STATUS: LITERALLY ALWAYS ACCEPTING

Thiefshipping: I don’t like this ship. I’ve had some very bad experiences with it that have all but ruined it for me. Also, I don’t think a lot of people really GET these two right when they’re together. It’s...a personal preference, but I just really don’t care for it.

Yamishipping: This is all three of the nerd bois right? I can’t imagine Atem just being like oh yes, let’s all just live together happily ever after and not worry about the fact you tried to destroy literally everything I loved. although I mean my Atem at least is always interested in the villians so like..maybe it would work? Who knows. I don’t hate it, and it could be fun to explore but I feel like someone would end up dead.

Mai and Yugi? Dude yes. I love it. First off tall woman short guy is my JAM. Also I just think that Yuugi and Mai would totally get along. Mai would see past Yuugi trying to tell everyone he was okay and Yuugi would really value Mai and remind her how amazing she is. So yes. GOOD SHIP!

Puzzleship (any and all atem/Yugi ship names) This is hilarious (As an atem muse), but I’m only a fan of this if it’s not all sunshine and roses. Atem left Yuugi. And even if Yuugi claims to be okay, like how would it feel if you had someone in your head and SOUL and suddenly SILENCE. I just don’t think you come out of it unscathed. So I will ship Puzzleshipping IF we can do the angsty route.

Malik&Ymalik? This has so much potential. I just really like anything with YM because there is so much about him to explore. What is YM motivation. How will they work through the fact that Malik killed his father because of YM. Like...ugh glorious angst man.

Klance? RIVALS YOU SAY??? RIVALS?! I love Keith and Lance. I think that there were some very good scenes that support the idea it could have happened in canon. ALso just. I mean come on. The mutual pining the miscommunication? It’s just a mess and I love it. Not to mention Lance’s big gay crisis he gets to have when he realizes he has a thing for Keith!

Hunk and lance? The most WHOLESOME of ships. I fucking LOVE HANCE. it’s so sweet and Lance just feels like he’s not good enough for Hunk even after he has his bi disaster moment. And Hunk just loves Lance SO MUCH man.

Pidge and lance: Plance is cute. But I honestly just see them as partners in crime. I think that it’s much more of a sibling thing than anything else with these two. But like platonic cuddles and late night talks with sleep overs and trying to figure out new and inventive ways to prank Shiro and Keith? I’ll take it!

Shiro and Allura? Ah the pair that should have been. Don’t get me wrong. I AM ALL FOR ADAM AND SHIRO, but like...It just seemed like Shiro and Allura had a thing...or could have had a thing, so I love when people explore that. Is sure as hell made more sense than Allura and Lance in the end...

Allura and keith? BWAHAHAH. I can’t imagine this. I think it’s just...they hardly talk in canon. Like...They do the thing where they both sneak off the ship and then like...They’re just awkward. Maybe post canon with a lot of work it might work out.

Mai&joey? I dunno maybe because it so overly done, but I don’t really care for it. I was actually pretty glad when it didn’t really happen in canon because it was just so cliche? I dunno I just felt like Mai also needed to work through her own shit before she got together with anyone? I mean Jou too if we’re being honest. It was a ship made to fail imho. Post canon? After some work? Yeah I think that would maybe work out better.

-What the hell was I on in September and how do I get my hands on it again XD I went fucking insane that month doing Sapphic September twice over + a ship week. YIKES. But also like, NEVER AGAIN, I remember I was so burned out halfway through Kinktober after that and struggled to finish kinktober’s list, then I went offline for a few months and didn’t write for just as long, but also some real life shit was going down so it’s all blurred together XD

-Aaaah, look at all them rarepairs, I do so love my rares!

-Still kinda bummed that S8 killed my VLD buzz cos writing for that fandom was so much fun and I miss it, I was gonna try get back into it this year, but then found out that even previously non-toxic corners of the fandom are toxic now and nope, killed my buzz all over again.

-STILL NO BBC MERLIN?!?!?! omg was 2017 really the last time I wrote for that fandom??????? Also no Star Trek, I really thought 2018 was the year I wrote that but I guess my memory is still shit XD must have been 2017 wow, but at least there’s still new fandoms for when I get around to making a 2017/2016 list XD which will luckily be smaller cos I wrote fewer but longer fics in 2016/2017

-Overall, like 2019, 2018 was a bad year for me in terms of word count. I guess it was the beginning of my health really affecting my ability to write and my shift to accommodate for that by writing shorter things instead of trying and failing to write long fics like I used to (altho actually I think that started in 2017 really, guess I need to make the list to see XD). I’m still pretty proud though, cos I always wanted to write more sapphic content and doing sapphic september was something I didn’t think I’d manage but I did it 2x over =) and then off the heels of that success, I did Femslash Feb for HP in 2019 and some of Sapphic Sept 2019 too

-Kinktober was also super fun, even though I was a big ball of anxiety the whole time and burning out pretty badly after September. But I really got outside of my comfort zone to write several things I not only hadn’t written before, but also don’t even personally like XD I wrote a couple of my squicks and that was an interesting experience. I also gained a few new kinks, also an interesting experience XD

An even break / 1,550 words / klance / The paladins land on a planet that has snow and there’s a snowball fight.

