Itachi Birthday Headcanons
Tumblr media
Nobody asked for these but uh, here they are anyway. This man is like, literally perfection. He deserves so much and gets so little 😫
Not me pretending the massacre didn't happen
Little warning, references birthday blowjobs
Tumblr media
He remembers every birthday but his own. Especially Sasuke's birthday, he always makes sure to do something special for his little brother. But his birthday? Not anything special to him, treats it like just another day, though he enjoys when his family comes together to celebrate it even if he doesn't consider it to be a big deal.
You always ask him, "is there anything you want for your birthday?" And he never knows what to say. He has everything he wants. You, his family, the possibility of becoming the fifth Hokage, what more could he want? Maybe some sweet dango.
A week before his birthday, he goes on a long mission and doesn't get back until the day of. When he gets back to the village, he's tired, hungry, and missed you greatly. Again, his birthday is completely forgotten.
The Uchiha is startled when he gets home. You had thrown some confetti in his face and cheered, "surprise!" He had to blink away his shock before he fully registered what there was to be surprised about.
You were wearing his favorite dress, an elegant black dress that accentuated your best features but still left plenty for the imagination. There was a trail of rose petals leading from the front door to the bathroom. "Happy birthday!"
He couldn't help but feel his love for you grow. You had prepared a relaxing bath for him, rose petals floating in the scented water, a meal of his favorites that included sweet dango for dessert. You'd bought him a new book as his present and told him that you thought he'd be too tired to have a full family dinner to celebrate so you'd planned one for a few days afterward. Itachi felt so loved, your thoughtfulness more than he thought he deserved.
When you promised him another gift, one that could only be given with you on your knees and him with his head thrown back, he realized he couldn't have imagined a better birthday.
Tumblr media
He deserves nothing but the best honestly. Precious soft man.

Children |Naruto Men X fem!Reader| HC
Tumblr media
Characters: Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Shikamaru Nara, Kakashi Hatake, and Madara Uchiha.
Summary: How many kids they have and how they are with them.
Warnings: Fem reader. Mentions of pregnancy. Mentions of kids.
- - - - -
Naruto Uzumaki
You already knew Naruto had been dreaming of a family for a long time, so when you got your first positive test, you knew it'd go over well.
He was ecstatic to say the least.
He'd coddle you all throughout the pregnancy and as you healed.
Fatherhood was a dream come true. Nothing could make him happier than his little girl.
Except for the second kid.
And the third.
And fourth.
And at that point, you only stopped reproducing because a fifth kid had quickly become your worst nightmare.
All of his offspring, three girls and a boy, had gotten his energy. You chased everyone around the house every single day, and it was exhausting.
Of course, he helped out when he wasn't busy being hokage, but still.
Four was enough... for you.
Sasuke Uchiha
He'd never really put much thought into how many kids he wanted.
Yeah, he wanted to restore his clan, but he kinda forgot that meant HE had to restore his clan.
Your first child, a daughter, was nearing two years old when you'd gotten pregnant once more.
This sparked a conversation about exactly how big of a family he wanted.
Your first child was an angel, really. Calm, quiet, smart, brave, and so much more. If like would be like this, he'd have a hundred.
But damn that second kid was a 180°. If it weren't for the dark hair and eyes, he would swear he was Naruto's son, not his. So much energy.
After that, he'd decided two was more than enough.
He's content with his tight-knit family. (More so content with the idea of less chaos).
Shikamaru Nara
Definition of one and done.
The pregnancy was planned, and he loves his son, but he was perfectly content with how things were.
He checked in with you every now and then to make sure you were content with only one kid, but you assured him every time that he was more than enough.
Besides, only one kid meant that you could give all of your time and energy to him and his needs without worry.
Kakashi Hatake
One and done as well.
Initially, he never wanted kids, but you were already pregnant despite careful measures, so there wasn't much to be done.
A few months later, a little silver haired girl is born.
The second he saw her it was love at first sight.
He loves his daughter. She's literally his whole entire world, and he spoils her absolutely rotten.
He's super protective. Not really a surprise, but it's definitely worth a mention.
Madara Uchiha
It was normal for people on his clan to have a lot of kids. It was the only way to guarantee a future generation due to the war.
When the time came for him and his wife to start thinking about children, he suddenly realized he didn't have to have a billion children.
The war was over and there was peace, so surely there was no need?
It was a mutual decision to have just one child, so that's what you planned on.
Until you suddenly had twins; two boys.
There goes that idea.
Maybe it was his bodies way of telling him he needed more. Uchiha breeding and what-not.
A while later, you had the urge for another baby, and after a long discussion, he agreed it's what he wanted as well.
But again, you had twins, and again, it was two boys.
He called it quits after that. Fuck whatever hyper fertility nonsense you had going on.
He cares deeply for his sons, but he doesn't want to live in a world where he could potentially have yet another pair of babies to look after.

Word Count: 3k

Notes: DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT WAS TO TRACK DOWN ALL THESE SOLO PANELS???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsunade was still screaming by the time the door closed. Ino, still reeling from her latest interaction with the Fifth Hokage, was still frozen outside. You saw her on your way in, unaware of the horrible interaction she was still processing. And when she noted the rather pleasant look in your eye on your way to the office, she tried to warn you, but no warning could prepare you for the absolute hurricane on the other side of the office doors.
You slumped down next to her, your important documents plopping to the floor next to you. Ino still had hers in her lap, scrunched between her lap and chest as she seemed to curl in on herself. And as your head began to droop, Ino offered you an encouraging pat on the shoulder.
“It’s not you if that makes you feel any better,” she said, “Lady Tsunade has been chewing out everyone who’s visited her today. The guy sulking before me just left when you came.”
The long groan you let out signaled that, no, it did not make you feel any better. You ran two hands over your hairline, pushing your hitai-ate back along with the sea of strands behind it. You took your loose forehead protector in your hands.
“I need a break,” you lamented, letting your head drop again, “I don’t know how much more I have in me. When the day’s over, I’m going straight home to sleep away the entire weekend…” You groaned into your knees, slowly curling into a tighter and tighter ball.
“Oh no, you don’t!” Ino scrambled from beside you to stand and take you by the hands. “You’re not leaving me.” She heaved you up with a tight grip on your wrists, putting her back into heaving up your dead weight. Ino was surprisingly strong, something you often forgot until you were manhandled by the scrawniest muscles you’ve ever seen. You stumbled to your feet, and before you could slump back down, Ino had picked up your work.
“But Ino—” She slapped the stack of paperwork against your chest despite disgruntled protest. “Ow…”
“No!” she huffed, tugging you down the hall and the stairwell of the Hokage building. Ino marched along as if she were on a warpath. A few Jōnin leaped out of your way. “It is a Friday night, and I’ve decided that we’re going to have fun!” Ino gripped the files in her hands as a burning fury blazed in her eye.
“We?”
Ino whipped you around when you finally reached the exit, already spewing about all the potential activities you could do for the night. She tucked the reports under her arm to take you excitedly by the hands.
“I’ll talk to Sakura at the hospital, and you find Hinata and Tenten. We’ll meet at my place at seven, no, six!” You flailed your hands for her to let go, which she did without a moment of hesitation in explaining her plan. “I expect everyone to be dressed to the nines, so don’t embarrass me! I have a whole plan!”
You retied your hitai-ate, feeling more secure in organizing your stray hairs.
And just like that, Ino was gone.
***
Hinata was easy to find, with Tenten being a little less so. However, Tenten hadn’t needed any convincing.
“A girl’s night?” she practically cried, just about tackling you to the ground in joy. “Yes, yes, of course, yes!” When you regained a moment to breathe, she glanced around at her two teammates, who had both stopped training when you arrived. “Please tell me it’s soon.”
“Ino’s place at six,” you relayed, “And she’s expecting everyone to be kinda dressed up.” Tenten squealed something about pants that was too high a decibel to hear. Lee raised his hand somewhere in the background.
“Can Neji and I come?” he asked, much to Neji’s complaint. You didn’t even have the opportunity to respond.
“It’s girl’s night, you idiot!”
Tenten threw something from her arsenal that had Lee diving to the ground.
You supposed she really needed a break from her team after all…
Hinata, on the other hand, required much more convincing.
“I, uh— I just don’t know. I wouldn’t know what to wear.” She played with the gravel under her boot. Hinata refused to look at you, clearly stressed about Ino’s orders for attire as you lounged on the Hyūga engawa, unbothered.
“If you’re worried, you could just wear what you usually wear,” you offered. While not what Ino intended, you assumed Hinata’s usual jacket would be better than her riling herself up and fainting over picking a new outfit.
“No!” she asserted, her sudden volume— well, volume for Hinata— surprising you enough to prop yourself up on your elbows. She cast her eyes back toward the ground. “I just, um— I don’t know…”
“I can help you pick out an outfit if you want.”
“Oh… I couldn’t ask you to do that.”
And so went the cycle until you finally strongarmed Hinata into finally letting you inside.
***
You arrived at Ino’s first. Inoichi appeared surprised, although not too shocked to see you on his doorstep. He greeted you warmly, stepping to the side to let you in.
“Another girl’s night?”
“Dad,” you heard Ino whine as you stepped into the entryway. She appeared down the hallway, hands in the middle of adjusting her hair as a bobby pin sat clenched between her teeth as she glared at him. “Go away!”
Inoichi laughed almost sheepishly, having been through all of this many times before. You took off your shoes.
“Girl’s night, I know, but at least let me make you some tea before you all head out.” You offered Inoichi a grateful smile as he retreated into the kitchen just as Ino made her way down the hall.
“Oh my god, is that new?” She gestured to your top. You were about to ask her the same thing. Her slim, violet blouse draped asymmetrically down one arm, and you could have sworn it would have been all she talked about if it were new. Ino walked a circle around you before pushing you fully into the apartment. “Please tell me you’ll let me borrow it next time?”
“Only if you tell me where you got yours from. Sheek seventies goddess!”
“Oh, thank you, thank you, you’re too kind.”
You sat down across from her at a small table. You remembered when the Yamanaka’s switched it out for a larger one, but the small table had remained close to the entryway. Ino immediately settled her cheek in her hand, kicking her feet lightly as she sat.
“It was actually Tenten’s if you’d believe it! She said she didn’t like the color, and I was like are you crazy?” Ino narrated. “But then again, I know she’s more of a warm-color babe, but I’m still trying to get her to get personally color-tested.”
You heard Inoichi shuffle around one of the corners, and Ino sprung up to meet him, shooing him off again before returning with your tea. The amber liquid sat in handmade ceramic mugs painted with natural colors. A little sugar bowl sat on the side, a smiley face drawn in the grains with the teaspoon.
***
The rest of your friends arrived fairly punctually, with Tenten arriving fifteen minutes before your scheduled time. (You supposed she really, really needed a break from her team.) Sakura and Hinata didn’t come a second late. After a round of fawning over outfits and eyeliner, you were off into the night to follow Ino’s detailed itinerary.
“Alright, everyone, I want pictures!”
“Ino, where did you even get that?”
Ino set a tiny camera on a nearby planter, propping it up by the shrub that sat inside. She quickly backed up to the four of you, nearly toppling Sakura to the ground. She grabbed Hinata by the arm, ready to pose.
“It’s on a timer, you guys, quick!” Ino exclaimed through gritted teeth, and with only a few seconds to spare, you all posed together for your first documented girl’s night. She even got a few more in by the time you decided it was time to head into the lounge.
The Silver Shurriken was the new lounge that opened up in the village’s downtown, and ever since its opening, Ino hadn’t been able to stop talking about it. You’ve all likely heard the menu several times— they specialized in Mizu no Kuni-style tapas— in addition to the wide selection of specialty mocktails. And for someone who was adamant about saying there was never anything to do in Konoha, Ino was over the moon.
Ino just about ordered everything, and as half of the table stared over at her with wide eyes, she flashed a fat wad of cash from her wallet.
“Don’t worry about it, girlies; dinner’s on Shikamaru tonight,” she announced with a wink.
“What the fuck, Ino! Where’d you get all that?” Sakura nearly spat out her water, leaning over to thumb through the stack in her hand. Ino fanned her smug expression with the stack before tucking it back inside her purse.
“Shikamaru’s mom doesn’t know about his new smoking habit.”
Tenten couldn’t help the single, boisterous laugh that jumped from her throat. She slammed a hand on the table.
“So you’re blackmailing him?”
Ino ran her fingers through her bangs, casting her almost guilty gaze off somewhere toward the ceiling. But as your food came to the table, the group grew distracted. Each of you eyed the small plates— one of everything came— and thanked your server in a chorus. Ino trailed off, forgetting what she was saying.
“I wouldn’t call it blackmail so much as…”
“As what?” Tenten snarked with another laugh, reaching to pull a seasoned pepper from one of the plates.
Ino frowned, a pout anchoring her lips downward as she slapped Tenten’s hand away with attitude and a roll of her eyes.
“Oh, you’re really questioning my methods when dinner and drinks are being paid for?”
She had a point.
With a motion of your brow, you held up your fruity mixed drink, a cracker with cheese halfway up to your lips.
“To Shikamaru’s nicotine addiction!”
You exchanged pointed eye contact with the other girls at the table before you all took a collective shrug. The other girls raised their glasses.
“To Shikamaru’s nicotine addiction!”
***
You barely made a crack at a quarter of what you ordered before you were interrupted.
“Sakura? Sakura Haruno?” A group of shinobi who were walking by stopped at your high top as they passed through, one tapping Sakura on the shoulder and nearly causing her to jump. You almost slapped his hand off of her, but she grabbed your wrist underneath the table.
“Eh, yes?” she smiled. You exchanged a glance with Ino, who took a dip from her drink, eyes flickering up and back toward her glass. Sakura’s hand left yours to intercept the shinobi’s, redirecting him expertly.
“I thought I recognized you!” He nearly burst into tears. “This angel right here saved my life!” He turned to proclaim to the rest of his friends, who you guessed were just about as drunk as he was. Only when the shinobi began to remove his shirt did your mutual glances turn into gapes of horror. By this time, the man actually was crying. “Got stabbed through the chest! I didn’t think I’d see the light of day again!”
Sure enough, there was a scar about three inches in length on the right side of his chest.
“Oh, well, thank you,” Sakura laughed cordially, though wearily. “I’m glad it’s healed well. Have a good night, boys.” A vein twitched on her forehead, clearly unenthused at having her work brought into her time off. As vexed as she was, she wasn’t about to get all of you kicked out of the Silver Shurriken.
“Tenten! Hey! We didn’t know you’d be here!” A voice that was unmistakably Lee carried loudly from the front entrance. Tenten immediately tensed. Facing away from the door, her eyes darted to you and Hinata as if to silently ask if what she feared was truly behind her. “Tenten!”
You soon realized that Lee wasn’t alone.
“Oh, hey, guys!” Naruto chimed, hands clasped together behind his head. Still engaged with the band of shinobi she had apparently saved the lives of, Sakura did a double take. “Fancy seeing you all here!”
“Lee told us you all were doing a girl’s night, so we decided to do a guy’s night!” Kiba barked. “It was meant to be!” As the guys settled into the table next to yours, Hinata flagged down your waiter to discreetly ask for a to-go box and the check.
“Hinata? Hinata, is that you?” Neji pushed through the group of guys with a stern scowl. “What are you doing here? Is this why you skipped this evening’s training?"
You didn’t know how it happened, but your entire girl’s night had devolved into chaos. Between the guys constantly trying to engage you from the table over to the line of people asking Sakura for medical advice, Tenten ripping Lee to shreds, and the fact that Hinata had apparently snuck out, your night had gone awry. Ino smacked someone who tried to touch her hair.
“Hey,” Hinata whispered. It was a miracle that you heard her. You turned, and to your surprise, your food was already packaged in boxes in her hands. A few reusable bottles clinked in the tote she slung over her shoulder, having poured your drinks in them under the table. You could only wonder where she learned that one. “Let’s go.” She gestured with her head.
With a series of rapid taps on the leg and pointed eye contact, you collected the girls quickly, each of you rising from your table with bags and jackets already in hand. Ino paid the check in full with a generous tip, ignoring protests from Shikamaru in the background. You hardly said goodbye, each of you scurrying out of the lounge as quickly as possible, pissed.
You regrouped outside. Ino nearly kicked over a potted plant.
“Can we just take a second to talk about—”
“That was unbelievable!” Tenten, who was likely the most flustered, exclaimed. “Like, what the actual fuck?” She buried her head in her hands. “I’m sorry, guys. I should have known something like this was going to happen. It’s my fault.”
You were all on her in an instant.
“Hey! Stop that!”
“No, it wasn’t your fault; it was just an unlucky night.”
“You didn’t do anything, Tenten!”
Ino sighed, starting back down the road with a defeated gait.
“So… back to my place?” she sighed, glancing over her shoulder at the rest of you. You began to follow, but Sakura stayed, looking off toward the Hokage building. A single night continued to illuminate one of the upstairs offices.
“Is Lady Tsunade still working?” she mused with knitted brows. “That can’t be right.”
“She was when I dropped off my mission report before I went to Ino’s,” Hinata chimed, coming up next to Sakura with your packaged food still in hand. Sakura turned to the rest of you with a sympathetic expression. Ino puffed up immediately.
“Oh, no! No! I know what you’re about to say, and no!” She pointed a finger rudely, having her hands in the air as if to physically ward off Sakura’s unspoken idea. “Tsunade is the whole reason why we’re having a girl’s night out in the first place! To forget about work!”
“I know she’s been crabby as of late, but if she’s been staying late handling all the village paperwork, that’s probably why.” Sakura’s lip turned downward into a pout. “It would be a nice thing to do. We have plenty of food.”
“I think a night in would be a great idea. Things around here have been pretty hectic.” Hinata nodded, holding up the stack of boxes. “We certainly have enough.”
“Shizune is probably still in there,” you said, causing Tenten to noticeably wince.
“Yikes.”
Much to Ino’s deflation, it appeared a consensus was made.
***
Tsunade looked exhausted. A cup of coffee sat in front of her, and while she appeared awake enough to get her paperwork done, you could see the fatigue in her eyes. Shizune was just about dozing off at a table pushed to the side of the room. Tonton was asleep at her feet.
“Huh?” Tsunade sounded at the opening of her office doors. She stood alert, her reading glasses at the tip of her nose. “What happened? Why are you all here so late?” She came around her desk, studying you with intent concern.
“We saw you were still working,” Sakura started, gesturing to the leftovers you brought from the Silver Shurriken. “And we were doing a bit of a girl’s night.” You watched as Tsunade’s expression appeared to soften.
“And we brought food!” You smiled, ushering the rest of you farther into the office. Shizune sat up from her desk in acute surprise, delayed in registering everything. Tsunade’s neutral expression slowly morphed from acute concern to pleasantly surprised.
“It’s from the new lounge that opened up downtown,” Ino added.
“Oh,” she said, a spurring noise in the back of her throat as she fought for words to say, “Thank you. Here, let me put down a blanket. We can sit.” Tsunade scurried off to a corner of the office with a certain amount of giddiness.
You helped her set out the green blanket before you sat down together. Hinata opened all the containers as Shizune ransacked the cabinets for a few paper plates. You all ate together, your girl’s night not ruined after all.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

sasuke x f!reader
warnings: gore/violence, angst, canon-divergent (instead of sasuke leaving he just disappeared; the reader takes the place of sakura but with different jutsus/skills. i also diverged from the original story of the fairytale a bit)
notes: i recently watched the movie belle (i highly recommend it!) and i absolutely fell in love with it. i thought sasuke would be a perfect fit for a beauty and the beast retelling, so i took a few liberties with the source material. enjoy!

