“You look really pretty today,” Was something you told your coworker Hailey Upton daily. It was also unfortunately your crappy way of flirting. Listen, nobody taught you how to flirt. It's not like it was going to go as smooth as imagined.
Your partner (regularly) made fun of you for it, knowing that your budding crush on the blonde had been festering since you first met her. How could it not have?
Genuinely, she comes in, starts shit talking your asshole of a superior and you’re not supposed to want her to push you up against the wall and make out with you?
Well you definitely failed in that department but the problem was, you didn’t even know if she liked girls like that. And after her short lived stint with Adam you didn’t know if it was worth trying. If you were wrong then you could mess up the really, really, good friendship you guys had.
But things were starting to feel different. Just slightly. When you guys went undercover inside a bar and the way she had looked you over before you left felt… less restrained. More of the way you usually look at girls.
But hey, maybe you were overthinking it. So you gave the same “You look really pretty,” and moved on. Letting the night progress, the case get worked and by the end of the week you were with everyone else getting a drink at Molly’s.
Whilst there you tried to let go, keep an eye out for someone that wouldn’t mind coming home with you. Needing some sort of stress reliever after the way work had been going.
And you could have sworn you saw Hailey let out a heavy sigh when you took the hand of a red haired girl you met not even ten minutes ago and stalked out of the bar. Her hand already on your ass.
You must’ve been hallucinating. And she was out of your mind for the entirety of the ride to your house before she crept back in. You shouldn’t have been thinking of her while someone else (her name was Samantha) had her way with you.
But you couldn’t help it. Your feelings fpr the blonde detective weren’t only sexual. No way. You wanted the everyday stuff with Hailey. All of it. But in that exact moment you did wish she was the one knuckles deep in you.
What could you do right?
So maybe work was weird Monday, and then again Tuesday. Even more so Wednesday when Voight ushered for you and Hailey to be partnered up, needing the double distraction at the forefront.
Just clad in normal, casual clothes, you and Hailey worked the men up, having to fight the urge to hit them when one of them got a little too handsy. Knowing that acting harshly wouldn’t be much help.
Back in her car on the way back though, she looked over at you. “Are you okay? I saw how Vincent grabbed you. If that had been me I would’ve broken his nose.” Hailey spoke as she brought the two of you back to the precinct.
Simply you nodded, “Yeah, could’ve been worse. And besides, it would’ve done more harm than good. It’ll feel nice to get him behind bars though. That’s for sure.” You sighed out, leaning your head back against the headrest.
Hailey nodded, turning her focus back to the road. She couldn’t figure out why seeing him do that made her feel so angry, so annoyed.
She was just protective, is what she came up with. She didn’t want anyone getting touched or hurt badly. That had to be it. And you didn’t even realize how she looked after you as you exited the vehicle first.
Didn’t notice her walking behind you and just trying to find what it was that was making her feel so off. So weird.
That alone made the next couple of days feel wrong. Back with your usual partners, aside from the undercover part, the two of you were never in a room alone together. Whether it was on purpose and Hailey was avoiding you or completely coincidental, it was weird.
But what were you going to do? Ask her about it? Then you’d have to explain why it hurt so much. Why you wanted to talk to her. So you ignored it and went about your days.
It was difficult at Molly’s that Saturday. You were (as usual) one of the last ones there. Meaning Hailey and the others had already set up shop at a table, a seat open for you but you didn’t know if you would be making her uncomfortable.
You thought for a second as you went up to the bar. Maybe she’s just been busy. With what though you were on the same damn case. Or, your eyes widened, maybe she picked up on your crush with her dumb detective skills and got creeped out.
If that were true you couldn’t even bear joining them. You didn’t exactly get a choice, Jay coming over as you ordered and practically dragging you to the table. “Okay, settle this for us. We, as in me and Adam, think that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. I have always, always watched it as one.”
He paused, “But, Kev and Hailey think it isn’t. Kim’s never seen it so she’s out of the conversation.” Jay put his hand on your shoulder slightly, waiting for your response.
Jay you’re not going to like my answer,” you laughed softly, Kevin cheering instantly.
“See? I told you she’d be with us. It is not a Christmas movie.” He spoke, smiling widely at you. “This is why we’re your favorites and you're my favorite.”
Adam looked up in fake offense, Kevin brushing him off. You laughed softly, looking over at Hailey. Her eyes almost instantly darted from yours, a sigh leaving your mouth.
“Right, well, I’m gonna run to the bathroom before I start drinking so, yeah.” You stood, practically sprinting to the bathroom. All of your worries were at the top of your mind and there was no real way for you to get past them.
Maybe you just had to come clean. Get it off your chest. Except that could be the final nail in the coffin. So what the hell were you meant to do? You couldn’t deal with Hailey ignoring you for the rest of your career as a police officer.
You couldn’t — your thoughts were cut off when the door to the bathroom opened, Hailey poking her head in. “Hey, you ran off pretty fast I just uh, I just wanted to make sure you were alright.” She spoke with a light smile, stepping in when you nodded.
“Oh, yeah I’m uh, I’m good. Thanks.” You bit your cheek, seeing Hailey’s eyes squint before she called out the most obvious lie because of course she did.
Whether you were fully aware of it or not, Hailey knew you. How you acted when you were lying to someone you were close to. The way you always bit at the inside of your cheek or lip when you were holding something back.
She just knew. And you hated it sometimes.
Because why was she able to know you like that but you could barely get a window into her? Maybe you just didn’t let yourself. Too scared of the rejection you’d find in her.
Or maybe she was making sure you couldn’t. Her own fears keeping her from letting you in. “Okay fine. I just,” you let out a heavy sigh. “Why have you been avoiding me?” You had to know. If it was something that you could fix you’d do it in a heartbeat.
Her eyebrows just barely crinkled, the blonde girl taken aback just slightly, leaning against the door. “I’m not, well, I’m not trying to. I’m just, going through shit. I promise it isn’t you, y/n.” Hailey sighed out, running both of her hands over her face.
Faintly you nodded, a silence falling between the two of you. “Oh, alright. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have assumed you were.” Your heart started racing, looking over at her. “Are you alright?”
She nodded, “Yeah, just trying to piece some things together. No biggie. Look I’ll get back out to them, you better join us when you get out of here.” Hailey grinned going to leave.
“Hey Hails?”
“Yeah?”
“You look really pretty tonight.” You hadn’t been able to tell her recently so you had to take advantage of the opportunity. If the lighting had been better you would’ve sworn that this time a blush went across her face.
But what did you know? “Thank you, I’ll see you out there.” She said, leaving the room and you to mentally smack yourself as many times you’d like.
Thankfully though you went back out and joined the rest of the team, more debates over movies and shit still happening. A good half of the time though you just found yourself gazing over at Hailey. Hopeful nobody noticed.
Except on the way out, you felt an arm go over your shoulder, “So, your crush on Upton, how longs that been going on?” Jay’s voice fully took you by surprise, nearly elbowing him in the side when he first touched you.
“Jesus- Halstead you can’t just come up on a girl.” You grumbled, taking the chance now to elbow him back. “And I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He wasn’t able to see the way your jaw clenched as you looked down, still walking under his arm.
Jay laughed, nodding, “Right, look, y/n, I’m just saying. I could see the way you looked at Hailey the same way I can see your car right now. Like it’s under a spotlight.”
You looked up, your car in fact under a streetlight. “She’s a friend Jay, you know what those are right?” Your eyebrow cocked up at the question, Jay nodding slightly.
“Heard of them here and there. Alright fine, so if I asked Hailey out that wouldn’t bother you? Wouldn’t annoy you?” He was very obviously instigating. This time noting the way you rolled your jaw. “See! Don’t have a crush my ass!”
Mentally Jay patted himself on the back, happy he got that right before he sighed, “Alright, teasing aside. You should go for it. Maybe it’ll pull her out of whatever mental haze she’s had this past week.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean she’s been weird all week. Won’t tell me why. Though it started after you guys went undercover together so maybe it just has something to do with that. Either way. You need to talk to her.” He stopped the two of you in front of your car, gesturing to it. “And I leave you at your chariot, goodnight.”
With a half-assed salute, the detective walked away,
Leaving you to get home for the night. And you sat with what he said the whole ride, and then some.
You were thinking about it as you got to work Monday, ready to bring it up with Hailey but she wasn’t there, apparently she used a few personal days and wouldn’t be back until next week.
Jay was working with Voight for the week and things were easy peasy. Except for the feeling that something was bothering Hailey and you were ignoring it. Like a voice in the back of your head was telling you to go check on her.
A voice that went ignored until Thursday night when you finally decided to get over whatever fear was holding you back and go over to her apartment.
You didn’t even know if she was home. You barely cared, you’d wait outside her apartment until she got home if you had to.
You just couldn’t ignore the feeling in your chest anymore. So you knocked on her door, ready to be met with silence but it only took a few moments for the door to open and Hailey to look over you. “What are you doing here?”
She didn’t sound mad but more so, shocked, surprised someone even checked on her. “Honestly? I’m not sure. I know you took a few personal days but, something felt… wrong? I guess? Like I should uh, should come and check in. How are you doing?”
You thought back to what she said about dealing with something and maybe you were overstepping. But you couldn’t help it. This team was your life. Most of them your family and you needed to be there when one of them needed it.
Hailey didn’t reply, simply stepping out of the way and letting you in. Slowly you entered, glancing around. It was the first time you’d been to her new apartment, taking in the look of it.
Under normal circumstances you would’ve commented on it but it felt wrong to do in the moment. Hailey shut the door softly behind you, silently heading into the kitchen.
You felt compelled to follow, leaning onto the island counter when she stepped around it. “Do you want a drink?” She held up a bottle of whiskey before bringing a couple cups over.
“Hails,” You asked softly, looking over her. She obviously hadn’t been sleeping much but you weren’t going to let her keep doing it alone. “Hailey.” Your voice more firm, making her look up. “What’s going on with you?”
She wasn’t like this. Hailey upton was put together. She could handle nearly anything thrown at her. Any criminal, any case. The girl had such a strong sense of who she was and what she believed in. That was why she was crumbling.
Questioning everything she’d ever known about herself. The way she wanted to kiss her. Kiss you. Another girl. She wasn’t used to that kind of thought. And if she didn’t have some voice deep in her subconscious making her second guess everything then maybe she would have done it already.
Maybe she would have done it the first time you ever called her pretty and she felt the way her chest fluttered. In the same way it had when Adam would wrap her into a hug.
The second she realized she felt the same way she did with her exes as she did you it was like her stone walls had fell in on one another.
