Judy Garland (Meet Me In St. Louis, A Star is Born, Summer Stock)— Judy is the GOAT when it comes to classic movie musicals. The voice of an angel who deserved so much better than she got. She can sing she can dance she can act she's a triple threat. Though she had a turbulent personal life (her treatment as a child star by the studio system makes me mad as hell like Louis b Mayer fight me ((she was made to believe that she was physically unattractive by the constant criticism of film executives who made her feel ugly and who manipulated her onscreen appearance by capping her teeth and using discs in her nose to change its shape and Mayer called her "my little hunchback" like imagine hearing that as a child and not having damage)) she always goddamn delivered on screen and in any performance she gave. She began in vaudeville performing with her sisters and was signed to MGM at 13. Starting out in supporting parts especially paired with mickey Rooney in a bunch of films (she's the best part tbh) she eventually transferred to the lead role. She is best known for her starring role in movie musicals like the iconic Wizard of Oz (somewhere over the rainbow still hits hard and is ranked the top film song of all time), meet me in St. Louis (Judy singing have your self a merry little Christmas brings tears to the eyes she is that powerful), the Harvey girls (she looks like a technicolor dream and sings a catchy af song about trains), Easter parade ( dancing and singing with Fred Astaire), for me and my gal, the pirate, and summer stock ( with pal Gene Kelly who she helped when he was starting out and he helped her when she was struggling). But she also does non- singing just as well like the clock ( her first movie where she sings no songs and is an underrated ww2 era romance), her Oscar nominated a star is born ( like the man that got away she put her whole soul in that and I have beef with the fact she lost to grace kelly ((whom I love but like still not even her best work)), and judgement at Nuremberg (a courtroom drama about the nazi war criminal trials). Outside of film she made concert appearances to record-breaking audiences, released 8 studio albums, and had her own Emmy-nominated tv series. She was the youngest (39) and first female recipient of the Cecil B DeMille award for lifetime achievement in the film industry. Girl was a lifelong democrat and was a financial and moral supporter of many causes including the civil rights movement (she was at the March on Washington and held a press conference to protest the 16th street Baptist church bombings). She was a friend of the Kennedy family and would call jfk weekly often ending the calls by singing the first few lines of somewhere over the rainbow (she thought of them as Gemini twins).She was a member of the committee for the first amendment which was formed in response to the HUAC investigations. Though she died far too young and tragically she remains an icon for her work and her life. As a girl who didn't feel like i was as pretty as everyone else I have always felt a connection to Judy and I just really love her.

Natalie Wood (West Side Story, The Great Race)—She went through so much shit which I know can be said for all these women but Natalie really was a star and her death often overshadows her career and life. She could make you cry, but she also had the capacity to be incredibly funny which I think is lost on people.

Judy's voice alone qualifies her for at least top ten hottest HOT VINTAGE MOVIE WOMEN. She was a truly incredible swing singer, with a stunning voice on top of her technique. Her short dark hair looked incredible in just about any style. Have I mentioned her swagger? I can’t do it justice with words. She had swagger. She was funny as hell, and clever too. Incredibly charming and cool. I adore her.

Art & Vedic Astrology

i thought ill make a post about the recurring motifs, patterns, techniques that different nakshatra natives seem to resort to in their art work!! so here it goes<3

Punarvasu

Punarvasu natives often use matrixes, mazes, repetition, interloping patterns, and tessellation in their work.

Pedro Friedeberg

He has Punarvasu rising and he is known for surreal, abstract and whimsical style

he repeatedly used the same patterns over and over again in his work

Claire Nakti's new YT short did mention that these natives were very prominent in the Surrealist art movement and I often see how they have this surreal, whimsical element in their artwork. Often using bright colours and repeating the same pattern/motif over and over again.

the Punarvasu aesthetic is veered towards maximalism. however these natives do not like clutter or maximalism that is random? if you look at any of these artworks, you can see how the same pattern is repeated many many times (a common theme in the work of these natives) its not 8 different patterns or motifs, so there is a sense of minimalism or balance within their otherwise eclectic seeming art creations.

MC Escher

If I use the term "tessellation", the artist that would come to mind for most people is MC Escher (Ketu in Punarvasu). he had a thing for repetitive imagery and using the same pattern over and over again.

he made the technique of tessellation as well known as it is now. in fact it was Escher's signature style

alt-j has a song called "tesselate" and its written by joe newman (the lead vocal) who also has ketu in punarvasu!!

