world champion ~ max verstappen
Tumblr media
Summary: You've been by Max's side since his early days in the business, and now he finally achieves his dream with you by his side.
Words: 1.0k+
Other works: my masterlist
♡♡♡♡♡
Ever since he started in Formula 1, the biggest dream Max had was becoming a World Champion. Signing with Red Bull was the first step towards making his dream come true.
Having you by his side was the second thing he needed.
His family couldn't come at every single race that he had, having their own lives and work prevented them from being able to fly out to the numerous countries that he found himself in every week.
But you had a very flexible job, you had your own little business and could essentially work from your laptop from anywhere you were, which was why you had never missed a race since Max started in F1.
He always joked with Christian in calling you his lucky charm.
The season had been going well for him, he'd won numerous races and was now tied with Charles Leclerc in the Championship standings. But you knew he could do it, you could feel the win coming.
"I'm going crazy" he told you the night before the race that would essentially decide who the champion is.
The famous Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
"Stop stressing, you're going to give yourself wrinkles if you stress so much" you called out from the hotel bathroom where you were doing your skincare routine before bed.
"How can I not be stressed? My career is essentially on the line. Everything relies on what happens tomorrow, I can't let everyone down and not win" he said, his voice quiet and somber.
You finished doing your skincare routine and exited the bathroom, joining him on the king sized bed and wrapping your arms around him.
He buried his face in your chest and held onto you tightly, your arms being the only comfort for his nerves before every single race.
"Nobody is going to hate you or judge you if you don't win. Everybody is going to be proud of you for being able to be at the top for the entire season. I'm proud of you, Max, and I'll be proud of you regardless if you finish in first or last place. Don't beat yourself up if things don't go your way tomorrow, there is always next year and we're all going to be there for you, no matter what" you explained, kissing the top of his head as a confirmation that you were there and will always be by his side, no matter the results.
"You really mean that?" his voice was timid, but you could feel his muscles starting to relax under your touch.
"Of course I do. You don't have to put this kind of pressure on yourself. You're not doing this for the fans or for your family or for me, you're only doing this for yourself. Just go out there and drive your best and let the results come to you if it's meant to be"
He nodded and squeezed you tighter.
"I love you, so damn much" he mumbled, kissing your clothes chest and settling back down against you.
"I love you too, baby" you whispered and started running your hand up and down his back, knowing it was one of his favorite things.
As minutes went by, his breath started to slow down, indicating that he had fallen asleep. You smiled and placed a final kiss on his forehead before getting comfortable to go to sleep yourself, excited for what tomorrow would bring.
♡♡♡♡♡
The atmosphere in the Red Bull garage was exhilarating. For Christian and all the engineers, Max was already the World Champion.
Nothing could ruin their mood that morning, and the same could be said about you.
"How are you feeling?" you asked your boyfriend as he started getting ready to go in the car.
"Still nervous, but not as much as before. What happens, happens. I'll give it my best and we'll see" he said and gave you a sincere smile, reassuring you that he was okay.
"Good luck, baby. I love you, please be safe" you said and leaned up to kiss his lips before he'd have to put on his balaclava and helmet.
"I will. I love you too"
He departed after that, going over last-minute strategies with his engineers and making sure the car was ready for battle.
Once the mechanics rolled him out of the garage and onto the track, you took a seat next to his race engineer, who immediately gave you a pair of headphones.
"How's our boy?" he asked you, a warm smile on his face.
You and Gianpiero had a close relationship ever since he started working with Max, frequently exchanging thoughts and opinions before and after every race.
Sure, you didn't have the whole technical knowledge perfected yet, but you knew your way around the sport and strategies and everything after being with Max for so many years.
"He's nervous, but I know he's going to give it his all. I told him to drive his best and see what happens. Didn't feel like putting more pressure on him than necessary" you explained, earning a nod from the engineer.
"He'll win, I can feel it"
♡♡♡♡♡
And right he was.
Seeing him cross that finish line and checkered flag long before anyone else was like a breath of fresh air. You and Gianpiero jumped up from your seats and hugged each other, your cheeks already full of the tears that were flowing down.
You took your headphones off and make your way out of the garage, impatiently waiting for Max to pull up and get out of the car.
Once you saw his car approaching, you started jumping up and down, feeling happier than you had ever been.
"You did it!!" you screamed once Max got out of the car and enveloped you in his arms.
You didn't even care that he was sweaty and tired, all you could focus on was the fact that he had finally achieved his childhood dream.
"I did it" he sobbed into your shoulder, his arms holding you tightly against his body.
As you stood embraced in the middle of the paddock in your own little bubble, you knew that all of the sleepless nights, the hundred hours of training, the dozens races he's done, his entire hard work has finally paid off.
He was World Champion.
But more importantly, he was your champion.