Not out of shame. Or disappointment. Just out of utter change. Or more so the fear of it. Would this revelation change her as a person? Make her a different person? She didn’t know and that was what scared her.
“I-“ Hailey started, shaking her head, “god this is pathetic. I’m sorry.” She paused the pouring of the drink, looking up at you. “How are you so good about it?”
Her question threw you off, tilting your head, “Good about what?”
“Being into girls. I just…” Hailey rested her elbows on the counter, hands going into her hair in distress. “I think I might be and it’s scaring the hell out of me.” There was an odd mix of silence in the room.
Just because you were into girls didn’t automatically make you an expert in helping someone else understand themselves. But you couldn’t just ignore her question.
Slowly you went around the island, leaning against it while facing her. “It’s difficult. Trust me. I mean, I realized I was into girls back when I was maybe 13? 14? But it’s not like it was accepted. I just had to live with that internally. I’m only good at it, which, is a stretch by the way, because I stopped letting other peoples thoughts influence mine.”
Hailey turned her head to you, nodding faintly, “I just, what if I’m wrong? And I waste y- someone’s time?” She looked away just as smoothly as she had looked towards you, shuffling faintly.
“You wouldn’t be wasting anybody’s time. How are you supposed to know who or what you like if you don’t try you know? That’s how I found out I was in fact not into boys.” Your nose scrunched up with a shake of the head.
Part of you wanted to offer yourself up as practice but you couldn’t handle the blow back if it went wrong. Things blowing up and possibly getting hurt in the process.
The blonde’s head stayed low for a moment before she shifted again, as if something went through her mind. With her elbow leaning on the counter she looked up, “I just, I think I like this girl.” She started hesitantly. “Because, when I see her it makes my heart race. And it’s really, really similar to how I felt with Adam and I'm scared. What if I’m reading things wrong?”
It took everything in you to not frown at her words, because of course if she was into girls it would be someone else. Not you. Instead you swallowed thickly, “I think the only way to tell is to try things out. You know if she’s also into girls?”
“She definitely is.”
“Then I say go for it. Be up front about what you’re going through and most girls will be understanding. Worst that could happen is that you end up not having feelings for her. And if she knows-” You were cut off by the shorter girl stepping forward quickly, her hand pulling you down to her and pressing her lips to yours.
She wanted to do things smoother, ask first, but the racing of her heart and doubt in her stomach needed to be satisfied, relaxed and the only way she could think of was letting herself find you. Letting herself have the one thing she had wanted for months now.
Every small glance, every little compliment. All of it. Hailey Upton knew she had indefinitely fallen for you even if she wasn’t sure what that meant yet. And her lips were familiar. All it took was that one moment together for her to know. She did like girls. She did like you. And if she could, she’d kiss you forever.

Midwest Winter Freeze
I'm back with another story! The tempts here in the midwest are freezing (windchill is making it colder than Alaska), this story has been on my mind for a day or two now and just had to come out! So enjoy!
“Pat? The weather channel is saying that it’s supposed to be a windchill advisory for the next few days.” called out Mary Halstead.
“What?” yelled Pat while running from the bedroom to the living room.
Turning up the volume, they both listened,
“Temperatures are supposed to reach -9 by tomorrow morning, but with the windchill it will feel like -35. Experts say to try to limit time outside, bundle up if you have to go outside, and check on the elderly. I’m Rhonda Rhymes and your watching ABC Chicago 7, we will be right back after these messages”
Lowering the tv, Mary looked at Pat, “we should probably drip the faucets tonight if it's supposed to drop that low by tomorrow morning.” she stated while getting up.
“I’ll do the upstairs bathroom if you want to handle the kitchen and the bathroom down here” called Pat, while heading to the staircase.
After the faucets were dripping the two began getting the boys ready for bed. 5 year old Will already took a bath before dinner cause he was out in the snow playing with his friends from down the street. But 4yr old Jay was still in need of one.
“You left the water on” observed Jay while sitting in the tub with his rubber duck.
Looking up, Mary smiled, “it’s okay baby boy, we just don’t want the pipes to freeze”
“Okay” responded little Jay while dunking his rubber duck for the 5th time.
Later that night after the boys were put to sleep and well after Mr. and Mrs. Halstead went to sleep, Will woke up with a start. Sitting up he looked around the room and saw his brother passed out in his toddler bed clutching his stuffed dog. He also noticed he was thirsty. So he quickly but quietly clamored out of bed and walked into the bathroom. Closing the door, he flipped on the light and grabbed his plastic Land Before Times cup and filled it with water from the sink. Once it was sufficiently filled, he shut the faucet and chugged the cup of water.
Once returning to his bed he took one more look at his brother and fell back asleep.
“PAT!” shrieked Mary from downstairs. Both Will and Jay jumped awake at the noise, both sitting up and looking at each other in a ‘what is going on’ type of way.
“Will?” asked Jay while wiping his eyes.
Shrugging Will just said, “it’s okay, do you want to go get some breakfast?”
Nodding, Jay slipped out of bed and quickly turned around to grab his stuffed dog. Waiting for Will to also slip out of bed, the two boys quickly walked downstairs to the kitchen.
“This is going to be so expensive, I’m going to have to pick up extra shifts at the hospital to even pay for it.” the boys heard once when they walked in the room.
“Mama?” asked Will while cocking his head to the side, “what’s wrong?”
Turning from the kitchen sink, Mary smiled down at her boys, “nothings wrong, how did you boys sleep?” she asked while reaching out to pick up Jay.
“Good” confirmed the boys.
“Jay, did you touch the sink yesterday?” demanded Pat while walking over from the phone.
Shaking his head, Jay whimpered. “Pat, you're scaring him.” she tightened her grip and ran a hand down his back.
“What happened daddy?” asked Will while taking a seat at the kitchen table.
“Our pipes froze! That’s what happened! And your brother must have done it!” snapped Pat while also taking a seat at the table.
Will looked down at his hands before feeling his mom run her hands through his hair, “well that wasn’t good” lied Will.
“Wait!” exclaimed Jay while sitting up in his chair.
“What?” asked Will while taking a sip from his beer.
“You're telling me that it was you all this time?”
“What are you talking about?”
Hailey watched as her husband and brother in law bickered.
“Will, was it you who had turned off the faucet?” she asked finally.
“Listen, no one told me that we were dripping water to keep the pipes from freezing. I didn’t even grasp that that was even a thing we were supposed to do until I was 6 and the temperatures dropped again.”
“But you let me take the blame! For something you knew I didn’t do!” exclaimed Jay while shutting his eyes, forcing himself to take a big deep breath and clench his hands tightly to release his anger in a healthy way.
“You didn’t even get in that much trouble, you just weren’t allowed to be in any rooms unsupervised and if memory serves me right, you were still partially in pull ups at the time, so that wasn’t even a real issue half the time.”
Hailey just laughed,
“Okay Hailey Anne, if you think that’s so funny. Did you or your brothers ever freeze your family’s pipes?” asked Jay while taking a sip of his own drink.
“No, we were really careful about it because of my dad. I think maybe Eric did once when I was a baby but i’m not for certain, I just know that when I was of an age that I could grasp what was going on, he and Ryan pulled me aside and made it very clear that if mom and dad left the faucets dripping in the winter that I was to not mess with the sinks.”
“I’m sorry” replied Will.
Shrugging, Hailey smiled, “it’s okay! I will say when I was in college at UIC, one of my roommates was from somewhere like California or maybe it was Texas, I don’t remember but the point was she had never experienced a midwestern winter growing up and it was a year where the temps were worse than Alaska and snow was really heavy. I had started dripping our faucets in our apartment and our landlord sent a text out to us reminding us why we should do this and this girl had the audacity to ignore the text and to turn the faucets off. Let’s just say she was so lucky I stayed up late every night and would flip them back on before calling it a night.”
Laughing, the three looked at each other and raised their cans, “to midwest winters.” stated Will.
“To not having earthquakes” giggled Jay.
"to not having hurricanes" giggled Will.
“To not having alligators” giggled Hailey and the three of them clinked their cans together.

Always - Jay Halstead
Tumblr media
Fandom: One Chicago
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Request: could you do a oneshot of somebody comforting Jay after his dad passed away? 👉🏻👈🏻
A/N: I can't remember the exact course of events on the shows so this is my twist on the storyline.
MASTERLIST
•••
You felt a pit in your stomach as you pushed through your shift constantly checking the time and your phone in case of an update coming in.
You were working in the pediatric department as a nurse when Maggie came up and told you Jay's dad was brought into the ED in critical condition after a fire broke out in his apartment building. Being caught with your own patients you barely found the time to sneak downstairs into the ED.
Not being able to get in touch with Jay you looked frantically through the ED searching for him or Will. Another nurse saw you and pointed you towards Treatment Room 5. Just as you were getting closer, Jay almost stormed out of the room walking towards the exit. "Hey what's going on?" You barely managed to get the words out before he reached the door. "I can't stay here...I can't be here another second." Grabbing his arm and stopping him from walking any further he turned around to face you. You could see frustration and pure anger written all over his face and knowing the circumstances in which he also lost his mother you had to make one last plea to him. "Baby, you should stay...you never know what can happen and you're going to want to be here...you can'tgo nack to work." Shaking off the tears that were about to fall out of his eyes he gave you a kiss on the cheek saying "See you home tonight, take care." And with that he turned around and left.
Jay's relationship with his dad was a complicated one to say the least and you never tried to get mixed in their business as it seemed very personal. When your pager went off signaling that you were needed, you made your way back through the ED passing the treatment room in which Jay's dad was in. Will was sitting on a chair next to him looking completely distraught holding his hand and with a quick look at the monitors you noticed his stats weren't great. He saw you standing over there looking through the glass door and you gave him an apologetic look and mouthed "Hold on" before having to return to your department.
The rest of the day was awful for you. With some of your patients encountering problems themselves, you were also trying to get ahold of Jay but he seemed like he was conveniently sending you straight to voice-mail.
Your shift finally came to an end and you were trying to change into your normal clothes while simultaneously texting Jay when Maggie appeared through the door. "Mr. Halstead didn't make it." She said and you let out a breath you never knew you were holding in. "Will is still with him...Jay never came back." She said and you thanked her for letting you know. After seeing the condition he was in and also being familiar with his other health issues, you knew it was almost impossible for him to ever make a full recovery, but now your focus was on Jay, who wasn't there for his father's last moments.
As much as you wanted to look for Will and also give him some comforting and encouraging words, you knew you needed to get home as soon as possible. And you did. Walking into your apartment it was pitch black and dead silent. The only light was coming from the street lights on the road. Through the whole darkness you somehow made out Jay's figure sitting on the couch facing the window. Carefully making your way towards him, you sat down behind him wrapping your arms tightly around his torso and resting your head on his back. His hand covered yours and for a good few minutes both of you sat in silence only the soundof the night being audible. No words would be able to comfort him or take the pain away, so for now you just held him giving him reassurance.
