In the tags on the Mossflower post you reblogged you said that it wasn't your favorite (like it seemed to be op's). Which would you say Is your favorite 👀
This is a very hard question, and my Great Redwall Reread of a few years ago actually made it harder. It is, to be frank, easier to tell you my least favorite than my favorite. But if I must make some choice, it's a five-way tie between Lord Brocktree, High Rhulain, Rakkety Tam, Pearls of Lutra, and Mattimeo.
Lord Brocktree has the fabulous dynamic between the main characters (especially Brocktree and Dotti), Bucko's challenges, pretty much EVERYTHING with the hares, a stellar example of rivals-to-friends, and a pretty epic ending.
High Rhulain, Pearls of Lutra, and Mattimeo all have the riddles/treasure hunt thing going on, which I will never not love. As far as I was concerned, that was a plotline Jacques could repeat as many times as he wanted and I'd be happy.
High Rhulain is probably also a major source of my love of the "young person has nobility unexpectedly thrust upon them; must figure out How Does One Royal?" trope. And it has both hares and otters (my two favorite Redwall races) in major roles! This makes me happy.
Pearls of Lutra is actually my favorite of the treasure-hunt plots, and I think it's the best of the seafaring Redwall books. It's still in the era where we're seeing the overlap of different generations, and we see the young characters from past books grown up, and I really enjoyed that while it lasted. It also has one of the best sympathetic villain characters in the series . . . and I just like Grath Longfletch as a character, what can I say?
Rakkety Tam is Scottish squirrels. Enough said.
(Ok, but actually you have Scottish squirrels, plus the Long Patrol, plus Tergen (who is Excellent), plus a really cute romance? I also love the poems that bracket the different sections. And can we TALK about the final battle? It is arguably the MOST impressive fight, at least in terms of power imbalance, since Martin vs. Tsarmina in Mossflower. Rakkety Tam takes on the evil equivalent of a badger. And WINS. Literally the only reason this is not hands-down my favorite book is the existence of Yoofus, who annoys me so much.)
Finally, Mattimeo really just has almost everything I love about the Redwall series, both the A and B plots are excellent, and it's another one of the stories where you get to see some of the next generation. And it has the Sparra in it — I was so sad when Jacques dropped them from the narrative.
So, yes. Those are probably my favorites. I do love a lot of the series, though, so it's very hard to choose! And I recognize that not all of these have the Significance or Weight of Mossflower, and some of them may be technically weaker books . . . but they're the ones I've loved since the first time I read the series, and that I've only come to love more in the times I've reread them.

🖊 + character of your choice
I'm going to tell you about the as-yet-unnamed Old King from the retelling of "The Goose Girl" that I brainstormed after that fairy tale won the poll of which story I should retell.
In rereading the fairy tale, I noticed that the old king is the underrated hero of the story. When the usurping handmaid goes off with the prince, the king is the one who notices the princess-turned-servant still standing there. When he learns the "princess" wants to send her away, he not only finds a job for her, he creates a position for her as the goose girl. He listens to Conrad's stories about how strange this goose girl is. He finds the loophole that allows the goose girl to tell the truth. Then he confronts the handmaid and hands down the final punishment. He basically solves the entire problem, yet I've never seen as the focus in any retelling. So I dove into exploring his character.
In my tale, I want him to be a kindly trickster figure. But one with a darker backstory. In his prime, he was a formidable ruler--known for being frighteningly observant, clever and cunning, and extremely ruthless in bringing down his enemies so he could hold onto power. As he's aged, he's mellowed out, and he's come to regret some of his ruthless actions. In dealing with this strange goose girl, he has the chance to use his trickster skills--his observational abilities, his knowledge of people, and his skill at finding clever solutions--for good rather than selfish actions. To the goose girl, he at first seems to be a slightly doddering old man, but she's going to find that he's a powerful ally to have on her side.