Harmony Korine

He has Ketu in Punarvasu and you can see how he uses endless circles in his work, going back to Punarvasu's association with the endless nature of the universe

he returns to the same motif again and again

or draws the same pattern repeatedly

Paul Klee

he has ketu in punarvasu and his venus & rising in swati, another nak associated with infinite space and abundance

there is a tendency to use the same pattern repeatedly

once again the punarvasu urge to use bright colors and repeat the patterns, themes, motifs

and there's a lot of interlooping

He is Punarvasu moon

There is tessellation and use of bright colors

repeatedly using the same shapes, patterns and the work being maximalist outwardly but minimal in essence

lots of interloping because punarvasu is the endless infinity of the cosmos!!

Ashlesha

slightly similar to Punarvasu natives, these natives also seem to love repetition and pattern making

Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama is Ashlesha moon and this art installation definitely seems to invoke serpentine vibes but sticks to the whimsical, colorful, exuberant nature that is Kusama's trademark

her birth time is unknown but I strongly believe that she has Punarvasu rising tbh

i mean??? her work is very punarvasu coded imo but here's more of her ashlesha esque work

Princess Fahrelnissa Zeid

She is Ashlesha moon

Ashlesha natives love color and using bold patterns and designs in their work but their work is maximalist through and through

with Punarvasu, their artworks were almost minimalist compared to the hypermaximalist works that Ashlesha natives seem to create

Keith Haring

He is Ashlesha rising and we can see how he consistently used similar motifs throughout his work but his work is very loud and very maximalist

He is an Ashlesha moon and his works also have the same eclectic, colorful and "loud" aesthetic that we saw in the works of other Ashlesha natives

do you see how there is a similar running motif in all his works but compared to the works of a Punarvasu native, an Ashlesha native work seems far more frenetic and fast(?) there is a different degree of intensity

he's extremely clingy. like. extremely.

he enjoys sticking very close to you, skin to skin. if you're working and he happens to be there doing nothing- he's either wrapping his arms around you or laying his head on your lap.

he enjoys it when you run your fingers through his hair and braid it whenever you feel like it, it causes him to start purring,, deep rumbles that shake up your whole body.

the greatest comparison to kars is a giant panther. craves your attention every other day and won't stop touching you till you finally give in and give him the attention he wants. its as if you don't acknowledge his existence constantly, he might just shrivel up and die. he's very much for the dramatics

he can be such a brat if you don't give in though- snarling at you, baring his teeth as a threat, snapping his jaws,, as if that's going to scare you anymore.

acts as if your attention isn't what he craves 24/7, whether it just be simple conversation or being in your presence in general.

when he finally notices you're going to keep ignoring him until he shapes up- kars all of the sudden becomes all whiny and pouty, trying to get on your good side by bringing/making you gifts.

it works, and he's satisfied in the end.

"What? You're leaving? Can I come with? It's much too boring here without you, dearest."

ESIDISI — 🫀🔥

definitely not as clingy as kars, but likes showing you overt feats of strength in hopes of impressing you.

oh you're struggling to lift up and move this couch? UP AND OVER HIS SHOULD IT GOES! he may or may not have benched said couch as well just to see you laugh and smile

a particularly tight jam jar that won't open? one loud pop later, and you've got it open because he loves you so much.

he does adore when you praise him whenever he does a good job, and with that comes the habit of him biting you whenever he gets too excited. a gentle nibble just to feel his fangs against your skin. doesn't bite thru unless you specifically say so, he's only doing it hard enough to leave a faint bruise behind.

its a sign of affection he does randomly thruout the day, even if you're speaking to someone else- he comes up from behind and gently bites down on any exposed patch of skin he can get his mouth on. he just grins whenever you turn around completely flabbergasted, he thinks you're fucking adorable

this also relates to how he likes seeing you marked up with his teeth, makes his silly brain happy.

