It's been a while since I posted anything! So sorry but I've been in a bit of creative funk and had to scrap a lot of the chapter I was working on so... I'm gonna post it here!
--
Context: Ayano is being discharged from the hospital after fainting due to stress. Her father is worried for her and she thinks back on a very specific memory of appeasing him as a child.
--
It took several more tests and evaluations before Ayano was finally released from the hospital. Her mother was, once again, roped into another meeting with Director Mukai and assured her family that they could leave without her.
The three idle outside the entrance of the hospital, her father carrying a bag of clothes in one hand and a paperbag full of books and other miscellaneous trinkets Ayano was gifted. Mukai Kinu was bashfully obvious with trying to win over the girl's affections,
She laughed off the concerns of the two, and gently patted them on the shoulders, affirming her initial offer,
"Now, now," she cooed, affection sparkling in her eyes. A wide grin blossomed on her lips, reaching her eyes with sheer delight. "I know today is our first day altogether out of the hospital, but duty calls! I'll have Mukai-kun drive me home and pay for some prime wagyu beef, doesn't that sound nice?"
Ayano isn't slow, she knows what her mother looks for with how she stares back, batting her lashes in am attempt to garner a favorable response. Her father is quick, a natural charmer when it came to Ryoba, and he utters a pathetic excuse of being concerned that maybe they should all take a night to relax. It's been so long, hasn't it? They've rarely had a chance to sit at the table and negotiate who gets to finish what side dish.
Ayano follows up, picking up the cue from her father's trailing pleas. She forces a heavy pout, eyes downcast, and as soon as she feels her mother's loving attention on her, she crosses her arms and turns away. Most parents would reprimand such insolence but Ryoba was an anomaly. She had no standard criteria. No control group to be compared to. Nothing. She was a being of whims and wants with no manual someone can pick up and read.
An adolescent of a parent with an ounce of normality would get scolded. But this was not that type of setting. Instead, Ryoba giggles, validating the poor acting, and gently kisses her daughter's temple. She's a woman who is not easily swayed and faulted to being amused than endeared.
"I wish you could act spoiled like this before you start high school," she sighs and her husband relents a nervous chuckle. "Maybe I'll also drop by Wakuri Bakery and pick up some cream puffs? I know my dearest Ayano's are the best but for now, you need to get reacquainted with our home after being away so long!"
She repeated her consolation until a man in a black suit arrived and cleared his throat. He was an older gentleman, clean shaven, with black hair swept over a pair of shades. His shoulders were broad and the way he stood made him appear bigger than he actually was for his average height. "Aishi-san," he calls, tapping on his wrist. A flash of light reflected on his watch, showing off a hint of his wage.
"Hmph!" Ryoba whines but laughs it off when the man refrains from flinching. "Oh you young blood," she chides and waves to her family. "Don't worry, my loves, just make sure not to eat too late!"
The two leave, approaching a loitering vehicle with the suit opening the passenger's door, waiting for Ryoba to slide in. She turns one last time and blows affectionate kisses to her husband and daughter and, finally, seats herself in the car. Visibly, the man's shoulders slack, and he hurries to the driver's seat. A few more seconds pass and the engine murmurs before the vehicle departs.
Ayano hears her father breathe out in an ironic mix of distress and relief. "How are you feeling, sweetie?" His tone is unsteady as his eyes are tracking the tail end of the car circling through the parking lot and entering the high way. "Mukai-sensei said everything was fine, great even, and praised how healthy you are... But, uh, how was your appetite? Was it okay? Did you eat enough?"
Her father danced around the worries of her well-being often. Meanwhile, Ryoba batted away such issues like they were someone else's problem or something absurd like the Aishi family's genes were above such trivial things like fevers. They both exercised caution of Ayano's health, leaving it to regular evaluations in school. There was never anything wrong outside of the mild concern that Ayano, as a growing child, didn't eat much compared to other children.
It wasn’t urgent nor something to worry about, but it left a gnawing feeling in his stomach. A worry that he once brought up when it was just him and a seven-year-old Ayano. They sat across each other at a quiet family restaurant. Laminated menus placed before them, wiped clean from previous diners, colorful to entice their childish patrons, and used silly names to further entrance curious eyes.
Sundae specials like 'A Berry Banana Bonanza' for a banana split chock-full of strawberries and raspberries; 'Choco-Mint Mayhem' where the sea green of mint was sprinkled with chocolate chunks and decorated with sticks of Pocky; and 'My Neopolitean Regime' is a strange name for a childish delight, what with its dedicated embodiment of its three flavors and candies that resided inside. It's supposed to be a statement, Ayano once thought, possibly one that denied dentists everywhere a smooth appointment.
Her father's eyes shone briefly after she rose her head, asking with eagerness if she wanted ice cream. She knows she needs to act spoiled, yanking at her father's shaky hands, and sobbing crocodile tears with a thousand pleases falling from her tongue. She knows he wants that, to witness an ounce of a normal child across him. She knows he is struggling, desperation the only thing he can feel when around his family.
She knows and yet, she can't act like what he wants. All she can do is pick up a mask that she made specifically for him and wear it while reciting a script. As the playwright, the producer, the actress, she performs and does it well.
"Daddy," she meekly began, batting her eyes like she's seen Midori do a thousand times. "Can I get the Neopolitean one?" She tapped her finger against the disgustingly bright photo of said dessert.
A smile escaped him and the crows feet around his eyes crinkle. "You can, but then you'll be too full for dinner," he gently reprimanded, relief flooding from his voice. His muscles loosen, as if something inside him unwound. "Can you promise me that you'll have room for some yummy dinner?"
Like he could breathe.
She figured this was enough for him to feel like this could be normal. So she nods, stubborn with cheeks puffed and brows furrowed, similar to Kuu who debated with her parents often. She'd fight for adding 'just one more book!' to the cart as they wandered from aisle to aisle in a bookstore. Funny faces seeped onto Kuu's parents' faces as though they were doing their best not to laugh, and were easily swayed by the soured look of their child. 'Okay,' they'd say with a shake of their head, 'just one more.'
So, as always, Ayano feeds off her companions' lives and processes it as artificially as possible.
"I promise!"
And that memory drifts into nothingness. Her stomach was too small to handle such a behemoth of a sundae and they wound up boxing it, brought it home, and had it as dessert for dinner. She recalled having stomach cramps but managed to hide it and finish dinner her mother crooned on about loving to make. Ayano excused herself to take a bath first and relished in the hot water for as long as she could.
Why would anyone want to eat more than one scoop of ice cream? Impossible. She felt her teeth decay at the thought of attempting it a second time.
And so, the feeling drifts again.
"Mukai-sensei made sure I've eaten everything on my plate," she assured, feigning bashfulness. "I might gain weight because of it..." Gingerly her hands pat at her nearly nonexistent flab. She always worked out, not even thinking about it, scultped by her mother's designed lifestyle. Her posture was always upright, she did light cardio, she put her all into physical education, and was on constant alert. If anything, the pink-haired nurse commented how Ayano had a surprising amount of muscle for someone who wasn't part of an athletic club.
"It's almost as if you're training to join a sports meet!"
It was a kind observation. Something someone innocent, ignorant, of the world would assume. Or someone normal.
Her father cracked a smile, crows feet prominent.