Brown urges patience with 'cool cat' Oscar Piastri
Tumblr media
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has urged patience from Oscar Piastri’s home support as the Australian gets up to speed at Albert Park this weekend. Piastri has endured a difficult start to his F1 career and sits at the foot of the drivers’ table after the opening two races. But the 21-year-old is far from […]

I wish you know how good you are at this. I mean, you're one of my favourite writers and I keep telling my friends that I wish I could write like you. There are just a few writers that have their own writing style and you are one of them. You are unique, and I read all of your pieces which is something I don't usually do.
Anyway, thanks for your advice, Hazel! Although we don't know each other personally, I really hope you’re okay and that you continue doing the things that make you feel alive because there are a lot of people—including myself—who genuinely care about your well-being.
although I appreciate the kind words, it doesn't matter if I'm good. being good isn't how you get the jobs. I haven't ended up in this situation because I'm bad or don't know enough - I am extremely aware I know how cars and the materials that make them work down to the molecular level, that I'm a very good interviewer and that I build really worthwhile relationships with drivers and teams. I have excellent connections in motorsport, I am well-liked.
that doesn't get you the jobs.
I didn't even get a reply for the last few jobs I was invited to apply to - and I know my applications weren't shit. deputy editor at Racecar Engineering seems fairly obviously a Hazel job but: nothing. Lead Editor at GPFans: nothing. Andretti social job: nothing.
being good is not how this industry works. you can be as mediocre as you like and someone's bff or cousin or something. I cannot reaffirm to you enough times: it is not about who is good or works hard or works well.

Toto Wolff believes George Russell’s maiden pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix is yet another sign that the Briton is a “future World Champion”.
Mercedes motorsport boss Wolff is all smiles as he is confident that in his new British signing, he has a future champion.
“George is a champion in the making and he was a champion in all the junior categories – in F3, F2, as a rookie,” he said as per GPFans.
“We would have never put him in a Mercedes if we didn’t believe he can be a future World Champion.”
[...]
“It is George’s first pole so that will always be something special for him, and us, because that is a moment to remember,” Wolff added.
“But George had these incredible performances in junior series and he had it in Spa last year in the rain. It is just another milestone of the many he is going to achieve.”

RacingNews365 and GPfans each have one, but I’m not sure of their efficacy because I haven’t used them.
Hope this helps though.

also it's very weird that the only source of those quotes is gpfans which doesn't really strike me as a site you'll give exclusive quotes to. like, nobody else reported that 🤔
i honnestly have no idea but gpfans is known to be very clickbait-y and not really reliable

Yuki Tsunoda admits he relocated away from UK due to British food and weather | F1
The AlphaTauri driver was relocated by his team during 2021 and has felt the benefits. “It helped, especially to feel comfortable to live,” Tsunoda told GPFans. “In F1, when you arrive at a track, there is a lot of stress going around, so it is important to be as comfortable as possible when you are away from the track and when you are in the house. “In the UK, the atmosphere there was as much as…

America edges closer to gaining second F1 team after Andretti 'receive HUGE financial backing'
America edges closer to gaining a second F1 team after Andretti Autosport 'receive HUGE financial backing from private equity firm... and company will cover entire $200m entry fee to get them on the grid' Haas are currently the only American-based Formula One team on the grid They could soon be joined by Andretti Autosport after they received backing  Private equity firm with $285billion in assets will pay Andretti's F1 entry fee  Now they need to convince the other F1 teams to allow them to join the sport Click here for all your latest international Sports news from DailyMail.com  By Ben Nagle For Dailymail.Com Published: 16:08 EST, 21 December 2022 | Updated: 16:08 EST, 21 December 2022 America has moved a step closer to gaining a second Formula One team, after Andretti Autosport reportedly received huge financial backing from a private equity firm. The group, led by Michael Andretti - son of former F1 champion Mario - currently has teams in various series, including IndyCar, Formula E and Extreme E, but has yet to break into the F1 market. Now, though, it appears the Formula One dream is a step closer, as Front Office Sports reports they have received a cash injection from private equity firm Guggenheim Partners, who have $285billion in assets under management. The report claims that Andretti will have their $200m F1 entry fee covered, while they are also being provided $200m funding for their facility in Indiana. The group are yet to receive approval from the FIA, and it is as yet unclear whether they could be added to the grid as an 11th team, or would need to wait for a space within the current 10 to become available. F1 is starting to make huge waves in America, with the competition now owned by US-based Liberty Media. Haas F1 are already on the grid, and based in Kannapolis, North Carolina, while Logan Sargeant is set to become the first American driver since 2015 when he gets behind the wheel of a Williams in 2023. Next season, there will also be three races on US soil, with Las Vegas joining Miami and Austin on the calendar. Mario Andretti is far and away the most successful American F1 driver in history, having won the title in 1978, and therefore the team bearing his name has been constantly linked to a move into the sport. It has also been claimed that NASCAR is another potential avenue for Andretti Autosport following its cash injection, although all eyes are currently on F1 to see if they can break through.  Just a decade ago, there were 12 teams on the grid in F1, but the likes of Caterham and HRT were unable to secure the necessary funding to keep their position and were forced to pull out of the series. Any additional teams would need an agreement from the current occupiers of the grid, but F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is certainly not against the change. As quoted by gpfans, he said: 'It is not a problem having one more team to have better racing. Therefore, we will see and monitor the situation. 'If there would be a real, credible new entry that wants to discuss with us, we are ready to discuss. 'But we are not in a rushed position today for that.' I'm surprised you didn't get the job at GPFans! The website screams for a proper lead editor to get them out of the shithole they threw themselves into. But yeah, life is unfair
yeah I was surprised not to get a reply. but they were probably trying to wildly underpay the role, which when you've got my CV it's fairly obvious I'm not going to play ball with - if I have to earn minimum wage, I'll do a minimum wage job in a bar not manage a team of journalists and whatever.
idk, I did ask the guy who told me to apply what happened with it and he said he'd check in but I assume they just like, don't like me and that's fine. I don't like me either.