HUGE on cuddling. he's so big and warm, so he's a master at big spooning in bed. no blankets. esidisi only. my boy.

also enjoys cooking amazing breakfasts for you just bc he can,, love of my live.

he's a shy fella so you'll have to gently coax him out of his shell over time

he shows his affection through sparring with you mostly. he knows you're a lot more fragile than he is so he makes sure to be hella fucking careful with you. if he does accidentally hurt you, he's picking you up bridal style, taking you home and pampering you to all hell. def looking like a sad puppy the entire time too

he thrives off quality time and acts of service so whenever you actively put off work just to stay home and just,,, cook with him or watch a show [he doesnt understand what the fuck is going on, he's only watching it for you], he fucking LOVES IT.

he's so smitten whenever you lean in and gently kiss his lips, caress his cheek and say "i love you". you treat him like any other person but he also feels like he's the most special person in the world.

has a tendency to rub up against you like a cat, just to feel you close to him.

he and kars rival each other with how possessive they can be of you. except santana makes it known that he doesn't like people being touchy on you.

whenever you get home from a long day at work, he's immediately there to greet you with a tight hug that usually ends up in him holding onto you for a couple hours after that just bc he doesn't like the fact that he can smell other people on you.

sometimes, if he's feeling a little lonely, he'll find a way to sneak himself into your job with a bag of food and him trying to convince you to leave with him without a trace.

he got your favourite on purpose because he knows that if he gives you those puppy dog eyes along with the fact that you haven't eaten lunch yet- you're going to give in pretty quickly.

you aren't even sure how he managed to get into the building either.

def the type of guy to always have a hand on you, whether that be an arm over your shoulder or holding your hand, he's touchin a whole bunch because you're his and he is yours.

he has a wicked death glare he gives people that get too close to you. you told him not to kill people he just doesn't like so why not scare them into leaving?

also a little on the bitey side, but only if he's looking for you to stay close whenever he's feeling sad. baby boyy,,

one of those Redesigns.

i feel like, not quite being a fan of viv, i know where her art style and design choices are coming from and we quite agree on a lot of it, its very influenced by 2000s scene culture. i don't think her designs would hit the same way if that scene influence was not present. its present in the fur, the stripes, the face shapes and colors. i think it's charming, and i think a lot of designs iron that out to make her designs less tumblr sexyman or whatever. and thats fine, but as a fan of all those 2000s scene designs, i don't really want to ruin what i find appealing about her designs and art style. i just want them to be more grounded, more understandable, and less obnoxious.

so for AD here, i just wanted to amke him more spider like and figure out his face shape. i like his face shape, its very flowy and fun to draw, but it doesnt make any sense. i tried to make his side? hair into cheek fluff, he's some kind of furry spider and i gave him a sort of diamond/triangular shape to his head to emphasize that. his hair, which is sooooo 2000s scenedog, i couldn't NOT keep that its one of my favorite things of that era. its goofy and obnoxious, but honestly, i like that.

i think there was wasted potential not making one of his spider eyes to be his eyebrows. (raven, anyone?) i think it allows the design to have these different eye colors without making him TOO special for those odd colored eyes. the rest are just next to his eyes, i think you can place them in any different configuration and it works tbh. i also gave him some spiky pedipalp like mouth appendages to add to the spider motif and made one of them gold, instead of one of his teeth. i think its a bit more eye catching that way.

the lower body is basically the drastic design change. he's a spider, but he doesn't have 4 pairs of limbs or even an abdomen. i gave the abdomen some fluff, because tarantulas have fluffy abdomens, and i removed his extra arms (clutters the design and silhouette too much) and gave him 3 pairs of legs in a sort of squidward type of leg style. i can see him skittering around on his multiple legs, while allowing the shape to be sexy since he's trying to be sexy.

with this design, i feel like he has more freedom with posing without his silhouette being compromised by so many long spindly things. i love long and spindly, but you need to balance it out too. big round shapes are just as fun as thin spiky ones.

the rest is just my personal touches as an artist who likes 2000s scene dog art. me and viv tend to converge on design sensibilities, but i think i have more tact and especially more subtlety in my designs than her. tee hee

I’ve drawn Hermes properly like, once before I think? in this comic! there’s another illustration of the same kind of scene with him, but I’m not a big fan of it and I’m thinking of redoing it sometime this year

ANYWAY character design advice! the Team Fortress 2 school of design will never steer you wrong (recognizable silhouettes), and one teacher I had personally liked the ‘opposites’ rule of character design, where you want some kind of noticeable ‘opposite’ of a character if you’re mostly doing pairs in a scene (so tall > short, that kind of thing). I personally adhere to whatever I think suits the narrative best/in a fun way. like, Crassus and Pompey are set up specifically for the story I have in mind

