join the party, with an aim to save Marco and dismantle the government. married to Tony. very eccentric.

Marco - The Little Prophet, granted reality-altering powers by the Cosmos. escaped the Headmaster and is now trying to find out what he wants to do with his life as well as avoiding people who want to use his powers for their own gain.

Side Charas

Jackson - hitman that's currently working for the Order. i can't actually talk too much about him since he's in d&d campaign and that would be spoilers. he's stoic and neurotic.

Jacob - driver for Chattering Inc. henchman for Chatterbox. he works with Bagboy to deliver packages. he's also a zombie, essentially. though he keeps a good attitude about it

Anne (Bagboy) - does delivery for Chattering Inc. she's the one that moves the packages around. she's trying not to get too involved with the company since she knows they get kinda shady, but hey it pays well. pretty cheerful and pleasant to be around.

Tío - its honestly kind of hard to describe his role. people just know them as a strange figure that keeps people from going too deep into the Kyorian Jungle. a mysterious, powerful user of magic.

Sammy - a proficient wizard, and Vincent's lost twin sister. she hides away in a tower and studies the imbalances of the Cosmos, hoping to find a fix to its ills. she's very smart, but a bit unhinged at times.

Chatterbox - an avatar and CEO of his own company. is as trustworthy as a used car salesman. no one knows what shady deals he's getting up to.

Amy - an avatar and keeper of a magical library, which he's bound himself to in order to keep it safe. calm and collected, if not quite lonely.

Little Knight & Big Guy - i run the ask blog with them! there IS a whole story planned i just have to get to it!

I have debated how to say this or even write it but I'm just giving in to try. Based on Max's interview and your recent anon on expectations I wanted to add my opinion no one asked for lol. But here's my thing as a long time viewer and pretty successful predictor.

I take all my clues from Oliver, he has in the past validated and acknowledged and even said he wouldn't promote if he thought it was baiting. He's very sensative to the fandom and the fact he is now leads me to believe that Buddie will be canon by the end of 5 or at least we will have a huge clue that yes its coming. Lets be real here Eddie clearly has PTSD and I don't think thats something we run over to start a relationship. But again, I think we will see it as heavily hinted if they arent already canon.

Now on to my worst case scenario. If the show really cant figure out how to write Buddie or isnt committing to it. I 100% believe that they are done with female LIs for both men. I imagine them actually being roommates for many reasons, either worried about Chris or heck saving money on rent. Have you seen LA prices. And its a cop out but I think for the remainder of the series we will have an ambiguous "platonic " family unit upgraded from S2 and S3. I get why people would be disappointed but I'm really at the point of leave women out of this and let me feel in the blanks if I have too. Give me their family time.

But again... take your clues from Oliver. He wouldn't tease if he didn't think that was the road we were headed.

Oooh, I won't lie, I was wondering whether I would get an ask about Max's interview. And yes, you're always welcome to throw your opinions at me! ;)

I have to admit I'm a bit torn. On the one hand, I do think it matters that Oli and Ryan indicated they're down with Buddie happening. And the change that Oli went through, from refusing to like Buddie stuff since it might be misleading, to liking Buddie edits and art again? It did give me hope he might know the direction these two are on and that it's the one we're all hoping for. On the other, he's also indicated recently he hasn't yet read the script for this season's finale. So... IDK. He might not know as much as we think he does. There might be something else influencing his decision to like Buddie stuff again. Maybe he just missed them, or he decided supporting the artists matters more? I really don't know. At the same time, he might also know the general direction for Buddie without knowing the specifics, like the 518 script, making my whole point moot. XD

If Buddie won't go canon, I can't see them both remaining single. Because 911 would probably want to re-affirm that they're straight by pairing them with female LI's, and also 'coz out of the main cast, they don't have that many single characters, and they can't let the only two be the single pink elephant in the room... However, they may let them be single and still more wrapped up in each other than in anyone else and raising Chris together for the show finale... But I agree with you, that if I can't have canon Buddie, I would take 'filling in the blanks.' If it helps, I think no matter what, the show will always dedicate some of its time to the Buddifer family unit. 911 has made it abundantly clear that romantic or platonic, that little family unit is precious to both the fans and the show.

