headcanon azula as gay does not make sense with her character. she is straight or bisexual not lesbian she wants a boyfriend you know. episode 'the beach' are azula's wants, wants that she cannot have because of how ozai raised her.

I think that all sexuality head canons for Azula are valid because she is a fictional cartoon character on a long over show. For me personally, it depends on the fanfic. I have enjoyed some fanfics that have Azula as bisexual or heterosexual. There is nothing wrong with interpreting her that way, or interpreting her interest in Chan as a genuine crush.

However, I think that another possible way to view it (& the way I have often written it in my fics) is that Azula’s interest in Chan was an incident of compulsive heterosexuality. We have to remember - “The Beach” WAS about Azula’s wants BUT there are different ways to interpret her “wanting” Chan. What did she really want from him? Azula in “The Beach” talks about wanting to be a normal girl. I believe that even if you choose to interpret Azula as straight or bi her behavior toward Chan implies that her interest in him was more about what he represented than Chan himself. He represented a normal teenage boy, & her kissing him was her trying to have a normal teenage girl moment, something she has never gotten to do.

I am not a lesbian but I have seen lesbian fans saying that they saw themselves & their experiences with compulsive heterosexuality in Azula’s behavior with Chan. I hope I’m not over stepping by pointing this out as a non-lesbian lesbian ally 💖

That doesn’t mean you’re not free to have a different interpretation (I’ve already said I’m open to different interpretations myself) but I disagree that it makes no sense. At the end of the day, Azula is just a fiction character & we’re all free to interpret her sexuality however we see fit for our fics & head canons 💖 Thank you for sharing your opinion!

Assuming that Shoto’s mom would also reject Azula, then she would think that following Endeavor was right as she’d be raised to think it was. She would probably be rejected as she got most of her quirk from Endeavor. I think Shoto would try to keep convincing Azula to follow him and also reject Endeavor, but she won’t because that’s the only affirmation Azula gets. So, in this AU, she still is raised like a weapon to beat All Might. So, her and Shoto would be sibling rivals.
