Under the New Moon [Mianite Noir AU]
Relationships: Discussed Syndisparklez and Foxxsize
Characters: Sonja Firefoxx, Tucker Jericho, Tom Syndicate, Captain Capsize, Skipper Redbeard
For the past six months, a new body has been found in the city. Each killed in the gruesome sacrifice to Lord Dianite a fortnight after the victim disappeared off the streets without a trace. Not a link between the victims, or at least that’s the story the public have been told. In reality, the police force has long since come to the conclusion that the murders have been committed by Tom Syndicate, the cities’ most infamous mafia boss, and written off investigating rather than deal with the man with the city in his pocket. All expect for one detective.
Having stolen the case files, Detective Sonja Foxx is attempting to come up with any lead on the case as with the current pattern the next victim is due to disappear any day. However, even with the help of Private Detective Tucker Jericho, no clues are appearing, and she may need to cross the line she has desperately been trying to keep for herself if she wants to prevent another victim from suffering a terrible fate.

The darkening light as the sun set behind the horizon gave the already grim city an atmosphere that caused even the most relaxed soul to look over their shoulder at whoever was walking behind them. Such an action wouldn’t be questioned given the growing fears of the general population that had been slowly but surely mounting throughout the past few months. This had never been the safest city, what with the rampant crime and corrupt police force, but at the very least it was safe enough that the average citizen could shake off their fears of any of those terrible things affecting them. As long as they kept their head down and their nose clean, they could avoid ever getting tangled in the messy web of crime that ran the city and they could live their lives unconcerned. It had been the sort of fear that people could live with. However, a darker threat had begun to fester. People were disappearing, criminals and law-abiding civilians alike, the only connection being that each disappeared when walking through the streets at sunset. That and that each of their bodies had appeared weeks later in gruesome scenes that previously would’ve only appeared in the deepest parts of the criminal underworld for the worst of traitors.
Murders, of course, had never been unheard of in the city. In fact, they were worryingly common if you actually counted them all rather than writing off the disappearances and accidents that occurred to those that needed to be taught a lesson, however none so gruesome had ever infested the city like this. Ritual sacrifices were the best way to describe the scenes, and that was in fact how they were being described by any of those talking about them. Each victim was seemingly an offering to Lord Dianite. Typically, with a killer like this, one that targeted seemingly average civilians, one that the papers were nicknaming and turning into a bogeyman, the police force would be investigating despite their corrupt nature. However, in this case the nature of the scenes, and the only seeming connection that the victims had, had made them back off. It wasn’t public knowledge, of course, but the minimal investigations had revealed that, even if completely tangentially, each of the victims had some connection to The Syndicate. Of course, the same could be said of nearly everyone in the city, but Tom Syndicate was an infamous worshipper of Lord Dianite. Thus, the Chief of Police had decided that the man had surely just taken a religious turn, and that the murders were very likely just messages for his underlings to stay in line while showing his god favour. That was more than enough reason to not look into the killings any further. After all, it was only one a month, it was barely a concern as long as police weren’t being targeted. So, each case was officially declared closed and unlinked, and not a single officer had noticed that the case files were missing from where they were meant to be filed.
On a not frequently travelled street, down a set of stairs on the front of an old townhouse, was the door to the basement office of the Jericho Private Detective Agency. It was the sort of place that one would never find unless they were actively looking for it, and it was also the sort of place that only needed clients that would put in the effort to seek it out. Inside the currently illuminated office were two people. The first sat behind an oak desk nursing a flask was the private detective that the office was named for, Tucker Jericho. His presence was hardly a surprise as if he wasn’t there, the lights would be out. If he could have his way, they would currently be off as he would’ve far preferred just a lamp to better soothe his growing headache. The lights, however, stayed on at the insistence of the other person in the room as she paced between shifting through the files she had snuck out of the precinct and staring at complete annoyance at the growing mess on the pinboard they had set up. It was looked at oddly for a police officer of any ranking, let alone a detective, to be working with a private investigator. It was frowned upon for them to give out confidential information to them, and it was getting a write-up and forced time off territory to give case files that were decidedly not being investigated to them. Yet, despite all of that, here Sonja was, with half a dozen ‘closed’ murder case files she had been slowly gathering since the third murder, attempting to actually do some work.
The two made an odd pair. Tucker was, to put it simply, pessimistic, even compared to the attitude of a normal private detective. The city was a cesspool of crime kept in place by the very people who were meant to prevent it. The number of times someone had come to him directly because the police had failed to even look into a crime was enough to make anyone bitter. The fact that he often had to work within the underworld himself to get anything done just felt like further kicks. Sonja, meanwhile, was more optimistic than anyone in her position ought to be, even if said optimism was slowly, if still far too quickly, being drained from her. She had truly joined the force originally because she wanted to make a difference, but that wasn’t how things were done. You arrest the unimportant petty criminals or whatever patsy was being passed off as having done a major crime. You take bribes, look the other way, force a confession out of an innocent party and witnesses to keep their mouths shut. Actually trying to do good ended up with all the actual criminals she arrested walking free anyway unless they wanted to be locked up in the first place, and herself very much the odd-one-out of the police force. And she was fine with her status of being the uptight idiot that needed to relax and understand how things were done, but she wasn’t going to let these murders be ignored because of who was doing them, and if Tucker was willing to investigate them, she would happily take any help she could get. If only the two of them were actually getting anywhere.
“There has to be some clue as to why they’ve all been killed, something that actually connects all of them,” Sonja said, beyond frustrated that so far even the apparent mafia connection was so thin that it gave absolutely nothing to actually investigate. It was the only loose connection between them all, but none of them had a strong enough connection to The Syndicate to actually finger it as a motive. Sure, it was completely possible that all of the victims were just people that had unfortunately managed to annoy the mafia boss, but not a single one of them were important enough to warrant being killed like this, let alone all six of them. Not that being murdered was warranted for any reason, but Sonja was really trying to understand the mafia boss' theoretical logic. “Has he just started a cult? Because I can’t think of any possible mistake that a waitress could’ve made that he’d need to make this sort of example of her.”
