1/4 oh my god thank you so much for the detailed answer and i 100% agree. "sanemi internalizes his sadness and is outwardly aggressive, while giyuu internalizes his aggression and is outwardly depressed" so true!!!! i think this is maybe only tangentially related to what you were getting at but i was thinking about the interpretation of giyuu as a soft baby in the context of his backstory/relationship with sabito. i feel like what's so interesting about giyuu as a character is how utterly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No problem anon!! I really liked writing out that response, introspection on characters is so much fun omg and Giyuu is one of my all time favorite characters! Also sorry because this rant is all over the place I’m writing it just after I woke up lol
In response to Giyuu’s real personality, I’d say a lot of the things we see are… not him unfortunately. What we do know about Giyuu is that he’s strikingly different than he was as a kid.
Anyway, I think that the only glimpses of the real Giyuu that we get before his talk with Tanjiro are very subtle ones that only present themselves in tough situations. I think Giyuu sparing Tanjiro and Nezuko was really him, and I think him staking his life on them was also him. But I think the harsh words and seemingly emotionless exterior he wore throughout it are all things he’s developed since the events of his trauma.
In the end of the series, I think Giyuu has become a version of both the person he used to be and the person he became. It seems like Giyuu is still quiet , and he’s a victim of a senseless war so he’ll never really be the same, but he takes the steps to engage with his family more (Tanjiro, Nezuko, Urokodaki) and build real relationships (Sanemi and the Uzui family) and overall be happier. I think that’s a reflection of the life he deserved, with the influence of the time he spent lost and wandering, which turned him out to be the best version of himself.
I do think that Giyuu only spared Nezuko because of his own trauma involving his sister, honestly. I wrote a post about this (significantly shorter) but I think that Giyuu saw his sister in Tanjiro, someone who was desperate to save their younger sibling no matter what became of them, and I think that the part of Giyuu that remembered the devastation of losing Tsutako wouldn’t let him kill Nezuko after she proved herself to be harmless to Tanjiro. I genuinely think that was Giyuu projecting himself into these children and knowing that if he can safely stop them from being forcefully separated, then he’ll do it because nobody deserves to go through what he did.
Last part! Okay so, with Giyuu being babied in his and Sabito’s relationship, I think it’s another case of the fans latching onto one piece of his personality and not acknowledging why he was like that and how he grew out of it. Because Giyuu, as a child, was definitely latching onto Sabito like a crutch, he’s the only person he has around his age and they’re very close friends. But, we end up learning that that was also the wrong response to his trauma, because Sabito lectures him on his self deprecation and that he needs to be better for the sake of his sister and himself, that he needs to do better for himself! Giyuu being clingy and anxious and self deprecating is always wrong and something he needs to work on! So yes, he does act this way when he was younger, but this is a explicit flaw of his that he gets called out on very early in life so I think any Sabito lives aus that still make Giyuu out to be this way are missing the point of that scene and their relationship entirely.
Also, random note here, I actually do think it’s in character for Sabito to befriend someone who’s just kind of sweet and kind without much aggression lol. Like he’s takes on Tanjiro even though Tanjiro is like the nicest dude in the whole world and didn’t really see any of his aggressive moments ever (which are all caused by someone else, Tanjiro never picks a fight he just finishes them). And he’s obviously somewhat close with Makomo to be working with her on Tanjiro’s training, and she’s also never mean or angry, so I’d say Sabito is like the sunshine protector and everyone else is the sunshine akdjskdjskdk
Anyway sorry for the rant again! It’s so uncoordinated, but like I said I just woke up and started writing this, so forgive me 😅 I really do love writing these tho I swear I could go on about any character for hours, so thanks for asking!

Who's your favorite character in Demon Slayer?
If I had to pick one? Probably Tanjirou. And here are a few reasons I like him as both a character and a protagonist.
First is his kindness. I know it's a thing to have the protagonist in shounen anime be a "Nice Guy", but Tanjirou has a kindness that so rarely wavers. I think there are three demons in the whole series he shows no kindness to in their final moments after he decapitated/killed them? And they fully deserved his rage. I like Tanjirou's kindness because it sticks until he is pushed to his complete limit. He is kind, but not to the point of not killing his opponents because it would make him no better than them. He's kind, not naive. Thank you, Gotouge, for letting our boy do his job!
Second, his devotion to his friends and family. I know the fanfics portray him as a good boy who would never hurt anyone, and that's mostly right. But he's also fully willing to commit felonies to protect those he cares about. First thing this boy does when Giyuu stabs Nezuko is TRY TO PUT AN AXE IN THE MAN'S SKULL! Hurt his family, he will go feral and most likely attempt a felony. The epitome of "Do no harm, but take no s***."
His skull of steel is funny to me. A play on how thick-headed many anime protagonists can be, but now it's in both a literal and metaphorical sense, and I love it.
He's not OP immediately. Hell, I would say he never really becomes OP(as a human, at least). Yes, he knows a lot of skills and techniques, but he needed to learn and perfect them. He didn't just know them off the bat. He had to train to use his Sun Breathing without collapsing from the strain it put on him. He almost suffocated himself trying to fold Daki like a lawn chair, and would have if Hanako's ghost hadn't shown up to remind him his lungs are a vital organ! He gets injured and has to rest to recover from them. Pretty sure he only lasted so long in the final fight by power of rage and adrenaline as well as having back-up in the form of his friends and the Hashira! I love that! You see some shounen protagonists get instantly perfect at a skill they learned about an hour ago and/or get injured without consequences(even when consequences are established! You know what I'm talking about!), and I honestly prefer they struggle to learn it at least a little. It humanizes them, which is especially important when the protagonist IS a human. We have limits, and it's dangerous to exceed them.
He doesn't carry all the fights. He may have a laundry list of injuries, but a bad back ain't one of them! He either has Nezuko(+maybe a few others, like Yushiro and Tamayo, or Zenitsu and Inosuke) to back him up, or he is helping a higher rank Slayer and is, himself, the backup. He isn't more powerful than the Hashira until he trains and masters Sun Breathing in the Sunrise Countdown Arc. Then I would say he's close to Hashira level. Even then, he still needs help. His power level makes sense for his background and rank, and I am thankful for that! It doesn't make sense that a kid who's spent his entire life making and selling charcoal, who had never had a background of violence, would be instantly perfect at it! He trained for two years, and even then still had techniques to learn!
His motivation is selfless. He doesn't want to be the best Demon Slayer, he would much rather be at home making and selling charcoal with his family. He would rather Kibutsuji have never attacked his family, that his mother and siblings had been spared. But he does still choose to go out there. He still chooses to pick up a sword and learn to kill, and it's for his little sister. He does all he does for her sake. To protect her, and eventually cure her. He was probably so happy when the fighting was over and Nezuko was human again because it meant they could go home and live their lives as they wanted to. (Fun fact, this is actually one of the first things my friend who recommended Demon Slayer to me told me about the series, and it was what drew me in!)
All in all, I just like Tanjirou. He's a refreshing protagonist in a pretty well-written series. Yes, Demon Slayer has its flaws, but I still consider it my favourite anime(of the 3 I have watched more than one episode of, but I digress). I know some people don't like him for various reasons, but these are my reasons why I DO like him. Inosuke and Zenitsu picked a good friend, Kie and Tanjurou raised their son right, Nezuko has an amazing big brother, Kanao picked a good man to marry, and I just love Demon Slayer. It is the first anime I have seen where I have repeatedly watched it(I've seen the first season 5 times now, waiting for season 2 to be released to Netflix). I can't wait to see it all get animated!! I'm serious, the mass freak out I'm gonna experience for the Infinity Fortress and Sunrise Countdown Arcs is gonna be through the roof! I've seen bits and pieces from the manga, and it looks like it's gonna be great!

