#geralt loves his bard!
Text
Prompt 12
Geralt has a thing for biting. Jaskier has a thing for not looking like a mauling victim the day he performs at a very prestigious court. Geralt agrees he'll hold off on the biting for a few nights, so Jaskier is "presentable." But now he looks unclaimed. He looks like he has nobody that loves him and watches over him. Nobody that can bite him in the heat of passion. Geralt sucks it up and decides that he'll just have to come along to make sure nobody gets any ideas about doing anything to his bard. And so what if he spends most of the night staring longingly at Jaskier's neck like some kind of starved vampire? Who says you get to judge? *grumpy witcher noises*

[MASTERPOST]
Eskel is like "I WILL read this book about... A wolf and all his friends? Dancing and being. happy... 🥺"
#the witcher netflix#geraskier lovechild#eskel#soft eskel#geraskier#(no jeskel I am sorry but honestly I can see it at times)#omegaverse#listen retrospectively Eskel will slap his face (repeatedly) because it is at times pretty obvious (but only if you know!!)#did Milek accidentally call Eskel 'daddy' a few times? ofc he did. (how should Eskel know that he didn't just mixed it up in excitement.)#'oh he clearly meant his omega father' WELL#Roach should have been an indicator! but it's either that that name is in one of jaskiers songs (probable) and jaskier is like#'oh yeah he likes that one bard song about the horse - I swear he loves horses'#(that isn't even a lie and it's very Jaskier to compose an ode for Roach)#or he just goes 'We heard stories about a witcher crossing our town-'#and now wolf themed kids book. it's-#oh well#a lot of things are obvious when you look back to them#and I think Eskel could have made the connection! if Jaskier still had a lute. he would have gone at least once '... geralts omega bard??'#(who Geralt didn't really talk about but who they always could still smell traces of on him - bad thing that scents change after pregnancy)#but no lute?? connection not made.#that's the one jaskier thing Eskel knows of. always has a lute.#and retrospectively he can see that Milek and Geralt really look alike - it's at this age more obvious than later - because that is the age#that Eskel remembers. In which he still has a mental picture of what Geralt looked like? but it's been SO LONG#over a century#and Eskel was a traumatized child too. Things are. Very muddy.#the only ones who have a chance to recognize Milek are Visenna and Vesemir and that's it.

Jaskier graduated summa cumme laude from the most prestigious university on the continent. He acts like a superficial and disinterested bard all the time, but from time to time he acts like what he is, a master of the 7 liberal arts: Grammar, Rhetoric, Logic, Geometry, Arithmetic, Music and Astronomy.
Geralt doesn't notice this until Radovid shows up.
Every now and then Jaskier would blurt out a nonsensical comment that usually isn't meant for anyone, other than Geralt with his great ear, to hear.
The prince, hears everything that comes out of the bard's mouth and it is surprising when he laughs at whatever Jaskier said to the bard's amazement. Most amazingly, Radovid responds with another nonsensical comment that makes Jaskier laugh.
Geralt looks at them with a frown. Jaskier stops his laughter and eagerly asks the prince if he has read the philosopher he was apparently quoting. Radovid launches into a story of how his private tutor forced him to read the philosopher and he subsequently became enchanted with the man's writings and read his work for his own pleasure.
The more they travel, the more that happens. It turns out that the apparent nonsense Jaskier occasionally spouted is actually quotes, references and facts from philosophers, poets, astronomers, mathematicians, etc., that he was taught in college or read himself. Radovid responds to each of them with charm and delight, because apparently, Radovid has read them all as part of his royal education.
Geralt is not jealous. He isn't. No matter what Ciri and Yennefer say. He just doesn't like being out of the joke, doesn't like both of them acting like others aren't there and having to listen to their academic conversations when no one but them seems to care.
He just doesn't like that Jaskier smiles like never every time Radovid quotes an old poet of yesteryear that no one but them has read, as if it's an inside joke, because there should be no secrets in their group. He also doesn't like it when Jaskier laughs so loud because that can attract monsters. He hates that Jaskier sits next to Radovid every night talking about boring books because they are mere humans and if something attacks them, then both will be in danger and Geralt will only be able to save one (cof cof Jaskier), it's simple strategy. And absolutely not jealous because the bard now asks the prince for his advice when he writes songs, it's just that was something that used to de-stress Geralt and now he can't sleep well anymore. It's simple comfort.
But it all finally goes to shit when Jaskier turns down Geralt's invitation to spend the winter in Kaer Morhen because stupid Radovid invited him to his castle on the coast where he apparently has the best collection of maritime astronomy on the continent.
Geralt spends all that winter stuck in the library of Kaer Morhen reading anything that might interest Jaskier other than bestiaries. He tries very hard not to think about his bard and the prince huddled in front of the fire looking up at the stars until late at night drinking wine, getting closer and closer and closer until…
No. He won't allow it. When he sees Jaskier in the spring, he'll be sure to casually mention everything he read in winter, he'll make a fool of the prince when Geralt shows his bard the ancient books he brought him from the Wolf school library (not that Vesemir needs to know what came out of his precious library).
He'll graduate summa cumme laude from freaking Oxenfurt if it means getting his bard's attention again.