Pomepy is supposed to (eventually, it takes him a minute) be bulky enough that he could fold Crassus in half like laundry if he felt like it, and Crassus is supposed to look tall and thin, but he’s more lean muscle and could probably break your jaw if he hit you, and the subtextual narrative is about exploring all the ways they DON’T touch each other in the acts of violence that their bodies would be suited for, which is in total defiance of what comes before them, and also after (Antony and Octavian have a similar visual pairing, and it’s all physical violence there, baby)

in other news, I have a hard time figuring out a consistent character design until I figure out the story I want to tell lmao

there’s more about figuring out repeat draw ability vs complexity, balancing out overall design shape with accessories, clothes conveying personality and intent (character design work is a whole specialty tbh), but I tend to be a little more laid back about it because I’m more interested in prying open the story and then designing characters as the story comes together. like, sometimes I’ll shove a century of art history discourse into something, other times it’s Actor Hot, Show Rearranged The Circuits In My Brain, etc. but at the end of the day, I want it to work with the story, so I do these things side by side.

if you want more solid advice than this nebulous mess of thoughts, interviews with costume designers for movies or shows you enjoy is always always always a fantastic place to go to if you really want to understand how clothing and form convey intent and narrative to an audience: I keep a lot of that kind of theory in the back of my mind when I start seriously figuring out what I want a character to do, and by extension, how to look. interviews with animators and comic artists are good places to learn abt character design too!

here is a collection of unorganized thoughts i had about the ian interview with anthony in relation to dnp’s working relationship

smosh talking about being best friends who ended up being business partners and then roommates and how bad it was and how they were passive aggressive with each other because they couldn’t fight bc they had to be best friends for youtube

at first i immediately got sad hearing it but also i do think there’s a slight difference in how smosh interacted, especially them saying they never ever talked about feelings or emotions and their relationship was always surface level anyway

as opposed to dnp who’s dynamic/relationship is inherently more emotion based and vulnerable so talking about what’s upsetting them is going to come more naturally when it comes to the business side

but obviously that kind of relationship in any context is going to be INTENSE and hard to maintain when your lives are that intertwined

anthony talking about growing up individually and then feeling like they had to regress back into their 17 year old selves when they did hang out (“all we did when we hung out was play mario kart and talk about what we were doing”)

also something that made me slightly sad for a second, especially remembering dan’s whole thing about phil pulling him back and the jokes about regressing bc he’s back on youtube blah blah blah it’s not refined or representative of his growth (which i hope he’s dealing with that whole mindset please dear god)

but also dnp have grown individually and as a duo and i think they’ve given each other the space to do so while also having the front row seat to that growth that smosh didn’t?

them saying the new content is NOT going to be nostalgia base and they’re not going to revert back to their old personas is actually really interesting and i wonder what that’s going to look like.

it makes me think about how dan and phil would approach consistent joint content again pcou, especially given the ~vibe~ of the last few videos together (mostly thinking about the 2022 texting video that felt...off a bit? which is so rare for dnp). it’s gotta be hard to not slip back into those old roles especially when being on camera together again is still novel

ian and anthony talking about how the audience shaped their friendship in their peak and how they tried to play into the characters the fans made for them and it caused resentment/ anthony said being the ‘hot one’ and ian being the ‘funny one’ upset him a lot because it made him question his value. i find that whole section fascinating because i think that’s one thing dnp held onto? like they didn’t let the audience decide their dynamic or personalities

but dnp also had the added element of more intimate outlets like liveshows where we got to see natural dynamics or even gaming channel stuff while smosh only really did scripted sketch stuff, so the audience got to see a more well rounded version of dnp and not just like....TATINOF stage personas

also and idk how to say this articulately....dnp also were actively hiding a part of themselves and working against audience perspective so they’re less susceptible to succumb to being their personas off camera with each other (especially going back to the first point of their relationship being more complex emotionally than the 2 cishet dudes who said they didn’t share feelings for the first 20 years of their friendship)

smosh talking about their work styles and creative processes and how they mesh well together which i would LOVE to hear more about that from dnp in how they come up with ideas or the details of their process together ESPECIALLY now

tbh i was never a smosh fan for a variety of reasons and i’ve never been fond of anthony but i appreciate what smosh meant to a lot of people and how big of a win this is for youtube creators in general. it is interesting to hear them talk about this new era and how excited they are for the future of the channel

maybe other people will have a chat about what a revamped version of a beloved channel that was also a fun project for them could look like, especially without the pressure of making money off of it

please dnp i will buy yet another fucking channel membership off you

I low-key don't want to say it but: Leona. I despise him for how pretty this mf is. But only hip upwards - I do not tolerate this slutting around that's happening below his ankles. Put 'em grippers away, Leona.

