JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adrien's amoks!!! Oh my gosh, she didnt notice the wedding rings!
Marinette almost killed Adrien! The entire time their conversation went down Marinette didnt realize that she was holding Adrien at gun point! That changes the entire nature of the situation! Dont tell me that it doesn't, it absolutely does!
Tumblr media
Oh gosh this was so much worse that I thought! I need to further look into this. I was already of the opinion that believing that Gabriel gave Marinette his BLESSING after she basically told him in nice words that she will for the greater good let Adrien, as a then orphan, pay for all of his family's sins and mistakes on a disastrous globally scale is absolute insanity or blatant denial, but THIS???
Tumblr media
look closer:
Tumblr media
You can see Adrien's rings, oh my god...
Gabriel is talking about the day Adrien was born and how happy he made Emilie and him - that he was there little miracle - and Marinette is here not realizing that Gabriel knows exactly that she's ONE word away from making Adrien met his death in a mere second! Even Gabriel and Nathalie still had longer life-spans than the few moments Adrien was at the risk of having left if Gabriel made a wrong move or said the wrong thing!
No wonder Gabriel behaved as well as he did! And no wonder that all of this so quickly became entirely about Adrien while Gabriel kept catching glances at her hand resting on his:
Tumblr media
"And Adrien will be miserable"
How have we gotten so far by now that I'm agreeing with Gabriel's faces here?? Adrien would be DEAD! She's even saying that her powers cant remedy any of this, how is this real?
Bug Noire is currently the threat towards Adrien's entire existence. The episode almost had Marinette kill Adrien/ Chat Noir with his own Miraculous! With PLAGG! Gabriel had to end up playing along to de-escalate the threat that SHE posed to Adrien!
I'm stressed right now!
Girl, take that hand away!
Tumblr media
Thank you...
Oh gosh, this was so much worse than I though. Marinette is absolutely screwed and she doesn't even know why! Don't think for a second that this didn't had consequences via Gabriel's wish! Gabriel's love for his son very much exists and always has and it's by far the worst thing in Adrien's entire life!
Tumblr media
I don't care if you truly think the scale of the wish is nothing but on the smallest dimension of 1:1 just because that's the damn berry explanation Gimmi gave for an easy understanding while obviously being characterized to be annoyed with humanity for how they treat them and how pathetically trivial the things are for Gimmi the humans wished for in the past, and the ending didnt immediately present you with the grand answer of how every chain reaction worked.
It's a reality changing wish after 5 seasons of built-up from the one damn person the show explained to you in ever way possible that it would be an world ending catastrophe if he got his wish!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there is one bastard who didn't use Gimmi for something small and noble its the fucking MAIN VILLAIN before he dies and the hero almost killed their child who is the hero's love interest!
Come ON people!

This is in response to some arguments in defense of the finale I've seen recently, and if you do believe these, then more power to you! But I disagree, and I'm gonna talk about why.
Rant under the cut. Fair warning, this gets pretty salty.
So I've seen a lot of arguments about how it just wouldn't be possible to have Adrien in the final battle, whether it be because it would be too traumatic for him and we can't explore that in the middle of a fight, or because it would take away focus from Marinette and she would be irrelevant ultimately. And I actually agree!
But what could possibly be done to resolve this? Oh, I know! Fucking write better.
If you were going to put Adrien in the position of being central to the story and write him out with the excuse that he can't live up to that role for various reasons, then why did you write him in that role? It's obvious to anyone that if Gabriel is Adrien's father, then the emotional weight of the conflict would be centered on him and not Marinette. Then why did you still write that into the show? If you wanted to focus on Marinette over Adrien anyway, then why did you make Gabriel be Hawkmoth? Let some other rando be Hawkmoth! And now there's no value to Gabriel being the villain beyond giving Marinette some material for her grand speech (which didn't do shit cause she still lost).
And if you were going to say that Adrien was too traumatized to be in the battle or that he wouldn't be able to deal with it well or that we couldn't see that... write around it? Have him deal with it before, or something, I don't know! Maybe give him that sweet sweet character development? Maybe let the friends who are supposed to support him actually do that? Idk man, this is all coming across as a bunch of excuses to me.
The thing is, this is a kids show. It's not real. The writers control everything that happens. It's not about "realism," it's about narrative payoff. It's about the most satisfying outcome. It's about character arcs. If Adrien was never supposed to face his father in a fight, then why make him a superhero? Could have just let him be Adrien the teen model love interest while Marinette is the superhero. Why give him powers which thematically represent him breaking free from his oppressive life and an enmity with his own father if it never mattered? If "it's us against the world, my lady," and "we'll get all the Miraculous back together," never mattered, then why include it? If two partners chosen to fight evil together and the yin-yang symbolism never mattered, why set it up?
If you set something up, you have a responsibility to deliver on it, and Miraculous failed. And yeah. I get that it's hard. I'm not saying writing is easy. But anything is better than this! Writing is your job, and I don't expect literal perfection, but I expect it to fulfill the basic expectations of writing. I expect it to at least be good. This is not good. They literally ignored their own story and themes and character arcs and narrative payoff because they wanted Marinette to get a swanky new outfit and a cool fight scene. It wasn't even for her character. It's just so that they can put give her a cool power-up and sell Bug Noire dolls. It's disrespectful to Adrien's character, and it's disrespectful to Marinette's character too.
The writers failed to make Marinette interesting in terms of the conflict with Gabriel. They gave all the set-up to Adrien and didn't want to write the payoff. There are no emotional stakes in the final battle. They literally only talk about Adrien, and he's not there for that. It's bad writing. And if they didn't let Adrien be a part of the arc with his father as the villain, what hope does he have in the arcs with Lila as the antagonist, since she is a Marinette-centric villain? TA has already said that Marinette is Barbie and Adrien is just Ken. The writers have said that Gabriel is considered a hero by the end of Season 5. The show bible says that Adrien will never find out that his father is Hawkmoth.
Let's face it, they aren't coming back to this. Gabriel's era is over. Miraculous is well known for setting up conflicts and dropping them like a hot potato. If we ever deal with this, it's gonna be half an episode of Adrien forgiving Marinette because "she did it out of love." None of this will matter come Season 6. The supposed conflict being set up now will matter to Season 6 as much as the Ladynoir set up in Strikeback with the "we'll take back all the Miraculous together, you and me," mattered to Season 5, which is to say not at all.

Why Gabriel doesn’t deserve a redemption - the Hypocrisy of the Writers - Miraculous Season 5 Finale spoilers Ahead.
Tumblr media
If you have seen the finale then you already know what happens to Gabriel . He dies but gets remembered as a hero and his reputation was unscratched. The writers have the audacity to say a teenage girl will never become a better person because her actions are unforgivable but they go ahead and redeem Gabriel Agreste - a literal terrorist and abuser - who has done a lot worse. This post will explain why Gabriel doesn’t deserve a redemption arc and how his character feels ruined.
Part 1 - Gabriels crimes and why the writers think they are justifiable. Triggers of Child abuse and terrorism
Tumblr media
This man has committed atrocious crimes of which the most obvious was child abuse. Mainly towards Adrien. The writers think due to Gabe losing his wife - it is justified why he neglects Adrien - it is a sign of grief. That he spends every day terrorizing Paris because he wants Emelie back to complete Adrien's family. They say he does all he does because he cares about his son. While this was the case during seasons 1-4 , his character changes in season 5. He no longer does it for Emily and Adrien but for power. He abuses Adrien even more this season by trapping him in a room and separating him from Marinette.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However his Character is ruined in the season 5 finale. He wishes Emily and Natalie to live and pleads with Marinette to make sure Adrien remembers him as a good father. That's not her burden to carry or her responsibility . Gabriel had the audacity to ask the girl he traumatised to keep every crime he has committed a secret from his own son ! Despite everything Gabriel has done to Marinette - she finds out he was Hawkmoth - she still forgives him and helps build a statue of Gabe in his honor. The writers think Gabriel deserves redemption because he did show remorse for what he did to Adrien and cried when he watched Emilie's tapes.  But Adrien wasn’t his only victim and child abuse wasn’t his only crime. Gabriel never showed remorse for what he put Marinette through (he knows she's a ladybug .) He never apologized for separating her from Adrien or for the trauma he inflicted on her as Ladybug. Even when Ladybug gave her a chance , he blew it by paralyzing her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is also an international terrorist who primarily targets children. He threatened to kill Alya’s family and murdered many Parisians in Strike Back but still gets remembered as a hero. Even in the final fight , he says he doesn’t care about the innocent victims he hurted. He never felt bad about what he did. It gives kids a bad message. While I think Gabe dying in Emily's place isn’t a bad idea , the fact that Gabriel gets away with his crimes and is celebrated as a savior is disgusting. At the very least , he shouldn’t be presented as a good man and should be remembered as the villain and a terrorist. It’s a slap in the face for all his victims. The fact that all of Gabriel's other crimes are forgiven just because he felt remorse for one is sickening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Especially in Season 5 , where the writer makes Gabe to be sympathetic by having his relationship with Emelie mirrors Adrienette’s relationship because he and Marinette both came from humble backgrounds. That's why the writers think Gabe is redeemable ,  because he and Marinette are similar and both care for Adrien. The fact he basically got what he wanted and is being remembered as a savior is so unfair to Marinette and Adrien. Sure he died , but Emelie came back or he reunited with her (depending if you think it was Amelie or Emelie). Therefore , Gabe doesn’t deserve redemption because he never proved himself or felt remorse for most of his crimes. He manipulated Marinette till the very end into thinking he was a good person when in reality , he doesn't care about anyone except for himself , Adrien , Natalie and Emelie.