“No, if he’d started a cult, he’d never shut up about it,” Tucker muttered, trying not to get lost in his annoyance at how open the mob boss was about all his illegal activities. Why keep quiet about your criminal empire when you have every high-ranking person in the police force and city government in your pocket? It was what, to Tucker at least, made the murders so puzzling. Despite them all being attributed to him, Tom hadn’t said a single word about them. No claims of gaining Lord Dianite’s favour, no open bragging about how he’d gotten one over on those who had tried to cross him. For once, it appeared that the man was playing things close to his chest. It was infuriating, somehow more so than if he was openly taunting them.
“Well, he must’ve told someone about all this. It’s too much for him to be doing by himself, so one of his underlings must know something.”
“Great! We just need to figure out which of his trusted capos he told and somehow get them to spill despite the very real risk of them being murdered,” Tucker said, not hiding his sarcasm as he took a swig from his flask. His tone caused Sonja to glare. Obviously, she knew the futility of getting confessions from those loyal to Tom, they’d be more likely to confess to the crimes themselves than sell him out, but she wasn’t suggesting that. Arguably what she was suggesting was worse, not least for their wallets, but it would almost certainly get some sort of results.
“None of Tom’s guys will talk to us, but Capsize will,” Her words almost caused Tucker to choke. Not because the idea was unbelievable, but because her suggesting it was. Sonja, the one who did things by the book and recoiled from the idea of even remotely working within the underworld, had just suggested they go and buy information from a woman whose trade other than information was black-market goods. Sonja tried to look confident, despite knowing the delicate path she was treading. She had never made a deal with Capsize, her finding out about her ‘business’ had been an accident in the first place. The women were friends, a word carefully chosen by the two each time it was said as if they wanted to say something else but couldn’t quite come to terms with that fact. They’d met in a bar on one of Sonja’s off days and begun talking and quickly began meeting up more. And Capsize had been easy to talk to and interesting, if remarkably mysterious about her own occupation. An occupation that Sonja only actually discovered one night due to her brother dragging away a belligerent customer that she definitely wasn’t meant to see. Apparently, the reluctance to talk about her business had been Capsize’s attempt to protect her from the moral issue that she’d become friends with a black-market merchant and information broker. And Sonja had, despite what most would call her better judgement, decided that this was okay as long as their relationship stayed strictly personal and never strayed into a professional one, but right now people’s lives were at risk if they didn’t find a lead.
“Sonja, do you understand what you’re suggesting?” Tucker said, unable to say that the idea was bad but still in complete disbelief that she had suggested it. Honestly, if anyone could have information about Tom committing the murders and not be too scared of him to tell them it would be Capsize. It would certainly be trouble, as he was one of her clients and – worse – one of her friends, so her asking price for information on him was always ridiculously expensive compared to her already stupidly expensive fees. However, given the seriousness of the situation, money wasn’t exactly the thing he was worried about. Rather, his reasoning for questioning was far simpler. “I know that solving cases with me isn’t exactly by the book, but making a deal with Capsize, that’s actually dealing with a criminal. Are you actually okay with that?”
“I wouldn’t have suggested it if I didn’t know the implications and I’m fine with them,” Sonja said, tone subdued. She had always been told that eventually she’d reach a point where she did something because ‘she didn’t have a choice’, though the detectives that said so mockingly had obviously been referring to taking bribes or something else for her own personal good, it didn’t make the idea feel any better about what she was going to do. However, she really truly didn’t see another choice in this situation. One murder a month. By the pattern another disappearance was due any day now, their body to be discovered in another two weeks. How long could she let that keep going because she didn’t want to break her own moral code? It was just some information, that was all, then she’d never need to think about doing anything like this again. She tried to ignore the tiny scratching thought that this was how it started. It always started as a case of just this once. Well, that was something to ponder on another dreamless night of regrets and worries that were becoming far too common for her. “I’m more worried she’ll turn me away as a customer.”
“She can’t turn us both away, I’ve dealt with her too many times for that. But, if you’re actually sure, meet me here tomorrow evening. We’ll head to the Titled Scales together. Hopefully we’ll still have money left for drinks after paying her.”
🌑 🌑 🌑
A few hours later, on the far end of town, the docks were quiet as all save a handful of people had left hours before. There were few workers that remained, those that took the extra pay to be on the lookout for emergencies and to wait for the few ships that arrived by night. All but the newest of them knew to stay clear of the one warehouse still lit up at this time of night, the most experienced on the shift dragging away and lecturing those green enough to try and approach those entering. What they were meant to do was repeated until every person who worked the night shift knew the rules. Ignore the warehouse and its owner and those who go to see her, deny it having occupants to anyone sniffing around asking questions, and don’t interfere with the unmarked crates carried inside. Do that, and you had nothing to worry about from the woman and her bodyguard. Most found that working the docks was dangerous enough without a powerful enemy, so the warehouse tonight, as it did every night, went undisturbed.
Inside of it, a large office with a window overlooking the main floor glowed with light bright enough that anyone looking through from below would easily be able to describe in detail the two sitting inside. One was a man in a suit far too fancy for his current location, though the office itself was far too nice for a warehouse on the docks. It was pinstriped in shining thread and custom tailored, the type of thing that one would only wear somewhere it was so likely to get either dirty or ruined if they knew it’d but a trifle to replace. The other in view was a woman, dressed in a less flashy way, though only because her long navy coat decorated with embroidery was currently draped across the armchair she was relaxed in. Her trousers, shirt, and waistcoat were still custom tailored, she had a professional appearance to keep up, but they were the type she didn’t mind getting messy – today had been a business day after all. Hidden from such a view would be the bodyguard sitting just beyond the office door, leant relaxed against the wall reading as his shotgun sat on his lap. There was nothing he would be needed for, he was just there in case they needed cover for a quick exit, though he still kept an ear out for his sister in case the meeting did somehow turn sour. Most would expect that it would be possible at any moment for something to go wrong in a meeting between the city’s most feared mob boss and its most respected information broker and black-market dealer, but such an assumption would be wrong for this pair. While yes, this was a business deal, that was entirely a technicality as they were acting far more like friends having a casual drink while the newly unsealed box containing a pulsing gem sat on the low table between them.