And, action! / 106,500 words / 17 chapters / klance (there is background shallura) / This is the wrong number + confession fic that I wrote back in 2016. Keith gets a call from a movie star and fake dating ensues. Lots of fluff and angst (recently edited the whole thing so !!!)

Sheith was an excellent ship whose foundations were built on fondness and a basic -but powerful- need to protect each other.

Klance was a ship that could have shown the natural and tender way that love can blossom in unlikely places, even between adversaries.

Allurance, although poorly executed and short-lived in canon, could have made for an exemplary relationship; the boy, who often isn't sure of himself, has no doubt in his mind that his love interest is one of the strongest, most amazing and compassionate people to have ever graced this universe, which in turn drives him to be better, too.

Lotura, a bittersweet ship between two people who have lost everything and must learn to grow and adapt to living with the weight of that pain and grief. An inquisitive mind joined by a powerful heart, both wanting more than anything to simply heal the universe.

Hance, Plance, Uliro, etc...all great ships!! And DreamWorks didn't stick with any of them for the end!! And the only ones they did stick with lasted for a whole episode before one of the members of said relationship died! The only canon relationship we got for our main cast that didn't end in death was Shiro/Curtis, which we got to see a grand ten seconds of!

In other words, I'm going to be mad about this until I'm lowered into my grave!!!!

Why you and your friend so condemn the ship Allurance? You say it was bad 4 them but this is not so. Yes Allura loved Lotor. But damn it if your boyfriend died/left you but your friend came with "I love you" when you suffer from loneliness. You will try 2 start over. That's not bad. You will try 2 love again. Lance and Allura were not unhappy to love each other 4 a short time. And Lance doesn't seem broken at the end. He experienced love. And he will live with love in his heart and move on.

It’s personal for me - I just can’t see these two together, I don’t mind ppl liking them but I don’t understand them. I understand where Sheith came from, where Plance came from but with this I experience no chemistry. Maybe because for me they’re like Ron Weasley and Fleur Delacour - Ron was crushing on Fleur from the very beginning but that wasn’t smth he needed and for Fleur he was nothing more than a friend. With Allurance it’s just the same. While she acknowledged Lance is in love with her and not just crushing - she still went to Lotor and stayed with him. She was always emotional about Lotor - whether it was love or hate, but Lance became just some kind of rebound for her and just someone she suddenly decided to hang out with because she wanted to forget her ex.

She loved Lotor and she has a potential with Lotor. With Lance she has almost nothing - they’re from different worlds and it’s not their fault it doesn’t mean someone of them is worse, they’re just different. They age differently, act differently, they have different goals in life, different principles, visions and stuff. And I would understand if Lotor was a cruel abuser and completely lost asshole but he is not! He was someone who needed redemption, who needed love and had the same life goals as Allura and jeez he just needed Allura! And Allura wanted happiness for her people, wanted to continue what her family started. Lance from the very beginning didn’t want anything of this, he never wanted to be a king, never wanted to reign. He just wanted to fly and become someone significant. From the very beginning he saw a trophey in Allura and then I didn’t notice anything that seemed to have an affection on him. Allura saw a friend in him and continue to see only a friend even when she tried to move on from Lotor.

Yes they have moments together, maybe Lance’s family would help Allura to not feel so lonely but all of their moments were nothing but friendship for me. I personally never understood this ship and I can’t, they’re just different for me completely. I saw a lot of drawings with them with kids and it always made me feel strange because I’m not even sure they’re able to have kids together. Lance ages faster than Allura and that’s the reason why this relationship would become painful for both of them. Plus I can’t imagine Lance as King of Altea and Allura as some kind of garrison officer near Lance. Allura needs Altea, Lance needs Earth. That’s simple for me.

As I said I don’t mind Allurance, I don’t hate people loving them together, but for me it just doesn’t work. I see Plance working better, Klance working better, Shance working better or Hance, but not Allurance. Just a void instead of chemistry and I can do nothing for it.

P.S as an experience it works but not as endgame for me.

“You’re not dumb.”

The words hung in the air, heavy with conviction and at the same time a plea, a wish, a desperate hope that the recipient believed them.

Lance did not react, his head remaining stationary on his upturned knees while his arms hugged about them, making a pitiful image next to the dying remains of their campfire.

“Lance--”

“I know.”

Lance’s tone was sharp and dull and bitter all at once. This close, even in the barely there glow, Hunk could make out the faintest sheen on dark lashes before Lance angled his head, pressing his face fully into his knee.

“I know,” he repeated, muffled.

Hunk didn’t believe it for a second.

He joined his best friend on the bumpy ground, settling himself into a cross-legged sit and throwing a handful of loose kindling onto the fire.

Lance had been quiet all day since their “visit” to Bob’s game show, not even cracking a smile when Hunk and Coran had together concocted a sort of s’more or offering up a complaint when Keith ordered them all to jog the perimeter of their camp for the night (which, despite knowing the training and exercise were good after being cooped up all day in the Lions, Lance normally dramatically protested before doing it anyways).

Hunk had a feeling he knew why and his stomach curdled.

Garfle Warfle Snick had been all anyone could talk about at the group dinner as Coran had demanded details of the legendary encounter and the team had been full of laughs in describing the faux-Galrans and Keith’s drawing abilities and Lance’s bi-boh-bi-ing and the shenanigans of the set.