Looking around you noticed a bottle on the table and the smell of whiskey hit you. Jay rarely, almost never drank at home and you just knew he's been here nursing on this bottle since he sat down. You could hear him sniffling and as you tightened your arms around him he finally gave up and broke out crying. "What did I do?" He managed to say between sobs and the sound of his voice cracking broke your heart. "My entire adult life...all I did was fight with him. I don't remember one good moment with him...and he died thinking I hated him."
"Baby, nothing you would've said or done...would've made you feel any less pain now." At this point you turned him around and cupped his face into your palms. "You feel whatever you need to feel and I'm here for you and we will get through this together...and it will get better with time, I promise you." The look on his face ripped your heart in half again and again and again. You felt like you were a strong person until it came to Jay...he was your weakest spot and seeing him hurt, physically hurt you aswell.
Taking your hand into his and placing a kiss on it, he took a deep breath in trying to collect himself. "I don't know where I would be without you...thank you for always being by my side no matter what."
"Always."

“Hi.” You grinned rolling over to his side of the bed, lying on top of him.
Your leg wrapped around his leg as he laid under the Snow White comforter and sheets in the fancy hotel room he’d gotten for the two of you. He planted a kiss on your lips. “Hey, Goodmorning beautiful.” You smiled, rubbing your hand back and forth on his chest. For months, you and Dorian (Jay) had been in an intimate relationship behind closed doors, and behind his boss. (Undercover)’s back. You were a runaway at the age of fourteen, you lived on the streets until you met a man you knew as Kevin Rayez, you thought he was kind and sweet and he was at first. He was kind, sweet and generous. He had taken you in, fed you, clothed you. He was grooming you, over time you and him forged a relationship. Sexual relationship. The creep didn’t even wait until you were old enough. He pursued you at just the age of sixteen.
Then once you were in your thirties, things went to bad.. to worse.
He would force you to sleep with his friends, and other men while he got paid for it. From there, he trafficked you around the world. Forcing men on you until you were in your twenties. When you were twenty-two, he forced you to start running the house with the girls he’d trafficked over the years. You were still his top girl so occasionally you’d still have to mess around with the men he told you to or he’d beat you. You’d tried to run, but that didn’t end too well.
Then, along came Dorian Grey. (Dt. Jay Halstead.)
[Flashback: The Introduction]
You sighed deeply looking at the red and blue bruises that covered your body, along with the bite marks from the man in the other room. “Get showered and dressed, I have someone coming and I would like you to be dressed and looking good, and cover those up.” He plants a kiss on your cheek. “Alright?”
“Ok.” You simply responded, he slapped and grabbed your bottom, giving it a nice squeeze. “Okay what?”
You looked up at him and forced a smile. “Ok, daddy.” He smiled. “Good, good. Be down in five minutes, be longer and things won’t be good for you. Okay?” He planted a kiss on your forehead then your head. You nod your head going to turn on the shower, you step inside delicately using your body scrub over your body, your soap and body wash. Once your routine was finished, you cleaned your coochie with water and the outside with your feminine wash. Having all of these men running through you, it made you feel dirty. You wanted out but it had become too hard to walk away from this life.
“You made it, and just in time too.” Kevin smiled up at you. “Come, come..”
You smiled a tight-lipped, forced smile, walking around the couch and sat next to him. You held your head low, and over to him. “Babe, this is someone I want you to meet..” he pulls you in closer, your eyes went from Kevin’s that was holding your wrist and pulling you closer to the man standing in front of you. Tall, beautiful man. His blue eyes pierced straight through her soul, the corner of his lip rounded as if he was about to form a smile. You nervously reached out your hand. “Hi.” Dorian shook your hand. “Hi. I’m Dorian.” He smiled.
“Y/n.” You introduced yourself back.
Kevin removed the two of your hands. “Dorian, this is my wife. As long as you’re staying in my home and, handling my business.. I would appreciate that you keep your eyes and hands to yourself,” he kissed your lips, then your neck. “This one’s all mine.” You forced a smile looking at Dorian in the corner of your eyes, he was observing the body language between you two. It spoke volumes.
“All right. I can assure you, I’m not here for that. I’m just here to help out here as much as I can.”
Kevin nods. “Good, you came highly recommended by Daniel, so don’t disappoint. I usually don’t let outsiders in on my operations, but, if Daniel says you’re cool.. you’re cool with me. Baby, why don’t you go and grab me and the man some drinks. And get dinner started? Yeah?”
“Okay, daddy.”
You stood up and walked out the room. You went to Kevin’s office grabbing his scotch and two glasses. Filling both with ice, walking out you handed Kevin’s to him, and went to hand over Dorian’s. His hand touched yours and it caused your hands to shake and a feeling you’d never felt down your spine. “Thank–” He started until you accidentally bumped your toe on the edge of the coffee table spilling the scotch all on Dorian. “Ouch!”
“What the hell woman?” Kevin stood up looking down at you, slapping you hard across the face sending you to the floor.
The glass broke and a piece went into your arm. Dorian’s jawline clenched. “It was an accident, Kevin.” He got down beside you, helping you clean up the mess. “She can take care of that on her own. She’s so incompetent.” You wiped your tears with your bloody arm. “I-I’m sorry. I'm so sorry.” You apologized. Kevin scoffed. “Leave her, Dorian.”
“Boss, she’s hurt.. just let me wipe her wound.”
Kevin smacked his lip. “When you’re done, meet me in my office. Down the hall, first door on the right. We will get you another drink.” He looked down at you. “And when you’re done, you think you can manage to whip up dinner without injury?” You nod. “Words. Speak.” He pressed his fingers together moving his hand up and down. “Yes. I-I can manage.”
“Are you ok?” Dorian asks helping you to your feet
You just looked him in the eyes. He held your waist. “Y-yes. You should go.” He shook his head. “I'm good. Where’s the first aid kit?” You pointed towards the bathroom. “In the cupboard.” He nods, going to get that, you sighed and hissed as you looked at the blood running down your arm. Shaking your head, you just wanted this all to be over. And wanted to just.. go away. Dorian entered the room with the supplies, once he cleaned up your wound, he helped you clean up the glass.
“Thank you.” You said to him standing to your feet. Your eyes locked with his. His with yours.
He smiled lightly. “No problem, Y/n. How’s your toe?” He chuckled, you blushed shaking your head. You were about to answer when you heard someone clearing their throat. “Tonya.” You stepped back from Dorian, turning your attention to her. “What’s going on here?” Tonya was Kevin’s sister, and business partner. She also was the only one who truly seemed to care about you and your well being, and always protected you when she could from her brother. “Nothing.” She nods her head, “Run along.” She told you. You sprinted away.
[end of flashback]
“You know it’s only a matter of time before he finds out about us, Dorian.” You sighed, placing your chin on his chest
Tumblr media
He leans down kissing your lips. “He won’t find out, and just trust me.. soon, I’ll get you away from him.” He ran his hand up and down your back as he held you in his arms. “I want you right now, climb on.” You giggle, getting on his stomach, pushing yourself down to his hard-on, you moaning as you slowly road his dick pressing against his stomach. “Mmm,” you moved your hair to the side as you rode him up and down, he held your hips, guiding you up and down. “Mm, shit. Give me a kiss.” You leaned down, careful not to break your rhythm, his lips pressed against yours. You both moan in sync. You giggle as he flipped you both over, thrusting in and out of you
“Mm, yes!” You moan.
You both stared into each other’s eyes intensely. You broke eye contact, you couldn’t no longer look him in the eyes as you moaned louder, creaming all over his dick as his thrust became harder and deeper. “Ohhh! Dorian!! Fuckkkk!” You screamed out in pure pleasure.
-Hours Later-
You sat up on your knees. “Mm, you leaving?” You pout.
“Yeah, I have some work I have to do. I’ll come check on you later. You sure you gonna be okay here until I’m able to make it back?” He holds your naked body to his clothed, his hands running down your soft brown skin, over the scars, the bruises. “I can’t wait to get you away from him, this life.. you don’t deserve this.”
“Dorian, let’s be real. You can’t take me away from him. He will kill me.”
He shook his head kissing your shoulder. “I’ll never let that happen, you hear me? I love you.” You looked him in the eyes. “W-what?” He smiled, kissing your lips. “You heard me. I love you. Imma protect you.”

-As Halstead
Jay walked into the locker room, sighing deeply. He looked at the photo of him and Hailey that was taped to the locker. Jay was always an honest, caring, loving and noble man. And he loved Hailey. But he loved Y/N.. more if that made sense. Hailey and Jay had been having marital problems for a long time. She’s always been distant with him.. off putting. A little like Y/n in a way but, things with Hailey were just.. sideways. They were separated right now, and he’s been working undercover for the last couple months, but today was the day he’d officially came back to the unit.
His double life was starting to take a toll. He never intended to fall in love with you, but he had. He felt ashamed , unlike himself. And he didn’t know where to begin or.. how he would even tell Hailey that he’s stepped outside of their marriage— even if they were separated– and now you were carrying his child. And he needed to get you out of the situation you were in while Kevin was out of the country on business. “Halstead?”
Jay was knocked out of his trance. He grabbed his badge wrapping it around his neck, grabbing his jacket and closing the locker behind him. “Ruzek.”
The boys shared a brotherly hug. “So glad to have you back.” Jay nods and smiles. “Thank you.” Upton entered the room, she rubbed the skin between her thumb and index finger, Ruzek smiled. “I’ll leave you two to it.” He patted his back, before leaving. Jay rubbed his neck slightly. “Hey.”
“Hey.” She smiled a toothless smile, looking at the man she did love but found herself becoming distant.
He didn’t know and she didn’t know the man he was becoming. “I been calling..” she trailed off. “Yeah, I know I’ve been meaning to get back to you, but you know how it is being under, I can barely get away. You know.” She nodded. “Yeah, but how’s things going?”
“Uh.. it’s gotten complicated but, I’ve gotten closer to–”
He was cut off. “Hey, upton- Halstead!” Kevin smiled walking over and embracing Jay with brotherly love. “Glad you here but hey, we just caught a case.” Jay nods. “We can talk about this later.” He looked at her, walking past and going to the briefing room. It all felt so weird, being back here, being around his friends. If all just felt weird and out of place. He looked down at his phone seeing a message from Tonya.
Tonya: 911. Out back.