“You seriously don’t want to know why I want it?” Tom Syndicate asked, his tone more akin to an annoyed teenager than a feared mob boss. His question was odd. Most criminals would be begging this woman for privacy, accepting any price she asked to make sure she didn’t ask questions and that she would protect their secrets rather than selling them on. He, however, had long since passed the need to keep his criminal activities a secret. Yet here his friend was, not even remotely interested in his reasoning for his latest purchase.
“If I questioned you every time you wanted an unusual artefact you have no reason for wanting, I’d be making a lot less money, Tom. I’d probably need to start selling dirt on you to make up the difference,” Capsize said with an unbothered shrug. She had her guesses as to what he might want with sealed magic, but actually knowing would be less than ideal if only half because she’d likely feel some need as his friend to talk him out of whatever he was planning. The other part was, well, she liked not selling information on the few people she called friends, so she liked having enough plausible deniability about Tom’s activities to say that she simply didn’t know when people offered her their life savings to try and get dirt on him. He, however, liked to make this extremely hard as he liked sharing in explicit detail every crime he had and was planning on committing. “Tell me in a week when you’ll have done something else, and no one will care anymore.”
“You’re the worst sometimes,” Tom said, almost sulking. She was always up to date on all the criminal secrets in the city, but always insisted on waiting to hear his. It was, in her own way, a compliment, but it rubbed unpleasantly against his impatience. At least a week wasn’t that long. “But, if you insist, let’s have another meeting in a week. We can call it a date and make Jordan jealous.”
“Jealous of which of us?” She said with a knowing laugh. Tom took a swig of his drink and pouted, refusing to admit out loud that he wanted the bar owner to be jealous of her. Seriously, why was it so hard to win the man’s attention? He was the most powerful person in the city and, frankly, he was being very obvious with his flirting. Capsize resisted rolling her eyes, understanding the troubles of being in love even if she questioned his taste in men. What kind of friend was she if she couldn’t help? “If you really want to make him jealous, I think we can pull it off.”
“Wait, are you being serious?” He perked up almost immediately and she almost laughed at the suddenness of the change. If anyone was listening in other than her brother, they’d think they had gone mad seeing a man so feared pining like so many love-struck idiots. Capsize might question his taste, but she supposed men weren’t exactly her forte in the first place. If her friend needed help, she could provide it.
“Course. You dress up all nice and go to the bar tomorrow evening. After I’m done with customers, we can get a private booth and have a very loud, very unsubtle romantic rendezvous that even Jordan won’t be able to miss,” She said. It shouldn’t be too hard. Even if the man was oblivious, the two of them knew how to command attention and the idea of them dating would be enough to turn heads, especially that of the bartender they’d be ordering drinks from. Honestly, it was worth trying just to see the look on the man’s face, but that wasn’t actually enough for her to do this for free. “And in return you can pick up Red’s bar tab for the night.”
“That’ll be more expensive than the gem!” He exclaimed, embarrassment hitting as he heard laughter from outside the door. Capsize merely smiled.
“I’ll be ruining my reputation. There’s plenty of people that I don’t want to think that we’re dating,” She said. It would take a good month to clean up the mess, she was sure. Again, totally worth it for the look on Jordan’s face, but it would be headache inducing. A night of paying for her brother’s bad habit seemed like a fair enough trade to her.
“Oh, you mean one goody two-shoes cop?” Tom truly meant to ask the question jokingly, as he was more amused by the two’s friendship (as Capsize insisted it was merely friendship) than anything else but Capsize tensed. It was only for a split second, but it was enough to worry him since it was a very un-Capsize-like reaction. She trusted their friendship enough to know he didn’t care, so why did she flinch at a joke? “Who’s said something to you?”
“No one.”
“No, you don’t flinch at jokes about this. We’ve been making jokes for months about your frankly unbelievable crush on the only cop in the city that won’t take bribes. Who’s said something?”
“The capo you sent to oversee the last delivery,” She said quietly, not liking how precarious the memory made her feel. She liked to keep her genuine fears hidden, between herself and Red behind closed doors, because even if she knew and trusted that Tom wasn’t going to have her disappear, his underlings had power themselves. One wrong move and her body wouldn’t be found, though that had been the exact opposite of what she had been threatened with. “He said you should sacrifice me to Dianite like you’ve been doing with the other traitors, gut me like a fish so people know what happens if they get close to that…”
Capsize took a sip of her drink rather than repeat the insult. She knew, obviously, that the sacrifice-like murders weren’t actually being done by Tom. They’d laughed at the idea when the papers had suggested it a few months back. If he was going to sacrifice someone to Dianite he’d made sure to sign his name in bold letters so he could get the credit, but it didn’t make her take the threat any less seriously.
“He tried suggesting he might do it himself, though Red managed to spook him off that idea.”
“Oh, it seems like someone needs to relearn their place in the hierarchy,” Tom spoke darkly, his whiskey glass held with a white-knuckle grip. People thought they could work for him and just run their mouths. Did they really think they were going to get away with threatening his friend and potentially ruining the gang’s relationship with his go-to black-marker dealer and information broker. Even without the personal side, if he ever lost favour with Capsize the number of secrets she could sell would be enough to ruin his empire. Someone going on an ego-trip and possibly causing an issue like that was an unacceptable liability. “Promise you, by tomorrow night he won’t be around to threaten you again.”
