A/N: okay well, maybe illicit affairs isn’t/wouldn’t be my first fic BUT i cant help it HAHA this universe takes place from mick’s post on baby reveal 📸 also this isn’t proofread! apologies for the mistake :> enjoy reading!!

the 2022 season didn’t end the way mick wanted it to, and now, he was starting 2023 the way he least expected it would start. the 23-year-old driver felt like he was holding the world when he held his tiny son in his arms on january 1st. matteo schumacher was not planned, neither the two of you knew his existence until he welcomed himself hours after midnight. matteo was indeed a surprise, because you, his mom, was not aware that you were pregnant.

it started when you felt a pain on your stomach, literally two hours before the clock hit midnight. it felt like something was stabbing you and no position on the couch helped it stop. you tried your best to ignore it, but mick noticed how uncomfortable you were and pain was very visible on your face. corinna suggested that the two of you visit the hospital. at first you said no—because who the heck wants to welcome the new year inside the hospital? but mick was persuasive and managed to carry you to his car and drive to the nearest hospital. the two of you thought you’ll be able to head home right after the doctor has checked you and will receive any drugs to relieve the pain, but they said something that caused both of your worlds to stop.

“you’re actually in labor right now,” one of them said, “i know this sounds scary, but we’ve checked and you’re currently 5cm dilated.”

“what the hell are you saying?!” was the first thing you said, “mick?! what the hell?!”

“baby—”

the next thing you know, you were being transferred to a private room and had nurses check on you every now and then. mick called gina, explaining what happened and how you two are expecting a baby any time now. mick called your parents right after that call with gina, though it took him a while because the clock struck midnight. the response you two heard were all ‘what?!’ ‘how’d that happen?!’ which had no answers because even you two didn’t know how it happened.

cryptic pregnancy, that was what happened to you. only a few people in the world experience it, and you were part of that minority.

hours passed, mick never left your side. he kept on saying sorry, kissing your hand and forehead every time you felt contractions. by the time you were fully dilated and was ready to give birth, mick swore you’ve never held his hand that tight before. you were holding onto it as if you were ready to rip it off his arm but he didn’t complain, considering that you were giving birth unexpectedly. that was nothing compared to the pain he was feeling on his hand.

at 5:47 am, a small baby was placed on your chest. you looked at your boyfriend who was looking at the baby, tears threatened to fall. mick placed kisses on your head, muttering a small thank you in between the kisses. when you delivered the placenta, the doctors and nurses cleaning you up and your son, and another nurse helped and taught you how to breastfeed, you were left alone with your two boys.

“mick,” you called your boyfriend who sat on the other end of the room, giving you space as you breastfeed your baby. “it… it was a wild night but, happy new year.” you say, earning a chuckle from him “i know it’s not the ideal timing. we haven’t talked about this, clearly he’s not planned… but, how do you feel? with the baby.”

he stood up, walking towards your bed. “it’s not ideal, but i’m ready to do this with you… the whole parenting thing and baby” he said, “though i can’t deny the fact that i’m obviously scared, confused and nervous but there’s no one in the world i’d do this with but you.”

while your baby was happily suckling on your breast, you took the time to look up to mick. he didn’t hesitate to lean and connect your lips together, and that made your heart skip a beat.

“matteo,” you say, “is it okay if we name him matteo?”

“i’d love that, liebe” he smiled, carefully running his finger on matteo’s small head. “matteo.”

mick didn’t know it yet, but soon enough, matteo’s got his dad wrapped around his fingers.

Larissa Weems gets pregnant by Y/N: Drabble - Larissa’s midnight cravings

Okay, so this is not the official continuation of this AU. But, I wanted to write this as sort of a character study for Larissa. I’m still figuring out how to write for her so this was really just practice lol. Read the first part of this AU here! And the second part here! Let’s get into it!

You’re sleeping soundly and having the most pleasant of dreams. But suddenly, you can hear a soft voice calling your name and breaking through your slumber. You groan and pull the blanket up over your head, hoping to stop whoever is trying to wake you up… But that doesn’t work very well.

The very same person now begins shaking you roughly. Damn it. You eventually open your eyes, peaking your head out of the covers… Only to be met with a rather annoyed Larissa. You take one look at the glare she’s giving you and sit up immediately, nervously scratching your head. “Um, is everything-”

“No, Y/N, everything is not okay! I’ve been trying to wake you up for the last 5 minutes!” She huffs and crosses her arms.

You feel your heart rate jump at this. “Are you hurting or something?! Do I need to take you to the hospit-”

Larissa’s eyes widen at your panic. She didn’t mean to scare you. She quickly shakes her head, realizing that maybe she didn’t do the best job of conveying her needs. “No, no, darling. Nothing like that,” She clarifies, now looking down and gently caressing her growing tummy.

You quirk an eyebrow in confusion. “Oh, okay. What’s up?” You ask and sleepily lie your head on her shoulder.

Larissa sighs and runs her fingers through your hair. “It’s just that… I’m… Hungry,” She says, cheeks burning in embarrassment.

You perk up at this. “Oh, I get it! A craving? I just read about those in the baby book!” You say. “The baby wants something special, right?” You ask.

