kissing in secret, sneaking glances, small unnoticeable touches. it always came easy to him, but to you? it was never enough. you wanted it all, yearned for it all but never allowed to have it. he never let you get close enough.

lights flashed, loud music played, people grinding against each other, loud laughs, people kissing without a care. nothing beat college parties. you wanted to go home, everything reminded you of him, or what could have been of him.

romanticizing him, the picture perfect version of him you had created in your head. you wanted to be the people kissing infront of people without a care in the world but it couldn’t be like that.

not when he already had a girlfriend, someone he got to do all this with, who got all of him and more. god you were an awful person, coming in between the two of them. if anyone found out about what you two did it would ruin their “perfect” relationship but by god you wanted someone to find out.

all those things he said you wanted to be true, the sweet nothings he’d tell you at 4am in your dorm room after he used your body, used your emotional availability.

“why are ya staring at mr sunarin missy? ya know aoi wouldn’t be happy if she saw this” jumping a bit at atsumu suddenly whispering in your ear as he snaked his arm around your waist and you sighed. “yeah, I know ‘tsumu. he’s just so pretty” you leaned back into his chest as you still stared at suna who talked with his gorgeous trophy esque girlfriend. aoi nakamura.

what did she have that you didn’t? why did it have to be her and not you? why were you hung up over suna rintaro when you had another man who fawned over you unlike him. someone who wanted to show you off, someone who wanted to give it all to you.

someone who appreciated you, a patient man, a caring man. a sweet friend.

synopsis: the rare occasion where college!kuroo successfully flusters you…

a/n: this was originally going to be a small drabble but i found myself getting carried away again, however i really like how this turned out! please lmk if i should do the same thing with iwaizumi and oikawa :))

you’re really bummed out because you didn’t get a good grade on the exam he put so much effort into helping you study for. eventually, you facetime (or just video call for my non apple users) him to tell him the bad news.

he’s not disappointed in you. if anything, he feels terrible seeing you so down on yourself about your bad grade. so he drops everything he’s doing to hang out with you and try to lift your spirits. he tells you to stop by his dorm.

and you’re so eager to get there. you walk hastily (practically sprint) to his dorm room. when you get there, you softly knock on the door. from the other side, you can hear faint footsteps approaching the door, and it unlocking. kuroo swings the door open.

“i’m sorry, next time i’ll work even—” you start, but you find yourself lost for words once you look at kuroo. he answers the door in a pair of light gray joggers and a black t-shirt draped over his shoulder, though the first thing you notice is his toned figure.

“don’t apologize, you put in quite a lot of effort. you don’t need to ace the exam for me to be proud of you,” he praises. he’s so sincere and genuine yet so painfully unaware of how he can make you feel flustered so easily. “i know you’ll do great on the next one.”

“it means a lot,” you say in such a small voice. you mentally scoff at how bashful you are at this moment.

“let’s do something fun, yeah? maybe we can go watch a movie. the one you said you wanted to watch but couldn’t because we were studying,” kuroo’s lips curled into a smile.

“i don’t know i just-” you sigh, stepping into his dorm room and sit on his bed. “i’m sorry i let you down.”

“don’t be like that,” he says, walking over to you, sitting down next to you. “you exceeded my expectations every time.”

“so does this mean you have such low expectations for me? i’m so hurt tetsurou,” you hold back a burst of laughter as you notice his face becoming red and he tries to frantically explain that’s not what he meant. “can we just lay here? i’m not too thrilled to see the movie anymore. being in your company is enough,” you mumble, avoiding his gaze.

“we can.”

and that’s how it starts. you rest your head above his shoulder, and you find yourself subconsciously tracing your index finger against his bare chest. he takes notice of this as he looks down at you, but faintly smiles without saying anything. you begin to draw the shape of a heart on him.

“is that a heart you drew,” he looked at your finger on his chest, softly laughing joyfully. he’s words caused you to freeze. when you finally realized what you were doing, you quickly sat up.

“what are you talking about,” you replied nervously. “you know, maybe we should go watch that movie. let’s get up and go quickly.” you stood up fast, walking towards the other side of his room.

kuroo blinks at you confused, but he doesn’t ask you any questions. he just nods and quietly smirks and grabs the shirt he had folded on his nightstand.

you want to wipe the smirk off his face so badly but you can’t blame him. </3

you were the one who told him that you wanted to stay friends when he confessed to you that late summer night. you played if off as a joke, because to you that's what it was when it was dark and you couldn't see his face as you sat next to him in the passenger seat of his mom's beat up car. you knew that he was nervous about going off to college, being away from everything he knew. you knew that he was clinging on to you because you would be attending the same university for the next four years, and you would be the only familiar space in a scary new world. so that's why you told him with confidence that it would never happen, not even in a million years, and that you were best off staying platonic.

so why is it that when you see him flirting with people at parties or laughing with friends and making memories without you being part of them, so comfortable and happy, you feel sick to your stomach? why is it that when you're walking through campus and you see a head with that crazy rooster hair your heart skips a beat? and why is he always on your mind when you were the one laughing at the notion of being anything more than just friends?