Don't Bring a Knife to a Quirk Fight
Don't Bring A Knife to A Quirk Fight (Unless You're Karma or Full of Spite.) by MiraclesInJuly, Purple Touch
"Kacchan…. Do you know what it means to let someone die?" "But he's training to be an assassin, not a hero, they are very different roles…" "That's what you think! I think he'll do nicely. Honestly! just be glad you guys didn't get the sadistic one." "The what one?"" "Say Shigaraki, though your body count is fair as your hands are red, I wonder if you truly understand what it means to kill?" "Huh, would you look at that, even the likes of you get to be heroes? What a joke!" "Assassination goes way beyond killing you know? I'm also a hero-in-training and a student. What kind of assassin will I be if I can't play all my roles well?" "Holy fuck who is that?" "Oh, that's my cousin Karma." "You didn't tell us you have a hot cousin?!"

*grins ear to ear*
I am writing one! Still in draft conditions though~
Makoto coming back after her one week survey work and following the arc letter's guide and instructed by Professor Laventon to Pesselle because of a horde of Paras-
And also, it's a slingshot! I always mixed up the two (but it is possible to use natural catapults, a.k.a tree branches. No Pokemons hovering and flying in the sky will be safe from her)
Wanna meet her team? Here are her buddies from the beginning of the story!
- Oshawott = Kenshin
- Kirlia = Tennin
- Alpha Luxio = Shogun
And here are her late story buddies:
- Samurott (Hisuian) = Kenshin
- Gardevoir = Tennin
- Alpha Luxray = Shogun
- Zoroark (Hisuian) = Kiku
- Drifblim = Tombo
- Togekiss = Benten
- Garchomp = Kurao
- Sylveon = Fuwa
- Sneasler = Gotenno
More Mavolo/Volokoto/unspokentaskshipping crumbs:
Volo's red flag was raised when Akari asked Makoto about her whereabouts around the Turnback Cave, and when she admitted that she occasionally visited the place countless times before she began to notice the silence...he began to be more cautious. His mind ran around with warnings when Makoto asked him about the topic, "everyone said the Turnback Cave gave off an ominous aura, I can't say that they're false but it's odd to find it rather silent. Do you happen to know any mythical Pokemons related to it?" he thought she's onto him but in reality she's just oblivious and genuinely curious. Shakes off the topic when she noticed his discomfort this leads to nowhere understanding the guide arc letter gave her
-🦀 anon
OSHAWOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Mine’s named Oliver :)
Also, I demand a link to the fic once you're done. I demand it (if you're okay with sharing it with me).
Also, oooooooh. Makoto is so mysterious to everyone, they're all suspicious, but Makoto is just like "pls i just needed the quiet, just for a moment" /j
jokes aside, i really love the story you're building here! And i'm excited to read what you write, if you let me!

Honestly…
… Okay.
I am… Not in a good mood.
I’ve said before, I have very little interest in Yua as a character (her being a Rider who is female and the tertiary are very separate from how I actually feel about her character in the narrative—despite not much caring for her, if I were to ever rewrite Zero-One, I wouldn’t actually change the character (though I’d have her actually develop more relationships), bc my disinterest in her isn’t bc she’s a ‘bad character’ it’s just that she’s not a character that interests me). Her place as 4.5 on my character list is largely bc I have no real personal complaints about her.
But can I just say. Wtf.
Look, they could have made that make sense? If they’d. You know. Actually. Had her and Jin. Interact properly? And develop? THEY’VE HARDLY SPOKEN.
Literally, she had, like, a small handful of scenes w/ Izu at the start of the show, and those were MILES more development of a relationship than anything we’ve had between her and Jin. It’s the same thing as w/ Aruto trusting Jin w/ Fuwa—I’m left wondering if I’ve been watching a different show, whether I missed an episode. A scene.
His father gets painfully possessed by a homicidal satellite right in front of him, and while him being in shock is one thing, snapping out of it to be more concerned about some human he’s spoken to all of… Three times? What?
I never had any sense of them having any sort of connection. I was all for Yua being the mom of the group (this imaginary family needs a mom), but she never interacted enough w/ Jin for me to make anything more than half hearted jokes. This makes no sense???
Also for that matter, bc I know I sound really negative on her, way to sideline Yua, for chrissakes. They were doing so decently, too. Like, do not get me wrong, this isn’t me saying I would never want her to have a relationship w/ mbjr. Like I said, I was super ready for her to be the terse, serious mom of this wild, messed up, giant robo-human family (we have two dads, and uncle, and one Naki, we need a mom). But they never allowed her to really develop any relationship outside of Fuwa. And Fuwa and Yua’s relationship was important, yes, but… They kinda poked at her and Aruto and her and Izu at the beginning, but that quickly got sidelined. She gets a lot of really powerful, meaningful development w/ Fuwa (and I adore Fuwa, he’s one of my faves), and then I was curious/apprehensive to see what they’d do w/ her and mbjr, but… There was nothing? Just a few quick scenes that were either jokes or that particular brand of Takahashi that does not come across as emotional development to me. This alleged rapport between her and Jin just… Comes out of nowhere. I saw not even the slightest hint of it. If they wanted me to find this believable, they should have like… Properly interacted??? There should have been dramatic moments of them secretly meeting up, like how Yua used to report to Gai?
Like. Let’s compare and contrast those two things. Yua’s status as a spy and connection to Gai (well, we didn’t know his name, then), was hinted at early and regularly. Even if they were short scenes, we got shady shots of her ‘reporting in,’ revealing some secret info. It was carefully lampshaded and built up. When the reveal happened, it felt real, and interesting.
This was not built up. Everything about this just feels like Takahashi saying ‘fucking actually developing relationships.’
Jin, who still has a very young, naive mentality, gets over seeing his father rather horrifically possessed by a homicidal satellite to start yelling encouragement at Yua, who he barely knows. In the entire scene post his initial ‘Horobi’ before he runs out there, there’s absolutely no sign of concern or fear for his father. Instead he’s transforming side by side w/ Yua like they’re best buds, not even hesitating to attack, and he seems more concerned w/ protecting her (I call crap on the fact that she had to ~get hurt~ and ~need protection~ too—also nice to see my dread predictions still come true, Yua ends up in the bloody hospital. At leats they didn’t make him ‘moon around her bed’ for too long, though I haven’t gotten there yet) then the fact that his father has just been painfully possessed by a homicidal satellite. Esp one that has made it clear she doesn’t care for Horobi’s life one jot.
Seriously. W. T. F.
Jin had more relationship development w/ Aruto than w/ Yua.
And coming from me, that’s saying something about how I feel about this.

can you share more about your sfh fics 'another drunk mj' and 'kidnapper mj'? <333
Hello friend! Thank you so much for asking! hehe
Another drunk!MJ
There are times when I was so obsessively thinking about drunk!Moonjo, and it manifested as me writing bunch of stuffs. It's post-canon in which they have already became lovers! I really haven't think about the background or the plot or anything except the feeling of warmth I want them to exude haha. You can read it here if you want hehe
Kidnapper!MJ
In this AU the relationship between Jongwoo and Moonjo is almost lover-like. They're not official yet, but the skinship and the closeness and pretty much everything else that's going on between them indicates that they are, in fact, lovers (tho not the gentle all fuwa fuwa kind of lovers ksksksksk). But for some reason, one day, Jongwoo finds himself tightly tied up on a chair, in an unknown empty room, blindfolded. You can read the first draft here if you want hehe
Honestly I don't know where this is going. I just wanted Moonjo to put his head gently on bondaged Jongwoo's lap xD I also plan to make Kihyuk alive, to make him the reason Moonjo has to kidnap Jongwoo. Tho he does manipulate Kihyuk to try to harm Jongwoo just so he can have Jongwoo all for himself :D

Warnings: fluff, slight spice (things get a bit heated here UwU) idk, slight angst, SPOILERS FOR THE KIMETSU MANGA
Tumblr media
Zenitsu had a question plaguing his mind ever since (y/n) (l/n) came into his life. Not that he didn’t try wooing her and asking her to marry him, no, she turned him down rather decently and kindly, which forced him to think of her as a good friend. She was a demon slayer herself, having hailed from the same training that Kanao went through.