Okay listen listen, "you hate sanemi but love kaigaku and make him have essentially the same dynamic to him and zenitsu that sanemi and genya have in canon" listen with sanemi it's just canon what he did and yes it would be canon for kaigaku but since we don't get much of him we don't see how bad he could get
I don't like sanemi cuz of his treatment of Genya, honestly idgaf abt him stabbing nezuko sorry 😭. But his whole shit was so unnecessary and I'm probably really passionate abt this cuz I can see me and my sister in them (don't wanna get into it here cuz venting when you're talking abt why you like kaigaku more than sanemi is kinda silly)
But he could've done literally anything else than berate and belittle Genya and I get that sanemi is in his early twenties but it's honestly so annoying seeing how idk how to explain it, lack of consequences??? I guess??? Genya deserved a good brother throughout his life not just when he was about to die
But why am I so hard on sanemi and not kaigaku? Cuz I'm fucking delusional 😭😭 but yea it's really funny cuz I like making kaigakus dynamic with zenitsu "psuedo brother figure treating psuedo younger brother figure as shit cuz he doesn't know how to deal with his gay feelings cue some noncon and abuse" but I'm pretty sure the reason for my distaste for sanemi is just like it's canon how shitty of a brother he was and really all that shit he did was so so so unnecessary (zenitsu 🤝 Genya 🤝 me having a shitty older sibling that we think hates/hated us)
"so why do you like kaigaku???" I DONT FUCKING KNOW MAYBE JUST MAYBE I THINK IT'D BE REALLY COOL IF ZENITSU GOT HIS ASS ABSOLUTELY WRECKED BY HIM PHYSICALLY EMOTIONALLY AND SEXUALLY???? IDK JUST A THOUGHT NOT LIKE THAT WASNT THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS POST LMAO

[ID: A tier list for Demon Slayer Characters. The tiers from top to bottom are “logo,” “basically perfect,” “kinda liked you”, “neutral,” “could do a lot better,” and “what did gotouge do to you?” End ID.]
Ranked based how I felt about their characterization in canon, and how it was executed
this goes with this tier list
The “basically perfect” tier means both the characterization and the execution of the concepts/themes associated with the character were done expertly and in a personally satisfactory way. There may be some things I could complain about, but it is very nitpicky (like the Mother Spider Demon having a weirdly exposed design). Also Murata is great.
The “kinda liked you” tier is for characters where I felt their characterizations served the narrative in a functional way, but it was a tad rushed, a little weirdly executed, or a bit underdeveloped. For the Daughter Spider Demon, she’s a special case where her anime counterpart got more screentime and I liked the additions to her backstory, which pushed her from “neutral” to “kinda liked you”.
The “neutral” tier is for characters I didn’t particularly care about. Like, they may be important to other characters, but that’s pretty much all they got going for them. Most background characters are here. Muichirou is in this tier because while their story is alright, the way it was included in the story (shittily) kinda makes me upset, but it’s not completely abhorrent. For Kyojuro, I just didn’t like the whole message he was sending in general, it’s very personal.
(Honestly if I were to redo this, I’d knock Muichirou and Kyojuro down to the “could do a LOT better” tier.)
The “could do a LOT better” tier is for characters where I get actively annoyed thinking about how they were handled. Honestly, this tier and the last one could be the same, but I separated them based on how much work I personally had to do to improve them in the Rewrite. For this one, they have the pieces, an interesting backstory, maybe an interesting conclusion to their arc, but its rushed or poorly done or went in a direction that muddled any themes in this story (this point is mostly relevant to Tanjirou). Uzui is also here because while his arc is nice, Gotouge kept adding weird problematic shit to his character for literally no reason other than comedic relief which wasn’t even funny (He, Obanai, and Zenitsu deserve reparations for this).
The “what did gotouge do to you?” tier is for characters that I literally could not stand in terms of characterizations, and in the case for my Rewrite, had to COMPLETELY rework in order to have something that didn’t piss me off (I’m looking at you, Muzan, Kagaya, and Nezuko).

Haha, yeah Ace would absolutely do that!
I prefer a demon slayer Yuu though simply because of the angst potential. Since being a demon slayer is really dangerous, the prefect would obviously have a shit ton of scars so imagine how everyone would react to seeing them? Like in the event that the prefect is supposed to become the next pillar of a breathing technique, they’d have to be super skilled and have to fight a ton of powerful demons to reach that point so that just makes the amount of scars they have even higher!
Also during an overblot, maybe they get severely injured due to the debris flying everywhere but instead of being phased, they’re like; Tis but a scratch! But everyone else is like; No it’s not!
And the dorm heads after overblotting! Like if the prefect gets badly injured every time it happens which leaves a scar and they’re already aware of the other scars, they’d feel really bad for hurting the prefect, because they’ve already been through so much they deserve a peaceful life! Being at NRC, for the most part, has clearly given them the chance to truly act their age where they can also receive the help they need to work through their trauma and then because of the overblot, things are taking a few steps back again! Of course the prefect is like; “It’s fine, I’ve faced worse!” But that honestly just makes all of them feel worse because damn.
Knowing all this, I bet Crowley and everyone else would be reluctant to send the prefect back to their world cause they don’t want to see their friend suffer more pain.
Everyone is frankly quite horrified at the amount of scars they have on their body and how some of them are near parts of their body that could very well be fatal
They are 16! They should be going out pulling pranks and getting on the teachers’ nerves or being a good student preparing for their future not fighting in battles that could very well kill them
Crowley confiscated their sword because it’s dangerous to have in school but luckily they didn’t get through all those battles and be able to be a candidate to become a pillar only relying on their sword, they can make do with what they get
Despite Deuce’s horror at MC’s situation he’s also pretty curious on just what pillars are and about the demon slayer corps in general though of course he always goes about the topic gently despite the fact it really doesn’t MC that uncomfortable (he wants them to focus on having fun! Not fighting with their life on the line)
Ace takes it upon himself to make sure you have loads of fun in NRC and his shenanigans with MC are actually given some slack when MC is shown to be genuinely enjoying themselves (though he still gets punished, boi you thought)
Jack wants to protect them but also respects their strength so becomes more of MC’s self preservation because they don’t need to run into battle! There are magic wielded though MC can’t really be stopped when the situation escalates
Riddle would feel terrible if he scarred or injured you in any way (which considering he fought with rose bushes, I BET HAPPENED) and want to make it up to MC but MC is just dismissive of it insisting it’s okay when it’s not. (He gets Trey to teach him how to make tarts properly and gifts them to MC who accepts it cause free food!)
Leona on the outside is dismissive of the whole thing cause big whoop the kid has scars, not his problem. Inside however he does feel a little bad though considering the nature of his power they likely didn’t get too injured especially since when faced with demon blood arts that can send you flying without you even seeing (Reference: Yahaba’s demon blood art. The partner of the Temari demon), Leona’s muscles really doesn’t intimidate them
Azul feels pretty shitty about trying to take away their home after learning that they were okay with it for the most part because they didn’t really need sleep much anyway (seriously when do demon slayers sleep, they train in the day and fight demons to sunset the next day, if you think you can stay up all night become a demon slayer, they are on another level) but ultimately settles for treating them to a free treat in the Mostro Lounge and is off. He doesn’t like getting personally involved
Jamil was worried about his plans in all honesty with the fact that MC could see through him and is surprised when they approach him post overblot like he didn’t deceive them and send them flying with Grim. When MC explains he doesn’t need to feel alone, he just feels bad and mends their Haori as an apology (since he saw Riddle and Azul already apologize with food)
Vil didn’t insist on MC working with them since they had recovering wounds and scars that could possibly be aggravated by his strict training but they laugh off the idea his training is strict cause compared to demon slaying training it’s a breeze. When he accidentally injures them in his overblot (since he you know, DESTROYED THE STADIUM) as an apology he does something gets a gift personalized to something MC would actually like (since he luckily has Rook to find out what MC likes) and gets them some potions to speed up their recovery
The students would openly protest if MC was going to be sent home. They shouldn’t have to go back to such a bleak world where death is staring them at the face! They can just stay here and be a teenager!