Larissa can’t help but giggle at how excited you look. “Yes, darling. Exactly,” She says and gives you a kiss, happy you don’t seem pissed for having been woken up.

“I can go to the kitchen and make something! What do they want?” You ask and place your hand on her stomach.

Larissa smiles timidly at you. “Well… Actually, I would love a hamburger…” She says, looking away.

“A hamburger? Hmm… I don’t know if we have all the stuff to make one,” You say, trying to remember what’s in the fridge.

Larissa sighs and clears her throat. “We don’t, darling…” She says, trying to hint that you will need to actually go out to get her a burger. She feels guilty about making you run to get her something in the middle of the night, but she will most definitely not deprive her child of what they want.

You finally realize what she means. “Oh! Yeah, yeah! No worries, I can go get one!” You tell her, pressing a kiss to her lips and jumping out of bed. “Alright, let’s see. Keys, wallet, phone,” You say, grabbing what you need. “Okay, I’ll be back, babe!” You say, bounding out of the room.

Larissa, however, is greatly alarmed. “Y/N! You’re in your underwear!” She calls frantically.

You stop running and look down at yourself. You laugh goofily from the hallway. “Haha, I’m naked!”

Larissa rolls her eyes and settles back down in the bed. “I worry about your parent sometimes, little one,” She murmurs to the baby.

Once the clothing issue is dealt with, you set out to go get Larissa’s food. You even have a genius idea. You return with quite a few burgers and a couple orders of fries. Knowing how hungry Larissa has been lately, one burger isn’t going to cut it.

Larissa weeps at your thoughtfulness… Before inhaling literally all of it.

You had also gotten yourself a milkshake… But Larissa drinks that too. You don’t mind. It’s really funny to see your refined and sophisticated girlfriend tearing into a bunch of greasy fast food.

After Larissa finishes eating, you snuggle into her side and she wraps a comforting arm around you.

You rub your hand along her belly. “I wonder what the baby’s gonna be like,” You say, trying to picture your future child.

Larissa looks down at you and smiles. “I bet they’ll be just as kind as you, Y/N,” She says, placing her hand on top of yours.

You look up at her. “Really?” You ask, suddenly a little bashful.

Larissa giggles. “Yes, darling. I’m sure of it.”

“I bet they’ll be beautiful like you, babe!” You tell her.

Larissa smirks. “That goes without saying,” She laughs. “Have you seen me?” She teases.

You crack up at this. “Yeah! And they’ll be smart too! We’ll have the best kid ever. I just know it!” You say.

Larissa hums contentedly and begins to stroke your cheek. “I think you’re right, Y/N,” She grins.

At Larissa’s gentle ministrations, you begin to yawn. She’s so warm and soft. You bury your face into the silky pajama top she’s wearing and start to drift off. “I love you. Good night, babe,” You whisper quietly.

“Good night, my darling. The baby and I both love you very much,” She says and kisses your head.

You smile and fall asleep, happy to have your entire family in your arms.

Note: Canonically, we know Larissa likes hamburgers so I wanted to throw that in XD I hope you enjoyed!

As you might have gathered from my frenzied posts yesterday, ya girl saw the Mario Movie for the second time on Thursday, and I have some additional thoughts! I already rambled on about the brothers' reunion AT LENGTH but let's actually talk about some other things (but also still a LITTLE BIT about that here too because I literally cannot be stopped).

Most importantly, I feel like I have had a big change of heart about the movie - in a good way! :)

So I had bought this Thursday ticket first before I made the really impulsive decision to go to a midnight showing on Tuesday, and I kept the ticket because I wanted to see what I would think a second time (and there were obviously some favorite moments that I really wanted to watch again). But I came out of the first showing so conflicted that I was like: "Am I even going to have that much fun at a second showing? Will I be a little bored sometimes?" (Plus, I was having the worst headache yesterday and just not in the best mood in general lolol)

And it was so, so MAGICAL

I think my first viewing experience was weird because 1) I was anxious and way overhyped 2) It was late at night and I was TIRED and 3) I found myself SO distracted throughout the movie because my brain was busy trying to redefine expectations as things went on, to the point that the whole end battle was extremely fuzzy to me because it was just SO DIFFERENT from what I'd been thinking it would be and my sleepy brain didn't know how to reconcile it. This time, I went in knowing exactly what the movie was going to be and what I could expect, and I just??? had the best time imaginable??? I was SO happy the whole way through?????? Literally enthralled and delighted and smiling to the point that my face hurt all over again???

Like, just to be clear, the problems I've already gone on about are still problems at the end of the day -- but truthfully, I care about them a lot less now. At the end of the day, this movie is beautiful, has heart, and keeps you interested, and just having gotten that out of a mario movie after all this time is really special to me. I do genuinely think that if you felt conflicted and disappointed after your first viewing, you should watch the movie again and see how you feel a second time around, because shedding all those expectations and going in without all that hanging over me just made for an absolutely wonderful experience that I'll remember for a long time!

Part of that too is the crowd I saw it with! At my midnight screening, there were obviously no kids and everyone was a little subdued. This time, there was a good number of kids, and man, they were having such a good time. The dad/daughter duo sitting beside me laughed SO many times and it was delightful (she was SO excited at the Mario Kart stuff).