“Efficient as always.”
“I can’t have people getting too big for their boots,” They both spoke as if it was strictly business, as if Capsize hadn’t been genuinely scared and Tom wasn’t genuinely angry. It was easier that way. They both knew the lives they lead. That a single slip up could be all it took for their businesses to come crumbling down around them. But why worry about the endless possible ways things could end? The night was still young, and they were friends. So why stress when they could discuss their upcoming fake date the following night? It wasn’t as if anything terrible was going to happen anytime soon.

you heard of the kites and nightingales, kestrels and herons... but little do you know, another faction hides in the caves and unseen crevices of the faction isles...
I've been brainrotting about a Krimson Krakens (+ mianite pirates and Tom because I do what I want) cameo in Pirates SMP, so have some worldbuilding and lore ideas! Of course, all for fun, moreso an AU/Headcanon than anything, not meant to be taken seriously at all :] If it turns into anything more, cool beans, but for now! I'm just vibing
(Made in collaboration with @kaye-memer-kurrentvertz who helped with the Dave, Krinios and Krakens dynamic stuffs :D)
Little prologue and ficlet below the cut; Enjoy!
Meet the Krimson Krakens.
Comprised of mystical and mysterious individuals- some of more human in appearance than others- no one is sure when this faction formed. Unlike the others, it holds no precedence over the many generations of pirates in these Isles, nor is their presence heard of other then in whispers between pirates across the land.
Carrying with them an infamous reputation of a crew like a Kraken; in search of breaking curses, solving the mysteries of the Isles. Who would find their target and take it over like tentacles wrapping around a ship reaching into its deepest corners until they've found what they're looking for, no stone left unturned in their wake.
The crew is headed by the elusive Captain Kara Corvus, adorned by many snakes upon her shoulders, and Captain Jordan Sparklez of draconic origins; the latter said to have begun life in the End, given humanity by a deity and brought into the Overworld as a curse. While they bicker a lot sometimes, they are a powerhouse of a duo who know each other very well, being a force to reckoned with especially while wielding their respective weapons- Kara's ruby-adorned Leviathan Blade and Jordan's unbreakable enchanted prismarine trident with a name in Enderian spoken only once ever by the deity that crafted it
But they by no means hold any sort of superiority over the others, for like Nightingales, they value friendship and comradery over power over one another. By their side is the former Kestrel cyclops Krinios- a man with a keen eye for treasure and an ability to loot a ship in the heat of battle which has been considered unmatched, only having been caught a few times. - and Dave Krtzy, a fighter from a bloodline stretching generations in the Kites who broke it to join the Krakens. A master with any melee weapon he can get his hands on, he's usually the first to jump into battle, and if someone's in danger, his waterman abilities come into play.
However, while these four make up the core of the Krakens they are not alone in their adventures, and have picked up other friends along the way
Joining them are the Dulahann siblings, Katherine "Capsize" and Redbeard (his birth name has been all but forgotten by the others) and family friend Rupert, a skeleton reborn from an island of purple goo who gained sentience thanks to Capsize's mother. The Dine-at-Night is their family's tavern-BnB that was expanded into a base of operations after the trio met Jordan, who one day washed up on the beach with little memory of where he came from- and sort of became his family. While not a Captain in this universe, she still takes up a leadership role of her own right in being rather good with a sword, solving mysteries, collecting evidence and giving the realest advice to both friends and passing bar patrons. Red's a little more loose headed but alongside Rupert is a skilled ship engineer, and the guy to go to if the boat's got a leak or a steering system has gone awry. Not much is known about Rupert besides him being known to be a jack of all trades, a powerful asset to have onboard. He has said to have had said he has a claim to fame in his past life before dying on the taint-covered island, but has yet to share it with anyone..
The most recent member to join them is the undead Tom Syndicate, a blue-haired zombie with an explosive personality and fighting style, who had been known to frequent taverns across the Isle. Having once belonged to a rival independent crew of the Krakens, rumor has it that he betrayed them after years of mistreatment, turning instead to choose to join Cpt. Sparklez out of admiration and perhaps a kind of affection that turned romantic over the years (to the point of claiming to be married to the captain, no one knows for sure how true this is). Despite coming from a very different background than the others, including a lost memory of who he was before he had been zombified he fits in quite well, his willingness to jump into battle like a cannonball flying through the air and explode on enemies without second thought brings a certain chaos to the Krakens that they have accepted wholeheartedly.
While their ship is stored away in a sea cliff hidden behind a waterfall somewhere on the island, the tunnel system leading there from beneath the Dine-at-Night, the Krakens enjoy a relaxing life on land, chilling at their tavern base of operations, or being a living legend amongst the other inhabitants, familiar but unfamiliar faces in the crowd. Some have started to believe that their swashbuckling days are few far between in the lack of comings and goings since the new recruits have arrived, but contrary to that they still have been traversing under cover of night to seek out what darkness could be brewing just around the corner. From the growing amount of purple in Rupert's hair to a sudden glow of the rusted coin around Dave's neck the Krakens have had their suspicions for a while....

"Oi! Ye heard what happened?"
Jordan jolts awake off the bar when the bottom of a mug hits against his shoulder. He glares at the Scottish accented, freckled face that passes him, an eyebrow raised.
"No... Heard what Kat?" He grovels, and sits up a little straighter, turning to check the time. 1am. He rests his hand under his chin, hoping that propping it up would keep him awake for the time being. "It better be important, I was having a nice dream for once in my life."
Capsize rolls her eyes. "I don't think that's all gonna matter all that much one ye hear about what I heard today."
He eyes her cautiously as sets the mug she was drying down on the bar. There were a number of things that she could be alluding to, from their own personal affairs, to Tom causing trouble at the Heron's base to something as drastic as their ship had been stolen, or worse burnt to the ground. He hoped it wasn't the last one, but even if it was, he and Kara had a contingency plan.