Part 2 - Obvious hypocrisy
Tumblr media
It is no secret that Thomas dislikes Chloe. However in Season 5 he has taken his hate for her way too far that he sacrificed good writing to bash her character and hurt her fans.  He repeatedly says on his twitter Chloe will never become a better person because she is a bully and has done too many unforgivable acts. Surprisingly , in season 5 episode 26 , they go ahead and redeem Gabriel - a terrorist , child abuser , groomer and manipulator - who has arguably done so much worse. I don’t mind if the writers don’t give Chloe a redemption arc , not all characters need a redemption but it feels hypocritical saying a teenage bully is irredeemable but an adult terrorist is sympathetic. Especially of how rushed and badly written Gabriel's redemption arc is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So when Chloe does something evil , the writers say she in irredeemable and deserves every bit of Karma but when Gabriel does something worse , the writers justify what he has done because of his sympathetic motive and give him a redemption story. This disgusts me because it is shown time and time again that Gabriel likes to use Chloe in his heinous plans. Three episodes ago Gabriel was manipulating and grooming Chloe into joining his side. Gabriel is partly to blame for Chloe's worst crimes , he enabled her and put the ideas in her head. But the writers act like Chloe is more in the wrong than Gabriel when he is clearly more guilty than she is !! They act like it is OK for Gabriel to manipulate and akumatize Chloe because it's for the sake of getting his wife back. Chloe is not a good person , but it is unfair how she is the only character to face consequences when Characters worse than her are getting rewarded and receive happy endings !! Chloe is disowned by her father and sent to live with her abuser while Gabriel reunites with Emelie (depending on which sister you think it was at the pool party) and is celebrated as a saviour. Gabriel being more moral in the eyes of the writers than a misguided teenager - who also is one of his main victims - is sickening.  Therefore Gabriel redemption isn’t deserved because it shows the double standards the writers have for Chloe.
Tumblr media
To conclude - Gabriel's character in the Season 5 finale is basically ruined. Gabriel receiving a redemption is an example of bad writing and feels rushed. He only felt remorse for what he did to Adrien but never felt bad for terrorizing Paris or using Chloe. He never apologized to Marinette for separating her from Adrien or for other crimes he did. His redemption feels Hypocritical compared to the character of Chloe - who was one of Gabriel's main targets. Hopefully in season 6 , Adrien finds out about what happened and Paris receives the justice they deserve. However if you like what they did with his character , that is perfectly fine . I’m not saying you are not allowed to dislike Gabriel. This is just my opinion . Feel free to disagree :) . Please stay respectful.

Gabriel vs Chloe/Lila
I used to frequent the Miraculous subreddit (biggest mistake of my life) to see others opinions on Seasons 4 and 5. One question I would see pop up usually is as follows:
Why do people think Chloe/Lila is worse than Gabriel?
The common answer I’ve seen is that bullying and isolation are issues that the audience can relate to, something that’s more down to earth and closer to a viewer’s potential issues. Gabriel, meanwhile, is a supervillain who makes other ridiculously costumed supervillains when they feel bad, his situation was farther out, less relatable, so hammed up at times (cartoon and all) that people would take it less seriously.
And honestly? I completely understood this answer: many viewers’ overwhelming hatred of Chloe and Lila, from what I’ve seen, stemmed from personal relation to their victims, and their own experiences with bullies. It’s completely understandable why people would feel this way.
But then I thought about it for a second, and while I still understand that reasoning, I don’t understand it in any other context.
I mean, I’ve seen people on there genuinely say that Gabriel had more redeeming qualities than them, which confuses me. Lila I kind of understand, I mean we know literally nothing about this character, and the fandom reason of “she lies for attention because her mother is barely home”, which would give her sympathy, was a little… muddled, when it’s revealed she has 3 moms that she’s somehow lying to about being their daughter (what on earth) and has multiple identities. But Chloe? Season 2-3 was showing that she did have redeeming qualities, that she cared about people (few but regardless), she was even able to suck up her own pride when being a hero! Gabriel… He’s an odd case in which the story goes back and forth on whether he’s an awful irredeemable monster, or flawed but sympathetic dad trying his best, while also flip flopping on when exactly they want you to believe as much. Right now? He’s horrible, but the narrative want you to believe he’s just “trying his best” and thinks that he somehow has the room to ask Marinette to “tell Adrien to remember all the times I was a good father” (Marinette should’ve spat on his statue ngl)
Also, Gabriel is a neglectful, dare I say abusive father! Literally mind controls his son and is trying to control him to have the “destiny” that HE wants, not caring about his son at all. He literally pretends to bond with him at one point in Season 5 just so he could give him an alliance ring and walk off smirking, planning on akumatizing him (never brought up again btw). Like, I get that Hawkmoth is more of a hammy cartoon villain, and a lot of those aspect spill into Gabriel (I mean he had a silly stupid number near the beginning of season 5 that I hate to love). But the Gabriel half is genuinely horrible, and those aspects spill into Hawkmoth. Akumatizing, physically abusing your son, and ruining his relationship to akumatize his girlfriend in Chat Blanc, emotionally manipulating him with his dead mother in both Chat Blanc and Ephemeral, literally any time he causes an akuma on purpose by ruining the life of someone he used to be close with or personally knows (the comedian, Andre, anyone working under him), emotionally manipulating his son AGAIN just so he could plan to akumatize him later, locking him up in a white room and emotionally depriving him of everything, literally everything he does in season 5 actually. I understand that some of his more atrocious actions are supervillain things, and that could be more difficult to relate to real life problems. But come on, “neglectful, abusive, controlling parent” is absolutely a real life issue that people have, and it’s a bit strange I haven’t seen that brought up more often
I’m not saying that Chloe and Lila are saints by any means at all! But I am just saying that’s it’s kind of funny that people will say, with their whole chest, that vindictive bullying is actually worse than terrorism and abusing your child, and the idea that the narrative could agree with this scares me

Something I dislike about Chloe’s damnation is how her good actions never have that “selfish” part of them
My main examples is Zombisue and Queen wasp
She sacrificed herself to save ladybug and apologizes at the end, saving ladybug is selfless since she genuinely trusts ladybug will save them all (LIKE CHAT NOIR DOES, she’s doing the same chat does and is meant to and she doesn’t gain anything from apologizing since she already looks good in ladybug’s eyes for saving her
And in queen wasp she knows she’ll won’t be getting the miraculous back but she gives it up because of her devotion to ladybug
If the writers wanted to make her seem evil and selfish they would have given her something to gain out of this situations like money or fame, not the sympathy of her idol, is like the writers don’t know how to make actions have a selfish intentions to them and it shows with Marinette
Marinette has done this multiple times (for example she goes to Shanghai under the excuse of following Adrien which is extremely selfish) and the writers never seem to notice
I once read a fanfic called “bad for business” about a side villain of a show (which show ain’t important) not joining the main villains which invade he’s territory and basically plan to destroy the whole place.
The villain constantly makes deals and promises with selfish goals knowing full well most of he’s Allie’s might end up weakened, in Jail or dead at the end, and everything he does is selfish even if they aren’t flat out evil (I will help them in this turf war so they will help ME in this turf war, I will give them valuable information so they will destroy our mutual enemies for ME, I will kill this terrorist so I can frame it for the murder of another goon I murdered)
And the fan fic makes this clear every single scene, he does have good traits like caring for he’s partner and trying (emphasis on trying) to console a girl (which would have been he’s enemy in the canon show) after the two think a friend of hers died in front of their eyes but even till the end it’s shown how he’s never done a single selfless thing in the whole history and that’s why despite everything he did on the fic and what he wanted to achieve and by the means he did, he still rooted for him, because he was evil and nothing was hiding it (specially not the writer)
Meanwhile miraculous doesn’t know the difference between a selfish and selfless action, a fanfic does something better than miraculous, a fanfic of a series far worse than miraculous is more aware of good and evil than a children’s show
God I love ranting about miraculous mistakes and double standards
I feel like the writers have no idea what an anti-hero is, because characters are either completely perfect and can do no wrong, or they're complete monsters who are pure evil.
The show tries to write characters like Chloe, Gabriel, and Felix in a morally gray light, yet the writers always try to either downplay their actions or act like they've been good from the start.
The whole point of writing an anti-hero is that it allows you to explore stories in a way that differ from the usual moral paragons people are used to seeing in superhero media. These kind of characters usually find ways to accomplish their goals that don't allign with the beliefs we have. It makes us think about whether the ends justify the means, or how thin is the line between being a hero and being a villain.
But this show doesn't do that sort of thing. When a character does something, it's either good or bad, no matter the consequences it has. I'm not saying we need complex writing on the same level as Breaking Bad for this show, but if they're going to try and discuss topics like redemption for past deeds, you need to draw a line and show what kind of things are okay to do, what things aren't okay to do, and why actions are viewed in a certain way.

Spot the difference
When Zoe and Alya become replacement heroes, Marinette could have told the kwamis to pass on the message to avoid wearing the rings! Except she was kinda depressed and their decision had been a shock to her.
However as she went to visit Alya to congratulate her, she also had a list of things to beware and avoid, among which was the alliance ring.
Alya dismisses Marinette’s concern, reluctant to give up the latest technical fad and unable to think of an explanation for even doing that. Besides, does Marinette know how much these things cost?
Tumblr media
After the events of Deflagration, Marinette, Alya, Tikki and Plagg are curious how Monarch discovered their secret identities so quickly.
What is the difference between Marinette and Alya? Could it really be the alliance ring?
Plagg: actually, now that you mention it, Chat Noir doesn’t wear an alliance ring, but Kitty does.
Everyone is stunned.
Alya hesitantly says, “And Kouki wore 5 alliance rings on his hands, Nora was complaining to me about him being such a spendthrift. That was the only time we faced an akuma with the powers of 5 miraculous. Did the other akumas wear multiple alliance rings?”
Marinette: no.
Alya said what everyone must be thinking. “So the alliance rings are how Monarch transfers the powers of the kwami.”
Tikki: you think Gabriel might be Monarch after all?
Marinette: i don’t want to think it could be true, but we can’t discount the possibility. I know he was the Collector before but the arrival of Mayura means he has at least one ally who could akumatize him on his behalf.
