hello my sillies!! since there was a bit of interest in more ab the nonsense that is my take on godswap mianite AU i went and dug up some of the brainrot I wrote last year but never shared outside of a private discord server + new stuff that I've recently came up with :D Enjoy! ❤️
- Jordan was born to parents who are priests of Mianite and raised in the temple- and ultimately was meant to be Mia's champion, and was trained as such for the majority of his life. However, being around mianite for most of his life made him cynical of the god and his principles, and went he got older, he left to seek out the god's brother, pledging himself to Dianite and wanting to bring about chaos. Amused and flattered by the man's near blind loyalty, Dia makes Jordan his champion
- His primary weapon is a firework crossbow gifted to him by Dianite himself (has piercing 8, mending, quick charge and unbreaking V (and flame on it, for use with arrows)) Plays off the sparkly and the fact that this man is a goddamn amazing sharpshooter no matter what universe he's in
- Mianite instead finds his champion in Tom Syndicate, the formerly deceased son of lighthouse keepers in the realm- and is brought back to life by the god (Mia never explains why specifically Tom was chosen, is described to people as just a "godly omnipotence" kinda thing)
- Shortly after Jordan, Tom, and the priests (aka FyreUK, with Wag and Matt under Dia, K.Tom under Mia) arrive and start making a mess of the realm with their shenanigans, a pirate ship captained by a 4th priest named BruteAlmighty "Phil" and two people- a parrot shapeshifter by the name of Sonja OmgitsVoidparrot and Tucker Jeriicho (normal human... allegedly)
- Sonja and Tucker both grew up in Ianarea, and with Phil's arrival from the End, have been searching across the realm for their missing goddess, and their messages led them to the Spawn Island (which I wish was canonically named istg) where supposedly a ruins containing information is hiding (Jordan and Tom both claim they know where this is. they dont)
- When Sonja was younger she was named Ianite's champion at a ceremony in Ianarea and was gifted her shapeshifting abilities as a way to hide from forces of evil and get into places more secretly
- Idk how canonically Nadeshot/The Modesteps enter the realm in character but basically at some point a flying ship appears and from it drops Captain Engine Failure and Skipper Coppereyes, more Dianitees (probably there to mess with Jordan) because Dianite having the most members is hilarious to me
(I got an ask about EF so I'll elaborate on her dynamic with everyone in a separate post >:] But bottom line put two chaos makers and an explosives enthusiast (Copper) in the same room it never ends well xD)
- I'm still thinking on this but with FyreUK, their priestlyness was given to them as a group due to the presence of the shadows from the get-go. When the Darkness began encroaching, the gods all sought out their respective priests and gifted them with powers to protect their respective domains (Dianite took in two- one to look over his temple in the nether, one to keep in the overworld because. chaos agenda- that one's Wag) and guide their champions when they found them
- Wag takes Dec's place by this logic i guess, he lives by the nether portal and will be anyone's personal tour guide because he likes doin it. and yes he absolutely uses any excuse to mess with people to mess with people he can be a menace a lot if he wants to
- Also Dec is a Wizard, I haven't developed him yet (he also has no design dont worry about it) but yes. Mans took on Athar himself he's just built different
- Syndisparklez and Foxxsize agenda always love me a good enemies to friends to lovers kinda shit. most of it is Capsize/EF flirting horribly with Sonja (and her not sure how to reciprocate but wants to) and Tom and Jordan with their usual "i fucking hate you i wish you were dead (read: i want to kiss you so bad)"

FAQ:
What is MCYTBLR AU Fest? MCYTBLR AU Fest is a reverse minibang-type event where writers and artists come together to create fanworks centred on MCYT and set in an alternate universe from canon.
How does it work? Artists will have a month to complete an art piece. After a month, once the art is complete, they will submit the art, with information about server, characters, relationships, and any warnings they are opting into, which will be posted anonymously for writers to view and claim, first-come-first-serve. Teams are assigned by mods, and then writers will have two months of creation time to make a pice inspired by the work (minimum 5k words).
What type of MCYT is included? We welcome creations based on any SMP, whether or not they have a canon tag on Ao3. Mianite, DSMP, QSMP, Hermitcraft, 3rd Life, Lifesteal, Witchcraft SMP— it’s all welcome.
Can I join if my Art is a Game/Web Weave? We welcome all types of art— web weave, game, traditional art, original songs, videos, etc. While the list is not exhaustive, we have outlined some of the baseline expectations for an art piece below.
What are the requirements for art? It is difficult to define precise expectations for art pieces, especially given the broad realm of things that could count as art. We are primarily looking for art that is complete to a level that you would normally post as "finished", ready to inspire a fic piece of 5k or more, containing an audio or visual component beyond the confines of the written word, that does not take more than an hour to consume. While you will have the opportunity to include your understanding of the world in things such as if the relationships depicted are romantic or not, the art piece must stand alone without explanatory text or extra worldbuilding.
The defined requirements for different forms of art are:
Digital or Traditional art: one piece, completed to whatever you would normally post as "finished", ready to inspire a fanfic.
Web Weaves: a web weave of at least ten elements, original or properly credited.
Video/animatic: a video at least 30 seconds long.
Other Art Form: other art forms such as fan games or original songs would fall under this category. If you wanted to sign up with an Other art form, you need to contact the mod team and work out what minimum expectations would be for your art.
Is shipping allowed? Yes. Because there is no broad fandom-wide consensus about how Creator boundaries are to be enforced in specific cases (whether it's okay to write beeduo as /r or /p is an obvious one, or whether it’s permitted to ship Joel Smallishbeans) or between specific fandoms (Lifesteal approach to shipping and boundaries is different from HBG is different from DSMP), the mods will not be policing any specific understanding of boundaries across the event. The event's motivating ethos is Don't Like Don't Read, in that artists will be able to specify for themselves if a given relationship is to be interpreted as romantic or platonic, and writers will choose to opt into that, and NSFW will have to be specifically opted into on both sides.
Is NSFW allowed? Yes. NSFW works are allowed, but must be opted into, both in terms of viewing art and in terms of creating fic. No one under 18 is permitted to opt into NSFW and attempts to do so will be grounds for a ban from this event and anywhere else the mod team touches. For the comfort of the greatest number of participants, and to conform with Tumblr TOS, anything with the tags Underage or Incest will not be permitted to be part of the event.
Are major archive warnings (noncon/graphic depictions of violence/MCD) allowed? Aside from the content rules governing NSFW (no underage or incest, for the comfort of the greatest number of participants), major archive warnings are allowed. Depictions of real life horrors such as genocide and slavery are not-uncommon motifs in MCYT fics, and the mod team is not interested in legislating which types of horrors, griefs or abuses are inherently worse than others and are therefore off-limits. Because holding writing to a quality standard or saying only survivors can write atrocities is unworkable from a moderation standpoint, the three mentioned major archive warnings (MCD, Graphic Depictions of Violence, Noncon), are permitted to be included.
However, Major Archive Warnings must be explicitly opted into by the artist, and writers are free to not include Major Archive Warnings that their artist has permitted. Delivering un-asked for major archive warnings is grounds for a ban from this event. The mod team reserves the right to warn other mod teams on both the MCYT and Multi-fandom side about your bad behaviour.