He frowned. “Hey uh.. I gotta,” he didn’t speak another word, he grabbed his jacket and wrapped it around him rushing out, he closed the gate doors behind him and walked out the back of CPD. He furrowed his brows.
“So it’s true..” Tonya chuckled shaking her head. “You’re a fucking cop!?”
Jay held his hand up. “Tonya..” she scoffed shaking her head. “None of that matters right now, I went back t the hotel to pick up Y/n..” he furrowed his brows. “Okay and? What happened? Where is she? Please tell me you didn’t bring her here.”
“She’s missing.” Tonya told him. “When I got there..”
She was cut off by Upton running out back. “Jay, we leaving? You coming? Is everything ok?” He rubbed the back of his neck. Tonya laughs. “Wow. Jay? What’s your real name.” He sighs. “Jay.. Jay Halstead.” She sucked her teeth. “You go. Do your job. I’ll find her..”
“Wait,” Jay moved closer to her. “Don’t tell her about this. I want to be the one to tell her and don’t tell your brother.”
She laughs. “I won’t. Long as you keep me out of your little Investigation.. but there’s something you should know.. when I got back to the hotel, there was blood everywhere. You might want to come clean about being in that room or.. stall your people.. I’m sure they investigating it. I can have-”
“Wait hold up, go back, there was what? WHAT ARENT YOU TELLING ME, TONYA!?”
Upton just stood there. Confused, trying to make out what was being said until she heard him shout. Tonya pointed her finger in his face. “It’s gonna be handled. I’m sure she’s all right. I will find her.”
“No.. no.. imma find her.” He brushed past her. “Halstead!” Voight shouted.
Jay turned and looked at him and upton, “Get in.” He told Tonya, she ran around getting in the passenger. He got in his truck and started up the vehicle, speeding out the precinct. “Why you didn’t lead with that Tonya? I need details.. everything you saw or can remember..”
“I’m sure she’s fine.. Dorian, Jay whatever the hell your name is. My brother wouldn’t kill her. If anything he’d rough her up.”
Jay shook his head. “And you think that’s okay?” She shook her head. “No. But I did warn the two of you to stop what you’re doing. If she’s killed, it’s on you.” She spoke with venom looking away from the road over at him. “On you.”
“If anything happens to her, I’ll never forgive myself.”
She shook her head. “Well something did. I don’t know what happened in that room but I’m actually scared.” Jay’s phone rung with Voight’s number. He let out a sharp exhale, answering. “Halstead. Where are you?”
“Something came up. I have to handle it.”
He shook his head. “You want to explain to me why the hotel we’re investigating has your undercover alias name on file? And why I have a room a mess, ransacked and blood everywhere. Jay, what’s going on? Come talk to me before you do anything stupid.. we can do this.. together.”
“This is my mess. I’m going to fix it. Just tell me, is there a body?”
Voight went silent. Jay pulled over and slammed on his break. “Voight, is there a body?”
“Yes.” Jay and Tonya both looked at eachother.

Y/N’s POV
You didn’t even realize that you had fallen asleep. You were woken up by Maggie gently shaking you awake
You opened your eyes with the sunlight blinding you. You reached out to Maggie and she helped you get up.
“Hey is everything okay” You asked
“Jubal and Tiff and even Scola are here their working on taking care of everything” Maggie said
“What about Omar, is he okay?” You asked.
“He’s good he’s still at the Jail but he’s in protective custody right now” Maggie said
“Has anyone talked to him or at least seen him” You asked
“Jubal has he’s in there with him now he’s not alone okay” Maggie said. Grabbing my hand and giving it a tight squeeze.
“Okay good what do we do now” You asked eager to get this whole thing over with.
“First you need to eat okay and relax. There is nothing for you to do now. We're Just waiting for the warrants to come in and then we're going to be handing them out” Maggie said.
“Yeah but there has to be something I can do to help this get along” You asked.
“No Okay there is some food I brought for you so you eat and take care of yourself okay.” Maggie said, smiling at you.
“What about you, where are you going ?” You asked
“I’m going down to meet with the team and help them okay but I promise we will keep you updated every step of the way” Maggie said.
“Thank you Maggie Really for everything” You told her
“Of course we're family I gotta go okay but I’ll see you later”  Maggie said giving your hand one last squeeze and then heading out.
You watched her go leaving you alone in the room again. A knot in your stomach was growing and you tried your best to make it go away.
Maggie was right you probably did need to relax today.
Knowing that the past week has been really hard and stressful. You were getting worried about the twins.
Also Knowing that the stress wasn’t going to be good for them. So you decided it was best to take it easy.
You got up and got the breakfast Maggie got you and headed back to the bed. You laid down ate and watched TV.
It felt like the whole week was catching up to you because your body was hurting and it was so sore. Your feet were swollen and it also felt like your whole body was as well.
The hours were just going by so slow. You kept glancing at the door hoping that Omar or someone would just come in.
They would tell you everything was going to be okay. That we could all go back home.
My anxiety was getting the better of me though. I don’t know if it was better to be out in the field or at home worrying.
Suddenly your phone rang you jumped up and looked at it. It was a unknown number with a text telling you to meet them down by a shady part of town. Now a normal person would have said hell no.
But for some reason you had this overwhelming feeling that you should go. So you got up and threw on some casual clothing and headed out.
You debated on texting someone letting them know where you were going but you decided against it.
They would tell you not to go which was the right thing to do but it was a lot harder said than done.
In Chicago there were so many variants that it could have been. If it was back home in NYC then yeah you probably wouldn’t have gone. Which is way crazier when it’s said out loud.
You headed out to the car and made sure you had all your locations on. The nerves were getting the better of you as you could feel yourself shaking.
It felt like it took forever to get there. Which of course it did.
Finally after a while you reached your destination and got out. There was a person in a black SVU who also got out of the car.
You could feel your heart beating out of its chest wondering who it was.
Then out came Hailey and Voight. You don’t know if seeing the two of them was a relief or should you be more worried.
You hesitantly walk over and they meet you in the middle.
“What do you want” You asked
“You know what it is we want” Voight said
“I thought we were family” Hailey said
You didn’t even really saying anything because you don’t even remember the last time you had a full conversation with her.
“Wow really when was the last time we idk hung out or talked” You said
“And not that any of this matters but I didn’t know what where investigating when we came down to look for OA. We were just worried about him.” You said
“Second of all I’m not the one who started any of this. Your not above the law you can’t do whatever you want and think it’s okay” You said
“I don’t have time for this” You said
“To busy serving those warrants” Voight asked.
You just looked at him and laughed.
“You are going to get everything you have coming to you and I can’t wait to watch” You said.
“Really now I like to see you try” Voight said.
“This is not okay things don’t work like this anymore. People need to be held accountable. For what they do.” You said
“What about your dad” Hailey asked
You looked at her and got upset. He didn’t deserve any of this.
“You were the one who brought him into this. Made him turn into something that he never wanted to become” You said
“If you really loved him the way you say you do then turn yourself in don’t let this become something more than it already is” You said
Of course Hailey didn’t say anything. She just looked down at her shoes. You decided this conversation wasn’t going anywhere and it was best to leave.
You turned and walked away getting into your car. You got in and then your phone went off again. This time it was someone you actually wanted it to be.
Omar’s ID lit up the phone and you quickly answered it.
“Hey where are you, are you okay?” You asked super fast.
“Hey slow down okay I’m fine I technically bailed out and I’m back at the office with Jubal were good” Omar said
You took a giant big breath you felt like a weight had been lifted off of your shoulder and chest.
“I’m coming okay I wanna see you” You said
“Okay of course I’ll be here waiting for you okay so please please be safe” OA said
“I will I love you” You said
“I love you more” OA said
You ended the call and made your way over to him. It finally felt like everything was going okay. OA was safe. And all we needed was to finish handing out those warrants.
You made your way down to the FBI field office. You drove faster than you should have if your being honest. But you were in such a rush to get there.
Finally you made your way there and hurried out the car. Basically running up to where he was.
When you got there he was sitting down at desk by himself. He was in his plain clothes. You could see his face and how tired he was.
“Omar” You shouted.
He looked up and smiled at you and stood up and jogged to where you were. He grabbed you in the tightest embrace you just both just sat like that. Enjoying each other’s embrace.
Finally OA let go and he kissed the top of your head. He let go and looked down at you and took a hand and rubbed your belly for a second.
“How are you really okay don’t lie to me” You asked
“Tired but I’m just glad you here and your safe” OA said
“I’m glad your here to. How much longer until this is all over” You asked
“Not to much longer. We just word that Hailey and Voight are back at the unit and Jubal went over there.”  OA said
“They made me wait here but It’s Okay I don’t mind I’m here with you” OA said grabbing your hand.
“What about Maggie and Scola , and Tiff are they okay” You asked.
“There good they made some of the lower arrest and now there meeting Jubal down at the district” OA said
“So this is it really I mean were all done” You said
“Were done and we are headed home okay. Tomorrow I promise and we are going to get back on track. We got our babies to be focused on” OA said.
“I agree we also need a long vacation too. I wanna go somewhere warm and swim and have my feet in the sand.” You said laughing.
OA grabbed you and pulled you in as close as he could and looked down and smiled at you.
“Sounds amazing honestly and I wanna see you in a nice bikini you would look so hot” OA said smirking at you.
“Then once we go home your gonna take me away. We got time before the babies come” You said
“It’s done I got you” OA said leaning down and kissing you.
“Here sit down Let me get you something to drink and eat” OA said
You sat down in the seat and then looked up at him and smiled and thanked him and he went off.
You wanted to say you were fine but you know that was his way of showing he cared. That he needed it so you didn’t want to argue with him.
He came back a few minutes later with one of those vending machine sandwiches two of them some chips and drinks.
He sat allt the food down in front of you and then sat down next to you.
You passed out the food evenly and he gave you a confused look on his face.
“Well I sure as hell am not gonna eat all this myself” You said
He laughed and opened up the food and you two started eating together. You both were hella hungry and devoured the food together.
Omar’s phone rang and he picked it up. It was a little hard to follow what was going on because he wasn’t saying much to who ever was on the other line.
He hung up the phone and looked at you and smiled.
“They got them Hailey  and Voight. They served the warrants Maggie and Everyone are on the way back here” OA said smiling.
“Thank goddess I am so proud of you. This was all you” You told him.
“No No it was a joint effort” OA said ]
“No don’t do that your the one who came down here your the one who put themselves in danger this was all you.” You said
OA smiled and quietly thanked you he could never openly admit credit for himself. Even when he deserved it.
A little while later the team came back and you both got up and greeted them. Everyone hugged each other.