The Tweels! I *love* their design, their subtle differences, the eye shapes, the eye colors, their general color palette - It's perfection! Though, their haircut is.. idk, I feel like it could've been chosen better and worse at the same time.

And I gotta mention Sam (specifically the JP version!) and Crewel. Their style, their aesthetic - It's just so damn good! I really hope we get to see them, for some reason, as teens.

Extra: I would say Vil but at the same time I wouldn't. The hair just isn't really *Vil* imo. Make it just a little longer and it would be perfection. I do adore every fanart version of Vil though, their artstyles work so well with that haircut. And I might get hated for that but I dislike his make up *so* much. He's using so much all the time but he would improve his looks by the more subtle makeup. Use it to outline your natural beauty, not paint over it, darling.

Extra 2: Riddles Overblot. By far my most favorite OB design, it's just so damn beautiful.

Worst designs (I am mainly referring to their haircuts in here):

Kalim. Boy, you look so horrendously bad without your hair band thingy. Everyone's talking about Rooks stale ass wig but bro, take away Kalims hair accessories and- Oh boy. Just a "nuh uh" for me.

Then we have Malleus: What IS that, bro? The rat tails are just SO not it. I despise rat tails to begin with and now TWO of them?? Malleus, please, for the life of my eyes: Either choose long hair lile Jamil OR go with smth short - Don't do both. Fucking hell. Or IF you wanna do a mullet, get inspired by Jack. That one is still acceptable.

Crowley. Get your feathered ass out here. Yk who this mf look like low-key? Look:

AND EVEN THIS BASTARD CAN WEAR IT BETTER.

Everyone else is somewhere in the middle tbh. Yes, even Rook because I actually quite like the hair - The only issue is that gravity exists and we only ever get to see his hair without ANY movement which makes it look *really* not so good. I mean, look at the animated trailers we got. He looks good.

But there's one person that I can not put on the list AT ALL:

Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker - Or in short: Chenya.

My boy, I adore you from the bottom of my heart but what are those bangs? From your toes up to your neck, you're gorgeous but then.. After seeing this guy without ears, I realized just how BAD it actually is.

technically part of the last ask but I didn't want to bring down the Joke Tone, even though this is still said fun and lightheartedly ->

(Jokes aside, when a single person is complaining all of that it doesn't show his legs, doesn't give him the same silhouette as default skin, doesn't emphasize his torso or proportions in exactly the same way as his default skin, they don't like the type of boots and think it should look more like his other boots, not blue enough, uses Sumeru elements instead of an exclusively Khaenri'ah or Monstadt design... I can't take it seriously, because it sure sounds like they just want his default skin, maybe in a slightly edgier color palette. Or want to have a ✨ new skin for their fav ✨, but don't want him to look any different at all.

And of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but soo many of these people state it like these are OBJECTIVE FACTS that are OBJECTIVELY BAD traits and mistakes bc they personally don't like the design choice. When they can just use the default skin if they're upset it diverges from it 😅. Though I don't want anyone to be disappointed and it's too bad they didn't get what they want, that's... how new content works. Preferences exist, I'm afraid, and I for one am incredibly pleased!)

Anyways I think all the complaints that hinge on his legs etc are very silly bc you can switch skins and look at his sliver of boob whenever you want.

I can see why they would prefer a more Khaenri'ahn-only theme, but I think HYV is really hitting on the hints that Kaeya has Sumeru blood in him (and I still want a 5-star kaeya someday that goes all out on the Khaenri'ahn wardrobe hehe let me be delulu)

I will say that Khaenri'ahn clothing so far is very modest. Bodies are fully covered from the neck to feet, usually with loose tunics. Dainsleif just has a fitted top that lets him show the shape of his upper body. These people wouldn't enjoy the idea of a traditional Khaenri'ahn outfit on Kaeya as well if what they're after is seeing more of Kaeya's body now that I think about it...