But Lance had not been smiling. Not really. He’d bared his teeth in a false version of one, laughed at himself when Pidge ribbed him about not knowing any of their allies’ names, and had weakly chuckled when it came around that he’d been chosen to “escape” because Keith didn’t want to be stuck for him with eternity.

It took a few pointed looks and subtle shoves from Hunk and then surprisingly Keith, purple eyes narrowed in thought, for them to move on from the topic and instead they got Coran telling one of his stories about the Paladins of old that then had Krolia one-upping him with a Blade mission and the two of them went back and forth for a good varga with a seemingly entranced audience.

And they all probably would have been except for the fact that Lance… Lance was not partaking in it. He instead had his head propped up as he was now, firelight dancing across his face but his eyes not seeing it.

When Lance had excused himself to feed Kaltenecker and get her settled for the evening, Hunk had been a little surprised when he found himself the attention of a bunch of concerned and confused gazes.

He’d quietly told them his suspicions and had watched as Allura’s expression had shuttered and Pidge sucked in a harsh breath, guilt flashing across her features. Keith’s lips had thinned into a line and he’d looked to Hunk and he could see an apology on his lips.

But it wasn’t he who needed an apology for being laughed at. He more than understood how it felt to be the butt of a joke, to be laughed at, but even with his stint as “Humorous Hunk” in the Voltron Show he’d known still then (mostly) that it had been an act.

Lance did not have that.

He instead had a history of kids teasing him as he learned how to speak English, of teachers belittling him as he struggled to understand more complex math and science formulas, of instructors telling him he was only in the fighter program because of a drop out.

Lance had been told his whole life he wasn’t smart enough, not good enough. And he was. Lance was smart. He was people smart; he understood them in ways Hunk envied. He saw things about others; he read emotions and intentions. He was tactical and a great leader and reflexive and could change direction on a dime and make those quick-second decisions that Hunk knew he’d be agonizing over still a day later.

But those things didn’t matter, not to Lance. Not when he was so used to being compared to others not on his strengths but his “weaknesses” and finding himself wanting.

And now…

Now he’d had to suffer that all again, repeatedly called dumb, called “the stupid one,” and had Hunk not been so overwhelmed by all that was happening at the time of the show he’d have nipped that in the bud (or, tried to) before Lance had been repeatedly humiliated when he heard the quiet, disbelieving and now realized hurt tone of Lance asking for clarification if the host meant him.

Hunk felt like the stupid one.

He had to try and fix it, somehow.

He’d told the others as such, knowing the last thing Lance would want to do is feel cornered, even if this was a positive intervention. They’d all reluctantly agreed to let Hunk handle it, Shiro quietly telling him, “he knew best,” and had retired not long after to their sleeping arrangements, Keith noting he’d be up in five varga for a watch change.

And now here they were and Hunk’s more blunt approach -- no way for Lance to dodge it, to laugh it off, to weakly protest he didn’t know what Hunk was talking about -- had not quite gone as well as he’d hoped.

He should have known it would not be that easy.

Lance rolled his head free a moment later, smeared tear tracks down his cheek, and kept his eyes averted towards the fire.

Hunk’s heart broke.

“Shouldn’t you be sleeping?” Lance asked quietly after a pause, no judgment in the question but only a sort of tiredness that Hunk recognized. It was the tone he took when even a hug couldn’t make him feel better, when he didn’t want to burden another with whatever was troubling him.

He wanted Hunk to leave.

He was going to have to do a lot better than that.

“Nope.”

Lance finally looked his way then, a crease of confusion to his brow.

“I can’t sleep,” Hunk admitted and that had Lance sitting up although he remained curled over his knees. “Not when I know you’re upset.”

Lance turned back to the fire. “I’m not upset.”

Hunk didn’t bother that with a response.

“I’m not,” Lance insisted in the growing quiet. “I’m…” His hands tightened around his legs, knuckles turning white. “I just…” He let out a soft sigh. “I thought… I thought things were different now. Guess not, huh? I’ll always be the dumb, stupid one no matter what.”

“Lance--”

“It’s fine,” Lance cut in, hunching further over.

“It’s not,” Hunk retorted sharply. “It’s not fine, Lance,” he lowered his voice. “And you are not dumb or stupid or any of that. That was a stupid game show and a stupider host. Don’t listen to anything he said. He was wrong.”

“Keith doesn’t think so.”

Lance flinched as soon as the words were out of his mouth, clearly not meaning to say them. Hunk’s eyes narrowed and his, “What?” came out flatter than he’d ever heard himself speak.

Lance flushed. “I… forget that.”

“Like hell,” Hunk snapped, and the curse felt as foreign on his tongue as it apparently sounded to Lance as dark blue eyes shot over to him, widened in shock. “What did Keith say?”

Hunk had thought the two of them had reached an understanding. He’d have have to be blind to not see the way Keith implicitly trusted Lance to have their backs, to be his second in command. Although the two of them still exchanged insults and barbs Hunk had thought at this point it was mostly out of habit, in jest.

He’d thought the two of them had become friends but…

“You heard him too,” Lance said quietly, barely a whisper. “He picked me to get out so he wouldn’t be stuck with me.” His words began to become quicker, higher. “So the four of you would be there and you guys are all so smart and you’d figure a way out, I know it, while I would just hold everyone back because I can’t contribute anything because I am the stupid one and the host was right and I am dumb and I wouldn’t want to be stuck with me for eternity either.”