What kind of an information will I provide as an Artist? How long or detailed? Artists will be able to specify
the server their art takes place on
the characters in the work
whether the relationships in the work are romantic, platonic, or could be interpreted either way
if they are okay with NSFW work
what age group of people they are okay working with
the type of AU it is
any content warnings present in the work already (i.e. gore, eyestrain, child death)
if the work is nsfw
any major archive warnings they are okay with happening in the story
common fandom themes and/or triggering content that they are okay with happening in the story.
A DNW
What sort of fandom themes will I specify? While this will not be an exhaustive list of every possible triggering concept, the mods want artists to be able to specify if they are okay with dynamics that circulate in the fandom that may be triggering or people simply may have strong opinions on, and for writers to be able to sort by that. Some of the themes include domestic abuse, alcoholism, family dynamics, pregnancy, dubcon, torture, body horror, dehumanization, child death, non-consensual touching, drugging, etc.
What is a DNW?
Artists will have the opportunity to fill out a DNW, which stands for Do Not Want. This is anything that has the potential to ruin a fic for you, and is where you opt out of content that would trigger, squick, or just render the gift unreadable for you. DNWs must be phrased politely, (so no "No foster aus because they suck and you suck if you like them"), and they must be reasonable, (so no "no blood/injury" if the art depicted shows injury, and no attempting to box someone into a specific gift beyond what is depicted in the art, so no "dnw anything that isn't a modern au where scar is a theatre teacher and grian is a biology teacher and they live in a city named hermitopia and grian has a situationship with mumbo and scarian has a rivalry at a coffee shop for the half-price muffins and jellie has psychic powers she's manipulating the muffin market with" if that is not clear from the art), and they must be specific and clear, (so no “no triggering content"), but they can be as petty (disliking 1st person) or as broad-reaching (no modern aus, no specific ships not depicted, no crossovers with specific servers or fics) as you like. Deliberately breaking someone's DNW is grounds for a ban from the exchange.
Is Dark/Violent content allowed? As long as it is something that the artist has not opted out of, yes. For many of us, the source material that originally drew us to the fandom includes major character death, torture, murder-for-hire, death games, public executions, child death and more. The fanfiction that arose from the source material follows in that trend. We will allow dark content to be part of the event, but it must be tagged for.
We also ask that participants use best judgement in delivering commonly triggering topics un-asked for. We reserve the right to ban people at mod's discretion for delivering unrequested triggering content, under the "do not be an asshole" rule.
Moreover, if your fic is rated E for any reason, (including violence or gore) your entire team must be 18+.
How can I get involved? You can participate in this event as a:
Author
Artist
Pinch Hitter
Beta Reader
You can even sign up for multiple roles, as long as you’re very sure you can make your deadlines!
What is a Pinch Hitter? A pinch hitter is a person who saves the day and steps in when the original creator is unable to deliver their work for whatever reason, making a new work on an accelerated timeline. You must reach the minimum word count of 5k. .
When do I have to join the discord? You have the option to join the dicord and hang out as soon as creation starts on May 4, and if you are an artist, you must join before sign-ups close on May 31. If you are a writer, you must join the discord before claims begin on June 1st. If you are a Beta Reader, we'd ask that you join before claims begin on June 9th.
How does team assignment/claims work? We will release a document with all the art pieces linked in it, and 24 hours afterwards we will release a sign-up form. Writers will be expected to list out out a top-five of artists they want to work with, and mods will match writers with art on a first-come-first-served basis.
How does Beta Reader assignment work? Shortly after writer sign-ups end, writers who wish to sign up for Beta Readers will be able to do so. In a similar way to how writers claimed art, beta readers will be given a list of summaries and then, 24 hours later, will be able to submit a short list of fics they want to help work on. Beta readers will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
What happens if there are more artists than authors, or more authors than artists? If there are more writers, some artists will be assigned multiple writers. If there are more artists, we will put in place a question where writers can specify that they’d be willing to make multiple pieces, and a (hopefully small) number of writers would be assigned multiple teams.
What if all the artists I list have already been assigned? If every artist you wish to opt into has already been assigned, mods will contact you and ask if you wish to be matched to people who have not yet been claimed. You will then be able to choose if you wish to claim other teams, or wait and hope that there will be more writers than artists, and multiple writers on a team will be opened up. If that happens, you can re-submit your list and be assigned as a writer to one of your original artists.
I’m in [insert time zone here]. What if I’m not awake when claims open? There will be a spot to input your time zone in the discord. Mods will try to open the claims at a time that works for as many writers as possible. The art pieces will also be available for 24 hours before claims so that everyone can view them and pick out the ones that are the most interesting to them. We will aim for claims to open between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. for as many writers as possible across all time zones. If claims fall outside that zone for you, you’ll be able to contact a mod and we’ll work out an alternative method for claims for you.
I don’t know what time zone I’m in? Go to timeanddate.com and enter the nearest major city, and it will tell you your current time zone.
What’s a check-in and how do they work? Check-ins are there to make sure everyone is on track to finish their piece in time, and to communicate any issues with the mods! If you know that you won’t be able to check in on a specific date (lack of internet, etc), please contact the mods in advance.
How long should my fic be? The minimum word count is 5,000 words! There is no maximum word count, but we ask you to be mindful of how much you can actually create in these two months.
If I wrote a multi-chapter work, do I have to have it all posted by the end of Posting Period? You must post your work in its entirety by the end of the two-week posting period.
What does AU mean in this context? AU stands for Alternate Universe and in this case means anything that would make the work not able to be tagged as canon compliant. Alternate endings, role reversals, complete setting or plot swaps, and crossovers all count. As this is a fest specifically to celebrate AUs, we ask that the AU be a significant and celebrated part of the work, not something that could be skipped if you aren’t paying attention.
Can I create two fics for my artist? Absolutely! There is no maximum for number of fics you want to create, but again, be mindful of not biting off more than you can chew two months of creation time.
Can I sign up with two pieces of art? You are welcome to sign up as part of the fest with multiple art pieces. However, if you do so, we will ask that you prioritize which art piece you want to be matched on first, and you will only receive a match to your secondary art piece after everyone else has an writer. We’re going to proritize every particpant getting a team before we prioritize every art piece getting a team.
Can I sign up with a multi-piece art piece? If you want to sign up with a web weave that features multiple panels, a long video, a long comic, a series of connected art pieces, a song cycle, or any other more complex/more ornate work, you are welcome to. We just ask that you make sure you can complete your art piece during the month of artist creation time, and keep in mind that if your piece is sufficiently complex, that might restrict the writers who are able to sign up for your piece. But if you think you can pull it off, then go for it.
Can I sign up with a writing buddy— as part of a collab team? You are welcome to sign up as a collaborative team, either an art team or a writing team! We ask that you make sure you work together well, and when you sign up for an team, you must declare that you’re a duo, so people know that they’ll be getting multiple team members and not one.
Can I submit an art piece that is part of a larger AU? All art pieces must stand alone, so you can't have it that your writer has to consider other art pieces to make a work. The art must also be made specifically for the event. We ask that you not submit an art piece that was made prior to the event, or one that is part of an au you've posted about so often that it will effectively de-anon you. Brainstorming or sketching early is fine.
Once my art piece is done, when can I post it? Art and fic should be posted together, during the Posting Period at the beginning of August. Once you have your art done, you'll have to hold onto it for another two months, while your writer is working.