Jaskier: I'm starving! Geralt: You just ate. Jaskier: I'm wasting away! Geralt: You're fine. Jaskier: I'm dangerously underweight! Geralt: Your sides have fat rolls… Jaskier: :C Geralt, sighing: Fine. Here's a snack.

The first time Jaskier says it they're washing their clothes at a river. As always Jaskier is talking Geralt's brains out. The bard only says it to see if Geralt is paying attention “I love you.” As if one is commenting on the weather. The witcher, of course, is not listening. So Jaskier resorts to this strategy to know when it is convenient to be silent, when his witcher needs silence.
"I love you. I love you and oh don't close my eyes to yours, my... sweet ? mmmh no, my dove... well your hair is white so...." but Geralt is lost in his thoughts even when he says he'll hear Jaskier's poetry, that ungrateful man! But Jaskier loves him all the same.
He even whispers it in Geralt's arms, after a very satisfactory fuck "I love you" followed by the witcher's snores. Ugh!
He even tries when Yennefer is there, flirting with Geralt with her indifference across the room. As always, Geralt's attention is on her, on her every move, and Jaskier is left like an idiot talking with Geralt, acting like he holds a small portion of him with the witch in the picture.
"I don't like it here, you know? That man, yes the one with the weird double chin, is looking at me like I'm a fine dessert, I sure am, but not for him. Only for you my dear, if you so want me. But no, oh no, you don't want me, at least not right now, you're not even here! You're there, yes! with your powerful, man-eater witch, she's a cannibal, dear, you should know that by now. But of course you don't care, you're not even listening! Why am I surprised? You'd not hear when I say that I love you, you bastard, or yes! there's a hole on your trousers right on your left cheek, we all can see everything, my darling, didn't take you for an exhibitionist”
And then…
“I'm not, but this one was the only clean one.” Geralt says without taking his eyes from Yen.
"That's not true, you have at least a spare pair of trousers. Wait... what?" Geralt huffs a laugh and the corner of his lips lifts in a mocking smile. So charming, the bastard.
"Were you listening?"
"I'm always listening, Jaskier."
"Ha! that's not true, you see, I have a way of knowing..."
"Yeah?"
"Yes, but you wouldn't know it, because you don't always pay attention to me." concludes Jaskier like a petulant child.
"This have anything to do with the last ten times you’ve said I love you to me at random times?" Jaskier's jaw drops like a fish out of water, panicking.
"Did you listen all those times? Why didn't you say anything? you...you damn..." Geralt sighs and turns to the bard to cup his face in his hands, squeezing hard enough to crush the bard's cheeks.
“Because I was looking for the right moment to say it back, but you're always ahead of me” Jaskier pouts and it's kinda cute. “Every. fucking. time”  Geralt growls after placing each one of the three kisses on the plump lips.
"I love you, Jaskier" the bard huffs annoyed and frees his face form Gralt's grasp to say "yeah? well, I don't care, go to your witch, as you always does"
"I love it when you get jealous”
“What?!”