“Okay everyone I just want to say Good work out there we did good we got what we came for and thanks to OA justice was served” Jubal said.
“No thank you everyone. This was all a team effort I’m glad we can wrap this up and go home” OA said
“Cheers to that. Now let’s go out and celebrate we can finish paper work up back at home” Jubal said.
“You guys go have fun there is someone I want to see before we go home” You said
Everyone nodded and didn’t fight against it. They all knew who you were going to see anyways.
You headed out and made your way down. You thought this victory would make you feel good. But it always hurt when people were left behind to clean up the mess.
You got into your car and drove down. Looking around at the city you grew up in. It no longer was your home anymore. A sad and bitter feeling it was.
You made your way to his apartment building and went up to his unit. You knocked on the door. The nerves were strong and after a few moments your dad opened up the door.
He looked defeated and upset and you couldn’t imagine what he was going through.
“You just gonna stand there or are you coming in” Jay asked giving you a smile.
You walked in and he shut the door behind him and walked over to you. He gave you a big hug. And you hugged him back.
“I love you” Jay said
“I love you more” You said
“I don’t think that’s possible” Jay said
You both let go and you looked at him with a look on your face that was confused and upset .
“You don’t hate me” You asked
Jay looked at you taken back at what you had just said.
“I could never hate you ever. I love you more than anyone in this world and what happened wasn’t your fault I don’t blame you one bit” Jay said
“What are you going to do now” You asked.
“I don’t know honestly. But I think I need to take a step back from Intelligence. I was in talks before this about teaching at the academy. Making sure things are taught right the first time.” Jay said
“You would be amazing at that and they would be so lucky to have you” You told him.
“What about Hailey” You asked
“I think I need to move on start fresh. Figure some things out for myself” Jay said
“Your gonna be okay I know it” You said
“Well I got my grandbabies to look forward to” Jay said
“We can’t wait for you to come down and be there and meet them” You said
“I can’t wait either” Jay said.
“How about you stay here tonight we can have dinner and watch movies together just like we used to” Jay asked.
“I would love to” You said.
You made sure to text OA and tell him where you were spending the night at.
You went into your old room and found some old oversized clothes you used to have and changed into. Pulling the bedding off and headed back out.
You both headed to the couch and the two of you spent the time together. It was nice and I think you both needed it before you left.
After dinner and a couple of movies together you both fell asleep on the couch. Proving no matter how old you were you still needed your dad with you.
The morning came and you kinda didn’t want to leave so soon. You felt like this was the worst way to come down and bond but you were glad it had a happy ending with him.
*****************************************************
Four Months Later….
You were back in NYC and things were finally normal again. You and OA went on a trip when you came back. A last minute trip to Mexico for a week and it was amazing. It was like you both needed the moment to gather yourself together.
Not to mention OA looked hella hot in his bathing suit shorts all though. You didn’t see him that much.
Also you came back with a nice surprise. OA had asked you to marry him. And of course you said Yes. You both were over the moon.
You guys has been busy getting the nursery together and nesting really was a thing. Everything was going good.
The twins were healthy and strong. OA was thriving and he was doing a lot better.
The babies were coming soon. You picked out names finally. The boy was named after OA’s day with Joseph as the middle name.
The girl was Named after his Grandmother with Maggie as a middle name.
Jay was doing good to. He left intelligence and became a instructor at the academy. Him and Hailey didn’t last. But he was happy working on himself.
Kevin became the new Leader of Intelligence after passing his detective exam. They got a new guy named Torres to Join at Jay’s recommendation.
Hailey took a deal. She avoided prison time by turning in Voight. She left Chicago and started over somewhere else. Part of you felt bad knowing Voight just brought her down with him.
Jay and Will were coming down in a few weeks in order to be there for you when you gave birth.
Justice was severed that day. No matter how hard it is you always have to do the right thing no matter what.

Tacones Rojos
Fandom : Chicago PD TV Word count : 4,242 words Pairing : Jay Halstead x reader Author's note : This is the sixth one shot of "Will you follow through if I fall for you" fic continuation. It would be better if you read it first. But if you don't, here's the quick summary. Warning : There is an implied/referenced suicide here. I won't be offended if you back away from the fic because of this. The reference is tiny, non explicit. But it's better to be overcautious than underestimating a possible trigger. I love you, please take care of yourself!

Jay opens the door and lets himself into the house. It has been a good day at work. For once, Chicago's finest criminals are not making too much fuss. The Intelligence Team could get off of work before sundown. They decide to go out for dinner to celebrate Voight’s birthday, which should have been last month, but they were just too busy before.
"Babe?" Jay calls you out.
"Bathroom!" You holler back to let him know where you are. "Thank god you are here early. I thought I had to pick you up at the precinct."
"You haven’t had dinner yet, have you?" Jay walks further into the house. "The team is..." He pauses at the bathroom door, whistling at the vision in the mirror.
There you are in a black dress, sporting a low neckline. The dress has tiered skirts that fall above your knees. It looks lavish yet still modest. Jay fails to figure out how you do it. All he knows is that you look stunning.
Standing behind you, Jay wraps his arms around your waist. "Hi, gorgeous," He kisses your neck. "God, you smell wonderful." Jay moves to kiss the other side. "Not that I mind this lovely welcome, but what's the occasion?"
"You don't remember?" You look to your side without moving away from his embrace.
Jay frowns, "What? I didn't forget your birthday, did I?" He jokes.
You turn around, resting your hip on the bathroom counter. One of your eyebrows raises, full of judgment.
"I'm pretty sure it is not our anniversary?" Jay asks meekly.
Now both of your eyebrows turn into an arch.
"Well, I'm sorry I don't remember," In an attempt at his apology, Jay brings your hands to his lips. "Please..."
"I have this invite from The Tribune, a dinner party for their contributors," You let go of his hands. Turning back to face the mirror, you put on the last touch of your makeup. "I told you about this, right? They invited me since I am writing for their music column now."
"Ah, yes," Jay grimaces. "That is tonight?"
"Yeah. I thought you were here early because you remembered."
"Sorry," Jay shrugs his shoulders. "I was going to take you to the Chop House. The team is celebrating Voight’s birthday tonight."
"Wasn’t it like a few weeks ago? I remembered sending him a bottle of malt for a gift." You glance at Jay's reflection in the mirror as you put on a pair of earrings.
"It was, but we haven’t had the chance to celebrate it until tonight."
"Well, I guess we have to skip his party then." You usher Jay and walk with him to step out of the bathroom.
"Let’s go to Chop House first, just to say hi. Then we will go to your party." Jay proposes his plan.
You scoff at his idea. "It is not my party. It is the Chicago Tribune Contributors Dinner." You sit carefully on the couch before putting on a pair of red strappy heels. "It is a formal dinner, Jay. Suit and tie and invites and all." You gesture to your whole look from top to toe. "You cannot be as late as you want."
You stand up and continue your ranting. "Seriously, I don’t know why I expect any difference this time. It is such a classic thing Jay Halstead would do. You always think about your team first. Everything else comes second."
"Hey, that’s not true!" Jay snaps back. "Look, I’m sorry I forgot about your dinner invites, but it doesn’t mean I care more about my job than about you." Jay is perplexed to find out how dinner invitations could turn into spats. Is it so unforgivable to forget something?
"I tried, Jay. I tried as much as I could to understand that your job comes first. I accepted that your team is your family. I get it, Jay! I wish you could give me even a tiny part of that same devotion you have for them."
"Well, it seems you understand nothing, huh, Y/N?" Jay gets provoked by the high tension. "Because all I heard here is that you complained about all the time spent at my job. Do you want to talk about my work? Then I should have brought about your job in the first place." Jay points his finger in your direction. "I never say anything when you have gone abroad for weeks to make some music and million dollars. So maybe, it is you who is not devoted to this relationship."
You feel enraged by his accusation. You wanted to fight back, but fighting with words is not your best forte. You would only end up choking and crying, which you have no time for now.
"You know what? I cannot do this with you right now." You check your purse. "I’m almost late. Please send my apologies to your team." You grab a coat on your way out. "Don't forget to lock up when you go."
With that, you leave the house and your angry boyfriend in it.
◢◤
“What are you doing here? I thought you had an important dinner date with your Dancing Queen?” Hailey asks Jay when he comes to the steak house by himself.
"Stop calling her that." Jay scolds his partner.
"Well, she danced, and she acted like a diva. I'm just calling what I'm seeing." Hailey shrugs.
"You never saw her dance, you liar!" Jay laughs. "For a DJ, she is an awful dancer."
"But you agree that she is a diva wannabe," Hailey points out what Jay left out.
"No, she is not. Just because she is the only famous musician you met doesn't mean she is a diva." Jay rolls his eyes. "You should give her a chance, Hailey. You keep offending her like this without getting to know her personally. It is not fair, you know?" Jay defends his girlfriend.
"Well, if she were here now, I would." Hailey takes a sip of her beer.
“No, you would not,” Jay calls out her bullshit.
“No, I probably wouldn’t,” Hailey admits with a cunning grin. “So you bailed on the dinner date, huh?”
“It was more like I forgot. But apparently, that is a punishable crime.” Jay frowns in disgust.
“Ah, lovers’ quarrel. I will not touch that with a ten-foot pole." Hailey raises her hands. “You guys are fun to watch, like a teenage drama. Sickeningly sweet in one episode, then broke up in the next one.”
Jay rolls his eyes, “We are not breaking up. We are just having a spat.”
“The fact that you pointed it out makes you sound like a teenage boy,” Hailey teases him. “Relax. The thing about a diva is that they are fickle. By tomorrow, you will be madly in love again."
“Ergh, I don’t know why I bother to talk to you about this.” Jay waves his hand, terminating their conversation. "You are not helping,"
◢◤
Two hours into the event, you are getting bored already. The party is fun, and the food is alright, but your heart's not in it. Mostly, it was because you left home with a bitter taste of fighting with your boyfriend. Deep down, you understand that you are not being fair to Jay. His job is hard on your relationship, but your frequent trips abroad for your job are also not easy to handle. Neither of you nor Jay is entitled to feel singled out. This evening spat was just you losing grip of your insecurity, and you lashed it out at Jay.
However, you are too upset to admit that you are in the wrong as much as Jay. Right now, your fight response still runs high. It is almost 9.30 PM. It would be too late to visit your usual jiu-jitsu dojo. The one near Grant Park might still be open, though, you remind yourself. Sparring for an hour and a half would be good before you face Jay. That way, you hope to get rid of any negative energy. Then, you can talk to Jay more openly.