What if I need to drop out? It is your responsibility to communicate with us if you need to drop out of the event for any reason, and we do need that communication. We know that life is no respecter of fic and art deadlines, so no hard feelings if something happens. However, we would hate for any artist to end up having no fic for their art, so please think about this if you are thinking of dropping out close to reveals. Dropping out after the last check-in without informing the mods will result in not being permitted to take part in further events run by this mod team.
I have a question not answered here? Send us an ask on tumblr, contact @antimony-medusa on tumblr or discord!

A Mianite Superpower AU I've been cooking up where the gang is split between heroes and villains. This little explanation focuses on the “villains” because I came up with the Au based around them so I'm more sure of their backstories. (More of the AU under the read more because as it turns out, I had a lot to say. This focuses on Tom, Sonja, Capsize, and Redbeard).
The universe is one where some people are just born with superpowers. Their strength grows with time, and generally it's accepted that a person with powers will have fully developed them by teenhood. Hence the heroes association has a required test for children to find those with major powers so they can be properly trained to become superheroes.
The test is controversial, and has only been growing more so in recent years. Especially as being caught ‘cheating’ the test has become an arrest-able offence. From this development a small group of villains has been forming from those caught ‘cheating’.
Tom
Powers: Creation and manipulation of explosions, creation and manipulation of fire, mild healing factor, will come back to life after dying
When he had taken the test, Tom only had minor powers. He could create tiny explosions the size of firecrackers and manipulate the flame of a lighter, but his powers weren't anything to write home about and certainly not superhero worthy. The superheroes association agreed, marking him as having minor powers and letting him remain to live his life rather than training him. It seemed that Tom was destined to live a normal life.
Then Tom died. He was hit by a car and died on the scene. Technically nothing out of the ordinary. Except, a day later, Tom woke up.
He woke up confused as hell in a hospital morgue with no idea as to how he was currently alive. What should have been a miracle was quite tainted by him getting arrested mere hours later for “hiding superpowers”. No matter how much he tried to explain that he had no idea had he come back to life, they didn't listen to him. Only made worse by the powers he had already being amplified to the point that he's pretty sure he could blow up the building he was being kept in. He didn't go that far, but he did end up breaking through a good number of walls to escape custody as, for reasons as unknown to him as the rest of his newly upgraded powers, the power-restrictor that was put on him didn't seem to work.
That night Tom was declared a super villain. And if they were going to call him a villain, Tom was going to be the biggest thorn in their side they could possibly imagine. After all, who can cause more trouble than a villain who can't die?
Sonja
Powers: The ability to comprehend all written language, clairvoyance via ink and paper, shape-shifting
Sonja's original power of language comprehension was never going to be the sort of thing that got her put on active hero duty, but it was deemed useful enough to get her recruited for behind the scenes work. She liked it well enough, even if her job seemed to mostly be being told to dispose of anything actually interesting. But it wasn't a hard job, she got training, and above average accommodation, and she was well liked by pretty much everyone in the building.
Her life probably could've just continued this way, working her way up behind the scenes until she became irreplaceable. But one day, Sonja became intrigued by one of the documents she'd be given to investigate. A set of instructions for an apparent ritual written by a newly captured villain. Now those were, at least in her line of work, dime a dozen, but the exact nature of this one was something she couldn't ignore. A ritual for an individual to be gifted new powers. And that was just too interesting for her to either destroy or hand over the document to be sat in an archive for the rest of time. So she tested it on herself.
She had no idea if it would work or how she would get to grips with a brand new power, so she set it up to get herself the ability to gather information via ink and paper. It seemed similar enough to her current power to quickly get to grips with and useful to the heroes association since it would be great for low stakes intel gathering. And it worked. She did the ritual and suddenly just spilling ink on paper could produce maps or lists of information. She was so excited to present the ritual to the higher ups, because she was sure it could help the association.
Sonja was arrested. Officially she was arrested for hiding her powers, but she knew it was really because she did something she didn't like. Her arrest was argued against by a number of heroes and association staff alike. She had always been well-liked, a bullshit arrest wasn't going to change that, but none of their arguments stopped her from being sent towards the same facility that held actual supervillains. What actually stopped her from being locked up was Tom causing the transport truck to crash. He offered her freedom, and if she was going to be deemed a traitor anyway she might as well take the road where she isn't imprisoned.
Since joining Tom, she's managed to gather the resources to perform the ritual again, giving herself the ability to shape-shift. She's also used her clairvoyance to figure out what precisely caused Tom's revival and sudden power spike. An odd heart-shaped artifact apparently sewn into his corpse. Though her powers won't say exactly what it it or who put it inside Tom, leaving them a goal to investigate.
Capsize & Redbeard
Powers: The ability to transfer their powers between each other, water manipulation (Capsize), short distance teleport of themself and others (Capsize), air manipulation (Redbeard), minor charmed speech (Redbeard)
Coming from a small coastal town, Capsize and Redbeard were very used to the idea that their powers meant that one day they would be taken away to never return. The only time heroes ever showed up was when a villain threatened to rise sea levels and honestly even that didn't make them show up sometimes. The only time they saw anything of the heroes association was once a year when a single clerk would come to administrator the power test to the of age kids. Not liking the idea of being forced away from their home, Capsize and Redbeard decided to trick the test.
With the clerk only able to administrator the test to one kid at a time, they knew that they just needed to transfer all their powers into whoever wasn't being tested and hope that they didn't get caught. By some miracle, they didn't. There was some brief questioning as to what exactly their transference power did when they didn't have powers, but seeing that nothing could be proved, they were marked down as having a minor power and left to their own devices. Given the town's less than stellar opinion towards the heroes association and the twins doing their best to help around town, they were more than happy to keep the secret.
Years passed, the two growing up with being able to live their lives and learning their powers at their own pace. As long as they hid their powers one day a year, they could continue to do so. But eventually everyone's luck runs out. It wasn't as if Redbeard wasn't aware of the day, but that thought went out of his mind when he saw a workman falling from some scaffolding. He acted on impulse, slowing the man's fall. Unfortunately the heroes association clerk was walking by and quickly Red was arrested for having hidden powers. He just about managed to transfer his powers to Capsize before the power-restricting handcuffs were put on him, but now the heroes association was aware of his powers, the power transference made sense.
Heroes were summoned to the town for the first in over a decade as a Capsize was marked as a wanted criminal and the mood of the town threatened to turn riotous. The news managed to also catch Tom and Sonja's attention who headed to find Capsize with Sonja's powers, a little surprised to find she hadn't yet left town. They found her already being confronted by a hero who was attempting to talk her into surrendering. Said hero is extremely distracted by two supervillains turning up and turns his attention towards them only to be knocked out by Capsize who frankly isn't in the mood for the heroes associations bullshit. She isn't stupid. She knows that the only thing waiting for her and Redbeard from them is prison. So she asks Tom and Sonja if they'll help her break out Redbeard. Of course, the two agree.
Capsize and Redbeard end up fleeing their home town being officially declared super villains as they join Tom and Sonja. The group counts the whole thing as a victory as the heroes association's reputation has never been lower in Capsize and Redbeard's home And, for their long term goals, Capsize and Redbeard recognise the idea of a heart shaped relic from an old story about the original three heroes giving them at least some kind of a new lead to look into.