MC however would insist on coming home because they still have precious loved ones at their home world who they wish to protect and they can’t just live a normal life here while their comrades are likely off fighting demons and possibly even the upper moons and Muzan Kibutsuji something that the students would reluctantly have to accept.
Okay so I know you prefer demon slayer! MC but Demon! MC has plenty angst potential too! I mean with some exceptions, most demons didn’t exactly want to become one because the life of a demon is not an easy one
They would be close to Malleus as a demon since they can only come out when it’s night and Malleus and his centuries of wisdom could be an interesting conversation buddy to the immortal (from everything but the sun and wisteria) demon.
Demon! MC would be way more nonchalant about taking hits than a demon slayer! MC because hey! Their arm might’ve been blown off but it’s already regenerating and since none of the guys have sun powers or Nichirin blades, they can only be killed by being pushed into the sunlight (which no one is possibly an asshole enough to do when they saw what happened to them after Crowley dragged them off to get some sunlight cause “it’s good for them”).
Demons feel the pain of their injuries (ex: Nezuko wincing when her leg was blown off by the Temari demon and the Temari demon’s death) so them using themselves as a meat shield while practical makes the NRC students feel awful when they recall them remarking on cutting themselves the other day or some other passing comment of pain cause they can feel it but take every hit.
The Pomefiore students and Crewel night even volunteer to work on a potion that could get them some form of sun resistance after a near miss after an overblot attack where the sun got exposed to them and if it wasn’t for Adeuce tackling them and hiding them under their bodies they surely would’ve been nothing but ash but MC just laughs bitterly at the idea of sun resistance as it’s after all what “that man” desires most
With demon! Mc being sent home, demon! Mc might actually accept staying in Twisted Wonderland unless they’re someone like Tamayo who’s actively making something to work against Muzan though if they’re just a demon with humanity still in them trying to survive I imagine they would actually like to stay which would make a happy ending but still full of angst potential

Dating HC's for Tanjirou, Inosuke, and Zenitsu
Tanjirou Kamado:
Tumblr media
-First off! You’re dating an absolute pure boy! He legit has no bad or tainted intentions. He just wants to make you happy and hold you close... He lost too much to take anything for granted and wants to hold you close. Not to be lewd or anything, but he dreams of cuddling with you next to a fireplace.
-He really is a caring lover. He always puts your needs before him. You’re hungry? Please, take his food! He’s already full! Cold? You can take his haori. He’ll be okay! You’ve been really, really wanting this certain item for a while? He can work a little harder to buy it for you!
-But truth is, he’s scared he’s gonna lose you. He tries to keep you happy, so you won’t because you keep him happy just by being with him. Whenever he’s with you, he feels relaxed. He just wants to crawl up next to you and lay his head down in your lap. Please play with his hair? Stroke his head? If you even gently trace his scar or give it light kisses he’ll blush so hard.
-Favorite thing to do is cuddle! Cuddling when you sleep! He feels so at home when he wraps around you...It makes him secure and easier to sleep.
-You’re most likely his first s/o. He has had crushes before but too busy to ever pursue them. He is a little unsure in his actions on what to do. He just wants to make you feel loved, that’s what he knows for sure. That means you’re also his first kiss! It was probably after a dangerous mission and when he saw you again, he realized how scared he is to never see you again. He gently grabbed the sides of your face to gaze at you before you closed the distance and sweetly kissed him. It was a little awkward trying to figure it out, but it was so gentle and genuine you teared up.
-He wants you to be his first and last. He already imagines a peaceful life with you with you.
-If you’re a demon slayer, he wants to go on missions with you, but he understands if he can’t. He just gets so worried even though he knows you can handle yourself! Expect a hug when you get back from one!
-He also trusts you 100% therefore he does not get jealous. He knows you won’t cheat on him. However, if someone is flirting with you and you are uncomfortable and they won’t stop, he will step in.
-You have to have a good relationship with Nezuko. He saw you teaching her how to make a flower crown and could of swore he died right at that moment of pure joy. Another time Nezuko fell asleep on your lap and you fell asleep leaning against the wall and Tanjiro’s heart just went <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
-He will be your emotional pillar and hold you whenever you get sad. Whether you just need to have a shoulder to cry on or advice, he’s got you covered.
-Please return his actions. He deserves it. Baby has been through so much he really needs some love and someone to fall against. Polish or sharpen his sword, write him a few encouraging notes, or even buy matching necklaces! He won’t take it off and keep it hidden under his collar to make sure it doesn’t get damaged. Whenever he’ll being feeling down, he’ll look at the necklace and be reminded by you. Same goes if he’s fighting a really powerful demon. It’ll give him a much needed moral boost.
Inosuke Hashibira:
Tumblr media
-Pretty feral boy legit is clueless. He is so confused with everything, but he knows that whenever he’s near you, his face heats up and his chest feels weird and tingly. It’s like you’re doing some weird mind trick on him, like you’re baiting him into a challenge! But, whenever he tries to yell out to tell you to fight him, it turns into a weird pig-like squeal and his words die out. It’s kinda funny and makes you giggle because he gets into a fighting stance then just falters out and squeals. It took a while before you two could get together because of misunderstandings and Inosuke being confused of “love”.
-Inosuke does love you he just has his way to show it. Instead of challenging you every few minutes, he protects you. If you’re not a demon slayer, he always tries to go check up on you and has you in the back of the head. He may even give you some lessons for self defense. However, if you are a demon slayer, he does like to go on missions with you and keep an eye on you. Whenever he sees you fight fiercely in battle he just gets so proud and inside he’s all like “Yeah, that’s my s/o!!!”
-He also loves holding you for some reason. I don’t know why, but I feel like he would just love to carry you? He’ll hold you bridal style or sling you over his shoulder. This also means he’ll do that in front of others, so he just doesn’t care about PDA. He justifies it by “But they’re mine?? The others should know we’re together?? What’s so embarrassing about that???”
-He also gets jealous probably because of the whole “raised around wild animals”. He will glare and challenge Zenitsu if he asks you to marry him....Let’s just say Zenitsu learned his lesson about asking you that.
-If you sleep with him he will wrap you up in his limbs and not let you leave unfil he wakes up. You’ll have to pry him off. He may not the be softest to sleep against but he is warm, so you don’t have to worry about being cold during winter. He’s also the big spoon no matter what.
-He’ll never mention it but Inosuke will be happy if you teach him to read and write. He’s embarrassed by the fact he can’t.
-If you can cook and he make him food he will be beyond happy!! Or giving him praise!! He loves it and c r a v e s it. He doesn’t hear it very often.
-Make sure he takes care of himself. Simply like brushing his hair or making him take baths. He really prefers it if you take a bath with him, so you can reach his back. He doesn’t care if you’re naked just please get that one spot hE CAN’T SCRUB. Over a while, bathing together just becomes the norm for you two.
-As previously mentioned, he doesn’t handle well with emotions. He will let you cry into his shoulder and if the reason you’re crying is because of someone insulting you, he will go try to tear their ass up. He’s not the great with words, but he’ll take you out into the woods to release your frustration on trees or maybe even some demons.
-He kisses are rougher because he will smoosh his face onto yours and your teeth may clink, but his kisses make you feel so safe and warm. He’ll even press the snout of his mask onto your lips when he has it on.
Zenitsu Agatsuma:
Tumblr media
-OKAY SO WE KNOW HE ASKS LEGIT ANYONE TO MARRY HIM BUT WHEN HE GETS WITH YOU THAT SHIT COMES TO A STOP.