And there was APPLAUSE at the end! That by itself is always a magical experience to me at the movies when people clap at the end because it's just such a pure expression of happiness (since there's no live performance and the clapping is to no one's benefit, lol). And then as I was walking out, there were these little boys excitedly talking about how the movie was a "5/5!!!" for them and....man, I don't know. The universe likes to give gentle reminders that sometimes things are just Not That Deep and it's okay to be a little less cynical and a little more generous. (But I will still complain a LITTLE below, haha.)

ANYWAY, THAT'S ENOUGH MUSING, HERE ARE SPECIFIC THOUGHTS:

The significance of the Nintendo logo sequence being retro Mario and Luigi together at the very beginning :) :) :)

Didn't even realize the first time that Mario doesn't just instinctively stick his arm out in front of Luigi protectively during the dog scene, he ALSO does it when Spike stands up from the table, even though Spike's only focused on Mario at that point!!!! Something I really wanted from the Brooklyn scenes was to see that protectiveness and care in Mario's body language for Luigi right from the start, and they do SUCH a good job at that, like more than I could have hoped for. It's a reflex for him! When there's even the slightest whiff of danger, you can see Mario's thought process go straight to "keep Luigi behind me, make sure he stays safe" and I loveeee

Luigi is such a mama's boy! ❤️❤️❤️ Bragging about her liking their commercial so genuinely! They also have a cute, subtle moment when he's trying to get some food at the dinner table and everyone's talking over him/not listening but his mom brings him a bowl and gives him a little, soft pat on the shoulder, it is adorable.

(Also Luigi getting swept up in the moment and dropping the "mic" but it's his phone and he breaks it continues to be just...such a good character moment. He is so wonderful throughout the beginning of the movie and I just want so much more of him in the sequel, please ;; )

JUST THE FAMILY STUFF IN GENERAL IS GOOD AND SURPRISINGLY SUBTLE AND REALISTIC????

Like, they could have gone REALLY broad with it and just made their parents horrible people if they wanted to do a "Mario has Dad Issues" plot but like, it's very clear that there's a LOT of love and care in that household! Along with a healthy dose of dysfunction, of course, but that's every family, haha. And honestly, their dad reminds me of my dad, who is a wonderful person BUT can also make really insensitive comments without realizing or just simply be really judgmental if one of his kids makes a choice he wouldn't personally make. It's still weird that they actually have a big family in this version of canon (if they live in the Mushroom Kingdom at the end of the movie, do they still go back and visit home all the time? Is it tough to be literally a world away from your parents??? I AM INTRIGUED BY THAT) but I can get behind it, haha.

In one of my other posts, I wrote that it looked like Mario and Luigi were the babies of the family, but there actually is a much younger kid at the dinner table, I realized - i think it's a little girl in a baseball cap who's maybe 7 or 8? Probably their cousin? She seemed very, VERY bored with everything going on. Also, for a split-second at the end, you can see her recording what's happening with her phone/taking a selfie XD I want to know more about this mystery kid and Mario and Luigi's relationship with them, haha.

Also, to go back a little, that construction site parkour scene had a lot more to it than I remembered! Mario doesn't just open the gates for Luigi - he also knocks down a ladder for him, throws down a piece of material for him to be able to run over a gap, and I think some other things too. Back to my original point about how no matter what's going on or how caught up he is, what his brother needs is always such a critical part of his thought process ❤️

I LOVED THE MARIO AND PEACH STUFF SO MUCH MORE THIS TIME???? There still isn't enough by far, but I was just so much fonder of their little moments. The "you're just trying to make me feel better" "is it working?" "a little, yeah" exchange was CUTE. Also, I kind of adore that Mario improves but doesn't ACTUALLY finish the training course (which feels realistic in such a short timeframe) but Peach sees that he's really trying and that's all she needed to know, that he was serious and had the determination to give it his all. :)

ALSO I love when Mario looks very nervous right before his fight with DK but he and Peach lock eyes and she gives him a determined smile and nod and that helps him.

(ALSO x 2, when Bowser breaks out of the ice at the wedding, Mario and Peach are holding hands very sweetly!!! I want to know what they were saying to each other at that point! She was probably SO relieved to see that he was alive and all right, ahhhh)

PEACH'S WEDDING DRESS IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, MAYBE A CONTROVERSIAL OPINION BUT THE ODYSSEY DRESS COULD NEVER!!!

I have ALWAYS loved the idea of Peach's eventual wedding dress having pink elements throughout (even in the veil!!) because it's her signature and this dress DID and I was so endlessly delighted, can't WAIT to see all the details more in super high quality screenshots

ALSO THE WEDDING SCENE IS GENERAL IS SO GOOD??? I TRULY THINK THE WAY THEY STRUCTURED THIS SCENE AND PEACH'S CAPTURE WAS INCREDIBLY SMART???

I knew it was basically a foregone conclusion that Peach would be taken captive at some point because that is SO iconic, but I truly thought they would play it out more traditionally where Mario comes to her rescue. And the fact that they don't even go NEAR that idea, Mario doesn't even KNOW anything about what's going on her and she's on her own with Toad, and she just!!! handles the situation!!! she takes Bowser out (temporarily) and does everything she can to save the prisoners and I just loved that they were able to have it both ways while still letting her be TRULY badass instead of just paying lip service to the idea without ever following through

THE FINAL BATTLE IN BROOKLYN...HIT SO MUCH HARDER FOR ME THIS TIME...AND NOW I LOVE IT

I was just so bewildered the first time I saw the movie by the twist but this time, i was 100% IN THE MOMENT and let me tell you, Mario being all bruised and scared and then seeing himself and Luigi on the cracked television...my goodness, I genuinely teared up. I'm tearing up now thinking about it!!