You leave the party around 10 PM. Instead of calling a cab, you walk to the bus stop. There is a gas station and a minimarket across the street. You decide to drop by for a bar of chocolate. It is far from the artisan dark chocolate you have at home, but you always have this craving for chocolate at an upsetting moment. Chocolates, and physical fights, are now becoming your antidepressant.
You smile at the middle-aged guy at the cash register who hands you your purchase. The bell above the door clinks as three guys step into the store. They go straight to the alcohol section.
The guy at the register sighs loudly. He looks about the same age as Jay’s brother, Will, but the suffering on his face might add a few years more. “Delinquents,”
You nod your understanding and offer him another smile in farewell. “Have a good night,”
The street is pretty deserted as you walk to the bus stop. Not a lot of people walk around. There are only a couple of cars passing by. You open and take a bite of the chocolate bar, waiting for your bus to come. You notice the guys are leaving the store with beer bottles in their hands. They cross the street and hang around the bus stop.
Before long, the catcalls begin.
“Where are you going, long legs?” One of them asks you. “Those heels, woohoo. I could climb those legs forever,”
Ignoring them should be the right way to go, you think. As the wind picks up, you tighten your coat to warm yourself.
“I wonder, what's under the coat? What do you think, dude?” The punks talk to each other.
“Tight dress,”
“Lace,”
“Nothing, maybe?”
"Eeeey!" They trade high fives and cackles, supporting the others' wild imaginations. All while they are stepping closer to where you stand.
From across the street, you hear the cash register guy shout, “Hey, leave her alone, you scoundrel!”
You understand how this looks. Some crooks are harassing a woman. People with high morals will try to help, of course. It is normal to assume a young woman will be helpless. But this time, they have the wrong assumption. Because as far as you can see, there are no vulnerable women around here.
Honestly, you feel giddy. You might not have to go to the dojo for a fight after all.
“What are you gonna do, old man?” One of the punks challenges him. He dares to grab your ass, taunting the cash register guy.
Yes, you got your fight! You are fist-pumping internally.
In a blink of an eye, the guy who touches you drops down on the pavement, holding his hand in pain. His friends look shocked for a moment. But being beaten down by a girl would be embarrassing.
“You, bitch!”
Naturally, they quickly strike back.
The fight is pretty one-sided. Three street thugs are no match for one jiu-jitsu purple belt. A throw down this way. Another sweep that way. One chokehold here. Lock that arm there. If they resist, then broken bones are unavoidable. It is not your fault that they decide to disturb a woman who just happened to be a jiu-jitsu student.
Until the punk that first went down gets back up to point a gun at you.
You let out a groan, “Seriously?” You hate guns. It is not because you are afraid of them or have any doubt about your bare hand fighting skill. You know it would only take you five seconds to unarm that guy. But firearms are loud and they tend to get messy. The ringing in your ears, the smell of powder residues, not to mention the blood stains. Ughh.
You make a side step forward as the man pulls the trigger. A slight miscalculation on your side allows the bullet to graze your arm. But in 20 seconds, the gun finds its way to your hand. The previous holder of the gun is down on the pavement with his palm under your pointy heels. The guy yells in pain, calling all deities and dirty words in the same sentence.
“Drop the gun!” You look up to find a cop car on the side of the road, and two police officers point their guns at you. “Drop the gun and show your hands!” The officer repeats.
You release the magazine from the gun before tossing it to the ground. That skill you learn not from the dojo but instead from your boyfriend. One of the officers then moves to secure your hands behind your back with cuffs.
“Oww,” You moan once you feel the wound on your arm.
◢◤
Trudy Platt is doing a crossword puzzle at her station when she sees a couple of her patrol officers bring a familiar face into the station. She stops the officers on their way, “Hey, Reyez, what happened here?”
“Dispatch called for a possible assault at South Western Avenue. Found this lady beating down three guys. All of them were at The Med now. One was unconscious. Another one ended up with a broken arm. The other’s leg was…” The officer shivers as he remembers the abnormal angle the guy’s leg was.
“Have you asked her to explain what happened?”
“She refused to talk outside this specific precinct, Sarge,” Officer Harris answers the sergeant.
Platt throws a disbelieving look at her officers and you.
“Hi, Sergeant Platt,” You grin at Trudy. “I’d wave, but…” You wiggle as much as you can, being restrained by Officer Harris.
“Why, you little diva,” Platt sighs out loud. She returns to her desk to make a phone call.
“Should I continue to process her, Sarge?” Officer Reyez asks.
Sgt. Platt waves her hand dismissively, “Just put her in the holding cell for now,”
◢◤
The ringing of Voight's cell phone interrupts the laughter at their table. Their meals have been polished by now. They are still around for glasses of wine, fingers of bourbon, and lots and lots of beer. They might've as well moved to a bar, but they're too full to get up from their chairs.
"Voight," The leader answers his phone. The team watches him, hoping they don't get called for a case.
Voight listens in silence for a few moments until he lets out an "Excuse me?" in an indignant tone. "What was that again?"
It seems the person on the phone repeats the same message because Voight shakes his head as if to disagree. "Okay, just stay put. We'll be right there,"
"Please don't tell me we got a case, Sarge. My ribeye has not fully digested yet," whines Adam as he pats his stomach.
"No, no. We're still on stand down. It's just Platt needed me back at the station," Voight pushes himself out of the chair. He opens his wallet and hands his credit card to Kim. "One more round, then wrap this up. Can't let you alcoholics break my wallet," The team laughs at him. Voight nods his head in Jay's direction. "Halstead, you need to come with me,"
"Sarge?" Jay stands up from his chair, confused.
"Good night, guys. See you tomorrow," Voight waves goodbye and leaves the table. He doesn't wait to see if Jay follows him. Voight expects him to.
Jay looks around questioningly at the table. However, the rest of the team is as perplexed as him.
"Go." Hailey ushers him to follow their leader. "Give us a call if you need help,"
"Hopefully you won't, but yeah, man, let us know if you need anything," Adam echoes the sentiment.
Jay quickly catches Voight on his way out of the restaurant.
"You good to drive, Halstead?" Voight asks him.
"Legally? Probably, no. But, I'm good, Sarge," Jay admits to his leader. He might be a little tipsy, but he drove in a worse state before, and it was fine.*)
"Okay then, meet me back at the station," Voight orders him. "Safely, Jay," He emphasizes his point.
"Yes, sir. Can I ask what this is about, Sarge?" Jay cannot hold his curiosity.
"I'll tell you when we get to the precinct," Voight leaves Jay with that.
◢◤
"Ah, good, you're here," Trudy greets them from her desk as soon as she sees Voight and Halstead. She hands a piece of paper for them to read.
Jay widens his eyes as he reads the report, "What the fuck is this?"
"You sort it out. It's not like I have no other papers to file anyway," Platt waves them to the holding cell direction.
"Sarge, this cannot be true, right?" Jay questions his boss.
"Let's ask Y/N," Voight leads them to the temporary cell.
They walk inside the precinct and stop in front of the iron bars. There is only one person there, and it's you.
"Y/N!" Jay calls your name. "You okay?"
"Hi, Jay! Fancy seeing you here. I'm great! Bullet wound and all," You grin from the bench inside the holding cell. "Oh, good evening, Sergeant Voight," You wave to the elder man.
"If you don't want to come to my birthday dinner, you should've said so, Y/N. No need to make some fuss with this arrest." Voight quips.
You snort a laugh, "Sorry, sir."
"Can we not joke about this? I thought you were at the Tribune party, Y/N. Why are you on the street getting shot and beating people up?" Jay sounds agitated.
"Well, they were bothering me with the catcalls. It was creepy as hell. Then one of them got physical. So I got physical too, you know what I mean?" You shrug your shoulders.
"Yeah, I know. I read the report," Jay huffs in exasperation.
"In an actual, official report? Oh, wow. I didn't expect that." You sound impressed with yourself.
"Of course, there is a report. You almost killed three men!! Do you understand that??" Jay is getting more hysterical.
"Almost is the operative word," You calmly point out.
Jay pinches his nasal bones in distress. "Can I get her out of here, Sarge?" He finally asks Voight.
Voight watches their banter with his hands in his pockets. He takes a moment to ponder.
"Hey, Y/N. What brought up this urge to kill?" Voight questions you.
"Sir?" You don't catch what he meant.
"I know you hold a purple belt. You practice jiu-jitsu a lot. Usually, you are more patient and tolerant than this," Voight elaborates. "So, I asked again, what happened tonight?"
You know what happened tonight. Pent up frustration at Jay and at yourself that has been left unsolved. If you didn't leave the house angry at your partner, you probably would not have to spend the night in a police station.
You keep your mouth shut, not interested in letting Voight know the truth. You look down at your feet, breaking eye contact with the sergeant. Your feet are bare since the officers asked you to take your heels off. Assault weapons, they said. You stepped your weight on someone's palm and broke their fingers along the way. Killer heels indeed.
Jay also decides to look away from you and Voight. The sergeant notices this. So both of them understand the reason, which clued him in on why this happened.
"I see how it is," Voight exhales. "Alright, I give you an out this one time, Y/N. Next time you beat thugs on the street, try harder not to kill them, okay? Refrain yourself to bump and bruises only,"
Jay gapes at his leader, "Sarge!" He cannot believe Voight is validating your violent action.
You throw a half smile at Voight, "Thank you, sir,"
"And make sure you come to the next team hangout, whenever that happens." Voight continues his order.
"I'll try, Sarge,"
"No, no. Don't just try. You have to be there," Voight corrects you. "First third rounds shall be on you. That's the least you can do after crashing my party," Voight then leaves the couple to sort that damn paper Platt has on her desk.
Jay goes with him to find the officer who holds the cell key. When he gets the door open, he notices your feet are bare. "Where're your shoes?"
"Don't know," You shake your head. "Evidence, maybe?"
"What the fuck are your shoes doing in Evidence?" Jay mutters as he steers you to Sgt. Platt's desk.
"You need to sign this," Trudy pushes some papers towards you. "And these are the rest of your belongings,"
First, Trudy puts a plastic bag that holds your purse and its content. You only bring your phone, your ID and a few notes. They are all there.
Then she follows with your shoes. You groan in regret at the sight of your poor shoes. One of the heels broke. The intricate strappings are all snapped and tangled. You have no idea if they are salvageable.
"They are my favorite stilettos," You pout.
"Should have thought twice before aiming that blade into someone's hand," Trudy tells you straight, sans empathy.
She finally puts the last item on her desk, which is your coat.
The coat has a new decoration now. There is one bullet hole in the left upper arm. You remember being grazed by a bullet earlier this night. A paramedic tended your wound at the crime scene. You can still feel the twinge at the bandaged arm even now.
