Dean is such a paradox for me because on the one hand, I have been actively triggered by him in the show, there are moments where, intentionally or not, the writers managed to create a portrayal of manipulation and abuse and control issues that it sets off actual alarms for me. And on the other hand, I would not have him any other way. There is something — not comforting, that’s too soft a word — about knowing where Dean’s actions stem from, having seen and learned all that we do about his childhood neglect and parentification and the trauma he goes through repeatedly in the show, and that he doesn’t come out clean. He comes out a goddamn mess who ends up hurting the people around him in reaction to his own pain!
There’s a reality there that’s. Almost nice, actually. Distressing to watch, but it is a fucking mess, it’s a good mess! He’s got zero healthy coping skills and a healthy relationship with say, his brother, is terrifying because it leaves him open to abandonment!
I’m not sure I’m wording this correctly. There is a way to be a good abuse victim. Take the pain, martyr yourself on it, and then, even if you have no support or idea how to, then you have to become a Good Person who never hurts anyone the way you have been learning to your entire life. Simply toss everything that shaped you out the door and emerge a saint with a tragic backstory. And Dean is not that. And that’s so fucking good. Everything that he has gone through continues to effect the way he treats the people around him, and he can’t fight the behaviors he might recognize as harmful because he also sees them as protecting him (or protecting Sam by keeping Sam with him.)
And sometimes, idk. It feels good to see a guy who didn’t heal the “right way.” Who mostly didn’t heal at all, just keeps the wound open because it’s easier that way.

Explain what you said on Twitter
assuming that you're talking about when i said that imo the conversations around "scully, you're making this personal" aren't aligned with the intent/impact of the scene (actually i think what i said was that the scene is very serious but y'all never talk about what's serious about it so you loop back around to being unserious) and tbh i can do a post on my own feelings about the scene sometime when i'm feeling more with it if y'all want but i just meant that people bitch about that line every single day talking about how it's hypocritical and how infuriating it is and how much you hate mulder in s6 etc etc but i literally never see anyone even think about like...the actual meaning of the scene and implications of the line and the context and where they're each coming from. it's all just a very shallow and reactionary discussion in my experience
(i ended up talking more in the tags lol i never shut up in the tags)

Also making this about how techno would be disappointed like that's some gotcha is fucking weird, wilbur should be ashamed because he abused his ex girlfriend and manipulated and/or abused his female and teenage friends not that techno would be upset, it's devastating knowing that techno died being friends with several abusers and we're all upset about the state of SBI but fucking hell this isn't even REMOTELY about Techno, get a fucking grip

something i think people forget about aaron is that not only is he a d1 athlete for a sport with a massive fan base, but he's also a pre-med student. like i cannot even imagine the amount of pressure on him before the yakuza/mafia got involved. and then the yakuza... omg... this poor guy can't catch a break

The way that Stede treated Izzy during episode 3 were some of the ONLY times I could stand seeing Izzy on screen so far this season because it finally felt like someone who recognized him and was treating him rationally tbh
I adore this show and the people who worked on it, but ffs, it feels like they all enjoyed Con too much and the Izzy-Enjoyers Fanon of his character last season and jumped the gun on his redemption arc.
I'm going to go through and explain this more, but I just wanted to put that out there first while I lay out why Stede's expressions and reactions make so much more sense coming out of season 1's events.

mannnn i saw a post on reddit that made me upset... OP found out her boyfriend of 4 years had been diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder years ago, and then OP confronts him and like. demands that he prove he really loves her and isnt lying, and implies that hes probably planning to hurt her (esp fucked up because his dad murdered his mom when he was young), and says shes scared of him and asks him to move out of HIS house so she can stay there while she debates if she still wants to be in this relationship
idk it just bummed me out!!!! especially since so many of the comments were talking about how OP really dodged a bullet because he was probably gonna hurt her one of these days because hes a psychopath and incapable of love, and it just... made me so sad. this guy hadnt done anything wrong other than have a highly stigmatized disorder! and like... i mean nobody is obligated to stay in a relationship they're not happy in for any reason, and i know there are people who have experienced genuine harm from people who have these highly stigmatized disorders, but like... so whats the end goal here? everyone who has ASPD should be denied all care and affection because It's Too Dangerous? We just put them all on an island because theyve got Brain That Makes You Evil??? that can't POSSIBLY be right!!