thinking abt mianite godswapped au still anyways some thoughts abt mianite priests + champions in general + in au context. i havent thought 2 hard abt how this world works. anyways
champions / priests of the gods are chosen. they dont really get much of a choice in the matter they just start getting random visions and powers and etc and they have to deal w it
usually the priests are chosen as children / teenagers, champions tend to be older. (champions are expected to fight for the god in question). regardless, you still have people doing anything in their power to have their child chosen by their god. obviously
tucker was THOUGHT to be the one chosen to be ianites champion. everyone expected him to be chosen - kid who was raised for it. ianite picked sonja instead to everyone in their town's surprise. phil was not a surprise 2 anyone
mianite brought tom (synhd) back to life for ?????? no one knows why exactly but tom (synhd) thinks its sooo funny that mianite picked himas his champion and tom (wizard) as his priest. never fails to make him start laughing
dianite picking 2 (two) kids as 2 become priests WAS a surprise. jordan as his champion was NOT he blatantly favored jordan's family anyways. jordan comes from a line of previous champions or something. idk

hey hold on i could totally make a mianite high school au
jordan:
junior
average grades, not really looking at any college path but understands mechanics well enough
on the football team
cheerful and friendly but also somewhat quiet- picks up friends pretty quickly but is also often seen alone. chill with that.
bystander in most fights, never instigates them, very rarely ever physically punches back which makes him a common target. stands up for freshmen
once got into detention for arguing with a teacher about failing someone who didn't show up to class a lot because of home problems or something. was annoyed about it for the rest of his school experience
tucker:
sophmore
almost but not quite failing
loudmouthed. gets into a lot of fights, only picks about a quarter of them
gets his ass kicked in a lot of said fights but is fast and good on his feet
tight with jordan because he took a few punches with him then gave him a bag of m&ms afterwards before he had to run to class
owns the best pokemon deck in the school
tom:
sophmore
gives zero shits about his grades and doesn't even show up to class half the time
practically lives in detention and always sits next to nade and the modesteps
sets shit on fire, starts a lot of fights, etc.
the two days jordan was in detention, tom recognized him as a general rule follower and asked him how the hell he ended up there. jordan explained, tom basically went "yeah the teachers are dicks. this place is boring wanna go for a round of rock paper scissors i'll bet you this bag of chips" and they're not exactly best friends but they're also chill
sonja:
senior
top of her classes
not a good fighter but has a good enough reputation to stay out of trouble most of the time
sweet talks a lot of the teachers into letting tucker have extensions on his assignments then bullies him into finishing it
helps jordan with his english homework
once famously responded to someone asking her how a girl like her ended up dating a guy like Tucker with "suck my dick, Tiffany"
on the volleyball team

OKAY IVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT IT MORE. since i did not watch The Dog's stream i will b referencing this post for most of my rambling.
so like. the first thing that sticks out to me is the canonization of the dream smp, obviously, but also empires. and this is for two reasons: both of these canons already have multiple realities/universes canonized within them. for the dream smp, we have c!cpk, who's a canonical dimension hopper; and for empires, we have shrub, who's backstory consists of her dimension-hopping onto the lands of s1 after her homeland was razed. cpk isn't what i'm gonna really focus on here, because to my knowledge, we don't really know a lot about his backstory (at least, not that i can find on the wiki. it doesn't even mention his dimension hopping, but considering its the dream smp wiki, i'm not surprised). i wanna focus on shrub.
so, shrub's backstory has her world being razed due to aeor banishing cohnal and exor's spirit; however, we also know that exor and aeor were gods in the lands of the empires smp. JUST like mianite, gods seem to exist in multiple (all?) realities, which is a SUPER interesting concept!! i'm using it, combined with mianite, to solidify this as more of a fact than a theory, going by the giga-verse concept. it also solidifies alternate realities existing in general, with c!pk possibly solidifying other realities in general (as in, not mirrors/similar to ours, but completely different realities with completely different people).
it also brings up an interesting possibility of, despite all existing within the same universe, each planet/solar system possibly being made by a different god. it'd explain how the gods were all still real, but how XD was able to make the dream smp and mianite was able to make, well, mianite. there's not "one" true creator, resposible for all of creation and the universe, but multiple ones designated to their own segments of reality.
REALLY focusing in on mianite though, i bring up my all-time favorite piece of lore: our universe is canon to their reality as another alternate dimension. by extension, that means our universe is canon to the dream smp, hermitcraft, empires, everything. and not in the sense that chat is canon, or twitter is canon, our actual reality. where their realities are just stories spun by creators behind a stream, broadcasted to hundreds of thousands around the world for entertainment. cc!ranboo is canon to the mcyt giga-verse, although in a different reality. that's not an au (not in the typical au sense, at the least), that's canon baby!!
i have so many more thoughts about the concept of death and the afterlife and whether it's the same throughout all planets/solar systems/galaxies, the implications of reincarnation and other lives, but that's. for another time. i have brainrotted enough here i think.

Isn't Sonja a little old to be just now learning waterbending?
nah
she has the capability to bend the elements already, it's why she knows she's the avatar, she just can't figure out how to do it when she needs to, and how she needs to

Video
another WIP for the MCYT worm AU trailer! I’ve posted a couple of the shots already, but since it’s slow going i wanted to post another snippet, this time all edited together! I’ll be posting captain sparklez and puffy’s designs once i finish them up some cute ref sheets!
Info for each shot under the cut, and here’s the AU masterpost!
Shot 1: Tommy and Tubbo (Heroes)
Tubbo is a tinker with a drone specialization, going by the name of Network while in costume! His costume is slightly more reasonable than tommy’s, serving to Actually Hide his Face
Tommy, meanwhile, is a cape who automatically empowers capes he cares about within a certain range. This carries over between his civilian and cape identities, and he doesn’t need to know the actual identity of a cape to power them up so long as he cares about them, even if only in their civilian ID. This makes things complicated given Wilbur is a villain
Shot 2: Wilbur, Fundy, and Niki (Villains, L’Manberg Team)
Wilbur with his Spicy L’manberg outfit! Honestly his villain costume is the best at hiding his identity, but it kind of sucks at making him recognizable to people who don’t know the AU LOL.
Fundy, as a changer, doesn’t need a super complex costume! His mask and funky collar??breastplate thing grow with him as he changes, and he can get Pretty Big. The eyes behind him are a hint to his Giant Eldritch Fox form!
Niki, my beloved, mostly hides her identity via dying her hair in costume. she hasn’t been recognized yet, so i guess it works!
Shot 3: Philza and Technoblade (Rogues, Cauldron Escapees)
Technoblade in his full tinker outfit! Most tinkers have a specific specialty, like tubbo and his drones, but technoblade actually doesn’t have anything specific! Instead, chat decides what he can build at any specific moment, and that is the ONLY thing he can build. You can imagine the kind of chaos that comes from this.
Philza doesn’t have a full costume, mostly because he doesn’t consider himself a cape. His powers came from a vial, and mostly express themselves in his wings and a mild sense of air currents allowing him a low thinker power.