-He is honestly so shocked you returned his feelings? He never would imagine you actually would. He honestly could look at you smiling at him and he would tear up slightly because you actually love him? You’re smiling because of him??
-He wants to be attached to you every second, but he stops himself because he’s afraid he’ll scare you off? Tell him you don’t mind and although he will be with you constantly, his face will be so blushy and blissful and that makes it worth it.
-He loves PDA and loves to give you hugs and quick kisses. Those kisses become an routine. Kiss in the morning, in the afternoon, before he goes off to a mission, before bedtime, he just loves them! He will get whiny if you don’t. He needs them like he needs air.
-His kisses are so gentle and sweet! He kisses are as soft as if he’s kissing a doll. His kisses are always filled with love. He’s a hopeless romantic okay.
-He just wants to have one night with no demons bothering you and look at the stars. He’ll point out what he sees and may even sneak in an “Those stars look like us kissing! The stars say we should kiss. Let’s kiss now!...Please?”
-Maybe he has a journal that depicts you and him getting married but shush. He may even slip out a few times by referring you to others as “My wife/husband”. He had to stop himself from getting promise rings a week after dating but he will after some months. If he sees you wearing your promise ring, he will be so happy!
-He does get insecure and unsure of himself especially after missions when he thinks his teammates outshone him. He will get teary eyed and fall into your arms. Kiss his head and list all the things that make him special and amazing. Sometimes just listen to him talk about it. Don’t worry, he’ll return the favors if you ever feel down too.
-He is the little spoon most the time because he loves affection, but some nights he just wants to hold onto you since he’s afraid that its all too good to be true.
-He does get jealous and will say something like “That’s my s/o you’re flirting to!” And will get pouty after that because what if you really did want that person? Was he no good enough? He’d cling to your haori and beg you not to leave him.
-Switch with eachother’s haoris! He loves to see you in his and your haori reminds him of you and it feels like you’re wrapped around him. Its great.
-He does try extra harder to protect you but it's still a challenge. It's like, whenever he's about to get attacked, oh well time to run up and tree and cry. But with you? Oh hell no. "Get away from my s/o filthy demon!!" while crying
-But if you saved him?? He'll be a little embarrassed but in his eyes you're his hero.
-Zenitsu really, really loves you. He probably does cheesey stuff like putting your two initials in a heart carved on a tree.
-Please don't break his heart. Poor boy fell super hard for you.
~~~
(I really do love Inosuke but he's kinda hard to write for)
Shrrrriiimp, I heard you like Giyuu and I wanna say I love him too! What do you think about the manga? I haven't read it, but I wanna give it a shot.
if i got to date a hashira, it would be him. 100%, but of course, i love all the other pillars as well too.
forgive me, i am gonna make this a long response. i am gonna solely say everything based on the anime since i know not everyone read the manga.
the manga is very good, and i am a picky person when it comes to reading. the reason why i praise this anime/manga so much is because there's actual controversies of war between humans and demons. it's clear to say that it's "obvious" because demons = bad, humans = good, though the story can differ that because of nezuko, who is a demon and is able to stop herself from drinking human blood and devouring one, which is unlikely in the aspect of the world.
her being a unique demon makes the story interesting, and when you read the manga, you'll learn more about what she can do, and understand muzan's goal.
but to make it short-ish (with no spoilers, just my thoughts),
1. i like how tanjiro isn't an "OP" character that randomly gets stronger out of nowhere, instead, he develops amazing and powerful skills within a good amount of time. this shows in the anime very well. he's physically training and working hard to become stronger in order to be a better demon slayer. the manga gets really more into that which i hope we see in the next season, but if not, the next one.
2. the hashira are my big praise and i will say why. i understand everyone loves rengoku after mugen train, but i really can't wait for anyone who is an anime-watcher to see the full reveal of what the powers of the other hashira can actually do. they have slip-ups, they understand their weaknesses and still make the mistakes, but even so, they give it their all and their strengths are really shown.
you see them struggle, have difficulties getting back on their feet, but they stay true to their nature and loyal as a hashira. they aren't perfect people, and i genuinely love how the manga really appreciates the fact that the hashira have their own faults as well.
if you saw the movie, you know what happened at the end, and that created a lot of conflict itself, because that character was extremely inspiring and powerful to tanjiro, he was even admired by a lot of the hashira as well, and it gives the sense of seriousness that... this is war. the upper moons are no joke.
and by all means, they really are not.
they are extremely deadly, bratty, and super egotistical in some ways but even share devastating backstories (one in particular iykyk). their powers are out of context for me here, the manga can do the explaining itself.
3. which brings me back here to say that i love the conflict of war in it. because it shows actual struggle. that nothing is going to be easy. half of the time, i was left wondering "is this really gonna end in a bad way?" and it turns out to be that case sometimes, or not. you really don't know what's gonna happen cause the fights are so intense, solid, and extreme that you... honestly can't really expect what'll happen next.
4. everyone gets a spotlight. thank god. which really makes me excited for those who are just anime-watchers, again, because the hashira are AMAZING. and they got the lights they deserve. i am extremely stoked for their animated selves to show up on the screens whenever their time to shine comes in the future. (that being said, everyone gets gets important look at their progress and strength, which i absolutely love, because we get a deeper idea of how the hashira turn out to be who they are).
i will be honest with you, anon, i don't read a lot of manga. i have only read, like, maybe 10 manga total up to this point in my life.
but this one... i reread it. twice now. and it still gets me.
every time.
this is also one anime, next to jujutsu kaisen, that i recommend first-time anime watchers to watch if they want a good shonen and an action packed anime. seriously. i may not write a lot about demon slayer on here, but it is one of my favorite animes and mangas ever.
Do you have any zentan headcanons?? I’d love to hear them!
Aww, you bet I do!
Tumblr media
I’m sorry for taking such a long time. But oh dear, are you ready for this anon?
Sleep:
Zenitsu doesn’t say it out loud but he loves Tanjirou’s gentle sound. It makes him feel safe, tells him everything will be okay, and he instinctively reaches for Tanjirou whenever he’s distressed.
(When they’re sleeping, he naturally gravitates to Tanjirou and ended up laying in Tanjirou’s futon with his head resting on the latter’s chest, each thump of the heartbeat soothes every bit of tension he has even when asleep.)
The first time it happens Tanjirou is surprised but he doesn’t mind it much since his late brothers used to sleep in his futon.
Tanjirou must admit he rather likes it honestly, Zenitsu’s hair smells so pleasant. The sweetness of the scent reminds Tanjirou of peaches he used to get as a payment for the charcoal he sold to a kind old lady in some occasion. Needless to say, he can’t help but bury his nose in his golden locks as he breathes in and closes his eyes.
(Zenitsu never really notices he sleeps in Tanjirou’s futon since Tanjirou is an early riser and always wakes up first before him, though he is bewildered. Why did my futon move to the middle?! I-is there a g-GHOST?! DON’T TELL ME IT’S THAT MONSTER HAG—)
Tanjirou is so accustomed to Zenitsu sleeping in his arms futon that he doesn’t sleep well when Zenitsu is away.
For the first time in his life, Tanjirou wakes up grumpy that day, his grumpiness even lasts for a whole day, despite he himself not knowing why. People can sense something is a little… off with him, when asked, he only sighs and shrugs with a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes.
Paying close attention to each other/Food (?) :
Zenitsu listens to Tanjirou attentively, even when he doesn’t look like it.
Sometimes, Tanjirou talks about his siblings and his parents as he braids Nezuko’s hair and thinks nothing much about it, but Zenitsu is genuinely interested in hearing more about them, even offering his comments such as, Hanako and Shigeru sound so adorable, Oh! Rokuta liked unagi? Me too! etc.
It’s gotten until the point that Zenitsu goes, I bet Takeo scolded them or And? Shigeru and Hanako followed you, right? Zenitsu then proceeds to guess things about them correctly; Tanjirou feels as if Zenitsu has known his siblings as much as he does.