He murmurs. "I mean maybe... what'd you hear?"
She sits down on a stool across from him, folding her hands together. "The Factioning was a few days ago, right?" She waits for him to nod in response, ensuring that she had the dragon's full attention. "Turns out, that's not the only thing that happened that day. Something calls them out to the Isle to the north, spoken through the recruitment officer."
"The fox man? He told them to go?"
"From the looks of it, yeah." She fiddled with her bracelet, the clacking of the beads breaking through the ambient sound of distant ocean waves and the crackle of torchlight. "I mean, I wasn't there so what would I know. for sure, but they listened."
Jordan shrugs. "I mean PK's a trustworthy guy, I'd probably go if he told me to."
"Yeah, well you'd trust Tom if he told you to walk the plank, I'm not surprised." Despite her little quip, Capsize's face becomes more serious solemn in expression and her voice lowers. "I don't think they were meant to because turns out, twenty-four of them went over there, two of them didn't come back. Kestrels and Kites apparently both lost a member of their faction."
"... Like they stayed? Why would anyone wanna hang out at the wasteland, there's nothing there but-"
"Jordan. They died."
A gust of wind howls outside through the barely cracked windows, the flame within the lantern beside her flickering briefly twice.
The wings on the captain's back droop slowly downward as he lowers his hand onto the bar crouching over ever so slightly. "Died? From what, the island?"
"I don't know, but from what it sounds like. Yeah." She gulps. "One get taken away on a boat.. of sorts? The other follows and lands onto the island probably to chase after their friend, and never comes back."
Jordan feels his heart drop further down into his chest. He finds himself fidgeting with the rings on his fingers, already a million possibilities running through his head "Did they get a look at who took the first one away, at least? So there's somewhere to start?"
"All that I was told is that they were dressed in robes. Could've been a cult, bandits in disguise, ghosts for all I know- Not much to go off of." She solemnly runs her hand through her hair, reaching to untie her bandana allowing her bangs to fall into her face. "It's a feckin' shame really... after all these years. I didn't think anything of that damn accursed land would ever come back. Because here I thought they'd be able to recover properly this time, not let whatever still lingers take back over."
A glaze falls over Jordan's expression. Memories of dried violet entrails wrapping around buildings, skeletons not unlike in appearance to Rupert buried in the masses of warped wood and sunken docks. Wind howled over the tops of the valleys and mountains carved out, through temples that had been thought to be abandoned for centuries. The time he, Kara, Red and Dave travelled there in search of another medallion there was a certain eerie silence, the sign of a land that no longer had any visible, breathing life to it, but remained haunted by all that came before, and all that was yet to come.
Jordan furrowed his eyebrows together. "That means… the island's alive again?"
Capsize nodded. "Aye. The island is alive again."

[Jordan adds a lava trap to the fortress]
context: between e23 and e29 the war fizzles out and basically ends, meanwhile Tom gets a clownfish named Marlin of whom he loves dearly, which Jordan steals and hides under the mianite temple
29- 16:50-end (24 min)
[at 10:50 Declan told everyone to meet him outside his house at noon minecraft time with all of their best items]
context: with the war over Tom built a new house closer to spawn
31- 5:45-13:40 (8 min)
context: now that the war was over they decided to do weekly Purge events (like the movie franchise) in which all theft and murder was completely legal without repercussions
34- 20:30-end (31 min)
[Cronus (the messenger of the shadows) was there as a Purger just hanging out]
context: between episodes 34 and 50 it was decided that everyone would construct a vault to act as their storage system so that during the purge they didn't have to continue to hide chests, and instead would have secure* places to store their items and keep their beds
*people can't break blocks to get in but if they can get in other ways that's legal and encouraged
during that time the build team for hire (the now disbanded FyreUK) showed up as the Wizards, who for a fee (25-100 diamonds) would build anything asked for. Jordan requested Jerry's Tree 2.0 to be built to the right of his house, just off the shoreline.
they built a court house (the quartz house) so that when someone did break the rules they could have a fair-ish trial to determine guilt
Tom also moved. again.
50- 13:55-28:35 (15 min)
[Jordan stole the Dianite armor fair and square during the purge]
51- start 15:25 (15 min)
59- 6:30-10:00 (4 min)
context: they have wands (knockback 10 sticks) that when hit with send you flying
60- 13:00-31:00 (18 min)
61- 4:20-50:00 AND 1:12:15-1:13:35 (45 min)
62- 24:10-41:50 (17 min)
67- full episode (47 min)
[this was during a charity stream]
context: they had a massive games arena built and they were playing bow pvp parkour for one of the first times
68- 24:35-end (23 min)
context: everyone got god gifts; Jordan got a beautiful forest around his house, Tucker and Sonja got god armor, and Tom got a ship from Captain Capsize
up until this point Capsize had been flirting with both Jordan and Tom, but things seemed more serious towards Jordan
71- 16:40-end (32 min)
context: between episode 71 and 79 ALL vault theft no matter the time became legal, they were also tasked with building an airship to go to a place called Aethoria to rescue Capsize, with Redbeard supplying materials
79- 11:35-15:50 (4 min)
80- 4:25-end (21 min, somewhat optional, it's mostly building and banter)
context: Skipper then got drunk and crashed the ship, forcing them to make a new one, of which Tom used literally all his remaining diamonds to make diamond wings for
84- 24:20-end (23 min)
85- full episode (1 h 5 min)

For a Mianite prompt: The aftermass of Dianite or Capsize's death? Maybe with Tom seeing their ghosts? (I really liked the trinity island fic you did)
(hi i'm so glad you enjoyed that one! i gotta credit @syndianites for the headcanon, it's lived rent free in my brain ever since)
The silence was very loud.
