Yeah your girlfriend discovered she was part of a royal line of giant krakens. She has to become the next queen of the seven seas and stop the mermaids. She has to do it before prom. And she destroyed the school. Sorry.

Hey gator, can you make a fic of Homelander dating a trans reader?
(Also you’re doing amazing, I’m so proud of you, and you’re flipping cool :D)
John Gillman/Homelander x ftm reader
Headcanons
Tumblr media
Im gonna ignore the fact that Homelander would definitely be transphobic in canon, and write this in my canon where I make the rules.
John probably wouldn’t get it in the beginning, as he was definitely raised not being told about the LGBTQ community by vought, outside of the fact that it didn’t meet Americas standards. So, imagine his surprise when he starts having feelings for you, a man.
You weren’t even another hero, you were just a member of the marketing team who worked closer to The Seven than the rest. Maybe it was the fact that you didn’t fawn over them or fear them, or how you didn’t seem to put up with their shit when they made impossible demands.
The only one you seemed to get along with in the beginning was Black Noir and Starlight, as they were both polite in their own ways.
John couldn’t figure out what it was about you, and it would take some time before he realized you were trans, which he’s able to figure out pretty quickly with his x-ray vision. Whether you wear a binder, have top and bottom surgery, or a third thing, he can spot it, since you would look different than cis guys.
He doesn’t know what to do with that information, especially since he’s already attracted to you and has tried to woo you in his own, showboaty way. Its kinda like watching a peacock strutting around trying to attract a mate.
Homelander is very bad at it though, and is kinda obvious about it too, maybe only to you though. Hes cute in his own way though, as he reminds you of a puppy at times, a very dangerous puppy with laser eyes, so in the end you make take the step and ask him out.
John would sputter and blush, but agree to go on a date. Hes never been one for privacy, so expect a lot of questions about being trans, even very intimate ones that you wouldn’t normally ask a stranger.
I can’t say hed be a great boyfriend, but that’s not because you are trans or anything. It’s mainly because he’s just not a good person in general, and he’s very busy as the leader of The Seven and keeping up his ratings.
But if your fine with both of you having busy schedules, him breaking into your apartment at any time of the day, and him not being public about your relationship as it would ruin his ratings, then I say go for it.
I don’t think he would go out of his way to research the trans experience, as he has you to answer all his questions if he has any. John doesn’t end up caring much about gender as a whole, but he will finance any surgeries or treatment if you want any, because he loves you and shows it through pampering you any chance he gets.
If you have breasts though, he would mourn if you got top surgery, since hed want them in his mouth all the time. But just give him something else to fixate on, and he will be fine. Be it your fingers or your next chest, or something third.
If you just wear a binder, expect him to keep a very close eye on your ribcage with his x-ray vision, and expect to be scolded if you wear it for too long, or if he can see it damaging your ribs. He would probably go out of his way to rip it right off you If you have worn it too long, he will just buy you a new one anyways.
All in all, he’s supportive in his own ways, even though those ways can be… questionable at times. He never actually questions if you are a man or not, and never misgenders you, and lashes out as anyone who does, but he does lack behind in certain areas. John does his best with what he’s got though.

Queer Book Recommendations
It's pride season in Wellington, New Zealand and my local library has published its second "Teen Staff Picks" zine! In that spirit, I bring you, a collection of lesser-known queer books featured in the two that have been released so far! I've narrowed the lists down to books that have 1000 or fewer reviews on Goodreads as of posting (though I actually use Storygraph personally). I haven't read most of these, they're new to me as well but looking forward to getting into them.

Support the #transrightsreadathon this week!
Willow and I are supporting this week's Trans Rights Readathon and hope you will, too!
Please read a book by a trans author and consider supporting a trans charity as well! Here are three we recommend:
Trans Lifeline https://translifeline.org/
Transgender Law Center https://transgenderlawcenter.org/
Mermaids (UK) https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/
I'm re-rereading one of my favorite books, All The Birds In The Sky by Charlie Jane Anders, which I highly recommend to everyone. And my family (including my daughter's roommate and boyfriend) are recommending a few other books we love:  Dana Simpson's Phoebe and Her Unicorn series, As The Crow Flies by Melanie Gillman, Nimona by ND Stevenson, and Glory (Image Comics) which was illustrated by Sophie Campbell (and our copy of which has either disappeared or is out on loan).