You were confident you’d never been more anxious in your entire life. Even your first mission felt like a walk in the park compared to the fear that currently had a vice grip on your entire body. Your heart pounded in your ears so loud you doubted you’d even be able to hear your name get called. Your chest hurt with such a ferocity that it felt as if something was slowly cracking your ribs one by one. Your hands shook so much you could barely pull the scroll out of your pocket to check (for the fifth time) if you were in the right place at the right time.
There had to have been some kind of mistake, you thought to yourself, heart leaping into your throat at the sight of Shizune, I’m nowhere near strong enough to be going on a mission like this.
“I’m glad you could make it here on such short notice, (Name). I know this is all a bit sudden, but I figured you were the best person to take on a mission like this.”
All you could do was bow and utter a meek, “Of course, m’lady.”
“Let’s get down to business then. We’ve been fielding more and more complaints about people on the outskirts of the village seeing some sort of monster moving through the trees at all hours of the day. A few brave—in my opinion stupid—souls have tried to catch it, but not a single one has even gotten close.”
“Is that where I come in?” You asked timidly.
The Hokage nodded. “I need you to patrol the outskirts and see if you can catch a glimpse of what’s been terrorizing the villagers. You’ll be leaving with Sai and Naruto tomorrow afternoon. But (Name),” the Hokage beckoned you closer, lowering her voice slightly, “you have to promise me that you won’t tell Naruto why you’re in the village.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“I’ve told Sai the same. There’s a chance this could provide us with a lead on the disappearance of Sasuke Uchiha, and we can’t have Naruto, well...”
“Being Naruto?”
“Exactly. I trust you and Sai will be more than equipped to handle this, but still exercise caution and use your best discretion. We don’t want anyone else disappearing, got it?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Good.” As you turned to leave, the Hokage spoke one last time. “Be careful, (Name). I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for.”
*
Lady Tsunade’s final words rang in your head every sleepless hour that led up to your departure. What you were looking for, what you had always been looking for, was Sasuke. You were the last person to see him before his untimely disappearance, and the weight of it had crushed you ever since. No matter how good of a kunoichi you’d become there was a constant grey cloud hanging over your head—the belief held among many of Konoha’s citizens that you were the reason its brightest star had suddenly disappeared from the sky.
You guessed it was why Lady Tsunade had given you the mission in the first place. She and Kakashi were the only people you had confided in about the relentless ridicule you’d been subjected to, so she knew better than anybody else how much it meant to you. It was why now, as you stood at the village gates waiting for Sai and Naruto to arrive, you felt as if the dango you’d eaten for lunch was about to rise back up from your turning stomach.
“Hey (Name)! What’s wrong? Aren’t you excited to be going on a mission? You talked to Granny Tsunade yesterday, right? How’d it go?”
All you could do was blink in response to Naruto’s rapid-fire questions. Your eyes drifted over to Sai, noting that he looked just as lost as you did.
“Good afternoon, (Name). You seem to be upset, is there something you would like to talk about?”
“No, but thank you Sai.” You gave him a kind smile. “We should probably get going so we can get settled before ni—“ Sai shot you a dangerous look. “Before it gets too dark out. We’ll need to find a place to stay for the night before we do anything else.”
“Good idea, (Name). You and I can take up the rear. Naruto, how about you take the lead and start heading toward the outskirts.”
“Who died and made you leader?” Naruto remarked with a huff, starting with a leisurely pace toward the treeline in the distance.
“Thank you, Sai,” You said once Naruto was out of earshot, beginning to bound through the trees a safe distance behind him.
“Lady Tsunade informed me of the importance of this mission to you. I don’t know what kind of bond you two shared, but it seems that he means a great deal to you. Am I correct?”
You nodded. “He was my best friend. I...”
You swallowed thickly, the words dying in your throat. He was more than just your best friend or your teammate or your partner. For all of your shyness and all of his aloofness, it seemed you two were the only ones who understood each other. When you were young you’d been a calm, united force against the arrogance and unpredictability of Naruto; as you’d grown older you each became powerful in your own rights, but had never entirely abandoned each other.
Until.
“You’re much quieter than usual. It said in my book that often times subjects like this can be difficult for people to discuss, even if many years have gone by since it happened. I hope that you’ll be able to find Sasuke again, (Name).”
The rest of the journey was spent in silence, your mind racing with thoughts. You had never entertained the thought of what might happen once you saw Sasuke again. It was always too painful, the wound always too fresh. Even now you felt a pain stab at your chest, but you couldn’t stop your mind from venturing to the thought. Would he remember you? Would he recognize you? You’d cut your hair since then, gained muscle, learned how to master the water change in chakra nature. You were different now, yet at the same time you felt as if you had remained exactly the same.
Even more concerning, would you recognize him? How much had he changed from the boy you’d promised to see tomorrow all those years ago? In your more heartbroken moments you allowed yourself to try and imagine what he would look like now, but what if you’d been wrong? What if he was unrecognizable? Would you still feel the same as you did then?
“Hey! (Name)!”
Naruto’s voice snapped you away from your doubts, bringing you to a screeching halt at the village’s outskirts. Sparse houses dotted the landscape, broken up by a few shops and restaurants that paled in comparison to the village proper. Lady Tsunade had arranged for the three of you to stay at a merchant’s house while he was off selling his products in another village, and Sai had been entrusted with the key a day prior to your departure.
He led the way to the modest home near the forest, which upon entering was found to be immaculately cleaned and finely furnished. Naruto immediately threw himself into a plush armchair, sitting back in it while Sai scolded him for disrespecting the house.
“I think I’ll go rest for a bit if you two don’t mind.” You exchanged a look with Sai, making sure that he understood you’d be sleeping before you departed that night to look for the monster.
“I’ll let you know when we’ve returned from talking to the villagers. Rest well.”
You awoke to Sai standing in your doorway, his hand raised and a smile on his face. “You’re awake.”
“Yeah, I managed to wake up on my own, but thank you for checking on me. Is Naruto asleep?”
“He just left for the bath house a few moments ago. I think I’ll join him. I wanted to stop by here and make sure you were awake first, and it seems you are, so I’ll be on my way. Please be careful while you’re patrolling, I wouldn’t want to get on Lady Tsunade’s bad side again.”
You smiled, thanking Sai once again before he left. You pulled on your shoes and gathered your weapons, taking a deep breath before setting out into the night. The wind that met your face upon opening the door was pleasantly cool, marking the beginning of the shift from summer to autumn. It helped to wake you as you disappeared into the forest, bounding between trees while keeping your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary.
After an hour of searching all you’d come up with was a spider in your shoe and an overwhelming sense of defeat. You slumped back in a tree and sighed, wondering if Lady Tsunade had sent you on little more than a wild goose chase. As you rested your mind drifted to Sasuke, thinking of the low-rank missions you had gone on together as genin. It had always been the two of you taking care of the actual objective while Naruto got distracted, same as it was with you and Sai now.
But you knew better than anyone all the ways that it hadn’t been the same for a single second since Sasuke had disappeared. In his wake he had left a gaping absence, a black hole that got closer to consuming you with every day that passed by. You hated it. Hated the feeling of waking up and knowing he wasn’t there, that for all you knew he would never be there again. Hated the way the villagers whispered about you, the way that they feared and reviled you. You who had shot their brightest star right from the sky. You who was no better than the Akatsuki members—why didn’t you just join them? It seemed you would fit right in.
Yet for some reason you dug your heels in and kept stubbornly defending the Leaf, taking any mission that someone was kind enough to give you. No matter how dangerous it was, you had to prove that you were better than the rumors. You had to prove that you were strong enough to get Sasuke back. It hadn’t been a mistake that you were the one left behind, you just had to bring him back and—
Something moved beyond the tree line.
You readied a kunai and slowly crept toward the shadowy figure in the distance. It was still for the time being, resting in what seemed to be a crouch. Its shape was unlike anything you’d seen before, the distance and darkness making it hard to pick out any specific details. Just as its image became clearer it stood up, quickly bounding toward a point in the distance.
You immediately followed after it, breaking out through the trees to follow it on foot. You tried to move as quietly as possible, hoping that you could stay far enough behind it that it wouldn’t sense your presence. You could now see that it had a pair of massive, grotesque wings that looked like a pair of fleshy claws. It was vaguely humanoid, with a mane of thick black hair that bounced against its back as it ran. You allowed yourself to draw closer to it, making sure your footsteps were quiet enough that it couldn’t hear you. A pang of fear pricked at your chest when you realized there was a chance whatever creature this was could sense chakra, but it was too late now to implement any sort of measures to conceal yourself.
You matched the creature’s every step, following the winding path it took with a grim determination. It was leading you further and further away from the village, which you could only guess was a deliberate move. The longer you travelled the more you could begin to see the landscape change, the empty grassland giving way to what appeared to be an abandoned village. The creature’s pace began to quicken, obviously drawing nearer to its destination. You took the opportunity to slow down and duck behind one of the empty houses, watching as the creature made its way to an expansive house in the distance.
As you drew nearer to the house you began to realize just how impressive it was. It was built much like any other house you’d seen in the Leaf, though far more elaborate and ornate. It was more well-maintained than it should have been, and as you passed through its front gate you were amazed to see that all the structures of it were seemingly intact.
You walked along the corridor enclosing the central garden, peering into any doors that had been left ajar as you searched for any sign of where the creature had disappeared to. You could sense a distant chakra somewhere in the house, but every time you got closer to it it seemed to disappear completely. You sighed and stopped for a moment, walking through an open door into a wide, empty room with a few dusty pillows and a shredded tatami mat in it. You took a seat in the least cobweb-covered area of the room, giving yourself a moment to rest and collect yourself before you continued the search.
Just as you lowered yourself to the ground you heard a loud crash from the other side of the house followed by a sharp yell. You ran toward the source of the noise, ducking into one of the rooms to hide as you looked for the source of the noise. You could hear the wood floors creaking, heavy footsteps drawing closer and closer to your location....
“YOU!” The growling roar of the creature’s voice filled your ears, making your instinctively shrink back and press your back into one of the corners of the room.
You hurled a kunai at its chest, watching in horror as the creature deflected it and appeared in front of you. It reached a hand out to wrap around your neck, slamming you back into the wall hard enough to make your teeth rattle. You tried desperately to cast a jutsu that could get you out of its grasp, but before long your vision began to ebb and all you could think to do was claw at its hands in an attempt to grant your survival.
“Why have you come here?” You continued to grasp at its hand. “Answer me!”
“You...you’re....”
Your head swam, blotches of blurred black occupying more and more of your vision. You stared into the eyes of the creature, knowing it would be your last sight before you inevitably died by its hands. And when you looked into them, a single thought occupied your mind:
Sasuke.
*
You could remember the first day you’d met Sasuke Uchiha like it was yesterday. Unlike the rest of the girls in Konoha you weren’t immediately enamored with him—in fact, you’d thought he was a bit of a stuck-up jerk. You were convinced the only reason he’d passed the tests was because of his natural talent, and you resented him for already being regarded as the best. You’d spent months training to pass the test, spending hours upon hours studying your family’s water-style jutsus in order to get a spot on a team.
It wasn’t until after your first mission that you realized you had more in common with Sasuke than you’d previously believed. On your journey back from the Land of Waves the two of you had gotten to know each other, and you felt hopeful that the two of you would become good friends.
As the months passed you and Sasuke began to forge a bond that would eventually lead to your current heartbreak. The more he opened up to you the more you fell for him, and the more you believed that you would have a real chance at a future with him.
You were so sure, in fact, that you had made a plan to ask him out on a date the day he’d disappeared. You’d worn your favorite dress and gotten a bouquet of the prettiest flowers you could find from Ino’s family’s shop, deciding you would ask him to meet you at Ichiraku so the two of you could talk.
You had waited there for two hours.
The shop owner had given you a free bowl of ramen when you had slumped into one of the seats, barely holding back tears as you picked your way through a bowl of tonkotsu. You wordlessly returned the flowers to Ino on your way back to your house, sniffling your way into your room without a word to anyone about what had happened. You didn’t know how long you laid in bed and cried, but to you it felt like an eternity.
The sun was beginning to set when you finally dragged yourself out of bed to look for him, hoping that maybe Kakashi had passed him by in the village at some point that day. When you asked him he awkwardly asked if you had been crying, abandoning his inquiry as soon as your lip began to quiver. He’d told you he’d help you look and you made him promise to keep it a secret from Naruto, following him into the village with a heaviness to your heart.
Four hours passed before you concluded that he was simply gone. The last thing you’d said to him was that you couldn’t wait to see him again. Now the words felt like knives buried in your chest, stabbing at you as you fell to your knees and sobbed at the village gates.
Weeks would pass without any sign of Sasuke, and each day that elapsed more rumors began to spread. You became something of a recluse, burying yourself in your training in order to fill the hole that had been left in your life. You’d barely even cared when Kakashi told you and Naruto you’d be getting a new partner—what did it matter, anyway? You liked Sai well enough but you had to agree with Naruto (something you would never admit to out loud), there was no replacing the empty space Sasuke’s disappearance had left behind.
And now here you were, staring into the same red eyes whose powers you had once resented, now buried within the face of something you had described as a monster.
You were surprised to awaken in one of the rooms of the house, watching as sunlight illuminated your surroundings. The door connecting the room to the rest of the house was firmly shut and sealed, and the windows all had paper bombs attached to them so they couldn’t open. Save for a few cobwebs in the corners the room was relatively clean, and it was furnished with a dilapidated futon and a few pillows. There was a small box tucked into the back right corner of the room which held two days’ worth of food and water and what you swore were the shedded scales of a snake.
Whatever—or whoever—that creature was had forced you to stay here, but it seemed as if it wasn’t doing it out of pure cruelty. You would formulate a way to escape nonetheless, hoping you’d be able to make it back to the village before anyone went looked for you. But perhaps even more importantly than that you couldn’t rest until you saw the creature again. Its eyes....you knew they were Sasuke’s. You didn’t want to think about how it had come to possess them, but you had to keep grasping onto the hope that he was still alive somewhere in there.
A day passed before you made a plan, and it wasn’t until night fell that you began to implement it. You were to cast your tidal wave jutsu directly at the door, hoping that one point-blank blast would be enough to break the wood and free you. You took your place at the opposite side of the room and began to cast it, stopping when you heard footsteps approaching. You lowered your hands and sunk down against the wall, sitting as if you’d been there for hours on end.
The door slowly slid open, and before the creature could stop you you cast the jutsu and bolted for the door. You ran as fast as you could down the corridor, taking a sharp left and landing yourself in the western edge of the house. There was a single room tucked into the corner that you took the opportunity to hide in, flinging the door open as the creature closed the distance between you.
The room seemed to be in a more severe state of disrepair than the rest of the house, and the sight of it gave you a pause that you knew would surely cost you your life. There was a single dust-covered window in the room whose light shone upon a single iridescent white snake, curled up and sleeping in the room’s center. You saw the shadow of the creature blot out the light, throwing a kunai at it to buy you enough time to escape.
You ran from the house and into the empty area that surrounded it, heart pounding in your chest as you made your way for the village. You could hear the distant bark of wild dogs growing closer, fear in your eyes as you watched them skid to a halt and surround you. You tried to distract them with shadow clones, but their ferocity made quick work of them. Your hands were shaking far too badly to properly cast any justus, and you could feel in your heart that this would be the place where your story finally came to a close.
You watched in fear as the creature grabbed you and pushed you behind it, taking a harsh slash to the chest from one of the dogs as its hands moved to cast a jutsu. Your heart lurched as you watched the creature cast a fireball, falling to its knees as the grass in front of it caught flame. With the last of its strength the creature grabbed you and gave its fleshy wings a flap, taking off from the ground and starting back toward the house.
It began to rapidly lose altitude as its wounds gushed blood until it finally fell just beyond the front gates of the house. You carried it the rest of the way, heart pounding in your chest as you took it back to the room you’d been held in. You sat in the room for what felt like hours, casting a healing jutsu on its wounds until you could no longer physically sustain it.
You collapsed by the creature’s side, tears prickling in the corners of your eyes as you finally allowed yourself to take a good look at it. In the fading light of the day you could see that scars had formed across its muted brown skin, and that it’s clothes had been torn in the fight. You sucked in a breath before directing your gaze to its face, heavy tears slipping down your cheeks as you took in the sight. Buried under the thick black markings across its face and the strange color to its lips you saw him.
You saw Sasuke.
The longer he slept the more his features began to return to their normal state, as if whatever jutsu had been cast upon him was reversing itself in midst of the peace of sleep. The man who laid before you looked as you had always imagined him, just as beautiful as you’d remembered him. The sight made you ache, knowing what would return once he awoke. You had no idea what this curse was or why it had been placed on him, but you were determined to do whatever it took to reverse it.
You sat with Sasuke until he woke up, hating to see the way his features shifted back into the monster’s as he sat up and looked around the room.
“You. You’re still here.” He touched the scars along his chest, looking back up at you. “Why did you save me?”
“I...” Your breath caught in your throat. Why was it suddenly so hard to talk to him? “I couldn’t just leave you to die.”
“So you carried me all the way back here? And for what? So you can feel a sense of accomplishment? Or was it to ensure that I was wounded and wouldn’t attack you again?”
Tears welled in your eyes. You reflexively leaned back, pulling your gaze away from the venomous look in Sasuke’s eyes. “I-I healed you best I could—”
He scoffed at you in response. “So what is it then? Have you been sent to torture me with the hope that something might change?”
Your lip began to quiver. “I just want to help you, Sasuke, please.”
For a moment, he paused. You shifted away from him, worried for what would happen next. “What did you just call me?”
“S-Sasuke.”
“How do you know my name?” He barked, looking as if he were ready to attack at a moment’s notice.
“Y-you don’t remember me?”
You could barely swallow back the sob that tore its way out of you, your chest aching as a hand clasped over your mouth. How could he not remember you? Had you just been fooling yourself, childishly tricking your mind into believing that you meant something to him? Had you honestly thought that you could save him? You, the weakest one among all of Team 7. You who had tried so hard to shine as brightly as Naruto or Sasuke, but who could never even be a star in Konoha’s sky. You who had so naively believed that life was like some kind of fairytale, that all it would take was true love’s kiss to reverse years of heartache and torment.
You who thought you were something more than what you are.
“Answer me.”
You tried to stand up, tried to run away and become the coward you always knew yourself to be, but felt Sasuke’s hand wrap around your wrist and grip it tight. He pulled you back down to a sitting position, holding you so tightly that you couldn’t move.
“I...” Hot, heavy tears now streamed down your cheeks, and your voice came out as a raspy whisper. “Sasuke you have to remember me. Please.”
His claws dug into your skin. “Who the hell are you?”
“(Name),” You stammered, heart hammering in your chest.
Sasuke’s eyes narrowed. He studied you, your chakra, your clothes and everything that sat trembling before him. His scrutinizing gaze bore into you, laying you bare, breaking you down to your simplest of pieces.
You were nothing more than a foolish girl who had wandered here believing that there was no force in the universe greater than love.
How wrong you had been.
Because it was hate that made beads of blood bloom against your skin. It was hate that manifested in two red eyes tearing you apart with more sting than the sharpest kunai. It was hate that had morphed the beautiful into the grotesque. It was hate that had wiped the slate clean, that had erased a life you’d thought you built. It was hate, all consuming and never ending.
“Please let me go. I’ll leave and I won’t come back. I won’t tell anyone that you’re here, just please...”
“No.”
“No?”
“You’re different. But your chakra is the same.”
No waves of relief washed over you. Only a sick feeling deep in your stomach, heavy and dark  and thick as storm clouds. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him, too afraid that you might see a shadow of his past self looking back at you. Any hope you’d once had that he would look at you with the same softened look he had before evaporated the moment he’d awoken. All you hoped for now was that you would make it out of here alive.
He loosened his grip on your hand. “How did you know I was here?”
How much did you want to tell him? “There....there were reports of-of something on the outskirts of the village....”
“So they sent you here to investigate?”
You nodded. “I didn’t want to hurt you, I promise. I-I didn’t even know it was you until...”
You stopped yourself. Until I looked into your eyes. The curse of the Uchiha clan, always so beautiful to you. How many times had the power of those eyes saved you? How many more times did you think they would? Were you ready to let them destroy you too?
“Why have you come here?” His voice had softened considerably, though it still held an edge of skepticism. His hand still held you in place, though no longer tight enough to make you bleed. And you, you were still terrified of him. You didn’t believe in any of this, not in the way you should have. Not in the way you had when you’d followed him here.
To save you, Sasuke. To bring you home.
Sasuke let go. “Why did it take so long?”
You finally looked up at Sasuke. You saw beneath all that he had become. You saw that he was still the boy you snuck out to see, dancing across the rooftops of Konoha to the sweet melodies carried on the nighttime air. He was still the person you dreamt of every night, conjuring all manners of fantastical scenarios for your reunion. He was a monster now, yes, but this wasn’t the fate he would be resigned to.
“I didn’t think I would ever find you again.” Your voice had returned, however small, your cheeks still shimmering with tracks of tears. “But I hoped I would. I never stopped looking for a sign that you were still alive.”
“But why? I would think by now you would’ve given up.”
“I-I couldn’t. I guess....” you sighed, “I guess I just couldn’t accept the fact that you were gone. The truth is, well...”
I love you, Sasuke. That’s why I never stopped looking for you. I’ve loved you since we were kids. Not a single day has gone by where I haven’t dreamed of what it would be like to see you again. How stupid is that? I had always hoped this would be something magical but at this point I just wish you’d tell me to get lost. Please stop being so nice to me, it’ll only make what happens next hurt worse.
“Well?”
You couldn’t bring yourself to say it. Your hands fidgeted restlessly in your lap, eyes darting to the ground the second he looked at you. After all that had transpired you couldn’t even open your mouth, the words dying in your throat every time you tried to force yourself to get them out.
A heavy silence settled between you and Sasuke. Did he know? Did he feel the same? Was he just waiting for you to say it, readying himself to reject you? Would the blow come soft, or would it hit harder than any jutsu that had been flung your way? You weren’t ready for the answers—but then again, you doubted that you ever would be.
So in a moment of what would prove to either be pure stupidity or shocking boldness, you planted a hand on the floor, leaned forward, and pressed your lips into Sasuke’s.
It felt as if time had frozen around you. Sasuke was motionless between your lips, so still that you cracked your eyes open to see if he was even there. Each second felt like an hour, ticking by at an excruciating pace. Just as you began to pull away in shame you felt his lips slowly press back against yours, a hand sliding up to gently cup your cheek.
You leaned into him, his touch like pure electricity against your skin. It was utter bliss; everything you had ever dreamed of and more. When you finally opened your eyes and pulled away there was a moment where you felt as if you were in the twilight of sleep, worried that this was all some kind of cruel dream meant to distract you from the fact that you were still trapped somewhere in the house. But when you looked at Sasuke you knew this was as real as anything, a truth even greater than fiction.
“Sasuke, you’re...”
“An act of true love.”
"What?”
“The person who cast this jutsu on me, the one who trapped me in this form, they said that the only thing that could reverse it was an act of true love. They said I would be stuck like this forever because no one would ever be able to defeat the hate in my heart. But you, (Name), you...”
“I always did, Sasuke. Every single moment, I never once stopped.”
Sasuke collapsed into your arms, no longer forced to bear the weight of what his past had forced him to become. You didn’t expect things to go back to the way they were, you knew that was foolish, but you did hope that the future the two of you would forge together would be a brighter one than the one you had long ago forced yourself to make peace with.
In a few days’ time you would return to Konoha with Sasuke in tow. You knew there would be celebration, but you’d make sure he had time to recover first. You would make a bed for him on your couch or in your room or wherever he wanted to be, and you would go to sleep every night knowing that he was safe by your side once again. You couldn’t know exactly what would come in the weeks and months and years that followed, but you hoped that you would get the chance to spend them by Sasuke’s side.
For now, though, it was enough knowing that he knew. It was enough to have said it without saying it, despite—or more likely because of—all that had happened. You held Sasuke close for as long as he needed, letting go once he sat up to look at you.
“I always hoped it would be you that found me.” Sasuke’s eyes couldn’t quite meet yours. “I thought...I thought that you were the only one who could possibly break the jutsu.”
You blinked. In all this time, had he wished for you the way you had him? Did he dream of this future too? Did it comfort him, or scare him? Had he believed you wouldn’t come, and was that why he lashed out the way he did? Was he scared of what would happen when you saw him not for who he was, but for what he’d become? Was he scared that you wouldn’t love him?
“I’m glad I found you, Sasuke.”
“I’m glad you did too.”
You pressed another kiss into his lips, savoring the taste as if it would somehow disappear again.
“Let’s go home, (Name).”