Furia pulled her blade from the fallen Captain's now limp body, unruffled, professional. He didn't even give the blade the honor of being cleaned, simply letting the blood still shining dark and grotesquely on it drip to the floor in precious little beads.
With a hoarse, ragged yell, Redbeard drew his own sword at blinding speed and charged Furia, light breaking where it hit the dueling blades. Tucker was shouting now, banging on the walls but still stuck in the hole he'd fallen into. Jordan walked forward a step, uncertain, obviously caught between wanting to help Redbeard with the fight and not wanting to get within slashing distance of the now raging duel. Which made sense, all things considered, because Redbeard's swordsmanship was more than advanced enough to keep up with the Guardian of the Temple of Dianite, Furia herself.
Speaking of Furia-
Oh, nevermind. He's dead now.
The Skipper wavered where he stood, breath coming in heaves, before dropping his sword and stumbling over to where his sister's body lay. Dropping to his knees, he clumsily took her hand and howled.
To say that it hurt to watch was an understatement. Tom hated that he had to look away, and hated himself for doing it, but he knew what came next. Even out of the corner of his eye, he could see a shimmer raise from Capsize's body.
He forced himself to look up again and directly at the scene unspooling itself before him. (Fittingly, nobody left alive in the room was looking at Furia.) Sonja was trying and failing to help pull Tucker out of the hole in the floor. Jordan stood statue-still in the place he had been for the past five minutes, and next to where Redbeard knelt, utterly undone by grief, the ghost of Capsize sat, desperately trying and failing to capture his attention. She caught Tom staring at her and he looked away, a second too late.
Shit.
"What's wrong?" she demanded, stomping towards him. "Why can't he hear me? Why can you see me? Answer me, laddie!"
"Because you're dead," said Tom, rubbing his eyes with a sigh to avoid looking at everything. "They can't see you. If it helps, Furia's dead."
Furia's soul was gone to god knows where. Tom saw it out of the corner of his eye but did not dare look over. He instead focused on the spectre of Capsize, resplendent in rage, and tried to calm his nerves.
"And you can?" Capsize asked now, voice raising in volume and anger. "Ye did nothing to help! My brother thinks me gone and ye just be standing there like a damn fool!"
"Because none of them know that I can talk to ghosts," Tom said quickly. "Please keep your voice down. I can't do anything right now when everyone else is here and watching."
"So to them, you're just talking to yourself?"
Tom sighed. "Yeah. I've been doing it for years. They probably think I'm crazy."
Capsize nodded in satisfaction. "Good. Because you are."
Tom sighed again, stepping back and raising his hands slightly in surrender. "I can pass on any messages you have to Redbeard," he said, desperate to avoid the intensity of Capsize's glare. "I'll have to wait a few minutes to pull him aside and tell him in private, but it's the least I can do."
Capsize tilted her head thoughtfully. "So ye do have a heart." (Tom winced a little at that, but said nothing.) "Very well. Tell me brother that I'm still here and that I be very grateful to him for revenging me so swiftly. Mum would be proud."
Tom nodded, and she continued. "So if I be a ghost, what now? Do I just haunt ye for the rest of eternity?"
Tom shrugged. "I mean, it's different for everyone," he said. "You could. Some people move on instantly, like Furia did. Gods and people blessed by gods tend to respawn. Some hang around a little bit before headed to the afterlife, if you want to do that I might be able to point you in the right direction. I've made a few friends with the really old ghosts that are just happy to be seen and heard after decades of being invisible to the living. It's your choice, really."
Capsize continued regarding him with that even gaze with her arms crossed, seemingly weighing his entire soul. "Didn't expect a follower of Dianite to be a medium," she said eventually with grudging respect.
"A what?"
"A medium. People who intervene for the dead and guide them to the afterlife."
"I mean, I guess," said Tom with another shrug, looking through Capsize to keep an eye on everyone else. "Okay. Tucker's out of the hole and Jordan's talking to Redbeard. We should probably be back on the road again soon. You should be able to float through people and walls with no problem, so just follow us out until we're back in the Overworld again and we can talk more then. Deal?"
"Deal," said Capsize, holding out one ghostly hand.
"Can't shake," said Tom. "It'd go right through."
"Nevermind, then," said Capsize, sticking her hand back in her pocket with a sigh as she looked back towards her brother. "Hope he remembers to toss me body into the sea. It's the customary burial for all sailors. If he had been the one who had died, I would have done the same for him."
Tom nodded, and as he walked over to Sonja and Tucker to catch them up on what had happened, Capsize stayed behind, watching him thoughtfully.

for the ask: tom or skipper redbeard
Redbeard’s:
Tumblr media
Didn’t put “eye removal” because the guys got heterochromia in his eyes and not a single thought behind them. Also, “shitty parents” because I think in their household it was a classic case of heavily playing favorites and he was not the winner of that game ever.
Tom’s:
Tumblr media
I debated on highlighting “worked for corp” because of s2 Dianite’s existence as the god of capitalism and all that, but idk if it counts.

what drives me crazy is how capsize literally never wanted to be on equal footing with jordan. he asked to be co-captains and she straight up denied him but when they bet she say something along the lines of “if she wins he joins her crew forever” which I’d argue implies that she’d probably give him an awful/ humiliating position on crew. like the way that skipper is defined as an informal way of saying captain but capsize is the ultimate authority on her ship, like Redbeard has to essentially ask super nicely if jordan can join because that’s not his decision to make but hers…capsize makes me rabid bro like sooo crazy
LITERALLY!!!!! she KNOWS her worth she KNOWS how skilled and smart she is. her home burned down and she said fuck it we go to sea. everyone else in her crew is her senior she KNOWS how good of a leader she is. she knows how to function when people are depending on her and have high expectations of her.
which is why it's so insane that she has to compete with jordan. i doubt she was insecure because she has to know that she's been doing everything right. she's confused she's angry and she's dead set on making sure this guy knows his place (which he clearly doesn't).
but in the grand scheme of things there's something so much larger than she could ever comprehend at play (the meta of the storyline and the multiple universes) that determines her place in the world is lesser than the gods and the champions which have basically been pre-chosen. and even she is a special case because jordan created ianite. and she has no idea.
so she's forced to compete with someone for a title she expected, and she KNOWS that person is so much less deserving. but in the grand scheme of things, the nepotism if the narrative and the intrinsic bond between jordan and ianite proved more than she could stand up against, especially since she was completely unaware of them.