I think Kaeya enjoys being a little extra on what he wears, like adding accessories and using various types of fabric on one outfit. If I were him and had 2 different nations with large cultural differences in style, I think I'd pick the more extravagant one too lmao (the nation of freedom told him its ok 💅✨️)

as for the complaint on the pants and lack of boobie window, well, the disappointment is fine tbh, people still have preferences, and being let down by what will be released is understandable because it does not fit their tastes. It's the way they (imo) over-reacted that made it really funny to me. I've seen some say it's not well-thought-out (despite the details and references) and is just a ploy to pull players back to genshin (it worked lol. good for hyv for knowing what sells).

I guess I don't see the need to justify what you don't like, especially if it leads to weird arguments and reasoning?

A simple "it doesn't fit my fantasies/tastes" would suffice, i think

At the end of the day, the outfit is supposed to look different from the usual attire, and it successfully did so and went beyond my personal expectations!

Okay you know what I was never clear on this in the anime either: Kurama and Yusuke both “gave up half their lives” but there never seem to be any consequences to this? Even though it sounds like it should have consequences? Like usually when someone phrases it like that, they mean in terms of “How old you get to be.”

I always just mentally handwaved it as “Well they clearly meant life energy, I guess”

Still I’ve always been unsatisfied with the fact that they didn’t clarify that

The Conjuring Blade. Hmm that’s not great either. Like I know they’re limited by the need to roughly match lip movements in the dub, but still

“The blade grants the user their desired ability” was actually a very clever rewrite, though

Koenma is also significantly less pigeonholed as comedic relief here, while still getting to give him some of that lightness and Way Less Worried Than the Heroes Would Like Him to Be thing, and it’s working pretty well for me actually

Impressed with this take on adapting him tbh

He’s so not serious in the anime, but like in the show you WANT him to come off as a lot more mature since he is. you know. not being played by a literal baby

Wait a minute Koenma’s lines must ALL done by ADR in the original. Right?? Because otherwise how clearly would the actor even be able to talk with that thing in his mouth the whole time?

Esp since it and his lips move very little

Okay Hiei’s silhouette does look pretty good from the side, though

There’s just too much white on his outfit for me, it’s too much

Like for the others, the show really directly adopted their Main Look

Whereas Hiei looks halfway between his main look (cloak and scarf) and one of this Dark Tournament looks (when he takes off the cloak; mostly tank tops iirc)

The bandaging on his head is both too wide and nowhere clearly enough bandaging. At first I thought he was just wearing a bafflingly uneven headband.

Or, at least, they should have committed more clearly to EITHER bandaging OR a headband, not tried to merge them

Wait it IS just a bafflingly thick and uneven headband. Why. It looks like he hand-tore something out of white leather, almost???

Like presumably it’s just cloth but it’s SO stiff

Okay they are doing a really good job of adopting the superspeed fighting. Much better than the “only speedsters can melee fight other speedsters successfully” or like “The Flash (TV)-style” fighting that I’m used to seeing

Because obviously it can be hard to film “superspeed opponent vs. non-superspeed opponent” effectively, but they did a pretty good job I think

They’re really doing a good job of stylizing it

See this is why American live action adaptations of anime always fail horribly even for super popular series imho

Until One Piece, actually, I think

Because US studios have no idea how to effectively visually stylize a huge number of anime tropes and mainstays and archetypes

Saw a quote where one of the directors(?) on the project was saying that he’s really glad it was a Japanese adaptation because they know how to translate it into live action and stylize it effectively, and THEY’RE RIGHT

Seriously some of the shots in these fights, esp Yusuke vs. Goki, look like they could literally be straight out of the anime. Like I can see in my head EXACTLY how it would be drawn and shot and animated. Love it. Love the love for anime as a style/art form here

I could not have imagined they’d do the muscle bulging that literally. It really speaks to how far visual effects for body alteration have come in the past decade or so

They’re mostly being pretty successful with using angles to make this work surprisingly well

God everything about the rich bad guys at the dark tournament was always so confusing to me. I could never tell them apart except for Sakyo. Everything about this version of the plotline is so much clearer. Thank you highly distinct visual styles!

Anyway using Tarukane’s introduction to Sakyo’s Whole Thing/the Dark Tournament to explain it to the viewers was a good move done p effectively. Also Tarukane’s suit is so extra and I love it

Hmm the shrinking effect on Elder Toguro is. Less effective. I think they overcommitted. Should’ve leaned more into the skinniness than the shortness, imho

All the effects on Elder Toguro in front of the helicopter are just. Oof. Absolute garbage. They Did Not stick the landing on this one, folks.

