Loved the barbie movie! It was hilarious, but there were also moments where I had the thought "Am I about to break down crying in the freaking Barbie movie?!?" which is.... impressive. Especially since those moments happened almost back to back.
I also really appreciate seeing actual asexual representation in anything. Most of the time it's there by mistake if it's present at all, but this felt like a conscious choice.
It did make me realize that I have, in fact, decorated my entire flat in pink and dolls (and I love it)... but that's not such a bad thing. Just kind of funny.

Went down a small rabbit hole looking up actors in the Barbie movie and found out something that floored me.
Ok, so Alexandra Shipp plays one of the Barbies. I wasn't sure if I'd seen her in anything, so I brought up her IMDB. Turns out she played Storm in a couple of the X-Men movies.
Which ones? X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
I'm a huge X-Men fan, but I'm a fan of the comics, not really the movies. I own quite a few of them but I couldn't even bring myself to watch the last one. Those movies crushed my soul.
I couldn't remember the Apocalypse movie hardly at all. It was so long ago. All I remembered was Olivia Munn as Psylocke. That nerd was so excited to get the role. I wish the movie did her more justice.
Anyways, I'm looking at the IMDB page for that shitty movie and it hits me; I've seen it before.
Y'all, that was the X-Men movie that broke me. For all of my outrage about the third movie, I kept watching them. First Class gave me hope and then destroyed it again and again with every subsequent film.
You know what the real kick in the pants is?
Guess who played Apocalypse.
Y'all.
IT WAS OSCAR ISAAC.
That movie was so bad that not even Oscar Freaking Isaac could save it!
Anyways, I'm totally going to watch the Barbie movie. It looks fun. Plus, they dragged Rhea Pearlman out for that! Do you know how old that woman is? And she's still funny!

Barbie spoilers but one of the funniest things about the “it was too feminist and woke” reviews is that a big chunk of the movie is Ken finding his own agency as a separate entity from Barbie and that the patriarchy also negatively affects men, like Greta Gerwig went “this movie is absolutely also for men” and it STILL flew over their anti feminist heads

honestly, whether Barbie was a good movie or not, I'm glad it's successful- I'm glad people are dressing up in pink and have fun at the movies and I'm glad that it's proving that female voices deserve to be heard and seen and I hope it opens up so many doors for other female filmmakers and that Women of Color and Queer women get to shine too soon