Your eyes begin to tear up upon seeing the state of the outerwear. It was a gift from your dear friend who took his own life a few years ago. It saddened you to find his last gift was ripped by common thugs on the street. It felt like you tainted his memories for something mundane and avoidable. If only you agreed with Jay this evening, none of these would happen. You quickly wipe the corner of your eyes before the tears fall.
Jay doesn't miss that. Without saying anything, he brings you into a hug. Jay never met that friend, but he knows how important he was to you. His sudden departure shook you hard. It made you stop working for months. Until Jay forced you to speak, telling him how you feel, what your thoughts about it. They discussed how to move forward. How wilting away in sorrow was disrespectful to that friend’s life and legacy. Only then you were willing to enter your studio to make music again.
"Shh, it's okay, Love. You're okay," Jay whispers sweet nothings in your ears. He peppers your head with comforting kisses. "We can fix it," Jay promises. You know that he is not just talking about the torn coat.
Not knowing the story behind the coat, Trudy asks rudely, “What? Was it a $30k coat? Yeah, I would cry over that too,"
Above your head, Jay glares at Trudy’s insensitivity. Instead of being sad, her comment makes you laugh. You let go of Jay’s embrace and put on the holey coat. “Nah. If the coat were that expensive, those guys would be dead already,” You retort.
“New house rule! No more violence from you except at the dojo!” Jay points a finger in your direction, enforcing his words. “No assaults, no slaughters, especially over a piece of clothes!”
“We’ll see about that, babe. We’ll see…” You pat him on the shoulders, unconvinced by his rule.
“I don’t need to know your household issue. Get out of here, you rascals!” Trudy shoos them out of the precinct.
◢◤
At home, you and Jay are back in the bathroom. Still wearing your party dress, you sit on the closed toilet. Jay crouches next to you as he repatches your bullet wound.
“Sorry, sorry,” Jay whispers when he sees you wincing.
“I think that is my line,” You tell him.
“Huh?” Jay asks, distracted as he tightens the bandage. “All done,” His face is still hovering around your shoulder, checking his handiwork.
You look to your left. Without prompts, you catch Jay's lips in a kiss.
“I’m sorry,” You murmur. “for tonight. I should not be angry at you for such trivial things,”
Jay shakes his head, “No, I’m sorry I forgot. I should have paid better attention to you and our relationship,”
“I didn’t mean it when I said those things. I was just upset. Not a great excuse, but I’m still sorry. I know you are in this 100%.” You tell him, still in a quiet tone. As if increasing your voice would break the mood. “And so am I. Please, believe me,” You grab his hands to convince him.
Jay shushes you, “I know. I should not accuse you like that. I know it was wrong, I’m sorry. You should know that I have never doubted you, your love, or your commitment,” He presses his lips to yours in assurance. “Ever.”
You twitch your lips, smiling, “I guess both of us have apologized and forgiven, then?”
Jay nods, “Uh huh. You know what to follow, right?” He replies with an indecent grin.
“I’m not sure,” You play along. “You better show me what it is,” You wrap your hands above Jay’s shoulders, placing your palms behind his neck.
Jay pulls you up to your feet. His hands wander from your back to your hips. “I will. As soon as I find the damned zipper on this dress.”

Carefully and Intentionally
Tumblr media
Summary: Jay always meets Hailey’s eye level when they’re in a conflict, something she learns has a deeper meaning than she recognizes. After years of experiencing this small act of love for herself, she finally gets to watch him share it with someone else.
Writer’s Note: Hi!! This story has been in my WIPs folder for months now and I only just found the inspiration to finish it. The way Jay bent over to make himself level with Hailey during the conflict scenes in 9x07/9x09 stuck out to me, so this one shot is heavily inspired by that. It was also inspired by the type of parents I think upstead (Jay in particular) will be one day. I hope you enjoy!!

Jay Halstead - Overnight Dad
Tumblr media
{not my gif}
Chapter 3
Three days had passed and things had moved slowly. Jamie had warmed up to Hailey which Jay was relieved at but also slightly jealous. But Hailey had left you two alone to see if you could get somewhere. “So kiddo, what do you feel like watching?” Jay asked as he sat down on the sofa next to Jamie who was sitting cuddling her teddy.
“Can we watch Tangled please?” She asked in an almost whisper taking Jay by complete surprise. She hadn’t said a word to him since moving in. He couldn’t contain the smile on his face, “Eh yeah, sure” He watched as she situated her teddy beside her and tucked him under the blanket, she really was a sweet kid. He just wished he knew how to break the ice properly.
Jamie on the other hand was craving her dads affection but she didn’t know how to speak to him. She knew that she felt safe with him which was weird for only knowing him for less than two weeks. But she enjoyed watching him hum as he made her sandwiches and how he always made sure half eyed ted, that was the name her of her teddy, he only has half an eye left, is always near her. They sat in a comfortable silence as they watched the movie. Jay was sat with his arm resting along the top of the sofa too engrossed in Rapunzel singing I have a dream to notice that Jamie had slid along the sofa, cuddling into his side along with half eyed ted. It wasn’t until he felt her tiny hand placing the blanket on his leg that he realised that this was the first time that he had hugged his own daughter. A huge smile crept along his face as he placed his arm over her shoulders and cosied her in, cautiously watching to make sure she didn’t feel uncomfortable. When she looked up at him and smiled Jay truly knew he’d made the right decision.

Food can be a love language
A/N: You can thank being stuck in a car for several hours for this one shot!
Growing up in and around abuse, Hailey learned real quick to latch onto anything - no matter how big or small - for comfort. For her that comfort became food, especially feeding others.
Despite her father using food as a way to apologize after rough nights, she chose this comfort method due to the way she watched her mother interact with it.
She witnessed her mother making sure any vendors or handymen who came through the diner, got fed. Either while sitting there or in a box being sent with them to their truck.
She also witnessed how her mother, despite being hurt herself, chose to make sure that the women's shelter in town got all the leftovers from the end of the night.
So it's no surprise that when she grew up that comfort that surrounded food became her love language. Here are 3 times she brought that love language into her relationship with Jay Halstead and 1 time Jay reciprocated the love language.
1. The first time Hailey used food as a love language was when Jay's father died.
After what happened at the River walk, Voight sent Jay home. And since he had used all of his friends as his own personal punching bag, he didn't expect anyone to come visit and he used that fact to let himself grieve his loss.
So when there was a knock at his door, he didn't expect Hailey to be standing there with a pan of food.
"Hailey, what are you doing here?" He rasped out.
"I know you've had a shit few days and with the loss of your dad, I thought I'd stop by and bring you food!" She stated while making her way inside his apartment.
"I really just want to be alone," Jay responded.
"Nope! But I did bring you a pan of pasticho, it's my yiyas recipe"
All he could do was smile and hug her.
2. The second time she shared her love language was after Jay came home from the hospital after being kidnapped and shot.
Jay knew Hailey was driving him home from the hospital, but he didn't think she would be putzing around his kitchen while he sat on the couch.
"What are you doing?" Jay asked while walking into the kitchen.
Hailey stopped stirring the pot and looked up at her partner, "Jay, your supposed to be resting on the couch"
He rolled his eyes and asked again, "what are you doing?"
Hailey walked him back to the couch and helped him sit down, "I'm making hilopites, it's squares soup and will be done soon, so sit!"
3. The third time she brought her love language into her relationship was after the case where Jay realized the Army gave him a bias.
After dispersing from the crime scene, instead of going to Molly's, Hailey drove Jay to her apartment. She had promised to buy him a beer, but didn't specify from where. So she decided to take him back to hers, since she had baklava leftover from the previous weekend when she hung out with her mother.
"Ooh, I see it's a beer and Greek dessert kind of night," exclaimed Jay when they walked into her kitchen.
"Well, considering the day you had, I couldn't just offer up beer," laughed Hailey while grabbing 2 beers from the fridge.
"Thank you for this," cried Jay.
1. The first time Jay used Hailey's love language in their relationship was after the case where she jumped into Lake Michigan in the middle of winter.
The two of them had finally made it back to the apartment after the long day they had. Hailey was taking a shower to help her warm up more and hopefully avoid getting sick. The minute Jay heard the water turn on, he ran into the kitchen and began cooking.
20 minutes later, when Hailey emerged from the master bedroom, she walked into the kitchen and stated, "it smells good in here. Are you making Avgolemono?"
Jay smiled sheepishly and responded, "yea, I wanted to make you soup so you could warm up and I thought I'd try out a Greek recipe instead of plain old chicken noodle soup."
Smiling, Hailey hugged her husband and stated, "I love you Jay Halstead! You are the best husband ever!"
THANK YOU FOR READING!!! REBLOGS/LIKES ARE MUCH APPRECIATED! ALSO FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

Detective Stalker - Jay Halstead
Tumblr media
Fandom: One Chicago
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Request: Could I request a Jay Halstead x Reader where the reader just moved to Chicago and is Jay's neighbor and maybe they keep bumping into each other and she is concerned he is stalking her?
•••
Moving to a big city was a dream of yours since you were basically a child watching those cheesy coming of age movies, so when you landed a job as a teacher in Chicago you didn't think twice about grabbing this opportunity.
It was also the first time you were going to live completely by yourself and you were anxiously waiting to see if the apartment you rented solely by seeing some pictures was actually matching them...because let's be serious the last thing you needed was to be scammed in a city you basically didn't know a single soul. But so far everything was running smoothly. Picking up one of the last boxes from your car you were patiently waiting for the elevator to arrive when all of a sudden it's doors opened and a tall man rushed out almost knocking the box out of your hands. "Oh sorry" he mumbled quickly checking to see if you were fine then making his way out of the building. You barely had any time to react to what just happened let alone say something and you turned around to see who was the unknown neighbor. Despite being in a rush you caught him looking at you from the entrance door but he quickly left as you locked eyes with him. Brushing off the weird encounter, you made your way up to your apartment without thinking much about it.
On the other hand, Jay's mind wondered all throughout the day to the mysterious neighbor who he just so rudely bumped into. He had just gotten a call in regards of a case that was giving him quite a headache, so he had to get to the precinct as soon as possible, otherwise he wouldn't have minded stopping and having a quick chat with her...still he hoped he will unintentionally bump into her again soon.
//
The following day you had just returned from your first day as a teacher at your new school. You were over the moon happy as you genuinly thought this job was a great match and even your colleagues seemed very welcoming. Getting out of your car your eyes scanned the almost empty parking lot just to see the stranger who bumped into you a few feet away leaning on his car and talking on the phone. As he noticed you, he cracked a small smile and soon enough drove off leaving you in disbelief.
