I’ve mentioned this elsewhere but it feels relevant again in light of the most recent episode. Something that’s really fascinating to me about Orym’s grief in comparison to the rest of the hells’ grief is that his is the youngest/most fresh and because of that tends to be the most volatile when it is triggered (aside from FCG, who was two and obviously The Most volatile when triggered.)
As in: prior to the attack on Zephrah, Orym was leading a normal, happy, casual life! with family who loved him and still do! Grief was something that was inflicted upon him via Ludinus’ machinations, whereas with characters like Imogen or Ashton, grief has been the background tapestry of their entire lives. And I think that shows in how the rest of them are largely able to, if not see past completely (Imogen/Laudna/Chetney) then at least temper/direct their vitriol or grief (Ashton/Fearne/Chetney again) to where it is most effective. (There is a glaring reason, for example, that Imogen scolded Orym for the way he reacted to Liliana and not Ashton. Because Ashton’s anger was directed in a way that was ultimately protective of Imogen—most effective—and Orym’s was founded solely in his personal grief.)
He wants Imogen to have her mom and he wants Lilliana to be salvageable for Imogen because he loves Imogen. But his love for the people in his present actively and consistently tend to conflict with the love he has for the people in his past. They are in a constant battle and Orym—he cannot fathom losing either of them.
(Or, to that point, recognize that allowing empathy to take root in him for the enemy isn't losing one of them.)
It is deeply poignant, then, that Orym’s grief is symbolized by both a sword and shield. It is something he wields as a blade when he feels his philosophy being threatened by certain conversational threads (as he believes it is one of the only things he has left of Will and Derrig, and is therefore desperately clinging onto with both bloody hands even if it makes him, occasionally, a hypocrite), but also something he can use in defense of the people he presently loves—if that provocative, blade-grief side of him does not push them—or himself—away first.
(it won’t—he is as loved by the hells as he loves them. he just needs to—as laudna so beautifully said—say and hear it more often.)
Wally is set up as a sort of "main character" by the whrp. he's said in the site's description of the show to have introduced the main theme/lesson of the day's episode, and then the rest of the neighbors join him on his escapades. but then we have our first glimpses of everyone's actual dynamics and characters through the audios and you look at Wally and its like
first of all, thats an npc. second, nearly everybody else has severe main character syndrome
but its fascinating how Wally is just kind of... There. he doesnt talk much. he doesnt contribute beyond a couple of lines. its more like he joins the others on their shenanigans. he fades into the background. he's off to the side while everyone else holds conversations & leads the moment
Wally, despite being described as Thee character, is borderline background.
& whats even more interesting, within his individual secret audio files and interactions - he's almost chatty. not only that but the way he talks is more confident and faster paced. he's taking initiative. he can be kinda pushy. when talking to the qa/whrp/Us, he acts more like the character his descriptions portray. he acts more like a person instead of a puppet waiting for his next cue
I cant tell if - when around the neighbors - his tepid milk behavior is a purposeful act or if he's masking. and if he's masking, is it deliberate or involuntary? and in regards to both, why is he acting so different? It could be tied to what he's trying to accomplish. if he's trying to "restore" Welcome Home, it would make sense for him to act as he does around the neighbors - he wouldnt want to clue them in that he knows so much more than he's letting on, would he?
but then that begs another train of thought - what if he isn't acting or masking? if there is a time discrepancy between Wally's interactions with the qa/whrp/Us & the more 'official' audios, that could explain the difference in behavior. we could be getting glimpses into "future" (read: current) Wally, who's had much more time to figure himself out since we can safely assume he started out as a blank slate. we could be seeing a more experienced Wally than the one seen with his friends.
of course that line of thinking loses some merit when considering the 14 "bug" audios. or it could lend to it... if we're seeing a more experienced Wally but his friends are only seeing what he allows them to. it's still him, just... a carefully curated version.
in general it could really tie into the themes of identity and change and being other, to me. when you're so different - or you feel so different - that you can't bring yourself to be your most authentic you around your friends. when you feel like you have to hold back and be who you think they expect you to be, or what would be most palatable. most normal. will they accept you as you really are? there's always the fear and terror that the people you consider closest to you won't. or when you're so scared of change that you'll shove down & lock away parts of yourself so that you can keep things as you are. because once they know you've changed, so will they. and really, do you want to even accept that you've changed? what if that's what scares you most of all - that you're different, you've metamorphosized, you can't go back to the way things were because you yourself are no longer the person you were before. there is no reversing this no matter how much you try or pretend
I think that Jason has a stuffed animal that one of his guardians in New Rome have to him when he was a baby. A wolf or a fox or some other dog/cat-like creature - maybe even a stuffed hellhound or something, something that he rediscovers on accident while in the 5th Cohort’s barracks, something that makes him sit down on the floor holding it in his hands and cry, for some reason, something he can’t even remember but he knows was important to him once upon a time.
This will probably be a hot take but I will actually flip my shit if Dragona gets with anyone, especially Usagi. They better stay uninterested in dating till the very end.