As sweet and loving as she was, (y/n) could be just as violent; albeit, Zenitsu and the gang had only seen this side when she fought demons. Her violence was through a silent battle that she knew she would win, and her swordplay was fascinating to the eye. Her mother was a dancer, somewhat similar to Tanjiro’s father, and her mother had taught her everything she needed to know about dance.
However, life wasn’t too kind. (y/n) lost her mother when she was 12 and had been training under Shinobu to become a demon slayer since. She had learned the breath of the flower from Shinobu, but developed her own style scheme by performing different moves through dance. It was, to say the least, impressive.
(y/n) and Inosuke shared a rather weird relationship.
The first time they met was in between their missions. All four of them were surrounded by a total of seven demons. Inosuke stepped in wanting to be the one to take down everyone, but quietly, (y/n) held him back (almost yelled at but the second Inosuke’s gaze met hers, he grew strangely quiet, which was unlike him).
“We need to plan this out. When you’re cornered, you don’t attack head-on. That’s suicide.”
She turned to Inosuke’s mask and grinned, “You’re better alive than dead, right?”
Zenitsu didn’t miss the fuwa fuwa that came out of his boar friend right then, but he was shitting his pants for something else entirely. It was after that did she introduce herself, rather peppily, and seemed like the most happy-go-lucky person they had ever laid their eyes on. Inosuke seemed particularly soft with her, which was very unlike him, but no one made any comment about it.
“So Inosuke, why did you become a demon slayer?” (y/n) asked, with a chirpy voice.
Zenitsu and Tanjiro watched as the white puffballs around Inosuke grew in number but the male grunted and walked away, leaving (y/n) there with a confused but happy smile.
     “What happened?”
Zenitsu hit himself on the forehead.
The thing that Zenitsu’s mind was plagued with was this: How would Inosuke behave if he was in love with someone?
For this, he’d need to understand how animals behaved. When an animal finds a potential mate, the male of the species would perform a series of activities in order to impress the female of the species. Like, in birds, the male bird would perform a wide range of dance moves or hops to impress the female, who would display her interest by signalling in and chirping accordingly.
Cut to what they were doing a few weeks ago. They were at the butterfly estate, all four of them, and Tanjiro and (y/n) were talking about him selling charcoal for a living. She was a good listener, and for Tanjiro, it was nice to be heard for a change. Perhaps, in Inosuke’s mind, Tanjiro was another male boar, showcasing his skills (Zenitsu wondered if ‘kindness’ can count as a skill) and (y/n) was considering him. Inosuke however, had a better skill—brisk loudness, and the ability to have anyone’s eye on him for longer durations of time because he was just that distracting.
     “(y/n)!”
Ah yes, he also never forgot her name for a strange reason, but she only thought that was because he didn’t deem her a threat.
(y/n) were right, in a way.
She turned her head toward Inosuke who was holding his two swords near the courtyard. Zenitsu stood a few feet away from where (y/n) and Tanjiro sat, and watched with an unimpressed expression on his face. This wasn’t amusing in the slightest for the blond, for he had seen men pile up over women and behave in a way they otherwise wouldn’t do. But, in Inosuke’s case, it was definitely...weird.
Upon receiving (y/n)’s attention, Inosuke flipped his blades around in the air and did a few stunts, causing (y/n)’s eyes to widen with absolute amusement. Tanjiro smiled a tad bit, before turning to a disgruntled Zenitsu, and understanding thus what was going on.
“Whoa, that’s amazing, Inosuke!” (y/n) said, clapping her hands together.
Tanjiro noticed the white fluff balls come out of the boar boy’s head as his actions suddenly stopped. He might have been raised an animal, but Tanjiro’s heart melted at the realization that Inosuke craved the feelings of attention and kindness from people around him, just as much as he wanted to prove himself superior. Inosuke felt a range of things with the two of them, but with (y/n), he certainly felt softer. And whatever the reason might be, Tanjiro believed his friend deserved it—the boy was pure at heart.
Coming back to the theory Zenitsu had. Tanjiro approached the boy that evening before having a quick word with him over Inosuke’s obsession with impressing you. Both of them knew that it was more than a crush, but it was also quite out of character. While Tanjiro could swallow Inosuke’s need to be softer with her, Zenitsu thought Inosuke believed it was a competition.
“Well,” Tanjiro pondered, “It might be, in his head. That was how he was raised and that’s how he thinks? Maybe, if we don’t prove a threat to him, he’ll learn better on understanding how to communicate his feelings.”
Zenitsu scoffed, “That idiot won’t know what feelings are if it hit him on his face like a brick. He thinks like an animal!”
Tanjiro chuckled, “Doesn’t mean animals can’t love,” He turned to spot Inosuke and (y/n) in an animated conversation about butterflies, “Most often, they love better than the rest of us.”
Therefore, the two of them decided to watch Inosuke. Zenitsu did it for his own amusement, but Tanjiro enjoyed merely understanding his friend’s nature. There were three things that Inosuke had to fall under if he were in love with (y/n)—and this was all based on observation. Tanjiro knew how animals thought and behaved to a fair extent, and with his knowledge, analysing Inosuke’s behavior around her seemed like the perfect study.
#1. One mate is territorial over the other.
Zenitsu approached (y/n) one evening, wanting to call her over for dinner. She turned to the blond before waving at him, and having him sit beside her.
“Hi, Zenitsu-kun. Is there something you need?”
He wondered where his boar friend was at that second. There was no point to this exercise if Inosuke wasn’t around. Not that he minded having a conversation with (y/n), she was sweet. He turned to her after realizing Inosuke wasn’t around and wondered what she thought of him.
“So, Inosuke,” She blinked at his words, “He’s weird, right?”
“Not at all. I think he’s really sweet.”
Zenitsu blinked, “Really? Even though he doesn’t understand a lot of social cues? It’s because he was raised in the mountains—”
“I find that bit fascinating, actually. Even though he was raised in the mountains, he’s so kind.”
“How is he kind?” Zenitsu grumbled.
(y/n) blinked at the blond’s question.
     “Do you...not like Inosuke-kun?”
Zenitsu shook his head, “It’s not like that, I just think he’s too much sometimes. Abrasive and rash—it’s like taking care of a loud kid!”
She giggled, “I like that about him! Keeps things lively.”
Zenitsu wasn’t sure now on who the weird one was. With (y/n) defending Inosuke like her life depended on it, it was certain that even she had a soft spot for the boy. But, he couldn’t tell if it was built out of sympathy or romantic feelings like he had. She was just kind, maybe, she defended Zenitsu behind his back (although this thought made him swoon on the inside).
“Where is he anyway?” (y/n) grumbled, frowning a bit.
It was at that second when Tanjiro came to the courtyard. (y/n) greeted the brown haired boy before blinking up at him.