Despite being a very positive person trying to see the good in everyone, you weren't naive to the fact that you were a young woman living by herself in a normal apartment building.
You heard stories about people being stalked but to you the idea was so far fetched and almost movie-like, but soon enough it seemed actually more and more possible. When going to a late gym session you were surprised to yet again bump into the same guy who so conveniently seemed to be in the same place as you since you moved there.
All these encounters happened in your first week in Chicago which made you worry a little, plus the stress of setting up a classroom and get to know so many people, as friday night approached all you wanted was to relax and watch a movie. Just as you finally got the chance to sit down on the couch a knock on the door disturbed your peace. With a heavy sigh you dragged yourself towards it and didn't even bother to look theough the peak hole. "Hi, I hope I'm not disturbing...I'm Jay." The mysterious man who you automatically labeled as a stalker was standing right in front of you with a very charming smile on his face. "No, it's fine! I'm Y/N", you answered shaking the hand he extended and just as you looked down you noticed his badge clipped on his pants, which gave you a bit of relief. "I saw you around this week and I wanted to bring you this as I assumed you just moved in...I live down the hall" he spoke and handed you a nice bottle of wine which you took with a smile. "Anyways it was good meeting you. I'm gonna head home, I just got off work." and before he could walk away you intervened "Why don't you come in and we could open this bottle of wine?" Seeing he hesitated and most likely was about to decline you continued "Come on, I'm new to the city and I have no aquintances here let alone any friends"
Your persuasion skills seemed to work and he made his way into your apartment. Heading towards the kitchen to pick up two wine glasses you couldn't help but glance at him as he took off his jacket. "So where did you move from?" He asked as you poured the wine in the glasses. "Indiana, I got a job here in Chicago as a teacher." Answering you took a sip out of the glass "And you I assume...you're a police officer right?" "Yes I am...detective actually." Chuckling as you remembered all the things that went through your head throughout this week you just had to get it off your chest. "This is going to sound very embarrassing but...we ran into each other so many times that I genuinly thought you were stalking me." "Do you invite all your presumed stalkers into your apartment? Because this seems like a safety hazard for you..." he spoke very amused at what you just disclosed. You spent the next 2 hours talking and getting to know each other and even finishing the bottle of wine he brought as a welcome gift, which promted a lot of good laughs. You found out about his time as an Army Ranger, how he came up to be a detective in the Intelligence Unit and you also shared some stories about yourself which he seemed very interested into.
Looking at the watch on his wrist he realized it was nearing midnight "I should head home it's getting late and I'm working tomorrow." "It was very nice to meet you Detective Stalker, thanks for stopping by." You spoke articulating those two words which earned you a chuckle from him. Walking him towards the door you knew this wasn't going to be your last encounter and just the thought of seeing him again soon gave you a very warm and fuzzy feeling. "Here's my card...you let me know when you're free so we can grab dinner maybe." He said and you nodded in agreement. As you said your good nights both of you were left with a great feelimg about each other which would further develop into something more.

“Get to Med… Jay’s been shot.”
As she waits in the waiting room at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, the sound of her sergeant’s words echoes in her ears. Her heart is racing, her knee is bouncing, her hands are trembling, and dried up tear streaks run down her face. She feels like she’s been sitting in the room for an eternity, waiting for any news about her husband’s condition. He was already in surgery by the time she got at the hospital, which was a little more than two hours ago.
“Y/N!” she hears her partner, Kim Burgess, call out as she approaches her. When the brunette reaches her, she embraces her tightly.
After Jay and Y/N revealed their relationship to Voight, the two women became partners. They’ve been like sisters since they went through the academy together, and they got even closer after Y/N and Hailey Upton were transferred to Intelligence after Erin Lindsey left.
“Has there been any news?”
“I haven’t heard anything; Will just went to see if he can get an update,” she says before breaking down again. “I can’t lose him, Kim,” she cries into the shoulder of her best friend. “I can’t do it without him. We just got married. I can’t be without him.”
“Jay’s strong; he’ll get through this,” Kim reassures her as she rubs her back and squeezes her even tighter; it crushes her heart to see her best friend and chosen sister like this.
“Did you get the person who shot him?” she says, pulling away from Kim and angrily wiping away the fresh set of tears that are falling.  The anger in eyes and voice wasn’t intended for her partner, or Adam who had been with Jay at the time of the shooting, or the rest of their team but at the guy who fired the gun at her husband and shot him. She begged Hank to give her five minutes with the person when they apprehended him, but Hank ordered her to stay at the hospital because that’s where she needed to be the most and swore he wouldn’t go easy with the guy.
Kim replies, moving to sit in the chair next to the one she was in, “He’s in custody. Voight’s making his life a living hell, I’m sure of it.”
She sits back down next to her and asks, “How’s Ruz?”
“He’s blaming himself,” Kim replies. “He’ll be here when he’s cleaned himself up, and the others will be here after they’ve finished with the interrogation.”
She nods, letting Kim know she heard her.
Minutes pass as they sit in quiet, Kim holding her hand and reminding her that she is not alone. Will eventually returns and informs her that there haven’t been any updates just yet before he leaves once more to grab them all some coffee.
Just as Will comes back with Adam following behind him, the surgeon walks into the waiting room.
As he approaches, Y/N and Kim get to their feet. As the doctor begins to talk, Will moves to stand next to his sister-in-law. “Surgery went smoothly. We removed the bullet, stopped the bleeding, and repaired the damage the bullet caused. Jay will make a full recovery, but he will need to take it easy for some time.”
Y/N exhales with relief, “I’ll make sure he does. Can we see him?”
“Two at a time,” the doctor says with a nod.
“Adam and I will go update everyone,” Kim says to her and Will before exiting the waiting room with Adam.
The doctor leads Will and Y/N to the room where Jay has been moved. Jay opens his eyes and looks sleepily at his wife and brother as soon as they enter the room.
“Oh, baby,” Y/N breathes as she walks over to his bed and takes his hand in hers, looking at him with tenderness. “Please don’t put me through that again.”
“I can’t make any promises,” he says drowsily with a small smile. He raises her hand and kisses the back of it.
“How are you feeling?” Will asks as he stands beside Y/N.
Jay jokes with a slight smirk on his lips, “Like I was shot.
Y/N scowls at him, not in the mood for jokes right now, and says, "Don’t joke.”
“You love me, and you know it,” he gives her a small smile letting her know he’s teasing her.
“I need to get back to work, but I’ll stop by after my shift,” Will tells his brother, stopping Y/N from that is retaliating. “I’ll make sure to bring you some decent food.”
“Thank you, Will,” she says as he exits the room. Looking back at her husband, she sits on the edge of the hospital bed, clutching his hand on her lap. “I was so scared I would lose you.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he assures her. “We still have a lot to do together.”
She leans down and gives him a soft kiss while whispering, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he replies as he kisses her again. “Now, come lie down with me.”
“You’ve just gotten out of surgery. I don’t want to cause you more pain.”
“They’ve got me on the good stuff, honey, and after what I just went through, all I want to do is hold my wife and remind her that us Halstead’s aren’t easy to take down,” he says and pulls her close to him, moving them so she can lay down beside him.
With his arm across her shoulders and her head on his, he presses a kiss to her forehead and whispers, “I promised you forever. I’m keeping that promise.”

Cops and Bakers: Southern Caffeine
Jay Halstead x Baker!Cordelia Micheals (OC) Warnings: None i think
Author note: As always, feedback is greatly appreciated
Lemon Drops Cafe and Bakery. Big bright yellow and white letters read, and slight lemon decals surrounded the sign. Jay checked his phone before entering the shop; Hailey had insisted that the ex-army ranger get the morning coffee from the new bakery since the one in the break room was utterly broken. Pushing the glass door open, a light twinkle of a bell announced Jay’s presence. A head popped through the doorway that seemed to lead to the kitchens.
“I’ll be with you in a second.” A southern drawl stunned Jay.
The inside of the bakery was just as cozy as the exterior. Clusters of yellow chairs were pushed into three wooden tables, each bearing a yellow and white lemon tablecloth and varying-sized pillow. Along the opposite wall rests a series of tall displays, most filled with either what smelt like fresh loaves or display cakes. Turning more towards the counter, Jay noticed that in between the large coffee machine and the small portion of the counter dedicated to the register was a large display cupboard partially filled with cookies, cupcakes and some savory treats. Along the wall behind the counter, Jay could see an assortment of coffee bean bags that looked like they had yet to be packed away in the above cupboard and potted plants. The bakery overwhelmingly filled Jay with a sense of calm, and he loved the welcoming, cozy, homely environment that Hailey had sent him into.
A young woman soon walked out of the kitchen doorway and greeted Jay warmly. Her Chocolate brown curly hair was haphazardly thrown into a bun, and a yellow ribbon wrapped around the tie. She wore a white short-sleeved shirt beneath a pale yellow apron and chocolate brown pants. Her apron was covered in white dashes of flour and smudges of frosting and chocolate. The pin on her apron read Cordelia, a sticker of a small bundle of lemons decorating the rest of the pin. When Jay’s eyes reached her face, he took note of the imperfect splash of flour that dusted her cheeks and the bright smile that graced her features.
“Good Morning. What can I get ya?” Her voice was perfectly airy and sweet, like the melody of his favourite song. For once, the voice wasn't dull or uninterested; instead, it sounded like she genuinely wanted to be covered in flour dust and chocolate smudges at nearly 6:30 in the morning.
“Four large double shot coffees and Hailey Uptons usual.” He recited the order that Hailey had given him only ten minutes earlier. Jay moved to open his wallet to pay when Cordelia simply shook her head.
“No need to pay, it's on the house.” Her smile was blinding as she moved further down to the coffee machine, Jay following.
“At least let me tip you or something”, Jay argued as the women moved expertly around the small area, quickly making the coffee’s and packing a small box full of freshly baked treats.
“Please, this is the least I can do for you guys”, she spoke, “Besides, that would be breaking my own rules” " she said, pointing towards the large poster plastered above the register. Jay followed her finger and shook his head as he read the sign.
‘Cops, Firefighters, Doctors and Nurses, drinks and treats are on the house, No exceptions!!’
“My dad was a ranger and taught me the value of first responders, so when I started my business, I made it a rule that those who protect us, normal people, from our stupidity would never have to pay. Plus, I make enough profit to cover it anyway.” As she pushed the box and cup tray towards Jay, she gestured to the jar on the counter next to the register, “But if your conscience won't let you leave without leaving a tip, then here, donate to this month's charity, the Chicago police fund” Jay practically swooned over her smile this time. pushing a few large bills into the jar, Jay left the cafe with a dopey smile and a mental promise never to get coffee anywhere else.
