Guilty Pleasure/Cringe PSA
Why did this ever become a thing? Why were we ever made to feel guilty about something we enjoy? And why has it evolved to the point when doing so makes people cringe?
The concept is so stupid.
Even within the world of fandom, where people are supposed to be more accepting, insults are thrown, and fights break out because we don’t like things the same way. Or we happen to like two different characters.
It’s garbage.
Life is too short to waste time worrying about the opinions of others when it comes to things that make us happy. We should be able to revel in the bliss of a hobby, or the melody of a song, or the repetitiveness of a trope as we read about the same pair falling in love again and again because it helps us escape the horror that is reality.
Listen to the song.  Crochet the stuffy.  Buy the figurine.  Wear the cosplay.  Write the fic.  Draw the art.
Be proud of what makes you happy, and stop questioning the bliss of others, even when you don’t understand it or it’s different from yours. Everyone finds something different at the end of the rainbow, and it is not up to you to judge their choice, tear them down, or make them question why they like it in the first place. People should not have to hide behind pretense and popular opinion to fit in.
Acceptance is something that you have to learn, something you have to practice. You may even have to teach it now and then. It’s hard, but you will be a better human for it. Building people up has long-lasting effects, and it’s incredible what making someone smile will do to your day.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. And never let anyone dull your sparkle.

We all tell ourselves and each other that "notes don't matter, create for yourself".
But it's crazy how noticing/remembering the lack of notes on your content can quickly tank your desire to continue creating.
It happens to most of us, I think. Fortunately, some of us bounce back. Unfortunately, some of us don't.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that you've inspired me to finally start posting my own fics. You're having an impact beyond simply entertaining people with your work, and I'm so grateful to you for it! xoxo
Tumblr media
This is the BEST thing to hear. I know so many of you out there have AMAZING ideas for fics, some of you probably even write them but don’t post them which is totally fine. But I get so excited when I find out that someone who’s never posted their own work before decides to give it a go. There’s just something magical about seeing other people in this community take the leap and put something out there for others to enjoy.
To respond more specifically, I know @scoonsalicious has a very creative mind (she sent me such a well thought out and unique request that I haven’t gotten to just yet). I’m so excited to check out your work. If you see me blowing up your notifications just look the other way 🤺
xoxo my sweet friend 🖤

If it hadn’t been for Duskwood, I wouldn’t have found those souls that light a fire in me and make life brighter when everything feels dark.
Love you all and I will always support you❤️

If you only stopped to notice how much more quickly your post gains notes with just a handful of REBLOGS, compared to your posts with zero REBLOGS, you would understand why we are often begging for REBLOGS. We are not on Tumblr just to have all our posts fizzle out into oblivion.
Please REBLOG. (Yes, and that includes this post right here--spread the PSA!)
Tumblr media
Additional PSA: Much love and thanks to those heroes who already DO REBLOG! <3

I am only going to post about this once.
Doing a little cleanup on my about me pages... kinda feel the need to revisit the author-induced HP-verse blowback and renewed fan creator exodus for a moment, just bc I keep seeing... discourse.
For context, in case you're reading this far and are unaware: I am pretty open about being nonbinary probably most accurately agender? still kinda feeling that out, and about being queer in general. So I feel like I have at least a small leg to stand on in this conversation, given the umbrella I fall under.
I understand why other authors and artists feel the right decision for them is to disengage from fandom, or to remove/orphan their body of work. I support them in their choice, and I wish them the best. Likewise, I understand why others may choose to remain, and to continue creating content (subversive or otherwise) that speaks to them and to others who are able to see themselves and their experiences in it. As a member of this camp myself, I salute these people. It's not an easy decision to make to continue in this climate.
I am extremely fortunate in terms of where I'm at in my journey, and where I live and work, and a supportive partner who is cis enough for the both of us lol. I understand that my situation comes with a certain degree of privilege - but that privilege is bought with the sacrifice of my truest self. These online spaces are one of the precious few places I have where I can express those sides of my identity, and my writing is the best place I have to explore them. Characters like Remus and Sirius and Tonks? They're the most familiar to me, and therefore the safest. For me, continuing is the best choice for the sake of my mental health - even with the pressure to quit.
To that end, it... bothers me a bit when I see discourse claiming that people who continue to engage in and create for this fandom are morally deficient. That, by and large, is not the case. Most folks are just out here trying to do the best they can. I don't think that shaming or call-out posts are constructive.
If you are expecting me to post disclaimers or to self-flagellate on every fandom post/fic, you will be disappointed. I will instead continue as I have been and put my limited bandwidth and energy into keeping my queer friends and family housed, fed, and safe. And I will continue to do so without posting about it because frankly I don't have the spoons to advertise every time I do something. (That said, if you're in the US and in need of help, please reach out privately: I probably have resources I can leverage.)
I am a big proponent of doing what you can with what you have and that every little thing counts. Make friends and network. Promote causes. Feed each other. Show up for each other. That's the important part. Like, it's not all big activism and protesting and bold proclamations. Sometimes it's just buying eggs.
Idk. I just feel like we all have better ways to spend our time than all this empty grandstanding. Just go... do something positive. Even if it's just providing emotional support, you know? Everything counts.

Alright so I'm going to say it.
Comments on fanfic matter. I know the whole "we write for ourselves" and yes that is true but I don't share fandoms with my IRL friends. They won't be able to read and understand.
I've had two fics get horrid comments in the last few weeks. And you know what? I haven't really written anything since.
Today someone commented and I literally teared up. I know we're not supposed to rely on comments but my gods does it help.
Say something nice. Especially if you already left Kudos. A keyboard smash even. I love long comments with thoughts but you know what I get the same happy when it's short.
We live in trying times. Be the bright spark in someone's day - even if it's just long enough to read what you said. You have no idea the potential impact it could have.
A thousand love to reader! A thousand love to leaving kudos. A thousand love to commenters.
There you've listened to my rambles.
Cheers!
PS: Art too. Leave likes, reblog, leave comments. Writers and artists go hand in hand.

Off topic.
Most of you don’t know that for years I have weeks-long bouts in which my brain constantly tells me to kill myself. It’s excruciating and during those times just dealing with that takes all of my energy. When it ends I’ve lost a lot of myself and have to struggle to recover and rebuild in order to act in the world until the next time it happens.
Not that long ago while it was happening a kind person saw how I was and sent me this song. Everyone is different and each time is different but this hit me at the right time and helped carry me through that time. Maybe it will reach one of you. Just keep your head above. (Also, never let anyone shame you out of your fandoms. They’re another lifeline.)
