I figured you might be able to help with a sanity check. So I’ve recently been getting into Kim Possible after a decade or so of hiatus specifically kigo the ship of Kim and her archnemesis Shego and despite adamantly claiming any content I make would involve the two being adults and fairly close in age because AU why not?

I’ve had to deal with accusations of grooming and so forth.

It sounds an awful lot like the same rhetoric being thrown at the lgbt community and all over a fictional ship that I plan to portray as adults anyway.

Is it just me or is there no self awareness there?

Nah there is fucking none. A lot of antis grew up in religious fundamentalist households (a fuckton of white westerners did in general, myself included) and they haven't done the work to unlearn shit because they think they didn't internalize anything (we all did. We all fucking did its a societal level issue we all gotta do the work to pry the roots of it out.)

3 Ships: Ooh, okay, so I should probably go for the one I’m actually currently writing a fic for, which is Pansy x Hermione (Harry Potter, fuck jk rowling), and of course the one I used to write for; Kara x Lena (Supergirl), then idk really, probably Wednesday x Enid (Wednesday)? I’m not really involved much in fandom anymore so I barely have any ships at the moment, which is kinda strange.

First Ever Ship: KiGo (Kim Possible x Shego). We didn’t have Disney channel in my house when I was little so I only ever got to see snippets of shows at other people’s houses (we never sat down and actually watched anything because me and my friends were very weird children who hung out in graveyards and tried to commune with spirits instead of watching tv). But my family did go on holiday to somewhere with a telly that got Disney once, and I saw Kim Possible and Shego and there was absolutely no going back from there.

The first ship that ever lead me to fucking around on the internet actively looking for content for it though was Draco x Hermione, in that brief period of time where I was trying to convince myself I was straight. Never was really that into it, but I did read a hell of a lot of it.

Last Song: Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol. It’s an absolute banger.

Last Movie: I don’t remember. I really don’t watch much television; I don’t have the attention span for it. I think it might have been Spider Man; No Way Home, which I do enjoy very much, but I can’t be too sure.

Currently Reading: Book-wise, I’ve just finished Seven Wonders; The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis. I can’t say I recommend it. My mum got it for my brother nearly a decade ago and I’ve been meaning to read it pretty much ever since he finished with it, but just never got around to it. It was not worth the wait.

The next thing I’ve got lines up though is The Lost Plot by Genevieve Cogman, which is about a dimension-hopping librarian and is a lot of fun. It’s the 4th book in the Invisible Library series, and I’ve enjoyed all the others so I’m looking forward to this one.

Fic-wise, I’m ... okay so I really enjoy reading cringey, bad fanfiction, like My Immortal and ‘this is my OC, she’s Hiccup’s twin sister in HTTYD and she got taken away by dragons with her mum and now she’s a badass and is gonna save the world’ type stuff. Idk why, I just derive a lot of enjoyment from it. I like seeing people’s pure, unfiltered creativity on show. That being said to explain exactly why I’m reading something called ‘Weasley Magic’, in which Hermione Granger is magically married to all of the Weasley siblings and the poor story can’t decide if it wants to be a porno, or a serious breakdown and reconstruction of the magical world’s government and educational system. Every chapter gives you tonal whiplash. David Bowie is namedropped as a Muggleborn. Ginny and Harry manage to accidentally become ‘magcially bound as brother and sister’ (don’t ask, I can’t explain) and yet Ginny still ends up pregnant with his child. It’s a wild ride. I strongly recommend it.

Currently Watching: Again, I don’t really watch things. I mostly just stick youtube videos on in the background whilst I’m playing video games or doing housework. Last tv thing I watched was Vienna Blood, I think. It was pretty good.

Currently Consuming: Not currently consuming anything as I am between meals right now, but I did have a bagel with marmite for breakfast a few hours ago and am going to have a sausage roll for lunch.

Currently Craving: Cherries. God I love those things. Could consume them for days.

The Arctic Station by Forage - @foragewrites

So, the other day I kicked myself in the butt and started to work on this cover I've been wanting to make for like almost a year. Also, this one is a bit different that my usual covers, because I did this one completely on my tablet. I've had a Lenovo P11 for a while now, but I recently got the pen for it to work on some stuff that I won't post for now, but that gave me ideas to work with. This is the result of that.

I was planning of making a time lapse of the process like I did with the Kigo cover I made a while ago, but sadly I got distracted making a mock-up version to show to Forage, but before I knew it 2 hours had gone by and most of it was done. It was an interesting experience, because I did things I never did while working on pc, like manually drawing over the flags to make them look torn or adding the snow covering the building.

