First off, hi smelly! I’m so glad you asked ab this bc I love the idea of any of them having a tiny gf. I am a bit rusty but still have so many ideas, so bear with me!!

Heisuke- People already tease Heisuke for his size, “people” being Sanosuke and Shinpachi. I think he’s be kind of insecure if his gf was taller than him but I don’t think that’s gonna change anything about how much he loves her at all. I just wanted to clear that out of the way. Heisuke would enjoy it, feeling kind of dependable for her when she asks him to reach things she can’t. He can only do this to a certain extent, so she’s gotta wait for reinforcements to come and get something down for her. If she were like a head shorter than him, he’d probably show off all the places he could reach to her, milking her impressed responses and words of gratitude until someone bursts his bubble lmao. He’d sulk about it for a while, his face red from embarrassment, until she reassured him that he’s still super cool and handsome to her no matter what his height is. Also, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the ladies are really feeling the short kings right now. All and all, he’d like to show off for her, taking advantage of their height difference to make himself look cool.

Sanosuke- I don’t think Sanosuke would care all too much. I think what matters to him is if his lady is happy and spending time when she can with him. He also is, like, aiming to marry and have kids, so I think he wouldn’t care as long as they were serious about being with him. I do think he’d find a small gf to be very cute and would maybe feel a more intense need to take care of and protect his partner.

Shinpachi- Dude, he’d think his gf was the cutest no matter what but he probably wouldn’t want a lady friend who was taller than him because of some dumb masculinity reasons. Honestly though? There is a chance he could be into it with enough time. (“Mommy? Sorry. Mommy? Sorry.”) Anyways, I do think that’d an itsy bitsy teeny weeny little gf would probably freak him out. He’s a big dude in more ways than one and can be a bit brutish at times. I can see him worrying that he’d hurt her in some way whether it be during intimacy, simply falling on her, or just like losing her in crowds. This becomes such a worry when they go out, he asks to carries her on his shoulders- this being a good way to showcase his amazing strength and rippling muscles anyway.

And like I said in this post: He mostly shows signs of benevolent sexism. And revering Chizuru for being Not Like Other Girls™ but still feminine enough might be a mixture of benevolent and hostile sexism - since it reveres one kind of femininity but devalues another.

Some of my thoughts on his route below

So... It's not just the conservative gender roles which give me gender dysphoria that I don't like about this route... It's mostly Chizuru's inner conflict. She is so full of self-hatred, -doubt, guilt, insecurity and her thoughts and feelings spiral into such depths... It makes me anxious and together with Harada, it reminds me of the first guy I dated who left me by myself a lot similarly to how Harada does with Chizuru for most of his EB route...

(to) heisuke: would *melt* at a well-timed praise, and also probably a poorly timed one. extremely embarrassed about it, but in a safe space and with a safe person (like you and y'all's sex life), would preen and blush at hearing "you feel incredible" and "you're doing so good" while engaging in illicit activities~

(from) heisuke: heisuke is REALLY good at soft and intimate praising in bed. he wants desperately to make you feel good so right up until the moment he's stuck stuttering your name as he cums, he's brushing your hair out of your face describing how beautiful you are to him, how much he loves you, and "you're doing so good love, just like that" and "hold my hand and keep going, you're perfect, everything's perfect", and especially: "we can take all night, i'm all yours, i'll always be yours, i'll give my everything to you"

In a modern time, he's the kind of guy who's got it (mostly) together and will confidently text you that he's thinking about you and he "can't stop thinking about your ass" and somehow you're into it? around the canon period though, he's very busy with his whole samurai thing, so when he does come home to you he's on his hands and knees ready to make it up to you in the best ways he knows how. He's mature enough to praise "I love the way you taste" and young enough to call him commander and "lord/daimyo" in bed and use his position in your more ~playful~ sessions ("You do so well serving your lord, I should reward you well").

(from) souma: the king of baby to daddy himself! you can't imagine the things he's heard in prison! and after his years of repression, he's ready to take back control of his life and please you the way you need. He's promising "you can take it" while he brings you to your third orgasm of the night, calling you "my perfect little princess/prince/majesty", and encouraging every moan and sigh you let slip.

(to) nomura: he's almost to completion already if he hears the words "my pretty boy" come out of your mouth. he loves to hear you tell him how "sweet it is that he's so desperate for you". number 1 ready-to-please sub in hakuouki, he wants you to tell him what to do and then praise him for it when he does it.