Actually the idea of endings just gave me an idea.
"Get up." Her voice cuts through the haze, steadiness through my labored breathing and the pounding in my head. "Skipper if you don't stand up now I'm just going to keep hitting you until you have a reason to lay there." I struggle to my feet and ready by cutlass. "Widen your stance, your feet are too shakey one good kick" the feeling of the world being swept out from under me as almost soundlessly she closed the distance and decided to give me a practical demonstration. "And you're watching the sky and your head." She places her own blade uncomfortably close to my throat. "Will roll." She withdraws the sword and offers me a hand which I accept. "Not that you use it much" she gives her wild smile and pulls me to my feet before turning away and heading back below deck. "Skipper." She says in a softer voice. "Aye captain?" I wait for a response she doesn't say anything for a long while. "You've gotta be strong, we're here to protect our people... you're here to protect our people."
I grip my cutlass and deepen my stance. I take a deep breath. "Aye, breathe Skipper." I grip and regrip the blades hilt. "Aye you've gotta be brave skipper, you have to." I strike. Its a good cut, probably the best swing of my life. I stand still steadying my heart. I can't break here I've got to be strong. No I am strong after all today is the day I finally managed to win against her.

More on the Mianite Monster Hunters AU:
Original post
Sonja and Jordan have been partners in the monster hunting world for a little while now. They were first paired after they both experienced temporary possession and it was assumed that a shared experience would be helpful to them both getting past it. Both found the original reasoning for their pairing awkward as they didn't really want to discuss said experience, but thankfully they ended up working well together and becoming friends as well as partners. The fact that they're both interested in researching monsters beyond just their contracts certainly helps.
Tom at first assumes that Jordan and Sonja are looking for him, since he doesn't know about the demon in town and it doesn't make logical sense to hunt for sirens on land. When he hears they're looking for a demon, he's confused, but doesn't stop trying to throw them off track (along with a lot of flirting with Jordan) as he knows that his defence of being a devil rather than a demon isn't exactly persuasive.
Capsize and Redbeard had experienced hunters before and were understandably nervous to see two investigating. The nerves don't really go away, though they (alongside Tom) do begin warming up to the two over the time of trying to throw them off track (Redbeard has been relentlessly teasing Capsize and Tom for flirting with monster hunters).
Tom and Capsize first met when Tom entered her waters while doing a favour for a higher devil (Dianite) and ran into her while diving for the relic he was looking for. Capsize very much saw the relic as hers since it was in her waters, and Tom wasn't about to outswim her so he can't just take it without risking being eaten so they got left at a couple week long standstill that went from them threatening each other, to mild bickering, to enough of a friendship that Capsize offers to give the relic. Given that he's a devil and has grown to like her well enough, Tom offers to make it a deal and give her something in exchange. Capsize is hesitant, but asks for information on Redbeard. She explains that her brother was stolen by hunters, and she would like to know where he is and if he's even still alive. With the deal struck, Tom learns that Redbeard is alive, but not safe, which is bittersweet news to Capsize, though she still holds up her end of the deal. Tom, also not exactly stoked about what he's learnt, creates a second deal to give her a human form so she can come with him and save her brother, with no price on her end (well, he asks that she doesn't eat him, but he was pretty sure she wasn't going to do that regardless). Capsize wholeheartedly agreed and ended up deciding to stick with Tom afterwards since she became pretty fond of him.

starborne kingdom of dianite HC/AU aka i have constant mianite brain and need something to fill the lore void in my heart
Tumblr media
[ID: character map of the Mianite characters as starborne. Across the top from left to right is Mianite, Mot, Dianite, Patricia, Ianite and Spark. A pink arrow points down from Dia to Jordan. Purple arrows connect Jordan (counterclockwise) to Tom, Tucker, Sonja and Waglington. To the right of Jordan is Scott, below Ianite and Spark. Below Scott is Martha the Mystic and Prince Andor. to the right of Andor is Capsize, Skipper Redbeard and Rupert the Gray together. end ID.]
hi welcome to the brainrot dump. i have a lot of stuff but I'll try to keep it as coherent as I can. I've left out some details for plot related reasons and so I don't ramble on too much, but feel free to ask if anything's confusing aaaaaaaa please be nice also
This is essentially Origins lore that frames it as a Mianite alternate universe based on Jordan's canonical lore where OSMP!Jordan is the son of "Jack"/Dianite, king of all Starborne + Ianite and Mianite are Dia's right hands, Tiem Reester is together and well, Starwizards are a thing, c!Syndisparklez is canon, Capsize is a space kraken (glow squid), and the S2 gangs all here. (also disclaimer ive only seen about 70% of S2 so those characters are very transformed)
some stuffs inspired by @ingapotejtoo artz <3 and ft. the design for the queen and the "scott son of Ianite" element by RedTriangleRich on twitter! who are both very cool and I love so much <3
ay. lets gooo. time to be the historian i made my starsona out to be
Royal Court of the Starborne
Tumblr media
Consists of three siblings born from the first Ruler of the Stars- Mianite (the eldest, resembling an older star), Dianite, and Ianite (the youngest, resembling a new star) and their relations. Instead of the eldest being designated as the crown prince by the ruler at the time, it was designated by a red coloration shown at around 10-ish human years (time works differently on the Homeplanet), which happened to be the second born, Dianite.
