i think the fastest and most effective prayer to any God in an emergency is just "[insert name], please help me". specifics are good in like, formal situations, but let me tell you: i parked my car in mud which froze overnight (temps in my area dropped from 50 degrees fahrenheit down to about 10 degrees with windchill), and after trying for almost a full hour to get my car unstuck from the mud, i just stared vacantly to the sky and said "Hermes, please help." and wouldn't you know it, about three minutes later my car's wheels somehow managed to gain traction and the frozen mud around them loosened enough to actually allow me to back out.
i have more thoughts on this whole (very good) incident namely involving a tiktok by olympianbutch on invocations (not tagging him because i'm not writing that essay yet), the power of the names of the Gods, and how the Gods are very, very, very good. but it's almost 3am and my brain is potatoes, so we'll post that all some other time :)
for now, i'll give a simple thank You Hermes for getting me unstuck from the mud <3

Ares isn't just violence.
To me, Ares is energy. He's courage and He's determination. He motivates us to push through when we feel like we can't. He is the voice in our head which tells us to keep going. He's strength and He's perseverance, He's warmth and support.
When you fight for what's right, He's standing right there beside you. He pushes us to be the best, to achieve greatness, but He won't let us break. He's the older brother who watches you struggle so you learn and get stronger, but He still loves you and wants the best for you.
He's kind and He's gentle and there's so much to Him that I could never put in words. So don't write Him off because's He's the God of War.
I just love Him. so so so so so much. And I wanted to share that because I think He's pretty neat<3

For the first time in a while, I prayed to a few deities I haven't spoken to in quite some time. I asked them to assist in having a good time with a brand new friend. The conversations that followed with that friend were life-changing. I realized how much I had been ignoring myself and my own well-being. I realized how fucked up certain situations I had gone through recently truly were. I realized how low I had made my own standards when it came to making and keeping friends. I realized how desperately I needed someone to listen to my recent traumas and validate my experiences, instead of immediately putting me down. I want to humbly thank Aphrodite and Dionysus for the time I had with that friend. I believe that they helped contribute to the genuinely life-changing experience that I had.
I say this all to emphasize that having good, strong relationships with deities doesn't mean giving them offerings every single day, saying prayers every time you get the chance, or going out of your way to do things for them at the cost of your own well-being. Having a solid relationship with deities doesn't look like receiving some immense spiritual sign every single time they reach out to you, hearing their voices speak from the heights of the heavens (or the depths of the underworld) as clearly as one breathes air, or being able to perfectly interpret every type of divination you receive from them.
You don't need to have some profound experience to know that your deities are there, supporting you through some of your toughest battles. Sometimes the divine express themselves in ways that are as mundane and average as seeing a butterfly outside your window or finally feeling motivated to take care of your physical needs.
Something wild and extraordinary isn't going to happen every twenty seconds while you're worshipping a deity. That's simply not how life works, but that also doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. That doesn't make your relationships any less valuable or important. That doesn't invalidate the more mundane experiences you've had with your deities. It's ok that you don't have something "interesting" happening every five minutes. You don't need to. You don't have to.
All that truly matters is that you feel happy, that you feel content within your worship. Make sure your relationships with your deities feel like a safe place for you because if they don't, maybe something needs to change.

Artemis-Diana as a goddess of transitions my beloved...
From seed to sprout
From womb to birth
From childhood to adulthood
From 'singlehood' to marriage
From youth to old age
From sickness to healing
From twilight to dusk
From dusk to dawn
From full moon to new moon
From death to life
From life to death
She is the boots-on-the-ground pair of hands that leads us, sometimes kicking and screaming, with all the gentleness of a lioness taking her cub by the scuff of its neck.
She is my life-death-rebirth deity in the most primal way. She's the guardian of the gate and the door. She teaches us to look at ourselves and our lives and put it all in context, and she ensures that we are never alone while we do it.
There's just something about her being goddess of the hunt (death for the sake of survival) and birth at the same time...
Sometimes being her devotee feels like looking at my own failing body and inevitable death square in the eye and learning how not to look away, because she'll bear witness with me. That's who she is. That's what she does.
Because a mother will always be a mother, no matter what form her children take.