(from) iba: he's a praised and a body worshipper 100%. this man knows All of your moles, curves, expressions, everything, and he loves you for all of it. As soon as he enters/touches you he's all about how "you're so tight/hard". (from) hajime: saito hajime is a man of few words, but when those words come out in bed, they HIT. a soft "come for me, you can do it" here and a sigh of a "you listen so well" there is all he needs to have his partner feeling thoroughly praised.

special mention (from)s souji & sanan: their praises are like sour patch kids. they look delicious, sound a little like you shouldn't be letting them explode in your mouth, but the sweet taste underneath is the real gem and their unique flavor is always intriguing. think praises with a bite; "I know that's not all you've got", "You can do better than that, there it is, good job", "You can handle it", "Your pout is beautiful, but I know your lips would look gorgeous somewhere else", "Show me that you're my good girl/boy/slut", "Keep going, yeah just like that darling, now faster".

So Let It Be Written is my positivity tag, because gdi we need this shit and it felt right to use that even if some of the positive stuff in there isn't actually written or a wish, it's just positive, feel-good shit.

Ship Tags: Gunblade, because at one point I think that was the actual ship name for them. Yes I was a Homestuck. No I am not ashamed of this fact. The fandom was a trash fire but the story was damn fucking good.

I Know, because that is one of the rawest, most emotional replies you could give in that context to someone confessing their love and to this day I adore the fact that that was Harrison's idea to say rather than have Han tell Leia he loves her too. Also it just defines their entire relationship.

Shadowed Flame, because Hughes is Roy's shadow and also it sounds damned poetic, fight me.

Mirrors of Wisdom because I stole it from a friend after 'And they were roommates' got old XD And because they are. Haitham himself admits that Kaveh is his perfect mirror [though naturally never to Kaveh's face XD]

Fox and Hound because well -gestures at them- Tighnari is a fox, Cyno is Anubis-coded and his constellation is 'Lupus Aureus' which translates roughly to 'Golden Wolf', I mean come on.

Raining Fire because of Ayato's Burst making it rain in an AOE effect and Thoma being a Pyro user. Also it sounds pretty and it's a very evocative phrase.

Hurricane because I mean have you met them? Anemo plus Hydro with Electro = Storm.

Disarm because of an old Wolfwood AMV set to the song of the same name by the Smashing Pumpkins and, honestly? The more I see of the pair the more that song fucking fits them and it hurts.

Persona Non Grata because I think I'm funny. It's also a dig at Akechi that my Joker would 100% use.

Cross-stitch because that's the actual ship name for them and it's still funny almost ten years later.

Character Tags: Stay Frosty because it just sounds like something Kaeya would say, the smartass.

Hydro Bastard Man because that's what I've been calling Tartaglia for ages and it amuses me.

Cousin Keiji because my personal P5 Protag is named Keiji, and my sibling's friendgroup has this thing where all their Protags are related [generally various iterations of sibling-hood] so I just declared mine to be a cousin since his last name is Kyouraku rather than either canonical one. Thus, Cousin Keiji.

Wisteria Warrior because one of the kanji in Saitou's name translates to 'Wisteria', and I think it suits Hakuouki!Saitou.

Eyes of Sky because have you seen Gojou Satoru's eyes? They are unfair to the extreme. Also I couldn't think of anything better.

SHSL Average Joe because have you met Hinata Hajime? He's so mediocre he'd get an Honorable Mention at a mediocrity competition. And he knows it.

(1/3) hii im the anon from before, thank u for the answer, i don’t mind the length at all!! the games being old/some never translated officially and a lot of weird possible bits about Chizuru’s life before the shinsengumi being ignored bc “otome mcs are blank slates, it’s not that deep” means it’s rare for ppl to try and analyze chizuru’s mental state and I think it’s such a shame like I’m aware that they could have done so much more with chizuru’s oni nature and sword skills (kinda infuriating lol) but I love her as a narrator and I think she’s an interesting character overall, she’s babygirl❤️. Kodo is inconsistent but he always has an agenda for taking care of Chizuru (especially bad in Saito’s and in Sannan’s route)

Sorry for the delay in my answer. I was very happy to receive this ask but a gap in internet connexion and some personal issues prevented me from answering it sooner.

To continue on Chizuru being emotionally isolated, yes Chizuru never thinking about getting married is what brought to my attention that something was wrong in the way she saw her own future. If all the lies Kodo fed her had been true, the most likely outcome for her life should have been to marry a man (either an assistant of her father he would have adopted, or another doctor or someone of similar social standing). I am not saying Chizuru should have been eager to get married. But, as a 16 years old girl, she should have started seriously considering it. Because it was an extremely likely scenario for how her life was going to play out.

Yet there is nothing, no dread at the idea of marrying someone, no eagerness, no annoyance at the prospect of having the same life for the rest of her life… Nothing. As if the idea had never even occurred to her. And since she did not have any other plan to replace this one we are left with what? Her staying with her father forever? How was she supposed to live if anything happened to him? It is as if she did not have any life, any future, outside of him. Something was very wrong there.