If you're looking for books to read you can start with those or search the hashtag on social media instead. There are lots of folks posting great recommendations out there and talking about their books, and of course you should always ask your favorite librarian and bookseller for a recommendation. (Charlie Jane Anders even posted a list of some of her favorite trans/non-binary books in her newsletter this morning to get your started.)
Happy reading!
-Gene

ngl just gonna say it. everyone in the ruby gillman tag shipping ruby (a minor) with chelsea/nerissa (who the plot twist reveals to be a GROWN UP who's just disguising herself as a teenager)...
it's so obvious y'all would do anything to avoid drawing ruby's canonical boyfriend, connor. is it because he's black, because he isn't conventionally attractive, or because it's not "gay enough" for you? or is it all three?? is it because he has an actually genuine relationship with her, rather than fitting into your tropey "enemies to lovers" bullshit?

Patterns I Notice In (Male) Reviewers of Childrens Media
You know, I've started to notice something.
I've been watching a lot of movie reviews lately, not limited to children's movies but still a lot of children's movies as obviously children's literature is my main focus as a writer.
Remember how in my post where I talked about how Ruby Gillman showed some of the wrongs in children's media today and I had a back and forth in the comment section with someone who pretty much slammed Ruby as bad but as we talked more and more they ended up being like, "It's just not my cup of tea," as I pointed out his/her core issues with the movie was just personal opinions?
These past months, I became a bit more familiar with reviewers who will just claim a movie is bad if it doesn't comes with profound philosophy and/or not their cup of tea and I actually noticed a pattern.
In regards to the people who use their real voices in YouTube videos or the authors listed in review articles, its mostly men who will downright claim a piece of fiction is terrible based on their opinion instead of wether the story is approaching subject matters in a harmful manner, etc. I barely see any women acting like 'I hated this movie, so should everyone else'.
An obvious example that comes to mind, is Monsters vs Aliens.
To me, it's not a masterpiece either and there were definitely a writing decision or two that was made poorly. However, I don't think it has earnt the label of bad or terrible whilst I've heard/seen multiple men call this movie as such.
On an entertainment level of value, does it entertain kids? Yes. As a kid I thought it was okay at its worst, good at its best moments.
Does it have a harmful message or premise? No.
Are the minor storybeats problematic or unrealistic? No. In fact, Derek breaking of their engagement not only mirrors insecure men threatened by more powerful women but it also mirrors some of the douchebags people who developped a terminal illness or disability have dated. Because of the many ship edits, I know not a lot of people actually know the story behind Arcade, the Eurovision hit by Duncan Laurence.
In ship edits, this song often gets used for tragic ships or doomed star crossed lovers, but it's actually about having wasted everything for a relationships that is not worth it and that is the key part of the song people always miss. You see, the story behind the song is this;
Duncan Laurance had a friend who was diagnosed with cancer and she had no chance for recovery. Her boyfriend, rather then being there for her in her final moments, broke up with her and she spent her final days, lovesick on her deathbed waiting for him to come back but he never did. Duncan wrote the song in her memory but also to be a cautionary tale for himself, to never become the idiot wasting their final moments on a asshole who left you to die with a broken heart!
Susan and Derek reminds me of that story, because men like Derek would have also left Susan if he found out she was terminally ill or got into an accident that left her disabled.
So the movie's storytelling isn't downright terrible by any means and the animation is also decent. But again, I've heard multiple men take a dump on this movie for being trash.
I'll admit my brain is too foggy to remember how well the other monsters were written but considering the main story rested on Susan's shoulders and that was told acceptable enough and they gave her the self-acceptance she needed, how well they are fleshed out isn't too much of a deciding factor wether its good, okay or bad when it comes to stories aimed at younger children.
How well characters outside of the protagonist are developped and how important that is to the overall story really depends on the age demographic as well as the kind of story at hand. The more characters a child is meant to empathize for and follow their direction during the story, the more difficult it is to grasp for the really young ones. Small kids prefer having one fleshed out protagonist with a weaker cast over every character having a deeply developped backstory. Flat side characters are a thing in children's media for a reason.
Shows have a somewhat unique position for their ability to flesh out the characters because they have way more time to tell the story so they can easily create a filler episode where a background character shines even if its meant for a way younger audience and it also has the option to have the characters grow and become semi-fleshed out alongside the viewer if the show gets popular enough for a long-run.
