Living in a University Residence with Allergies
To begin I will say I have lived in a university residence for 2 years, and it is not easy to stay completely safe from your allergies when living on a university campus. With meal hall, shared accommodations, and not many regulations surrounding the food allowed within buildings it can be quite the challenge.
Let's start with meal hall; in meal hall the food is normally prepared before you even arrive in the building and the chefs/cooks do not always take caution about food allergens since they have tens of thousands of students to feed cheaply, three times a day. The first thing of advice I can give is talk to the chefs working in the meal hall and get to know them and have them know you, and become aware of your allergy. Next see if there is a designated station for those with dietary needs, some universities have them others do not. If neither of those options seem viable to you try and stick will food you can read the ingredients list on and see where it is prepared (i.e. sandwich or cereal stations), and also see if there are other students (especially in your residence building) that have the same allergy as you. They can tell you if some foods are safe and some that are not, as well you can prepare larger meals with them in the residence kitchens.
This brings me to the next topic of residence buildings; residence buildings are great in that they allow students to live close to their classes and are generally a good price, but there are complications with allergens. Food allergies are not the only concern as more and more universities are opening their residences to emotional support animals (a good thing for students that need them but for students with dog and cat allergies there are precautions needed). We will start with the animal allergies as the solution tends to be fairly simple; a lot of schools have a designated residence for those with pets but also allow other students without pets to live there, so on your residence application make sure to emphasize your allergy and call the residence office to make sure they are well aware. Even if your allergy is just a runny nose and watery eyes, let your school know because you will be living near the pet even when you are trying to study and do work and allergies can be distracting. Up-play the severity if you need to because your health is important and you do need to be safe.
Onto food allergies; food allergies are a challenge within residence, if you have a residence kitchen DO NOT LEAVE ANY FOOD there as other residents will steal the food and some will mix food together without your knowledge even if you write your name on it. For instance if you leave butter in the communal fridge someone will come and make some toast and put peanut butter on one slice and the open the fridge and grab your butter and butter another piece, then place your butter back and you would not know it had been contaminated. Instead buy a mini fridge for your room, and pick up a small table or storage object and use it as your pantry. This will save you a lot of worry and prevent you from needing a hospital trip.
I hope this helps, fell free to comment with anymore questions.

Dinners, they can change more than you bargained for.
I was recently invited to dinner by a colleague. I accepted the invitation and made the trek into the office. However, as someone with severe food allergies, I don’t have the option to eat for enjoyment, but rather for survival. I can’t try new foods without doing introductory tests to see if I will have a reaction. Although I don’t owe anyone an explanation of my dietary needs, I think a bit of…

Food Allergy Test
A Food Allergy Test is a diagnostic process used to pinpoint particular foods or food ingredients that may cause an individual's immune system to react allergically. For those who think they might have a food allergy or intolerance, it is a vital tool. There are various ways to test for food allergies: skin prick tests that expose the skin to minute amounts of allergenic proteins; blood tests that detect the presence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies linked to specific allergens; and elimination diets that involve gradually removing and reintroducing specific foods to track responses.Testing for food allergies helps identify the precise causes of symptoms including depression, chronic fatigue, skin problems, or digestive problems.By encouraging people to pay more attention to what they eat and increasing their knowledge of their dietary choices, this test may help them adopt healthier eating habits. It is possible to take this test in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc. Germany receives the material for the ImuPro IgG Food Allergy Test. for examination and the reports take 3 weeks to arrive.