As for the interview, I have to say that it doesn't scare me into "Buddie is def not going canon." At least not yet. Kristen didn't say Buddie is def not happening. She could have, but she didn't. In fact, she indicated the romantic possibility exists and nothing was ruled out. More than that, she could have implied reading Buddie as romantic is crazy, but instead she admitted it's a valid reading. Even when she claimed it's not how she wrote them, she didn't de-legitimize this option. Also, when stressing that Buddie are just good friends, she added it's where they're at right now. Which... canonically, that's accurate. Doesn't mean they always will be, and her phrasing clearly left the door open for them to be something more at some other point. Plus... these show runners said there was no need for a Buck Begins, then did one, and then said there was no need for Eddie to break down, and we know how that's going... I really am not yet panicking over this interview.

Lastly, Kristen saying she drew the guardianship bit from her mother's rl decision... except, I'm sure her mother was Very Normal about it, as in, she was probably being a responsible parent, taking possible scenarios into account, then sat her bestie down for a talk, explained that because she doesn't want her daughter to be raised by her parents she's asking her BFF to be the legal guardian and gave this woman as much time as she needed to decide on what to say. But is that what Kristen wrote for Buddie? No. Because she too knows there is nothing Very Normal about them. She wrote Eddie making the decision based on a real life-threatening event, with emotions running high, making his decision an emotional rather than a logical one, Buck saying he wished he could have died instead of Eddie (!!!) and then, THEN Eddie, in Very Not Normal fashion, makes the emotionally impactful decision to let Buck know he's been Chris' legal guardian for basically a year, not asking him about it before making the will change because they both knew Buck would not say no (and them verbally confirming this to each other). That makes it less about Eddie's reasonable decision and more about making sure that Buck was emotionally ok, as I've detailed here. But wait, that's not all! We know Eddie's parents suck and why they shouldn't raise Chris, but there's also Eddie's Tia Pepa, or his sisters... he dismisses them all, and more than that, he doesn't even bring them up as the reason he's made Buck Chris' guardian. He's not turning to his best friend 'coz his family sucks. By not going "X can't have Chris 'coz... so I need you to step in," it makes it clear Buck isn't Eddie's default. He's HIS CHOICE.

IDK, Kristen, is this really how you think things went down between your mom and her bestie when that agreement was reached? Yeah, me neither. There is Nothing Remotely Normal about this.

I'd love to see your opinion on Who Made me a Princess

As a whole?

Hm. Okay.

Before I get into the actual plot and characters I just want to say: I love that art. It's so gorgeous that even if the series was absolute garbage (which it isn't, just flawed) I'd still keep reading just for the eye candy.

I think I'm going to try a character by character format. So let's start with Athy.

Athy! Honestly, I love her. There's a trend among FLs to just be perfect and haven't flaws and never make mistakes in any scenario. Athy defies this head on. She does the wrong thing sometimes. She slips up, she gets anxious, she loses things but she's still clearly a strong main character. Spoon did a great job with that.

My main complaint though, is why the second life? All her Korean life does is make her weirdly older than her love intrests. She could have reincarnated straight from old Athy and the story would've been exactly the same. If the survival instincts from the begining were important to you than have her live that life but die as a child. Then she's not an adult in a child's body who's attracted to children. Much less uncomfortable. She can still be mature but she doesn't have to be a full grown adult.

I don't have a fully formed opinion on Claude. I'm far from being a Claude simp but I don't hate him either. It's hard to actually sympathize with him. Especially because of the amnesia arc. Watching him immediately go back to killing Athy mode was just depressing. Even with everyone around him telling him not to, his first instinct was to kill the child. Also, tbh he's not nearly as hot as fans make him out to be. I don't feel like I've seen anything as of yet to make me think "wow I was wrong about Claude! He was a good person this whole time!". Just "I guess he won't kill his daughter now".