IN GENERAL: THE WAY THEY BALANCE BOWSER'S HUMOR WITH SOME EXTREMELY MENACING, SCARY STUFF IS SO GOOD

I love that you're laughing at him and then suddenly, he just does something CRUEL and TERRIFYING and ESSENTIALLY PSYCHOPATHIC (even the little things like intentionally crushing Kamek's hands in the piano and making him keep them there!!) and you're scared of all him all over again

I know, I know, I already spoke about Mario and Luigi's reunion AT LENGTH, but I got one more thing -> it is genuinely SUCH a relief that Illumination did not go for the cheap "wow how embarrassing when men show emotion!" joke. in fact, not only did they avoid any joke like that, they went as far in the other direction as I think you could possibly go????? Like, seriously, I wanted FEELINGS here and the fact that it even blew ME away how tender and loving their whole exchange is really says something!!! I WILL LITERALLY TALK ABOUT THE FACE HOLDING AND THE FOREHEAD TOUCHING FOREVER, THEY ARE THE SWEETEST BROTHERS OF ALL TIIIME

Finally, I am STUPID because I genuinely walked away from the movie the first time with the impression that the worlds were permanently merged together at the end??? But after reading other people's summations of the ending, that's clearly not the case and Mario and Luigi just live in the Mushroom Kingdom now, whoops, haha. (I would be interested to know how far in the future that scene is!! I assume it would take some time to make that decision and that they weren't like "yeah, let's just immediately leave behind everything we've ever known and our whole family for a place we've spent a couple of days in" lol)

And also a quick list of some things that I'm still annoyed about because, well, it can't ALL be good:

The 80's music didn't bother me originally BUT it's starting to come to light now that the soundtrack is out that there are full, finished, AMAZING tracks that just aren't in the movie and it's pretty clear they sync up really well with those scenes???? SO IT DEFINITELY SEEMS LIKE THE ORIGINAL INTENTION WAS TO NOT HAVE ANY OUTSIDE MUSIC BUT SOMEONE HIGHER UP DID SOME MEDDLING AND GOT THEM ADDED AND THAT IS INFURIATING. And you can totally tell!!! WE NEED A VERSION OF THE MOVIE WITH ALL THE ORIGINAL TRACKS PUT BACK IN FOR SURE

It continues to feel like there are whole scenes/parts of scenes just missing from the movie! FOR INSTANCE: it seems like a MAJOR plothole that Toad was captured alongside Peach but then he's just...walking around freely? Able to get her a bouquet with the ice flower??? I feel like something was missed there. I really do wonder if there's like 10-20 minutes of footage/potential footage that was mercilessly cut for time. Will we ever see some of it (maybe on the blu-ray)? Will it be lost to time/Nintendo's vault forever? SOMEONE LEAK THE FORBIDDEN SCENES :(

Speaking of, RIP "I'm not afraid! I'll do anything for my brother!" I WILL ALWAYS MOURN YOU AND LOVE YOU AND WONDER WHEN YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN SAID IN THE MOVIE

Guys. The slow motion. WE GET IT. It's funny the first couple of times, but by the fifth time, it's SO OLD.

Also, I continue to desperately wish that the Luigi rescue at the end felt more earned. It's SO good but it needs one more beat! One more realization! One more character moment! SOMETHING! :( :( :( :(

I had ANOTHER idea about how they could have sold this more and even tied it back to an earlier moment in the movie. When the scene cuts to Luigi in the dumpster watching Mario fight, frame what he's seeing so that it reminds him of being babies on the playground again, but now Mario's where Luigi was!!! And Bowser's the bully!!! And his brother needs him just as much as Luigi needed Mario back then!!!! You wouldn't even need any dialogue - just let the shot LINGER on Luigi and give us a tiny bit of that flashback intercut one more time alongside his changing expressions! It would be SO simple but I think it'd be effective AND give that earlier flashback more reason to be there in the first place (as adorable as it is).

HATED JOHN - regret version

i'm not sure if i like this version of hated john better than the original hmmm.... his voice is certainly more dynamic but it doesnt feel like he's used to singing like that haha. a lot of voice effects being used too. i guess it's not better or worse it's just different p: instrumental sounded identical to the original to me but i'll have to relisten, i wasnt paying much attention to it

I always respond to comments! Usually whenever I update with a new chapter. Comments make me so so happy (seriously I cannot even begin to describe it) so I really want to show my appreciation to readers, even though I'm usually quite bad at thinking of ways to reply.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Hm most of my fics are unfinished, but if all goes to plan, midnight or All This and Heaven Too will probably have the most bittersweet endings.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Twin Flames! Maybe lean for me too if I ever finish that.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not on AO3 so far. I used to get some hate on ff dot net, but I think commenting culture in general is a bit harsher over there so.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Only unpublished for myself so far haha. But (perhaps controversial) if I ever post any it's going to be f/f omegaverse because it's underrated and there's a tragic lack of it everywhere.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written?