I am so mad about how desperately into pan I am. he was specifically made to fuck me up. they dangled him in front of me like 'hey would you like to see a sad clown trickster with emotional intimacy issues and a heart of, if not gold, then some mysterious alloy with qualities not at all unlike those of gold at the end of the day?' and I went 'boy would I!' and now I'm lost. I'm on my knees he's like if reyes vidal was actually redeemable instead of just a 'release my man he did do all of that but I don't care' situation
made a big compilation of Evil Morty and Morty Prime SORTA being friends (along with foreshadowed friendship). im not too keen on how tumblr works so i have no idea if any of this is gonna make sense, but just bare with me. also, for the sake of not typing the same names a billion times, EM = evil morty and MP = morty prime.
first off, just to start, this is a little frame that always stuck with me. EM is the first morty MP has actually met, so of course he’s curious about another version of himself.
and next is the BIGGG video. im not going to force you to watch it, so ill state my thoughts on it first and you can watch if you want to analyze more.
PART ONE aka when EM lead MP to the morty room
- to start, MP is obviously trying to make conversation
- EM is keeping that together cold, calm character probably to both not be forced to elaborate and to control evil rick
- MP states his ideas of rick, showing rebellion unlike other mortys. EM obviously took this to heart, even if he didn’t let MP leave.
- that strange stare EM gives MP
PART TWO aka when EM talks about “sellout mortys” (didn’t add the whole montage)
- EM refers to MP as a “sellout” morty, which is obviously an insult
- however he states he can’t hate him for it due to most mortys being “bred for it”
- gives MP the chance to see his issues with rick more clearly
PART THREE aka when both call rick a liar
- not much to say, just that they’re both in agreement and they jinxed eachother which is like totally a friend thing (im coping)
PART FOUR aka when EM states how MP probably relates to him
- it’s true, MP has been “evil” countless times
- EM puts enough ideas in his head where MP’s relationship with rick truly starts to get more shakey
PART FIVE aka when EM offers MP to come with
- do i even need to explain? he offers to MP that he’ll let him come, completely unmalicious
- even though EM says that second seat was a toilet, he still offered to let him come nonetheless
- MP literally calls EM cool
PART SIX aka when MP “tees up” EM
- once again not much to say, other than EM making snide remarks to rick and MP being curious as always
PART SEVEN aka MP and EM going into the same “fighting room”
- i know it’s realistically what would happen since the two mortys count as one rick in the machine, however they were still paired up so
PART EIGHT aka when EM kills nice rick
- EM could’ve literally killed MP so easily but he didnt
- kills nice rick once he admits he was just going to use the two, once again not a lot to say but EM protecting MP and himself in a way
PART NINE aka “the worst turd is a pizza”
- MP as always attempting to engage in casual conversation with EM
PART TEN aka when MP steps into EM’s portal
- there’s not a whole lot in the beginning, just EM explaining to MP stuff
- EM saying how he “doesn’t care” if MP comes or not
- the portal closing on MP, causing EM to immediately open the portal back up to once again offer to let him join
- morty explaining his dork ass reason, EM letting him come with
- although there’s probably a reason, EM acting like he doesn’t gaf and then opening up the portal 5 seconds later just to let morty enter. istg.
PART ELEVEN aka EM and MP regrouping with rick
- once again EM acting like he doesn’t really care, definitely not letting rick know he gave MP a second chance to come with
PART TWELVE aka “rick’s cheering section”
- EM stating “WE brought ourselves”
- really giving MP those free will points, defending both him and MP
PART THIRTEEN aka MP using a rick prime bot to save evil morty
- i don’t think i need to elaborate much, MP literally saves EM
- does the two fingers salute to EM, probably saying “you can trust me”
PART FOURTEEN aka EM doing a body swap thing
- we really don’t know enough about what EM actually did to figure this out
- it could be that they completely bodyswapped and EM was just in MP’s body now, but then he wouldn’t have his wires
- either way, they swapped shirts, see that in whatever way you want, friendship love, sibling love, bromantic, romantic, whatever way you view their relationship
- EM thanks MP, it’s hard to tell if it’s sarcastic or not because EM is always flat toned
PART FIFTEEN aka EM blows up the omega device
- MP, as usual, trying to engage in casual conversation
- lets EM know about the pretty visual, really trying to connect with him
- EM states “THIS didn’t make us friends”, maybe implying something like “THAT could make us friends” in a future season?