I really don't get where all the Jennette hard comes from. It's not as if there's a rule somewhere that only one of them can be happy. She just wants to feel loved and hasn't actually done a single harmful thing to get it. When she was first introduced I thought she'd just be a stock saintess character but Jennette proved me wrong. She has flaws and wants that are prevalent in who she is as a character and what she does in the story. Also, I love her design. She's just so pretty!

I'm going to be frank with this one. I don't like Lucas. He barely does anything in the plot, he's another jerk of a male lead, and he doesn't really have any reedeming qualities. Liking Athy doesn't make him likeable. It feels like he's just there to be the angsty wizard ML and nothing more.

Ijekial's great but I wish he was more relevant to the plot. All he does is sit there so Jennette can be sad about him and there can some sort of love triangle. I'd love for him to be more proactive. He doesn't really participate in or appear in the story very much.

With that said about all the characters I'm just going to throw some last thoughts into the wind.

Jennette was the only good part of the amnesia arc besides that one Athy meeting with the nobles scene.

I hope Athy just stays single. I don't see her with either ML but I know it'll be Lucas.

Lily and Felix are the best couple in the Manwha.

I don't like that Athy comepleltly switched out the personality she had in the first few chapters.

Someone really needs to give Jennette a hug and it's going to have to be Athy.

The pacing feels really slow. Not a lot actually happens considering the length.

I want a spin-off about Diana.

Claude never actually stopped being a terrible father, he just started giving Athy presents. Felix and Lily are pretty obviously the people who raised her and Felix should've gotten that first dance.

Also, I'm reading on Bato which I think is bit behind so no spoilers please!

Chain of Iron:Death theory

As the awaited release date for Chain of Iron approaches and the fandom decends into pure madness, I want to put in my last two cents of overthinking before I stop having coherent thoughts

So we all know this is a second book, and second books bring the absolute pain in the shadowhunter chronicles. There is likely going to be a death from the mains considering the theme of this book, and I am here to throw my theory and reasons as to who I think it might be. Im here to sadly theorize about why I think Christopher Lightwood might not make it past the last hours

1. Tatianas revenge

Right now, Tatiana wants revenge after all our main families: the carstairs, herondales, fairchilds and both branches of the lightwoods. For the lightwood-collins theres barbaras death. For the herondales her daughter has been manipulating their son for over 6 years. Theres a theory that the fairy poison Mathew bought that caused Charlottes misscarriage could be traced back to her. And there are other theories that Elias dissaperance between chog and choi could have something to do with Belial. As of right now the only family who is yet to recieve any permanent damage or tragedy are the lightwood-herondales. Which is really ironic considering its the only family that has two bloodlines Tatiana wants to harm. Not only that, but theyre also the children of who Tatiana blames directly for her fathers death, Gabriel. It seems fishy to me there hasn't been any permanent damage in their family, and I dont think that is gonna last for long

2. The family tree

The family tree states that Grace Cartwright (Aka Grace Blackthorn) marries Christopher Lightwood and theyre the ones who continue the line that leads to Alec and Isabelle. Now Cassandra has said varius times the family tree can be misleading, and I am a firm believer this is one of the misleading ends. Why this lie was created, I'm not sure, but lets analize some things. As of right now there are 5 lightwood children. At least 3 of them can pass down the lightwood name. Of those three, if we take into account that Thomas may not have kids due to being gay, that still leaves two branches of lightwood kids that may continue on. As of present time we only have word of one line, Alec and Isabelles. And Robert isnt said to have any cousins, theres no mention in the future of another lightwood line. So the idea that both Alexander and Christopher have kids is pretty unbelivable considering theres only one lightwood line in the future. Unless Alexander goes on to have only girls and Christopher has only one boy, it seems more likely the family tree is wrong. Isabelle and Alec are confirmed as of the bane chronicles to be decendants of Gabriel lightwood (Isabelle makes a reference to looking up her great great grandfather Gabriel Lightwood and telling magnus he was hot in the last story of the book)