Definitely! I'm obsessed with fusion crossovers and there's lots of half-finished ones in my docs and notes app. My only published one so far (and I suppose the craziest) is my Criminal Minds x Twilight crossover midnight though.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge! I hope not

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I've had someone ask to translate Sin to Win into Chinese, which was really cool!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I co-wrote like three chapters of a OUAT fic with my ex-best friend years ago, but I think we got bored and abandoned it, so no clue if it's out there somewhere still.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Easily JJ/Emily, literally do not get me started on how tragic they are, idk what it is but I've never been so obsessed with a ship before.

15. What's a fic you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sorry to anyone who likes it because it was my most popular fic until very recently, but probably Sin to Win. I really hate what I did with the plot from Chapter 2 onwards and I'm confused about what past-me thought a cognitive interview was, because that's almost definitely not how they work. The plot's just a mess that I'm not sure how to unravel lol. I am still totally in love with the premise though, so maybe in the future I'll start over and delete the last few chapters.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I would definitely say writing descriptions (easily one of my favourite parts of writing in general), I love getting to capture a vibe.

Also conciseness (thanks to every English teacher I've ever had, and all the hundred word short stories I was forced to enter as a teen lol) although it can definitely be a double-edged sword when trying to reach higher wordcounts.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

OMG definitely dialogue. Idk if people reading my fics can tell but I avoid it as much as possible, and that's because between my autism and social anxiety, I just genuinely do not know/understand what people are supposed to say in a conversation + how (although I definitely think I've at least improved in structuring dialogue realistically), especially in character.

Also, just like, plots, lol.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Personally, I tend to prefer for the writer to just be like, "she said in French." I'm bilingual, English is my second language, and I feel like often when people write poly-lingual characters in particular they're kind of clumsy about the character using another language. I've definitely seen people do it very well though!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Oh boy, I'm actually not sure if I remember, I must have been like twelve or thirteen at the time. I'm going to tentatively guess Grey's Anatomy.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

It's between Twin Flames (my baby, the first fic I've ever finished) and All This and Heaven Too (I loved writing young JJ and Emily so much).

1. Describe a mental place you retreat to in your head, either something you've made up or a place you go back to.

Whenever I'm stressed, or I'm in desperate need of proper vibes (when I'm writing a fic, for instance) is actually Pandora, lol. Like, yes, the Avatar Pandora haha

I find this place so soothing and inspiring, not to mention utterly beautiful, that I find myself coming back there again and again.

2. Talk about what you're reading now, if anything.

I'm currently reading a detective story by Jonas Mostrom "The Midnight Girls," but there's not much to tell since I've just started yesterday haha

5. Favourite sounds?

Heavy rain and thunderstorms, it's perfect for relaxing, writing, falling asleep!!

8. A period of history you know a lot about?

Victorian England and 20th century USA, i find these periods absolutely fascinating! I wrote my B.A. thesis about Victorian England, and now I'm writing my master's with a heavy focus on the 20th c US 🥹

18. Preferred aesthetic?

Glittercore, lmao, not sure if that's even a thing but let's just pretend it is

38. Favourite type of pizza?

Generally it's vegetarian, but I always end up ordering a custom pizza cause the veggie options include stuff I hate such as rocket, olives or aubergine, and my go-to is cheese, mushrooms, corn, red pepper, cherry tomatoes, and kale + sometimes also an egg 💙

39. Talk about something you love?

I love baking! Over the years I improved a lot, and now I am the chief baker in my family haha I had some serious fuck ups on my way to the top (lol) such as adding too little gelatine (my cake literally spilled on the table) or adding eggs to a hot cocoa milk (yes, it ended up being basically scrambled eggs), but now I hardly ever make mistakes, and even when I do, I know how to fix it 😊

It’s December 31, 2021. I’m sitting in the parking lot of the only business that will be open until midnight in a tiny ghost town outside of Big Bend National park. I saw a balloon trellis with “2022” decorating it earlier so I figured I might find some people to Hollar in the new year with here.

My service is full bars, 3G – much better than I thought it would be! So no data transfer. I have tried video chatting, posting, and sending people pictures but alas, the service only works for text and phone calls. I figured I would sit here and think about my year, where has it gone? We say that every year, as if we blink and memories of the past revolution around the sun flash before our eyes. I feel compelled to share how my year has gone. Call it loneliness? The lack of human beings I have seen that I care about, that care about me? That’s not to discredit the 100s of strangers I’ve had lovely (and not so lovely lol) interactions with in the past month and a half.

I started my year in Massachusetts, my home town, in my childhood yard with my oldest friend and my family, burning Christmas trees as is tradition on New Year’s Eve – but at a much smaller scale due to a certain pandemic. I got some ski runs in at the slopes of Loon mountain the next day, in another state that I absolutely adore (♥️New Hampshire♥️)

I drove back to my actual home of 5 years, Lima Ohio, to go back to work and begin construction of the $5,000 PC my employer trusted me to build (how did I get here lol, if you asked me what I thought my future career would be before college, I would have said “as far away from the IT field as possible”)

I took and passed a test to become a certified drone pilot by the FAA. Since passing, I have flown my drone over various scenery and cities in 14 states and counting.

