Happy Lucia Day! 

December 13th in Denmark is celebrated by children in white robes and carrying candles, walking in line while singing the praise of Saint Lucia. A tradition about the symbolism of spreading warmth and light through the darkness and cold of winter.

I loved this show when I was little, so here I am making a sims 4 challenge since there isn't one already.

Today, Scandinavia and Italy celebrate an italian martyr known as Saint Lucy (or Saint Lucia) who is said to have blinded herself but was given her sight back by god. When burnt at the stake she was not wounded but was eventually killed with a sword. Although in modern times portrayed as a saint wearing a candle lit wreath, many accounts (from the middle ages and even into the late 1900’s) describe Lucy to be a witch, an evil spirit or a leader of spirits. December 13th is the feast day of St. Lucia of Syracuse, patron saint of the blind, who was said to maintain her sight after losing her eyes. Some say they were taken as part of her martyrdom torture. Others say that Lucia, wanting to remain single and serve the less fortunate, gouged them out herself and gave them to the man she was once engaged to as a parting gift because he found them so beautiful. In Sweden, St. Lucia is portrayed by young girls in white dresses with red sashes and candle crowns worn on the head head. She's also honored with these, St. Lucia buns! The recipe I used is from "Kirsten's Cookbook: A Peek at Dining in the Past with Meals You Can Prepare Today" from The American Girls' Collection. Kirsten Larson and her family moved from Sweden to Minnesota in the 1840s. I didn't read her series as a kid, but I did when I was older and started to get into my Swedish heritage. Saint Lucia or Lucy was a 3rd C. Italian martyr who brought the light of faith, hope, and charity to the poor and Christians in the darkness of the catacombs. Tradition has it that during a terrible famine in Sweden a beautiful girl with a glow about her head, came to shore bringing food, saving the Swedes from starvation. On December 13th, St. Lucy's Day, the eldest daughter wakes the household, bringing St. Lucia buns and coffee, wearing a lighted wreath on her head, a white gown, with a red sash, representing baptism and martyrdom.

I don’t know the story except that the red satin ribbon around the waist is supposed to symbolise blood - and I’ve always, since I learned of Mello’s birthday, associated him with this tradition.  anyway... this took forever to paint.