No because jaskier making jokes about geralt dying as a coping mechanism for them BOTH like the reason they work together and have lasted so long is because geralt NEEDS that lightness and the jokes and the downplaying how bad it is bc otherwise he gets too in his head he NEEDS jaskier to come in a joke about milking his death for at least three songs (and one epic poem) because they both know deep down that geralt dying would change jaskier as a person forever and so jaskier joking about it (IF geralt dies) is a way for both of them to take heart because geralt knows that jaskier just has this complete faith in him and THAT’S why jaskier makes the jokes because the alternative to jokes is too horrifying to even consider

feeling some type of way about the juxtaposition of “are you sure you have the right man?” and “i’m just a bard,” and “the sandpiper’s just a title” with “because you love yourself.” like. maybe it’s just a funny throwaway. maybe it’s a clone sex joke and that’s as deep as it goes. but maybe, underneath, buried under all that insecurity and self deprecation (which is buried in turn under all that gilded arrogance and puffed up affectation), she (they?) sees down to where he really, actually, truly does love himself. to where jaskier is exactly who he wants to be. to where he is proud of himself and his work and this life he has built. way down deep, underneath all the times he’s been told to shut up and stop caterwauling and god julian, can’t you just sit still for once? and it’s like ordering a pie and finding it has no filling and if life could give me one blessing and we’re all just one big happy family, right? no. and the crow’s feet are new, and and and and
and somehow, still, under all that, the thing he loves most is still himself. as it should be.

Prompt 14
Jaskier is sure Geralt ignores most of what he says. That is, until Geralt leaves his journal behind when he goes to hunt one day. Jaskier trips on it and goes to put it in his pack, light-heartedly muttering to Roach about how much of a slob that man is, before seeing his name plastered all over the page. He takes a deep breath and prepares himself to read a page filled with nothing but insults and a rant of how annoying Jaskier must be, only to find out the journal is filled with paragraph after paragraph of loving descriptions and insights into everything Jaskier speaks or sings about, including the occasional highly-detailed sketch of him, made with love. Jaskier reads page after page after page after page after page, and only stops when interrupted by Geralt's shocked intake of breath as he comes back to camp.

Pre-Prompt fic that ticks some of the boxes was found by @merthurmagic! It focuses on the drawing part, but it's very sweet! It involves getting together, and the kaer morhen boys! I'm not a personal fan of the way dialogue is written, with angle brackets instead of quotation marks, but it's still a good read!

hi, first off i really love your art. the h/c and warmth really hit me where i live and your illustration style is fantastic. lately i've been obsessed with the post where an unwell milek thinks geralt will leave him behind. was that an ingrained insecurity, assuming his super-witcher dad wouldn't have time for a sickly human kid?
[MASTERPOST] - Ahh, thank you for the ask! Yes, this scene.. I actually saw this a bit differently! It's not about Milek fearing Geralt will leave him behind, he actually wants him to. They need to find his Pa!! I think he often feels like a burden; Jaskier knows this, but Geralt isn't aware of this yet. Milek just wants to pull his weight, especially with Jaskier. A little sneak peak to their struggles regarding this:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Jaskier continues to struggle with his omega status.
#jaskier#the witcher#geraskier lovechild#julian alfred pankratz#omegaverse#there are various things happening here! a. Milek never really had to fear that Jaskier would leave him he knows he never ever would#b. Jaskier said again and again that he'll always care for him and loves him and that he doesn't have to pull any weight at all#c. Jaskier actually became the parent that just wants his kid to be educated and study and learn#(maybe because he knows Milek won't be able to do hard labour but also because he knows what Milek really wants to do)#(filed under: things I haven't drawn yet but they had their big fallout because of oxenfurt and university - things to come in the future)#d. Milek has watched Jaskier working his ass off in various jobs that he didn't like#(and he thinks that prostitution is the worst but only because they didn't properly talk about it before)#e. Jaskier is struggling with how he is percieved - which I think was never that much on his mind when he was travelling with Geralt#being a carefree bard and giving everyone the middlefinger who had some wrong ideas about what he could do and what not#but this is definitely an AU in which he doesn't have a good relationship with his father and he can still hear him say he'll become#'an unbonded omega with a bastard child working on the streets' and I think sometimes it gets to him#(because Jaskier is king of hating his parents ever being right about him)#that Jaskier kind of wants to spare Milek and quietly hopes we won't become an omega - even if he feels bad about it - shall become plot#(one dayyyy)#anyway that was a very long rant about Mileks complex relationship with him feeling like a burden