A Modern Festival For Psyche - Festival of Butterflies
Tumblr media
This is very inspired by the festival for Psyche that @starry-polytheism created for April. Though it's almost opposite, different sides of the same coin, if you will. Since their festival is more based around the transition from fall to winter as they're in the southern hemisphere. As I'm in the northern hemisphere I wanted to make this more focused on the transition from winter to spring.
Psyche is not necessarily a goddess of spring but a lot of her symbolism is very spring-related. Especially her biggest and most known symbol, butterflies. So having a festival and time to celebrate in spring felt fitting. To me, she is a goddess of transformation and hope and that's what I want the focus of this festival to be. Transformation of yourself and the transformation and hope for the upcoming spring. I will also be bringing Eros into this festival as they are married and closely intertwined for me and my worship. I like to honor him as much as I can.
Ideally, this would take place on the spring equinox but because I've been struggling a bit and just now writing this I will not personally be celebrating on that day. Most likely this upcoming weekend since that's when I have the time.
Tumblr media
This will be a two-day festival. Day one is focused on the transformation aspect. Preparing to bring in the new and to celebrate. The focus is on cleaning your space and doing self-care acts in the name and honor of Lady Psyche. Everyone has different levels of spoons so this can be as much or as little as you want. I'm confident she will enjoy and appreciate any of it!
Ideas for day one of the festival
Clean your space spiritually by lighting incense.
Clean your home (as much or as little as you can or want. Even just cleaning your room or altar space or even one section of any room is perfect.)
Listen to a playlist you've made for Psyche while cleaning
Bake to enjoy for day two of the festival.
Journal things you're grateful for in your current season and/or things you're looking forward to in spring.
Journal about how you've grown and changed through the last few months and how Psyche or Eros have helped you with that.
Gather things to donate to those in need.
Perform self-care acts for and in Lady's Psyche name (taking an intentional shower/bath, brushing your teeth with intention, etc.)
Day two focuses on the hope and joy the new season can bring. It's all about celebrating and doing things that bring you joy to honor Psyche. As Eros is the god of passion and love I feel like he can be especially involved in this day.
Ideas for day two of the festival
If the weather permits enjoy nature coming back to life around you. Go for a walk in nature or simply sit outside on your porch/yard.
Bring Psyche in while you spend time on a favorite hobby (coloring, art, reading, knitting, etc.)
Have a dancing and singing session.
Offer a yummy baked good or candy you think Psyche and Eros would enjoy.
Prepare and enjoy a good meal for the two.
Rest in any way you need or see fit.
Literally, anything that makes you happy and brings you joy.
Tumblr media
I have never attempted to make a festival so I'm not sure if any of this makes much sense but I'll take any chance to celebrate my beautiful deities any extra amount. If you think something would be better or you have anything to add to what I've written, please feel free to share!
Feel free to do as much or as little of what's in this post, or adapt it any way that would better fit your practice. If you don't have two days for a festival split the day in two or split whatever time you have to celebrate to focus on the two aspects of the festival. As I mentioned before, Psyche and Eros will enjoy any thought put into this, no matter how small it feels.

i’m finally starting to understand what religion really is about for me. after months and even years of being lost, not knowing what to do and being jealous of christianity and organized religions for, well, being organized, and doing absolutely nothing about it, i’m finally starting to research hellenic prayer and *actually* praying to my deities and it feels *so* good. rambling over.