In the case of a slightly older kid demographic, this can lead to fully fleshed out masterpieces like ATLA, though not every kid show should be on their level for us not to bash the property. Brain dumb entertainment can still be a masterpiece in a kid's eyes and could lead to them becoming a long-time fan for nostalgic reasons.
What we should bash, are harmful kids shows like Cocomelon who's animation was literally proven to be too fast for a young kid's brain to follow hence the infamous Cocomelon zombie-kid and the Cocomelon tantrums became a thing, because their brain speed has adjusted to a speed faster then real life speed. Anyone who listened often to Nightcore and then went on to listen to the original version, likely encountered this effect with the original song suddenly sounding slower then you remember it- thats your brain speed having adjusted to the Nightcore version.
I couldn't believe my eyes when the far right recently turnt on Cocomelon because of there being some LGBT episode, when Cocomelon was already proven to mess up a kid's brain speed and in kids with brains that are still that lacking of development we don't know how much fucking with their brain speed will lead to in their development. I saw parents turning away from that show during the Pandemic for this very reason so I was flabbergasted so many parents on the far right still let their kids watch Cocomelon in the first place!
It's cheaply made harmful material and I was quite literally fuming with all the stupid parents saying 'God, I really have to keep in mind what type of content my kids consumne', like yeah no shit Sherlock! The fact your kids were still watching all of it after the many controversies, proved you never cared about the quality of media your kids consumne in the first place, don't pull that stupid Pikachu face! The fact LGBT content is the straw and not the actual harm this show does to children's brain development makes me want to punch someone in the face.
Can male reviewers please start targeting the actual bad children's movies and shows and not shit on movies who simply didn't managed to strike the gold of a masterpiece in storytelling and possibly animation? If someone were to force me between watching Dreamworks' Trolls franchise the entire day over and over again and just one hour of Cocomelon, I'd still pick Trolls in a heartbeat.
Because watching an okay is always more better then watching a movie/show that actually deserves the label terrible.

Character Design #4: Lagoona Blue
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My 4th character reveal for this month, Lagoona! I remember when I first saw the pink Lagoona for G3, and while it was an adjustment, I thought it would be super cool if she got a color-changing doll that turns blue and back to pink depending on hot/cold water (Like those Barbie Mermaidia/Color Reveal dolls), to alter her appearance in fresh water. Don't know if Mattel would ever do that, but consider this idea to be why I have a pink variant of Lagoona. I found a pretty cool way to incorporate it, I think!
Name: Lagoona Blue Aliases: Age: 15 Pronouns: She/Her Monster Type: Sea Monster/Ocean Nymph Hybrid Descendant Of: Wade Gillman-Blue and Darya Blue Freaky Flaw: “Moisturizing my skin is a constant on land, or I dry up real quick. My hair also gets streaks of blue from chlorine in the school's pool, and pink when I'm in fresh water. I think it goes well with my swim team uniforms!” Grade Level: 2nd year/Sophomore Favorite Subject: Oceanography Character Description: In the depths beyond the coast of Australia, Lagoona thrived as Great Scarrier Reef's renowned aqua dancer. After a traumatic incident during one of her performances, she was left struggling with performance anxiety. Wishing to transfer away from her school in the Reef, she swam the shoreline of Salem to attend Monster High, starting in her freshman year, living in her father's vacation home on the beach side. She was afraid at first to join the school's swim team, fearing another public performance mishap, but encouragement from the team captain at the time convinced her to give it a try. She was elected to be his predecessor before his graduation, a title she carries dutifully. Going into the new year, Lagoona hopes to open an aqua dancing team for Monster High, to perform with the fearleaders and rekindle the flame she had lost before.