With my usual method I'd have looked for flags already torn and a building covered in snow, which would've taken a lot of time, or be down right impossible to find, something that happens a lot and I found that was what frustrated me a lot, leading to abandoning some ideas or whole projects. I still haven't been working as much I'd like, but when I do, I usually finish with a piece in one or two sessions and never feel bored or frustrated during the process, which is a huge plus for me.

I'll do my best to make more covers or other manips in the near future and post them here. I also have this other stuff I've been working on, but as I said before, I can't post them for now, or should I say I don't want to post them for now, because it's something I've sort of made in collaboration with some friends and I want them post them first, so I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Anyways, this one got long (big surprise), but I don't want to end it without telling y'all to do yourselves a favor and read "The Arctic Station", because it's so freaking good. It has the right amount of angst, drama and hurt and comfort to make it a certified emotional journey that you'll love from beginning to end. So once again, go fucking read it now. You're still here? What are you waiting for? Go, now! Shoo! You'll thank me latter.

I have finished ATLA: some thoughts

I have finally finished Avatar the Last Airbender after months of procrastination. After hearing from it from the memes, the essays and what my friends say, I largely knew the show by reputation. Most of my exposure to the Avatar universe was though Legend of Korra.

But after watching the show, I figured I give my thoughts even though I don’t really know where to begin. Especially since there is little I can say without regurgitating what others said better than I can. 

First some generic takes. Mostly season three, as I felt that was the height of the show and the Ba Sing Sei arc in season two gave me Arc Fatigue.

1. The Beach absolutely, fucking slaps. Like I knew the episode by rep and memes, but actually watching the episode, Grey, Dante, Olivia and Cricket knocked it out of the park, especially with that campfire scene.

2. What I will say is that Ember Island Players manages to be both a great recap and the right amount “Take That Fans!”. And this is coming from a guy who likes to write that kind of “Take That!” commentary in some of my own fics.

3. I freaking loved Mark Hammill as Ozai. Like fuck Ozai, but I loved how his voice was nigh indistinguishable from the Joker in the final episodes. I guess you can say Hamill really hammed it up ?

...screw you that’s funny.

4. Nightmares and Daydreams...what where they smoking, and where can I but it ?

Now for my bigger takes.

5. Zuko is both a blessing and a curse. I say this in the best possible way.

I keep seeing essays and posts about how “X is the Zuko of this work” or “Why Y and Zuko are totally different”. And I get it, Zuko is one of the - if not the - best written character arcs in the show, and possibly animation in general. He earned his place as the shows secondary protagonist. Midway through the first season, he instantly became one of my favorite characters.

The problem is, Zuko sets the Golden Standard of Redemption arcs, and set the bar so high that everyone either expects to write “X Character” to follow the same pattern, or constantly compare “Y Character” to Zuko. And as someone who seen many a redemption arc and discourse, I find “Making X character Zuko” more often than not leads to negative discourses. The closest character I’ve seen to come to matching up to Zuko was Catra. 

Depending on how problematic X character is, you cannot expect a Zuko like redemption arc; if they are mass murderers or the like, you can at best expect a Darth Vader “Redemption by Death” moment, or at best Kratos with the “Exiled Atoner” arc. As such, depending on the character, I looked to other characters besides Zuko to compare redemption arcs too.

6. Now that I got that bit out of the way, I recently discovered the Anti Katara discourse, which for the life of me I cannot wrap my mind around it. 

This one goes out for all “Traumatized teenage girls who get their flaws exaggerated, and/or are demonized for getting angry at people” - but Katara sticks out especially considering she is a fourteen year old girl who along with other kids, is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. 

While Sokka and even Aang have their faults and failings throughout the show, but Katara is always signaled out. I think we all know why, but others said it in better ways than I can. Really, with what Katara has been through before and throughout the show, it’s a miracle that she manages to be an angel she is for most of the show.

7. When I first started watching the series, I mentioned my annoyance that the Zutara vs Kataang discourse is already dragging me down. And this is coming from a Multi Shipper.

Having finished the series, I can firmly say I am on the Kataang side of things, and I am generally ambivalent to who other people ship or don’t ship. Personally, I see Zutara as more like Kigo - not something I can see in canon, and largely is influenced by fanon. There’s a few ships I don’t get behind canonically, but can still enjoy in an AU or Canon Divergence (eg; Sarah x Nancy from The Craft is a favorite ship of mine, but it’s almost always in the context of a Canon Divergence).