“Why hello, Lord fifth,” I’d never get tired of saying those words, popping my head into Obito’s office, halting at the sight of his head laying on the desk.
“You don’t have to be so formal, Y/N,” He mumbled into the desk, clearly tired out from his day.
“But I like saying that,” I skipped in, coming to rub his back and deliver good news, “On a good note, no more paperwork and you have nothing else to take care of for the night.”
“That’s a relief,” He sighed, eye closing with a soft smile while I continued to rub up and down his back.
“I know you’ve had a lot on your plate lately, so how about you come over to my place for dinner and you can relax?”
Sitting up with a bigger smile, it spread to my face too, standing up and stretching:
“Please! I’d could use some good food.”
“And I’ll make that happen,” Kissing his cheek and taking his hand, his cheeks were red just from that, following me eagerly.
We didn’t have a far walk to my home, heading over and I made sure that he laid back on the couch to unwind while I headed to kitchen and prepared his favorite meal.
There wasn’t a second where he wasn’t smiling, sitting at dinner and venting to me about some of his duties as we ate.
I listened with open ears, trying to give him some advice as I did help along him along with Kakashi, who was his advisor.
Once his plate was cleared, I gave him a nice cold drink, sitting back on the couch while I washed the dishes.
“I just want you to know, Y/N. I appreciate you so much,” Obito murmured from the couch, looking back to see he was spacing out a little.
“I’d do anything for you,” I cooed sweetly while drying my hands, noticing that he was in a deep thought and so, heading behind where he was sitting, massaging his shoulders deeply and asking softly, “Something still on your mind?”
He was quiet, not sure what to say, and I wanted him to be in a happy place rather than lost in thought, leaning down to his ear and whispering sweetly:
“If there’s anything I can do, Obito, just tell me.”
Melting back against the couch, he took my hand to guide me around to him, rather bold for a change and sitting me on his thigh.
“Kiss me, again?”
Now it made sense why he was spacing out. He was just nervous to ask. I should’ve expected it considering how we were crossing into a new relationship.
“That’s all you had to say,” I giggled, holding his cheek and resting against his chest as I kissed him.
Instantly, he was even more relaxed, hugging me while our kiss grew more tender, getting lost and body natural flowing over to straddle him.
His legs were shaking from my kisses working down to his neck, squeezing me as I felt his erection against me, grinding slowly against it.
“Hey,” I whispered, making him look to me, assuring there was nothing wrong with his feelings, “Relax. If you want me to take care of that too, I gladly will.”
“I just can’t help it,” He whispered back, gripping harder while my hips kept moving.
“Nothing wrong with that,” Slipping my hand down and palming him, I meant whole heartedly, “I just want to make you happy, Obito.”
“You do, Y/N,” Huffing out his words, I noticed that, screw it, look in his eyes, bear hugging me and kissing me so hungrily and powerfully, “I love you.”
“I love you too-oh!”
Pushing us down to the couch on my back, he was losing control in the best way, a grind of his own so blissful, kisses a bit sloppy but full of love that made me ready for more.
“Let’s go to my room?” I slipped from my tongue, clinging to him as he picked me up nodding, carrying me straight to my bed.
Dropped on the bed, we both started stripping out of our clothes, Obito freezing once I was fully naked, but slowly smiling.
“Come here, baby,” I cooed, taking his hands to feel my skin, offering myself to him, “This is all yours. Do whatever you want to me.”
His hands started roam on their own, unable to help himself and leave kisses all over me, skin meeting with steam as neither of us didn’t want to wait anymore.
“Oh my god,” He gasped, sharing my moan, needing to watch his cock slip into, being so careful and gentle.
He was only feeding so much, watching my reactions, and I tried to help take that nervousness away by pulling his hip towards me some:
“You’re not gonna break me, you know.”
“I know that,” He sighed, but giggling with me, running his face between my breasts, “I just want to take my time with you.”
Before getting the chance to speak, my jaw hung at how full I was, our hips finally meeting and making a lewd moan come out of me.
“Obito-“ I started clinging to him because of how suddenly my body heated up, his head coming back up to mine:
“You like that more?”
“Mhm!” Keeping my legs back further to let him go deeper, my moans started flooding the room as he moved quicker, hitting just the right spot.
“Damn, your moans are beautiful,” Whispering under his breath, he was bottoming me out almost every time, able to handle the speed and keep me moaning through and through.
I didn’t even realize how much of a mess I was, lost in another world for so long till I felt his forehead against mine, hearing muffled pants, peaking to see him nawing his lip.
“You okay?” Holding his head, he nodded frantically, holding the pillow that was resting my head, thrusts growing harder and shaking us.
“I just wanna feel you one more time,” He said quickly before biting his lip again, getting what he wanted with a few more thrusts, building up the pressure in a flash, having my eyes rolling with a cry of his name as the steaming coil of heat in my stomach snapped:
“O-Ooh! Obito!”
“Shit,” His voice grew deep, nearly collapsing onto of me, gasping at the same time when a new heat took over us, feeling it pour inside of me, “Oh shi-“
“It’s okay, Obito. It’s okay,” I stumbled out, this bliss sending me into a sweet spiral that I didn’t mind in the slights, hand roaming to his hip and keeping it pinned to mine, “That was sooo good.”
“Yeah?” He chuckled a little at my tired nod and smile, kissing my cheek, “Only right to make you feel as good as you make me.”

Red String of Fate (2/2)
Kakashi Hatake x gn!Reader
Prompt: Soulmate AU
Word Count: 2,8k
Summary: Rokudaime Hokage Hatake Kakashi has a soulmate, and they are coming closer.
Ao3 , part one
Tumblr media
By the time he was an adult, Hatake Kakashi had become a firm believer in the fact that everyone had a soulmate. It was not the academy that had taught him this, but rather the life he had lived so far and his surroundings, the people he got to meet, and the people who became dear to him. No longer did he pretend that the connection did not exist or evade it through the usage of several excuses to not discuss the topic.
Conversation about it had become easier, but still left a heavy taste behind on his tongue.
Looking back on his month-long mission to protect a pregnant Uzumaki Kushina, he was now glad to have been confronted with the topic of soulmates. The love his sensei and his wife shared for one another was breathtaking, something he should have appreciated in his youth and not turned his nose away from. Their love, the one he had always described being too-much, it was the same thing he yearned for in his many dreams.
Tangled in his own shuriken decorated sheets, the bed made for two felt too big for only one. With his eyes wide open, Kakashi could only stare at the ceiling, otherwise not moving much. His back sank into the mattress the moment he had laid down on it, his limbs doing the same after sprawling out to cover less space than there actually was for him alone.
A heavy sigh escaped his lips, his muscles almost aching as did his joints from the exhaustion of a day of work weighing down on him. From the peripheral of his vision, he could see a familiar stack of books calling out to him, begging for his slender fingers to pick up and open, to indulge in during the quiet night.
He never did and instead let his mind wander, the faint glow of a string tied around one of his fingers drawing him in. It somewhat reminded him of the glow his Sharingan used to have. When open, it brought a bit of light into the darkness of his room at the cost of his chakra.
Now it was gone, and he no longer was Kakashi of the Sharingan. The days of Kakashi the Copy Ninja were over, and the times of the Sixth Hokage of Konoha had begun.
It was a drastic change that did not come welcomed at first. For months on end, even long after his head had been added to the Hokage Mountain already, sitting beside the calm facade of the Fifth Hokage Senju Tsunade, he had avoided the responsibility he was to take on. As he no longer carried his defining feature, so did his confidence in being the village’s leader crumble along with his loss.
At that point, Kakashi hadn’t felt capable to lead the village into better days, and it made him question if he could have taken care of his soulmate at that time. Now, some time into his reign as the Hokage, he was glad not to have had someone by his side during that time. While then, he had practically yearned for a companion other than his dogs to stand by him and to support him, to be his anchor. Now he knew that having someone he considered his other half may have been more destructive than anything else.
Maybe there was the possibility that they could have helped him majorly, whoever it was with whom he was connected so intimately. That they would have listened to his thoughts and complaints, to the way he mulled over his new role in the village for nights on end, getting no sleep. Things could have been different, but fate had not wanted for them to be.
Mindlessly, Kakashi pulled on the glowing string around his finger, only to feel it tighten drastically. In his position, the silver-haired Hokage froze, his index and middle finger pressing down onto the thin string. His breath had hitched simultaneously, and his pair of charcoal eyes widened. Shock coursed through his veins and almost left him breathless, practically begging for air.
Could it be?
The first thing Kakashi told himself was that he was merely delusional. His constant dreaming of his other half, whoever they may be, must have brought him to the brink of his imagination. Dreams became vivid and mixed up with the bitter reality of things. That was what he concluded, that he was hallucinating, in a state of an illusional. The sensation he felt, the stiffness of the string, could only be phantasmagoric, a fragment of his hopes.
Kakashi felt almost scared to pull on the string and test his theory. If he were to pull on it now, and it went entirely slack, no longer resisting against his fingers but instead curling around them, he was not sure what he would do.
Would he cry?
Would he mourn someone he had never gotten to know?
Or would he simply continue to stare at the ceiling of his bedroom, sleep in his lonely bed made for two, and live his life as he always did?
Life would never be the same as it was without the red string tied around his finger. The fact that once he tested his theory, once he pulled again, the reality of things was to be revealed to him, that fact was what scared him.
His fingers almost trembled as he shut his eyes tightly, making sure to focus on the sensation of the string. He wouldn’t want to miss anything, after all.
The first pull he made was tentative, testing. Not much happened except for the string feeling tighter around his finger than it ever did before, the sensation making the silver-haired gasp. In the silence of his room, the singular sound echoed before vanishing again, leaving behind his growing confidence.
The second pull brought the tug of a smile to his lips. The string did not fall slack, not like his countless nightmares had always taunted him would happen, but instead resisted. It was a new sensation, one that got his heart to harshly thump against his chest. He breathed in shakily, taking a moment to calm himself.
It couldn’t be …
In all his decades of living, never did Kakashi feel the string be so tight around his finger. Not even during his countless attempts to meet his soulmate, his other half, did the pressure become so strong. Never before had he felt so close to whoever it was moving toward him. It was an entirely new feeling that came to overwhelm him, but it didn’t come unwelcomed.
They were coming closer. Whoever his soulmate was, they were moving closer to him, they were moving locations.
Kakashi couldn't help but wonder if his soulmate was coming to Konoha. The chances were slim, but not non-existent.
Hope was a dangerous thing, so he had learned early on in life. The book of Shinobi rules was a particular work of literature, one that taught young Shinobi what it means to serve the village and what rules a successful fighter follows. To have hope in something, whether it be survival, the war, or a mere training fight, was a hazard, one that could lead to the peril of the hopeful. In Kakashi’s case, it would be his heart to suffer yet another time, the flame of his hope doused by the harsh reality.
In the morning, it came as no surprise to him that his dreams had centered around a blurry figure. More so, he had been surprised by the fact that he had been able to sleep in the first place, especially with all the excitement coursing through his body. His back ached the moment he woke up, a fact not even many stretches could change. He could only blame himself for that and his sleeping position, one that almost mirrored the one of a fetus hugging around their center of comfort. In his case, he focused on the string around his finger and allowed the soft glow it emitted to sing him to sleep.
As soon as his mind had cleared from the sleepy fog, the pair of his charcoal eyes wandered to said string, curiosity lingering in his gaze as he did. Just as he did the night before, Kakashi thought of the tightening to be a fidget of his imagination, a manifestation of his hopes and dreams brought into reality.
One tug was enough to prove that he had not imagined.
It felt so good.
Kakashi could barely keep the smile from blossoming on his features, one that was just as bright as the rays of the sun peeking out from behind his curtains. It was absolutely genuine, unfiltered, and unbothered by his past forever haunting him. The smile tugged at his lips as no other has ever before, leaving the muscles in his cheeks almost feeling sore. He couldn’t keep it down even if he had tried, and couldn’t even hide it underneath his mask.
He was so happy.
All the way to his office in the Hokage building, until he had finally sat down on the comfortable chair placed behind the grand and dark wooden table, all the way until then he had kept the gleaming in his eyes. They practically burned as coal did when lit alight, leaving behind the usual tone of his charred coal eyes. In them grew the fire only brighter and brighter with each tightening of the string around his finger, sending a shiver down his spine time and time again.
That was, at least until the panic settled into his bones.
What if his soulmate did not want him? The question lingered uncomfortably in the back of his mind, persistently nagging him. It was a possibility after all.
More time than he would like to have, Kakashi had heard of people being rejected by his soulmate after meeting them. Whether it was because of their looks or their personality, there apparently were many reasons as to why someone would reject their other half upon meeting them. There were countless reasons as to why it had happened, and every single one of them sent a shiver down his spine.
They were coming closer, and so was a possible rejection. Every ten minutes that went by while he sat in his office, his back stiffly against the chair, did the string around his finger tighten again and again. With each new sensation, the nearing of his soulmate was signaled to him, indicated.
Did they know him? Did he know them?
Even worse: did they possibly hate him?
Kakashi was well aware of the fact that throughout his lifetime, he had made many foes in lands beyond his home. His actions had always spoken louder than his words and earned him more nicknames than he could ever repeat, his reputation taking on different shapes in different places. Depending on where his soulmate came from, they could have an entirely different opinion of him than if they were from another place. The only upside he saw from his soulmate potentially not being a Konohan Shinobi was that the rumors of his time as Kakashi the friend-killer might now have reached them, and that they did not know about that.
Other than that, he still found the situation to be rather nerve-wracking. His tongue felt heavy in his mouth and as dry as the Sunagakure desert. Each time he drank from his glass of water, it became more and more difficult to swallow, and his hands even trembled when he picked up the glass or his pen.
Kakashi was so distracted that he did not hear Shizune enter his office, resulting in the woman almost startling him.
“Hokage-sama, the guests will arrive soon.” Shizune told him, clutching her clipboard closer to his chest while she stood before his desk.
He looked up from his papers and gently sat down the pen from his trembling hands. “Maa, don’t call me that. ‘Kakashi’ is just fine,” No matter how often he told her, she would always refer to him by a title of respect rather than his name. Regardless, he would always remind her. “Thank you.”
Guests … he forgot the guests.
Could it be that his soulmate is one of them? The prospect was even more than merely nerve-wracking.
Shizune bowed politely before looking at the silver-haired again, her brows drawn into a furrow. “You look pale. Are you not well?” Her eyes raked over his features, most likely searching for signs of illness.
Kakashi chose to wave her off lazily. “Don’t worry about me. I’m just fine.” On the outside, he tried his best to appear both calm and collected, to not have the signs of his nervousness show. On the inside, on the other hand, he could practically feel his nerves buzzing with excitement.
The woman before him raised her eyebrow at him again, but let him off of the hook. “Alright. I believe you … for now.”
Before Kakashi could comment on her indicated threat or reassure her again that he was indeed ‘fine’, a knock resonated from the door before a timid voice asked for entry.
“Come in.” Kakashi called to them, his gaze fixated on the door to his office.
From behind the door emerged the rather shy form of Shizune’s apprentice, who stood in the doorway with trembling hands. Kakashi found it rather interesting to see someone be even more anxious than him.
“T-the guests have ar-arrived, Shizune-sama, Hokage-sama.” She told them, keeping her gaze fixated on her teacher rather than the Hokage.
Kakashi swallowed harshly, his soulmate still lingering in the back of his mind. “Bring them in.” This could be it. Now, he could meet his soulmate.
The string tied around his finger felt impossibly heavy.
From the hallway leading to his office, several pairs of heavy footsteps echoed and warned him of the arrival of his guests. Simultaneously, the red string began to glow brighter and brighter, to an extent he had never gotten to experience before. The sensation that followed was tingly and left his body practically shaking from his growing unease. As he had never been before, he felt jittery and could barely sit still in his seat.
Another time the door swung open and again Shizune’s assistant stood there, practically trembling in the doorway. From what he could see, behind her loomed several figures, ones she timidly told to enter before closing the door behind all of them.
In the academy, Kakashi had been told that upon meeting your soulmate, one would experience a sensation so great throughout their whole body that it was utterly indescribably. Furthermore, finally, one would be able to see how their string connected to the end of the other, almost creating a bridge between themselves and their soulmate. One of his teachers had once said that the moment you looked into the eyes of your other half, you would simply know that you love them.
Kakashi now knew that to be true,
The gasp escaping the lips of a beautiful (s/c) figure standing mere meters away from him almost left him gasping too. Were it not that the sight before him, his other half, was so breathtaking, then he, too, would have made some noise of recognition. A pair of (e/c) eyes captivated him fully and reminded him of the sight of home. As did their smell, both familiar and new, left his fingers twitching in his lap, yearning to touch them.
His other half, they were there. And they did not reject him.
Faintly, he could hear Shizune shuffling around and ushering his guests out, said guests making noises of approval as they left the office. As soon as he heard the door slam loudly behind him did he awake from his staring, blinking several times before opening his mouth.
“Hello.” Never before had his voice sounded so anxious.
It appeared that his other half felt just the same. “I’ve always wanted to meet you, soulmate. I was a bit nervous, but I can’t say that I am disappointed.”
A blush dusted their cheeks in an endearing pink, an expression that he promptly mirrored.
To have his soulmate stand before him gave him a euphoria he had never been able to feel before, one that again knocked every breath out of him. Most importantly, he knew that the person before him, they were the one he would cherish for the rest of his lifetime, the one he would devote all his love to. After all, they were the one destined for him and the one he was destined to have a connection like no other with.
As if blown away, his doubts vanished into a cloud of nothing, no longer clinging to the back of his mind.
Now that he had gotten to meet his soulmate, the red string of fate wrapped around his finger no longer served as the only reminder that Hatake Kakashi was deserving of love, so had the fates had decided.