“You’re not the stupid one. I am.”

Hunk barely contained his yelp of surprise as Keith sounded above him and Lance stiffened next to him, even moreso as Keith dropped down on Lance’s other side.

“Keith,” Hunk protested weakly, eyes flicking between Lance’s bowed head and clenched jaw and Keith’s resolute stare.

“I need to say this,” Keith said. He reached out a finger, let it hover in the air for a second, and then firmly poked Lance in the shoulder, who curled away from it as though somehow expecting something worse. “Listen,” Keith commanded, voice low but strong all the same.

Lance didn’t say anything but Hunk could see that Keith did have his attention, his head turned ever so.

“I’m not good at talking about things,” Keith said. “I have… have trouble talking about my feelings. And what I said during that stupid show… that was wrong of me. And stupid. Really stupid. But I…” A flush was creeping up the back of Keith’s neck, embarrassment and awkwardness warring, but he grit his teeth and continued.

Hunk felt something uncoil inside him at the display. Keith had really grown up.

“I don’t take back my pick,” he continued. “You’re who I would want to get out of there, Lance. And it’s not because of what I said. It’s… you called me the future but you’re wrong.” Lance winced and Keith plowed on. “You are. The future. You… You bring people together, Lance. You make them care. You are the one who has the best chance to unite the universe in this fight. That is why I picked you.”

“Keith,” Lance murmured, picking his head up fully. “You…”

Hunk chuckled as Lance launched himself sideways at Keith, wrapping his arms tightly about the now ramrod form.

“Er, okay, we’re hugging now,” Keith muttered, lifting his arms up and tentatively patting Lance on his back.

“That’s not a proper hug, Keith,” Hunk advised, scooching over and wrapping his arms around both of them and squeezing so hard Lance gave a little squeak. “This is.”

Lance relaxed almost bonelessly in the embrace. “Thank you,” he whispered, voice thick.

“None of that,” Hunk chided. “There’s nothing to thank us for. Just do one thing for me instead, okay?”

He could feel Lance’s head tilt against his arm.

“Believe us when we tell you that you are not stupid or dumb. Believe us instead we we say you are smart and kind and one of the most amazing people that exists in this world. Got it?”

“Hunk…”

“What he said,” Keith put in, earning a wet laugh from Lance.

“Okay,” Lance agreed quietly, tones soft but sincere and the earlier melancholy gone. “Okay.”

Hunk let out a contented sigh and squeezed both Lance and Keith tighter.

Things were going to be more than okay indeed.

Unpopular Opinion: I enjoyed season 8

So first, I’m mostly doing this to sort out my own feelings, but I DO think there are some things worth considering here.

To be clear, Enjoying something and thinking that something was perfect are different. I enjoy plenty of things that are garbage and I do think this season had it’s fair share of flaws, but it’s not nearly as awful as some of ya’ll are ripping into it over. In addition, regardless of if it is bad or not harassment of the creators is never justified. EVER. So if you feel the need to take out your frustrations on the cast/crew stop what you are doing then DON’T.

Why I was able to enjoy it:

Three major things I always keep in mind going into a new season:

1. Don’t watch it FOR the ship, enjoy the show for what it is. I think the primary thing that has allowed me to enjoy each season is I try to watch it without shipping goggles. At the end of the day, shipping is fun but it is for fandom and not the reason I’m watching the show, especially a show made for 7 year old boys.

2. I (along with most of the fandom on this website) am not the target audience for this show. Voltron may be an abnormally good kids show, but it is still a kids show. I have never walked into a season thinking that it is content made for me, and the things that are important to me just aren’t important enough to 7 year olds to have the time I want spent on them. I have to be okay with that because as much as I would love to have a whole episode of Shiro really struggling with what it means to be a leader, and the weight of Adam’s sacrifice, the 7 year old this show was made for is going to be bored shitless and decide “I don’t want that Voltron toy for my birthday after all.” So yeah, that is going to change the choices the crew makes when they create these episodes.

3. This is a reboot. Several different companies have BIG stakes in Voltron. Things like LGBT rep are only going to go as far as ONE important old white man who thinks (insert your fave here) is straight. Anybody who has followed me for more than 3 seconds knows I ship Sheith, but knowing how the entertainment industry works changed how I thought the direction of the series was going from day one. If it was so hard for them to get even ambiguous ‘Takashi, how much do I mean to you’ when both Shiro and Adam are legally original characters, there is NO WAY the powers that be will allow them to gay up big names in the franchise like Keith or Lance. For that reason I never expected a canon gay relationship between any of the main characters. No Sheith, no Klance, no Pallura, no Hance. I do believe it was important to the creators and they did they absolute best with what they had, but ultimately it was not their decision and a lot of ya’ll need to stop acting like you are performing some kind of holy service by harassing them about it. They did their jobs as best they could and the fandom was pressuring them the whole time to make promises they didn’t know if they could keep.

For these reasons I was able to enjoy the new season for what it was: a reboot aimed toward children that I shouldn’t expect a primary romantic plot out of. And honestly? Thats what I got. The only big romantic plot revolved around Lance and Allura and even that was only a handful of scenes. I think the main problem with this fandom has always been people putting unrealistic expectations on a show that wasn’t aimed at them. Why people chose to put all of their expectation eggs in the Voltron basket specifically is beyond me, and frankly a bit unfair to the people who made it. But we don’t have to get into that right now.