I spun fire for the first time in a rock garden that is like nothing you’ve ever seen before with a dear friend. What a wonderful, powerful experience! This garden is in the back yard of a sweet, eccentric man in the hometown of Neil Armstrong, Wapakoneta. My Ohio people know 😏 I went on to spend every Thursday evening this summer jamming out vocally and on my mandolin with a group of 10-20 older musicians who I might categorize as the original hippies? Lol

I danced with great friends in the back room of a vape shop that I met from a video gig I had at the beginning of the pandemic. I picked up the bass guitar, an instrument that literally makes me feel like the most badass lady on the planet even though I am at a below beginner level haha.

I took pictures with my first film camera, and had a friend come over and teach me how to develop it myself in my dark bathroom. Definitely gave me an admiration for the blind! The film strip hung to dry on my shower curtain rod until I was able to invert the negative and see my extreme inexperience with the original medium of photography LOL.

I flew to Florida in March with two people, I now consider family after years of friendship in Ohio. We had a great time sitting by the pool and laying on the beach until we got back to the car to see the $120 ticket because we were so excited to run to the beach that we forgot to pay for parking! That was fun. NOT

Later in the year, I went on to participate in the marriage of these too amazing people shortly after buying their first home in the poppin’ town of Columbus, Ohio. Love you guys big time.

I got inked for the first time since I was 18! One cute and impulsive tattoo of a little bee, and one tattoo I’ve been talking about getting since I was 17 with my non blood sister ♥️. I’m blessed by the people in my life! And guess who the artist was? Another stunning soul I have gotten to know in the past two years, who has just finished building her schoolie to live and travel in!

That same artist friend of mine went on to give me the honor of tattooing her! A little brasil philodendron now resides on her shin by my hand. Love you Caroline ♥️

This year I bought new rollerblades and have traveled the country putting 100s of miles on them in various cities: San Francisco, Boston, Charlotte, Savannah, Tampa, New Orleans etc etc.

I took an exhilarating pre-travel flight to San Francisco with my covid raincheck ticket and visited with my aunt and uncle for nearly 2 weeks. Exploring the city, hiking the Bay Area elevation, singing in karaoke bars in Japantown, painting in an iconic art studio, flying the drone over their neighborhood. The memories are warm in my heart.

This year I parted ways with my partner of 5 years.

This year I packed up my entire life and the home I had spent 4 years in. (That’s a long time for a 23 year old!) I sold many earthly possessions, I packed my cats, I packed my piano, I packed my memories.

I moved my things to my parents house. &&& let me just take a moment to thank them for how wonderful and understanding they’ve been.

When I told them, hey, I know this sounds crazy, but I NEED to blow my savings traveling the country living in my car, they were not totally on board lol. But they ultimately understood that this was what I needed before the next job, and there’s no words that I could say to thank them enough for supporting me and for watching my cats and my greenhouse volume of plants while I go through my existential crisis that has lead me over 5,000 miles around the American continent.

I have been on the road for nearly a month and a half. I have hiked mountains, danced with strangers, kayaked with manatees, flown in a 2-person plane that is triple my age, explored museums and walked through historical locations. I have been sun kissed and sunburnt. I have spent all night changing the alternator in my car in the Walmart parking lot of a small Louisiana town. I have made coffee under many skies and on many beaches. I have superglued homemade window covers to the glass of my car because I’m tired of them falling on me in my sleep. I have cooked Mac and cheese in the top level of a parking garage at 2am cause what else am I gonna do when I’m hungry on bourbon street?

And now here I am, in a rural (understatement) town about a rocks throw from the Mexico border. I’m about halfway through my trip and if I was looking for answers to what I should do next or what my purpose is, I don’t think I’m gonna find that on the road.

What I have found is one hell of a life changing experience.

Reader, if you’re still there, here are a few excerpts from my travel journal entries:

“Slept in my first Walmart parking lot last night among a fleet of RVs, felt safer that way. Minutes from Folly Beach, SC, but I will drive inland soon to see an old friend. I’ll come back here tonight”

“Skated 4 miles on the Tampa riverwalk today and got a nice shower.”

“I am drawing some mutant palms among the yellow umbrellas & blue chairs on Treasure island. The Cabana boy told me yesterday that if I came back today, I could have a free cabana for the day.

& so I sit on the blue chairs under the yellow cabana, wondering how I found myself in such a beautiful moment.

Another day at the beach on Treasure island.”

“My skin is burnt from Florida’s hot rays. I thought it was kissed but my northern complexion was unprepared for the beating sun.

My eyes are crusted from dried tears.

A vagabond life I live.”

“Parked on the wharf, 2:00am, my eyes open to the sound of cooing owls. I decide to head out

To the beach I go, away from the little key that has a population of 700.

Tires screech to a stop on the bridge over the water leaving the town. The sky is stunning.

I have lost track of the amount of shooting stars my eyes have absorbed. It’s 3:20 am.”

“Overcast commanded the sky when I arrived in Panama City this morning. It seemed to swallow the high that was brought on by the clear night sky. I had a frustrating time with my stove as I lugged it through the sand. Complete with coffee supplies and complications, but I was determined to make my morning cup of Joe by the water.”