So its already confirmed they're a) the last decendants of the lightwood line and b) that line stems from Gabriel. If we based ourselves solely on the family tree and Christopher being the one carrying the line, that would have been believable enough not to raise any red flags. Christopher IS the son of Grabriel Lightwood, able bodied and seems to have a general attraction to women (I mean, we all know hes aro/ace but lets stick with canon). There isnt anything pointing to him not being able to marry and have kids. Where the red flags raise for me is with Alexander

Alexander wasnt in the original plans for the family tree, he was added when Cassie started writting the last hours. If you take into account his role in chog, there really was no reason to add Alexander Lightwood. He doesnt seem to do anything, hes a 3 year old kid, you can very well delete him from the narrative and nothing would change. So why did Cassandra add him?? Why did she decide to make Cecily and Gabriel have another kid ?

To me, it seems a lot like the baby carstairs situation . The family tree says Alastair carries the carstairs line, Alastair is a gay man so he cant have biological kids, theres another unplaned baby to carry the line. It seems to me Christopher carrying the lightwood line is a lie, and Alexanders role is to carry it in his place. I even found a little info from an ask wayy before chain of gold came out where it said Alexander had green eyes, but in the book she changed it to blue eyes. The exact same shade the modern day lightwoods seem to have. A trait hes more likely to pass down than his lavender eyed brother who supposedly "marries" grey eyed grace

3. Character Arc

Characters in literature need goals, things to work for or work towards through the story in order for them to develop. We call those things character arcs, and it seems we have all ignored how christophers may have indirectly ended. If you read his short story, or just overall analize his character, his main goal is simple. He wants to create something that will help the nephlim through science. His personal character arc is that he wants to prove himself and his skill to the clave using his passion to be a hero.

An arc that could have been expanded all through the series, and ended with him using his skills in the end to defeat belial in some way, proving his passions worth. Through the story we could have had a glimpse at his struggles, how he was put down, the failed attempts, fustrations etc. This all could have rounded christopher as a character, and brought more satisfaction to the end goal of his arc which is proving the value of his science. But instead, his arc in book seemingly already ended? Because he did it, he figured out a way to combine science with his duty and saved the entire enclave from the demon poison. He is now acclaimed a hero for his skills. All the other characters have things to finish going into chain of iron, Christopher doesnt. Why would she end an arc that could have taken through the entire series in just one book? Christopher is the only secondary character with a defined personality and a lack of arc to look foward too in following books. This could all point that his arc was rushed because it was being cut short

4. Lightwood blood

There has been a lot of theories going around about Thomas being the one who gets killed in this book, which is resonable considering the unerving amount of forehsadowing we've had to him getting himself caught up in something. But I raise you this, why would CC be giving us so much assurance that Thomas was going to get hurt if she was going to kill him? Not only would she be reaveling one of her most devastating murders, she would basically be spoiling a very big part of her own book. Thomas death would affect everyone, if she WERE to kill him she wouldnt be indulging us in our Thomas death theory as much as she has. Itd be too expectable, I actually believe that by giving us all the info she has she has more or less confirmed he wont die.

I believe this is all a decoy. Shes giving us foreshadowing towards something bad happening to Thomas, to cover up the very big reality shes planning to kill someone else. Theres a very big chance that for the resurection, theyre gonna need Jesses families blood. Same way Malcom needed blackthorn blood to raise Annabel. As of rightnow there arent any blackthorns (by blood) left alive, the only blood relatives Jesse still had are the lightwoods. So we already know Thomas gets captured by the murderer (referenece to the art), but it is most likely he gets rescued. People speculate he most likely got captured for the resurection Tatianas trying to do, because of his lightwood blood. But if Thomas escapes, Tatiana still needs her families blood. And I'd like to point out this is also where the fact she hasnt taken permanent revenge on the lightwood-herondales would come in. Theres a good chance that if the murders are releated to her, and she cant have Thomas, she wont stop at just Thomas.