Shot 4: Captain Puffy, Foolish, and Captain Sparklez (Heroes)
Puffy has the ability to generate forcefields, and uses them to create horns for herself alongside shields for her companions! She’s a member of the local Protectorate (think heroes sponsored by the government), and has literally adopted every hero younger than her in the department (foolish, cuptoast, and eventually tommy and tubbo)
Captain Sparklez has the ability to summon a variety of weapons based off of his weapons in his Mianite series! The one he has here is the Sword of Light, but he also has access to the sword of balance and the sword of the disgraced wizard, amongst others!
Foolish is a young cape with a powerful changer/breaker ability! Basically he has the power to transform into an invincible giant, the larger the more untouchable. He can limit his size for fighting in tight quarters, but this limits his invincibility proportionally. His largest size is his canonical size in the Dream SMP, 23 feet!

FAQ:
What is MCYTBLR AU Fest? MCYTBLR AU Fest is a minibang-type event where writers and artists come together to create fanworks centred on MCYT and set in an alternate universe from canon.
How does it work? Writers will have a month to start work on a draft. After a month, at the half-way mark of their draft, they create a short summary/synopsis of their fic, which is posted anonymously for artists to view and claim. Teams are assigned by mods, and then teams will then have another month of creation time. Artists will create art based on the story they chose, and writers will finish their fic (minimum 5k words).
What type of MCYT is included? We welcome creations based on any SMP, whether or not they have a canon tag on Ao3. Mianite, DSMP, Hermitcraft, 3rd Life, Lifesteal, Witchcraft SMP— it's all welcome.
Can I join if my Art is a Playlist/Web Weave? You can particpate as an artist if your art is:
Digital/Traditional Art
Podfic
Playlist
Web Weave
What are the requirements for art? The requirements for different forms of art are:
Digital or Traditional art: a minimum of one piece, finished, inspired by the author's work.
Podfic: a podfic of the author's work, edited to whatever a baseline level of editing is for you.
Playlists: a minimum of one playlist inspired by the author's work per 5k, rounding up, to a limit of three required playlists. Playlists must be a minimum of an hour each.
Web Weaves: a minimum of one web weave inspired by the author's work per 5 k, rounding up, to a limit of two required web weaves, with at least ten elements each.
Other Art Form: other art forms such as fan games, original songs, would fall under this category. If you wanted to sign up with an Other art form, you need to contact the mod team and work out what minimum expectations would be for your art.
If I want to make more web weaves, can I? You can make as many pieces of art as you wish, the limit is just on what is required/expected by the mod team. For example, if your writer wrote a 10k work, you would be required to make two web weaves– but you could do as many as you want. If your writer wrote a 50k work, you would still only be required to make two web weaves, but you can do as many as you want.
Is anything required from me if I'm working with a particular type of artist? In general the requirement is just to be collaborative and communicative with your artist, but the one exception is if you are working with a podficcer. A podficcer can't start work until your work is complete (including editing), so to make sure they actually have time to record, anyone working with a podficcer will be required to finish a week early (so your writing completion deadline would be to finish by the 10th of July, instead of the 17th). In addition, podficcers will be generally expected to post near the end of posting week, so that they have two weeks to do the recording.
I heard there was web weaves, can I sign up for web weaves only? To increase matching opportunities, as a creator you must opt in to at least two types of art.
Is shipping allowed? Yes. For the comfort of the greatest number of participants, we ask that participants make a good-faith effort to ensure that any shipping is boundary-respecting, but because there is no broad fandom-wide consensus about how that is defined in specific cases (whether it's okay to write beeduo as /r or /p is an obvious case) or between specific fandoms (lifesteal approach to shipping is different from HBG is different from DSMP), the mods will not be policing any specific understanding of boundaries across the event. The event will operate on Don't Like Don't Read, in that everyone will have the chance to pick for themself if they are comfortable working with any specific ship, romantic or platonic, and it will not be permitted to change the nature of a relationship to /r after teams are assigned.
Is NSFW allowed? Yes, nsfw is permitted as long as it respects creator boundaries. When pitching a work, it must be clearly stated that the work contains NSFW content. To sign up to create an NSFW work everyone on the team must be 18+, and adding NSFW to a work after teams have been assigned is not permitted, even if everyone on the team is 18+. For the comfort of the greatest number of people in the exchange and the mod team, nothing that would warrant the tags Underage, Rape/Noncon, Dubcon, or Incest would be permitted.
If noncon isn't permitted, is non-consentual touching (platonic) allowed? As technically a punch in the face counts as non-consensual touching, and pvp is a classic part of most MCYT canons, we find banning all nonconsensual contact to be unnecessarily restrictive. As long as nonconsensual contact is not sexual in nature, it is permitted, however, it must be tagged for adequately along with any other potentially triggering content.
Do you allow dark or violent content? Yes. The lore of many mcyt servers includes death games, abuse, cannibalism, murder-for-hire, and other dark or violent themes. However, all potentially triggering content must be tagged for and those tags must be part of the sign-up, so collaboraters can make an informed choice to get infolved or not. Moreover, if your fic is rated E for any reason (including violence or gore), your team must be 18+.
How can I get involved? You can participate in this event as a:
Author
Artist
Pinch Hitter (Artist)
Pinch Hitter (Writer)
Beta Reader
You can even sign up for multiple roles, as long as you're very sure you can make your deadlines!
What is a Pinch Hitter? A pinch hitter is a person who saves the day and steps in when the original creator is unable to deliver their work for whatever reason, making a new work on an accelerated timeline. In case of pinch hitting a fanfic, you will will be asked to either write using the original writer's outline, or pitch a new story for the artist to pick among. If you are an artist, you will step in to make a new piece of art for a writer whose original artist dropped out.
Can I participate as a beta reader? Yes! Matching with a Beta Reader will be optional, but creators will have the opportunity to sign up to have a Beta Reader join their team for brainstorming, accountability, spellcheck, editing, or whatever else they need. Matching beta readers will be first come first serve.
What kind of a summary will I provide as a writer? How long or detailed? We ask that you keep your summary to two paragraphs or shorter, about as long as the AO3 Summary + Author's Note boxes. When you write out this summary, you should be about halfway through your draft, so you will have a general sense of how the story goes. In addition to a description of your fic, we'll ask that you list out the Server it takes place on, what type of AU it is, any ships (romantic or platonic), the expected word count, what age group of people you are okay working with, and any trigger tags that you expect to take place in the story.
When do I have to join the discord? You have the option to join the dicord and hang out as soon as creation starts on May 13, and if you are signing up either as a Beta Reader or wanting to be matched with a Beta Reader, you need to join the discord before signups close on May 15. If you don't need a beta reader or you already have someone you normally work with, you only have to join the discord before author sign ups close for artist matching, which is June 15.
Why do authors have to be halfway through their draft to sign up? How are you checking this? This is both to decrease the number of people who drop out halfway through, and to make sure that the artist definitely has something to work with. If you write your entire fic in the weekend before the posting deadline, that means the artist has a matter of days or hours for them to do their work, which isn't fair. Writers will be expected to submit a google doc with their half-draft in it at sign-up, for mods to verify word count.
How does team assignment work? We will release a document with all the summaries in it, and shortly afterwards we will release a sign-up form. Artists will be expected to list out out a top-five of stories they want to work with, and mods will match artists with stories on a first-come-first-served basis.