Additional Info: - Lagoona carries herself in a way that pretty much everyone can get along with. She encourages everyone she meets to face their fears or to try their hand (or claw) at a new skill. If there's a way to support her friends' talents and interests, she'll be first in line to do so. - While she still struggles with her performance anxiety, she has found ways to cope with her fear and face it head-on. Her former captain advised to focus on the water, not the audience, which has helped her greatly. - After joining the swim team in the previous year, she met her boyfriend Gil, a fresh water monster. His family despises her, but both of them stay together against their wishes. He often stays at her beach house to avoid his parents. - Because she is a sea monster, as opposed to a river monster, she has the ability to survive in both environments. However, the lack of salt in fresh water causes a change in Lagoona's appearance, but does not affect her ability to breathe. -- When she is in fresh water, a majority of her skin turns a salmon pink hue. Her eyes deepen to a dark brown-hazel, and her platinum blonde hair deepens to a more common shade of blonde. -- She can still swim, though her speed isn't as fast as it is in salt water. - Most of her family, especially her father, are always present for her competitions. Because her mother cannot leave the ocean, her father records every competition to show her. It may sound discouraging to her anxiety, but knowing her family supports her makes it all the more worth it, no matter if her team wins or loses. - Prior to the AU's beginning, Lagoona mostly hangs out with her teammates, though she has encountered Gil's manster friends on occasion. - Besides her sport passions in the pool, she loves to play volleyball, often inviting her team to play beach volleyball at her home. Her swim captain duties prevent her from joining MH's volleyball team, as they both run in the same season.

Sea Serpent Headcanons (Jake Long x Ruby Gillman)
Considering Jake and Ruby are from different races it could be somewhat frowned upon or problematic in a way. Which could bring in some angst and drama (I love drama!)
Jake holding Ruby in her Giant Kraken form to prove how strong his love for her! That is the most cheesiest but sweetest thing ever done.
I can imagine the dragon council being terrified of the possibilities of a Dragon and Kraken one day having a child that has both of their parents abilities so they try and set Jake up with Noble Dragonesses but tend to forget (as always) that dragon's are loyal to their partners.
Grandmamah on the other hand is very suspicious because the only dragon's she's ever faced was the leviathan and a Hydra which both are somewhat water dragons and that there are confirmed evil dragon's in Jake Long canon.
Jake introduces Ruby to dragon media like Spyro The Dragon and Httyd.
Ruby holding Jake in her hand and says "This is my lizard boyfriend, he's stupid but he means well." Jake just pouts at the truth of him being dumb but still finds it funny.
When they first met Ruby did not want to interact with him due to his extroverted and overtop personality that somehow winds up in detention but after spending time with him she can't understand how she fell in love with him
Jake just fell head over heels for Ruby just by her sweetheart personality and how smart she is.
Btw there is a potion in Jake Long lore that is can permanently change your species. So if Ruby and Jake are forbidden to date or start a life together he could always sacrifice his Draconic heritage just to be with Ruby as a Kraken.
Ruby secretly looked up skateboard lessons on YT just to share his love for skateboarding.
Jake tends to have the draconic instincts to treasure any gifts is given to him and put it in a secret compartment... basically his treasure horde. Ruby does this but it's to treasure his adorable trinkets.
I think there's more but I would like your shared thoughts on this?
Oooh. I feel like the conflict would definitely come more from the Dragon side of the things. Krakens being deep within the sea means they've hardly ever had to deal with most normal-type dragons and thus probably don't have much of relationship with them compared to krakens vs mermaids. The dragons on the other hand would judge more if only because royal krakens are so much bigger (and potentially dangerous).
My gosh. Imagine....a giant kraken kid that has wings so it can fly. That child would be utterly unstoppable. All three bases are covered in sea, land, and air. A;lkajsdfasd
Yeah, I agree with that. Then she kinda calms down when the dragons say they're not really associated with their sea-based cousins.
Hehehehe! That's so cute and true. Jake is forever envious over how good Ruby is at her school subjects while still balancing protection work. Granted, it can be too much for Ruby sometimes so having Jake around to help out is a great relief for her and vice versa.
Ppfft yeah that sounds about right. Initially off-put by him but once they realized how similar they are in terms of backgrounds and desires, they start bonding more and more.
Ooooooooh. Could he become a sea dragon though?
Awww that's so cuteee I love it!

Some characters I done made up
Ex cultist turned holy knight, slutty fish bard who doesn't do their job, angry buff woman, her boyfriend and sidekick.
Brynn
Race: human
Age: 25
Pronouns: she/her
Occupation: knight
Religion: The Dawnmother, to a lesser extent the whole celestial pantheon
Birthplace: Helmsridge, Breland
Class: paladin, oath of redemption (5e) champion, redeemer (pf 2e)
Skin: light brown
Eyes: brown
Hair: black
A devout follower of the Goddess of the Dawn. While she is a trained warrior, she believes her goddess's ideals of healing and redemption and prefers to leave her foes alive, should they show remorse for their actions. She was raised in the cult of Asmodeus, running away at a young age and being taken in by a local priestess and eventually joining the order of the Redeemer.