Things that I enjoyed:

1. Hunk is best boy. I loved his and Lance's friendship shining through and when he turned into team mom. Some highlight include: “It’s happening tonight, young man!” “I’m sorry I yelled at you. I’ll make you dog treats later.” When he made that Altean dessert because he is so sweet and knows how to bring people together. What a star, what a diplomat, what a fine, fine man. 2. BaBy LoToR 3. Seeing all the paladins in their under armor. I would feel robbed because Shiro was left out but the entire series has been Shiro fan service so I’m not even mad. 4. VERONICA AND AXCA BONDING? NICE. Didn’t expect to ship them? I do. Nice. 5. Everything about Day Fourty-Seven. A filler episode I genuinely enjoyed. MY only wish is we could have gotten Keith and Krolia in an interview together and she went out of her way to embarrass him like “while we were in the Quantum Abyss-” “Mom, why are you doing this to me?” “I have 20 years of Mothering to catch up on, young man.” 6. Shiro feeling like a bad ass and looking cool during the arm wrestling competition. What a good. 7. This was really Allura’s season, wow, what a queen. 8. Keith giving Lance a bunch of pep talks and opening up to become not only a good leader but a good friend. 9. Keith YELLING at the Zarkon mech because he had leadership responsibility feels. 10. I did not expect to have FEELINGS over seeing young Zarkon. 11. Honerva’s motivations were honestly....so honest. So realistically human, you know? It seems so fitting that this whole thing began with a rift into another reality, and a broken family. And it ended with a rift into another reality, and that family finally being able to be at peace. That is the theme that has been following us form the beginning: family. And even the final villain just wanted to fix the damage that had been done to hers. Though I do feel like her turnaround was a little quick, I can forgive it for kinds show reasons. 12. Allura getting to hug Alfor again. 13. Lance getting the stamp of approval from the dad. 14. Speaking of which, even I thought the Allurance scenes were pretty cute despite not being a huge fan of the ship. 15. The character development that is evident. If you compare all these characters to who they were in E1S1 they are all vastly different. The only exception to this is Coran, though I do feel like Allura’s is mostly internal and she has a way of conducting herself that can make it difficult to perceive. 16. I am VERY SAD about Allura dying...but you know what? I think this ending actually suited her. I don’t think she would be satisfied withotu making a grand reality wide sacrifice. She restored Altea, and returned into the fabric of space-time itself with her family. This has been being foreshadowed since Season 1 to be honest. She is always taking risks and wanting to keep moving and bettering things. She is perfect and we don’t deserve her and in my heart she is the goddess of reality itself. 17. The scene where the lions all came to life and flew away, and then that lovely art of them going into the rift. I really think they went back to Allura, and the next time the Universe needs Voltron, it will be her spirit leading the way. And honestly? I don’t think she would want it any other way. 18. The MFE Pilots grew on me... 19. MMMMMBIG ROBOT PRETTY 20. We got Shiro and the rest of the paladins piloting all together again. 21. ALMOST Galra Emperor Keith.

The things I didn’t think were great:

1. What the fuck happened to Ezor’s voice? She only said one word and I thought she was dying? 2. Keith and Shiro like...didn’t even talk. And even without shipping goggles that just seems wrong to me. Their bond has been one of the points the story has turned on. We got all the build up but none of the payoff. No shoulder touches, no ‘I’m proud of you, Keith’, none of the usual friendship or dynamic they usually have with each other. It felt kind of empty honestly :( And whats more is...Keith has been sacrificing and fighting and loving Shiro for 7 seasons now, and Shiro never got to repay him. Like he wasn’t in his hospital room when he woke up and nobody can fucking tell me when Shiro said “spend time with the people you love” Keith wouldn’t be spending time with Shiro. It just....feels so dissatisfying to see one of the major emotional bonds in the show not even be acknowledged in the end. It makes everything Keith worked for feel...not...there. Like what did all that mean in the end? As many times as it takes but he gives and gives and gives and the only one who returns what he gives is Krolia. It used to be Shiro returned it too, but now... Even without it being romantic, their relationship was done a dirty. I didn’t need canon Sheith I just needed some kind of acknowledgement that all the suffering they endured was worth it. I wanted to see them happy. 3. Despite what I said above I am sad Allura is gone. 4. Shiro was hardly in the season at all actually :((((((((((((((((((( 5. Yeah, as cute as the scenes were I’ve never felt Allura and Lance have a chemistry that makes their relationship sit well with me. But I guess it was necessary to show how Lance has matured as a person. I always thought they have the POTENTIAL for chemistry but it’s always fallen short for me. Allura just takes her life too seriously and her walls never actually came down enough for me to see a connection there. 6. James and Keith never like...talked? I would have liked for them to have had a reconciliation like Keith and Lance did. 7. Lack of Krolia. 8. Something was off about Kolivan’s voice 9. TBH, I feel like The real fulfillment for Keith’s arc would have been his teammates encouraging and lifting him up as well. Display his emotional availability which was completely closed off at the start. I feel like they may have just dropped the ball on a couple of character’s arc resolution but...eh. You gotta pick and choose what to focus on when you have an ensemble cast, and 7 year olds just aren’t always interested in that. 10. Woulda been nice to get a bit more detail on the nature of the rift creatures and some more clarity for a through line from the beginning thousands of Years ago to now. Along with that exactly what kind of entity IS Voltron itself? A lot of seeds planted that made a half attempt at being resolved but weren’t quite clear enough to create something cohesive. 11. I can’t put my finger on why but overall it just feels...Incomplete. Like there is still a pit in my stomach that doesn’t feel satisfied by the ending. I’m not sure how much of that is the season itself, and how much is I’ve been involved in this show for nearly 2 years and it’s hard to let go, especially on something that doesn’t quite feel like going out with a bang.