Alya: it is too much of a coincidence that Gabriel should be akumatized right after he loses the grimoire, the most incriminating clue that would lead to Hawkmoth.
Plagg: if Gabriel really is Monarch, there’s only one way to know for sure. He’ll have my mark on him after the wax museum.
Alya: right…how are we going to see Gabriel’s arm? A vaccine?
Marinette: not to mention, i am certain that Monarch would want to hide such a clue with makeup.
Plagg: there’s only one way to know for sure. A spy mission. Send me Marinette, no offense but out of all of you, I blend in the most easily.
Alya: right, then how do you explain kwami buster?
Tikki, who knows Plagg knows the Agreste mansion best of them all, speaks up. “No, he’s right. We need to send in Plagg.”
Marinette twiddled her fingers. “Especially since the Resistance’s last plan with Gabriel epically failed.”
Plagg avoids meeting Adrien, knowing he won’t take kindly to his father being accused again. But he really goes all out in exploring the house. He does more than sneak into Gabriel and Nathalie’s rooms, he searches for hidden lairs and vaults. He finds Monarch’s lair easily enough, and his captured friends!
Plagg reports this to Marinette. Grimly, she starts planning. “Gabriel must be hiding the rings under his gloves.”
Alya: what are you going to do now?
Marinette: I’m going to arrest Monarch in the last place he expects. When do you think Gabriel is making his next public appearance?
Alya: uh…no clue. I’m still surprised he went to the parent teacher conference.
Marinette: we need more heads. Plagg, you can go to Chat and-
Plagg: actually, it might be better if you leave Chat out of this.
Marinette: why?
Plagg: I can’t say.
A pause before they move on.
Alya: what if Adrien has his friends over, is that enough of a public setting for you?
Marinette nodded. It will do, but I have to ambush him easily.
Alya: you can count on the resistance.
Sure enough, Alya knocks Gabriel unconscious and lets Ladybug in through the window. Adrien is stunned when Ladybug exposes his father as the villain.
As the resistance stands watch over the bound villain, Ladybug summons her lucky charm to find his lair.
She frees the kwamis. Gabriel is arrested but there is still the question of who Mayura is, either Tomoe or Nathalie. Anyway, they are both taken into custody where Nooroo happily outs them.
Adrien then has to move away to Paris after the public backlash and stay with his aunt. Plagg offers the miraculous again but Adrien politely declines, instead promising to help recover the Peacock from his cousin should he show his face again.

We Need a Hero. Ladybug Ain't It
In a July 2023 interview for the Guardian, creator of the Bechdel test, Alison Bechdel, bemoaned the toothless response from big media properties to demands for more complex female leads:
Is it dismaying that so many films continue to fail the test?
What’s really dismaying now is the way so many movies cynically try to take shortcuts and feature strong female characters – but they just have a veneer of strength and they’re still not fully developed characters.
I won't argue that Marinette/Ladybug isn't developed, but rather, that in Astruc's pursuit of a Strong Female Lead, we have a character whose strength, agency, wit, grief and elation, is most often at the expense of the cast around her.
We see this most clearly in her relationship with Adrien/Chat Noir. Here is a boy who is controlled, neglected, (arguably) abused, lied to, used, and weaponised by his sole guardian; his father. This has resulted in a sheltered and naive character who canonically has a desperately conditional understanding of love and loyalty. Most if not all of the displays of love Gabriel shows Adrien rest not on Adrien the person, but on Adrien the asset. His life is not his own, and as is revealed in very literal terms in Season 5, nor is his body.
The Gabriel and Adrien dynamic echoes through the Marinette and Adrien relationship. We are shown, explicitly in canon, that Marinette doesn't really know Adrien. He's a heartthrob and she understandably has a crush on him. But while in later seasons she casts aspersions at his army of adoring fans who go to any length to be close to him, she herself is clearly no better. Evidence says she's much worse actually. She takes astounding liberties with his day to day life, she lies to get closer to him, she polices his relationships with specifically other female characters, she delights in his sadness as seen in Glaciator 2:
Marinette: Oh, Adrien! Fancy seeing you here! And you look so sad, that's good!
Marinette as hero even abuses her position as Ladybug to break into his room, rifle around his things and even sniff his pillow. The show seems to make some attempt to explain away her behaviour in Derision by telling us that, in fact, Marinette does all this because she is the wounded party. Even if we accept for the moment that Derision wasn't a lazy retro-justification in service of Marinette's poor behaviour, her trauma does not trump Adrien's right to privacy.
Except, in-show, anything Marinette wants or needs trumps anything anyone else wants or needs, including Adrien–her ostensible partner. Adrien feels left out? Actually, this is more stress for Ladybug. Adrien dates Kagami? Actually this is competition for Marinette. Adrien is locked in a near-sensory deprivation chamber by his super villain father and feels forced to relinquish his miraculous? Actually this is bad news for Marinette.
If she's a hero, then she's one that comes with a price–one far beyond what I'm willing to accept as audience. I want a flawed hero. I don't want perfection. But equally, I don't want to be force fed the notion that this girl's dominant flaw is being a clutz. We get a few brief glimpses into the cost of her controlling behaviours but generally we suffer almost the entire cast telling us she is the Most Wonderful and Supreme Being That Has Ever Existed, all this while she consistently excels within the narrative through the diminishment of others. Need we remember her acing the gamer competition having never displayed a previous interest? How she surpasses even Joan of Arc in all matters miraculous?
Marinette the knight and Adrien the supposed Princess in the Tower: on paper the concept is a little tired but interesting, worth exploring. The role reversal that Astruc aimed for fell short though, and what we have instead is a role amplification. As I write, I struggle to think of a piece of media where the romantic interest has been quite so violated, lied to, limited and enfeebled.
Why did Bechdel's quote ring so true with how Marinette/Ladybug is drawn? That I feel cheated. That the potential for greatness was there, but instead we have a character who from a slightly different angle looks like a hero from wow-heroes-are-jerks juggernaut, The Boys.
I hope Season 6 interrogates Marinette's issues of control and denying agency more. I hope we see consequences beyond what is now a tedious series of panic attacks from Marinette when she's caught short. I hope real contrition and growth are modelled and that real, impactful, damaging character flaws aren't swept away by a cloud of narrative magical ladybugs.

the villain competency thing was something I was thinking about recently like. at least with Gabriel we have the whole kids vs adults, new generation vs old generation type thing and we didn't know much about him other than he was bad. additionally, since he was Adrien's dad, he had a control over him even without the sentinonsense. he posed a threat on both sides of the fight.
With Chloe and Lila, we were given them as civilians except they've made one so stupid that she's become an illiterate puppet scapegoat and the other can't even lie well without making other actually established smart people stupid enough to fall for it. And yeah they tossed in that bs with her fooling three separate adult women but like, idk i feel like that says more about them being incredibly negligent parents than it does about her cause is she just doing it for fun? what's that got to do with our heroes at this point in time? what's it show besides the fact that rather than making Lila actually great at manipulation you decide to show her manipulation by giving us scenes of something more "horrible" than her lying about knowing celebrities to a bunch of high school kids.
so if they decide to make this dumb blonde and plot armor liar our Big Villains from this point forward, they've got their work cut out for them. Like they're gonna keep retconning shit so it doesn't actually matter but if they cared at all about continuity then they can't make Lila the main lead villain without making her or the miraculous team look useless. If they're going with the callback to whatever scared her at the end of season 5 and have that help her be the main villain then damn she couldn't even do the evil shit herself huh? and if it's mainly just her and the akumas then high chance they'll toss in the heroes and have them be just as dumb as when they were around her at school. but then it'd be "why did Marinette give miraculouses to such pathetic heroes?" in the same vein of "wow the class was stupid enough to believe Lila's shitty lies" and it wouldn't even be their fault, it would be because they keep giving Lila plot armor. at the very least, the fact that Gabriel just kept doing the same thing over and over and kept losing was because that was established before they decided to be more story driven.
Chloe can't be smart. Austruc would absolutely refuse. so then you run into the same problem again except this villain is easy to beat and if you're all going against her at once then you're all the bullies at that point tbh. but also like, 18 vs 1?? gross. And she wouldn't even be a fun villain if she was stupid either. nowhere near Team Rocket levels of amusing cause at least they were their own characters. if they decide to make her a senti, it'll be bad either way cause they're def not gonna add any nuance to that. if they decide to make her good (highly highly highly doubt), it's going to be like those fics where Chloé has to go through so much shit as "punishment" that she's basically going deeper than the rock bottom of being literally abandoned by her dad and being abused by her mom that it's still a salt fic no matter how you spin what side she's on.
it's just like, the worst of characterizations of these characters and you picked every single bad story thread/end of each story arc of the past few seasons and it's a mess i don't have confidence in their writing to fix. but considering the writers' (specifically Austruc tbh) tendency to "we do what we want when we feel like we need to" attitudes to plot (side eyes that tweet about timeline) then highly doubt they'll even touch on old shit cause, as said by a different tweet, the Agreste Family Arc is over. they're def just gonna move on.
Yeah it's a mess

Welp, here we are, the third miraculous special, it has hyped as fuck, we didn’t see the alternative universe, we barely saw the characters everyone hyped, some people thought it was good, some people thought it was bad, but the thing everyone agreed on, was that it didn’t was as good as anyone thought it would be.
But no more talking, let’s do it, today I’ll be reviewing the miraculous special: Miraculous world Paris Tales of Shadybug and Claw Noir
Next time chose a bigger name this ain't big enough-
We start the special with a parody of the intro theme, also they change the animation style, and I am obliged to say, it’s actually good, the lyrics are better than the original theme, because the original intro theme is, let’s say “way to happy” they put a mysterious melody above it in the first seconds and it surprisingly worked.