CONCLUSION
im full of cope, im practically losing it, but im so certain they’re trying to handle EM’s and MP’s relationship in a way where they aren’t purely acquaintances. and although MP makes him attempts at friendship more obvious, and EM refuses to act like they’re friends, he has almost as many “friendship” like moments on his own. i really hope we don’t have to wait for another season to pass for EM to appear again, he’s become alot more vital, especially since the main threat that we know of (prime rick) has been eliminated. i know the writers are probably gonna be kinda silly and just make EM the main villain, however these last few episodes have been purely to develop the characters rather than the plot, and EM’s and MP’s relationship has so much potential for something fun. i don’t think something like the freaky mortys theory will happen, however there is a lot of room to wiggle around in and develop their relationship, because it will ultimately develop both MP and EM which is definitely what the writers are wanting to do. anyways feel free to use this video, feel free to reblog with your own thoughts and ideas, these are just mine!!
so when buck in the dream goes to the diaz house and there’s a random family he doesn’t know living there
and then when he gets to chim he asks where eddie and chris are
and chim just gets stone fucking cold and isn’t humoring him anymore, because how fucking dare this random guy bring up eddie
eddie, who died alone, bleeding out in the street after he was shot, without a single member of his team there
eddie, who chim now thinks of the same as kevin, another brother he lost who he couldn’t protect, and now this dude he doesn’t know is pushing him to talk about him
Merlin but Merlin loses it when Arthur dies and instinctively starts a time loop and every time Arthur dies it automatically resets...for angst purposes it could stay tragic..no matter what he does to change the past kilgharra was right. no one can change their destiny nor can they escape it. or by starting this time loop at all he's doing is preventing the rise of the once and future king so by staving off Arthur's death he's actually preventing anyone from ever really living again. a never ending story with one character aware of the narrative but powerless to change it. a puppet with a brain but no autonomy to put it to use. A tragedy of his own making instead the one prophesized
the closest ill ever get to being a pick me girl is the joy that fills me when the chefs at work so clearly favouritise me. like im there nicely cleaned up in my smart-casual uniform just a 20 year old waitress smiling my customer service smile and behind me spawns Scary Dog Privilege 10x in the form of several burly middle-aged chefs at least three of which have criminal records and would all stick a bread knife in someone for bothering me
Warnings: Mentions of monsterfuckers, there isn't any actual monsterfucking though. Just reader being flabbergasted and calling neige out.
Summary: In a world where the monsters are slain by the heros, you did not expect this outcome.
Additional Notes: I was told to write this by tumblr user spadewalker1, so i sighed wistfully into the distance knowing none could hear me, before opening up my notes and begrudgingly wrote this.
Neige found himself in a woods, running for his life. He never expected that the creepy cottage would house a monster. Whom immediately threw itself at him before he could even apologise.
He only just managed to slip out it's grasp with a shriek.
Which leads to now, he can hear the thwumps of a body into trees behind him as he glided across the floor. He could see the trees getting less dense before he was body slammed to the floor.
Looking up through his teary eyes, he saw the monster from the cottage. They were snarling down at him as they held him in place with one hand, claw. He was shaking from fear by this point.
The monster leaned in closer, their breath fanning his face as their grip on him tightens slightly. He probably should be beyond petrified but he couldn't help but feel... flustered. His naturally rosy cheeks turning into a fiery red as his breath caught got in his throat.
The monster reeled back, a look of what the fuck spreading across their face. He had the audacity to look sheepish, flashing a nervous smile with his face still aflame.
They squinted at him before gliding a claw over his chest, clearly a show of how dangerous they truly are. He shivered, excited for some reason.
The monster blinked slowly before groaning.
"Oh great, another monsterfucker." They sighed.
His entire body was set on fire as warmth enveloped his chest, leaving him feeling embarrassed and seduced. They fixed him with a bewildered stare.
"You do know that I could kill you in a heartbeat."They stated, raising their claws threatenly. He swallowed before smiling softly at them, catching them off guard.
"But will you do that?" He inquired with a sweet smile. They stared for a bit before releasing a low, long groan. Grumbling some more as they got off him, picked him up and set him down on his feet. They crossed their arms, huffing angrily.
"You're so weird. I like that in a man." They declared with a halfhearted shrug.
"Oh.." He responded, becoming more bashful as he held his closed fists to his chest like a maiden.
They hummed before wandering off. He panicked slightly thinking they were leaving him behind before they turned to him and gestured for him to follow. He did so with no hesitation, how naive.
The journey to the edge of the forest was peacefully quiet, with him occasionally glancing their way not so discreatley. They were still a bit put off by him though that feeling eased a bit through their walk.
"Here we are. Go home little human." They said, bending down to eye level. His cheeks that finally calmed down became that strawberry red once more. It then dawned on him that he never gave them his name nor got theirs.
"I'm Neige. What's your name?" He asked with his hand stretched out. They huffed in amusement before putting a claw into his hand in a mock handshake, whilst introducing themselves.
In 1997, Metropolis got its own superhero, the first costumed crime fighter in decades, a flying man who would call himself Superman.
Later that same year, the Batman of Gotham first appeared, his methods much more brutal than the Man of Steel’s chipper and friendly demeanour.
A year later, in 1998, Diana of Themiscyra, the Wonder Woman, returned to Man’s World after nearly a century away, having aided the allies in the first World War.
Though the three were from very different worlds, their activities and efforts to make the planet better would usher in what many would call the Silver Age of Heroes!