Seriously they should’ve let him be taller and just made the actor do some kind of unsettling posture that makes his head come up less far all the time or whatever

Listen I have friends who are under 5 feet. None of them look even a little bit like that. That’s just not what humans look like at that size.

Also why is his hair straight. He and Sakyo need to switch hair textures

Okay up-close effets on him get better as soon as he’s twisting to actually kill someone. Why don’t they just have him look like that the whole time?

Karasu and Bui look great though

Genkai looks okay but she doesn’t sound like a lifelong chainsmoker and that makes me sad, on a personal level

Also kinda sad that she looks like she’s like 50, not 70. And she’s not mean enough!! Tragic

Okay her jumping on Yusuke’s chest while he’s down is also good. Excellent. I snorted, perfectly in character. She should sstill sound like she spent her youth gargling rocks tho

Yusuke, on the other hand, looks FANTASTIC as they’re arguing. They nailed it with his posture, his hair, his sullen complaining, amazing

HE’S GETTING THE SPIRIT WAVE ORB IN EPISODE THREE???? Come on, this is COMPLETELY unearned, I get that they’re trying to somehow do seasons 1 AND 2 in just five episodes but they literally should not have included this

Genkai still isn’t mean enough. Just watched a clip of the anime to clear my palette and she literally tells him, “Shut up, you condescending jackass.” This Genkai seems like she would never and I have a huge problem with that!!

Spirit wave orb is just handled so badly. I’m mentally rewriting it as an entirely different type of power boost. This is easy to do, because passing it over in the drama is super easy and immediate and with no consequences, meanwhile in the anime it’s like a 3 episode arc to transfer it where both Yusuke and iirc Genkai are in danger of like. Fucking dying!!! Anime Yusuke: Literal days of pain and writhing in a cave. Live Action Yusuke: Standing there. It takes 2 seconds.

I do really like the shots of Genkai inside right after Yusuke leaves. Gorgeous shots and lighting, and I like that we at least get to see a photo of Young Genkai!

At least Toguro showing up to go after her literally the same night makes getting the orb out of there (out of her) feel more justified, ig

Okay actually I’m liking the Genkai & Toguro scene a lot. I buy that actor as Genkai a Lot more in this scene too

“Well, you haven’t changed, have you? You still care about fighting…and nothing else at all.” Great line and great delivery. Tbh does a more convincing job of laying out while Younger Toguro is doing All This than the did

They better fucking not kill Genkai though. I mean, I can’t imagine why they would, since Toguro also goes after her in the anime/manga and she makes it. But it bears repeating that they’re absolutely not allowed to!

I really like that we keep seeing Keiko actually working at her family’s shop. Gives her a lot more dimensionality and sense of having her own life/stuff going on than she sometimes has in the anime

ELDER TOGURO IS FRAMING HIEI actually that’s a really smart way to do it, I was WONDERING how they were about to justify the kidnapping since Hiei isn’t trying to take over the world anymore

Also, super cool job with the effects on the reveal tbh

Hiei and Kuwabara animosity on first sight: done perfectly, I laughed out loud (literally)

They’re really lucky Kurama was there tbh. I also love that Hiei totally could’ve stopped the fight to clarify what the hell was going on after “Who the hell is Keiko?” but he had zero interest in doing so. “This guy doesn’t believe me? Why argue when I could fight.”

as promised, here's a big sketch dump of my sona/oc nim! this isn't gonna be a popular post and I don't care 👍

I didn't originally intend to post these so I've referenced some art works heavily but I've written the name of the artist and I'll type it out too! if any of the artists see my references and is uncomfortable with it please let me know and I'll remove it from this post :D

the first ideas for his "modern design" (he's been around and recycled for a loooong time). the pose in the top right hand corner is taken from @/hiraethminds! they are a very cool artist and inspire me a lot. though the grey-ish tones as the major colour goes away I still really like the centipede tattoo, centipedes are rad as fuck and you can't tell me otherwise

I started to play with the idea of a goat design for him here! which is strange because like. that's not even his main design or motif or anything, I just really liked the idea I guess LMAO also Aurelai belongs to my mate of the same name! she's not on tumblr (yet) but you should still like her because she's cool and awesome

a treat for my qsmp enjoyers!! an unfinished short comic I sketched on the day tallulah lost her first life. the other characters in this are my old ocs, don't even worry about them

I straight up just have the image that inspired me in this one. its by @/sss-eriema and it was a gift from GOD. I was trying to sort out the colours and wanted to incorporate both orange (my favourite colour) and green (my close second favourite colour) but wasn't having much luck. eriema's artwork showed me that it can work in a more muted way and it was very very helpful!!