     “Tanjiro-kun, have you seen Inosuke-kun?”
Tanjiro hummed before saying, “Hm, I think he left with Kanao-chan somewhere?”
Zenitsu ‘ah’ed before understanding where the boar boy had gone now. Kanao and Inosuke had been training together for a bit, it wasn’t strange since Inosuke always wanted to get stronger than the others. With Tanjiro having beaten Kanao in that little game, Inosuke wanted to do the same. The boy thought everything was a competition.
     “Oh?”
Tanjiro almost didn’t notice it, but it was good that he was great at capturing certain scents. Growing up with so many siblings had him understand how to differentiate between the scents of various emotions. When (y/n) stood up, waved to them and left, Tanjiro chuckled, catching Zenitsu’s attention. He wasn’t always certain about a lot of things, but he was sure that he had caught the right scent here.
     “What’s so funny?”
It was the scent of jealousy, he thought before shaking his head.
#2.  One mate tries to impress the other by being the best they can be.
Zenitsu hated missions, and he especially hated them when he had to go with Inosuke. However, the only thing holding his sanity together was that (y/n) had offered to tag along—since her crow was nowhere to be found. Inosuke was thrilled and secretly so was the blond, because now Inosuke seemed controllable. He didn’t know how it worked, but he was glad that it did.
They were to head to a village to find a demon behind a few missing people. Apparently, these people headed to work one day and never returned—and this being near a river, there were chances that this demon resided under water.
     “Can you swim, (y/n)-chan?”
“Yes, actually. I didn’t learn it the easy way, though. Shinobu-san basically threw me into the river and forced me to learn the hard way.” She said, dejectedly.
“When you’re about to drown, your body learns to float!” Inosuke yelled, catching your attention.
“Y-Yeah, I mean, I was the first one to learn too! Inosuke, I also know what plants you can eat from under water!”
     “You can eat underwater plants?!”
“Yes! I’ll show you someday! When they’re added into your food, it’s so delicious!”
He couldn’t understand where the fuwa fuwa was coming from now—Zenitsu noticed that the fluffballs were everywhere. He wasn’t sure which mate was trying to impress the other here.
Tanjiro, Zenitsu thought, who exactly is the animal here?
He normally never did this, but Zenitsu was curious beyond belief! Therefore, he shut his eyes, paused for a brief moment and let his ears do the detective work. All he could hear were sounds of two hearts fluttering in harmony, an image stuck to his brain that he couldn’t wipe off (and if he was a softer, more mature individual, he would admit that the image was a rather sweet one), but Zenitsu being Zenitsu hated the fact that his mountain boy friend was in love with a sweet crackhead like (y/n)—who in retaliation was in love with a mountain boy as well.
#3. A manner of softness not seen anywhere else.
It was strange to see Inosuke being quiet—it was either only when he was in deep sleep or deep thought (which was very, very rare indeed). However, the mountain boy grew quiet a lot these days; especially because (y/n) hung out a lot whenever the boys were around. He’d watch her, observing her movements, trying to replicate whatever ‘decent’ moves she made like trying to eat with chopsticks or not wearing the mask as much when she’s around.
In all honestly, it was quite evident that Inosuke tried being a human being around her and it was sweet, Tanjiro noted, that he’d try so hard to accommodate to (y/n).
However, Zenitsu didn’t think it was sweet. He wanted to vomit inside his mouth each time he thought of the boar boy being in love, particularly because it was the sort of love that was rare even for civilized people. The blond always had trouble finding people who accepted him for being who he was, and here was someone like Inosuke—whose personality was somehow revered instead of being shunned.
What the hell is going on? He thought, grumbling, as he witnessed (y/n) crawl over to Inosuke, as if to sneak up on the boy. Normally, Zenitsu would have yelled and alerted his friend, but he just didn’t care anymore—it was comical, and he’d let it be.
“Inosuke!” (y/n) pounced on the boar boy from the back, tackling him to the ground, surprising him.
Inosuke blinked, his face a dark red, before screaming in playful anger.
“What the hell are you doing?!”
     “Fight me!”
Inosuke’s eyes widened just for a brief moment before he growled and tackled her back, causing her to giggle and try to escape the boar boy’s advances. Now, he was chasing her around the estate, something little animals do when they play with one another. Tanjiro smiled at the sight before Zenitsu noticed fluffballs come around him.
I’ve had enough of this.
Walking over to his boar friend, he grabbed the boy from the back of his mask before yanking it off in one go. Inosuke would never mind beating the living daylight out of his blond friend, but the expression Zenitsu had just then caused him to still his movements. (y/n) paused before blinking up at Zenitsu, tilting her head slightly at the sudden halt.
     “Zenitsu-kun? Is something wrong?”
     “You two are what’s wrong!”
Inosuke growned, “What? You wanna—”
“NO! I don’t want to fight! Do you honestly not see what’s going on here?!”
(y/n) giggled before saying, “Inosuke and I are just fooling around—”
     “I thought we were fighting—”
“We are, but it isn’t a fight where we hurt each other.”
“Yes! I was thinking the same thing!”
Zenitsu slapped his forehead. He pointed to Inosuke and then pointed to (y/n). Tanjiro approached them before placing a calm hand on his blond friend.
“You are clearly in love with her and you are clearly in love with him!”
Inosuke didn’t look like he understood what Zenitsu had blurted out, but (y/n) was civilized where Inosuke wasn’t and just then Zenitsu had called her out rather harshly—but, it was the kind of harsh that was perhaps justified. Her eyes widened and she turned to spot Inosuke grab the blond and put him in a choke hold, but her movements stilled. She looked up to Tanjiro who gave her a kind smile before she bit her lip.
Of course she knew she loved Inosuke. Of course, she wasn’t blind. Ever since she first laid eyes on the beast boy, her mind was picked, her heart was his, and her body did things on its own—wanting to impress him, wanting to stand out and make sure Inosuke remembers her name instead of anyone else’s; she wanted to be special to him, and from all her tries, she was bound to know that her feelings for him were nothing short of romantic.
However, could he perceive romance? Could Inosuke know what these feelings were and could he act on them? Was she the only one making the effort here? She turned to spot Inosuke fighting with Zenitsu the same way he was fighting with her and she began to wonder, ‘What if I’m actually no different?’
Tanjiro smelled the sudden hesitance radiating off of her, but before she could get anywhere, he approached her.
“(y/n)-chan, I’m sure Inosuke feels the same way—”
“Tanjiro-kun,” (y/n) wasn’t sure where the sudden hesitance grew inside her. “I just... I need to figure some things out on my own before I...” She turned to spot Inosuke taking off his mask, growling at the blond.
She gave him a soft smile, confusing the hell out of him, before walking back inside the estate.
“Where’s she going?” Inosuke asked, blinking at her retrieving figure.
Tanjiro turned to his friend, curious.
“What do you feel for (y/n)-chan, Inosuke?”
     “HAH?”
“That’s what I’ve been trying to get him to talk about! But he keeps tackling me!” Zenitsu yelled from the background.
“What feel for her? She’s (y/n)!”
Tanjiro’s eyes widened almost comically at how Inosuke remembered her name so accurately.
“Why do you remember her name so well?”
     “She’s important!”
Tanjiro blinked some more, “Important how?”
Inosuke growled, losing interest in this conversation, “(y/n) is...” He couldn’t find her and that bothered him. He looked to where she had gone off to before frowning some more.