Vyrona/Vyron/Vy Bluefin
Race: Triton (gillman/azarketi in pathfinder)
Age: 23
Pronouns: any/they
Occupation: Diplomatic officer, courtier, folk musician, slut
Religion: No particular deity, does hold reverence for the Lord of song.
Birthplace: Trident Kingdoms
Class: bard, college of lore
Skin: blue
Eyes: cyan
Hair: green
While their work usually leaves them confined to a diplomatic office, Vyrona was eager to join the quest when learning the Trident realms was threatened to. In truth they only took the job to evade nagging family by living on land. This quest serves simply as a means to avoid his usual paperwork.
Sigrid of the Blackblade tribe
Race: Human
Age: 22
Pronouns: she/her
Occupation: mercenary
Birthplace: Skjorland
Religion: Raven Queen, Stormlord
Class: barbarian
Skin: light
Eyes: blue
Hair: red
A young barbarian having come south to find work as a mercenary. While she can be abrasive, much of her reputation is deliberately cultivated to sell her capabilities as a warrior for hire. In truth she is quite fond of her companions and simply cares little for upper class pleasantries.
Hanoriel
Race: Wood Elf
Age: 103
Pronouns: he/him
Occupation: mercenary, hunter
Religion: no dedication, general reverence for the elven and the druidic pantheons.
Birthplace: Silverpines, Elderwood Vale
Class: ranger
Skin: copper/tan
Eyes: green
Hair: dark red
A wandering hunter who used the skills famous to his kind to earn coin in all corners of the world. Now Sigrid's Partner, the two are similarly outcasts in the coastal cities for their rustic backgrounds and perceived "uncivilized" nature. Nonetheless they are seen by Brynn as fine combatants with *generally* good intentions and fit to accompany her and Vy on her missions.
These four will be basis for several short stories, I may add/remove members of the team temporarily. I'll probably post later about my setting more generally and any campaigns I run. Two later addition that I intend to remain as long-term members are a Losi Atazi, human wizard and Talia Ylmir, a tiefling rogue (more about them later).

Wade, part One
Tumblr media
Rating: SFW Length: 1304 Pairing: Male Gillman/Fishman x GN Reader
For @momolady who inspires me every day.
xxx
You gasped, and the pressure of water filling your lungs burned. Your eyes stung, your mind screamed, and your heart battered against your ribs like a caged animal fighting to escape. You had been swimming one moment and beneath the waves the next, and you’d only been able to hold your breath for so long before your body demanded that you inhale. Your vision blurred and shifted, blue turning into green turning into grey and finally into black. This was how you would die, you realised, and despaired.
An instant later, you spew seawater onto the sand.
Your lungs feel like someone’s taken a cheese grater to their linings, and you’re pretty sure that it’s more than just seawater that comes out of your mouth, but you’re too exhausted and disoriented to look at anything too closely. You roll onto your back and blink up at where the sky should be, only to get an eyeful of a strange, alien face above you. It’s covered in blue-green scales and lacks a discernible nose, with wide fins on either side instead of any hair on the top of the head. Bright pink eyes with an abalone sheen stare unblinkingly at you, almond-shaped and bigger than any you’ve ever seen. As you watch, thin membranes flicker sideways over them and then retract, effectively blinking without closing.
You scream.
He screams.
You both scramble back and away from one another. You just about manage to hear, “Watch out!” before your head hits something solid, making your vision swim and your limbs spasm. When you next come to, you’re on your side again and the creature is crouching in a tide pool nearby, arms around his knees and eyes on your face. “Your parents are looking for you,” he announces without preamble, revealing needle-sharp teeth when he speaks.
“Wh-Who are you?” you ask, shivering in both fear and physical shock.
The creature whistles and clicks, gurgles and growls. “But you can’t pronounce that,” he says, voice gravelly with amusement as he grins.
You scowl at him, sitting up and wrapping your arms around yourself. You’re all scraped up and your swimsuit is torn; your mother will be upset, to be sure. “Well, why don’t you have another name?” you demand, offense taking over your fear. “One people can pronounce!”
His grin widens, eyes thinning into coral-peach slits. “Give me one.”
“Huh?”
“Give me a name,” he challenges, splashing his webbed fingers through the water around him and scooping up a tiny crab by the pincer. “If you give me a name including ‘fin’, I’ll drown you.”