Highly unpopular opinion in my neck of the woods:

That wedding at the end? I’m happy about it. Do I think its bad writing to marry off one of your main five to a rando we don’t even know the name of? Yes. Am I annoyed that the fandom was SO awful and so accusatory toward the showrunners they felt the need to shoehorn in a last minute wedding because they honestly felt bad when the truth is this has always been a glorified ship war? MEGA YES. They shouldn’t have felt like they had to make this bad writing decision on the behalf of fans who have treated them and their efforts like shit. Shame on the people who treated them this way. They tried so FUCKING hard to give us something and ya’ll threw it away and called them evil. I get how you feel but damn why don’t YOU try to make social change happen in the entertainment industry and see how well your LGBT paradise vision goes over when there are dozens of other people with a say. (I could go on about how poorly that was handled on both ends, but that is another point altogether.)

More than anything, I’m happy that some 7 year old kid who LOVES the badass Captain Takashi Shirogane is going to see him get married on screen and kiss a MAN. Like holy shit, that is HUGE. Do I think it could have been written better? Absolutely. But This show wasn’t made for me it was made for the 7 year kid out there is going to think “Shiro kissed a boy, maybe I’m not weird for wanting to kiss boys” and THAT is what Representation in children’s media is all about. I’m going to celebrate this and everything else related to Shiro’s LGBT status because what matters to me way more than ships or satisfying romantic arcs is maybe when my little nephew sees his favorite character is gay he will be a little more open and comfortable when I bring my girlfriend to family dinner.

I think it would do the fandom (especially the Sheith shippers) some good to step back, take off their shipping goggles, and recognize this for the stride in Children’s media that it is. That being said I’m gonna be reading and writing the fix-it fics along with the rest of you, because fandom and how I enjoy the show can be whatever I want.

The conclusion and why I still love Voltron:

You know what? Yes I felt a little let down by the writing, but Voltron is one of the first fandoms I’ve been so involved in and I have had such wonderful experiences while enjoying this show. I’m never going to let some dissatisfaction ruin this for me. The nice thing about fandom, is I can enjoy my version of the show however I want it, and it doesn’t have to effect how I feel about canon at all. And when I take off my fandom goggles, this season was actually pretty enjoyable.

I encourage anybody who has enjoyed the show up to this point to put your bitterness aside and do what you’ve been doing from the start. Create some content, consume some content, ship what you want, and don’t you dare let anybody ruin this for you. You have good memories with this show, keep them good and move froward.

Peace out my dudes, I’m gonna be hanging out in Sheith hell for at least another 6 months.

So, the TLDR? - IMHO Pidge is best for Bi-Lance.

In the previous post I discussed how Plance, FlirtyRobot, Pidgance, SeaSalt, F*ckPlant, whatever you want to call this adorable ship doesn’t actually give us the LGBT+ rep we want... Well, maybe we just have to squint a little...? In this essay I will...direct you to the link below so I don’t dominate your feed...

This line of thinking started a couple of days ago. My partner was looking through a draft of one of my many unfinished fanfics and said to me... “You’re using that one again...?” “Which one’s that?” I reply nervously. “The idea that Lance liked Pidge when she was doing the Mulan thing...? You really like that don’t you...?” And my partner’s right. I DO really like that idea. It’s my top tier head canon. But the discussion got me thinking. Why do I like it beyond it being cute...? Well, there has been discussion in the fandom regarding Lance’s theorised bi-sexuality probably ever since he shared more than a nano-second on screen with another attractive boy. No shade, I’m guilty of it too in more fandoms than I’d care to admit. It’s a pretty understandable feeling. But there’s also this pic...

Given certain recent news that I won’t go into for fear of spoiler territory, this image suddenly has a lot more attention within the fandom. In particular, the discussion of Lance’s sexuality. Now, cute as it would be for Hance, Klance, Shance, Latte etc. to become canon, as long as they were all handled respectfully and lovingly for all involved, I just don’t personally see them fitting the character growth Lance has been given so far. Feel free to respectfully disagree, because I’m not anti any of your shipping preferences you ship what makes you happy. This is just my opinion, #shipandletship In the last post on this subject, my focus was essentially Lance unshackling himself from the concepts of toxic masculinity and how important a message that is for men young and old to see. Setting aside the idea of conquest, bravado etc and becoming a more nuanced, thoughtful and ultimately complete human being.

You know what fits that narrative really well? Loving someone regardless of what they are and more down to who they are. This wouldn’t be something new to Lance either. Just look at the early seasons of his being the incessant flirt-machine. Was he ever turned off by the idea of a non human being? Do you honestly think a particularly cute xenomorph would have been off the table? Seriously, if Lance had met this...