So in NOTW Illyana had three daughters with Lord Zerbst, one of whom had just made her a grandmother before the Sacking of Kaer Morhen. As children of a noble house, those daughters would've married into other noble houses across the Continent.
Anyway AU where she survives to see her youngest daughter marry a Pankratz of Lettenhove.
She survives to see the birth of several grandchildren and even more great-grandchildren, including a brood of Pankratzes.
Everyone in Jaskier's family knows that Great-Grandmama had a tame witcher. It's part of the Family Lore. Jaskier - Julian, back then - spent more time in disgrace at Great-Grandmama's lake house than his better-behaved siblings, and he's fairly sure he actually bumped into the witcher - gods, what was his name? - once or twice; tall and strong, golden-eyed and intimidating. He's only ever known Great-Grandmama as a twinkly-eyed, wizened raisin of a woman who walked with a cane, but her witcher looked young enough to be her grandson himself, no older than Father.
(He's fairly sure he only remembers these chance meetings at all because Great-Grandmama's witcher really had been quite startlingly handsome. Jaskier has always appreciated broad shoulders and toned arms. Perhaps this was something of a formative experience for him.)
She told him once that they'd once been children together, and that her witcher had grown boys of his own, but Jaskier hadn't believed her. No way they were the same age.
They seemed happy, though, despite the age gap. He remembers her giggling like a schoolgirl as her witcher swept her off her feet to lift her into her carriage as though she weighed nothing at all.
(Looking back, and with the advantage of knowing Geralt, the swords the monster hunter carried probably weighed more than she did, by then. She really was terribly old.)
He remembers the roll of letters she kept in her bedside drawer - yes, he was a snoop as a boy, sue him - tied up with a silk ribbon. Remembers the stories she told him when he was small, of brave and heroic monster hunters protecting the innocent from a grisly fate.
He finds himself telling Geralt's family this little nugget of Pankratz family history over an evening of ale, passing on Great-Grandmama's stories. The one about the two young witchers teaming up against a manticore. The one about the big battle at some hidden witcher fortress a long way from Lettenhove - the battle that almost killed her witcher, and would've killed her too had he not sent her away beforehand. The one about the witcher and the elf king.
And when he finishes the story, he realises that his audience has gone very quiet and very still
And they're all staring at Vesemir

growing up in a manor house or whatever means that jaskier knows where all the secret/servants’ passages are, how to pick locks, schedules, etc. i feel like this could be very important and entertaining information should him and geralt need it. also it would be so funny to see geralt so surprised that jaskier knows and can put to use so many things like that