The names of the Gods
I vaguely promised an essay on my thoughts on the names of the Gods about a week ago or so, and thus I shall deliver :)
A few months ago when I was scrolling on TikTok (as one does), I came across a video by @olympianbutch talking about invocations in traditional Hellenic Polytheist prayers. The whole video was good, so I'll link the video (for the invocation): [here], and you can watch it all for yourselves. (And you should watch the two videos before it, they were equally good and educational). In it, he explained why we start prayers by saying the Gods' names: "This is because the ancient Greeks believed that when you said a God's name, They went: [insert action of dramatically turning around here]." Now, this was definitely funny, but once the full implications of that statement sunk in, it permanently changed how I viewed my own praying (in a good way, of course, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this thing based off of the video).
Now, the idea that your speech can call a God to you is something incredibly amazing, incredibly beautiful, and incredibly powerful. It means that the very second you state Their name, They can see your whole situation, and respond accordingly. I think this is something good to keep in mind, especially as the influence of 2020 witchtok/pagantok fades out (I was deep in this back then, so I'm speaking from that perspective [at some point in the future I'm doing a ramble on this as well, and how it impacted my early worship + relationships with the Gods {no hate if you were there too, I think it lowkey sucked for all of us}]). I used to feel really nervous that I didn't have a Real Connection with the Gods because I wasn't constantly hearing Their voices in my head, or having some kind of miraculous encounter with Them on a daily basis, and I used to base a lot of the idea of a "successful prayer life" around those encounters. However, since hearing of the concept of the Gods seeing you when their names are called, I've found my worries about that trickling away. When I pray, whichever God I'm praying to is there, and I can simply revel in the knowledge that I am standing (or sitting, or kneeling) in the presence of the God(s). The Gods are ever-present to begin with, but by calling upon Them in prayer, I am able to be face-to-face with Them in a more meaningful way, even if it's not something immediately sensible.
Beyond my prayer life, I've also found myself a lot more thoughtful about when I say the Gods' names. For deities that I worship frequently like Hermes or Dionysos, I'll be a bit more lax. I'll call upon Them for little things, like seeing a little crystal phallus in a metaphysical shop, or praying for safe travels. For deities that I once worshiped closely, like Artemis, I'll call upon Her in praise of the beauty of nature, especially if it's getting Real Beautiful or Real Cool. And even for deities that I rarely worship except on feasts, like Zeus, I'll call upon Him in praise of good things that fall under His domain, as a "I know it was You doing this!" kind of thing.
Anyways, this ended up a bit more rambly than I initially intended it to be, but I hope that somewhere within this ADHD-addled writing there was something of substance that's useful to you in your practice :) The Gods are always there, something something, always good, something something, I love Them.

I kinda wanted to talk a bit about how calming the sea is, how nice it is to listen to the soundscapes of it when you're feeling uneasy. How beautiful the landscape, the colours and the sounds are. How everything fits together so perfectly, like two puzzle pieces.
But also, it's important to remember it can be scary. How the water isn't to be underestimated, that, yes, it gives life but it can also take them away as easily.
And with this post I'd also like to urge you to watch over your close ones who go to swim or play in the sea. It's summer holidays and I'm, once again, hearing about so many fatal tragedies at the beach.
Please, stay aware and stay safe!

Oh beloved son of Diwia Agêtôr, older than the soil One with and without guile God with the golden sickle Breather of life and bestower of death
Ruler of the Dipsioi, those you join as Deilakrion You know their weight of memories and forgetfulness, of their hunger and thirst as they feast upon the earth
Marineus, another name I also call you While you dance among the trees As you find joy lying on the grass Creating gifts without harm from beast to man A reveler in animals and people alike
Dear Araios, with horns divine God of rams and sheep Potnios Theron, relishing in his favorite company Among the infinite creatures who flock to him
Trisheros, the hero that sees three ways The one connected to the respect and honoring of the dead Deity holding the many mysteries between truth and lies Akakêsios, without pain, will always take every hand God that sees and feels human emotion, Agônios He will dry every tear and give all calm and serenity
Kharidôtês, God of touch, the nerves, feeling, and pleasure The one all delight in and yearn for The one sung highly by the Kharites and Aphrodite alike Hearts cry merrily with you, never a bitter soul around you
Most ancient god with an appearance and heart of youth As this body struggles, as my knees go weak and my energy drains As love stirs again in me no matter the time of the absence of feeling Set me right while I rest in the palm of your hand With the utmost love, you cup my cheek With a kiss, with a ghosting stroke, I gain vitality

I dozed off while reading a book about Aphrodite and was woken up by the sound of a mourning dove cooing right outside the window I was by. I ended up getting the urge to bake some apples, so my wife and I made an apple crisp from scratch. The house smells amazing, our girlfriend has apple scraps to add to her gardening compost, and we have a yummy treat. Aphrodite reminds me to smile today.