...do you think he would have cared about the silicon skin, the acid blood, the secondary mouth (ok maybe the secondary mouth for making out...), the barbed tail...? Or do you think he would have just taken one look at the smile, the figure, and been all over her like a rash...? Or at least given the winning smile and the finger guns. And now, as his character has developed into caring less about the physical and far more about the person within, learning to put aside his feelings of romance into being a better friend and person, do we really think he’d suddenly be hung up on the same sex or gender identity of his own species? I’d be tempted to say Lance may not simply be Bi, but given his utter lack of concern about alien species, he may well be Pansexual.

And this is where the Crush on Pidge at the Garrison comes in. Maybe Lance never even realised it at first. Maybe he did and just didn’t or couldn’t act on it, giving the barrier early Pidge always put up...? Just consider though. Even presenting as a male, even with the cold barrier up, Lance sought Pidge out, Lance raced ahead at Pidge’s behest toward certain danger, Lance cared deeply about Pidge’s reassurance of his decisions, valued Pidge’s intellect and took a genuine interest in what Pidge did and who “he” (as Lance saw it) was. Even waking from a coma just to save “him” from death at the hands of Sendak. Y’know. Like a friend does...

Or like a friend desperately reciprocates as a form of narrative parallel...

Now sure, this is all speculation on my part and all of those instances can easily be discarded as “just friends” if you like, that’s the wonderful thing about media and it’s polysemic interpretations. But, friends only or friends to lovers trope, they do show at least a connection, on that much we can agree. Connections can develop. Connections can deepen. Connections can be re-evaluated with the benefit of hindsight. So, perhaps one day we’ll see Lance reflecting on both how cute Pidge Gunderson was to him and how cute Katie Holt is to him now. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful message for Lance, grown as a character, to love someone beyond skin depth, beyond sex or gender, and purely for the person they are...?

And who fits that role better than our favourite Green Paladin? IMO, nobody.

Now you two hurry up and realise it already!!

voltron season one episodes reviewed by how gay they are

(written by a certified lesbian)

episode one: the rise of voltron

a classic. while having no outstandingly gay moments, it sets up the characters (who are all gay). also, hunk assumes that pidge has a girlfriend, and, even though pidge was presumed to be a boy at this point, she didn’t object to having a girlfriend. so that’s like, definitely a lesbian thing. 6/10 pidge is gay

episode two: some assembly required

again, while having no super gay moments, pidge’s girlfriend is mentioned for the second time. there was also the “i actually don’t hate you right now” line from lance to keith, plus the klunk hug. 8/10 very good klunk moment(s)

episode three: return of the gladiator

lance tried to impress keith specifically in the beginning by mentioning the kick he did. it may not have worked but it was a valiant effort! also voltron formed and there was a rainbow so….5/10 good try lance!

episode four: fall of the castle of lions

the iconic “i say vol, you say tron!” cheer, plus a good hance conversation about being homesick. also i’m gay and this is one of my favorite episodes so i’m adding extra points for that. 7/10 all around good episode

episode five: tears of the balmera

you know. you already KNOW. the bonding moment!!! the fucking bonding moment bitch!!! lance and keith held hands and lovingly gazed into each other’s eyes for way longer than they needed to, with the iconic “we did it. we are a good team” line preceding this. not to mention they were basked in purple lighting, the mix of red and blue! holy shit, dude. holy shit. 1000000/10 easily the gayest episode in the show

episode six: taking flight

keith says to lance, “we had a bonding moment. i cradled you in my arms!” so that was super gay lol. also pidge came out as a girl and hunk said he knew, meaning that all the times he teased pidge for having a girlfriend he was just assuming she was gay, so. ALSO that end scene where keith was like…very obviously flirting with lance? wow. 100/10 very gay would recommend

episode seven: return to the balmera

not to be that bitch and keep bringing up klance but like. i am that bitch lmao. the way keith looked at lance after he came up with that smart plan? well, there’s just no heterosexual explanation for it, is there! plus the two of them work so well together…they really are a good team, wow. 10/10 soft looks are great

episode eight: rebirth

okay so you know how i said this was written by a certified lesbian in the beginning? that’s really gonna shine through now. shay and allura are the epitome of wlw romance!!! like the first thing shay does when she sees allura is gasp and say “princess?” that’s gay babe! also shay was the first one to go to allura when she finished healing the balmera and held her in her arms (dare i say she cradled her?) for way longer than she needed to. so! gay. 100/10 my lesbian ass exploded

episode nine: crystal venom

the first thing that comes to mind when i think of this episode is “sad post op” so there’s that. but anyway coran would very pointedly not look at alfor’s ai, probably because he didn’t want to fool himself into thinking he was really alive (again, sad post op). but he still looked super torn when allura had to destroy his ai, and i’m…i’m sad. also there was that one klance moment which was nice. 9/10 i’m knocking a point because i’m fucking crying

episode ten: collection and extraction

while not particularly gay on its own allura shapeshifted which was super cool and also made me extra gay, so. plus there was some good klunk content! 5/10 could have done better but still pretty good

episode eleven: the black paladin

okay so this was the last episode of the season meaning it was action-centric, so obviously there’s not much to work with here. keith and lance had a direct parallel to kai and jinora from the legend of korra so that’s pretty eyes emoji! however voltron got split up which is homophobic because i’m gay and didn’t want it to happen. 5/10 very action-centered

VOLTRON S7 SPOILERS.