More than Chizuru's sword skills, on which I already gave my opinion when commenting on the movies (basically I am fine with Chizuru's strength not being her fighting skills and find her reluctance to enter a sword fight despite having some skills to be a perfectly valid character trait but I wished she was showed ready to use it in specific situations, in which she is defending people, more often), it is her relationship with her oni nature that frustrate me the most. Chizuru is not human, period. And she is so very not human, that she is even less human than some other oni and that makes her extra special even to oni. This discovery should be earth shattering for her, especially considering how human she is in the other sense of the word. And it is not really explored. It is explored a bit, like when her and Souji bound on their newfound 'monstrosity', but not enough to my taste. I wish Hakuouki dived into this way more than it did.

Considering what you are saying, I am sad to not have an access to Sannan' route (though I am still hoping for a Switch release of the newest translated games). Worst case scenario I will try finding it on youtube or something like this.

I am pretty sure Kodo said he was "wrong to let Chizuru have any freedom at all" in the movie. Death to Kodo! Death!!!!!!

You talk about her finding punishment (or punishing behaviors) normal and the things is I am not even sure that at first Chizuru recognized some behaviors as punishment. They are just normal behaviors to find in normal relationship. Nothing to see there. And that is why I say again: DEATH TO KODO!

Your "I can't believe he thought about my feelings 🥺" has me like 😭😂 because this is exactly how I read this scene and it is infuriating from an outside POV. This man is doing the bare minimum, THE BARE MINIMUM, and Chizuru is like "has anyone being that kind to me before?". I want to shake everyone inside the Shinsengumi, including Chizuru, like an old grandma who is not getting her way at the local farmers market.

I think Chizuru actually has a lot of potential for development as a character, besides some inconsistencies that are linked to the fact that she must fit several different 'routes', and I am very happy that we are taking time to discuss her.

Haku Men And Modern Rooms:

Heisuke- I wanted to let Heisuke be nasty for a change but idk if the other two of the trio would let him live down having anime tiddies all over his room like that lmao. I think he’d probably be into anime and maybe even have some hentai stashed somewhere in his room in modern times, however, I just don’t know for sure if it’s be his whole entire room. His room is somewhat messy and he never makes his bed. He might take a little bit more care to do so if, let’s say, a girl was to come over but I doubt that’s often. Once he starts dating them, the thought to clean kind of dissolves. He might have some secret porn somewhere. My reasoning I guess is bc he’s a young guy and miiight have some pesky teenage hormones left in him. On a side note, I think he’s enjoy Shonen manga a lot and as much as I do not like Dragon Ball, I think he’s enjoy it a lot. That and One Piece.

Chizuru- This feels like a cop out bit I think Chizuru would have a Sanrio bathroom. She has to be surrounded by men a lot and I think she’d appreciate something cute and light hearted for a change (not that Heisuke isn’t RIGHT THERE). I also think the men feel similarly about this so they bring her back cute things all the time to kind of “girl up” her space and because it’s from her loved ones, she’d proudly display them everywhere and finds great comfort in them.

Hijikata- Alternatively, and this may be because I have a lil secret crush on him right now, I think Hijikata might have like one Sanrio thing or two that Chizuru had gifted him but I don’t think he’d DARE decorate his whole room. I also think he’s like a dad that hates the new family cat yet he spoils the hell out of it when he thinks no one sees. So he just has a lil gacha figure of Chococat sitting on his desk bc Chizuru saw it and gave it to him like “for u <3”.

Shinpachi- I think Shinpachi has like one figurine he won and it’s like Tengen from Demon Slayer because he kins him or something idk and it took a lot of time and money to win so he displays it in a bunch of places like some kind of shrine bc he’s proud he won it from a crane games. Btw it’s either Lord Tengen or like VEGETA or something. If he knew about his own figures (I don’t think he has a big fancy one yet ), he’d DEF just display the figure of himself.

Weirdly Specific Artists Asks

1) Art programs you have but don't use

Clip Studio, bc the license has expired. It came with my tablet and I guess the license has an expiration date because I didn't use it for a while. My regular-use laptop doesn’t have enough space to run it, and when I tried to run it on my other lappy which does have the space, found out some of the features were missing and I couldn't save anything, which is a weird thing to have locked, esp on an art program, so I said f it, and didn't use it again.