geraskier // absolute fluff // in which Jaskier puts some makeup on Geralt and Geralt is just... incredibly in love with him
The moment he walks in, the sight of him knocks the wind out of Geralt.
All because Jaskier is... gorgeous. Not that he normally isn’t, but his beauty is especially striking when he’s all dressed up and in full make up - blush on his cheeks, red lipstick, winged eyeliner that seems to stretch out all the way to his temples. Geralt feels like a weaker man just at the sight of him alone.
Jaskier, of course, notices Geralt’s eyes on him instantly and, bloody tease that he is, does a little twirl, showing off the lengthened tails at the back of his shirt, sparkling with the many tiny gemstones sewn into the fabric. Geralt is vaguely aware of him asking How do I look? but truthfully, he’s not paying much attention to the words at the moment, too enraptured by the look of him. His feet carry him forward on their own and then he’s pulling Jaskier into his arms. Jaskier is, naturally, completely pliant under his touch and only laughs at his affections.
“Pretty lark,” Geralt rumbles into his neck as he nuzzles close, breathing in the scent of Jaskier’s perfume.
“Geralt, you’re going to ruin both my make up and my hair if you keep pressing yourself up against me like this,” Jaskier whines, though makes absolutely no effort to push him away. Good.
“Your fault. For looking so... pretty.”
“Oh, of course,” Jaskier snorts. He pulls back, just enough so that he can cradle Geralt’s face in both of his hands. “Come here, you,” he hums.
He strokes Geralt’s cheekbones with his thumbs and leans in to press a kiss to his lips. They both linger there for a moment, Geralt nearly melting into the touches. When Jaskier pulls away, he tries to follow his lips with his own, but Jaskier stops him with a hand against his chin.
“Maybe we shouldn’t be going out anywhere,” Geralt grumbles while Jaskier busies himself with swiping his index finger against Geralt’s lips. Geralt raises an eyebrow at him, barely resisting the urge to nibble at the rough skin on Jaskier’s fingertip, toughened up after years of playing the lute.
“No, we definitely should...” Jaskier murmurs, but it’s clear by the tone of his voice that his thoughts are elsewhere entirely.
“What is it, Julek?” Geralt prompts gently.
“My lipstick,” Jaskier muses. “It suits you.”
He turns his finger towards Geralt to show off the lipstick that now stains it, clear proof that he had tried to wipe it off Geralt’s lips after they kissed. Geralt, as though on an instinct, leans in to press a kiss to it, but that is exactly the moment Jaskier decides to suddenly disentangle himself from his arms.
Before Geralt has the time to complain about it or even figure out what’s happening, Jaskier is already grabbing his hand and pulling him further inside the flat rather than out of it.
“Jask, what are you -”
"Don't worry, darling, it won't take long!"
Jaskier moves like a whirlwind, his steps easy and smooth as he lets go of Geralt’s hand and twirls around so that he’s behind him and can, quite literally, shove him into the bedroom. Soon enough Geralt is being told to sit down and so he does, unable to deny his songbird anything. He watches as Jaskier continues moving around until there’s a ridiculously giant cosmetics bag in Jaskier’s arms.
“Really, what is it -” Geralt makes another attempt at the question, but Jaskier, entirely undeterred, plops down next to him and shushes him gently.
“Shush. Let me work.”
And work he does - which in this case means various powders and pencils and brushes passing through his fingers in a flurry of movement. Geralt can’t be sure what it is that’s being applied to his face and if it was anyone else, that thought would’ve made him incredibly uncomfortable. This, though, Jaskier’s giddiness, it’s contagious and Geralt can’t help, but relax under his attention.
Fortunately for Jaskier, it’s not at all difficult for Geralt to remain silent. Despite the lingering confusion, he doesn’t dare to question his lark - and that’s certainly made easier when the sight in front of him is so endearing. The way Jaskier grins, how he pauses just to scrutinize Geralt’s face. How he scrunches up his nose and sticks his tongue out as he focuses on keeping his hand steady to do Geralt’s eyeliner.
(At some point, Jaskier tells him to close his eye and Geralt does, but he still keeps the other one open, not wanting to miss even a second of it.)
Geralt doesn’t know how much time passes before Jaskier is done - though he’s fairly certain they’re very late by now, but he doesn’t have the heart to tell Jaskier that.
“Well, all done,” Jaskier hums as pulls away, smiling in that brightly fond way of his. “Now we’re ready to go, my dashing beloved.”
Geralt grunts an acknowledgement and then, with Jaskier still so close, he can’t stop himself from leaning in to press a kiss to his cheek. Before his lips can touch skin, though, Jaskier squirms away from him.
“No! No kissing,” he protests. “You’re going to rub off your lipstick if you do, dearheart, so kisses are banned for tonight.”
Right. Even with the unusual texture now coating his lips, it’s already slipped his mind that Jaskier had just slathered lipstick all over them. Geralt pouts and Jaskier gives him a warm smile and boops him on the nose.
“Don’t you look at me like that. It’s only for tonight, I’m sure you can survive. Come, now, see for yourself how pretty you are now.”
Geralt huffs at that - pretty, right. He certainly can’t be pretty when next to his lovely lark - though he doesn’t resist when Jaskier tugs him towards a mirror.
He doesn’t know what to really expect from his own reflection. Other than occasional eyeliner, Jaskier has never put much make up on him before (no one has, in fact). When he’s finally faced with a mirror, Geralt blinks owlishly, as though not quite recognizing himself. There’s blush on his cheeks, blue on his eyelids, dark red on his lips. He is...
“Gorgeous,” Jaskier breathes out. He’s hanging off Geralt’s arm still, chin rested on his shoulder as he too looks at the reflection.
While Geralt would not usually describe himself as such, this time he finds that he can’t really argue. With a slight smile on his face, he hums his agreement then turns towards Jaskier. Before his songbird has the time to realize what he’s doing, he plants a kiss to his cheek, leaving a deep dark smudge of lipstick on the skin there. Jaskier squeals loudly, tries to wiggle away, but there’s still bright laughter dancing across his lips and his entire face even as he does.
(And Geralt falls in love just a little more.)

I would really like to read one (1) geraskier fic in which someone doesn't have to spell out Geralt's own feelings to him or urge him to make a move on/ apologize to Jaskier, but that instead he realizes his feelings and decides to make a move himself, despite the fear of unrequited feelings and despite being terrified of being vulnerable. Just one.