And the lyrics talk a lot more about change love and hope, WHICH IS WHAT THE ORIGINAL THEME SHOULD TALK ABOUT ISNTEAD OF SAYING “IT’S LADYBUG” FOR HALF OF THE DAMN SONG.
And the new 2D Animation style is extremely pretty, kinda remembers me of miraculous pv, and is another reminder that somethings are better in 2D.
So yeah, good job miraculous team, you did something good, let’s see if you can keep up
(spoiler it didn’t)
And after the lil intro we start, and I really like what they did here.
It starts with a glitchy news article saying that Ladybug and Chat Noir saved everyone again, Gabriel along with Alya asks if this will work, but then Nino shows up running and says that they are coming, and as the roof falls apart and AU Gabriel sends the Akuma (which here are called Kamiko) and kamikotizes Alya.
Betterfly : Ubiquity, I’m Bettefly, I’m giving you the power to connect to the parallel world we have located so we can find help, with this gift I’m exposing you to many parallels and placing a great burden in your shoulders, do you accept it for the greater good?
Alya (AU) : I do.
STOP TALKING THERE’S PEOPLE DYING IN THE STREETS RIGHT NOW AND YOU TWO ARE TALKING LIKE NOTHINGs HAPPENENING, YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO THE 5 YEAR OLDS THAT YOU ARE GOING TO ANOTHER UNIVERSE? WELL MAKE THE AU GABRIEL TELL LADYBUG ALL THAT, THEY ARE GONNA MEET UP LATER, WHY EXPLAIN THIS NOW? IT JUST MAKES THOSE TWO LOOKS LIKE MORONS
And because of that I am not calling you for your real names anymore,
Alya/ubiquity you now will be called Failyla and inability.
And you Gabriel/Betterfly, your name now will be Foolbriel and …. Actually, you super hero name is already stupid.
Anyways even being an old trope, I really like when movies start with the end of the world, its gives kinda a mysterious vibe, it also is a nice way to say that the villains are supper powerful and that the next move of the main character is crucial for the wellbeing of humanity, well that would be if FAILYA AND FOOLBRIEL STOPED TALKING.
Anyways inability transforms and we have this design.
Tumblr media
Wait, did I lose something?? Did I blink? What happened? Why is she a ghost now?! No really why doesn’t she has legs? Was the supposed to be a Manta ray or something? Ok if we take of the astonishing colors her design is pretty meh, she’s just a massive cape and a headset, really I rather her old design, yes it doesn’t have the pretty colors but it has more detail, and Alya had legs-
Well, I’ll give her a 6.2/10 it’s ok.
Shadybug and Claw Noir appear trying to be mysterious but they forgot the MLB team already leaked their designs a long time ago and the scene cuts for some well animated intro credits.
We than cut to our Gabriel, just to things don’t get confusing its before Gabriel transforming the miraculous into rings but after the cataclysm, and Gabriel being here now it’s really just for that, so we know which time period is it.
Adrien becomes angstdrien as he had just cataclysmed the guy that tried to kill Paris a billion times, so Plagg gives the worst advice I’ve seen in my life.
Adrien was sad because he was afraid to lose control of his power (which like no? he DID have control over his powers and it was Gabriel who chose to be cataclysmed, but later in season 5 we find out Ladybug told Chat Noir about Chat blanc off scream so I guess it makes sense?)
And Plagg trying to comfort him says “sometimes destroying is the path to build the new”
Adrien was scared to lose control of his powers and hurt people he loves and Plagg tells him that destroying Is the-
youtube
We then cut again to Marinette and Alya talking about monarch’s being extremely lucky as Felix got the miraculous in the same day he didn’t want to use his brain so just gave it away from praticaly free-
We also found out that kwamis can turn invisible that… umm kwamibuster? That whole episode wouldn’t have happened if kwamis could turn invisible? That’s why you should write these important details BEFORE publishing a story, but whatev.
I bet all my life savings that this is just here cause in a future episode the writers will pull up a plot armor in the size of my asshole so the heroes don’t get caught.
Alya starts to feel sick and inability comes out of here also making a portal so Betterfly can pass
Betterfly: forgive my intrusion young lady, please don’t be scared, my name is Betterfly, I need someone to lead me to the holders of the miraculous of the Ladybug and black cat.
Uhhhhh, why would she know that? Like Betterfly doesn’t know who she is, in his eyes she’s just a normal ass teenager, how the fuck would a normal ass teenager be able to lead someone to two superheroes? Does he think that the heroes would just leave a gigantic ass outdoor sayin “if someone want to find us we will be at the Eiffel tower from 8pm – 10pm” or something?
Marinette: Ladybug and Chat Noir? But I don’t know how to find them, I don’t know them. I’m just Marinette, a normal girl.
Betterfly: I beg you, please, they’re my last hope
WHY WOULD SHE KNOW? I think the writers really wanted to make Foolbriel stupid, not joking, Shadybug and Claw Noir were able to find his hiding spot, this may be a sign that just like the original Gabriel, he is also a moron.
Inability then gains the original Alya conscience and Betterfly explains that she connected with Alya to open a gate between the worlds.
And like that is some shit power, we saw hawk moth making people be able to pause time, freeze people, make hurricanes, Akumas that are extremely powerful and there’s literally no but to their powers, but with inability he just, couldn’t make both of em be able to stay in this dimension, I’m telling you HE IS A MORON.
For a moment Failya comes and says they are coming so Betterfly takes Marinette away.
And I think it’s just really funny how Betterfly says that they are merciless but then 5 seconds later Claw Noir sends Nino back to his dimension unharmed, like, just actions truly merciless bastards would have.
Shadybug then restrains Alya using Claw Noir’s tail, Claw Noir then cataclysms Marinette’s roof and well done Clawny, self sentered brats like Marinette don’t deserve to have a roof
Betterfly then releases… Failya from the power he gave her
Excuse me what? She has the ability to teleport thro dimensions, if she just controlled her power a little bit THAT’S LITTERALY TELEPORTATION, YOU SAID NO TO TELEPORTATION? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Also, the character that is in every poster barely appears.. Nice.
Alya then transforms back to normal and calls Marinette using her notebook.
While that Shittybug and clown Noir- I MEAN Shadybug and Claw Noir try to find a stupid moron, then Shadybug uses her lucky charm and gets a binoculus that can detect butterfly fare helms, and she already knows what they are and what they do so I guess Shadybug can choose what she gets, this or the writers forgot that Ladybug should find out what the object do.
Betterfly puts Marinette in the Eiffel tower just before his Kamiko appears.
when they showed that Akumas are now Kamikos I thought to myself, hey Akuma is “demon” in Japanese so maybe kamiko means “angel” that would be cool.
So I searched it up and kamiko means ….upper elementary school…
ANYWAYS- they made failya not be a part of this special cause they needed a way for the villains to found the heroes so Shady and Clawny followed Betterfly upper elementary school and found him, this is miraculous, everyone knew from the beginning that at some time the writers would pull out some bullshit to keep the plot going.
Well Claw Noir cataclysms part of the Eiffel tower so both of them fall and Betterfly hides under a wall
The villains say if he doesn’t come out to play, they’re going to destroy the city, so Betterfly comes out and starts fighting the two, also the villains give us some exposition that Betterfly stole the butterfly miraculous and really? WOW, HOW WERE THEY WERE ABLE TO LOSE A MIRACULOUS FOR THIS GUY, THIS GUY, WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR A SECURITY SISTEM? A WATERGUN?
Only now Marinette receives the call Alya gave her two hours ago.
Tikki: they’re the holders of the miraculous of the Ladybug and the black cat from one of the billions of parallel universes in existence.
Ok now we are going to play a new game. Which is called
GUESS WHICH MIDIA THIS WAS COPIED FROM?
a) The MCU
b) Undertale
c) Spiderverse
Also, if Tikki knew that, why didn’t she tell Betterfly he was carrying his last hope? Tikki is an asshole.
Marinette: PARALEL UNIVERSES? Why didn’t you tell me about this?
Oh Marinette, it’s because you live in a multiverse that wasn’t predetermined yet, so just like time travel, kwami powers, people, who gets good or not, and billions and billions of others things, it only became a thing now!
The villains also tell us that they work for “the supreme” and Betterfly stole the miraculous from him.
And we get explained why Shadybug and Claw Noir can use their powers multiple times without transforming back.
It’s because different from the original Ladybug and cat Noir those two are a bit older, making them being able to use it as many times as they want, this age change was foreshadowed in the beginning of the special when it was shown Nino Alya and max helped Betterfly, Betterfly can be an idiot but at least he isn’t irresponsible, he would never get teenagers to help him stop merciless tyrants.
Just kidding lol, actually the younger holders transform back cause using a miraculous doesn’t drain power only for the kwami but for the holder too, so the miraculous comes with a security system that makes them only be able to use it for a limited time because if they stay with it too much it makes the miraculous dangerous, but how shittybug and cloth Noir are using it for EViL they can go through this security system, but beware, as this has terrible consequences we never see.
how only Tikki gets tired after transforming if it drains energy from both of them? how Ladybug can spend how much time she wants with the costume if she doesn’t use the lucky charm as even if the doesn’t use lucky charm the miraculous is still draining her energy? Who knows who cares.
Marinette then transforms.
Betterfly says that it’s not too late, but this isn’t steven universe so SLAhadybug still try to grab his miraculous, but then Ladybug shows up.
Ladybug says that miraculous are supposed to be used for good but again, we are not in steven universe and no one change their mind that easily, so they start fighting.
While they fight SB (Shady bug) is able to throw LB (Ladybug) a wall, and as Betterfly see his last hope has been beated the shit out of he at least will help out the kid.
SB then uses her lucky charm and gets a car which she throws at the heroes.
THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT WHEN I SAY THE VILLAINS ARE TOO KIND.