“Inosuke,” Tanjiro’s soft voice broke his reverie. “Do you love her?”
He didn’t know what love was, but there were a few things Inosuke was sure of. Whenever he saw (y/n), he wanted to be around her more—just like the pair of wolves he had come across as a child. The male wolf would wind its neck under the female’s whenever it was cold, and it was something Inosuke saw himself doing with her, and no one else. He remembered the swans dancing around in the water with one another, attaching themselves by every inch of their feathers and Inosuke wanted nothing more than to learn how her skin felt against his.
He recalled the group of monkeys that was led by a strong male and a fat female, which was fat because the male had given her his babies. One day, Inosuke dreamed of having little Inosuke babies with (y/n).
If this was what love was then what Inosuke felt for (y/n) was much, much more.
Growling, he ran off to where (y/n) might have gone, and noticed you sitting by the engawa. Taking off his mask, Inosuke sat beside her without warning, and noticed her red face. His eyes widened when he saw that expression on (y/n)—and all the thoughts he had were starting to vanish. Sure, the animals looked happy and did things he wanted to do, but no animal could compare to how beautiful she looked right then. He gulped before leaning closer to her, smelling her face—unsure of what to do at a time like this. Inosuke didn’t want to scare her, but he was confident that she would not be scared.
Zenitsu did not count a fourth thing that Inosuke would fall under if he was in love. The ability to change and adapt for a certain someone.
“Inosuke, do you... do you know what love is?”
He didn’t, and he sure as hell was scared to tell her that he had no idea.
“What I feel for you... I want to be around you all the time. I want to hold your hand and... and hold you in my arms and touch your hair—”
Inosuke grabbed (y/n)’s hand forcefully before placing it on his hair, but paused when he noticed her wince.
     “Did I hurt you?”
(y/n) smiled warmly, her heart beating rapidly as she shook her head, “I’m not sure if you know what love is, Inosuke...”
He frowned, “I don’t know what to tell you.”
He was an animal, born and raised in conditions that other people could have perhaps not survived. There was very little he knew about the ways of how human beings displayed affection. However, there was one way he was sure of—one way that could perhaps show her what he felt. Prove to her that whatever this love emotion was, it had nothing on him.
Because what Inosuke felt for (y/n) was far, far stronger than some stupid emotion.
He leaned forward and kissed her, grabbing the back of her hair. (y/n) had no idea where he had learned how to kiss, and even if he knew what this meant, but a second later, Inosuke’s tongue darted downwards to her neck, biting it lightly, marking the texture of her soft skin. His hand was firm behind her head and he pulled lightly, pressing her to him—before leaning back and capturing her lips again.
(y/n)’s eyes were wide and she was almost breathless; unsure of how to react, her hands slowly travelled to his hair and she buried her fingers in his hair, marvelling at how soft his locks were. She kissed back slowly, and did not miss the passion Inosuke brought forth with what he was doing. Once again, he pulled away before reaching her collarbone and biting lightly. The second (y/n) let out a soft moan, Inosuke stopped.
     “Do you feel warm?”
Her face rivalled a spider lily. Of course she felt warm!
Inosuke looked at her and smirked, “A male marks his female, in the mountains, this is how beasts mark their mates.”
(y/n)’s eyes widened. Mate? She blinked before grabbing his face and studying it, almost enthralled with what she had learned.
“Inosuke, there is so much you need to learn!”
But, the second she thought of how his tongue travelled to her neck and collarbone, maybe, he didn’t have to learn much after all.
*
When Inosuke’s firstborn son turned out to be a bit timid, Inosuke acquired the ability—acting out on empathy. (y/n) watched him, hold his five-year old son after the boy had fallen off a small tree and hurt his knee.
“This is going to sting,” Inosuke said, before putting some pressure on to the little boy’s wound, along with a raw medicine he had made to prevent any infection.
The boy cried instantly, which caused Inosuke to turn to (y/n), who was cradling their third born daughter, with a smile on her face. He wouldn’t reveal to a great many people that watching his son wince and cry hurt his chest more than anything ever had, but watching (y/n) smile back at him, as he sat there with a smile on his face made him appreciate everything that was soft in the world.
He had stopped asking people to fight him because honestly, it turned exhausting. After having three children, Inosuke had had enough—he wanted to mellow down and sit back, smell his wife’s hair and watch their children grow. He often wondered how Tanjiro and the others were doing, and he thought of how the life in the city was not one for him at all. He hoped that their paths would cross one day, but turning to (y/n), as their youngest daughter cooed in (y/n)’s arms, Inosuke was at peace.
“What are you staring at!? Fight me!”
Inosuke narrowed his eyes and turned to his three-year old girl, whose expressions and personality rivalled his own. He heard (y/n) chuckle from the back before ignoring her and getting up, grabbing the little girl by her ankle and having her dangle upside down.
     “This—”
     “Stop it, runt.”
Oh, but he would not deny how much he adored that feisty little spirit of hers. She growled before pinching her father’s hold, causing him to abruptly let her go, as she landed on the ground with a ‘thud’. She got back up and rushed to her father, hands around his neck, Inosuke grumbling before picking her up. If only he had understood that his cries ‘fight me’ were a sign of being touch-starved, he’d have avoided a great many unnecessary fights.
     “Let me go—”
     “Shut up.”
Inosuke’s hand wrapped around his small daughter’s form before running it up and down on her back, calming her down. The child’s eyes widened before she quieted down, and returning her father’s embrace.
A small tug at his sleeve made him look at his son now, who gave him a needy look as well. Inosuke knelt down and picked up his boy, before hugging both of them, standing like a tree in the middle of the house.
“Never thought you’d turn into such a softie, Inosuke!” (y/n) giggled, before expecting a shout or a loud comeback.
Instead, her eyes widened when she saw him smile at her, each hand cradling his children, as he watched her, with the softest eyes he could conjure.
Honestly, she could never let down the way he told her he loved her each day, not through words, not through mindless actions, but merely by looking at her like his entire life belonged to her. For a man raised in the mountains, Inosuke knew how to love better than the rest of humanity itself.
If only Zenitsu could see the man now, she thought, chuckling.

Nagisa Friendships That Butter My Croissant
So Sugino x Nagisa is my BrOTP (I stan those baby bois so much) and a very close second is Isogai x Nagisa (despite that friendship getting like no screen time). And here are the other platonic Nagisa relationships that I’m really into (I’m just ranting here so things may not make sense, oops):
Fuwa: I’ve made headcanons about this before but Fuwa and Nagisa are like the ultimate Otaku x Superhero fan friendship. I have a friend that is literally so into my ships just because I get so hyped about them and she’s not even in the same fandom as me - that’s them. Catch these guys watching fandom conspiracy theories and texting each other like
Nagisa: Okay but what if Ross is secretly working with Hydra?
Fuwa: *closes her manga, despite knowing nothing about the MCU* Tell me everything.