First Naruto fic here. I’ve been on a Guy kick the last couple days, so here it goes! (Not edited)
Might Guy x Reader
This is part One. I’m not sure how many parts there will be, because I only meant for it to be a short story. I’m getting carried away but I don’t want to lose the integrity of the story by rushing the best parts, so I thought it better to break it up.
Word Count: 2,665
Warnings: alcohol usage, I think a single swear word, sexual themes.
Part II
...
It had been two full years since you had been to the Village Hidden in the Leaves; thanks to a tireless mission where you had played a waitress as an undercover operative in the Hidden Sound Village. You had gathered all the information you could, and you were ready to return home. The journey back was rushed, excitement coursing through your veins the closer you got to the gates. You could see them just through the trees, and restrained yourself from running forward, maintaining a steady pace.
As you stepped into the clearing, you noticed two shinobi congregating at the left side of the gates. One stood with his hands in his pockets, while the other spoke animatedly with his hands. It didn’t take long for you to recognize the two as your old classmates and close friends, and you forgot about your restraint, breaking into a run towards them. The one with his hands in his pockets noticed your movement almost immediately, and turned his stance defensive. He sized you up as you ran towards them, but you saw recognition come through his masked features as he dropped a kunai.
“Y/n?” He uttered softly as he dropped his kunai.
The animated man next to him stilled, turning his head to follow his friends line of vision. His eyes widened and he spun around to fully face you.
“Guy! Kakashi!” You beamed brilliantly at them, your final yard turning into a leap as you crashed into Guy’s now open arms.
“Y/n! How long has it been!?” He squeezed you until you couldn’t breathe, happy tears clouding his eyes.
“Kakashi, am I dreaming?” He asked his rival dramatically.
You pulled away from his embrace and let out a full laugh that vibrated your chest. Tears were threatening to spill from the corner of your eyes as you launched yourself at Kakashi, who was fully prepared and grinning wildly under his mask. He placed a gloved hand to the back of your head, fingers curling slightly in your hair to pull you under his chin. “It’s been too long, Y/n,”
He let go of you and you stepped back from them, wiping tears from your eyes. “Gods, I’m so glad I’m home,”
“What are you guys doing here waiting at the gates?”
“Guy had our teams do a training exercise out here.”
“And I am now even more glad I chose this place today! Let me escort you back into the village, I’m sure the Lady Hokage will be pleased to see you! You can tell me all about your mission on the way!”
Guy put a large hand on your shoulder. “Kakashi, I’m sure you can handle the youth when they are finished?”
Kakashi just nodded, eye crinkled from his smile. He pat your back as you started to move forward. “Would you be up for a round of drinks tonight? I’m sure I can wrangle everyone together for your homecoming.”
“That sounds amazing,”
You and Guy walked through the gates, and happiness filled your chest with warmth. You couldn’t have asked for a better welcome party if you tried. You had been close friends with those two since the academy. You were one of the few people who had been at Guy’s side right from the beginning - before he became strong and proved all the other kids wrong. You had a deep connection with him, and you knew he felt the same warmth in his chest now because he stayed oddly quiet and he kept reaching out to touch you, as if you may really be some sort of imaginary figure. About the fifth time of him doing this, you grabbed his hand and pulled him back into a warm hug.
“Y/n?”
You looked up at him. “You don’t have to keep reaching out, Guy. I’m really here, I promise.”
He smiled down at you, sniffling. “Two years away and you can still read my mind,”
“Of course, what kind of best friend would I be if I couldn’t?”
The rest of the walk to the Hokage’s office was short and uneventful. You parted ways with Guy in front of the Hokage’s door. “I’ll be seeing you tonight, then?”
“You betcha!” Guy exclaimed, giving you his signature thumbs up.
He gave your hand a squeeze, and you knocked on the door with a sweet smile.
Guy’s walk back to the gates was swift, and he never dropped his grin on the way. He couldn’t be more excited that you were back home. He had waited two painstaking years for you to return, his heart longing for you all the time.
Around a year before you left, Guy had realized his feelings towards you were more than platonic. He had stewed on that realization for months, and decided he wouldn’t tell you how he felt, because he didn’t want to do anything that would jeopardize your friendship. Your were the nearest and dearest thing to him, and it would tear him apart to lose you.
It tore him apart almost just as much to lose your contact for two years. You weren’t allowed to communicate in any way. It was especially hard for him when he went to your apartment to make sure it stayed clean and he could smell you everywhere.
While you were away, he toyed with the idea of telling you his feelings when you returned. It couldn’t be that bad. He imagined you reaching up to kiss him in response, telling him you loved him just the same, before the vision was morphed into you rejecting him, disgusted, and telling him you didn’t want to see him again.
It was hard to shake off that thought; he wasn’t particularly lucky with women. He was used to rejection, but you had always been there for him, helping him with his confidence. Rejection from you would be the nail in his coffin and would completely shatter his confidence.
He visibly shook himself off as he reached Kakashi again, the smile returning to his face as he noticed his team waiting there for him.
“Sensei, where were you?” Lee asked impatiently.
“Not important, Lee.” He turned to Kakashi. “How did they do?”
“Quite well, I’m sure Naruto and Sakura will be disappointed they came in last,”
Guy laughed. “Well alright, lets get a move on, team. Kakashi, I’ll see you later,”
“Where to now, Sensei?” Lee, as always, was right on Guy’s heels.
“To dinner, I think you all have trained enough for the day,”
His team made noises of excitement behind him, shooting off different restaurants they wanted to go to. Kakashi crossed his arms and watched them leave. He was in good spirits because one of his best friends was finally home, but he had a little niggling worry in the back of his mind for Guy. It wouldn’t be irrational to think that he would unload the feelings he had been holding onto for you in a moment of excitement and in a stupor of liquor. He hoped that Guy would have more control than that, but you could never be certain with him.
Your time in Tsunade’s office seemed to drag on for hours. You were more than exhausted by the time you dragged your feet across town to the apartment you hadn’t touched in years. You were wary as you put the key in the lock, hoping there wouldn’t be too many cobwebs.
The door swung open to reveal a.. clean apartment. You walked through it, seeing that there wasn’t dust or cobwebs collected anywhere. Who...?
You smiled to yourself. The only other people who had a key were Guy and Kakashi. Somebody had kept your place pristine, and you had a feeling it wasn’t Kakashi. Your heart flipped, imagining Guy coming in and dusting every few months.
You had liked Guy for awhile, well, you had liked Guy since you were kids. You found him inspiring and he was a wonderfully attentive friend, unlike a certain other shinobi you knew and loved. Over the last two years though, the distance had made your feelings wane. You thought you were almost completely over him by the time your mission was wrapping up, but seeing him again had flooded you with those same old emotions.
You dropped your things on the kitchen floor and went to go take a shower. You pulled a towel out of the linen closet and got undressed before remembering you forgot your soap. You covered yourself and while retrieving the soap out of your bag you noticed a figure in your windowsill. You stilled, holding your breath. Thankfully though, you realized it was Kakashi.
“Kashi!”
He gave you a closed eyed smile. ”Don’t mind me. I just wanted to let you know everything is set for tonight. I’ll see you around 6?”
You looked at the clock on the stove. 4:32. “Sure,”
He nodded and disappeared from the window, to which you followed it up by shutting and locking it. You had always hated him appearing like that. More than once had he found you in a compromising state by appearing unannounced.
You quickly got your soap and hopped into the shower, washing your hair after a long journey back felt absolutely amazing. You wished you could stay in there for hours, but you wanted to be on time. You dried off quickly and pulled open your drawers and flung the closet open. It had been so long since you had been able to wear your good stuff. It would take some sorting to decide.
It took only twenty or so minutes to figure out a good outfit. You wanted to look nice to see all of your friends again, but nothing too flashy. You had settled on a pair of pants that complimented the shape of your ass very nicely, especially since it had gotten rounder during your mission. A little show wouldn’t hurt, you thought, winking at yourself in the full length mirror.
The top was a green, hand-crocheted long sleeve crop. It was warm out, but that would change quickly when the sun began to set. You felt good, your clean hair, clean scent and your clothes had you feeling yourself. You wondered if you would attract Guy’s attention with the way you looked. You hoped so.
You checked the clock as you finished getting ready and realized it was past a quarter to six. You hurried with your finishing touches and grabbed your bag, excited and ready to go.
You locked your apartment, nearly skipping down the street in your pleasant mood. The bar wasn’t a far walk; you would be there with a couple minutes to spare.
Guy was nervous to go out. He fidgeted with his hair as it dried, trying to get every piece perfectly in place, and struggled picking something to wear. He normally just wore his jumpsuit out, but he wanted to look nice for you. He was ecstatic to see you again, to get to be by your side again. He decided on a green t-shirt that hugged his chest. He not so secretly hoped you would be impressed by his muscular form. He flexed in the mirror and gave himself a thumbs up before grabbing a jacket and heading out.
He walked with purpose towards the bar, not realizing how quickly he was walking until Kakashi appeared beside him.
“You seem to be in a hurry,” Kakashi looked at him with a sly grin.
“Only exercising a youthful stride,” He boasted, giving him a half salute.
“Of course, I’m sure your pace has nothing to do with Y/n,” Kakashi put his hands behind his head as he walked beside Guy, who had faltered in his step.
“I can’t say I’m not looking forward to spending some time with my best friend!”
Kakashi eyed Guy but said nothing. They made there way into your favorite bar in record time. They were spotted almost immediately by Kurenai who waved them over to a circular booth near the back. They could see that you were seated next to her smiling widely at them. Guy grinned, and admired your appearance. He thought you looked stunning woth your hair down and your relaxed shoulders.
Guy rushed to the booth while Kakashi took his time. He was happy to see you, but he never wanted to appear too eager. Guy, however, never seemed to have that problem and slid into the booth with force. Nearly smooshing you in his enthusiasm.
Kurenai raised her eyebrow at him and gave you a subtle look that didn’t miss. Your cheeks dusted pink.
“Hello! Has anyone ordered drinks yet or shall I go get some?” Guy asked boisterously.
“Asuma is at the bar,” Kurenai responded, nodding towards him.
He had been very pleasant, giving you a typical overly hard pat on the back when he first greeted you. And Kurenai had given you a bone-crushing hug. You appreciated them and your heart was full as you reunited with your friends.
Asuma was quick to bring drinks over, gabbing enough for Genma and Ebisu too, for whenever they decided to show. You took a sip of your sake, enjoying the flavor.
“Hey Kakashi,” Guy said suddenly.
Everyone looked over at Guy as he continued. “How about we make this a contest? I bet I can out drink you!” He laughed.
Kakashi squinted at him for a moment before giving in. “Why not, this is a celebration,”
You giggled. You had missed this. The friendly competition, the warmth of your best friend as his shoulder seemed to perpetually pump you. He gave Kakashi his signature thumbs up and downed his sake in one gulp. “Drink up my friend, the night has just begun!”
Guy winked at you.
It didn’t take more than an hour for your group to get tipsy. You, especially, were feeling the liquor. It had been awhile since you drank and you could feel that you had very little tolerance for it any more. At some point Guy had put his arm on the seat behind you, and your right thigh pressed against his left. The area where they touched was electric. You reached for your second drink, you tossed your head back and finished it as Genma (who had been late) whooped. Your cheeks were pink from the liquor and attention. Everyone had been asking all about your mission and while you loved them, it was a little overwhelming.
“Did you date anyone while you were away, Y/n?” Genma asked, sparing a glance at Guy.
He stiffened slightly in his seat, though you didn’t notice.
“No way,” You laughed. “I’m not really interested in dating under a fake identity,”
“But still, when was the last time you dated someone? Its been, what, 6 years? More?” He pried.
“6, yeah.” You answered somewhat uncomfortably. You looked at Guy out of the corner of your eye who was frowning.
“You still have many more youthful years, Y/n, worry not!” Guy said, putting his arm around your shoulder and giving you a friendly shake. Your heart sped up a little bit and you gave him a small smile.
“Kurenai, can I scoot past you? I need to use the restroom.” She and Asuma shuffled around so you could get out. You stretched as soon as your feet hit the floor. You didn’t feel the eyes on you at first, but heard the whistle from Genma.
You laughed at him and winked, before sauntering off to the bathroom.
“Well shit,” Genma said, watching you walk away. Might Guy’s eyebrow twitched at his objectification of you, but couldn’t stop himself from admiring you as well. The way your hips moved made him discreetly readjust himself.
“I know you have a thing for her, but I think I may give ‘er a try if you don’t hurry up.” He said to Guy, who flushed.
Kakashi smacked Genma upside the head. “Hey!”
Guy noticed that half the bar had watched as you made your way to the bathroom, and he wondered if he would be able to work up the courage to tell you his feelings before someone else got you.