So, I finally watched it all. And tbh I sat to watch it with a lot of negative thoughts I took from this site, but it wasn't "end of Voltron" like I saw some people were announcing. But to the point, firstly what I liked about this season:

- HUNK DEVELOPMENT. FRICKIN FINALLY. 100/10 I'm proud of our kind yellow boi. He deserved it and it was really good. Let him be happy with his family for now. And Shay cus our ship is sailing again <3

- Plot. There was a lot of teamwork, something I like the most. In first half I was a little frustrated with how many problems team had to face, but in the end I think it was a good move. We got to see them struggle and oh my, this question if they're really team and family. MY HEART. They're teens/young adults and been through so much. LET THEM REST AND BE SILLY. Also there was a lot of action and whole fight for Earth was amazing to watch. A little nerve-wrecking in episodes 11-12, but cool. I won't talk much about plot as I'm not an expert but I liked it the most, even more than 1-2 seasons. And as there was less screentime for Keith and finally some more for rest of the cast I'm even more pleased. Sorry, I don't like him that much. He's nice but creators should finally let him step aside and be just leader without gathering all attention to his own story (BoM, his mom or rescuing Shiro for x time). Or let him help other paladins (*cough*LANCE*cough*) like he helped Hunk in this season, that was so suprising and great.

- FAMILIES. YES, OMG. Sam and Carelle (?) Holt were amazing. Their teamwork and love while helping Garrison, yes give us more of that. AND LANCE'S FAMILY! I WAS WAITING FOR THEM SINCE FIRST SEASON! Veronica is gorgeous and you can't tell me otherwise. I love her almost as much as her sweet little brother. Lance's niece and nephew were so cute! The best welcoming ever.

- Lance having more situations to prove his worth. I love when they use his sharpshooter's skills. And when he defended Hunk from Keith's anger? That warmed my heart. Also Hunk looking so kindly and softly at Lance hugging with his family. I love that they started to add more proofs of their friendship. In that scene I just shouted "GO JOIN THEM HUNK" but that's just my headcanon that they're almost parts of each others families.

- Our new four cadets. The one Keith beat in the past is mean but I can handle him. They work very well and the remaining three are fun and useful. I could have them in Atlas permamentely.

- Cosmo is great and I want to pet him. Romelle is also good, if she could only take Allura's place... I can dream right?

- ZETHRID AND EZOR. I SHIP IT AND YOU CAN'T TELL ME OTHERWISE. No one's gonna tell me that one scene was meant with different intention. I'll take it in place of Adashi...

So, here's some main things I liked in this season. Maybe I forgot about something but I can tell at the moment. Now what I didn't like:

*Strong langueage ahead! It was written directely after watching, sorry*

- Overhyping and luring fandom with Adam and Shiro's relationship. It was clear bullshit to raise the hype before season airs. That's not what fandom was hoping for, let's kill all the gays thrope and stuff. I'm sure there're people who adressed this issue better than me.

- What happend with Atlas in last episode. It's the biggest bullshit I have ever seen in this universe. Did Sam Holt build it blindfolded with Garrison's crew? How they could don't know ship is capable of changing it's shape? I could believe in combining machines when they were done by Alteans and Galra, not by humans who were mostly basing on plans Sam Holt bringed with him. It came out of nowhere and I didn't like it. I really liked that ship as I thought it's clever reference of mythological Atlas, the titan who carried the sky so it won't crush the lands, so our Atlas would protect the Earth in similar way as our danger also comes "from above". But no, they decided to give us another motherfucking robot. B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T

- Episode 4, can we pretend this shit doesn't exist? I'm sick of using Lance as comic relief and calling him stupid. Also I was disappointed by Keith's answer why his choice was Lance. Someone please teach this angry boi how to be nice to your teammate because he forgot how after season 3 (I guess that was it?).

- Forced Allurance. Just no. Allura still doesn't deserve our sweet, caring Lance. Now she noticed him? Oh I forgot, Lotor isn't around anymore, so she has to find someone else. Go fuck yourself Allura. Even if in this season she didn't do anything important, other than helping with Shiro's new arm and just being here, those forced moments made me sick. I'm all in for Lance finding his significant other and I would be happy with any person who can appreciate him for who he is and making him happy. Shance, Klance, Hance, Plance, Romellance, whatever you call it, I'm a multishipper. Just no this OP princess, at least until she'll appreciate him for real. What I guess won't happen soon.

- Lance almost dying again because someone thought that he is the best one to have problems with summoning his Lion. REALLY? Allura's less experienced, WHY LANCE? Ugh I'm just wainting for a moment when Voltron's crew will grow bored of thinking of ways to kill Lance. What is this, some sort of competition with Shiro we don't know about?

- Mrs. Admirall or whatever her name was. I JUST WANTED HER TO DIE MOST OF THE TIME. AND I WAS HAPPY SHE FINALLY DID. I understand she was needed for the whole drama, but I hated almost from the beginning. Her overgrown ego and naivety costed lives of who knows how many pilots (including Adam) and citizens. She should be glad her death was so light.

I think that's all, that's enough of this rage. Don't get me wrong, I really liked this season. We can't look at it just in terms of ships, but we can't fully excuse what they did with Adashi, that was not fair in my opinion. But overall it was a good season.