They would get really into each other’s fandoms and have Sherlock marathons. Have def cosplayed as Sherlock and Watson at one point. Nagisa tries (key word: tries) to tone down Fuwa’s chaoticness but she is a force that can’t be contained. They just love and care for each other so much and Fuwa would unleash hell on anyone that would make her buddy sad
Maehara: I’ve got a thing for Maeiso being Nagisa’s protective older brothers (even though they’re both younger than him) - mainly due to a pic I saw on Pinterest a few months back. (I’ve actually got a Maeiso + Nagisa fic in my drafts so wink wink). But yeah, Maehara and Nagisa is basically the cool, popular, confident kid and the shy, nervous sweetie pie and their dynamic is really interesting. It’s canon that Maehara is really affectionate with Nagisa (he ruffles his hair, hugs him, punches his shoulder) and really praises him and I see Nagisa looking up to him because Nagisa admires confident people (ie: Karma, Kataoka). IDK how to explain it but I see their friendship as something that’s really sweet - with Nagisa seeing Maehara as someone he can laugh around with and Maehara just hyping Nagisa up. Oh yeah, Maehara totally flirts with him like all the time and Nagisa either doesn’t get it or just blushes - and Maehara also totally has a habit of doing impromptu ballroom dances for fun
Terasaka: OH YES! I LIVE FOR TERASAKA AND NAGISA FRIENDSHIPS YOU HAVE NO IDEA! GIVE ME THE TOUGH GUY WHO ACTS LIKE A JERK BUT IS SECRETLY A SWEETHEART AND THE SWEET LITTLE BEAN THEY WOULD KILL FOR! So I see them as having a big and little brother relationship (Terasaka has a younger sister so he already knows how to be a protective older brother) with Terasaka finding Nagisa ‘annoying’ because our cutie patootie is always so nice and sweet and kind and forgiving but if anyone looks at Nagisa wrong, Terasaka will sock ‘em into next week because ‘that’s my classmate a*hole’. And yeah, I just live for Nagisa being adopted by the Terasaka gang like Itona because why not?
Hazama: Apart from the obvious, I think that the two of them like to hang out because they are both gothic literature nerds (my headcanon is that English loving Nagisa is a total  English lit nerd - no, I’m not projecting onto him). They drink tea and have deep and meaningful conversations. It’s cool.
Okajima: If you’ve read my fic ‘Group Chat Time’ on AO3, you could kind of tell that Okajima x Nagisa is kind of a crack ship of mine. IDK I think that they’d have a cute relationship, can’t really explain it. And since I’ve taken to the genderfluid!Okajima like a duck to water. I can see the two of them talking about gender and sometimes when Nagisa goes on overnight trips, his mom packs a skirt so Okajima takes it, wears it and shows it off to everyone like a model.
Kurahashi: PURE BEANS BEING PURE. Nagisa can be pessimistic at times so Kurahashi’s bubbly attitude always lifts him up. They go on bug watching adventures and Nagisa takes down notes because he loves learning. They also have like 20 origami animal children that they are very proud parents of.
Asano:  ALRIGHT I KNOW. But hear me out. Sweet, kind Nagisa and the ice prince of Kunugigaoka, like yes. Like a Romeo and Juliet star-crossed lovers thing but platonically. Nagisa’s cinnamon rolliness somehow finding a way to make friends with Asano is my guilty pleasure, alright. And cue the disbelief and the outrage and E-Class threatening to castrate and disembowel the student council president? Gimme!

UwU would like to hear your thoughts on Irina civil war
Nao! (I’m so sorry, this is so late. It got buried in my drafts ihhhhh)
Ah yes: one of my favorite Civil War concepts 😤
So basically the class would be split in:
A) Allow Irina to stay in the class. She’s young, has lived a very traumatized life...she deserves a second chance.
B) Hell no. She tried to kill us, she betrayed us. I don’t feel comfortable being around her.
I mean, those are the basics. All of this is way more nuanced than that.
Side A would bring up the argument that Irina was stuck in a tough position herself. She was heartbroken, vulnerable, and you can’t exactly say no to the Reaper. He would have killed her immediately. She was trying to protect herself too.
Side B would say to keep in mind that things had gone well for few months...like Irina was getting adjusted to the class and truly seemed like she cared for them. And then she betrayed them...they almost died. That 180 switch in how she treated them...how can they trust her again?? How do they know this won’t happen again no matter what she says??
Both sides have understandable views on the matter. Unfortunately they both feel that the other is either invalidating their feelings...or being plain cruel.
Tumblr media
THE SNIPERS ARE SPLIT UP FOR ONCE OOOOOOOOHHHHH. Yeah I bet y’all weren’t expecting that hehehe.
Side A: Irina, stay with us!
Her trusted students: Yada and Kurahashi. They both are fiercely protective of her return to the class and are the most vocal in their opinions.
Terasaka...he was the first one to forgive her in canon and I think that’s very true to his character. After his redemption, he wants to give others a chance...just like how everyone gave him one.
In a similar vein to him, Kayano also knows that she’s far from being a perfect person...in fact the guilt from the tentacles is always in the back of her mind, even if her desire for revenge far outweighs it. She believes it’s only fair to give Irina another chance.
Also similar to both of them is Itona, who also feels weighed down at times by his past actions. He knows he had a rocky start to the class...and so he feels it’s not really his place to just write Irina off. He feels a bit of solidarity between their experiences as well: they’re pretty similar ngl.
Okano, Kataoka, and Nakamura also were some of Irina’s fave students. And although they don’t feel as strongly as Yada and Kurahashi, they are attached to her...and want her to stay as their teacher in the family they’ve built in 3-E.
With Kanzaki...she’s naturally an open-minded person. And in regards to this, I think she could easily find it in herself to forgive Irina and understand why it all happened. She’s good at including every detail, analyzing situations and seeing things from Irina’s point of view. (Haha our literature nerd cutie)
Takebayashi has a similar case to many above: he’s betrayed the class himself (although on a way lesser scale). But he gets it: and he thinks Irina deserves the same kindness that was shown to him.
Maehara and Okajima are both pretty lighthearted and forgiving guys. This situation hits them both hard and they have a difficult time deciding...but ultimately they believe Irina really does care for the class. And that the last months they spent with her meant something.
Kimura...has a somewhat skewed sense of justice, due to personal things (cough his dad cough). And he does A LOT of reflection after everything. And as scary as it was...he decides that Irina can redeem herself. Even though he hates her boob lessons...she’s still his teacher who’s taught their class so much and was apart of their family.
Chiba is a naturally kind and empathetic person. I think once he really sits down and processes what Irina went through, the logistics of the situation, just so many nuances...he can find it in himself to give her a second chance.
Side B: Irina, get out of here!
Ooh, this is gonna catch you off guard. But yes, Nagisa, Sugino, and Hara are anti-Irina. The latter two are kind and empathetic people yes...but they’re also both fiercely protective of their classmates/friends. And in this situation, the safety of their friends would definitely be more important than Irina’s feelings. They’d see her as a threat.
For Nagisa...I think the experience of dealing with 2.0 hit him harder in a different way. He saw how Reaper tried to break Kayano’s ribs. That’s his best friend...he felt so angry and hurt in this situation, WE SAW. That’s why I truly believe Nagisa would be less than forgiving towards Irina, who aided in hurting him and his friends.
Hayami gets hurt in a different way in this situation...she’s gotten taken advantage of and never allowed to express her dissent in anything for SO LONG. And now after finally building confidence in 3-E...she’s supposed to just let their traitor teacher come back?? And act like she’s totally fine?? Hell no, she’s not.
Karma is pretty self-explanatory lmao. He really has a near-impossible time trying to forgive her and feel comfortable in the class again. He’s on high-alert all the time and feels protective over his friends... Like this kid has bad trust issues in general, there’s no way he can ever feel totally fine with Irina again let’s be real.
Okuda was legitimately terrified for her life that night with Reaper. And she never ever wants to feel that paralyzing sense of fear again. She also has a hard time being around Irina again.