IF THEY WERE REAL VILLAINS THEY WOULD GET SOMEONE ELSE’S CAR, WHERE’S THE PROPERTY DAMAGE DAMMIT? ALMOST EVERY VILLAIN IN THIS SHOW DESTROYS THE EIFEL TOWER, YOU ARE TRULY MERCYLESS? PROVE IT, SURPRISE ME.
Chat Noir comes out of nowhere to ruin my day as both Chat Noir and Claw Noir has the same first letters and I don’t know how to simplify their names without it getting confusing.
Chat and Claw start fighting but Chat grab Claw and threaten to cataclysm him, but Chat didn’t know that Claw, as a good emo is also depressed as fuck, so Claw grabs Chat’s hand and cataclysm himself and throws Chat into a random roof.
Betterfly then is able to free himself and LB.
LB: enough is enough! The miraculous are not created to cause harm!
Claw Noir: and what makes you so wideous cockrough? You are the superpower police?
LB: LUCKY CHARM
LB: A traffic cone?
oh she really IS the police huh?
As Claw Noir hates laws, he destroys LB’s trafficking cone, THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT, WITHOUT THE TRAFFIC CONE PEOPLE ARE GONNA HAVE ACIDENTS, EVIL STUFF, WELL DONE CLAW NOIR!
Chat shows up so LB tells they are not Akumatized and that BF (Betterfly) exists. SD then throws high hells at them? bro u a villain DO EVIL STUFF, GET A ROCKET LAUNCHER OR SOMETHING. YOU PARTHNER IS MUCH BETTER THAN YOU AT BEEING EVIL.
Tumblr media
Oh she actually got a rocket Laucher, STILL PATHETIC THOUGH
They fight a big more, and as BF can’t do much, he Kamikotizes Chat, and for the first time in 5 seasons, more than 100 episodes, we see how it’s like to be Akumatized.
As time looks like passes slower and his head is stuck in a void, Chat realizes he can’t move, but before he can panic….. a voice… a whisper…
“Celestic cat, I’m Betterfly”
With a voice as gentle as a million butterflies,
no.. NO… GET OUT OF MY HEAD
“do not worry as I’m not your enemy”
It feeds you with pretty lies
NO! I WON’T FALL FOR YOUR TRICKS
“I am not your enemy, I only want to trust you with the power to save us”
I can’t know if you’re telling the truth… I don’t even know you
“I only work for the greater good, just like you celestic cat”
“do you accept this gift I am offering you?”
……….I- I do.
Is this really how this scene plays out? No. I just wanted to set a darker tone before I show you the “celestic chat”
Tumblr media
The first time I watched this, I started stared laughing uncontrollably for a good minute, I didn’t knew what to say or what to think, as I was dying only one think was in my mind, what the fuck?-
WHO MADE THIS? I CAN’T BELIVE A HUMAN WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS, THEY DIDN’T TRY AT ALL, THEY JUST TOOK CAT BLANC AND PUTTED WINGS ON IT, THIS A FUCKING WATPAD FANFIC, IS LADYBUG GONNA ACTIVATE HER PTSD OF CHAT BLANC AND FALL ON CHAT’S ARMS TOO? Not only the whole concept of the episode is a big fanfic but now even the FUCKING CHARACTERS. I won’t even say anything about the character desing man, just fuck off.
celestial joke than grabs LB and BF and then flies aways, but SB uses lucky charm and gets sunglasses so she used her yoyo to hang on celestial joke’s tail, CJ (celestial joke) sees this and try to shake her off, considering that LB and BF are also there that’s a great idea because they deserve to fall off a 200 meters fall-
SB then trades the sunglasses for a fire Laucher but LB uses a thing called brain and just unbuttons Chat’s belt.
SB falls to her death as Claw Noir just watches it eating some popcorn, he then tries to grab SB miraculous but she wakes up and grab him.
Back to the morons, they go to the sewers cause why not? where CJ detransforms for some reason? Like he is a joke BUT WHAT THE FUCK? YOU CAN FLY! WHY WOULD YOU DETRASFORM?
Anyways Gabriel talks for the billionth time to his dead wife but he feels the best duo of the show fighting so its Akumatization time baby!
However, Claw still has the cataclysm so he cataclysms the Akuma and both calm down.
They then go back to Marinette’s broken room, Alya hides and they start looking for clues to why the portal was there of all places.
The scene then cuts to LB and Chat detrasforming and like. they both have the same identities even if in different worlds, they why don’t BF just tells them his identity? Ok I’ll give the benefit of the doubt, maybe he doesn’t know about monarch.
Anyways BF talks a bit about his world, there is an extremely powerful man who owns all the miraculous and so they set up a dictatorship where there’s nothing but hate. Ok they copied it from north Korea got it. Anyways he gave out some miraculous to powerful people who were loyal to him. But then Foolbriel steeled two miraculous to get Emely back, so to redeem himself he now is a good guy.
The scene cuts again to SB and Claw who are still in Marinette’s bedroom, SB finds Mari’s diary and start reading some of it, also discovering in the process that she is Ladybug, as she read more and more, she can’t help it but cry, but then she found out about what happens if someone has both the Ladybug and black cat miraculous.
Shadybug then uses her lucky charm and gets handcuffs, she than restrains Claw and take his miraculous, discovering who he was, and the Tumblr goes crazy once again as AU Adrien has a crush of AU Marinette.
Au Marinette reveals Plagg and Tikki and tries to use Gimmi but it glitches out, which makes her be thrown in the wall breaking the mirror
Sabrine: Marinette? Is everything all right?
Au Marinette: YEAH WHATEVER JUST, GET OF MY BACK
Sabrine: are you sure you’re ok sweetheart?
Au Marinette: YES, I’M OK I’M…. sorry mommy dear I just dropped my sawing machine, but it’s fine is just… slightly damaged
Sabrine: don’t worry sweetie we will take care of it! Broken things can always be fixed.
ok let’s say what it’s on everyone’s mind for a long time, we all would rather watch this other version of miraculous, the characters are more charismatic and realistic, the world seems more interesting, the world seems more interesting, there is an actual threat cause Foolbriel doesn’t have the power to fix everything, it is just way better than to watch two teenagers in a will they won’t they relationship for more than 100 episodes.
anyways au Marinette transforms back take off the handcuffs from au Adrien and gives back his miraculous, au Marinette starts crying and Claw tries to comfort her but it doesn’t work for obvious reasons.
Claw: how come the supreme never told us that merging our kwamis would grand us any wish we wanted?
Shady: For the same reason he never told us that using our powers would slowly destroy us.
Like, no? were 27 minutes in and you didn’t show any sign of being sick, like they now have some cracks in their necks but I think that if you’re getting every single inch of energy being drained out of your body it would do more than giving you some crack stickers.
Monarch shows up and the two try to attack him with no result cause of the determination miraculous, and also, I think it’s really funny cause, SD activates her lucky charm and gets a sword to attack him, but it doesn’t work cause he has the miraculous of determination, yet in the episode “determination” Manipula gets beaten cause of a chandelier, consistence.
Well, the duo team up with monarch and for some reason Alya starts filming it to show it to Marinette, like why? WHY WOULD SHE STOP WHAT SHE’S DOING TO SEE A VIDEO? IT’S NOT HARD TO BELIEVE THEY WOULD TEAM UP WITH MONARCH, YOU’LL JUST WASTING TIME.
Actually, I lied, SHE DIDN’T SENT THE VIDEO OR A MESSEGE, SHE CALLED HER INSTEAD, BECAUSE THAT WILL TOTALLY WORK, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SHOW?
Alya trying to compete who is the stupidest with Betterfly screams around for Ladybug and then shows the video, instead of you know, JUST TELLING HIM THE PLAN WHICH WOULD NOT WASTE SO MANY TIME.
Well, monarch’s plan is to make SD and Claw noir illusions to force the heroes to split up and then get em, LB however starts having a panic attack, but Chat comforts her because after season 4 the writers really need to shove up that he is not a sociopathic maniac.
Well LB makes a plan which is, they will get out of Paris so monarch wont mess with their plans, and Betterfly will Kamikotizes Alya in uniquity, so he will HIDE HIS IDENTIRY AND GIVE LADYBUG THE BUTTERFLY MIRACULOUS SO SHE CAN CREATE AN KAMIKO TO PROTECT THEM AND HIDE THE KAMIKO ELSEWHERE.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, if this show made the least bit of sense, BF would show his identity SO THEY CAN STOP ALL THE SUFFERING OF THE PEOPLE OF PARIS.
Anyways they perform their little plan and we see Ladybug with both the butterfly and Ladybug
Tumblr media
Ok we have some weak material here.. first of, this shade of purple doesn't go along with ladybug's neon red, I don't know if it was Purposeful but this black detail around her neck highlights her boobs a lot
They didnt even change her mask, they put some purple highlights and that's it, it's just kinda sad, I saw 10 year olds drawing something better than this.
Ok positives, I think her gloves are extremamly pretty and complement well her desing, the ladybug things in her hair are cool I guess.
I am really trying but this desing is overall just lazy, just like most original designs of this special really, well 4.5/10 lady fly really? Her name is ladyfly? LADY FUCKING FLY?
obviously, monarch Dekamikotizes uniquity but that was part of LB’s plan as she and Chat plays to pretend they didn’t knew about the illusion stuff, so monarch creates a portal for the evil duo and Claw and Chat Shady and lady start fighting, monarch also fuses with the bee the rat and the rooster miraculous, turns himself invisible and tries to paralyze Chat and LB, because of the powers of the Kamiko instead of paralyzing the monarch copies turn to feathers, now the butterfly is more powerful then the bee? Ok then I guess.
Monarch undoes the clones and quickly realizes it’s a trap, LB then activates her lucky charm which is a mirror, SB then accidently reveals that she read Mari’s diary and that her life sucks, LB uses the ‘we are not so different’ but it obviously doesn’t work, and SB reveals that Chloe made her suffer every day until the supreme came, Astruc, Chloe is already out of the show, COULD YOU STOP DEMONIZING HER FOR 5 SECONDS? Also, that would not be enough to make someone into a villain, don’t get me wrong bullying is horrible, I myself was a victim of bullying and I know how bad it feels, but WHAT THE FUCK THE CHLOE OF THIS WORLD DID? DID SHE KILLED MARINETTE’S GRANDMA OR SOMETHING?