“Shards from massive sand dollars cover the white sand that is clustered into drifts like that of snow. It’s funny how I’m down where the weather is temperate, yet my mind goes to the cruel and icy landscape that is New England.”

“Skated around and fell with my coffee. I smell like coffee”

“I stayed in a parking garage and it was terrible. People were honking at every corner of the windy, multilevel structure. The sounds bounced off the concrete walls all night.”

“Hah my Friday night did not go as planned. I ended up staying up all night replacing the alternator in my car in a town I drove to to DoorDash. I woke up in that town and now I hit the road. Houston here I come.”

“Fire twirls before my eyes on the rooftop of a warehouse littered by art and junk at every level. Who knew this could be found on Houston’s Main Street.”

“Today I left the ground.

Today I soared the skies.

Did you get enough rest last night? I really didn't. I slept at 5 AM thinking that would surely let me sleep in the entire morning, but my body still automatically woke me up at 9 and didn't let sleep again by then.

What was the last thing that kept you awake? That would be right now – I finished off the entire first season of D.P. which I ended at around half past midnight, and now I'm back in my room downing the rest of my coffee with no intention to sleep yet, even with just four hours of rest haha.

If you have pets, do they sleep in your bedroom at night? No, they have their own corner in the living room.

Can you sleep with background noise or does it keep you up? It helps me fall asleep as the light noise gives me a sense of security, so I kind of need it.

Do you ever take naps? Do you take long naps or little power naps? Occasionally. I can never do power naps as they always end up feeling super insufficient for me, and I prefer having 3-4 hour naps.

What helps when you have trouble sleeping? I'd need to go through my phone and watch a lot of videos since that quickly gets the job done.

Who was the last person to cook you a meal? What did they make? My mom made pasta for sharing a few days ago.

Tell me about an interesting article you’ve read recently. Andi shared a pretty unique piece with me this morning which was basically a personal essay of why McDonald's' Coke seems to taste better than Coke literally anywhere else. It was silly yet insightful, mundane yet so weirdly intriguing and fascinating. For somebody who doesn't even like soda, I found myself reading until the very end. I liked it a lot and subscribed to that author right away lol.

Do you have a favorite Marvel character? I'm not into anything superhero.

Favorite DC character? Yeah, no.

Do you read comic books? I tried getting into them but I got tired of faking it LOL so I just accepted that comic books and superheroes and I will never mix.

Has a horror film ever actually scared you? Which one(s)? I found Paranormal Activity to be a refreshing horror concept for its time and it successfully gave me the creeps, especially with the multiple endings. The sequels unsurprisingly didn't hold up the same magic but I'm very much willing to defend the first movie to my grave haha. OH Midsommar was also super freaky. I nearly refused to drive home that night because I was afraid of seeing the trees in the neighborhood suddenly pulsating.

What was the last horror movie you saw? The Menu counts as horror-ish, no?

What was the first horror movie you remember seeing? What did you think of it? The Exorcist. I was 12 and immediately downloaded a torrent when a quick "what's the scariest movie ever" Google search led me to that movie. In hindsight, though, because I already had expectations of how scary it is, I think that sort of pre-conditioned me to be more sensitive to the jump scares and all the freaky shit that happened in the movie – so 13 years ago, I was definitely spooked.

Realistically though, I feel if I watched it again now at 25 I'd probably find some of the effects more comedic than scary, BUT one thing I'll never get over are *those* demonic images that pop up like three times across the movie. Regardless of how old I get I feel like I'll always look away from those lol.

Name a few historical figures you find interesting. Why? I recently learned about Herbert K. Pililaau, the US soldier who fought off Korean soldiers on his own while the rest of his crew? platoon? (idk terms) had been assigned somewhere else at the time. Fucking dude kept firing until he was out of ammunition; then switched to grenades; then when he ran out of those too, ended up with knife in one hand, fist in the other to fight the best and longest he could before he was finished off; when he was found, he was surrounded by more or less 40 soldiers he managed to kill. Obviously I don't support war and this is a shitty story all around, but this scenario is straight out of a movie.

What is your favorite historical film and why? Gone with the Wind. I have yet to understand the complexities and deeper contexts behind the Civil War and all other questions related toit; and when I say it's my favorite it's largely because of the production value and how unprecedented such a movie was to have come out at the time it did.

Do you usually enjoy historical films? Yes, as long as they don't extremely deviate from or betray things that actually happened, especially if we're covering atrocities or human right violations.

Name a sequel film (any franchise) you like better than the first film. Why is that? Shrek 2. It's the Shrek movie I grew up with so I'll always be biased towards it.

Which do you find most interesting: Greek, Roman, or Norse mythology? Why? Eugh, I really dislike mythology haha.

Which tale from whichever mythology you listed above do you find most interesting? I read Percy Jackson and that's the most I'll read as far as mythology.

Do you collect anything? What was the last item you added to that collection? Just BTS merch. Last things that arrived were my copies of D-Day and Face, but I'm expecting my orders of Jack in the Box and Layover to arrive October latest.

Out of curiosity, how would you rank the Bates Motel seasons? :) Top five favourite episodes?