Isogai! Surprise haha. There’s lots of angst with this one. The class could’ve died that night partly because of Irina’s actions. And he can’t forgive that easily. Like he has an impoverished family to think about. His sick mom and siblings need him. He’s the main provider at home. If he died that night because of Irina...his family would just break apart. And thinking about such awful possibilities cements Isogai’s opinion that she needs to leave. They’ll be fine without her.
Sugaya, Muramatsu, and Mimura all have pretty much the same view. They were terrified for their lives, are pissed that she did that, etc. They’re slightly torn since they’d like the class to go back to normal but...it needs to be addressed.
Fuwa kinda was brought back down to reality after all that. Like yes it was kind of a cool experience to talk about, like action-packed. But once the adrenaline left, it hit her how much danger she was truly in. Fuwa wants adventure, but not at the cost of her safety or others.
Hazama and Yoshida are on the same wavelength...they’re partly there to support Muramatsu and Hara, and also because Irina leaving is the safe way out. Like logically speaking...the woman is an assassin. She’ll just move on with her life, they’ll be safer, etc. So much more good to come out of it.
Ritsu remains neutral, just like she does in canon.
Korosensei and Karasuma both step back and decide to let the students figure it out, having trust in their decisions...and because it’s ultimately an experience that only the students have shared. It’s not their place to dictate how the kids feel. They both push aside their personal feelings about Irina to focus on the kids, who are top priority.
Irina is...trying her best to keep a cool face. A small deep part of her is on the defensive, wanting to continue to prove herself as a teacher and assassin. But the majority of her understands how they feel and respects that completely. She mentally prepares herself to leave the class and forget the kids forever...even though it’ll be so hard.

Hey @narashikari, remember that time when Rintaro made everyone wince with his dad puns? Well, get ready for something even worse.
In hindsight, he should never have let Rintaro feed Ise again. But Kento was off training with Ren, because he simply couldn't refuse the ninja gremlin (and probably because he hadn't wanted to hear him and Mei arguing about the hedgehog), and he and Mei had been panicking over the first draft of the Kento-kun script, leaving Rintaro the only one available to feed the baby dragon.
It started out alright, Rintaro and Ise eating together and discussing the stories that Touma was considering for the Kento-kun spin-off, Tortoise-tou-san. Rintaro was eating a meat sandwich with salad- because he knew how to balance his meals- and Ise was scarfing down a plate of meat and rice. It was actually quite the cute picture, Touma thought as he looked up at them from his desk.
"Berry!" Ise yelled as soon as he finished his plate.
Rintaro laughed and patted his son's head. "Don't worry, Ise, you'll get your berries." He got up and went to the kitchen, and a minute later he returned with a small plate of assorted berries- strawberries, blueberries, mulberries and blackberries. "Ready?"
"Yes!" Ise nodded vigorously, his tuft of whitish hair bouncing with the motion. "Berries!" He tried to reach for one, but Rintaro pushed his hand away.
"Here, allow me." He picked up a strawberry and held it out to Ise. "Ichigou no ichigo*!"
Ise took it and devoured it happily, but a crash of ceramic and Touma's cursing interrupted them before Ise could get another berry.
"Rintaro... You didn't just say that, right?" Touma blurted out, having just dropped his coffee mug on the floor and gotten ink all over his manuscript thanks to dropping his dip pen.
"Umm... Do you want me to lie?" Rintaro shrugged in confusion. That kind of statement always seemed questionable to him.
"Goddamnit Rintaro, how many times do we need to tell you? No puns around Ise!"
Rintaro winced, handing Ise a blueberry. It was going to be a rough night when Kento found out that he'd punned again in front of Ise. He'd probably message Fuwa-senpai later for support, but for right now he had to deal with it on his own.
*the pun translates to "strawberry in one go", and it also references a joke made all the way back in Gaim, when Ichigou's lockseed pronounced his title in the weirdest way possible. This was because Gaim already had the ichigo/strawberry lockseed, pronounced approximately the same way as the title, and they had to separate the two in some way.

Love Me Girl
It’s the fastest reaction fic to ever reaction fic! WARNING, ANGST. Mustardtan, I’m gonna get to your Happy!!!! When I have the facts and can write something longer! Your draft is already longer than this is!!!
“You should tell me what you’re thinking; I know you’re mad.” I say finally, as Yashiro pulls away from the restaurant. Trying to navigate around the okami about Tsuruga-san’s expression and
“Mad? Why would I be mad?” His voice is eerily calm. I hate it.
I pull my shoulders back and stare at him, even though he won’t reciprocate the action. “You’re mad about Sho.” Again. But I didn’t vocalize that last part. I still didn’t quite understand why Tsuruga-san seems to hate Sho even more than I did.
“Who you spend your nights with is none of my concern, Mogami-san.”
I flinch. Is this what he really thinks? “He didn’t stay over!”
Tsuruga-san remains nonchalant, keeping his attention on whatever was outside the window. “After Fuwa trifled with your heart and kicked you to the curb, who knew that the reciprocation of your previous affection was all he needed for you to come back to him with open arms?”
Like what you read? Read the rest!

I'm honestly not too shocked that Aruto is going to work together Gai now. He always rubbed me the wrong way when it came to his views about Humagears, esp his reaction to Raiden & Subaru. That was a huge red flag for me. Also, if he's really so concerned about the well-being of Humagears, then he should offer counseling for the destroyed & revived Humagears to deal with the trauma. But I guess that would be too much to ask. As long as they serve humans who cares about Humagears' feelings.
I def agree w/ you, he’s rubbed me the wrong way in many of the same ways.
It’s hard to believe he sees HumaGear as people when he’s all pleased w/ Raiden talking about how he’ll be decommissioned soon and even calling the two of them ‘just like real brothers.’
You know, like he keeps saying Horobi is ‘trying to be like Jin’s father.’
And don’t even get me started on ‘a caring brother can’t be a spy,’ ‘if only you had been different,’ ‘why did you hurt Izu?’ ‘I’ve never treated them differently’…
AUGH.
To me, Aruto’s ‘dream’ can be summed up in a line from a song that was cut from Frozen (ya’ll thought I’d forgotten about this, didn’t you, but no) that goes ‘It’ll be just like it was, except for we’ll be best friends.’
This got long, so I’m cutting it here. Or. I’m trying to.
He doesn’t see HumaGear as equal to people, he just wants them to stay right where they are, and ‘be happy’ there. ‘Good’ HumaGear are the ones whose development is convenient for humans. Raiden was ‘good’ when he saw no problem dying bc his ‘purpose was served,’ Naki was ‘good’ when they just wanted to support other HumaGear’s dreams as long as they were steered towards HumaGear w/ dreams of benefiting humanity, Jin is ‘good’ now bc he’s not trying to get HumaGear away from serving humans anymore and is also willing to kill his own father or due himself to do something that will benefit humans. The morality of the show has always been very much centred around humans, how HumaGear benefit humans, and HumaGear are expected to be these perfect little angels who exist to help humans and never think of themselves. Horobi is ‘bad’ bc he has resentment towards humans and has been so deeply under the Ark’s control for so long that he can’t think outside of her (esp not after being possessed) so obviously he doesn’t ‘want’ to be ‘change.’