Birthday present: Kazekage Gaara x Sas mod. I’m going to refer to her as Rose here. This is not an x reader fic just a birthday present consisting of my word vomit, kay thanks! @sasukeanon
It was overwhelmingly obvious, the way the young Kazekage of Sonohagakure was too interested in Konoha’s matters. Lately, he hasn’t been trying to hide it as well. Some weird, twisted sense of confidence in his over all stoic self. The reason is simple, the Uchiha Jonin of the Leaf, Rose. 🌹
It was fate that led Gaara to her, a mission gone wrong in the Hidden Sand from the Anbu Black Ops had caused a futile issue to turn into something of a civil war. It was to be expected that the Anbu Black Ops are stationed in every Hidden Village. Despite the now— friendly relations between the two villages, the Leaf isn’t going to let their guard down. As one of the key members of the Black Ops who reported to Itachi, (the fifth Hokage of Konoha (let me cook)), he had his utmost trust on his comrade. So, when matters became dire and her identity was leaked through a traitor directly to one of the chief members of The Hidden Sand’s council, Itachi paid no mind in trying to rescue her soon.
He didn’t have to, however— as a proof that The Hidden Sand bore no ill will with the Leaf village, Rose’s meet up was secured with the Kazekage himself. He wanted to meet this stoic, carefree, precise, cut-throat and loyal kunoichi who had taken down more than a handful of trained Hidden Sand shinobis in no time. Sharingan blazing with rage, and loyalty to the Hokage and the Leaf.
The prison bars creaked open as Rose furrowed her brows, the sound was no less than a migraine inducing catastrophe. “You are summoned.” One of the lady guards ordered, trying to had her intimidation from her behind a loud, nonchalant voice. “Mhm? By who? The Kazekage?” Sixth sense had been her forte for a while now. You get that sort of a thing once you are constantly exposed to danger.
“Yes, and you better show respect to him.” Rose scoffed after hearing those words from the guard. She will show respect if he deserves. No more, no less. He could stab her life out if he wants to and she wouldn’t bow down, the Uchiha were a prideful clan and that pride was instilled in her ever since she was young.
Hands tied behind her back in secure, metal hand cuffs, she was brought in front of Gaara. The moment her brown eyes met his, two things happened. Gaara was nullified of all emotions and she was enamored with how young and gorgeous the Kazekage sama looked. “Now, I didn’t ask her to be brought as a Prisoner did I?” Gaara reminded the guards who, reluctantly untied her.
“Are you untying me because you think of me as harmless?” A direct question with a commendable audacity was thrown towards the Kazekage, who was also— pleasantly taken aback. “No, I would be foolish to consider an Uchiha in the Anbu, directly under Itachi to be— harmless. I just trust your grit and your judgement. Maybe your faith in your Hokage & want to restore ours as well.” Yeah— right, after the attack during the Chunin examination, it was expected to expect, the Hidden Sand being notoriously upset about their Late Kazekage’s death under one of the Legendary Leaf’s Sannin, Orochimaru.
“Then you must know that I will not admit to anything you accuse me of, which might hamper The Hidden Leaf’s image.” Rose was brutal, and honest. Diplomacy doesn’t work on those who have the guts to slay enemies. Right now, she might just be standing in front of him & she was prepared.
“I don’t want you to.” Gaara smiled, asking the guards to leave to make her feel safer. He had no ill-intent whatsoever. Rose activated her sharingan, curious to witness and look around for any traps. “You must not consider me harmless either, Little one.” Gaara reminded her after the observation. “I will not lay down petty traps for someone.” His hands crossed defensively.
“Then why am I being treated normally?”
“As I said, we want to—”
“Really? You really want to prove to Itachi san that you are no threat and you can be trusted as the Kazekage but can you say so about the normal folks here? Can you say so about the council?” Rose challenged Gaara again, despite knowing she was in no position to. However, if Gaara really wanted the relations between the Leaf and the Sand to be amicable, then he must know the truth.
“I understand, it takes time for something like this to wash off. People still have a hard time accepting me as the Kazekage. As you know, I am a Jinchuriki of the one-tailed Shukaku.” He bared his identity in whole, catching her off guard. “Sometimes, I feel as if they are conspiring against me too. That does not matter though— because all I need, is the same to be done for any Hidden Sand Shinobi, if they are caught in your village.”
“I want them to be treated as if they are in a safe place. Somewhere under the shadow of Itachi, unharmed and allowed to fit in.”
“You have high ideals.” She raised her brow with a sigh, Gaara’s words… had an impact for sure. Someone who was being too optimistic perhaps. Itachi was not someone who treads on intents. However, he won’t let this act go unnoticed.
And… he didn’t. After Gaara let Rose go, escorting her to the Leaf safely. Itachi personally and cordially invited Gaara to the village.
The red-haired man was already losing everything by then. Sleep is something he has lost a while ago, thanks to Shukaku… right now— it’s his senses. He’s never seen someone so beautiful, so fierce, yet has eyes so kind. At first it started with his mind pondering off, then he started dreaming about her… now, he can’t wait to see her.
“Rose, The Kazekage has personally asked for you to be his escort through his visit. You can accompany him throughout the visit.” Itachi spoke, going through the papers sent by Gaara.
“Is he in love with me or what?” Rose laughed out, “I seriously think he hasn’t talked to a girl in his life.”
Itachi smiled at that statement, “Now now, whatever that is, we still treat guests nicely.” Itachi hummed, looking at her who had a plastered eye roll.
Things… proceeded. Gaara was in the Leaf, met Itachi, and eventually asked to go to the lake behind the village borders with Rose. Weird— this man was so fucking weird. Rose almost felt him delusional with how silent yet weirdly exhilarated Gaara looked.
Once they reached the lake, Rose couldn’t handle the strange quietness of the travel & finally spoke up. “Why did you ask of me to accompany you?”
“Why not? Do you not like accompanying me? I thought it would be a good break for you from your Anbu Black Ops duties…”
Thoughtful… is what she thought of him right now, the glint in her brown eyes rising. “I see, well, thank you Kazekage sama.”
“Please, call me Gaara..”
“No, I will not, Kazekage Sama.”
“Why not?”
“Because you aren’t my friend or my buddy. You are officially visiting Konoha and I am responsible to accompany you as proposed by you officially to the Hokage.”
“What would it take for me to be called… your buddy?” Gaara’s cheeks were dusted pinkish. He had never been this brave in communication ever. But something told him that for Rose, he had to be.
“When you wouldn’t be wearing your Hokage robes, when you’d be a normal person who would meet me without my uniform. Maybe have similar interests as me. Then, I will call you Gaara; Kazekage sama.” Rose replied, and even though she didn’t say it precisely for him, Gaara felt his heart do sommersaults at the way her lips parted when she pronounced his name.
“You have a specific set of rules I must excel in, don’t you?” He smiled, looking down at the stillness of the water surface, watching her reflection and not directly looking at Rose. He felt he would melt if he did…
“Well, you wanted me to be informal. Then you, have to earn it. Just like you earned Itachi’s trust.” She smiled, also biting her lip. God— he was so gentle and kind, she knew the stories of how he used to be dangerous, vile, selfish & utterly cruel. This person & that person… don’t match.
“Well then, allow me to ask of your time so I can earn being your friend, please?” Gaara urged again, looking into her brown eyes this time, even with eyes as deep as hers, it was hard to read her soul.
“Are you asking someone who’s duty is to accompany you— and nothing else, to accompany you?” Rose laughed, rolling her eyes.
“Yes, accompany me as yourself, not as an Anbu Shinobi.” Gaara re-phrased.
“I will see… maybe, maybe not. You must find out eventually.”
“Patience is something I’m very good at.”
“Oh, are you? Let’s see how long until you lose your patience and get oppressive with your demands.”
“Would you like that, Rose san?”
She didn’t respond to that, and for Gaara, it was enough that her smile hadn’t faded as they both watched the scenary around the lake, how the sun was fading… this wasn’t so bad after all.

GLIDING across trees and letting the wind breeze through his hair, Naruto had a look of determination written on his face as he strode to the front of the formation, Sai, Sakura, and Yamato following behind him. Finding Sasuke had always been of top priority, and whenever the Fifth Hokage would send Team 7 out on a mission concerning the lost ninja, it would always bring upon a strong confidence in Naruto that he will bring Sasuke back to the Hidden Leaf Village. Today’s mission wasn’t any different, especially with how persistent Naruto was being in leading the team. However, the sudden kunai knives being thrown in their faces with paper bombs attached wasn’t completely normal.
Naruto quickly performed his hand signs for a Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu, and about fifty of his clones showed up, taking all of the hits from the kunai knives and the paper bombs. Once all of the clones dissipated, Naruto and his team dropped down into the small clearing of the forest, taking in the silence that surrounded them. All of their eyes looked around the area, scoping out every inch of wildlife within the surroundings. Immediately, three ninjas swooped down from the tall trees above them and engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the team, leaving Naruto to look for a possible fourth target.
From the corner of his eye along with the sudden presence of a chakra symbol nearby, Naruto darted his vision towards one of the large trees in the area, spotting a flick of hair passing by behind the trunk. He dashed over to the tree and began diving deeper into the forested setting, looking here and there for the same piece of hair he saw before. With every passing second, Naruto was getting farther away from the clearing where his teammates were currently fighting with another group of ninja, but all Naruto could concentrate on was the strange sight from earlier.
Naruto dropped to the ground when a force pushed down on his back coming from above his head. A groan left his lips, and he lifted his head off of the ground, immediately widening his eyes at the sight in front of him. Knelt down a few feet in front of him, you tilted your head to the side with a small smirk on your face. Naruto couldn’t keep his eyes off of your own, even when there was a clone of you sitting on his back to keep him lying on the ground. Your attractive looks were too distracting, and it ultimately left him somewhat paralyzed lying there.
“Who knew the Jinchuriki of the Hidden Leaf was a cute, little boy?” you spoke with a hint of a tease in your tone. You reached out and fluffed his bright yellow, spiky hair and got up shortly after. Naruto continued to struggle, but the comment you made concerning his looks was enough to get him the strength to destroy your clone and get up, dusting off his orange and black themed clothes. One look at the crossed off symbol on your forehead said everything he needed to know, “You’ve gone rogue?”
“Yeah… I would say I’ve gone rogue, but what does it concern a Jinchuriki like you?” you questioned with furrowed brows. You crossed your arms and began walking dangerously closer to the Uzumaki, but he held his guard up and hopped back a few steps, beginning to wield a kunai knife. “Rogue ninjas aren’t welcomed anywhere,” he replied in a deep tone contrasting with his usual, happier tone.
“That is correct, but I couldn’t care less anymore because at the very least, I’m away from the toxicity that is my clan. Wouldn’t you say that’s a good reason to become rogue?” you continued playing the question game, staring deeply into his eyes. From the look of your gorgeous eyes staring back at him, Naruto could feel beads of sweat begin to roll down the sides of his forehead, and the knife felt like it was getting increasingly heavier with each ticking second that went by. He gripped the handle harder and kept his stance up, not wanting to let his guard down. “Abandoning your village isn’t what makes a ninja,” Naruto added, creasing his brows.
With quick speed, the kunai knife fell from Naruto’s hand, and your own hand gripped the collar of his jacket. A gasp left Naruto at how incredible your speed was since you were now standing directly in front of him with your own kunai knife held up in front of his neck. “I don’t care about that place anymore, and maybe because you’re from the Hidden Leaf you feel obligated to say that every village is the same, but in reality, it’s far from normal. Leaving was the best decision I’ve ever made,” you spoke through gritted teeth now flaring with anger boiling in your blood.
You pulled back and roughly shoved Naruto to the ground. Not wanting to spend another minute on this boy, you turned on your heels and were about to head out if it weren’t for the kunai knife thrown in your direction, landing right in front of your feet. When you turned around, you didn’t have enough time to comprehend the winding ball of blue chakra headed right for you.
“Rasengan!”
Just before it could hit you, you grabbed hold of Naruto’s wrist and twirled around a couple of times before letting go of him, watching his body fly in another direction. “If it’s a fight you want, then I’ll be pleased to grant that for you,” you whispered, arming yourself with three shurikens.
Not letting the boy have a chance to get up, you flung the shurikens at him, but his Shadow Clone jutsu was too quick and intercepted the projectiles, allowing him to dash up to you. The two of you were thrown into a whole fist fight with either side throwing and receiving multiple kicks and punches, along with some skilled taijutsu. When a kick landed on Naruto’s stomach sending him back a couple of feet, you flipped a full 360° to be the same distance away from him, now wielding signs. Your hands revealed a lightning blade forming from your chakra, and since you had the advantage in chakra types, you used your advanced speed to go right at Naruto. Naruto countered, once more with his Shadow Clone jutsu, and you started hurling at all of them.
When all of the clones disappeared, you were left all alone within the darkened area of the forest. Your eyes accurately scanned the surrounding areas for a tuft of bright yellow hair or a glare of ocean blue eyes. Once again, you heard “Rasengan!” being yelled out from above you, and luckily, you were able to jump out of the way and onto a tree branch. You weaved a couple of signs and watched as a thick cloud of stormy clouds rolled in above Naruto’s head, confusing the boy severely.
“Rain? A little rain isn’t going to stop me!” Naruto shouted, but when he looked up at where you were last seen standing, he didn’t find you. Soon the storm clouds darkened, and lightning began to emit from the puffy clouds, striking the grass ground. Naruto yelped when a bolt struck too close to him. Rain began to fall at a quick pace, but for some reason, when Naruto tried to make any sudden movements, it was like his limbs grew numb and paralyzed. Naruto tried his hardest to get his arms or legs to move, but any amount of effort was wasted since he just couldn’t pull through it.
You dropped to the ground beside him as soon as he was successfully paralyzed, and a smirk grew on your face. Naruto glanced up at you, widening his eyes at how close you were coming up to him. “For the world’s most unpredictable ninja, you’re pretty good at fighting, and I would applaud you if it weren’t for your team hurriedly making their way to you as we speak. So, I guess I’ll see you some other time then?” you teased.
Naruto began to blush profusely when he felt a pair of soft lips press against his cheek, but when he tried to look at you once more, you were gone. He was completely stunned with how bold you were, and he, too, felt like the fight was a good one considering he knew nothing about your abilities or this unique genjutsu he was under.
Consciousness was a slow and feisty battle stirring up within Naruto, and when mere seconds passed by, he was barely hanging on until he heard the delicate sound of Sakura’s voice over the course of lightning still striking down near him. Noticing he was trapped in some sort of genjutsu, Sakura released him from it, and the boy fell limp into her arms with eyes drooping shut. Soon, Yamato and Sai joined after scoping the surroundings for any more potential threats whilst Sakura dealt with handling Naruto’s minor wounds he suffered in the fight earlier.
— — —
A bright orange fire was once cackling on a pile of darkening pieces of wood that had been collected from these nearby trees, and all of Team 7 were asleep in their tents apart from Naruto. He lay wide awake on the ground, staring up at the pointed ceiling in his tent with his arms comfortably laid underneath his head on his pillow.
The recurrence of his fight with you was all that was running in his mind paired up with your attractive face and beautifully toned voice. Naruto had never met someone as bold and brave as yourself, and holding a will for fighting himself, he enjoyed fighting you, even if you were technically an enemy in the eyes of the Hidden Leaf as displayed by the cross over your village’s symbol. He brought an arm out from underneath his head and began to softly rub the tips of his fingers against his cheek right where his whiskers were and the area you had pressed a kiss to after putting him under a genjutsu. The tingling sensation from that moment was still stinging there, and it made him think back to those gorgeous eyes of yours that stared back into his at one point during your fight.
Despite knowing he would get into deep trouble for this, Naruto threw out everything his captain had made sure to lecture him about and got up from his sleeping bag, sliding on his usual attire of an orange and black jacket with matching sweats. He made sure to tightly secure his Hidden Leaf ninja headband around his forehead, letting the long straps fall onto the back of his neck. Naruto packed a bag with a couple of snacks and medical supplies, just in case, and proceeded with exiting his tent, zipping it back up behind him. He quickly glanced into the tents of his teammates and captain to make sure they were deep in their slumbers before leaping, quietly, up into the tree branches that hung above the small campsite.
Taking a quick stop, Naruto sat down on a tree branch and criss crossed his legs, enduring the calm, peace and focu needed to engage his Sage Mode which will help find you faster than if he were to go without it. Once the yellow frog-like eyes and bright orange color appeared in and around his eyes, Naruto began his journey once more, hoping five minutes was enough to find you. He went from tree branch to tree branch, but he came to a curt pause when he sensed your chakra system nearby. As soon as he was able to find your exact location, the Sage Mode disappeared and reverted his eyes back to their normal ocean blue color, and he continued in the straight path he was headed.
“Looking for me?” your quiet voice whispered into the quiet air. Naruto halted his steps and stood upon a tree branch, looking in all directions as if he felt like he was hallucinating the sound of your voice. Eventually, his ocean blue eyes locked on your body which was leaning against a tree on the ground. Your eyes were closed, head tilted downward at the ground, arms crossed over your chest, and your right leg rested over your left in a casual position.
“H—How—”
A smirk planted on your lips at the sound of his confusion, and your head pointed upward to allow your eyes to open and capture his fragile stance way above you. Naruto leapt down quickly, now standing directly in front of you. “Cat got your tongue? Or should I say a fox?” you joked with yourself, kicking yourself off of the tree you were leaning on.
“You may have had the upper hand in that fight from before, but I’m more than ready to fight you again, right here and now!” Naruto shouted out whilst taking a fighting stance. A heavy sigh escaped your lips as you approached the boy, resting a hand on his shoulder. He was astounded at the proximity between you two, and he began to grow nervous with every inch you were making to get closer to him. “Can’t you tell when a girl is tired?” you asked in a low whisper near his ear.
You pulled away to look at his face for any sort of reaction, and you probably thought the boy standing in front of you was completely frozen in time at how incredibly still he became. Naruto began to blush profusely, but he quickly shook his head to snap out of it. However, when his eyes locked on you once more, he couldn’t focus much on the fighting he was trying to pull off, and instead, he saw the beauty that caught his eyes near the end of the last fight.
“So… why are you really here… looking for me, Naruto? Last I heard, you weren’t particularly keen when you found out I’m a rogue ninja,” you commented, walking past the boy. Naruto kept an even pace with you, not wanting you to leave his eyesight. “W—Well… I thought about what you said, and I guess I was a little biased since I have a loving home right where I am. I didn’t think before acting, and I wanted to say that I’m sorry,” Naruto replied when he rethought his actions from earlier.
You stopped walking, and in turn, Naruto copied you, keeping an even distance away from you. Hastily turning around to face the boy, you relaxed your arms and let them hang from either side of your torso. “Really? A Hidden Leaf ninja apologizing to me? That’s a first,” you muttered, scratching your head, “But… since you gave me a good fight, I’ll accept your apology, however that wasn’t really what I was referring to, was it?”
Naruto widened his eyes when you began to approach him once more. His eyes dotted over to your own, and it was like he was suddenly trapped in a genjutsu again, yet this one was more to his liking compared to the other. All he saw from one look in your eyes was a caring, selfless, and delicate ninja who would do anything for their teammates and the people they cared about, much like a certain yellow haired Jinchuriki.
“W—What do you mean?” he questioned obliviously. The two of you stared at one another for a moment before you spoke up in response, “You felt it, too? The sudden boost in serotonin right before and after our fight? That’s why you came looking for me.” Using a word like serotonin was a way that a definite confused state rose in the yellow haired ninja, and you couldn’t help but lightly giggle at this.
“What I’m asking is if you felt the same feelings I did, you know attractiveness, happiness?” you reiterated a little simpler for him, and in an instant, Naruto blushed a bright pink. He looked away from your eyes and scratched his head before crossing his arms and closing his eyes. Even if you were a rogue ninja, the boy couldn’t help but agree with your assumption, so he nodded a couple of times, opening one eye to catch your reaction. “You know you’re really cute when you blush and act all shy around me,” you commented.
A shriek left Naruto’s mouth when he felt the pressure of your index finger and thumb pinching his cheek, and it only allowed some giggles to erupt from you. Naruto took hold of your hand and gently pulled it away from his face, but he didn’t immediately let go. His eyes darted to your hands, and instinctively, he intertwined your fingers, allowing a smile to rise on his lips.
“I like the feeling of your hand in mine… it’s like it was made to hold yours,” Naruto said, looking back at your eyes. It was your turn to blush at such a cute compliment, and you couldn’t help but look away from his glittering eyes. “Oh great… now you’re making me shy,” you mumbled, but it only caused some of his own chuckles to come out.
Incidentally, you both looked at one another and into the other’s eyes, minimizing the space between the two of you along with every passing second. Naruto kept his hand locked with yours, but his other hand clung onto your waist, pulling you closer to him gently. Once your noses were brushing against one another, the ocean eyed boy fluttered his eyes shut and leaned in whilst you simultaneously copied his actions. The two of you engaged in a sweet, soft kiss, and in the middle of it, you could feel Naruto smiling along with your own smiles.
After sharing a couple of kisses with one another, you pulled away and watched the smile stick on Naruto’s face. The two of you were about to go in for a couple more, but your hearing caught the sound of leaves rustling behind Naruto along with some shouts of his name running in the air. “Looks like your team caught you sneaking out,” you commented, patting his shoulder softly.
You attempted to leave him, but the boy only tugged on your hand, bringing you back into his embrace. A light yelp left your mouth when Naruto suddenly hopped up with a good height, landing sloppily on a tree high above the ground. The two of you looked down at the ground below, and Naruto felt a cold shiver run down his spine when he recognized the familiar leaf symbol on the facial shield that his captain frequently wears proudly on his face.
“I—I really should go before he decides to punish me… but I would like it if you came with me… wait what’s your name again?” Naruto spoke calmly before questioning confusingly. A giggle rose from you, “Y/N. I cannot believe you kissed me before I gave you my name. I should just leave you right here for that.”
“No! No! I’m sorry! But seriously, you should come with me, I could get your name cleared and—”
“With all the damage I’ve caused for everyone around, it’s better that I stay a rogue ninja, but I hope that one day we do meet each other again. Your company was a nice one and much better than those other rogues I usually come across,” you cut him off, reaching out to hold his hands in yours. “Are you sure? I have the best convincing skills ever,” Naruto tried to add.
“They aren’t working on me, unfortunately. So, you should get going before you get severely punished for this. Let’s meet again someday, Naruto, and I’ll let you properly join me for a date instead of whatever this arrangement is. It will be nice,” you replied, smiling wonderfully at the boy.
Naruto stepped closer to you and immediately wrapped his arms around you for a caring and gentle hug. He caught you off guard, but you, nonetheless, returned his hug. You turned your head to press a sweet and long kiss to his cheek before you disappeared into thin air, for good. Naruto sighed and held out a hand, wondering if he could still feel your presence in front of him.
However, a sudden flash of light landing on him caused him to stumble and lose his balance, making him fall off of the tree branch and into the shrubs at the base of the tree. When Naruto reached his head out from deep in the bushes, he chuckled awkwardly and opened his eyes, immediately wishing he kept them closed since the sight in front of him knocked out whatever sane was inside of him. A sharp scream left his mouth when Yamato stood in front of the bush, showcasing his horrifyingly wide, dark eyes that he often showed after telling a scary story.
“What were you doing out—”
Yamato didn’t get a chance to ask the young boy since he quickly rushed out of the bush and dashed down the path he came from, hoping he wouldn’t get nightmares from what he just experienced.