One time Tanjirou mentions that tara no me is his favorite food. Some day when Inosuke tries to steal his tara no me tempura, Zenitsu vehemently does his best to stop him. (“That’s his favorite food, you inconsiderate pig!” Zenitsu says as he slaps Inosuke’s hand away. “Here have mine instead.”)
Tanjirou is genuinely touched. He knows he only said it off-handedly and didn’t expect anyone to remember it. From then on, Tanjirou promises himself to pay more attention to what Zenitsu says and do.
(He notices Zenitsu’s eyes lit up whenever he’s munching on dango, wagashi, daifuku, or any sweets, really—Tanjirou often insists on dropping by a confectionery shop after their missions together.) It’s a date.
((He also notices Zenitsu’s faraway gaze when seeing parents holding their child’s hand—Tanjirou stays a little closer and treats him more gently on those times.))
Jealousy:
Zenitsu talks to Nezuko often, it’s pretty much old news really, and Tanjirou is glad that Nezuko has a friend to talk to other than himself, who is her own brother. Though he wonders why his chest feels tight as they smile, Nezuko clutching the flowers that Zenitsu picked and nodding enthusiastically when Zenitsu tells her something with a tender gaze and soft expression Tanjirou rarely sees.
(In actuality, Zenitsu is talking about Tanjirou and how lucky Nezuko is for having such a kind brother. “He’s too kind, always cheering for me,” he smiles, a hand clasps to his chest as his eyes fall shut. “Me, you know? And he‘s often patient with me, and gentle. Although sometimes he’ll snap too, he never gives up on me.”)
Because of his kindness and willingness to help others, Tanjirou is popular among the demon hunters. There’s nobody who doesn’t know him. People greet and often seek him out, trying to squeeze their time to talk to him. At those times, Zenitsu’s mouth and body go auto-pilot and asks, “Who are they, Tanjirou?” while clinging to him and/or sticks close to him.
He’s just looking out for his friend, he’s curious about Tanjirou’s other friends too, okay?! He’s not jealous. Maybe envies Tanjirou a little. But jealous? Absolutely not. He is 100% jealous.
Nightmares:
They both have their fair share of nightmares.
When he’s young, Tanjirou didn’t get many of them but it becomes so frequent ever since his family died and one of his sisters remains because she’s turned into a demon. Rather than dream it’s a memory, a painful one. A memory about that night in which the scent of blood was strangling him, in which he dug graves for his family with his own hands and buried them in their front yard.
He often jolts awake from the nightmares, breathing heavily and tears staining his face and pillow. Quivering as he’s aware of the cold sweat all over him and soaking his yukata regardless of the warmth of the futon, and Zenitsu whose hands grasps him so tightly in his embrace. Being an anchor that grounds him.
Zenitsu is always awake whenever it happens. In a soft voice that makes Tanjirou’s swallow back his cry, he asks Tanjirou if he would like to talk about it and assure him it’s okay if he doesn’t.
Sometimes, through trembling voice, he tells Zenitsu every little detail about how gruesome and painful it is to watch the lives of his whole family draining before his very eyes. Other times Tanjirou can’t even manage to nod or shake his head, let alone answer him. At those time, Tanjirou holds Zenitsu tight and pushes himself to focus on the song Zenitsu is humming while his hand draws a comforting pattern on Tanjirou’s sweat-soaked yukata.
Zenitsu, despite being typically so loud, wakes up from a nightmare quietly. There’s a benefit to his keen sense of hearing and his general wakefulness when asleep, he supposed. During the time he lived with Shihan, he’s trained himself to suppress his cry at night, not wishing to bother the old man who has kindly paid his debt and took him in. It isn’t a big deal compared to what Tanjirou has; mostly vague voices of people who had left him and call him things he already tells himself when he wails and cowers. Something he hears often when he’s alone.
At times, all he needs is to stay close to Tanjirou’s heartbeat, let the steady thumps of his heart drown out the voices and lull him back to sleep.
Other times, when even Tanjirou’s sound can’t quell the voices, he slips out of Tanjirou’s arms and the futon to sit on the veranda, letting the buzz of the crickets fills his ears.
But in those other times, Tanjirou always manages to find his way to him. Draping his checkered haori over their shoulders, he sits next to Zenitsu and grasps his hand in his calloused one. Each time he asks if he wants to tell him about his nightmares Zenitsu would always answer with, “It’s nothing, Tanjirou,” he smiles sheepishly. “Sorry for waking you up, you don’t need to worry about me.”
Honestly, it stings that he can’t help what keeps plaguing Zenitsu. And that Zenitsu shuts him out. But Tanjirou can only offer comfort and trusts that he’ll come to him on his own pace.
When Zenitsu finally does, he can feel the anger crackling like embers in his chest, to those who abandoned him, to those who badmouth Zenitsu, to the demons swarming in Zenitsu’s head. Something that Tanjirou cannot cut down with his nichirin blade.
Though, Tanjirou resorts to whispering him assurance and gives him the affection he deserves, pressing kisses to his forehead, down his temple, his nose, cheeks, and the corner of his mouth.
Other fluffy things that reduce me into a weeping mess:
Tanjirou’s flirting method is actually sincere compliments that make him sound very smooth. He says you look beautiful to Zenitsu as easy as he breathes, he says Zenitsu is kind and strong on many, many occasions and does it as effortless as he smiles.
Zenitsu is very, very weak. He says this often. But one that he considers as his number one weakness is when Tanjirou threads his hair with his hand, his rough fingertips brushing against his ear and thumb on his earlobe. Zenitsu cannot even manage a shriek for his voice is stuck in his head as Tanjirou gazes at him with so much warmth that makes him feel like his face is going to implode from how red it is.
He almost passes out each time this happens. (Curse, Tanjirou! Curse him for being a smooth bastard despite his naivety!)
Cold seasons like autumn and winter are the seasons Zenitsu liked the least, he sniffles while whining to Tanjirou, shivering as he hugs his own body. Sighing, Tanjirou unravels the blue scarf around his neck and wraps it around Zenitsu’s.
It’s… it’s just a scarf—his scarf, but blue looks so pretty on Zenitsu. As he thanks Tanjirou with his little grin, the breeze rustles the yellow ginko tree overhead and Zenitsu’s hair, and Tanjirou is left breathless.
Tanjirou can’t really lie, rather he’s really terrible at it. When he thinks Zenitsu is being gross or he’s being obnoxious, he tells him so with the intention that Zenitsu should stop whatever he is doing, and the clarity and steadiness of his heartbeat express the trueness of his words. But what confuses Zenitsu to no end is how he said it with a fond look??? Which nullifies the effect? And confuses Zenitsu to no end??
Late night thoughts #1 — KnY demons and Disney
It's currently 6am here and I haven't been able to fall asleep yet so this still counts as late night thoughts, right? Well, even if not, just enjoy the crack please.
Also, when talking about movies that have been remade, I'm taking the old versions, I haven't seen any of the remakes yet and I'm not exactly planning on it either.
Muzan
Honestly prefers Dreamworks over Disney, especially their earlier works.
Probably still enjoyed Great Mouse Detective or The Black Cauldron. Oh right, and Hunchback of Notre Dame had its good moments for him.
Has that one book that ends every story before the villain gets defeated so it's like they won.
Kokushibou
Genuinely believes Mulan is the only valid Disney film. And that's really only thanks to Li Shang.
Will cut you up if you mention the sequel tho.
One he really hates is Lion King. It just hits too close to home for him.
Douma
HUGE Frozen fan. Emotionally constipated orphaned princess with ice powers who's lived her whole life in isolation and doesn't get people? Come on.
He felt a little called out at first but then he learnt Let It Go by heart.