Well, Marinette detransforms thinking that somehow this will help,
The scene then cuts to Chat and Claw fighting and there’s a joke that they argue if cats like water, just quality comedy.
Well Claw reveals that he wants Chat’s miraculous to make a wish and bring his mom back which is better, “my mom died so now I’m evil” then “oh noo, Chloe ruined my favorite pants, now I’m willing to kill people”
Marinette: if you read my diary then you know, it’s not all that easy, everything often hangs by a thread, I too was very angry, I too was hurt, I too was scared, and I still struggle with it every day, you don’t need any magical jewel, powers didn’t change my life, I changed the way I saw myself, I decided to love myself, to love the world around me, and I decided I could fix what’s wrong with it, and I’m sure if you change the way you see yourself, and your world, you will be able to fix what’s wrong with it too, just like I do here every time, you can fix it all.
Ok I need to say, the way they copied steven universe so well surprised me, like you got the rushed redemption arc for someone who didn’t deserve, u got the main character completely ignoring the other character problems so they can say “don’t worry I can fix you” you got the main character thinking they struggles were similar even if one was extremely more serious than the other, it really looks like steven universe, I thought when Marinette stopped monologuing, she would start singing change.
Ok being serious now, this is just another exemple of how Marinette is an ashole, she acts like their problem is similar but it isn’t, au Marinette lives in a dictatorship, we see how their Paris is in the first seconds, and look how it is
Tumblr media
Red clouds, destruction, fear, the characters say multiple times, things in their dimension are not good
SB: IN THE WORLD THAT I’M FROM, THERE ARE NO AWESOME GIRL FRIENDS TO INSPIRE ME EVERYDAY, NO AMAZING BFF LET ALONE A CALM AND GENTLE MOTH OR A BOY FRIEND WHO DOSEN’T THINK I’M A TOTAL LOSER!
BF: Your world is so different is so beautiful, you help each other you are partners, in mine any form of neutral aid is a crime
SB: no wish will save us.
BF: in my world I’m hunted relentlessly, no one believes in heroes, everyone is afraid of the supreme
Shady bug lives in somethings that is almost a north Korea, she’s trying to escape from her world, so she can be happy, it’s not as simple as Marinette makes it to be, Shady never had someone to be there for her, that’s why when the supreme helped her she immediately started working for him, in her world “love” isn’t a thing, I hate how Marinette put Shady’s problems like it’s something not so hard to resolve and like she knows what real suffer means, “it’s not all that easy, everything often hangs by a thread, I too was very angry, I too was hurt” yes, Marinette’s life wasn’t perfect, but it was 100 times better than Shady’s, but the writers want to make Marinette be the great hero of everything, even in situations she can’t be, you know who would be better to help Shady? Failya, au Nino, au max, people who actually know what she’s going through, God even fucking Betterfly would be better at helping her then Marinette, but the writers instead just want to make her an amazing person, and really that’s one of the main causes of a bad redemption arc, the character who needs to be changed, gets changed by someone who can’t change them.
But after this bullshit we have Chat and Claw, which really, again is rushed and not deserved, but I think the writers did the best they could do.
Adrien: I know you, you know?
Claw: no, you don’t! don’t pretend to be me, or else you wouldn’t be friends with a cockroach, if you were me your mother would also be-
Adrien: she is…
Claw: what?..... if you knew about the wish, why haven’t you tried it?
Adrien: I won’t tell you that I never thought about it, of course I thought about it, but.. everything comes at a price, if my mother came back
Claw: OUR mother
Adrien: if we brough our mother back, someone else would have to lose theirs, and that I can’t wish on anyone.
Adrien: I managed to go on living, trying to be happy as she wanted me to, I have my friends to comfort me, I’m ok now, as well as I can be anyway, it must be painful for someone who doesn’t have close friends, or anyone to comfort them,
Claw: Someone, but me?
Adrien: Only you can decide not to be alone.
Adrien: I can tell you about my friends from this world, you should meet them in yours, you’ll probably get along, take Nino for example.
Claw: Nino? I don’t think he will wanna be buddies with me considering how I treated him.
Adrien: he’s the most understanding person I know, just apologize and invite him to the movies, his favorite film is called space mutants vs ghost shark.
Claw: ha it sounds terrible.
Adrien: let’s say it’s the movie with the most improbable storyline I’ve ever seen.
Claw: and yet… you’re really making me wanna watch it.
This is why, even if Chat Noir is a useless selfish crybaby, even if Adrien in season 4 was the biggest asshole I’ve ever seen, even if in season five he is horrible, I still don’t hate him, for these little moments, where he shows that he is a good person.
He says that he thought multiple times of using the wish to bring his mom back, but never did because he knew it would take someone else mom away, it makes him feel real, as he thought about it but he didn’t want to make someone suffer so he could be happy.
He says “I’m ok now, as well as I can be anyway” showing that he’s telling Claw that even if he’s able to move on, it will still hurt, not like Marinette who says that everything is gonna be fine just so Shady stop fighting, he is truly opening his heart with Claw.
When he says “it must be painful for someone who doesn’t have close friends, or anyone to comfort them” it shows that Adrien knows Claw has gone through worse than him, and yet he still wants to help the best he can.
He slowly tries talking that claw doesn’t need to be alone, changing his tone but not making it about himself, but when claw feels Nino could never forgive him, Adrien gives him some tips of what to do.
And for last, Adrien is someone that knows better than Marinette what their villain contra part is feeling, so he is capable of helping him, or at least trying.
That’s why I like Adrien, most of the time he’s on scream it feels like he’s not perfect but he’s trying to do good.
This scene alone, gives this character that has been nothing but an asshole, a moment so the audience remember what made them fall in love with him for the first time, the fact that he Is trying.
But then came re- creation and ruined this touching moment cause Emelie is alive, yeeey
Fuck you miraculous team.
Well SB uses a miraculous Shadybug fixing everything and apparently changing her custom as well.
Shadybug and Claw Noir change personalities completely cause, why make have the same personality but make it obvious they are trying to change. when you can just copy paste the personalities of the two main heroes in them amirite?
They also pick other names cause toxinelle and griffe Noire are kinda cringe.
Shadybug: hmm, I’ll call myself Ladybug, the best there is.
Yeah, writers make her give up her identity just to be like someone she admires instead of being her own person, WHAT A GREAT MESSENGE TO TEACH KIDS. FUCK YOU
Well Betterfly Kamikokitizes Alya, while that, monarch fuses with the rooster and for some reason he receives a feather and he has to write what power he wants? Ok, if you say that now the rooster powers activate like this who am I to question?
Monarch asks for having access for any other dimension, wait but wouldn’t that be a wish? Destruction says “if the user wanted a pair of socks, that would be a wish, but if the user wanted to knit a pair of socks, that would be an ability” that’s why you don’t let things so vague, PEOPLE WILL GET CONFUSED.
Well inability fells something is off and Ladybug realizes it is monarch, so bettefly dekamikokitizes Alya and Kamikokitizes Ladybug who becomes
Tumblr media
HATSU NIMIKU?
Well monarch goes to a universe where scarabella and shitty Noire are the heroes cause the miraculous animators don’t have enough budget to make more character models, so he tries
Tumblr media
Don’t play with my feelings like this… you son of a bitch.
Well, he also tries a manga one but then…
Tumblr media
Wait.. I thought that what was going on was that Gabriel was jumping from universe to universe and the original LB was following him, but apparently not? If lady noire is here that means all universes where a Marinette is a main hero, they become hatsu nimiku. But who would be Kamikotizing them? is the show trying to tell us that this au jumping betterfly shady and claw did happen to all universes? But that also must mean there are thousands of monarch’s jumping from universe to universe, and now he knows that he can jump through multiverses he can just wait for all betterflies to leave to their Aus and thousands of ladybugs and chat noirs will have to fight alternative universes monarchs, and because the ladybugs aren’t cosplaying hatsu nimiku anymore they won’t have the power to send them back, there will be thousands of monarchs running around and no one will be able to do anything as just MONARCH’S can teleport through dimensions, and if that happens the multiverse will become a fucking caos because the writers don’t see that this IS FUCKING STUPID.
Gabriel gives up and never tries this actually good idea ever again, and the 3 idiots fuck of to their dimensions, I’m done, I don’t wanna talk about this episode anymore I’M FUCKING DONE.
Ok, this special is bad but it doesn’t hurt me THAT much, the characters are morons, you don’t feel the villains are a threat, and the fact that they change their minds so fast doesn’t help, talking about the redemption arc, they are hiporitical saying that shady and claw can change because they suffered so they deserve to be forgiven but chloe, who's also a teenager who suffered, but didn't do not even close to what shady and claw must have done, is just a heartless monster, the special feels so out of place sometimes, like it should have been in an earlier season, the writers pull up the most nonsensical things just to keep the plot going, and characters that people hyped don’t have not nearly enough screentime, the special was supposed to be “what if the butterfly was used for good” but we don’t see much of betterfly using his powers, almost all the new hero designs are lazy, they just put more work on the ones they saw they could do merch of it( cause if you don't know there's already merch)
Tumblr media
overall, it isn’t painfully bad like most episodes of season 5 but it is not good either, you need to turn off your brain to enjoy it, and there would be no problem on it, cartons that you just turn off your brain and enjoy are not something bad, the thing is miraculous is trying to be a deep story, but it fails. Well, I’ll give the special a 6/10 whatev.
Thanks for reading until the end, I’ll see you in the next post.

Trey: *Trying to explain Riddle is that way because of his mom*
Me: Give me a minute as I pull up my ‘Trauma Doesn’t Excuse Sh*t Behavior’ PowerPoint.