I started to get the colours down in the bottom right corner!! I really like this sketch page honestly. some bonus self portrait sketches because I wanted to try and put some more of my own features into his design as my sona! also in the notes I was debating between the two eye shapes and I'm still thinking about it. I think the bottom ones fit his personality more and are way more expressive but I just like the Vibe of the top ones

a lot of little drawings with varying styles! also more slimecicle. I am adhding so hard for him right now, it's concerning.

t. this one is the reason for the blood tw in the tags. I just really like drawing blood. as a treat. don't come for me this is my self-indulgent safe space leT ME BE EDGY </3 also the writing is a little hard to read so I've put it in the alt! and more qsmp doodles!

I'm starting to ditch the goat design but this one is my last hurrah. basically settled on the general colour scheme now! and more qsmp stuff. its literally gripped my brain I can't escape it, even in my personal work

then I realised. nimbus-BUGS. bugs! what if bug? this was a really fun study for using more creature features that I wasn't used to! loving the mandibles tbh

my most recent sketch as of posting! I might update this later, but this sketch page is probably the most gratuitously referenced, the expressions in the bottom left and top right were basically ripped from @/microwavablesquid so if you like those please check them out! the basic design structure of the full body was referenced from @/aresonist, retroactively I realised a lot of my design choices. uh. they also made LMAOOO so if my design in General tickles your brain, follow them!

as for his lore and basic information for what he actually Is, uhhh. ??? I don't know HAHAHA he's a little guy! he's creature! is he human? probably not but no one could say for sure! is he bugs? is he 1000 bugs in a trenchcoat? sometimes he's goat I guess??? I can never decide on a design and I think that aids his cryptid-like habits. he shows up sometimes, vibes and can't die in a way that matters! he has a running motif of my fake-God-thing, the centipede ouroboros, so I was like "what if he was a harbinger of the ouroboros, what then." and I like to imagine he has video game logic where when he dies, he basically respawns. also weirdly it's worked out in a way where he has lots of biblical motifs, like my name is literally nimbus, like the halo, and he's a messenger of a god like some fucked up blorbo angel. also lily of the valley is my favourite flower and I like drawing him with it, it also has lots of symbolism in the bible?? wild.

I sincerely doubt it but if you guys have any questions about nim or want to draw him or anything I would Die. I would just keel over. you'd take me out.

I swear to god everyone says that my art style reeks of MLP influence even though it's hardly ever on my mind when I'm not drawing ponies for the lols. Cannot escape pony hell I guess

Chunky sweaters! Or anything with loose baggy folds! It's so much fun to play with shape or decide which parts are more baggy and which are more fitted

Honestly, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I know some people have pointed out different sources, but there isn't any one big piece of media that my has been compared to which I'm completely ambivalent to.

26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation than what you intended?

Tbh this happens a lot in art school, especially because I'm not one to give deep meanings to my own work and focus more on aesthetics and visual easter eggs. I think the most infamous moment of people seeing shit I didn’t intend was when a classmate said that some horror inspired art I made had vaginal imagery in it. That was.... something.

Lemme know if he had merrit, but it was a really embarrassing moment during crit.

30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated?

My Miku art from her birthday last year. There are no sales on her mini print and under 50 notes on tumblr. But I love the pose I drew her in, and it was my phone background for about 8 months

i’m not sure exactly what was wrong here but for me i think it’s just…super perfectly straight across bangs(? if u can call it that?). of course he was a microscopic baby here so i guess that’s just how it is

tbh my main issue with this is the facial hair, the Hair Hair is fine………but i have no idea what the goal was with like...i’m not even sure what to call that style of facial hair? whatever i’m just glad it didn’t last

okay tbh that’s all i have to make negative comments about lmaooo

good wonderful superb commendable hair (in no particular order):

more infant vibes but this time the hair is greatly improved. these are some extra fluffy curls. good work baby jeffrey (tbh this is just SUCH a good photo in general. like where would i even begin)

perhaps the most ideal amount of fluff AND with a nice angelic glow