Can i rq hcs for lady tsuande and jiraiya as adopted parents adopted to a jinchuriki girl?
ADOPTED JINCHURIKI HEADCANONS
Tumblr media
Tsunade & Jiraiya x Daughter!Reader
Warnings: mentions of death and a corpse
I got another request similar to this so they’re gonna be connected. Those headcanons can be found here!
Tumblr media
It all began when they were both sent on a mission to gather intel on a jinchuriki being targeted
What they didn’t expect was for you to be an adorable little girl
Your previous caretaker, who had been an elderly lady that could barely take care of herself had been taking care of you
Until one day she passed and you were left to nothing, scrapping around for food, wandering the woods that surrounded the cabin
Deep down they both knew they couldn’t leave you all alone without any protection
When they approached you, you were a little shy at first but soon became friendly
Going so far as to showing them around your little cabin, to which they found the old lady resting at peace in her bed
A blanket had been thrown over her to which you proudly claimed to have done, saying that she would wake up soon
Their hearts broke at the realization
Tsunade stayed in the room to use her medical ninjutsu to take a look at the corpse
While Jiraiya took you outside for a talk, one that he really didn’t want to give, but had to anyways
So they took you back, Jiraiya and Tsunade taking turns carrying you because your short little legs couldn’t keep up
At one point, you were holding their hands walking in between them
This only increased the feelings they had for each other
You guys looked like the perfect little family
When they got back to the Third, you perched on Jiraiya’ hip, they begged their former sensai to let you stay
He agreed, only under the circumstances that you would be under their care, and they kept that promise
It might not have been the ideal situation but you lived with Tsunade, Jiraiya stopping by and spending time with you often, until you were old enough to live on your own
They did everything they could to make sure you were safe and knew how to control your power as a jinchuriki
They never held that against you, always making sure that you knew that that wasn’t the only thing that defined you
They had you enrolled in the academy and everything
Sometimes even training you separately
Jiraiya taught you how to use the rasengan and Tsunade taught you about medical ninjutsu and helped you build your strength
The two of them would ENCOURAGE you and your love life in your teen years
Jiraiya often teasing you about your crushes
Tsunade giving you advice about feelings and how to go about with them
Overall, they were both great parental figures, loving you as if you were their own either way

HEY!!!! I read your kakashi x reader in which kakshi takes care of tired reader and it was *chef’s kiss* so i was thinking if you could a kakashi x reader in which the reader gets poisoned during a mission. They get a small scratch so it does not work quickly. So when they get home, they start to feel a bit dizzy and then start coughing up blood LOTS of blood ( if you don’t mind). So kakashi gets worried and takes them to the hospital. When they get there tsunade tells them it is a rare type of poison so they will need a day or two to make the antidote. So the reader is in pain and coughing up blood. Kakashi tries their best to comfort them. Sorry it is long. Feel free to ignore it. Sorry for bad english. THANK YOU ✨
[Kakashi Hatake X Reader] Unbearable
Pairing: Kakashi Hatake x gn!Reader
Note: Firstly, I'm glad that you like that piece, anon:D and your idea is fantastic!!! Okay, this one is a bit longer than what I usually write for, probably around 2,000 words. It's a mix of angst and fluff, the ending is fluffy though. And I didn't know what to name this one either:D Without further ado, please enjoy!
Tumblr media
You pushed the door open, exclaiming happily when you finally got to sniff the familiar scent of his signature dishes, “I’m home, Kakashi!”
“How was your mission, love?” Wiping his palms on a handkerchief, he lifted his eyes from the pan to quickly examine if you had any injuries.
“Absolutely successful! We captured and brought the rebels back for investigation. My captain will be reporting it to the Hokage so I’m off for now!” You made your way next to him in the kitchen, pulling off your gloves in the process, “What are you making?”
Kakashi went off talking about the dishes he was preparing for your dinner but your mind turned fuzzy in the middle of his sentence. You lost your balance and tumbled backward as your sight blurred, not able to see anything clearly. With his quick reflex, the Copy Ninja caught you by your forearm and guided you to the floor, constantly asking if you were okay. Kakashi’s visible eye widened, brows furrowing as his hands roamed to search for any injuries that his eyes did not catch. You had no fatal wounds except for several scratches here and there, and he could sense your depleted chakra level. Lifting your body up in his arms, he whispered as he carried you to your shared bedroom, “You probably overused your chakra again. You should be back to normal tomorrow after a good rest.”
You sprawled tiredly in your bed, having no appetite for a meal and Kakashi respected it, he knew when it came to reviving a Ninja’s chakra, nothing would be able to beat some decent sleep. He let you stay by yourself for a few hours and went to finish his reports, returning to check on you once in a while. When he was finally done with work, Kakashi quietly slipped under the blanket on his side of the bed, carefully scooted closer to your warmth, hugged you close, and peacefully closed his eyes. In the middle of the night, you were woken up by the burning sensation that coursed through your entire body and a terrible headache, having just enough time to flip onto your side in case you would vomit right then and there. And you suddenly coughed, your throat was torn when the crimson liquid spattered onto the white tiles, bled your shirt, and dripped down from your chin. Being a light sleeper, the silver-haired immediately shot up from his pillow, switched the lights on, and scrambled down to the ground. You were trembling for the time being, and within a split second, Kakashi scooped your motionless body in his arms, rushing for the hospital.
He knew for sure that you were poisoned given the symptoms that were starting to surface. The hospital workers were greatly intimidated by the threatening aura that he sent, still hugging you tight as he brought you to the operation room himself. You continued to cough in his arms, and he did not mind his turtleneck being covered entirely by your blood. Tsunade arrived with a hurried disposition, and Sakura followed close behind her lead. Kakashi immediately reported your condition to the Fifth Hokage, grimacing when he saw blood pooling on the hospital bed as the Medic’s chakra slowly entered your body. He fought to retain himself—to not sprint to your side and cradle you tight, to not bring his hand up and wipe the blood staining the corner of your lips. It was all too much to him to see you panting in agony—
“Sakura,” the blonde Medic commanded, “set up for poison extraction. Get three more people.”
The pink-haired left the room after her teacher’s assignment, fleeting on her feet when she saw your tightly shut eyes and Kakashi’s scary expression as though he was going to burn the place down. Tsunade turned to the Copy Ninja, who was leaning against the wall with a visible eye that settled a tone darker, and called, “Kakashi, I need you to hold Y/N down when I extract the poison.”
He shuddered, unsure if he would still be able to maintain the last bit of composure left. The silver-haired found it impossible to remain himself when came to your safety, but he padded to your side, shaking hands reaching out to the pale face of yours. The Godaime assured him that everything would be okay and the man took a deep breath, moving his palms to rest on both of your shoulders as the rest of the team arrived, getting to work the second they passed the door. Kakashi held onto your upper body and arms, pinning you down onto the bed when the blonde started to focus chakra on her hands. “It’ll hurt, make sure Y/N stays still,” she said before the glowing green entered your body.
Kakashi could feel his sweats running cold against his temple, his uncovered eye fixed on Tsunade's hands, periodically glancing back at your face to make sure that you were fine. His grip on your wrists was tight but not bruising, fearing that it would add to the pain that you were already enduring from the poison. The Copy Ninja had his other forearm across your shoulder blades, pressing your torso in place as the Medic worked diligently. It hurt and you yelped, shrieking from the pure pain every time her chakra seeped inside. Kakashi was restless, biting on his own lips to halt himself from releasing his grasp and hug you tight. Your eyes turned dull when Tsunade finally got the last bit of poison out of your system, heavily placing your head back onto the damp pillow as the silver-haired wiped the sweats on your forehead. When all of you thought it was over, things took a different turn—for worse.
Pain suddenly shot through your body, and you started to cough more vigorously than earlier, blood covered the white sheets of the hospital bed. The whole room turned their attention back on your figure, your eyelashes fluttered, wincing when you felt the tiniest bits of your muscles being squeezed and ripped apart. Kakashi stepped back when he looked at his hands smeared by your blood, and grimaced, “… Didn’t you get the poison out already?”
The Medic furrowed her brows, examining the extract she got in a test tube, “It’s my first time seeing this type.”
Kakashi went feral, “How long?”
The sounds of your coughs filled the quiet atmosphere of the operation room. Every ticking of the clock seemed too audibly loud each passing second the blonde observed the Copy Ninja’s face. She eventually sighed and turned to the exit, “I’m not sure. It will take a while for us to create the antidote.”
“You can’t leave Y/N suffering like this, Lady Tsunade,” he breathed out laboriously, “I can’t.”
Kakashi’s words left his lips like a desperate plea as he stared at the ground. Tsunade shut her eyes to summon enough vigor to walk out of the room. Sakura hesitantly left shortly after, silently closing the door after sending her former sensei a sympathetic look. With shaking legs that were almost unable to hold him up, the silver-haired made his way to a chair beside your bed, tracing his thumb across your lips to wipe the bloodstain away. As a Shinobi, he was too accustomed to seeing open wounds and deep gashes—too familiar with his body covered in blood after a mission, especially when he got injured. But seeing you in this state made him crumble in dejection and turmoil.
“Kakashi,” your inaudible whisper pulled him out of his deep thoughts, “what if I…”
Before you were able to finish your sentence, Kakashi hushed you with a sign as he pulled the blanket up to your chest, “Don’t say anything, love. I’m not going to let you…” And he trailed off, finding it hardly possible to continue what he was saying. You were still in pain, forehead scrunched up to restrain the groans from eliciting, tight fists hidden under the cover because you did not want him to be more distressed than he already was. Kakashi slouched his back, head dropping into his palms, cursing under his breath, “I should’ve come with you, should’ve been more careful, should’ve gotten you to the hospital sooner. I-I’m sorry, Y/N… Please, please just be okay.”
His words fell apart, slipping past his lips muffled and croaked. It had been a long while since he last felt the wet droplets tittering on the edge of his lash line—range and misery boiled in his veins as he swore to himself this would be the last time he would see you like this for as long as he was alive. He did not dare to look at you, not when he had to helplessly witness his dearest person suffering. Your breathing decelerated, the sweats beading your hairline and neck had long evaporated, and you fell asleep between his soft whispers, exhausted and drained.
Every hour passed with dread for everyone. Each time Tsunade came back to check on you set up a thin wall of hope but it all shattered shortly when she shook her head and withdrew out of the room. You were coughing less, but that did not ease the Copy Ninja because you were shriveling impossibly lifeless. You could not swallow whatever food they supplied, only able to intake water and intravenous fluid. It was after lunch when Tsunade knocked on the door—two days since you were brought to the hospital, one day since you went unconscious—and Kakashi went to slide it open for her. No longer displayed a hopeful expression, he could not bear the disappointment and emptiness from the Medic’s shake of her head. But this time, Tsunade came with good news.
“We found the antidote.”
A single sentence from the blonde levitated the somber atmosphere that was clouding Kakashi’s mind. A contented smile found its way across his lips—though covered by the mask, Tsunade could clearly see his pupil dilating and the furrow between his brows starting to slowly vanish. With a quick move, she injected the solution into your arm with Kakashi watching closely, not letting any details went unnoticed.
“The fever should be gone after lunch, I’m not quite sure when Y/N will wake up though. That depends on an individual’s ability to recover.” She stated, “You two take care.”
The silver-haired thanked the Godaime and shut the door after she had left for several seconds. Then, he went back for a quick shower—the last thing he wanted was you worrying for his enervated appearance after two days without rest—not forgetting to plant a kiss on your forehead before leaving. When he returned, Kakashi brought a basket of fresh fruits with him, carefully peeling oranges and placing them on a plate for you in advance. He even went as far as bringing your pillow because you would be staying for another few days, and he wanted to make you feel comfortable. After checking over everything, he leaned his head back and closed his eye, stealing a quick nap with your hand in his—so he would know when you wake up.
The moment your eyes fluttered open, you quickly scanned the room, and your gaze settled on the very Hatake sleeping peacefully, then to his fingers intertwining yours. You let out a soft breath, “Thank you, Kakashi.”