5. Story relevance

In all sense of story, Christopher is the perfect candidate to kill. As hard as that is to say: he's a secondary character, who has a well defined personality, loved enough by the fans that there would certainly be a shock factor following his death, important enough to the story that there would be a big impact to the narrative, and interwined enough with the main characters to cause emotional distress in the story. His arc is indirectly done, this author has a history of killing lightwoods, there isnt much to discourage the possibility he might be killed besides the faulty family tree. And as I said, that tree has been stated multiple times to be misleading

The truth is, I hate this theory as much as everyone, Im genuinly hoping chain of iron proves me wrong. But there are 5 deaths comming, and not all of them can be side characters. Cordelia Lucie and James all have main character protection. I already explained why Thomas dying is unlikely. Anna, Ariadne and Alastair have gay protection (and I think some asks about Alastair dying were pretty much answered with a discreet no)

Top 5 Underrated Characters

Zoophobia has a lot of characters, doesn't it? Because of that, it's easy for a few to slip between the cracks. Either that, or the only way they get popularity is by Vivz going "hey, they might end up in a relationship with a popular character *wink wink, nudge nudge *" (looking at you Elijah ) I say we discuss 5 of them today.

For this list, I'm looking at characters that personally surprise me as to how few people show interest in them. I'm not just talking about fan art. I rarely see them discussed or anything. However, if a character hasn't gotten a lot of attention from Vivz, then to me it makes sense why no one talks about them, so you won't see anybody like. ...I dunno, Penelope. Anybody here know Penelope? How about Koko, or Calvin? No? Didn't think so.

I'm going to break habit and announce my 2 dishonorables together since I put them on here for the same reason.

DM 1 and 2: Camilla and Elijah

Ok, so it's not so much I feel as though they have no fans, I feel as though they have fans.....that don't actually give a shit about the characters themselves and like them for reasons not relating to their personalities or anything.

Starting with Eli, let's be honest here guys, how many people actually gave a shit about him before we got the implication that he could potentially be Damian's boyfriend? I mean, once in a blue moon, I'll see someone who says they like his character traits or his design, but that doesn't happen very often. Hell, this happened even back when Eli was green and was called Eiglet. Nobody cared about this character that much. We just got the idea that he could end up with Dame, and then the fandom started to take an interest. I find that incredibly disappointing.

With Camilla, I think we can all agree on one thing. Camilla is hot. I see a lot of people going crazy over her design, and the fact that she's a stripper. Sad part is, there's a lot more to Camilla, and Vivz has done several pieces of artwork depicting this side of her, and yet everyone just goes crazy over tits. Again, it's disappointing.

5. Justina

Ok, so this bitch didn't appear in the comic. Well, she did at one point. Zoophobia originally had this prologue where we meet Justina. However, Vivz deleted this prologue so we can assume that prologue is retconned. You can still probably find re blogs of it somewhere. Still, it makes sense why not a lot of people would know about her, thus why she's at the bottom of the list. However, she still showed up at one point, and fuck it, I see plenty of shit for Mirage who hasn't appeared yet. Also, this is my list.

Justina is interesting to me. She has apparently been exiled in Hell and is forced to watch over dreams, a job she finds tedious. She's also the embodiment of Pride, and mistreats her daughter, Ink. Ok, so reread the second sentence. She got exiled. ...in Hell. A place where there's a bunch of crazies and crime, and that's super loose on rules. This bitch somehow got exiled. Also, the sins run over entire sections of Hell. Justina was a politically powerful figure. So what crime could she have possibly committed to get exiled? Why no one talks about this is surprising to me. Like, can we get some headcannons at least? The other reason I like her, and I know this is petty, but she hates being colourful. Am I the only one who finds the concept of a Vivziepop character despising how colourful they are kind of unintentionally funny? Yes? Ok then.....