Anyways, the more I look into the Zutara vs Kataang discourse, the more it feels to me like one side was watching a completely different show, and I couldn’t get where it was coming from. Maybe I had to have watched the show in it’s hayday, but I just couldn’t see it watching the series over. Even when Zuko and Katara bond, I didn’t see that much in chemistry or dynamic that went beyond platonic. Hell, Zuko and Sokka, had more chemistry and bromance dynamic in their bonding episodes, more so than any of Zuko or Katara’s interactions. Reading a romantic interpretation into their canon relationship just came off to me as too far reaching, and reading into stuff that’s not there. 

Probably not helping is that the the worst arcs in the later Nick series, Every Witch Way, seemingly happened because fans really wanted a canon version of Zutrara in Jax and Emma, but that’s too long and distracting for me to explain here (the short version is Jax was the shows attempt at Zuko, but Jax falls into some of the same pitfalls as Kylo Ren...and even then I feel the overwhelming need to apologize to Kylo for that comparison).

Anyways, I stan Kataang, and Maiko (even though I wish the latter had more time to grow on me, but I find a lot of their scenes cute).

8. Now anyone who knows me, probably thinks I would be brainstorming fic ideas - especially crossovers - and possibly sharing them on my blog. In fact I do have such crossover ideas -one a crossover with Godzilla of all things, and LOK era follow-up that is also a Star Was crossover. I don’t know if I’ll actually write these stories, let alone share the concept, but I talked to a friend about these ideas. Most of it is focused on worldbuilding and character interactions as opposed to any arcs I have in mind.

Anyways that’s about all I have to say. This show was certainly worth the hype, and I finally caught up to a show I procrastinated for more than a decade.

Bellamione Fics Master List #2

Another long list of good fics to enjoy!! I’m not categorizing this one, because I’m lazy as fuck. 

Looks can be Deceiving The Golden Trio take down Voldemort but his icky ideologies still remain. Hermione takes them on head on, causing lots of bickering with Bellatrix that leads to eventual romance and lots of adventure. Gives off Kigo vibes in a way. Kigo/10

Curfew Hermione standing up against shitty governments, which is so on time right now. 7/10 for time to take the big man down. 

Embracing the Darkness A Dark AU in which Hermione’s relationship with Ron is what triggers her spiral into a dark descent. The story hasn’t gone far into the premise yet. 6/10 for patience is needed to let the story unravel. 

Hermione Noctis A soulmate au. It only has two chapters out but hopefully more will be updated? 6/10 for get ready for some soulmate shenanigans. 

The Bitter Wake This starts off after Dumbledore’s death and features Bellamione helping each other out, and trying to navigate a changed world. 7/10 for this interesting plot. 

Carpe Noctem Honestly, such a good read. It is a slow burn like no slow burn before I have read. Hermione’s in love with another woman but it begins to morph into a love for Bellatrix. The story leaves off on such a cliff hanger and I hope at some point it will be continued. It’s worth the read for the amazingly well thought and planned out plot, the amount of detail in the story, and the rich environment. 10/10 it’s time to seize some reading glasses because this story is thick boi. 

Destined A time travel fic! Picks up after the battle at the Department of Mysteries. A good read and the Bellamione is well written. 7/10 for pack your bags it’s time we time travel. 

Oblivate This one has been ongoing since 2013 so don’t expect any fast updates. Additionally, the writing style is a bit rough at the beginning but the plot’s interesting and it builds up quite nicely. 6/10 for the long update times that will oblivate your memory of the plot and make you have to re-read the chapters. 

The Asset It’s pretty much an assassin fic. Hermione is Bellatrix’s handler and they go on missions. You can imagine how well that goes. Features a Russian!Bellatrix which I didn’t know I needed but I need about ten thousand more fics of her like this, yes please. 8/10 for this international thriller that gives off Killing Eve vibes. 

The Black Sister’s Act Basically a sister act spin off. Lots of fun to read but hard to tell if the author will continue this story. 3/10 for that’s how many sisters there are. 

The Romanov Prophecy features the rise of the house of Romanov. Slightly Anastasia vibes and featuring battles and prophecies. And of course, Bellamione that is predestined by the stars. 6/10 for make it Anastasia but gay. 