What happens if there are more artists than authors, or more authors than artists? If there are more artists, some fics will be assigned multiple artists. If there are more authors, we will put in place a question where artists can specify that they'd be willing to make multiple pieces, and a (hopefully small) number of artists would be assigned multiple teams.
What if all the fics I list have already been assigned? If artists outnumber authors, mods will set your list aside for later. Once every fic has one artist, we will assign you as a secondary artist to one of your chosen fics. If authors outnumber artists, you will need to submit another claim. While mods will update the form throughout the claiming period and remove fully claimed fics, there may be some delay with removing fics if we are unavailable.
I’m in [insert time zone here]. What if I’m not awake when claims open? There will be a spot to input your time zone in the discord. Mods will try to open the claims at a time that works for as many artists as possible. The fic summaries will also be available for 24 hours before claims so that everyone can read the summaries and pick out the ones that sound most interesting to them. We will aim for claims to open between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. for as many artists as possible across all time zones. If claims fall outside that zone for you, you'll be able to contact a mod and we'll work out an alternative method for claims for you.
I don't know what time zone I'm in? Go to timeanddate.com and enter the nearest major city, and it will tell you your current time zone.
What's a check-in and how do they work? Check-ins are there to make sure everyone is on track to finish their piece in time, and to communicate any issues with the mods! If you know that you won’t be able to check in on a specific date (lack of internet, etc), please contact the mods in advance.
How long should my fic be? The minimum word count is 5,000 words! There is no maximum word count, but we ask you to be mindful of how much you can actually create in these two months.
If I wrote a multi-chapter work, do I have to have it all posted by the end of Posting Week? You must complete your work by the end of posting week, but in the cases of longer works, you may want to stretch out posting. In cases where you want to extend posting, you will be able to send in your draft to be verified by the mods, and then post just 40% of the draft during posting week.
What does AU mean in this context? AU stands for Alternate Universe and in this case means anything that would make the work not able to be tagged as canon compliant. Alternate endings, role reversals, complete setting or plot swaps, and crossovers all count. As this is a fest specifically to celebrate AUs, we ask that the AU be a significant and celebrated part of the work, not something that could be skipped if you aren't paying attention.
Can I create two pieces of art? Absolutely! There is no maximum for number of pieces you want to create, but again, be mindful of not biting off more than you can chew in a month of creation time.
Can I sign up with two fics? You are welcome to sign up as part of the fest with multiple fics, especially given that the word count is reasonably achievable for many people. However, if you do so, we will ask that you prioritize which fic you want to be matched on first, and you will only receive a match to your secondary fic after everyone else has an artist. We're going to proritize every particpant getting a team before we prioritize every story getting a team.
Can I sign up with a writing buddy— as part of a collab team? You are welcome to sign up as a collaborative team! We ask that you make sure you work together well, and when you sign up for an artist, you must declare that you're a team, so people know that they'll be getting multiple writers and not one.
Can I submit a fic that is part of a larger story? All stories must stand alone, you can't have it so that your artist has to read other works to understand your existing work. The fic also must be written specifically for the event. We ask that you not submit a summary for a fic that was already written prior to the start of the event. Brainstorming or outlining starting early is fine.
What if I need to drop out? It is your responsibility to communicate with us if you need to drop out of the event for any reason, and we do need that communication. We know that life is no respecter of fic and art deadlines, so no hard feelings if something happens. However, we would hate for any writer to end up having no art for their fic, so please think about this if you are thinking of dropping out close to reveals. Likewise, it would suck if an artist put a lot of effort into creating art for a fic that ends up not being written, so authors, please inform us in advance if you must drop out or think you will not be able to complete your fic on time. Dropping out after the last check-in without informing the mods will result in not being permitted to take part in further events run by this mod team.
I have a question not answered here? Send us an ask on tumblr, contact @antimony-medusa on tumblr or discord!

Under the New Moon [Mianite Noir AU]
Relationships: Discussed Syndisparklez and Foxxsize
Characters: Sonja Firefoxx, Tucker Jericho, Tom Syndicate, Captain Capsize, Skipper Redbeard
For the past six months, a new body has been found in the city. Each killed in the gruesome sacrifice to Lord Dianite a fortnight after the victim disappeared off the streets without a trace. Not a link between the victims, or at least that’s the story the public have been told. In reality, the police force has long since come to the conclusion that the murders have been committed by Tom Syndicate, the cities’ most infamous mafia boss, and written off investigating rather than deal with the man with the city in his pocket. All expect for one detective.
Having stolen the case files, Detective Sonja Foxx is attempting to come up with any lead on the case as with the current pattern the next victim is due to disappear any day. However, even with the help of Private Detective Tucker Jericho, no clues are appearing, and she may need to cross the line she has desperately been trying to keep for herself if she wants to prevent another victim from suffering a terrible fate.

Mianite Magical Noir AU Tag
The darkening light as the sun set behind the horizon gave the already grim city an atmosphere that caused even the most relaxed soul to look over their shoulder at whoever was walking behind them. Such an action wouldn’t be questioned given the growing fears of the general population that had been slowly but surely mounting throughout the past few months. This had never been the safest city, what with the rampant crime and corrupt police force, but at the very least it was safe enough that the average citizen could shake off their fears of any of those terrible things affecting them. As long as they kept their head down and their nose clean, they could avoid ever getting tangled in the messy web of crime that ran the city and they could live their lives unconcerned. It had been the sort of fear that people could live with. However, a darker threat had begun to fester. People were disappearing, criminals and law-abiding civilians alike, the only connection being that each disappeared when walking through the streets at sunset. That and that each of their bodies had appeared weeks later in gruesome scenes that previously would’ve only appeared in the deepest parts of the criminal underworld for the worst of traitors.
Murders, of course, had never been unheard of in the city. In fact, they were worryingly common if you actually counted them all rather than writing off the disappearances and accidents that occurred to those that needed to be taught a lesson, however none so gruesome had ever infested the city like this. Ritual sacrifices were the best way to describe the scenes, and that was in fact how they were being described by any of those talking about them. Each victim was seemingly an offering to Lord Dianite. Typically, with a killer like this, one that targeted seemingly average civilians, one that the papers were nicknaming and turning into a bogeyman, the police force would be investigating despite their corrupt nature. However, in this case the nature of the scenes, and the only seeming connection that the victims had, had made them back off. It wasn’t public knowledge, of course, but the minimal investigations had revealed that, even if completely tangentially, each of the victims had some connection to The Syndicate. Of course, the same could be said of nearly everyone in the city, but Tom Syndicate was an infamous worshipper of Lord Dianite. Thus, the Chief of Police had decided that the man had surely just taken a religious turn, and that the murders were very likely just messages for his underlings to stay in line while showing his god favour. That was more than enough reason to not look into the killings any further. After all, it was only one a month, it was barely a concern as long as police weren’t being targeted. So, each case was officially declared closed and unlinked, and not a single officer had noticed that the case files were missing from where they were meant to be filed.