Say it with me, everyone: an explanation is not an excuse 😊
You know, the other day I was watching one of Ryan George's Pitch Meetings and when Producer Guy asked Writer Guy how the audience would root for the villain of the franchise and the response was "he's handsome" which basically explains most people's reactions to fictional men.
Prepare for incoming rant that has little to do with the ask
This probably might come as a shock because one of the main appeal of twst would be the whole villainous aspect/Disney Villain fanbase but I don't really like villains that much, at least, not romantically. Like don't get me wrong, I think that they're incredible characters and it would be so fun to sit down with one and have a conversation with one. Villain songs are so fun (I was literally singing ‘This Day Aria’ to myself the other day I haven’t heard that song in like a decade) and you can tell that that characters like Scar or Hades or Shere Khan or Jafar or Maleficent are having so much fun being deliciously evil and even the more serious, complex ones like Loki or Frollo are fun to pick apart so yeah I understand the hype. I just always rooted for the heroes and I guess heroic characters have always been more my type.
My mother absolutely loves Erik Destler and is forever salty that Christine chose Raoul (despite my many many attempts at arguing why Raoulstine is the superior couple - smol primary school me could not understand why my mum liked the chandelier dropper and was deeply concerned), my best friend has been in love with Heathcliffe since we were eleven, and my little sister has literally told me that her type of fictional men are the toxic red flags (not exactly word for word but she did explain why she likes bad boys over good boys when I was complaining about how my type (wholesome soft boys) always get sidelined for the arrogant, snarky bad boys - we're also very diametrically opposed on our views of friends to lovers (my s++ tier all time favourite and her loathing) vs enemies to lovers (I can't really stand it - Pride and Prejudice is the only exception - and that's literally all she consumes) so that might also be a reason).
Like, I understand the appeal of a Byronic hero (Mr Darcy has far too much power) - a closed off, broody man that hates everything but you? And will burn down the world to keep you warm? I can respect that there are people who dig that. But their not really for me.
The mild bout of insanity thirteen year old me had where I spent two months attracted to Edward Rochester is an outlier and should not have been counted (though that was during my wattpad phase so...)
But I can admit that I have yet to shake off my feelings for Dr Henry Jekyll, Victor Frankenstein and Dorian Gray (though to be fair, Mr Gabriel John Utterson the lawyer and cinnamon roll artist boy Basil Hallward do own my heart). And yes, Jeremy Jordan did make me question my morality as he did make my feelings for Light Yagami be too positive to be sane for a brief moment (Touta Matsuda is still my man, don't worry). But apart from them, literally all of my faves are what you'd call your traditional, morally upright heroes.
Basically what I'm saying is that my perception might be skewed because I've never had the whole 'villains are cooler' mindset when it came to stories. Yes, I love the villains as characters but I always liked their heroic foils more (goodness is just so attractive to me). You get lots of amazing heroic protagonists that have horribly tragic backstories and they're the ones I always fall for because the idea of being a kind sweetheart despite the world being anything but is just *chef's kiss* that's a kind of strength that's so swoon-worthy.
I guess that's why it's harder for me to look past the characters' actions in twst is because, well, they chose to do everything they did. They made a conscious choice to be terrible, despite understanding the consequences. Riddle may have been brainwashed into becoming a tyrant by his mother but he still admitted that he knew he was being horrible - he understands the concept of morality, of good and bad, and he willingly and deliberately did everything he did.
I suppose this text post I found on Pinterest would explain my point better:

Gale Reviews: ML Season 5 episode 23 Revolution
Spoilers below
-Chloe being puppet as the new dictator of Paris. Outlawing super heroes and monarch. So cringe
-ladybug and chat noir debating on what to do but think since Chloe isn’t akumatized they would look like villains if they did something. Ummm, she has a robot army and declared herself leader, I’m pretty sure you got a free pass to beat her ass
-Pffff! They are trusting adults. Yeah, cause THAT always worked for you guys.
-of course that Racist cop is fine with Chloe being in charge!
-meanwhile Plagg talking sense to Adrien
-he was going to tell her, but in her defense this stupid ass situation is kind of important
-It’s really sad that the reaction to Chloe being a dictator is really not surprising. I could go in depth but if I think about our current society I will just get annoyed.
-Chloe at least tried to have monarch arrested… before then immediately listening to him and getting powers BUT pretending she didn’t have an akuma.
-A political puppet that’s a hypocrite. What a twist. (Said no one)
-Queen mayor, at least Chloé gets some sort of outfit change.
-So the Resistance is doing a protest. How French. I hope they involve a guillotine.
-… if this were anymore on the nose it would be a face hugger.
-I will give Astruc one thing, he nailed what a typical politician is like. Corrupt, arrogant, being told what to say and do, and lies all the time. I could go on but I hate politics.
-chloé and evolution, and Chloe being the only one in class yet NOT paying attention. That’s actually kind of funny. Like why even go?
-How did they get a Statue like that built in such a short time?
-did Chloe just Legislate love?
-and she just arrested Marinette’s parents and captured her.
-Adrien still can’t communicate with Marinette cause of the situation.
-Adrien found out what Chloe did and is PISSED!
-Chloé knows about London.
-At least Adrien didn’t cave. But now he’s captured.
-Sure is Big brother up in this bitch.
-Plagg being like (want me to take a crack at the screens) Plagg is best boy
-looking at it, the jail/detention isn’t that hard to escape.
-wait did chat noir use cataclysm 2 times already? Well we can assume he detransformed and retransformed.
- Chloe yelling about threats to democracy, yet never knowing what the word meant.
-Ladybug and chat noir step in to tell her. Perfect.
-invincible prisons, oh damn.
-Gabriel and Tomoe out here waiting for the detransformation and taking back control.
-welp, I guess this makes Queen mayor the most effective akuma. She captured them both and now they will detransform. Unless someone shows up? Maybe Su han will finally be useful. I’m kidding. My bet is they get a power up
-ladybug coming in clutch with hero speeches
-Did he just say super underpants?!
-They just willed their transformation back! So I guess they are all grown up now?
-Monarch is shocked by the power of plot convinience.
-chat noir didn’t need to do that, he just wanted to show off and I don’t blame him.
-Was ladybug going to give Chloe a charm? I don’t think she wants one.
-And the mayor steps in to finally ground her.
-Lila took the robots.
-so the kids encourage Ms. Bustier to run
-Chloe is being taken by her mother to have her education Re-evaluated. And now Chloe is going to expose what she knows to Marinette as one last act of spite. Though for a brief moment we saw her pause on Sabrina, perhaps contemplating something. But for what reason, we may never know.
-meanwhile, Adrien is being forced to leave now by his father. He can’t say no because Amok.
-Nathalie is there, Nathalie do something!
-no Nathalie Kick Gabriel’s ass! Don’t just stand by!
-wait so Chloe never called her. Adrien got to tell her. Well at least that.
-Break my heart why don’t ya.
-they sold enough Alliance? Oh dear that can’t be good.
-G being a real G and letting Adrien go.
Tumblr media
-FINALLY! A canon Adrinette kiss. Too bad it’s absolutely tragic
-G no! You have to seperate them now.
-Ah there goes my heart.
-Oh bonus scene.
-Marinette telling Chloe to F*** off was great.
-Lila or whoever she is has that suitcase and is likely going to mess with the plan Tomoe and Gabriel have
___________________________________________
Honestly this episode was cringe for most of it.
Chloé being dictator was jumping the shark, ladybug and chat noir can use their powers multiple times now which is about time but probably not useful now.
Lila has the pieces she needs and finally
ADRINETTE KISS!
That last part alone keeping this episode from being the worst of season 5
I give it a 6.5 out of 10
The 6.0 being awarded cause of the Adrien kiss
The additional .5 being Adrien and Marinette standing up to Chloe.
Though Andre got off easy

a list of my unpopular ml opinions because I feel like hitting a hornet's nest :)
Alya and Nino are very good best friends to Marinette and Adrien. Some of you just don't know what flaws are.
I genuinely feel bad for Fu and think he's a good example of a terrible master who tried his best. A good unreliable adult who had good intentions. I like characters like this.
Marinette should not have given Chloe another chance to use the Bee miraculous, especially when the latter refused to give it back when she picked it up at first.
Lila is an excellent villain and I can't wait to see what she's up to next.
Adrien should have been able to give Felix a punch for all the shit the little shit pulled.
I don't like Luka. I think he's just there and a bit of a blank state. I also don't like his design and I'm a very vain person LMAO
I don't like Kagami. I believe she was a shitty friend in s5 and the end of s4. The fact that some people believe she's a better friend than Alya even now disgusts me.
I think it's okay for Adrien to be saved and not have to fight every battle because irl, not all abused people have the power or courage to fight for themselves.
I like Marinette's and Adrien's flaws. It makes them interesting as people and makes the story interesting when it comes to their decisions (or lack of making one).
Gabriel's decision at the end of s5 is NOT a redemption to me.
I don't like that everyone that's not the core 4 has their miraculous permanently now. Too many heroes and it feels too saturated and scattered.
I would prefer it if Felix stuck to being an antihero and doing what benefits his goals.
I wish the guardians were against ladynoir at one point so I can see them fighting.
I need Kim to redeem himself please why the fuck did you do what you did in derision KIMMMMM!?!?!?!
I am open to a Chloe redemption but I also don't want her to be friends with Marinette.
Nathalie should be the one to come clean to Adrien about the truth of his birth, his father and all the Agreste secrets. Not Marinette. Leave Marinette alone.
The fandom is very biphobic, racist and sexist. Both aggressively and passively.
AND NOTHING ANYONE CAN SAY CAN CHANGE MY MIND.