4. Kaycee

Kaycee's lack of popularity or recognition also came as a surprise. She's basically this story's version of the Cheshire cat. She's the puppet master pulling the strings of characters, kick starting the story. And yet she's neither an evil nor good character. She's morally grey, seemingly seeing the whole story as entertainment for herself. She also seems to be somewhat omnipresent, hiding in plain sight, watching shit go down. The first chapter gave her plenty of panels to shine in, and I'm not sure about the rest of you, but her scenes seemed pretty effective. So why did the fandom collectively forget that this character existed? With a character like Kaycee, you would've thought that the fandom would be abuzz with speculation and theories. Not to mention her connection with Cameron. What does Kaycee see in her? What's her end game? Does she want something, or is all of Safe Haven Kaycee's personal doll house? Come on fandom, what's the hold up?

3. Narissa

Ok, ok, odd choice, I know, and that's partially why she's so low. So why do I think she needs more attention? Because she's high key a major contender for the most badass mom of the comic award. First off, she's the queen of Hell, despite being a mortal and not a demon. She has Lucifer, FUCKING LUCIFER, wrapped around her finger so tight that Vivz has described them as the most lovey dovey couple in the series. On concept alone, I'm already intrigued. And in the comic? Everybody, I want you to look at the panels she appears in, and just notice the body language, posture, facial expression. It could be just me, but Narissa seems to scream "get on your knees before the queen bitch". Also, notice how when Lucifer is full out raging and is about to stab a bitch, while everyone else is fucking terrified, Narissa's just puts her hand up like "Shattup bitch, I'm taking over." Finally, I find her reaction to Damian's actions interesting. I theorized in the past that she may be alright with Dame going to Safe Haven since she kind of gets it, since she experienced something similar in her life, except instead of Earth, she wanted to litteraly go to hell. I think it would actually be really interesting if there were some sort of parallel between Dame and his mum, and that being the reason she lets him do his thing. I see a lot of people give attention to Lucifer and especially Dame, but Narissa is almost always left out. I dunno about you guys, but I vote that we need more Narissa love.

In Tentadora's case, I think people tend not entirely get Tenta's character. A lot of people criticize Tenta for not being a good parental figure for Damian despite being so doting to him. And I'm about to blow some people's minds here, but Tenta being a bad parent?

Yeah, Tenta is actually a really shitty parent, and this is actually intentional. While she does care for Dame, she spoils him rotten and she's even surprisingly neglectful. She just lets Dame hang on Earth where she knows he'll be in danger. Oh but it's alright. He's happy. That's all that matters right? Even when searching for him, she doesn't take it seriously and would rather goof off than make sure he's ok. This is much more evident in a comic you can find on Vivz's art portfolio. It's done in a way that mimics the Invader Zim art style and stars Dame and Tenta. I'll probably reblog it later, but in the comic, Dame is (as confirmed by Vivz in the description ) not entirely mentally healthy. The kid is litteraly under the impression his dolls are talking to him. And Tenta's reaction? She just tells him he's too old to play with dolls.

I feel that Tenta gets a little too much criticism. Yeah, I agree with the design thing, but a lot of criticism I see towards her personality is criticism I have trouble buying. The whole thing with people asking why she's such a shitty parent is one thing, but there's also the accusation that she not only looks like Jessica Rabbit, she acts like and has the same role as her, when really she doesn't. Look, I don't deny the similarities. But Tenta isn't a clone. She's clearly inspired by and shares traits with Jessica, but she's hardly a carbon copy. Personality wise at least. She's silly, not ashamed of being sexy or inconvenienced by it, and she's far less mature. Can we just. ...I dunno, give the pink robot a break?

1. Zechariah

Ok, so hear me out. I know I put him on my worst character list. However, remember how I restricted that list to just characters that appeared in the comic? If it weren't for that restriction, Zech wouldn't have made the list. The main problem I had was his stupid decisions. That's it. Also, this character has appeared in 3 out of the five chapters we got. He has a lot of panels to show up in. However, despite this, nobody pays this guy any attention. Except, oddly enough, the NSFW part of the zp community...... Yeah, I don't know either. Still, you rarely see this guy get spoken about or fan works made for him, while characters like Tom who show up once get more attention than he does. I think that this list has shown me how confusing the zp community can be.