as someone with little to no romantic experience, you chalk it up to the fact that it's probably because all your friends are falling in love as the summer breeze turns into a cool autumn. because you're starting to feel the loneliness sink in, and he's the only boy who's ever really given any real attention to you. now you realize that maybe you're the one clinging on to him for any sense of familiarity, because the academics and social scenes at college are a lot harder than you thought they would be, and you're a lot more introverted than you thought you were.

so you know he's just a friend and you know you're just lonely. but why do you keep wondering if he talks about you to his friends, or wonder if he would still take you back, even though you were never together in the first place?

college!au, dorm life

"yeah, so you know—oh," your friend's voice faltered and you followed where their eyes landed. it was suna rintaro and the new girl who just moved in two weeks ago.

suna had a pressed smile plastered on his lips as he did not expect people to still hang out in the common area on a tuesday midnight.

the structure of the dorm is laid out the way where you have to pass the common area before entering the rooms of each floors and sections. you knew where the new girl's room is, and it is not on your floor.

you mustered a sly smile when he made eye contact with you as he passed by. "i see," you said cheerfully, "great job rin."

suna's relationship with yours is not exactly clear. you can say that you are both friends, but you are not exactly close to each other, yet you still can tease one another.

you always thought that he was your type, and he was the only person you considered dating from the dorm. you never completely thought of your feelings for him until the moment you realized that he was with another person.

"i guess they are practically dating already," your friend said as they left the common area. "she's really nice though, so good for her."

you nodded genuinely in agreement. she was very sweet and adorable, and you can see why suna was into her.

"but," your friend sighed as they leaned closer to you. "i really think you deserve him more."

you leaned back and blinked at your friend. did they just read your mind? "everyone around me say that they are cute together, but will not last long. we all know how suna likes to know more people but not jump into a relationship right away."

your eyes lingered at where he was when he walked out of the common area. it reminded you of the time you both were out on a walk late at night and he confessed that he was not looking for a serious, long-term relationship.

"i might have my eyes on someone," you remembered him saying that night.

"are you going to do something about that?" the curiosity was killing you, but you did not have the courage to ask him who it was. at that time, you did not know why you hesitated to ask the question.

he looked at you with a small smile. "maybe. or if they don't seem to be interested in me, i might just try and get to know other people. but if i do like them, i will end up going back to them."

what you did not hear was, that he said "this person is right beside me. but i know they are not looking for anyone to date now."

college!satori hcs

| Satori is a morning person. The first person to wake up in the apartment, energy drink for breakfast as he stares out at the sunrise by the balcony. Just as the sun begins to rise and the sky paints itself like a scene from a Studio Ghibli film. An explosion of purple, blues and yellows.

| He loves the morning, the light. Because all his life as a child growing up he had been kept at the back, in the dark.

| Bilingual? No. Trilingual? Yes! Satori speaks French and English fluently. He likes to insult everyone in French, knowing that none of them know what he’s saying. (“Tetsu you’re a fugly baguette” “did you just call me a bread!?”)

| Satori takes food science. When he first started he needed Tetsurou help because he understood nothing about the chemistry element. Was completely flabbergasted at science being involved but found it really interesting to learn about food. Likes to use his knowledge from class to annoy everyone whilst they eat (“you know that’ll kill you” “suck my dick” “well that is a source of protein!”)

| Works at the bakery down the street from their apartment where the old lady who owns the place loves Satori and his friends. Allows him to take home food that doesn’t get sold. Satori loves baking with her, it makes him feel like a child again being able to bake with a mother figure. #absentmotherthings

| On campus some people are still afraid of him and his eccentric personality, it’s not as bad as middle school and high school where people would outright point and laugh or talk behind his back. In college he is more ignored which honestly doesn’t hurt as bad, it still stings a small part of him. However there are also a lot more eccentric personalities in college that makes him fit right in. (Besides, people have more worries than society's standards of what is normal, such as midterms and exams!)

| Theatre boy Satori at your service. Absolutely in love with that class, especially since Shoyo is also in the same class as him. Will act out the entire twilight plot with him as Edward and Shoyo as Bella. The professors are sick of him. (They held a Addams Family Performance, Satori was Mortica and Shoyo played Gomez. Was the performance of the year)

| You will absolutely find him singing ‘It’s Tough to Be A God’ from El Dorado in the cafeteria. Has a whole ensemble. Actually knows the exact lines from the entire movie and will randomly recite it. (Has been written up for disrupting class)

| Psychology boy Satori to the rescue. No but he tops the class, will take one look at you and figure you out. The therapist friend that everyone goes to, only is literally a therapist. He really enjoys it, loves the critical thinking aspect and the way you learn about the human mind. Although he has great potential to be a therapist, he looks his career advisors dead in the eyes and says “No thanks, I’m going to be an embalmer” he was sent to the counsellor the next day.

| Satori and Keiji will talk about astrology and peoples mbti signs. Satori, Kenma and Takanobu are the only ones allowed near Keiji’s crystals.