Thoughts on Miraculous Ladybug : A Comment from YouTube I'm proud of about themes and Chloe
The thing that confuses me is theme wise Akumas are people who are hurt/have been wronged. who feel alone or like that hurt isn't being seen, who then lash out to try to make that hurt seen or help themselves...often in ways that don't make sense logically to us but makes sense to them in the heat of the negative emotions. but the point is these 'villains' are in fact victims. they are people who are hurting and who need help and when you find the core of their problem (represented by an item that often is connected to their problem) and acknowledge it/break it open. then your able to have a chance to actually talk to them/calm them down and give them the help they need.
Tumblr media
the show has been pointing to the fact that the 'villains' are victims where in these cases we blame the ones who act like they understand or are there for the victims and who encourage them down bad paths(in this case hawkmoth).
but the show has used Chloe in particular to both have Marinette stand up to someone bad and not let them get away with stuff and shows if your firm about it they aren't unbeatable or that strong. and the show has used Chloe in particular to show as well that people are complex. that even if Mari personally doesn't like someone it doesn't mean they don't have problems and that they might need help seeing how to be better. Marinette went from seeing Chloe as simply evil to seeing how complex Chloe was (and honestly kind of pitiful).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so what I don't understand is if they make chloe completely unredeemable..... If we are supposed to take that at face value...why the HELL should I believe Mari would give Gabriel /hawkmoth a chance or any understanding when Gabe has been terrible all season and been terrible as hawkmoth?
if they invalidate the arc of Chloe which they had been using to teach Mari to reach out to the bad guy because they might be hurting and need help like the victims...why would I believe Mari would reach out to hawkmoth?
even more when WE the audience know that Chloe's downward spiral was a direct plan by Gabriel. hawkmoth isolated Chloe on a rooftop, cut of her line to signal to ladybug literally by cutting the wire to the signal, told her that her parents were targeted because of her, implying that he might keep doing so when she had no way to protect herself since she had understood ladybug saying she couldn't be a hero anymore for her and pollen's safety...just for Chloe to be targeted anyway and for pollen and the other Kwami being stolen and not been properly protected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like I get why Mari and others think Chloe was just being her entitled self, upset about not being the bee....but WE the audience knows that Chloe only agreed to side with hawkmoth to free her parents who were hostages and because if she didn't he would have kept pollen and the rest...and she had no idea how he'd react if she rejected his offer when she literally couldn't protect herself AND the literally master at manipulating emotions dug directly into her insecurities that he set up with this scenario.
Tumblr media
So while I get Mari misunderstanding Chloe at irredeemable.....WE the audience knows better and more about the situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it feels even weirder because Chloe's spiraling had a direct parallel to both Adrien and Marinette who relied on old behaviors to cope and distract from their real issues and semi pushed people away to not face those issues. Chloe being worse could work as relying on being mean to cope because THAT is what she knows and is good at. its familiar and she thinks (the literal biggest fan of ladybug) that she probably does feel guilty for what she did...but she can't take it back and burnt that bridge...so Chloe relying on being mean to try to feel a sense of control.
Pretending like she chose to be mean again on her own makes sense.
even more as a contrasting cry for help because Mari had others who would try to reach out to her where we got to see she was covering up her really issues and stress of her guilt of the loss of master fu. while Chloe was able to push everyone away and no one realized Chloe's actions were a cry for help.....
like, on one hand people have to face consequences for their choices...but on the other the show has spent the whole time reminding us that the people acting out are victims and the true villains are the ones who take advantage of their hurt to lead them into further bad actions...which could lead to people not seeing they need help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
why the hell is the show expecting me to hate Chloe and see her as irredeemable when her downfall was a direct plan by Gabriel/hawkmoth and Lila?! like I can understand believing she should know better but she KNOWS no one likes her which means she is vulnerable to emotional manipulation! and she was cornered into that big downfall she thinks she can't come back from since she failed the one person who had given her a chance.
Tumblr media
she literally got replaced by her sister Zoey who everyone liked better and who found being nice easy to understand compared to Chloe who struggled and who's best progress came from trying to not disappointed Adrien and her teddy bear!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
even more her father was the worst! he's racist, spoils Chloe but never gives her real attention/guidance and her mother literally hates her, thinks she's useless, forgets her name and bad talks her all the time and they going to stick Chloe with her mom who was the literally worst?
Tumblr media
what's even more frustrating is while I could understand it being a 'this is what happens if you don't take the chances to change since it's not other people's jobs to fix you' it undercuts alot of lessons in previous episodes if Chloe is completely unredeemable!

"Do you still think it was worth it?" Nathalie manages to wheeze out.
Gabriel groans. She wonders whether he's past speech. It wouldn't be a surprise in his condition.
She turns her head to look at him, avoiding the stump where his hand had still been the last time she'd seen him before she woke up in this room to Ladybug's stern expression.
Chat Noir- Adrien hadn't been there. Perhaps that's no surprise he hadn't been happy to find out the truth; raging at her and Emilie.
She wished they'd had a chance to talk it out before the heroes reversed Gabriel's Wish. That Chrysalis hadn't forced their hands.
She hopes Adrien has the Butterfly now. That he can rest with no new enemy to fight. That he'll be safe. That Amelie will take care of him now.
There's nothing she can do about it.
She's dying.
She's almost surprised she's not already dead. She had been before the Wish she'd throught.
Gabriel's eyes open and she looks into that once-familar silver. It's strange seeing him again after so long. A distingrating man displacing the her memories of him so alive.
She's not used to seeing him like this, eyes glazed whether by the pain or the drugs nurses have adminstered to help with that she's not sure.
It's kind of Ladybug to have brought them to a hospital to ease their passing she supposes.
There's nothing left in her these days to hate the heroine with. Or Gabriel really either.
It had been a nice world for her, the one he'd wished into existence.
"Na," Gabriel moans.
"I'm here," she answers, feeling silly when she's not sure he even means her, or that he can hear the hoarse whisper that's all she can manage.
"Failed," he manages clearly this time.
"Yes, Ladybug reversed the Wish."
"Wha-sit nice?" Gabriel's eyelid drag shut, "Wish."
"It was. Apart from the Villain. And the cost of you saving me as well as Emilie. That's why they had to reverse it, you know. You shouldn't of saved both of us."
Gabriel just grunts.
"Why did you save me?"
"Love you."
Nathalie stares at him but Gabriel says nothing more. He's still and silent and he could be dead and she hasn't the strengh to get out of this bed to find out.
There's no way to know if he understood her, if he knew who he was talking to, if he meant it, or how he meant it.
And if he did they she's not sure it means anything even. There's nothing they can do stuck dying in the aftermath of their mistakes.

I always felt the way Gabriel got the miraculouses (peacock and butterfly) was very… underwhelming, to certain extent
The idea of him hiring someone to find them and going on a epic quest is kinda good, but I also expected something more. What if Gabriel hired someone very dangerous like a kind of Evil organization which wanted to exploit the power of the miraculouses or at least a evil organization which only got the grasp of the miraculous after making a deal with the agreste since they promised a lot of money, and at the end they saw the great powers of the miraculous and said “maybe I want more for this deal”, Nathalie could still be the ones who helped find them like a retired member of said organization. Imagine if after Gabriel was defeated in like season 3, the leader of said organization appeared asking for the miraculouses since he’s deal with Gabriel was to get Akumas to make weapons with in exchange of keeping the secret of Gabriel having the miraculouses, and when the villain arrives he takes Gabriel’s place has the ‘big bad’ by changing the Akumas with Robots or something similar. It would connect with the past events, making it feel like the universe is more grounded and actions have consequences (I always love when details which could be look over like “how did this war between humans and monsters start?” Get fleshed out to explain a future threat like “oh it was the fault of this man which manipulated both sides so he could gain ultimate power”, but miraculous always takes this concepts like the ‘what destroyed the order of the guardians’ or ‘what broke the peacock’ and then proceeds to give the most simple and boring answer to return to the status quo)
But something so crucial has “the way Gabriel found the miraculouses” feels very unimportant, that adds nothing to Nathalie’s character, Heck it even makes her even less interesting to me.
I always saw this small parallel between Marinette and Nathalie (fell in love with this rich boy and did everything for them in blind love) and then it results the way Nathalie and Gabriel meet was when Gabriel was married and searching for magical jewels to impregnate he’s wife. Why Nathalie fell in love with Gabriel? I always thought they were childhood friends to parallel Adrien’s and Marinette’s relationship in earlier seasons, but current seasons make Nathalie slightly interesting and deep, but kinda take away what kinda made me interest even in the slightest on the character, specially when Gabriel became a Abusive father all of the sudden which turned their relationship also suddenly into the joker and Harley Quinn and just because she surpassed the Harley Quinn syndrome doesn’t mean she became more of a endearing character (mainly because she didn’t do much or actually tried to stop Gabriel outside of a couple scenes which didn’t actually add nothing to the plot), specially since the appeal to me was how Gabriel didn’t want Nathalie to risk herself, a lot of people say Gabriel was abusive but at first (before Gabriel became a psycho) Nathalie did brought herself a lot of pain when Gabriel openly asked her not to do that (heck, 70% of the time she was Mayura is because of her own choice against Gabriel’s wishes. Until suddenly Gabriel stopped acting like a character with deep who cared for her like showed before, and actually asked her to use it which completely contradicts heroes day part 2. So this ’abusive to Nathalie’ Gabriel was a mix of character assassination for both)
I just feel how Nathalie wasn’t handled well, and the way Gabriel got the miraculouses wasn’t very climatic or even interesting since we don’t even know very well how Gabriel even discovered the existence of this jewels
I don't really expect a big flashback episode, but if this backstory is something you're using to build the entire show's conflict on, I'd at least expect more than "Kid Fu broke the Peacock Miraculous, lost it and the Butterfly, and then they were found by Gabriel and Nathalie a long time later".
Then again, this is the same show that decided to put the scene showing why Gabriel decided to become Hawkmoth in the video game of all things. Believe me, when I get the time to cover that, I'll have a lot to say about that decision.