Other programs of note as I scroll through my external harddrive:

-Corel Painter (also a freebie when I got with another tablet from years ago, but stopped using it. It was from an era where download discs were still a thing, and of course I've lost the disc, so it's useless to me)

-Gimp

-Autodesk Pixlr (used to be a browser program until it became unusable bc of ads. Didn't work as well on desktop either as it was mainly for editing pictures rather than as an art program, as it were)

-Manga Studio (which still amuses me with it's file name. Just a little too complex for me to use)

-MyPaint (endless canvas for drawing, good for doodles)

7) A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate

Oil painting. Lots of chemicals to work with and it takes forever to dry, but I do appreciate the looks it can give, how soft the blending can be, how naturalistic it can look, but it's a lil intimidating for me

8) What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in

I have thought about doing let's draw videos before, and have footage of me drawing Hakuouki's Saito back in 2016, but since I'm not the talkative type and using music on youtube is kinda a crapshoot, it never saw the light of day. Plus, all I had at the time to record was my PSVita, so the footage isn't of a high quality, so there's that.

Maybe someday I'll edit it properly and throw it out to the winds, but not any time soon.

9) What are your file name conventions

First, files are sorted into monthly folders with the month number so they can be in numerical order, then month name and year. When the year is up, they go into one year folder and then thrown into old stuff.

Next, for actual naming conventions, I'll describe what's going on in the pic if I need to find it again at a later date. Sometimes this is pretty straight forward. like, [Character] [doing thing], with a date attached if I can remember to add it.

Then there are those that I do just to make myself laugh. Including but not limited to:

Otome game fashion comparison

Disclaimer: This is just my opinion, feel free to share your own!

Amnesia: Memories: Welp, it's pretty much 2000s/2010s Japanese (Visual Kei?) fashion and it's kinda cool. All outfits fit each other well, have a somewhat similar style. 3/5 stars (The outfits get better in the fandiscs/sequels.)

Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly: You have no idea how much I love the outfits in this game. Hella unique, perfectly fitting the atmosphere. Has some Visual Kei, Jirai Kei, Aristocrat style elements. 4.5/5 stars

Hakuouki: Sweet School Life: What the hell went wrong here? Everyone dresses like 30+ y.o. married people with barely a sense of fashion. 1/5 stars

Diabolik Lovers: Haunted Dark Bridal/Vandead Carnival: DL is what introduced me to/got me into Jirai Kei and if you know the franchise as well as the style's background, the style choice makes a lot of sense. Sure, the fashion in the games isn't overwhelming but I love that it shows us masculine versions of Jirai Kei. 4/5 stars (bc of my love for Jirai Kei)

7'Scarlet: Almost as bad as HSSL but Ichiko's outfit is pretty nice and I have a heart for Toa's normal outfit, wearing his grandpa's padded haori because it makes him feel comfortable. The yukata in this game though? Either pretty boring or ugly. 1.5/5 stars

SHOCKING: regarding the rumors about todo heisuke not being an ally

first things first: obv everyone is entitled to their onions and headcanons, im not coming for the person i saw post abt heisuke not being gay or an ally, and they're allowed to feel and share their opinions abt queer hakuouki takes. i prefer not to make them feel attacked so pls dont go trying to find their post and responding to it just bc you see this. esp bc for all i know, other people feel the same way about heisuke !!! i just want to clear up these rumors abt him ok ! xD

-photo one: taken directly from EB, this one line from Sannan not only points out that the rest of the shinsengumi crew is so close and valuable to heisuke that even others view them as "his pack" aka his family, but also showcases the moment that heisuke has gone far out of his way to be here to confront Sannan with relationship to his previous bond to Sannan, and his current bonds to the shinsengumi and chizuru. even if we pretend that heisuke isn't gay in some way (he is) of course he would also view his queer friends with the same loving ferocity and defend them with his life. if anything he is one of the most all for one, one for all, protective and loving shinsengumi members of the bunch.

-photo two: always prioritizing and protecting the "underdog/weakest", even above other people who we have literally seen him be willing to give his life for. he recognizes when life/the situation is unfairly against someone else and he is on their team to try to help them.

-photo five: my king so generously points out to us that he has never had feelings for a woman besides Chizuru (or MC for my self insert babies uwu). Where many other characters are hinted at being ladykillers or non-virgins etc, Heisuke has always been very candid about not having had any close bond with a woman before, much less have had feelings or even attraction to one. Sure, he gets embarrassed when the baka trio go to fun sexy lady places, but he himself doesn't ever really say that *he* is attracted to any of the other women he comes into contact with. points can be made here for him being bisexual/pansexual with or without a leaning towards men, demi/ace spectrum for his attraction seemingly going hand in hand with his closeness with a person, etc

-photo seven: WATCH OR PLAY REIMEIROKU. this is obv from EB but the bond that ibuki and heisuke share is almost unbearable in how much they love and care for each other like,,,, what is your first love if not someone you wish will be happy in life with or without you? ibuki is so clearly not a samurai, he's an artsy little outcast (also incredibly queer-coded and missed on that post imo), and heisuke relates to and grows close to him, missing and loving him from afar, even so far as to refrain from going to see him personally in fear of disrupting their peace.