| You know how there's always that one person in class who's always eating. Satori is that person. Constantly. Professors don’t say anything because he always brings them a cup of their favourite coffee.

| Satori has and continues to teach classes whenever their professor is late. Has the whole set up, his own pointer-stick in his bag just in case. And whenever the professors come in he will single them out like they’re a late student. Everyone loves Professor Tendou.

| Country music enthusiast. His ringtone is Jolene. Will purposely have his phone on the ringer and let calls ring out just so he can sing along to the song. The professors have started confiscating his phone before class. Not like that will stop him. Has a backup flip phone in his sock.

| Satori and Rintaro once hotboxed Yuji's car. Everyone came out of the apartment and saw the car smoked up with flashing led lights and music booming from inside.

| Wikipedia is his best friend. He loves his classes (most of the time) but he’s also the biggest procrastinator. Not like he does it on purpose he just gets distracted easily by other things. #adhdthings

| And so whenever he's stuck on homework and essays he goes to Wikipedia and copies what he needs and then translates it into Hindu and then into English and back into Japanese before correcting misspellings. Plagiarise is his middle name.

| Gets invited to the biggest and best parties. Every weekend he’s out, and will drag everyone with him. Including Kenma by bribing him with his famous peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Most of those parties end with all of them extremely hungover with no recollection of the night before. Except Rintaro who has an unfairly high alcohol tolerance and records everything. everything.

| (At the end of the year Rin will do a slideshow of every embarrassing photo and video he has of everyone. A night of chaos)

| Outrageously annoying at home and likes to play the tsunami siren on speaker to wake everyone up. And I’m return for being annoying he offers them piping hot pancakes and bacon for breakfast.

| Is the designated cook along with Shoyo. They will alternate between who cooks breakfast and who cooks dinner. Nobody else is allowed in the kitchen after Tetsu and Rintaro burned the food and the fire department was called and everyone in the building had to evacuate.

| Has nicknames for all the professors and will say it to their face and they allow it. Is definitely a favourite student but also one of their most annoying. Still all secretly love him.

+ BONUS

Satori always had plans on moving away from Japan. He didn’t have the greatest memories in Miyagi, aside from being at Shiratorizawa. He wanted to start anew, somewhere nobody knew him and wouldn’t judge him. He was tempted, really tempted, to get the cheapest plane flight to anywhere in the world when Tetsurou called him asking if he wanted to be roommates with seven other people. Best decision he had ever made.

i’ve expanded a tiny bit on college!iwaizumi, so i think it’s about time i do the same with the others!

starting with college!kuroo first because him with a flirtatious reader… HELLO.

college!kuroo is such a dork!

he refers to you as “the really attractive person i tutor” to his friends, and when you overhear him saying it, he gets so nervous. he’s all red and like “they didn’t know your name so i couldn’t think of any other way to describe you” :)))

he’s generally a bit nervous around you naturally because he likes you, but he’s also comfortable with you. comfortable silence is a thing that works for you and him quite well, but it doesn’t happen often.

he loves talking to you! he’s definitely the type to ask you about your day everyday and could listen to you drone off about something you’re passionate about for hours.

he is not a flirt, he does try to flirt back with you occasionally but it definitely gets him a lil too flustered. being in charge of the flirting isn’t an issue for you at all.

he’s so cute :(( he loves hanging out with you doing non-study related things, so any occasion you get you’ll try to drag him out of his dorm.

semi eita lives across the hall from your room, and you can't help but to stare at his room hoping that he'd come out and say hi to you.

he has never been the kind of person who would start a conversation first, nor he would be seen in parties. he was the type to stay in his room and do his own thing. the way that he was hard to know made you so curious, and that made you form your interest in him.

fast forward, and now he is sitting next to you at a drinking party with everyone else from your major. you blinked and could not believe that he got out of his room and actually come and socialize in this big party.

"how much have you drank?" you heard a voice ask, making you turn around and face him. he tilted his head to the side and waited for your answer.

you felt your cheeks turning red and blame it on the alcohol. "just three glasses so far," you answered. "but i'm a hundred percent sober. you?"

he lifted his glass to clink with yours. "one glass. this is orange juice," he said with a grin. "someone needs to be responsible and sober." you both looked around the table and it seemed like you two were the only ones who were sober. "your face is red. you sure you're sober?"

"it's pretty warm here, but i feel great," you replied. you took another sip of your drink and felt a gush of confidence come out of you. "do yo—"

"eita, how is it going with your crush?" a person sitting across you asked, interrupting your question. you felt your ears perked, and curious to what he has to say.

he took a sip of his orange juice before shrugging. "nothing."

"oh come on, you should make a move on her! you should've invited her to this party," the person replied and you felt your heart sink. "at this rate, you're gonna lose her. just find someone else you can talk to."

"yeah, yeah," he murmured, "you're drunk. just drink up."

you took a sigh as you ordered another glass of cocktail. this is why you never can confidently answer honestly if you were interested in anyone.
