A question I get asked a lot while working at a public library is "how do you deal with homeless people?"
And the answer is, we don't.
The unhoused people who come here seeking refuge 99% of the time understand that they will be kicked out if they misbehave.
The people you have to watch out for are Jessica, who only came because the kid she didn't want had to visit for a homework assignment and she just *needs* to yell at her child for asking to borrow two books or stay an extra five minutes, or Michael, who came in to look at porn on our computers for whatever fucking reason, or Karen who just wanted to come by to throw a fit that the particular book she wanted was checked out and harrass our staff about our collection being too limited.
99% of the time, the people we need to ban are middle to upper-middle class white people while the homeless and mentally ill/disabled people mind their own damn business and are honestly some of the best patrons we have.
Ice Spice covers Complex for The Hype Williams Issue
Complex unveils its last digital cover of the year featuring Ice Spice lensed by legendary hip hop photographer, director, and filmmaker Hype Williams for The Hype Williams Issue.
For the cover story, Complex’s Ecleen Luzmila Caraballo sat down with the Brox rapper in Miami to further examine her swift ascent as the torchbearer for women’s dominance in New York rap (and rap in general), on the…
I also enjoyed your Gangle impression you have done, it's both impressive and I find it funny at the end cause you had to cry because it's Gangle you're doing an impression of lol 😂🤣
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was very hard not to burst laughing while recording
I really wish my creative writing teachers through middle and high school had taught me that conflict is more than surviving in the wilderness or slaying a dragon. I wish they would've given me more down to earth and subtle examples.
Conflict is small things, and when you're writing slice of life or fluffy stories, it can be scary to implement it. I used to be really scared of villifying people or things getting too dark, but conflict can be so so small and easy.
Conflict is a broken washing machine. Conflict is lying to your spouse about concert tickets. Conflict is a busy retail shift. Conflict is anything that is a bother. It doesn't even need to be specific. Maybe your conflict is that your character is bored. Boom. Conflict.
Conflict is just any small problem that you can make worse before solving. It's that simple.
So inject some conflict into your stories. Make even your fluff characters suffer a little. Make them suffer of embarrassment over their crush giving them their jacket or suffer fear about a speech. It's okay for them to come out on top, it's great! But suffering is part of life and makes a great story.