I said it in the tags of my other post, but there’s something wrong w/ the picture when you’re holding a literally mind controlled AI who hasn’t had any concept of free will or self thought in his entire life aside from small snatches that were quickly stomped out, more accountable than a human w/ full autonomy and knowledge and power who deliberately did things that caused death and harm (and shot someone in the head). It’s not a good message. I’m supposed to feel bad for Gai bc he’s ‘sad,’ but Horobi deserves to die? I’m sorry, what?
The message has very much been ‘humans are special special and HumaGear are expendable/need to be carefully moulded into a ‘singularity’ that’s at the least convenient for humans.’ ‘Good’ HumaGear aspire only to properly serve their humans, to be like them, they are pure and angelic creatures who never feel anything ‘negative,’ and if they do, they need to be purged.
I could rant myself in circles about this for ages. I think for me, the really glaring example is Aruto’s treatment of Jin, a relationship that could have been an interesting learning experience for both of them (though, honestly, I was also hoping to see Fuwa also help Aruto realise the issues w/ his attitude, bc as he started coming down from his prejudice and aggression, Fuwa actually treated HumaGear more like equals than Aruto did, one of the many things I loved about him and Horobi as a pair), but instead ends up being a glaring example of Aruto’s… Whatever.
So Horobi has his first moment of clarity and genuinely fears for Jin, so the Ark steps in and ‘tells’ him to protect his son, so he does and it hurt, and Jin is hysterical. Izu proceeds to walk right up to the still-transformed, clearly emotionally volatile and very uninjured Jin, and announce w/ a smile that Horobi has been defeated. Jin, hysterical and lost, reacts in the only way he knows how, violently, which she should have bloody seen coming, wth. But then, Aruto is demanding to know ‘why did you hurt Izu’ like she did nothing wrong and Jin just attacked her randomly (which was a thing that could have happened and would have made his emotions make mire sense, Jin lashing out at Izu as ‘revenge’ for Horobi), and then Jin gets treated like the total bad guy. Then, on top of that, Aruto finds out during the fight that Jin doesn’t actually know what’s going on, he’s just been raised into this. Instead of immediately trying to change tactics and reason w/ him, Aruto just spews his ‘I want HumaGear and humans to smile together’ line (what does that even mean?), and when Jin rejects that, Aruto just… Gives up and says ‘if only you had been different.’ doesn’t try to prompt Jin to think about what Jin wants, what Jin is feeling, doesn’t bother to try to find out why Jin is so hysterical. It gets even worse when he quickly gains the firepower advantage and learns that Izu will be totally fine, but he still doesn’t bother trying anything else. He just kills Jin, bc… What? Jin didn’t immediately bow to his ‘love’ for HumaGear? Of course once sentence wasn’t gonna do it, he just watched humans kill his father! Aruto didn’t need to kill Jin at all, it would have been easy to disable him—alternatively, if they really wanted Jin to go down there, there were ways to do it that didn’t make it come off as Aruto quickly erasing a HumaGear for having any negative feelings or resentment towards humans, esp when you follow it w/ a scene of him and Izu being all pleased about other HumaGear ‘behaving’ themselves, and then never mention Jin again.
Fast forward, and when Jin comes back talking about wanting to free HumaGear from humans… Aruto actually asks him what he wants, finally? Then Aruto gets the boot from Hiden and decides to go to Jin for help. This should be a turning point where Jin get to properly confront Aruto about what happened and Aruto reflects on what he did, but no. Jin gets to shout a little, but then Aruto claims he never treated humans and HumaGear differently and says ‘I watched my HumaGear dad die’ and Jin just… Says nothing? doesn’t shoot back w/, ‘so did I, humans killed him.’ Then they get interrupted and Jin runs off… Only to… Rescue Izu later? But then after he does he… Grabs her hand and runs away and tries to convince her to be free? After… Literally buying his father time to reconnect to the Ark? And this is Izu? Who he stabbed? Okay… Anyway, then we have more stuff w/ poor connotations of Jin saying he ‘learned something’ from Aruto killing him and Izu ‘choosing’ to keep being Aruto’s secretary like a ‘good’ little HumaGear (her liking him and wanting to stay on his side would be one thing, but this… Esp w/ him claiming that he thought she should choose, going by his later insistence that Jin can’t take G-Pen bc he’s a human’s ‘partner’), and only then does he take a bullet for her. This apparently means something to Jin, although I feel like the implications of ‘she’s worth protecting bc she decided to keep serving humans and I killed you bc you didn’t want to do that’ should not have been lost on him (also wtf did Jin start caring about Izu?). The we have the next ep w/ aforementioned G-Pen incident which for some reason Aruto defending another HumaGear choosing to serve humans makes Jin decide to ‘believe in his dream’ or whatever. But then later the Raiden scene makes it seem like Jin was playing along bc that conversation w/ Horobi about HumaGear needing guidance to break free gave him an idea or something, I dunno, but naturally Aruto reacts like this is some huge betrayal, despite the fact that they hardly have any relationship—okay, so this friendship is something Aruto made up in his head, given his character, and apparent assumptions that all HumaGear actually adore humans, that makes sense. That could work. But then episode thirty fucking six happens. Jin apparently cares more for Yaiba, a human he’s barely interacted w/ who had yet to show any sign of no longer considering HumaGear to be tools, who had previously represented all the things Jin hated about them, then his own father. Acts all protective of her, throws himself in as a shield for her, moons about while she’s in the hospital. Then we learn he decided he trusted her (?????) enough to conspire w/ her to… Use his own father as a sacrifice to kill the Ark. Aruto seems to be more worried about Horobi, but merely yells a bit about how Horobi should ‘remember who he is by now.’ Come ep 37, Jin fucking takes a hit for miss perfect HumaGear Izu (note: aside from her grabbing the idiot ball in ep 15, my annoyance w/ Izu isn’t really something she as a character has done, it’s the way they’ve written her as the ‘pinnacle of ‘good’ HumaGear for her devotion to her human’), and tells Aruto to leave. Now that Jin is behaving in a way that benefits/is convenient for humans, though, Aruto is a like ‘oh, we totally were best buds, I was right!’ and is so worried and distressed about him, forgetting Horobi (who is so ‘bad’ for not being able to break through more than a decade of mind control! forget him, Jin must be saved!). Then we have that incredibly forced scene in 38 where Aruto tries to ‘get through to Jin’ and Jin ‘breaks through the Ark’s control bc of Aruto’ (see my draft horse pack on a shetland pony analogy) and ‘tells Aruto to kill him!’ which continues in to this ep. In which we also have… Gai. Who Aruto quickly puts effort into ‘reasoning w/’ and ‘showing the light’ bc ‘oh no he had a bad childhood’… Okay, but… You killed Jin for that, and he literally didn’t understand what he was doing. Gai had full autonomy and knowledge of his actions. People were hurt bc of both of their actions, but it’s Gai who gets a big speech and Jin who gets blown up. I said it back when it happened. If Jin had been human? I bet they would have made Aruto approach that much differently.
The fact that Aruto is willing to do all that for Gai but killed Jin, and only now considers Jin worth any effort bc Jin is behaving in a way that benefits/is convenient for humans even at the expense of HumaGear (being willing to sacrifice Horobi, even himself, to stop the Ark, while that goal is technically ultimately noble, the context gives a bad connotation), and not trying to talk HumaGear out of being subservient to humans and telling them to think for themselves, or wanting to revive a HumaGear that Aruto was content to leave deactivated bc he didn’t have a ‘use’… But Horobi only gets a few shouts and then ditched bc he ‘won’t listen’… Leaves a really bad impression.
