Finally joined twitter and started posting my art and it goes fully to shit. So here I am in a renewed tumblr era! This is an OC of mine: Lianna. She’s trapped behind the veil in Faerie and has until the full moon to get home or she’ll be stuck forever. Thank Gaia she meets Fyrgus, a grumpy fire wielding fox fae! He agreed to guide her home in exchange for her moonstone ring…although he insists it belongs to him, says it holds his power. Lianna isn’t sure she trusts him, but what choice does she have? Also he’s insanely hot…but that doesn’t have anything to do with it, of course.

Taking a crack at writing while I also work on my digital art. I used to write all the time and then kind of stopped. It’s been such a wonderful experience diving into this world and telling Lianna and Fyrgus’ story. Learning a new craft, playing with tropes, writing sex scenes! It’s been lots of fun.

The stereotype of "the helpless woman"

I don't know why TikTok is trying to punish me but I'm constantly seeing authors trying to sell their "romance" books showing pieces of dialogue between the two main characters and it's always painfully cringe.

It's without exception the same vulnerable, insecure type of woman who either needs to be saved by the "bad boy", gets involved in some weird mafia sh*t similar to 365 days (god those movies are awful) or she's getting pregnant by the male love interest without intending to (and he always wants to get her pregnant for some reason?) Most of the time all three of these events happen.

This stuff grosses me out, I've seen hundreds of these books and there's nothing interesting about them. I've been reading since i was a little kid and I've been writing too and usually that's just the kind of stuff you'll find on wattpad for free.

For clarification, write what you want, read what you wish, this is just my personal opinion.

What I've been thinking about are the problematics that come up by romanticising the stereotype of "the helpless woman" who is always reliant on someone else. Usually the relationship between the main characters in question is also containing abusive or toxic patterns.

Pregnancy also gets glorified a lot. I honestly don't get what's making it this romantic, and frankly it's weird to read how the male protagonist is so obsessed with getting her pregnant after just meeting her a few weeks ago. Oh yeah i forgot to mention the time span of the events that happen are usually rather short. Sure, a baby ideally is the product of the love between two people but in that context…

Dear authors, i know it's hard to find unique plot points, i really get it.

After all, books aren't meant to portray every shred of reality but to be an escape of our daily lives, I'm aware of that.