Per @firefletch and @inolienkiki 's recommendation, I just started Alcatraz Vs. The Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson. And let me tell you, a book containing the words "Librarian controlled nations" is very, very promising

name 10 songs with 10 names in the titles that I like and tag 10 people at the end.
tagged by @cygnascrimbles thank you!
Shout out to my folk playlist, MVP of this particular question
1 - Sophie by the Goodshirts - my sister walked down the aisle to a cover of this at her wedding so it has bonus sentimental value
2 - Maria from West Side Story - liked this even before I was a cast member in the musical at high school - fun fact, my first introduction to this was in music class, when they were trying to get us to learn the different intervals - there aren't many songs that start with an augmented fourth, also known as the devil's interval
3 - Ruaimoko by Maisey Rika - from one of the first pop albums in reo Māori, my (other) sister and I played it non-stop the year we flatted together
4 - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - obviously
5 - Geordie - folk playlist coming in strong
6 - Flora - and again
7 - Rasputin by Boney M - always a good time
8 - Victoria by the Exponents for the experience of everyone absolutely belting out the chorus together (this rendition is not true to what it's like to hear this song played literally anywhere in NZ) (in the process of finding the link I found out that Victoria was by the same people as Why Does Love Do This To Me so I guess they are just winning at songs that compel the entire room to belt it out? Never knew that)
9 - For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her - my parents were Simon and Garfunkel people, what can I say
10 - Maxwell's Silver Hammer - this one gets a spot for the sheer bewilderment I feel at the fact that this was a song we sang at primary school??? We sang it with gusto, which is probably predictable
tagging @coldwind-shiningstars @brown-little-robin @allisonreader @firefletch @cuppatealove @siena-sevenwits @e-louise-bates @noneofthesewillbringdisaster @gailyinthedark @gohoubi if this tickles your fancy?

How many of your tumblr mutuals are you IRL friends with?
Lol are we counting if we met on Tumblr and barely see each other in real life? Or friends then Tumblr mutuals.
@meadow-roses @roger-dear @squishidoodles @the-vermin @scribbly-bear @blue-haired-rock are family so does that count?
Four or five friends I met on here and we've met a handful of times. (except for @firefletch who just straight up decided to be my housemate lol) So one..?

New Year's Resolutions
I have made several New Year's resolutions for writing and craft and career, and one of them is to more silly on tumblr. It is the clown website, after all, and one should never take oneself too seriously. Especially as an aspiring author.
Mostly that just means I won't be only posting original content on here (though obviously still a lot of that), but also tossing vague opinions on media I've consumed out into the ether, or memes, or something that occurred to me during Bible reading, or whatever (I will be avoiding serious/controversial topics such as politics). This is partially for fun, and to be social, and partially in the cynical attempt to interact more with mutuals because I like y'all. The bots are on thin ice, however.
Also for no particular reason I've switched Terrarium Lights update day to Tuesday instead of Saturday.
And! I will be starting to reblog other original content on Wednesdays. Since I've revived my feeble old @firefletch blog that's been languishing for a year at least, and started queueing things again, there may be repeats, but the focus here will be on reblogging original content (comics, stories, oc art) instead of just general fun stuff.
Looking forward to the new year! See you along the way.

The opening paragraph of "More Than All the Gems on Earth" is one of those passages of writing I'm so proud of that I have it memorized.
My mother beats me black and blue while I cast diamonds at her feet. The gems fall from my lips with every apology and plea for mercy, and they scatter across the rough-hewn floor like bits of broken glass. My mother would crush them if she could, and she hates them all the more because she cannot destroy them. The vipers from my sister’s lips slither among the diamonds, cold-blooded creatures born of poison words.
In particular, "cold-blooded creatures born of poison words," is a phrase artistic enough that I'm always shocked that I managed to write it.

Something has changed in your life, even if you weren't the one to do it. The family is a tiny bubble in the vast ocean.
Recent events have struck a blow to your hope and made you accutely and painfully aware of the parts of you that you don't want to acknowledge.
This problem calls for silence, calm, relaxation, and time away from the rat race. Spend time on something simple, turn off the outer world and return to the inner one for a little bit.
Continue those practices. Sometimes things are painful to experience, but to enjoy the good times, you must be aware of how you act during the bad.