On a not frequently travelled street, down a set of stairs on the front of an old townhouse, was the door to the basement office of the Jericho Private Detective Agency. It was the sort of place that one would never find unless they were actively looking for it, and it was also the sort of place that only needed clients that would put in the effort to seek it out. Inside the currently illuminated office were two people. The first sat behind an oak desk nursing a flask was the private detective that the office was named for, Tucker Jericho. His presence was hardly a surprise as if he wasn’t there, the lights would be out. If he could have his way, they would currently be off as he would’ve far preferred just a lamp to better soothe his growing headache. The lights, however, stayed on at the insistence of the other person in the room as she paced between shifting through the files she had snuck out of the precinct and staring at complete annoyance at the growing mess on the pinboard they had set up. It was looked at oddly for a police officer of any ranking, let alone a detective, to be working with a private investigator. It was frowned upon for them to give out confidential information to them, and it was getting a write-up and forced time off territory to give case files that were decidedly not being investigated to them. Yet, despite all of that, here Sonja was, with half a dozen ‘closed’ murder case files she had been slowly gathering since the third murder, attempting to actually do some work.
The two made an odd pair. Tucker was, to put it simply, pessimistic, even compared to the attitude of a normal private detective. The city was a cesspool of crime kept in place by the very people who were meant to prevent it. The number of times someone had come to him directly because the police had failed to even look into a crime was enough to make anyone bitter. The fact that he often had to work within the underworld himself to get anything done just felt like further kicks. Sonja, meanwhile, was more optimistic than anyone in her position ought to be, even if said optimism was slowly, if still far too quickly, being drained from her. She had truly joined the force originally because she wanted to make a difference, but that wasn’t how things were done. You arrest the unimportant petty criminals or whatever patsy was being passed off as having done a major crime. You take bribes, look the other way, force a confession out of an innocent party and witnesses to keep their mouths shut. Actually trying to do good ended up with all the actual criminals she arrested walking free anyway unless they wanted to be locked up in the first place, and herself very much the odd-one-out of the police force. And she was fine with her status of being the uptight idiot that needed to relax and understand how things were done, but she wasn’t going to let these murders be ignored because of who was doing them, and if Tucker was willing to investigate them, she would happily take any help she could get. If only the two of them were actually getting anywhere.
“There has to be some clue as to why they’ve all been killed, something that actually connects all of them,” Sonja said, beyond frustrated that so far even the apparent mafia connection was so thin that it gave absolutely nothing to actually investigate. It was the only loose connection between them all, but none of them had a strong enough connection to The Syndicate to actually finger it as a motive. Sure, it was completely possible that all of the victims were just people that had unfortunately managed to annoy the mafia boss, but not a single one of them were important enough to warrant being killed like this, let alone all six of them. Not that being murdered was warranted for any reason, but Sonja was really trying to understand the mafia boss' theoretical logic. “Has he just started a cult? Because I can’t think of any possible mistake that a waitress could’ve made that he’d need to make this sort of example of her.”
“No, if he’d started a cult, he’d never shut up about it,” Tucker muttered, trying not to get lost in his annoyance at how open the mob boss was about all his illegal activities. Why keep quiet about your criminal empire when you have every high-ranking person in the police force and city government in your pocket? It was what, to Tucker at least, made the murders so puzzling. Despite them all being attributed to him, Tom hadn’t said a single word about them. No claims of gaining Lord Dianite’s favour, no open bragging about how he’d gotten one over on those who had tried to cross him. For once, it appeared that the man was playing things close to his chest. It was infuriating, somehow more so than if he was openly taunting them.
“Well, he must’ve told someone about all this. It’s too much for him to be doing by himself, so one of his underlings must know something.”
“Great! We just need to figure out which of his trusted capos he told and somehow get them to spill despite the very real risk of them being murdered,” Tucker said, not hiding his sarcasm as he took a swig from his flask. His tone caused Sonja to glare. Obviously, she knew the futility of getting confessions from those loyal to Tom, they’d be more likely to confess to the crimes themselves than sell him out, but she wasn’t suggesting that. Arguably what she was suggesting was worse, not least for their wallets, but it would almost certainly get some sort of results.
“None of Tom’s guys will talk to us, but Capsize will,” Her words almost caused Tucker to choke. Not because the idea was unbelievable, but because her suggesting it was. Sonja, the one who did things by the book and recoiled from the idea of even remotely working within the underworld, had just suggested they go and buy information from a woman whose trade other than information was black-market goods. Sonja tried to look confident, despite knowing the delicate path she was treading. She had never made a deal with Capsize, her finding out about her ‘business’ had been an accident in the first place. The women were friends, a word carefully chosen by the two each time it was said as if they wanted to say something else but couldn’t quite come to terms with that fact. They’d met in a bar on one of Sonja’s off days and begun talking and quickly began meeting up more. And Capsize had been easy to talk to and interesting, if remarkably mysterious about her own occupation. An occupation that Sonja only actually discovered one night due to her brother dragging away a belligerent customer that she definitely wasn’t meant to see. Apparently, the reluctance to talk about her business had been Capsize’s attempt to protect her from the moral issue that she’d become friends with a black-market merchant and information broker. And Sonja had, despite what most would call her better judgement, decided that this was okay as long as their relationship stayed strictly personal and never strayed into a professional one, but right now people’s lives were at risk if they didn’t find a lead.
“Sonja, do you understand what you’re suggesting?” Tucker said, unable to say that the idea was bad but still in complete disbelief that she had suggested it. Honestly, if anyone could have information about Tom committing the murders and not be too scared of him to tell them it would be Capsize. It would certainly be trouble, as he was one of her clients and – worse – one of her friends, so her asking price for information on him was always ridiculously expensive compared to her already stupidly expensive fees. However, given the seriousness of the situation, money wasn’t exactly the thing he was worried about. Rather, his reasoning for questioning was far simpler. “I know that solving cases with me isn’t exactly by the book, but making a deal with Capsize, that’s actually dealing with a criminal. Are you actually okay with that?”
“I wouldn’t have suggested it if I didn’t know the implications and I’m fine with them,” Sonja said, tone subdued. She had always been told that eventually she’d reach a point where she did something because ‘she didn’t have a choice’, though the detectives that said so mockingly had obviously been referring to taking bribes or something else for her own personal good, it didn’t make the idea feel any better about what she was going to do. However, she really truly didn’t see another choice in this situation. One murder a month. By the pattern another disappearance was due any day now, their body to be discovered in another two weeks. How long could she let that keep going because she didn’t want to break her own moral code? It was just some information, that was all, then she’d never need to think about doing anything like this again. She tried to ignore the tiny scratching thought that this was how it started. It always started as a case of just this once. Well, that was something to ponder on another dreamless night of regrets and worries that were becoming far too common for her. “I’m more worried she’ll turn me away as a customer.”
“She can’t turn us both away, I’ve dealt with her too many times for that. But, if you’re actually sure, meet me here tomorrow evening. We’ll head to the Titled Scales together. Hopefully we’ll still have money left for drinks after paying her.”
🌑 🌑 🌑
A few hours later, on the far end of town, the docks were quiet as all save a handful of people had left hours before. There were few workers that remained, those that took the extra pay to be on the lookout for emergencies and to wait for the few ships that arrived by night. All but the newest of them knew to stay clear of the one warehouse still lit up at this time of night, the most experienced on the shift dragging away and lecturing those green enough to try and approach those entering. What they were meant to do was repeated until every person who worked the night shift knew the rules. Ignore the warehouse and its owner and those who go to see her, deny it having occupants to anyone sniffing around asking questions, and don’t interfere with the unmarked crates carried inside. Do that, and you had nothing to worry about from the woman and her bodyguard. Most found that working the docks was dangerous enough without a powerful enemy, so the warehouse tonight, as it did every night, went undisturbed.