Hi!!! 💖💖💖 Man, I love talking about Bates Motel but it's also been years since I watched it so I might get things wrong / forget things but I glanced over the seasons' overviews on Wiki to remind myself lol

Seasons 4 & 5 are just about tied as my favorites because I REALLY loved how the show ended, I think its finale & the penultimate episode were its strongest & most memorable moments & a lot of that was that the buildup made everything as batshit & dark & off the wall as possible & then the show somehow actually delivered on a mind-shattering finale. So, the last 2 seasons did a great job of building up to a strong ending.

I think 3 & 1 are tied & 2 is the weakest. Season 1 sets the scene & shows you right off the bat how dark this show is gonna be. And season 3 is where we start to see the beginnings of the end with Norman's insanity & Norma starting to acknowledge it. Season 2 is the weakest because if I remember right they started a lot of plots that felt like they went nowhere & it just felt like the Bradley plot could've been done better, IDK.

Top favorite episodes:

"Forever" because that scene with the eerie version of 'Mr. Sandman' playing & Norman walking around closing the vents lives rent-free in my head

"The Cord" because it's one of the best TV finales of all time in my opinion, dramatic, memorable & intense. The scene where Dylan is forced to shoot his own brother...This poor man has been through so much :(

"Check out" because Max Theriot is an incredible actor & Dylan finding out that his parents are brother & sister rocked me to my core

"Midnight" because it's Norman's first murder & the start of the story getting REAL

I might change my ranking were I to do a re-watch, this is kinda a combination of memory & Wikipedia because it has been a long time haha

"The Cord" might actually deserve #1 though because I'm 100% positive it belongs in the top 5 as a whole episode & the others are more based on specific scenes I found really memorable xD Like...Good lord, that's truly what you call a FINALE

Seriously or at least release the dam scripts I love reading scripts, I would not mind shows being canceled if they just released the script cuz 4/5 times the script is already written they just don’t follow through.

I feel that n I used to have the issue but now I just repeat everything they say in my head like if I’m reading it lol. I found that that really helps + being in the complete dark so nothing catches my attention.

Yeah!! Or even just like, give us a summary of what would have happened/what plans for future seasons were. The writer of The Midnight Club did that when the show got cancelled, and I was SO grateful to him for having done that, instead of leaving everyone with all the questions unanswered.

i... can't think of a single possible question lol. let's just go with some behind the scenes fun facts? my favorite things about them? idk here's a mix of both and i'm sorry they ended up so long winded haha

Just For Now – this one is easily the most on the fly, no plans fic i've ever written. it was written pretty quickly in 2020, when i had just graduated college but was still unemployed because of things with the pandemic, so i had a lot of time to basically write a chapter a day. i posted as i went and almost never had a plan for where the next chapter was coming from before the current one was finished. there was only one later chapter i knew would exist from the beginning, which was them getting together at the sam and nat's wedding. everything else, even character background details, came at the exact moment they were written with pretty much zero forethought. all in all i'm pretty proud of how well it turned out without any real planning, but also i would never do that again lol

dust off your highest hopes – my absolute favorite moment in this one is the scene with them discussing the hyacinth tattoo steve almost got and the one tony has. i had the dialogue written fairly early on for tony asking steve to tell him something about himself that tony doesn't know yet, and i knew i wanted steve to tell him about a tattoo he almost got, but didn't. the only problem i had was that i had no clue at all what it would be, or why he wouldn't do it in the end.

sometimes i view scenes in terms of vibes and colors rather than plot, if that makes sense? so, this scene needed to feel like it was midnight blue with soft, hazy stars. that lead me to thinking that steve's almost tattoo should come from mythology, so i ended up googling something like 'gay love stories in greek mythology' just to see if one would fit. the very first one i read was the story of Apollo and Hyacinthus, and it just felt so right for steve to be sort of enthralled by that story, but also have a longing to experience something like it for himself first before getting a tattoo to represent it. personally, i've always been so intrigued by flower language, so i googled what hyacinths represent and that also felt very right for tony, given all the backstory i'd already established for him.

just generally, i love moments in writing where it feels like i've somehow stumbled upon the exact right thing to fit in the moment. there was no plan initially for tony to have any tattoos, let alone one that fit with steve's almost tattoo, but i love that it worked out that way. this particular moment felt almost fated to exist.

you can call me babe for the weekend – speaking of viewing scenes in terms of colors, this entire fic is maroon to me. i can't explain why, but that's what my mind sees.

now an actual fun fact! i think i've said this somewhere before, but i started writing this fic the same night evermore was released and started picturing it after my very first listen to tis the damn season. everything about that song screamed steve and tony to me. the longing, the idea of leaving someone you love to pursue a dream that you also love, the self-sacrificial nature of it. that was all just so tony. he would want to leave his small town, he wouldn't ask steve to come with him when he knew steve wouldn't be happy there, but he'd also never be able to move on and let him go in his own heart.

i've always just generally loved the concept of two people being so meant for each other that there's literally no one else they could fit quite right with. they always find their way back to each other, because they have to. tis the damn season came out and was basically like here's the blueprint, go write it. so i did

→ but yeah the team really likes you because you know how to control bokuto hsjsjhs

→ when bokuto adds you to the vbc groupchat, that’s when you become good friends with the team