“What kind of deal is that?” you snipe back, anger flaring. “Why would you save me just to drown me?”
“It was a joke. Situational irony. Ever heard of that?”
“I’m twelve,” you reply, crossing your arms over your chest and glaring at the creature. “Just for that, I’m calling you Wade.”
There’s a pregnant pause.
“That’s fair.”
As you watch, Wade flings the little crab into his mouth and bites down with a wet crunch that makes you shudder, stomach flopping like a caught fish. “Ew.”
“Don’t like crab?”
“Not when it’s alive.”
“But it’s fresh,” Wade points out, bemused. “Are humans scavengers?”
“What? No! We cook our food.”
“‘Cook’?”
You open and close your mouth, unsure how to proceed. “We… put stuff on it and cook it with heat.”
Wade stirs, straightening up with a smile. “Like fire?”
He must not see fire very often, you figure, so you can’t help but smile back at him. “Like fire. We use gas and set it on fire to cook with, but we don’t usually put food right in the fire unless we’re camping.”
“‘Camping’? How else do you cook?”
This leads to a long and meandering discussion of how humans consume food, and you find that you eventually gain enough confidence around Wade to join him at the edge of the tide pool, dipping your feet into the sun-warmed water and brushing your toes against the webbing between his. You learn that he isn’t but a year or two older than you, “give or take a few lunar cycles”, and that he’s being educated in politics and human customs in the event that their kind are discovered. Naturally, this led to a curiosity of humans, so he spends most of his time off dangerously near the coast.
“You’re lucky I was nearby when the rip took you,” he says with a huff, poking at you with a thick, clawed finger. “You would have gotten waterlogged and washed up bloated on the shore if I hadn’t been.”
“That’s gross!” you whine, swatting his finger away with a pout. “Don’t say that!”
“It’s true! Humans get all pale and squishy when they die underwater. That would have been you, too, if it weren’t for me.” Wade preens, but you roll your eyes, toeing at a little starfish you can see beneath the water.
“Have you seen many dead humans, then?”
“Only when their ships sink in our territories. It’s my job to swim into the smaller spaces and retrieve what artifacts I can.”
“You mean you rob their graves?”
“Call me an archaeologist,” Wade replies with a shrug, waving away your concern. “At the very least, we try not to disturb the bodies, which is more than can be said for humans among themselves, or so I hear.”
You blush, angry and embarrassed. He has a point. “What kind of artifacts do you recover?” you eventually find yourself asking, curious despite your pique.
“Anything written is prized,” says Wade, “but only if they’re waterproof or in watertight containers. We take what won’t be missed and leave things like ship manifests and other logs. Aside from that, metal blades and utensils. They tarnish easily, so we keep them clean by buffing them with sand to maintain their shine. After that, anything mechanical that will work regardless of the circumstances, and then fabrics and anything that can be repurposed underwater.”
“That’s… actually pretty cool,” you admit, enthralled.
“Maybe I’ll show you one of our storehouses one day,” Wade replies, eyes creasing as he grins at your expense. “When you can swim, I mean.”
“I can swim!” you snap, getting miffed all over again before your mind registers the use of the word ‘someday’. “Wait. You mean I’ll see you again?”
“Of course,” Wade sniffs, two tiny nostrils on his face flaring. “I saved your life. You have to be my friend now.”
“Oh, is that how that works?” you grumble, crossing your arms again. “Some friend you are. All you’ve done is make fun of me.”
Wade blinks back at you, startled. “Do humans not make fun of the people they like?”
You narrow your eyes at him. “My mom says that boys shouldn’t do that because they’re just being shit-heads. If you like somebody, you have to be nice to them.”
Wade makes a thoughtful noise, almost a gurgle. “I’ll have to study more human sociology. You can help me.”
“Me?”
“You’re a human. I study humans. I can learn a lot about you.”
“But I only got a 48 in my last social studies test!”
Wade laughs, a cackle that makes him toss his head back and flare the fins on the side of his face. “Then we’ll learn together—you about me, and me about you!”
“Deal,” you tell him, sure that you would only get this opportunity once in your short little lifetime. You hold out your hand and Wade blinks at it, but the sound of someone calling your name in the distance spurs him into reaching out and shaking it. His scales are warm to the touch, smooth and soft against your fingers, and you find yourself grinning back at him. “To friendship.”
“To friendship,” Wade echoes, and laughs again.