Saw the sequel at 50 times at the cinema before letting someone talk him into buying the DVD. Cried every time.
Akaza
Really likes Mulan too. And for some reason The Little Mermaid and Hercules too but Mulan is his no. 1.
Won't admit it but he can lip-sync every single song in those movies. Ok, let's be fair, he can lip-sync the whole Mulan movie.
Also enjoyed the Hercules spin-off series even if he rarely got any of the refferences.
Hantengu (and his chaotic boy band)
Actually have Disney movie night marathons. Usually only Yoroko and Karaku make it till morning.
Every single one of them loves Lion King. Sometimes it's on twice in one night. The sequels not so much but Yoroko digs the Hakuna Matata one.
Sekido sometimes does Scar impressions when they act out. Some of them are actually scared of him (and Zira too).
Nakime
The Little Mermaid or Hunchback of Notre Dame are really the only two she enjoyed.
Still can play just about every Disney song EVER on her biwa. She can also sing but usually doesn't.
Yes, that includes songs from sequels and spin-offs. She has lots of time in the Fortress.
Gyokko
Not all that much into Disney, prefers japanese animation most of the time. And japanese movies in general.
Heard of the Ao Oni live action movies? He sent a couple letters to Disney, asking them to adapt the other novels.
Sometimes likes a little comedy. Emperor's New Groove really fell in line with his taste.
Daki
Thinks Cinderella is a comedy. So is Snow White. So is Sleeping Beauty. Yeah, every princess story is a comedy.
Secretly cried in her pillow when she thought Snow White died but nobody can know this.
All-time favourite is Bambi because humans are disgusting.
Gyutaro
Usually just watches whatever Daki does, only rarely on his own.
Likes Pixar production more than Disney originals but it's not major.
Adores Princess and the Frog and Hunchback for obvious reasons (though the literary basis for the later one hurt him to read).
Kaigaku
Not a very big fan but he enjoys the older movies. Thinks the new ones suck and isn't afraid to say that to your face.
For some reason really likes Robin Hood. And Oliver & company.
Can and will sing rock/metal versions of every Disney song that has such a version already made. Has made children cry with this in the past and can again if desired.
Enmu
Ever heard of Great Locomotive Chase? Being based on an actual event makes it all the more appealing to him. He will watch anything tho.
Usually falls asleep within first three minutes but somehow remembers everything anyway?
Sometimes goes to cons or public reading events to share the "real stories" the Disney movies were based on. He's banned from 4 cons and 26 libraries all across Japan so far.
Rokuro
Actually really loves Disney and remembers at least one quote for every character who has at least a line.
Really likes all The Three Musketeers movies.
Sometimes a little confused about early Dreamworks production since they look so similar.
Wakuraba
Not that much of a fan but he knows the classics. Not that any of them speaks to him personally.
Sometimes gets called Banzai after that one hyena in Lion King. He hates it but at least it's not Ed.
Doesn't realize Disney doesn't only make animated movies. Maybe one day.
Mukago
Knows the Disney renessaince era and then the modern movies. Also heard of Lady and Tramp at one point.
Probably kinda likes Pocahontas and doesn't understand why are the americans so angry about it.
Paint With All the Colours of the Wind is forever his (her?) ringtone and you can't do anything about it.
Rui (and fam)
Apparently there was a movie called The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.
He gets bored by it anyway but keeps it on for the aesthetics.
Also have movie nights but usually not Disney-only. And he's the only one allowed to pick movies anyway. Bambi or Lion King are common choices.
Kamanue
Dreamworks fan.
Used to enjoy Marvel but refuses to support Disney.
Gets stuck babysitting Enmu far too often tho so he knows all the movies anyway.
Kyogai
Underrated movies fan. Both the "dark era" of Disney animation and anything else that got lost over time.
Top favourite is, and will forever be, Treasure Planet. He squeels like a little kid when watching that one.
Thinks sequels deserve some love too even if they weren't as good as the originals.
Susamaru
Star Wars fan mostly but won't say no to some older Disney classic. Just not anything too "woke" or princessy.
Emperor's New Groove is right up her alley and she knows everything about the movie.
Also really liked the Jungle Book. Except for the ending. She just wants Mowgli to grow up to be the next Tarzan but without the girl.
Yahaba
Prefers the book originals and complains about adaptations way too much.
Kind of enjoyed Hercules because of all the refferences to old mythology, that made him feel smart. But they messed up a few things so there's that.
What do you mean Prince of Egypt is not Disney?
Tamayo
Casual fan, doesn't really get the appeal beyond "Aw, what a cute cartoon!"
Not a fan of the dirty jokes slipped in sometimes, nor the other adult refferences.
Likes Jane from Tarzan because she's a good girl who came to study animals and found love and was overall super wholesome. She also likes Belle.
Yushiro
Pretends to be annoyed but actually loves princess movies most of them all.
Has a secret collection of figurines. Everything he can get his hands on, though villains usually get burnt or otherwise creatively disposed of.
Convinced Tamayo is a princess and that birds do her hair every morning. You can't change his mind.
Swamp triplets
Princess movies preffered because the girls are really pretty (and sometimes below 16, let's be fair).
Can never agree which one is the best though. One says it's Belle, Two claims Moana is superior to any princess, Three usually goes with Snow White or Sleeping Beauty but he can't make up his mind.
All of them are kinda scared of Jafar because he reminds them of Muzan a bit.
Hand demon
Probably knows all the animated movies by heart. And all the villain songs.
Loves Brother Bear. A lot.
Still scared of the bad guys, he just thinks they have hip songs and cool style.
Nezuko
Looks up to the badass Disney girls. No, not Anna and Elsa, the actual badass Disney girls.
Sometimes jokes that Tanjiro and her are a bit like Lilo and Stitch. Tanjiro makes sure to point out she's a princess though.
Absolutely loves Big Hero Six and Zootopia. You know, obvious reasons.
summer 2019 anime sum-up
lmao i realized i never did this and posted the fall season b4 this.... oops
kimetsu no yaiba: tbh started out kinda meh. and now it’s turned into one of the new big shounens. i was not expecting that. nearing the end got rly good and i was rly looking forward to more episodes! tanjiro gets cooler and cooler! animation is rly nice (thanks ufotable) and the way tanjiro’s water is animated. like. aesthetic asf. it’s so good. i love black-haired emo dude and zenitsu (my spirit animal) and ofc nezuko she is adorable im c r y. side note: the hashira? i think they’re called? some of the ugliest fkn characters i’ve seen in ages like flame boy? stone boy? i HATE them. and the gem dude too like man get a new tattoo artist on god.... he needs it.,,,,,,and inosuke is so pretty it’s unfair
dr stone: ok man dr stone rly went off. tbh. i’ve always been a whore for chemistry since reading the flavia de luce series (btw, i want more books of) and watching this just tickles my noodle brain in a good way... who needs prozac when i get a shitton of serotonin from watching senku dick around....  (btw what is going on with what’s his face and the girl. yuzuriha????? i can’t remember. i love senku don’t get me wrong but i need their perspective too... bc i hate lion dude... so much.... dick....) again i will repeat that i am a whore for chemistry so i get oFF on this. backgrounds are amazing/ animation so nice n clean (most o the time lmao). i thought i would hate the black n white haired trickster boi and ms yellow ponytail and suika but no! dr stone is such a good show that they are now great, loveable characters. also i am senku and chrome’s whore so jfc. man, i love the explanations of all the chemistry shabang, but some things i think would be better if explained! like senku doing physical labour at the beginning- ex. making all those pots and building that shit by hisself. i know he weak af. yes he smart but like. construction? difficult. pottery? even for me the artist . difficult. and that shed of his was filled to the brim. HOW. anyways, i love this so much i am crying constantly
just realized i didnt need to write about dr stone. oh well.