Hell of a Witch I can’t find this fic anymore, but if you can manage to find it, read it. It’s pretty good; you’ll have to take my word for it. 6/10 for where the hell did this go?!

Arsonist’s Lullaby Fire and Bellamione. What more could you want? Also features my good friend angst in copious amounts and a reformed Bellatrix (sorta). 7/10 for this lullaby will not put you to sleep. 

Toujours Pur A fic in which the main characters don’t try to change each other. Also told from first person pov that switches around. Only a few chapters out but hopefully more will be on their way. 8/10 for this story is pure Bellamione. 

Rosier’s Prophecy This fic is currently under construction but it features time travel and prophecies with the three sisters Black traveling to the future to meet the Golden Trio in an effort to be saved by their mother. 7/10 interesting concept that I hope we get to see more of. 

Love’s Odyssey in Death’s Design AHHHHHHHH please update. Basically a reformed Bellatrix in which she is given a chance to be a better person but it comes at the hands of a helping Hermione. And boy oh boy, they are not buddies. Love/love for love. 

Strange and Beautiful, This one can be found on Deviantart unlike the other fics which were found on fanfiction. 5/10 for reading on Deviantart is weird? 

The Black Mouse and the Lost Girl A short but complete fanfic, where Hermione and Bellatrix both see different sides of each other than what they expected. This changes their whole perspective on each other and leads to a changed relationship. The romance moves fast in this one. Mouse and cat/10 for this mouse named fic. 

Signiferis mortis et Aeterna lux In which the bad guys have won and the good guys have to hide. Along the way, Bellatrix and Hermione fall in love. This fic has stopped updating but it’s still worth a look if you’re running dry on Bellamione fics. 7/10 for just bookmark this fic because it takes too long to type up the name in the search bar. 

Alternative Black A fic with a hefty 50 chapters, and it’s finished! Involves some canon with an alternative ending to it. This fic isn’t too dark and is evenly paced. And it provides an entertaining other version of Bellatrix and Hermione’s relationship. 7/10 for a good alternative to alternatives. 

Altera Aretla  A parallel universe fic, in which a lot of stuff is unexpected. Good premise and fun to read. The chapters are short and there’s not a lot out yet but it’s worth a look. 7/10 for these chapters need to be longer. 

The Woman in the Attic is a Victorian Gothic-esque story. It updates monthly so far and the chapters are thick. Bellatrix is a bit crazy in this one but there seems to be more to it than meets the eye. Of course Hermione is there to make things better. This AU type seems promising. 7/10 for I can’t wait to see how their relationship evolves. 

Breaking the Window In which it’s kinda a time travel fic but not really? Featuring a pool and war, and Bellatrix and Hermione try to figure out a way to save the world while decades apart. 7/10 for let’s get wet. 

Through Sand and Sea This fic has 86 chapters out (at the time of writing this) so if you need a long juicy Bellamione story to read, look no further! it is a slow burn so there will be a lot of sand before you reach the sea, if you get what I mean. 8/10 for don’t be salty when your eyes hurt after reading over 300k words. 

In the Darkest of Shadows is the prequel to that one teacher fic on ao3 that we all know about (right?). Reading it adds more to that extended Teacher-verse. 7/10 for Miss Bellatrix, can you grade me more harshly?

There Will be Love (Not Half as Much as Privilege) Which is a massive fic that basically looks at war in the HP universe. It has other additional fics relating to it as well, so if you really need an immersive Bellamione fic with lots of material to get through for that long weekend at the house of that aunt you hate, this would work. 6/10 for that’s about as much as I got through. 

Child of the Dark Which I am going to label as a Dark AU just because. It features lies, deceit, and Hermione trying to get to the bottom of it all, during her fifth year at Hogwarts. I wanna go home/10 because it deals with Hermione being kidnapped and other dark themes. 

I Need your Lavender Kiss A cafe AU. served piping hot! Only two chapters out but hopefully there will be more. 7/10 because Starbucks who? 

A Trip to Space Is a bit of a crackfic but is a nice palette cleanser from the more serious fics. Bellamione do drugs. It’s a one shot. Infinity/10 because they’re just gone to space, man. 

There’s an Old Myth Is a two chapter fic about werewolves. It gets pretty hairy. Full moon/10 because they look pretty under moonlight. 

Give me Control Which is about- you guessed it!- giving control. A smutty one shot/10 for those smutty yet tender feels. 

Sore Loser Which is a smutty Halloween fic. Trick or treat/10 for give me some sugah, honey.