Inside of it, a large office with a window overlooking the main floor glowed with light bright enough that anyone looking through from below would easily be able to describe in detail the two sitting inside. One was a man in a suit far too fancy for his current location, though the office itself was far too nice for a warehouse on the docks. It was pinstriped in shining thread and custom tailored, the type of thing that one would only wear somewhere it was so likely to get either dirty or ruined if they knew it’d but a trifle to replace. The other in view was a woman, dressed in a less flashy way, though only because her long navy coat decorated with embroidery was currently draped across the armchair she was relaxed in. Her trousers, shirt, and waistcoat were still custom tailored, she had a professional appearance to keep up, but they were the type she didn’t mind getting messy – today had been a business day after all. Hidden from such a view would be the bodyguard sitting just beyond the office door, leant relaxed against the wall reading as his shotgun sat on his lap. There was nothing he would be needed for, he was just there in case they needed cover for a quick exit, though he still kept an ear out for his sister in case the meeting did somehow turn sour. Most would expect that it would be possible at any moment for something to go wrong in a meeting between the city’s most feared mob boss and its most respected information broker and black-market dealer, but such an assumption would be wrong for this pair. While yes, this was a business deal, that was entirely a technicality as they were acting far more like friends having a casual drink while the newly unsealed box containing a pulsing gem sat on the low table between them.
“You seriously don’t want to know why I want it?” Tom Syndicate asked, his tone more akin to an annoyed teenager than a feared mob boss. His question was odd. Most criminals would be begging this woman for privacy, accepting any price she asked to make sure she didn’t ask questions and that she would protect their secrets rather than selling them on. He, however, had long since passed the need to keep his criminal activities a secret. Yet here his friend was, not even remotely interested in his reasoning for his latest purchase.
“If I questioned you every time you wanted an unusual artefact you have no reason for wanting, I’d be making a lot less money, Tom. I’d probably need to start selling dirt on you to make up the difference,” Capsize said with an unbothered shrug. She had her guesses as to what he might want with sealed magic, but actually knowing would be less than ideal if only half because she’d likely feel some need as his friend to talk him out of whatever he was planning. The other part was, well, she liked not selling information on the few people she called friends, so she liked having enough plausible deniability about Tom’s activities to say that she simply didn’t know when people offered her their life savings to try and get dirt on him. He, however, liked to make this extremely hard as he liked sharing in explicit detail every crime he had and was planning on committing. “Tell me in a week when you’ll have done something else, and no one will care anymore.”
“You’re the worst sometimes,” Tom said, almost sulking. She was always up to date on all the criminal secrets in the city, but always insisted on waiting to hear his. It was, in her own way, a compliment, but it rubbed unpleasantly against his impatience. At least a week wasn’t that long. “But, if you insist, let’s have another meeting in a week. We can call it a date and make Jordan jealous.”
“Jealous of which of us?” She said with a knowing laugh. Tom took a swig of his drink and pouted, refusing to admit out loud that he wanted the bar owner to be jealous of her. Seriously, why was it so hard to win the man’s attention? He was the most powerful person in the city and, frankly, he was being very obvious with his flirting. Capsize resisted rolling her eyes, understanding the troubles of being in love even if she questioned his taste in men. What kind of friend was she if she couldn’t help? “If you really want to make him jealous, I think we can pull it off.”
“Wait, are you being serious?” He perked up almost immediately and she almost laughed at the suddenness of the change. If anyone was listening in other than her brother, they’d think they had gone mad seeing a man so feared pining like so many love-struck idiots. Capsize might question his taste, but she supposed men weren’t exactly her forte in the first place. If her friend needed help, she could provide it.
“Course. You dress up all nice and go to the bar tomorrow evening. After I’m done with customers, we can get a private booth and have a very loud, very unsubtle romantic rendezvous that even Jordan won’t be able to miss,” She said. It shouldn’t be too hard. Even if the man was oblivious, the two of them knew how to command attention and the idea of them dating would be enough to turn heads, especially that of the bartender they’d be ordering drinks from. Honestly, it was worth trying just to see the look on the man’s face, but that wasn’t actually enough for her to do this for free. “And in return you can pick up Red’s bar tab for the night.”
“That’ll be more expensive than the gem!” He exclaimed, embarrassment hitting as he heard laughter from outside the door. Capsize merely smiled.
“I’ll be ruining my reputation. There’s plenty of people that I don’t want to think that we’re dating,” She said. It would take a good month to clean up the mess, she was sure. Again, totally worth it for the look on Jordan’s face, but it would be headache inducing. A night of paying for her brother’s bad habit seemed like a fair enough trade to her.
“Oh, you mean one goody two-shoes cop?” Tom truly meant to ask the question jokingly, as he was more amused by the two’s friendship (as Capsize insisted it was merely friendship) than anything else but Capsize tensed. It was only for a split second, but it was enough to worry him since it was a very un-Capsize-like reaction. She trusted their friendship enough to know he didn’t care, so why did she flinch at a joke? “Who’s said something to you?”
“No one.”
“No, you don’t flinch at jokes about this. We’ve been making jokes for months about your frankly unbelievable crush on the only cop in the city that won’t take bribes. Who’s said something?”
“The capo you sent to oversee the last delivery,” She said quietly, not liking how precarious the memory made her feel. She liked to keep her genuine fears hidden, between herself and Red behind closed doors, because even if she knew and trusted that Tom wasn’t going to have her disappear, his underlings had power themselves. One wrong move and her body wouldn’t be found, though that had been the exact opposite of what she had been threatened with. “He said you should sacrifice me to Dianite like you’ve been doing with the other traitors, gut me like a fish so people know what happens if they get close to that…”
Capsize took a sip of her drink rather than repeat the insult. She knew, obviously, that the sacrifice-like murders weren’t actually being done by Tom. They’d laughed at the idea when the papers had suggested it a few months back. If he was going to sacrifice someone to Dianite he’d made sure to sign his name in bold letters so he could get the credit, but it didn’t make her take the threat any less seriously.
“He tried suggesting he might do it himself, though Red managed to spook him off that idea.”
“Oh, it seems like someone needs to relearn their place in the hierarchy,” Tom spoke darkly, his whiskey glass held with a white-knuckle grip. People thought they could work for him and just run their mouths. Did they really think they were going to get away with threatening his friend and potentially ruining the gang’s relationship with his go-to black-marker dealer and information broker. Even without the personal side, if he ever lost favour with Capsize the number of secrets she could sell would be enough to ruin his empire. Someone going on an ego-trip and possibly causing an issue like that was an unacceptable liability. “Promise you, by tomorrow night he won’t be around to threaten you again.”
“Efficient as always.”
“I can’t have people getting too big for their boots,” They both spoke as if it was strictly business, as if Capsize hadn’t been genuinely scared and Tom wasn’t genuinely angry. It was easier that way. They both knew the lives they lead. That a single slip up could be all it took for their businesses to come crumbling down around them. But why worry about the endless possible ways things could end? The night was still young, and they were friends. So why stress when they could discuss their upcoming fake date the following night? It wasn’t as if anything terrible was going to happen anytime soon.