danmachi 2: wtf yo. haruhime is so pretty but not a fan of her personality! bell still cute af and still don’t rly like aiz! animation good as always, and my god i shit myself whenever the argonaut theme starts up bc that is ? one of the best pieces of non-sawano hiroyuki pieces i’ve ever heard? addicted to it. and the opening! love the dynamics, the brief ‘rain’ scenes like when mikoto slashes the raindrops and just her motion basically? as an animator that is what i aspire to accomplish because i just love that. tiny little scene.
arifureta: this would have been so much better had they dragged out mc’s op-ifying process! made him suffer more! i explained this briefly in my ‘first thoughts’ post for this season, but story-wise and pacing-wise his power-up could have been so much more deserved and gratifying. think shield hero- loser suffers, gets angry, slowly builds up power in an epic payoff! would have been so epic too. and also if they’d made his gained powers less.... crazy nerfed. again: HE SHOULD HAVE SUFFERED MORE AND THIS WOULD HAVE MADE A BETTER SHOW. harem thoughts: yue- meh. sucky char honestly. shea- my fav girl, she is a great character don’t judge- sexy and love her personality and love her character design and love how much fanservice she gets lol. panty flash ftw. dragon girl- discount darkness honestly , tho nice design. and mermaid girl- yuck, annoying,  DO NOT like the ‘papa’ trope! (ahem sao.) it’s gross. also just fuck mc’s classmates honestly- paladin dude sucks ass, healer girl OOF that last episode ruined her, samurai girl is ok i guess. hate ai-sensei too like shut UPP annoying ass HOEEEEE (postscript: opening=very epic too)
kanata no astra: plot twist? check. trillion well-done plot twists? check. this was done very well. i am so happy. all those plot twists and turns would usually suck in any regular anime- but this was written with GODLIKE ability. thank you, lerche. legit, this was such an enjoyable ride, i eagerly awaited each new ep! typically i hate space-related stuff but like! survival stuff gets my goat.... like this was good- (tho maybe more technical-stuff in the survival theme would make it so cooler) what shocked me the most: (spoilers alert) didn’t end up hating quitterie or funi. (tho the puppet made me want to strangle smth) luca’s gender had rly confused me but i’d decided on him being a boy- so basically that reveal left me like WHOA. i died. did luca rly have to show emo boy their tity tho... kanata losing his arm gave me the yeeeks, charce being the traitor was made sO WELL into a surprise even tho i’d kinda already suspected him<- like that was just fucking amazing writing there. gj. and ares the princess! ok man! shocked! AND also the whole clone thing, just fucked me right up. up the ass. like there are probably more plot twist layers in this than a fkn ogre has.... anyway shrek aside, yun?’s character arc was very pleasing, i think that was done very well! and the ending made me UwU like BRO? goals tbh. yeah this is a hidden gem and is just so good, so well-written overall.
cop craft: didn’t have high expectations. i am now,,, quite,,, shocked &,,, blown away. sweetheart this is a good fucking show. so why @ livechart.me DOES IT HAVE 7.40 STARS WHEN FKN ARIFURETA HAS 7.72. can someone explain this to me? i’m outraged. LIVID.  matoba and tilarna were amazing characters btw! loved their dynamic! briefly i thought it might get romantic! nope, it didn’t, so it’s all good. actions scenes were epic, tilarna’s design and outfits were so much nicer than i thought they’d be like. she is so cute. and the op- man, if that is not such a bopper vibe then idk what is. i could watch it forever. it deserves so much more than what it’s got rn.
naka no hito genome: (serious question: is this considered some sort of isekai?) genome gave me btooom vibes honestly but like- this is SO much better than btooom and most game/trap/ kinda shows. fkn BOP of an op, especially the sequence at the end with short clips of each character in action (nutt). paka-san was a good boy and he deserves irl merch. i fell in LOve with all the characters (bubble boy= hot, akatsuki= ok meh actually kinda boring, karin= hot and i want her to punch me, ruromori= beautiful 12/10 would let her stalk me, sleepy eyes boy= baby + dazai vibes and hot af, twin boy= also hot, onigasaki= hot and love him so much, and loli girl= her light grenades got annoying but nice char design) anyways yeah more of this would be epic. i wanna see sakura and her twin reunite, and how they get out basically! also animation quality was very good which is surprising considering it’s a silver link anime.
kono yo no hate de koi wo utau shoujo yu-no: i include the whole title bc this is a good anime. (also livechart.me why 7.27 stars i will fuck you up) only meh part of this is the return to earth from dela granto bc that was like a culture shock and honestly at that point i’d forgotten a lot about what had happened on earth and didn’t care as much. btw, f ayumi and f the other brown-haired oneesan. mio and kanna ftw. obvs i didn’t understand the sayless x takuya thing like dumbass horny teenager . why u gotta creampie the worst girl. u have mio. bruh. (tho mio x ‘oyabi!’ boy is a great ship) also, takuya’s mom? keiko-san? idk if you’ve noticed but that’s literally my name so yeah just glad to finally have some keiko representation. altogether goodass anime. the time travel/ rezero esque reset thing almost got me but this was done well. so no problems. both ops very good. first song was bae, second also bae (just realized it’s by konomi suzuki, one of my waifu idols, so yea nice) and ed2 also so pretty! also yu-no’s design was rly pretty, the outfit colours, and her pigtails rly suited her :)
granbelm: sorry this is the last one lol this was a long ass post! other than the fact i dont rly like mecha this was good.... action, CHARACTER designs aesthetic asf, honestly rly pretty ok. i liked the cast, very diverse and more depth than most shows of this ilk. op was nicely choreographed- especially the part where the girls’ faces are contorted by their gems, showing their magical girl side. nicely done. mangetsu didn’t end up being that bad a char, and honestly? suigetsu is best girl and deserved better. and the ending too- like, bro, that made me kinda sad. some off points: anna’s mom was a little unrealistic as a mom like woman- please learn to control your child, and, white-haired girl’s sister should have played a bigger part, based on how her parts in the opening were emphasized! (quick note- blue girl, love her, great bad guy, when she dumped anna made me so happy honestly, she is beautiful, and i couldn’t actually decide who i wanted to win between her and suigetsu....)
hope u enjoyed this bad review. pls share ur opinions w/ me on some of of these more controversial shows. thank.
Rating the anime I’ve watched in 2019: A really short list
Kinda just felt like doing this, 2019 has been a REALLY interesting year in anime. I didn’t watch a whole lot of stuff, but I wanted to kind of go over what I did watch. So I’ll talk about what I thought and rate it 1-10.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND: THEY’RE RATED SOLELY ON MY OPINIONS, IF I DON’T FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT ONE PLEASE DON’T GET MAD. ALSO ALL OF THESE WERE WATCHED IN SUBS. ALSO SPOILERS AHOY.
1. Dororo.
The OP was AWESOME. The animation in the first half of the series was really smooth, but there was a slightly noticeable dip in animation later on. Not huge, but still there. Actors were FANTASTIC, and the little girl who plays Dororo is so cute! Characters were incredibly well written and varied, Hyakkimaru still struggled despite his honed reflexes and training, and Tahomaru was so morally divisive, it was great. Somber tones really bring out the nasty forbidden underside of the Shogunate’s “lasting peace”. Though the ending with Tahomaru, Hyakkimaru’s mother, and his father figure all dying in the fire was rather... disappointing, Hyakkimaru forgiving his father and Dororo deciding what to do with the large sum of money left behind, to use it for the greater good, wraps everything up.
Dororo’s a solid 8/10.