Tumblr media
When I arrive at the administrative floor of the Hokage Tower, my eye immediately scans for Y/N’s figure. My lips tug downwards into a frown when I fail to spot her so I walk up to one of the many cubicles to ask about her whereabouts.
“Oh, Y/N? You just missed her. She left for home about ten minutes ago.” The woman with long brunette hair replies to my inquiry and I heave a silent sigh.
This whole scenario has been going on for the past week now and I’m starting to grow agitated. It seems whenever I drop by her work to ask her out for a simple lunch or dinner, she just disappears. I try to control my reaction but I couldn’t stop my shoulders from sagging in disappointment. It feels like she’s avoiding me.
Y/N and I first became friends about two years ago. I had just resigned from the ANBU team, took on the role of Sensei for team seven, and sometimes special missions from Tsunade. She was a new employee, a civilian, first working as a secretary before working her way up to the role of an officer.
Honestly, our friendship had been an accident.
I was asked to take on a solo mission from the Fifth Hokage and when I arrived at the tower, I accidentally ran into Y/N and knocked down everything she was carrying- including a copy of Icha Icha.
I could feel my blood pumping with excitement but I had to play it cool, returning her book with a simple smile and an offhand comment on my mutual enjoyment of the erotica. I thought that her blush was cute.
Ever since that day, we would just greet each other in passing. Maybe converse for a couple of minutes before and after completing a mission. Our friendship didn’t develop deeply until last year, and my eventual romantic feelings towards her just a few months ago.
I began to find myself feeling more at ease around her, my tense shoulders relaxing, my breaths coming and going with ease. The all-consuming guilt I usually carry instantly evaporates like a droplet of water in the Sand Village when I’m with her. I laugh more, I talk more and I don’t complain about missions as often as I used to. When I return from a mission and I’m greeted by Y/N’s smiling face, I begin to wonder if this is what children feel like when they return home and are embraced into their mothers’ loving arms.
Come the next day, I make sure to arrive at Y/N’s desk right before the end of her working hours.
I wasn’t expecting her to jump in surprise, eyes widening when I asked her out for dinner.
“I’d love to.” She displays a shy smile that makes her appear more youthful. “But I…can’t.”
Maybe there’s a hurt expression on my face because I see Y/N’s eyes widen in alarm, “I’m not avoiding you!” she almost yells. “It’s just-”
She rubs the back of her neck awkwardly, her eyes avoiding mine. “It’s just something personal.”
I think I still look hurt because I hear her sigh in frustration and then stumble through her words as she says, “It’s not you, it’s me-”
“Okay.” I say simply and I turn to leave, not wanting to show her how pained I am by her words since I believed that we were closer than that, when I felt her hand tightly grab mine and force me to turn around.
“Don’t go.” The urgency in Y/N’s voice makes my heart skip a beat.
“Are you in trouble?” I ask her and she immediately shakes her head. However, I know that I look at her with doubt because she stresses, “I promise I’m not.”
I feel the sweat pooling in her hand but I don’t let go of her. It makes me feel wanted and it makes up for the amount of times I haven’t been able to see her.
Y/N bites her bottom lip and the waves of nervousness invade my senses, making my eyebrows furrow in concern. Before I could open my mouth and question her further, demanding that she tell me what’s wrong so that I could help, she held her hand up.
“Let’s meet in an hour.” She says. “I’ll explain everything then.”
Y/N offers me a weak smile and I feel the tiniest bit soothed, yet I am still on edge. I know that she is hiding something from me but I respect Y/N too much to force her to confess.
After telling me where we should meet, she squeezes my hand once before leaving me behind as curiosity eats away at my flesh, stray thoughts lingering in my mind.
I sigh silently and jump out of the window. I run across the many rooftops and come to a stop in front of the oldest tree in Konoha, taking a seat on a sturdy branch while rereading my favorite volume of Icha Icha to kill time.
When I arrive at the restaurant an hour later, I see Y/N walking up to me with a bright smile that makes my heart flutter.
It’s good to see that she is smiling but I still can’t help but feel worried- anxious, even. If Obito knew that the great Copy Nin was anxious, he would never let me live it down and would mention it at every opportunity he got. I can almost hear his loud voice and obnoxious laugh as he teases me about being anxious.
The waitress leads us to a booth near the window. I am glad that I went with a dine-in restaurant so that it’ll take a while for our food to be ready, giving us ample time to discuss what Y/N’s been hiding from me.
“I’ll have the beef curry with a side of steamed white rice.” Y/N informs the waiter after she ordered an appetizer of FireCracker Shrimps.
The waitress turns to me and I tell her my order. “Chicken ramen, please.”
“Any drinks?” She asks but Y/N simply shakes her head.
“I have my water.” She holds up her purse as proof, “Thanks.”
“I’ll have root beer please.” I tell the waitress when she looks at me.
Once the waitress leaves, I instantly notice the way Y/N begins to fidget in her seat in nervousness.
“So…” She begins awkwardly.
“So…” I repeat with a shrug.
Y/N sighs and I think I hear her mutter Why am I so fucking nervous under her breath.
A small smile tugs on my lips behind my mask at her cuteness.
After what looks like a mental pep talk, Y/N finally says, “The reason why I haven’t been able to see you recently is because… I’m fasting.”
I immediately arch an eyebrow at her. “Please don’t tell me you’re trying out some fad diet? Those aren’t good for you.”
Y/N shakes her head. “No, I’m not.”
“Good.” I nod my head. “Because you look fine just the way you are.”
Her cheeks were painted a deep shade of red and I resisted the urge to call her cute, knowing that would make her even more nervous than she already is.
“So why are you fasting?” I ask instead.
“It’s a religious thing.” Y/N shrugs her shoulders. “Every year for one month, we fast from sunrise to sunset.” She explains.
I have climbed mountains, traveled across deserts and braved storms that no civilian has ever witnessed and had the opportunity to meet all kinds of people from all over the world. I’ve learned about different religions people practice, heard about different types of beliefs people hold onto and yet, I don’t believe I’ve heard of this one.
This makes me upset.
“How come I’ve never heard of this?” I express my thoughts to her.
Y/N simply shrugs. “You’ve probably met people who follow my religion, just not when we’re fasting.” She explains. “Rin knows though.”
My shoulders slump further in disappointment and hearing Y/N chuckle makes me feel small.
“Don’t feel bad.” She says sweetly and reaches across the table to pat my hand in comfort, “To be fair, the month changes every year.”
“How so?”
Y/N points out the window and I can barely see the moon that’s making its appearance in the starry night sky. “It follows the moon cycle.”
I bet Y/N can see how I’m still confused because she adds, “The month shortens by two weeks so the months change every year. Heck, I was born during it in the middle of winter.”
“I think…I understand.” I say slowly, “Since you’re fasting in spring, you’ll be fasting in winter again soon, right?”
Y/N nods again, her eyes bright with excitement. “That’s right.”
Our conversation is interrupted by a shrill ringing that has Y/N jumping in surprise. She shoves her hand in her purse, the blush from earlier returning tenfold at the people glaring at her, and pulls out her mini alarm clock to silence it.
I don’t say anything so that I don’t further embarrass her but the mask doesn’t hide the look of confusion on my face.
“It’s sunset.” Y/N explains in a small tone of voice, sending apologetic looks at the other tables surrounding us.
Before I could say anything, she is rummaging through her purse again and pulls out a small container with three pieces of dates.
Y/N mutters something in a foreign language under her breath before popping a date into her mouth. Spitting out the seed into the napkin, she takes large gulps of water.
I blink owlishly at her and that makes her giggle behind her bottle of water.
“Sorry.” She grins. “I had to break my fast.”
I nod slowly.
There’s a pregnant pause around us as Y/N eats the remaining dates and empties half of her bottle. Shortly afterwards, the waitress comes by our table to place a small bowl of FireCracker Shrimps.
I plop a piece into my mouth, my eye never leaving Y/N as she picks up a piece to eat.
“So,” I begin after swallowing, “What do you do during this month?”
“Well, like I said, we fast from sunrise to sunset.” She replies. “No eating or drinking until we can break our fast.”
“Not even water?” I blurt the question out and I instantly regret it, not wanting to offend her.
“I’m sorry-”
Y/N shakes her head and her smile is kind as she says, “It’s okay. You’re just curious.” She eats another piece of shrimp and says around a mouthful, “No, not even water.”
When we’re finished with the small bowl, I bombard her with several questions that she is all too happy to answer. I can tell that she loves her religion and what she practices from the way her eyes light up, along with the ever present smile on her lips.
I feel my own cheeks heat up and my heart hammering against my ribcage, thankful that she trusts me enough to share these things with me.
“Why do you fast?” I ask her when the waitress brings the rest of our food along with our drinks.
“For spiritual reflection and self-improvement.” Y/N replies while scooping rice and curry onto her plate. “It also reminds us to be humble and thankful for what we have. We also give compassion and empathy for those who are less fortunate.”
Huh…That’s nice.
I’ve heard of similar things in other religions as well but not to the extent of fasting a whole month to humble oneself.
“We’re not allowed to chew gum, smoke, spray perfume, some will say they can’t even brush their teeth-just rinse their mouth.” Y/N lists some of the activities they aren’t allowed to do. “And we’re not allowed to have-”
Her eyes suddenly widen comically and her entire face turns as red as an apple. I’m not sure if I should laugh at how adorable she is or be concerned over how red her face has gotten.
“We’re not allowed to have the thing.”
“The thing?”
Y/N nods seriously.
Just as I was about to ask her to clarify, a memory pops into my head from when we first met.
When I was discussing the sex scene in Icha Icha and how you can feel the love and passion between the characters, Y/N was blushing as hard as she is now. I remember her quickly agreeing with me but asked me to please don’t talk about the thing.
Oh, so that’s what she meant.
I can’t help the smirk that grows across my lips behind the mask and it’s like Y/N can feel it because she glares at me.
“Shut up.” She mutters and I don’t tease her about it.
“Isn’t it difficult?” I ask her once the waitress has cleared off our table, informing us that she’ll be bringing the dessert menu over.
“Not really.” Y/N shakes her head. “You begin to fast after puberty and even before then you can practice for a bit if you want.”
“Plus, there are people who are exempt from fasting.” She adds.
“Like who?”
“Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or bleeding after childbirth.” Y/N holds up her index finger.
“Women who are on their period.” Her middle finger is next.
“People who are sick and need medication, the elderly and people who are traveling.” At last she holds up her ring finger.
“That’s actually interesting.” I say sincerely and I am nearly blinded by her smile.
“Right!”
God, what I’d do to lean over the table and kiss that smile.
“However, if you are able to, you should make up for the days you miss.” Y/N says seriously.
“What happens if you can’t?” I tilt my head, eyebrow furrowed in curiosity.
“You donate food or money to those in need. The amount of times you do this is the same as the days you’ve missed fasting.”
We don’t order dessert as their options are too big for just the two of us so I suggested we get some ice cream.
We walk in comfortable silence under the moonlight as I am lost in my thoughts over what Y/N has told me earlier.
“Is that why you’ve been avoiding me?”
Y/N freezes and looks up at me like a kicked puppy, “I wasn’t avoiding you, I literally just explained why.”
I chuckle and ruffle her hair, unable to resist her cuteness.
“But to answer your question…yes.”
“Why though?”
Y/N blinks twice before avoiding her gaze. “Well, you asked me out on a date before the months started and I couldn’t say no.” Her voice is small and her lips are tugged into a pout.
I reached out to hold her hand, my thumb rubbing soothing circles onto the back of her palm, “You know I wouldn’t have minded if you said no.”
Her pout is still on her lips when she turns to face me, “But you were so excited!”
I wish she could see the smile and the small blush on my cheeks, “True. I would’ve waited though…for you.”
Y/N is stunned into silence. As if she hadn’t considered the fact that I could wait if she told me about her situation from the start.
“I forgot I could do that.”Y/N says breathlessly, the picture of pure innocence.
I laugh. I laugh loudly, my entire body shaking.
How could anyone blame me for falling for her?
Y/N sends me a glare before dropping her hand from mine and marching to the ice cream shop.
I run towards her and wrap my arms around her to pick her up, loving the way she giggles and shrieks my name as I twirl us around.
“You’re ridiculous!” She huffs.
“You’re the one who forgot you can postpone a date.” I remind her with another laugh.
Y/N glares at me but I stun her to silence by leaning over and pressing my cloth covered lips against her cheek.
“Don’t worry,” I whisper in her ear happily. “We’ll have lots more dates in the future.”
Y/N grabs onto my arm, warm irises dropping to the floor, cheeks heating up as she softly mutters, “Promise?”
I smile at her, beaming.
“Promise.”

Gone Too Long |Shikamaru x Reader|
Summary: Not having his partner around begins to toll on Shikamaru
Word count: 3k
Lady Tsunade was assigning weekly chores to all the Shinobi who had yet to be assigned a mission. Usually these tasks were reserved for Genin, but this week had been slow for the village. Many Chunin and Jonin were left task less aimlessly patrolling the village.
"Shikamaru, you'll assist Iruka at the Academy for the remainder of the week."
Shikamaru let out a long dreadful sigh before muttering "What a drag, that's so much work." Just above his breath.
Shikamaru complaining was not out of the ordinary, but him complaining in front of the Fifth Hokage was and everyone took notice. Lady Tsunade slowly looked up from her journal with her eyebrow slightly raised. She was offering Shikamaru a chance to apologize before she completely ripped into him like she often did with Naruto. But all he did was smack his lips and cross his arms against his chest.
"Forgive him Lady Tsunade, he gets like this whenever y/n is gone on a mission." Ino announced proudly as a devilish smile graced her lips.
The other ninjas futilely tried to suppress their laughter but soon the whole room erupted into a uncontrollable fit. Even Lady Tsunade's scowl had turned into a humorous smile. Shikamaru's face began to turn beat red as his fellow shinobi teased him.
"So that explains his nasty attitude this whole week. Me and Akamaru knew there was something up with you!" Kiba laughed after Akamaru barked, agreeing.
"I bet his attitude will change once he gets some... special attention" Tenten snickered.
This even warranted a light chuckle from the stoned face Shino Aburame.
"Special... Attention?" Naruto mumbled completely lost. as usual he wasn't paying any attention and the joke had gone completely over his head. Kiba leaned over and explained the joke as clearly as he could. It took Naruto probably a full minute before he caught on and laughed with the rest of them.
Shikamaru grumbled under his breath, but didn't argue. As much as he hated to admit it to his friends, not having you around severely impacted his day to day interactions. He was constantly irritated because he didn't get as much sleep with you gone. The side of the bed where you usually reside seemed like a gaping hole with you not there, and no matter how much tossing and turning he did he was never comfortable.
He was frustrated that he couldn't come home to you after a long day of working with idiots. Even if you did nothing but tell him to give his teammates a break he missed the sound of your voice soothing him. He missed laying in your arms while you lectured that not everybody was a genius like him. At this point he would settle for your hands just gracing his.
And most of all he was distracted by the crippling fear that one of these days you might not come home to him. Shikamaru undoubtedly knew that you could handle yourself. Yall had spared a couple times and you'd come close to beating him more than once. But the idea of not being there to protect you often left him feeling helpless.
With these thoughts constantly running through his mind, it was difficult to focus on the seemingly mundane tasks he was often given. To be honest the only times he wasn't thinking of you was when he was on his own missions, and even then his thoughts were reserved for keeping his squad alive and staying alive himself specifically to see you again.
"Well you'll be glad to know she's coming back today, I'll be expecting you to be in a better mood tomorrow!" Lady Tsunade teased before shushing the crowd and returning to give out assignments.
-
Just as Shikamaru had thought working at the academy was the exact mindless work he dreaded so much. They could've put him with the younger children, given him a challenge, well at least that's what he thought. Instead he supervised a group of kids around the ages of 9 to 11. These children were no stranger to Shikamaru or his legacy, actually any shinobi rumored to have amazing talent or great potential was a topic of discussion amongst the children in the academy. The stories they've heard of Shikamaru and the Nara clan as a whole were impressive enough to earn their respect. In fear of potentially earning themselves a bad name with someone they could possibly call their squad leader once graduating, They gave Shikamaru absolutely no problems.
"Shikamaru Sensei... is it true you forfeited your last match in the Chunin exams?!" A little boy shouted across the blacktop as he and a large number of his classmates came rushing towards the lazy uninterested ninja.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"I told you, Idiot!" A young girl exclaimed, hitting the previous boy in the back of the head with a scroll she had. "He was running out of Chakra and knew he couldn't finish the fight!"
The young girl's confident proclamation surprised Shikamaru. Every ninja in the village knew the story, but very few knew the reasoning behind his actions. Usually the only ones who accurately recounted the story were those who saw the match with their own eyes.
"Who told you that?" Shikamaru inquired.
"Y/n Sensei told our whole class the story the last time she came to the academy, had all of us try to figure out why you'd throw a match that you practically had won. She said it's her favorite story to tell students who are about to graduate."
"Yeah she said it's still the most amazing match she's watched during the Chunin exams, even now!"
"She told us that if we wanna be half the ninja you are, we always have to be thinking two steps ahead."
Shikamaru couldn't stop that infamous smirk from creeping onto his face. He loved hearing that you spoke to your class about him, that you even bragged about how talented he was, even if it was to a bunch of children. You admired him not only for the person he is, but the ninja he's become and that was a great honor to Shikamaru.
"Look, it's y/n Sensei, she's back from her mission!" The little girl from before yelled pointing over at the village's entrance. All the children fervently yelled your name in a vain attempt to get your attention. The academy laid on hill that allowed them to peer down at the entire village, though they could see you, you could not see them.
Shikamaru acting as if he too were one of your students rushed to the fence to see if they were correct, if finally the love of his life had returned home. Sure enough right alongside Kakashi and Tsume there you were. Your smile is as bright as ever despite having a few minor scrapes and bruises. Butterflies filled the pit of Shikamaru's stomach and what was just a sly smirk had turned into a full blown smile, teeth and all. He's heart fluttered, but skipped a beat at the same time it was like he had seen you for the first time.
"Go ahead, class is wrapping up anyway!" Iruka whispered over to him.
Shikamaru was stunned, he was so entranced by the sight of you he was completely ignorant to his surroundings. For the first time since he graduated from the Academy he had let Iruka sneak up on him. Your being gone had even a greater hold on him than he initially thought. He needed to see you right now.
He thankfully patted Iruka on his back before darting off toward the exit. He knew you'd first go to Ichirkau Ramen to pick up dinner for the two of you, a tradition set in place to celebrate a successful mission. So if he could move quick enough he could make it to the flower shop and back to the apartment the two of you shared before you. He did not want a cold empty uninviting apartment to be what greeted you once you returned home, especially after seeing you had endured wounds while on your mission. Honestly he didn't want you to have to worry about a thing.
Once he fumbled into the door, he immediately began to prepare for your arrival. He lit every candle he could find and arranged them around the perimeter of the bathroom while the water for a hot bath drew. He even went as far as to place rose petals in the water. Something he never understood but knew you would appreciate. When that was handled he placed one of his t-shirts on the counter and dimmed the lights. He could hear your footsteps approaching down the hall.
His nonchalant nature made it absolutely impossible for him to display any type of excitement or anticipation willingly. Due to this he sprinted back to living snatching up a book that was left on the coffee table and pretended to read it as you walked into the room.
He lowered the book just below his nose being careful to conceal the wide tooth smile he had behind those pages.
"You're home." He announced very casually.
You laughed. He never exceeded those two words when it came to welcoming you back, never a "I missed you" or "I'm so excited to see you" always those two words. When you first started dating such a dull response hurt your feelings, you wanted him to be jumping for joy to see you. Now the promise of hearing those two words was the primary motivation in completing your missions.
"And look, ramen!" You squealed slightly shaking the bag.
Shikamaru glanced over at the bag then returned his gaze to his book. You scoffed slightly offended, this was your favorite part of coming home, pigging out on loads of ramen after eating forest food for a week. Shikamaru knew this! He'd let you recite the details of your mission to him while he attentively listened, it was when you explained all the scrapes and bruises you inevitably always returned with.
"Go get cleaned up so we can eat." He demanded eyes still glued to that stupid book.
Your face fell, that childish giddy smile now wiped clean away. Shikamaru had never had a problem sharing at least a quick meal with you before you hopped in the shower. You were well aware of the toll half a day's walk had on one's body, but was this your boyfriend's crude way of telling you, you smelled. You sat the ramen on the dining room table not bothering to suppress the pout on your face.
Shikamaru got a glimpse of your expression out the side of his eye and immediately felt guilty. Perhaps there was a better way of getting you in the bathroom to see his surprise for you. One that hadn't made you feel so self conscious or small. For such a genius he made some stupid mistakes.
He placed his book on the coffee table to meet you in the kitchen. Bypassing the food he snuck behind you, creeping his arms around your waist before planting a small soft kiss on your cheek. Shikamaru snuggled his head into your neck before speaking.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so crass." He mumbled against your skin. "But I do have a surprise for you in the bathroom."
You perked up at the mention of a surprise. A wide grin sneaking on your lips as the scowl you held earlier dissipated. Shikamaru had always been a thoughtful boyfriend even if he was so coy in his interactions with you. He'd fill the apartment with roses for your anniversary , then downplay the extravagant act when you walked in the door. He once planned an entire surprise birthday party for you just to spend the entire night proclaiming he barely did anything. You were excited to see what considerate display your partner had put together this time.
You let out a small gasp as you walked into the romantically decorated bathroom. The dim candles created such a relaxed yet intimate ambiance to the entire space. You chuckled some at the rose petals. Despite the countless lectures both you and Ino had received on how pointless it was to pick the petals off of roses when a person could simply just give their partner a bouquet of roses, he still included them in your warm bath.
"Shika... you didn't have to do all this."
"It was nothing." He reassured disregarding the full speed sprint from the academy to the Yamanaka flower shop, then to the apartment. "Here let me help you."
Shikamaru assisted you in removing your garments. He knew how even the smallest tasks could bring out the failure's in your body after such a long mission. Something as simple as slipping out of a pair of cargoes seemed like a feat to a body so sore from what felt like an endless battle. He let you grasp onto his forearm before dipping into the tub and sinking shoulder deep. The warm water against your ailing body felt almost euphoric. As usual Shikamaru knew exactly what you needed.
Of course your generous boyfriend could not stop there, running you a bath was not enough. He was going to bathe you himself too. Tenderly rubbing the dirt and grime from every cut and scrape on your body.
"How'd you get this one?" a question he asked ever so often. His tone is always dull and irritated.
Shikamaru hated to see you covered in bruises. You called them a causality of the job, but to him they were just a sign that he wasn't there to protect you. He would try to ignore the small ones, but any that seemed too deep or painful he felt obligated to inquire about. Although he never liked the answer. That's probably why wiping away your wounds was so therapeutic for him. If he couldn't prevent the pain, at least he could alleviate it now.
"A shuriken hit me, cheap shot." You huffed.
Your boyfriend's face didn't soften, in fact you were sure you saw him actually grimace at the mention of you getting hit. You wondered why he even tortured himself asking questions he didn't want the answer to. Nonetheless you weren't going to let some small injuries ruin your first night home.
"Rumor around the village is you missed me a whole lot while I was away. "
Shikamaru's cheeks instantly flushed as he averted his eyes away from you. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously as a few unsure chuckles fell from his mouth. He was searching for the words to say.
"I ran into Naruto at Ichiraku's, he said you had such an attitude with all of them. Heard you even snapped at Lady Tsunade you missed me so much."
"Damn, Naruto!" He mumbled underneath his breath. "You mess up my whole routine when you leave!"
You let out an exaggerated sigh at the tired excuse.
"Give it up Nara, you missed me!"
Reluctantly the shadow ninja accepted defeat. He laced his now wet hands with yours and brought them to his lips. He planted a trail of endearing kisses up your arm to your elbow before gently returning your hand to the soothing water.
"I'm a mess when you're not here. I swear you occupy so much space in my brain, I can't even think straight. I miss you so much."
The revelation caught you off guard. Maybe it was his lustful entrance of finally having you home after a month, but Shikamaru very rarely was this vulnerable with you. Such words blossomed butterflies in your stomach. It was as if Shikamaru was confessing his feelings for you for the very first time.
"I love you so much y/n."
"I Love you too."
The two of you feel into a comfortable silence. Shikamaru stood to grab you a dry towel. Reluctant you feel deeper into the water, Although drawing colder you couldn't imagine getting out the tub just yet. After all it had been weeks since you allowed yourself to be pampered in such a way. You wanted to savor every moment.
"God, this feels so good." You moaned in pleasure.
Shikamaru raised an eyebrow at your blissful proclamation, that infamous smirk plastered on his face. He approached the tub, abandoning the towel on the counter, and kneeled behind you. He snaked his hand up your torso, fondling you some before they landed at your neck. You'd have let out a small gasp if the familiar feeling of his fingers lightly squeezing your throat hadn't completely knocked the air out of you. He kissed his way from behind your ear down to the base of your neck.
"I can make you feel better."
-
The next morning the two of you found yourselves in Lady Tsunade's office, along with your comrades. As usual the Fifth Hokage was assigning daily tasks, when her eyes fell upon Shikamaru. His demeanor was clearly different from yesterday, His hands had returned to his pockets and his scowl had been replaced with a content grin.
"You seem to be in better spirits Shikamaru." Tsunade announced inquisitively. "I assume you've resolved that issue of yours?"
The other shinobi snickered at her insinuation. The attention made both you and Shikamaru look down at the floor hoping it would open up and consume you two whole. Shikamaru rubbed the back of his neck, eyes closed before answering.
"Yes Ma'am."