Upon becoming king, Dianite designated his siblings as high class nobles, each having a jurisdiction over an element of the Starborne society- Mianite for infrastructure, and Ianite (later alongside her former mercenary- now husband Spark Conway from the moon-planet of Ruxomar (see below)) for history and the arts.
Dianite is married to Queen Khailani (name translated from this arbitrary language to the english name Petunia ) from the former kingdom of NVIDIA (now currently under the control of her EDIT: former lover who is secretly in alliance with the DMCA) who had been at war with Dianite's kingdom for years. The marriage was supposed to indicate a formal alliance between them, but most of the citizens view Pat as a traitor and still wreak havoc once in a while.
Dianite is also in a secret relationship with Mot, a Moonborne/former solider now groundskeeper cause Dia's relationship with the queen is very much open, i'm sure she's got people too wink wonk
Prince Jordan "Captain" Sparklez is the crown prince and son of Dianite (and someone not quite the queen) I don't have much lore for him since he's a canon character in Origins but I like to view him as a very insecure prince, one who is very skilled and can carry with him outward confidence but deep down is very scared, and isn't sure he's quite the guy for this job
Scott Smajor is the lost son of Ianite and Spark, currently living on the Overworld (as his canon character does). In summary, a surprise attack by NVIDIA led to him being flung into a wormhole at around 16ish Earth Years where he lived a nomadic life with a lost memory of the homeplanet before, yknow. origins During this time, he was presumed to be dead by Ianite, who went into a period of grief that led to her supernova-ing in the center of the city. Spark keeps hope, and hired Capsize and her crew to scour the galaxy to find him
Friends of The Prince
Tumblr media
Awe yeeee tiem reester is canon baby
In this universe, they're basically the prince's group of friends who he's known since the academy (and who only stick around cause he treats them as equal, and are some of the few starbornes who don't want to be friends with him just cause he's the prince). They get into shenanigans all the time and Sonja built them a little hangout room in the castle with Jord's permission
Tom Syndicate is a member of Dianite's royal guard, a "knights of the round table" kind of designation to the guardsmen that Dia considers the most loyal and he trusts (as they tend to be in closer quarters with the royal court). he's a funky little dude who's a Moonborne (see below in factz) and takes his job as Jordan's "official-unofficial bodyguard" very seriously and they definitely kiss also
Tucker Jeriicho is Mianite's "right hand man" and former solider turned war strategist cause he's just that good at what he does >:] He's practically at Mianite's side at all times, and to some extent is treated by Mianite as the son he never had.
Because Mianite is infrastructure, he works a lot with one of Mia's chief architect Sonja Firefoxx, a Sinnochait starborne (basically meanin she's got ears and a tail made of space lava matter) She works mainly on castle expansions and room design
Sonja works hand in hand with the Fyerians, a group of specialized Starborne builders capable of reality manipulation to create blocks from star matter- basically the wizards- Matt, Tom, Phil- from FyreUK
Waglington is considered a Fyerian, but is moreso a Starwizard, a different kind of star magic user where a solar flare embedded a more powerful form of the central star’s power into their core; they are capable of stronger attacks and regenerative magic. He helps Sonja with making mockups and also does his own little magic stuff with alchemy
Moonplanet of Ruxomar
Tumblr media
Within the solar system of the Homeplanet, there are other planets/bodies all under Dianite's jurisdiction, but ruled by lords/ladies, and Ruxomar is one of them. Ruled by Lord Helgrind (a gold colored moonborne) Ruxomar is considered a city of mercenaries and magicians, the most famous of such being the two children of Helgrind, Lady Martha and Sir Andor.
Martha is a Sinnochait (like Sonj) and a Starwizard and is known as a famous writer of starmagics, whose works Wag has been a longtime reader of. Due to of the rarity of Starwizards, she is the only other one he knows of. Andor, on the other hand is a feathered starborne and a very well trained archer. He's had his eyes on the royals for years, a little mystery ye for why
Space Pirates/Former DMCA agents
Tumblr media
The current enemies of Dianite's kingdom is DMCA Agency, a kingdom with close proximity to NVIDIA. However, due to the nature of the DMCA, many starborne/citizens defect- and most famously of them are Capsize and her brother Skipper Redbeard.
After having served in the DMCA's agency for years, Capsize led a revolution against the leaders and was permanently damaged while fighting against her ex-fellow guards, and has a scar that allowed the spirit of a space kraken (the space version of a glow squid) to enter her core during the clearing of the species from the kingdom. It basically became a part of her that she can basically 'summon". pretty fitting when she became a full time pirate for hire, and useful. Jordan finds it annoying though that the kraken lives on in her when they spent so long eradicating the species
Redbeard is a corrupted starborne; the particles flowing off the side of his face are alike to the tail of a comet- also a side effect from their altercation with guards.
Wears an eyepatch because he quite literally has no eye there anymore. Rupert wears an eyepatch in solidarity, and because the person they purchased it from was only selling it as a pair
Rupert the Grey is a pirate friend they met along the way and is made up of asteroids; could perhaps be considered a “Astroborne”; isn’t really the origin of a starborne as the others are
Random Starborne Factz (bonus for fun)
The Homeplanet is a nebulous; but solid planet like structure that encircles a Central Star, which gives the Starborne their power
When starborne are born, or after a temp death/supernova, energy from that central star (replicated by stars in the sky from origins canon) emits an energy force that uses a pseudo-type of gravity that holds their solid forms together (the stability of balance for the human-like appearance combined with the star matter)- This is what starwizards can manipulate for healing
Because of this, in the event of eclipses or solar flares, it effects that stability/the way of using that star energy. Eclipses result in a Moonborne (who are less stable in varying levels depending on the stage of the eclipse; more susceptible to damage) and solar flares are how Starwizards are born
any way thats it. wowza