2. Rising of the Shield Hero
I ended up checking this one out after hearing all the controversy it was stirring up, because I wanted to see what it was. Like always, the “controversy” was a big tepid pile of nothing, and I got to experience an isekai that operates under a different mood with different dynamics. Animation quality is consistent and good, and there’s a LOT of female characters that are well rounded and strong, like Raphtalia, Melty, the Filolial Queen, Glass, etc. Scenery is beautiful, and Naofumi’s growth into trusting again is nice to watch. Also the soundtrack is so enjoyable, Kansas is my favorite song. Cons, though few, are still there: the pacing can be a little funky at times (Mainly what comes to mind is that AWFUL filler episode where they fight the Church from the molten pit, and don’t move AT ALL. Worst episode ever), the physical growth of some of the characters like Filo is jarring (In two days she grows horse sized, after they had that montage of taking care of her) even with an explanation. The last thing that rubs me the wrong way (It’s not really a con in general, just a con for me) is Raphtalia’s crush on Naofumi. It’s simply that they spend the first few episodes building their relationship as a father/daughter, then they try to shift to romance after establishing that first familial relationship.
Rising of the Shield Hero’s an 8/10.
3. The Promised Neverland
AAAAAAAH HOT DAMN I LOVED THIS ONE. It was completely out of my range of what I normally watched at the beginning of 2019, BUT I LOVED IT SO MUCH. The animation is eerie, especially the facial expressions and how smoothly they move. The children are so darling and thinking about how they might have possibly died in S1 broke my heart, as well as me hoping they didn’t, lol. Every episode leaves off on this wonderfully tantalizing cliffhanger, so binging the episodes are a must. Characters like Mama and Sister Krone are terrifying, though in the latter’s case I love how clever she was, and was sad when she died. Her Japanese actress definitely blew it out of the water and had a lot of fun with the character. I’d say the only (not really a con, but) thing that weirds me out is how close the characters’ mouths are to their faces, but that’s a stylistic thing and I won’t fault them for that. The children are strong and resilient and I can’t wait for the next season.
The Promised Neverland’s a 9/10.
4. Demon Slayer
I got into this one late, and I hate myself for getting into it late. But nonetheless, I’m so glad I watched it and I can say with confidence it’s up there with FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’s level of excellence. Tanjiro is such a kind-hearted boy who constantly puts himself through physical torture for his only remaining family; Nezuko’s “hypnotism” to see humans as family feels more like placebo because she just genuinely has compassion for people, especially when she looks at Ms Tamayo and Yushiro as family when they’re also demons. All the characters are deeply involved in this story with either known or hidden (Zenitsu) strengths that allow them to conquer their struggles. The style is unique and the character designs are pretty, and HOO BOY THE FIGHTING ANIMATIONS, THE STYLIZED TECHNIQUES. MWAH! MUCH LOVE! I love the soundtrack so much, it almost reminds me of the Pokemon movies’ orchestra pieces. The story is well paced, and no issues with filler. Showing how even demons deserve compassion is a beautifully unexpected twist in this show.
Demon Slayer’s a 10/10
5. To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts
I do love this series dearly, and while the good outweighs the “meh”, I still have to address the issues. BUT FIRST, THE GOOD THINGS: Characters in this show are incredibly in-depth, even the soldiers. The designs of the Incarnates are fantastic, terrifying and imposing. Schaal is a strong young girl who sets off with just a suitcase and a rifle and, after meeting Hank, decides to get inside his mindset to see why he’s doing what he does, and why he had to kill her father. Hank is a man in constant suffering who has to see his best friends losing themselves to insanity, knowing that they’re not the people they used to be but questioning whether he’s really doing the right thing regardless. All the soldiers have their own focal point in the episodes they show up in, showing their unique traits and attitudes, and how it links to the monsters they are now. The concept of Incarnate soldiers is parallel to veterans with PTSD. While Liza’s a bit of a ridiculous fan-service character, there’s really no complaints because the fan-service in this show is balanced; they show Hank unnecessarily shirtless a LOT (Though honestly I’d be fine if they let him wear his shirts more). But the cons. There are a decent amount of them. Animation is clunky and lower budget. Pacing is not easy to keep up with, as the split between Hank’s mission and the main conflict with Cain interrupt each other quite jarringly. Schaal’s father seemingly rises as a zombie again to serve no other purpose other than Schaal’s character growth, as we could assume that a LOT of the other monsters like Keynes, with the fire of justice, would also come back to life. Liza doesn’t really seem to do much or contribute much as a character; she came close when she volunteered to take up the Incarnate Extermination Squad’s equipment by saying she knew how it worked but she literally. Just. Held up a shield for the commander (forgot his name, Cain’s little bro) to jump off of. She needs to do more. Love the series and I love watching it, but it’s a mixed bag.
To the Abandoned Sacred Beast’s a 7/10.
6. Fire Force.
Well... this one is definitely gonna be tough to deal with, because I only got maybe 8 or 9 episodes in before I had to break away. So I’ll break it down simply.
Pros: Animation is SOLID. ABSOLUTE. FLUID AND DYNAMIC. It’s literally Midoriya vs Todoroki, but in EVERY EPISODE. Some characters are fascinating and enjoyable like Shinra, Maki, Joker, and Hibana. The concept of Infernals, people who just burst into flames without warning, are a solid idea to run on. The OP is a banger. The soundtrack fits the mood perfectly.
Cons, and a lot of them: There isn’t a whole lot going on in terms of variety, it’s mainly fighting Infernals in the city. It picks up eventually, but slowly. While some characters were enjoyable, others were either flat or downright unbearable to deal with; flat characters like Obi (He’s not a bad character, but he feels... generic) and Iris (Also not bad, she’s strong in what she’s had to deal with and being kind regardless, but it’s just standard quiet girl.). Unbearable character is really just two so far: The lieutenant, who gets borderline abusive (both mentally and physically) with Maki (Like I get it dude, you had trauma with fire and Infernals but you don’t need to be an abusive shit), and Tamaki, ESPECIALLY Tamaki. She’s rude, screechy, treated Shinra like utter shit when they first meet, and respects almost no one outside of her district for no real reason. And she also falls into the next con: The one-sided fan-service. Now I will defend the right to fan-service with everything I believe in, but I’m still allowed to have my opinion on it, and the way it goes in Fire Force is just... so awful. Fan-service jarringly interrupts what are supposed to be heavy emotional or important scenes (Iris sitting on the ground with nothing but a towel, Iris getting her clothes burned off by Hibana, Tamaki sticking her butt out after getting hurt by her district partner, Tamaki’s clothes being burned up and being against the wall with that weird-ass kitty pose with her wrists, etc.), Tamaki’s “lucky lechery” is supposed to be funny somehow but it makes literally no sense, and oh cool she ends up sexually harassing the dudes with it, too. I could understand this level of fan-service if it was like a harem anime or a cheese-cake-ish anime or whatever, but it’s- it’s a shounen. There’s nothing that really shows you there’s gonna be this weird level of fan-service.
I respect everyone who loves Fire Force, but it’s just not my cup of tea. That’s all.
Fire Force’s a 6.5/10.
7. Vinland Saga
THIS ANIME. THIS ANIME IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY AND YOU WILL NEVER CHANGE MY MIND. The first OP PERFECTLY encapsulates just how much of a hellish live Thorfinn is about to live. The animation (Being from the same company as Attack on Titan and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) is SUPERB where the characters move with weight and purpose. Seriously, have you seen how the characters jump forward? With their legs and arms forward? It’s a little detail but it’s so great. Characters are multi-faceted and it gives me strong feelings about how awful they are but how clever or strong or brilliant they are. The pacing of the anime is perfect; something plot-important happens in each episode, the characters travel long distances to give you a feel of movement, and there’s not a single episode that could really be considered “filler”. Dynamics of these characters work in fascinating ways at times. The actors absolutely own their roles; Askeladd’s actor nails that perfect nonchalance where he seems surprised but you know he’s truly not, Thorfinn’s older actor knows how to scream his lungs out in anger. The main star, though? Thorkell, hands down. That guy is absolutely having fun with his character.
Vinland Saga’s a solid 10/10.