“I do hate to do this to you, but you’re the best choice. There’s not an Inuzuka available who has the security clearance necessary, which makes you the only ninken-user I can assign this to.”
Kakashi nodded and shrugged, brushing off the unspoken apology. “I understand, it’s no issue.”
Tsunade pursed her lips into a thin line, nodding solemnly. “If it wasn’t so time-sensitive, I’d put someone else on it, I swear.” She tucked a loose strand of her silvery blond hair behind her ear and shuffled the papers on her desk, bringing a personnel file to the top. “And to accompany you… Again, I’m really sorry, but she’s the only one who makes sense. She was in the area most recently out of all available jonin and her weapons expertise makes her the best candidate to accompany you.”
His eyebrows dipped together in mild confusion. He would have requested this partner if she hadn’t been assigned—he agreed fully that they would make the best team for this recovery mission. Shaking it off, he nodded again. “Sounds great, Lady Fifth. Anything else?”
Tsunade let out a breath she had been half holding and leaned back in her chair. Tonton gave a relieved squeak and Shizune pulled her closer to her chest. The Hokage dragged her hands across her eyes, then leaned forward on her elbows.
“Glad you’re taking this so well. I thought you’d at least argue about your fiancé going with you, if not objecting to being sent on a mission right now at all.”
Kakashi jerked his head backwards and to the side, scanning over the Sannin with his single vibrant, gray eye. “I’m sorry if I gave you the impression I like to argue with superiors, Tsunade-sama. That’s really more Naruto’s thing.” She snorted, and he took it as a good sign. “When would you like us to head out? Thirty minutes?”
Immediately, Tsunade shot him down. “She needs a medic to look her over before she can go into the field. I’m happy to do it myself. Her training with her team ends at noon, right?” She glanced at the clock, then gestured to Shizune. “Send Kotetsu or Izumo to pull her, we can’t wait that long.” With a quick nod, she ducked out of the room. “Meanwhile, you can go pack bags for you both. Be sure to grab her med pack, I’ll probably need to give her a bonus prescription or two for the journey.”
At this point, Kakahi’s confusion could no longer be dismissed. Why would his fiancé need extra medication for a mission? He had just seen you when you left to meet your team of genin, and you hadn’t mentioned anything. Maybe the stomach bug you had had a few weeks ago had been worse than you let on?
“Sorry, prescriptions? Are we facing potential poisoning?” He tried, looking for an explanation.
Tsunade shook her head firmly. “Anything is possible, but I’m not concerned about it.” She ran her hand backward through her hair, shaking it gently toward the ends and letting it fall out of the way. “More concerned with making sure she’s getting the correct nutrients. I’ve been working on the nutritional value of shinobi rations, but it’s hard to find something that’s shelf stable, lightweight, and compact without just being food pills.”
Kakashi agreed, a debate he had heard on nearly every long term mission. “So you’ll give us both supplements, fair. Should we do my physical now while we wait on my fiancé to arrive?” He relished the words in his mouth, the phrase “my fiancé” almost a dream to him, even still.
She gave a bemused chuckle, glancing the scarecrow of a man up and down. “Why, you have some kind of boo-boo you need me to kiss?” Tsunade returned to the paperwork on her desk, shuffling it again and pulling the shinobi copy of the mission details file out, holding it out to him. “I trust you to get whatever nutrients you need after all these years of life, Bakashi,” she teased.
He didn’t move to take the file. “What’s going on?” he demanded, as respectfully as absolutely necessary. “What’s going on that she needs a medical check and extra medication to travel on a mission? Why did you think I would object to being paired with her? It’s not our first mission together, not even since we got engaged. What am I forgetting?”
Tsunade didn’t react to his interrogation, continuing to organize paperwork and leaning down to pull open a drawer in her desk, sliding his and your personnel files inside. “The fetus, maybe?” She offered, waving a hand like it was obvious.
The what?
For a moment, Tsunade could almost hear the cogs grinding in the shinobi’s head. You passing him every drink that had been pushed on you in the last few weeks, the stomach bug that he had never caught, and the uptick in morning meetings you had.
Then the cogs were brought to a halt, and the whole world froze. The blood running through his body was ice cold, and he felt his fingertips and forehead tingling. Were you really pregnant?
Was he, Kami forbid, going to be a father?
Tsunade swore, knowing she shouldn’t have said anything violating medical confidentiality, but with the pregnancy already being in the second trimester, she had no idea that you hadn’t told Kakashi yet. “Listen, Kakashi… just sit down, okay?” She looked around, swearing again at the reminder that this damn office had no chairs outside of the one she occupied.
She jumped up, crossing over to Kakashi and pushing him forward into the chair behind the desk. “Breathe, Kakashi, come on.” She shook him gently, then lightly slapped his cheek. “Come on, soldier. You’re Kakashi of the Sharingan, master of a thousand jutsu, pull it together.”
He flatly refused.
The door to the Hokage’s office opened, Shizune and Tonton leading you in. You took a moment to take in the scene of your fiancé hyperventilating behind the desk, the Hokage herself swearing and trying to get him to make eye contact and pull air into his lungs. Then he saw you, and he paused, fear in his eyes.
“Is it true—I mean, are you—love, are you pregnant?” He choked out.
Your hand flew to your mouth as if to put the secret back inside. You knew you’d have to tell him eventually, but you had wanted the moment to be right and he had been so busy with his missions lately. He didn’t know it yet, but you had rented a room at a nearby onsen for next weekend, making sure to get a room with a private bath and windows high enough that no onlookers could see inside so that he could comfortably remove his mask. That would’ve been the way you preferred he find out, when rather than dessert, you slid the sonogram across the table after dinner. Instead, you nodded.
“Yes, my love,” you whispered. “I’m pregnant.” Instinctively, your hand rested over the part of your stomach that had begun showing this last week.
He seemed to melt into chair. “Kami… we’re going to be parents?”
You nodded, a small laugh breaking from your chest. “Yes, Kakashi, that’s the plan.”
Slowly, he gathered himself, standing up and delicately walking around the desk to the doorway where you remained. “I… You want this?” He sniffed hard, blinking twice and taking your hands. “You want to raise a child with me? This child?”
You tilted your head to the side, feeling hot tears sting your eyes. You knew he had issues with his self worth, and that would be something you would focus on for the next few months so he’d be ready for your child.
“Of course, ‘Kashi. There’s no one I trust more, no one I think would make a better father. I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else, and I’m thrilled that I get to do it with you.”
His wiry frame jolted as though he’d been shocked, and the threw himself into your arms, allowing his fears and shock to leave him through tears. Tsunade and Shizune averted their eyes, doing what they could to preserve your privacy. Tonton oinked in solidarity. After a couple of moments, he stood again, wiping dry the parts of his face not covered by salty, wet fabric. He then hooked a finger into the mask at the side of his nose, yanked it down, and brought you into a deep kiss, warm hands wrapping around you and pulling you close.
After the surprise, you let yourself dissolve into him, allowing yourself to be swept into his emotional display. He pulled his face back after a few beats and beamed, smiling as widely as you could remember seeing him grin. Then his mouth was back on yours, this time for just a second, then a firm kiss to your forehead before he secured the mask again. Turning to face the Hokage, he wrapped his arm around your back and held you close.
“Tsunade-sama, all due respect, can Pakkun handle this? I’ll send him with anyone you’d like. Naruto, even, I don’t think he’s doing anything tonight. I can send the whole pack. I can brief Gai, or Tenzo, anyone? And if you need a weapons expert, I’m sure Tenten is more than qualified.” You giggled, watching your fiancé ramble to the leader of the village. “It’s just, I’m going to be a father, and she’s pregnant with our child, and I’ve gotta say, I don’t think we’re going on any missions for the next, say, 18 years? Well, maybe some D ranks. We’ll see.”
As Tsunade opened her mouth, he cut her off with a pointed, “How’s the progress on the Konoha Orphanage coming along? They prepared for one more? Cause I’m not letting anything happen to either of us, for this child’s sake.”
Tsunade glared, but was startled out of the shouting match she was gearing up for by Shizune chuckling. Betrayed, she turned to her companion.
“I mean, this is the reaction you anticipated him having, Lady Fifth,” she giggled.
She slammed a fist on the desk, although with an intense amount of restraint given that the surface was not even dented. Finally, she looked up with a glint in her eye.
“I think Hana Inuzuka gets back this evening. I can give her twelve hours to rest and then she and Tenten, along with Gai, can probably handle it. This time.”
Kakashi was already on his way out the door, pulling you behind him in a firmly clasped hand, before she had finished. He called out a thanks over your shoulder as you left. Together, you giggled as you entered the streets of Konoha.
Your fiancé spun in circles, laughing freely and spreading his arms out. “We’re starting a family!” he shouted to the sky. You knew you would both continue to take missions with this child, and that was a conversation for another time. For now, though, you were content to spend eternity watching the love of your life giddily relish in this moment.

Thanks for sharing your writing. Your blog has sold me on character x reader fic in a way I didn’t think could be done. Hope you have lots of fun writing for your event! Love from, Shy Shrimp Anon 🦐

Title:  Love and Destiny (AO3 Link Here) Summary: You return from a long mission abroad with important news.  (Family: A group of people related either by consanguinity or affinity.) Word Count:  1,820 Warnings:  none; gn!reader. .
It had been a long time since you’d seen the Village Hidden in the Leaves.  Your mission slate had taken you far away and kept you there for months, traversing land you never thought you’d have the chance to see as you brokered treaties with small villages in the wake of Orochimaru’s incursion, securing funding for Konoha through deals assuring the use of your shinobi under the newly appointed Fifth Hokage.
Diplomacy was taxing, not at all what you’d set out to do when you decided to become a ninja.  But it had some dazzlingly wonderful, if unexpected, consequences.
Your first day back was spent debriefing with Tsunade and filling out required paperwork.  You sipped tea while she sneaked sips of sake from the secret stash in her desk drawer.  When she offered you some, you politely declined.  Months of dinner meetings with important figures had soured your taste for the stuff.
You’d broken the lease on your apartment when you left, stashing your few precious belongings with a trusted friend and selling or donating the rest because you had no way of knowing when you’d be back.  For now, you decided to stay at a small inn at the center of the village, walking distance to all the shops you’d missed in your absence.  Takeout from Yakiniku Q and Ichiraku topped your list of things to do upon your return.
You were disappointed to discover that Gai Maito and his team were out of the village on a mission. When you asked Shizune about it, she assured you they would be back in a few days’ time.
Despite the quick shock of displeasure that lanced through you when you realized you couldn’t see your old friend immediately, you channeled the Green Beast’s signature optimism as you set about enjoying your return to Konoha while you waited for him to complete his assignment.
It wasn’t difficult. As it turned out, you had plenty to keep you busy in the interim.  More peers than you’d expected were all too happy to take you out for tea or dango to catch up on all that had happened while you were away.
Despite the need for secrecy in their work, shinobi were notorious gossips, and you enjoyed all the half-whispered updates on your fellow ninjas’ love lives.
You yourself had a bit of news you were practically bursting to share, but you dared not open your mouth until you’d had the opportunity to speak with Gai first.  You fidgeted as Anko Mitarashi told you Iruka Umino had been revealed as Tenzo’s Soulmate—the twin marks on their arms appearing when they bumped into one another in the Hokage Tower.
Tenzo, had just returned from a difficult ANBU assignment and stumbled into the chunin as Iruka made his way toward the mission desk to complete a shift.
The pair were apparently the talk of Konoha as they were the most recently discovered Soulmate Pair, much to the chagrin of half the village who had been hoping the sweet Academy teacher might be revealed as their own other half.
According to Genma Shiranui, who poked his head into the conversation halfway through, Tenzo and Iruka were both constantly blushing disasters now that they knew.  He’d spied on their first date only to be discovered before they finished their appetizers because he laughed so hard the senbon in his mouth embedded itself in their table.
“They’re a mess,” Anko agreed, slinging her arm around her own Soulmate’s shoulders and pressing a sloppy kiss to the man’s cheek.
You snorted.  “Please, the two of you weren’t any better.”
Genma and Anko both had the decency to blush and quickly turned the conversation toward the improvements to the Hospital being made at the behest of the new Hokage.  You chuckled at their embarrassment, but let them have what little dignity remained to them.
As the days crept by, you began to worry Team Gai would not make it back before you departed once again. The paperwork you’d completed that first day in Tsunade’s office had been finalized faster than you expected, and you were now only biding time before you left again.  As soon as word arrived from abroad that your request had been accepted, you’d need to depart immediately.  The thought that you might not see Gai before that weighed heavily on you.
Then, one week after your return, you were accosted by a pair of strong, familiar arms as you made your way home from the market.
“Welcome home, my dear, dear friend!”
You smiled, returning the embrace quickly, even if you could never hope to match the man’s strength.
“Gai!”
By the time you pulled away, each of you excitedly inquiring as to how the other was doing in a rushed chorus that made it impossible for anyone else to understand your conversation, your cheeks hurt from your ever-broadening grin.
You took a breath.  “It’s so good to see you.”
Gai’s smile was as blindingly bright as ever when he agreed.
Suddenly, all the excitement drained away, replaced by the nervous pounding of your heart as you asked Gai if he had a moment to spend with you privately so you could share some news.
There was a slight flash of concern in the man’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced with his signature bravado as he happily followed you through the streets of Konoha.  It took a few minutes before you found an empty bench, one secluded enough along a side street that no one was likely to interrupt your conversation.
You settled onto one end of the bench, letting your bag filled with produce and rice sit at your feet. Gai sat next to you, stretching with a wide yawn.
“You look exhausted, Gai.”
He chuckled.  “Our mission went longer than it was supposed to. I won’t deny I’m looking forward to a hot shower and a good sleep tonight.”
You looked down at your lap, picking at your uniform sleeve self-consciously.  “If you’d rather go, we can catch up another time, I don’t—”
A sharp call of your name cut you short and you looked up to find Gai scowling at you.
“Nothing is more important to me than my friends.  You have important news to share, I can see that.”  He leaned back, draping one arm over the bench.  “Tell me,” he said, giving you his full, rapt attention.
You took a deep breath and tugged the sleeve up, holding out your forearm to Gai.  Though it took him a moment to process, soon the sheen of happy tears was unmistakable in his eyes as he grasped your arm, one finger tracing delicately over the pale mark on your skin.
“You found your Soulmate!”
You nodded happily, mouth splitting into another wide grin.
“I did.”
It had been totally unexpected, a chance encounter with a chunin in another village that resulted in the matching symbols appearing on your arms.
“When?  Where?  Who are they? Are they good to you?  Smart?  You deserve someone who is smart.  When I can meet them?”
Gai’s questions continued in a seemingly endless stream, and you answered them all the best of your ability, laughing happily along with him as he congratulated you, hugged you, chuckled heartily at the story of your first date, hugged you again…
It was good to be home, you decided.  More than seeing Konoha or eating Ichiraku Ramen, sitting here with Gai, talking with him, drinking in his unquenchable enthusiasm—that was what home meant to you.
Like many of your generation, you’d lost your parents in the attack of the Nine-Tailed Fox.  Certainly not the only orphan, you were happy with the family you’d built for yourself in the wake of the disaster; friends and colleagues you knew you could call upon when needed.
But none of them so close to you as Gai.  He was the brother you never had and more.  For years, others had teased the two of you that you must be Soulmates yourselves, but you’d both just shaken your heads.  None of them knew about the mark Gai shared with another jonin of the village, and he’d sworn you to secrecy when he told you—a promise you took more seriously than any mission you’d ever been assigned by the Hokage.
You and Gai weren’t Soulmates, the bond you shared ran deeper than destiny.  Your relationship was undertaken by choice, a decision you would make every day all over again for the rest of your lives.
“When do you leave?”
Gai’s voice was uncharacteristically soft when he asked the question, gaze distant as he watched the blue sky shift to shades of orange and pink as the sun sank lower over Konoha.
“Why do you assume I’m leaving?” you asked, but the smile on your face belied your feigned ignorance.
Gai turned to look at you, the same soft expression on his face.  “You deserve to be with them.  Konoha is in no state to take in new citizens.  So, my friend, again I’ll ask: When do you leave?”
“Probably next week,” you said, “assuming all the paperwork there goes through and I’m granted a visa.”
Part of you was sad to be leaving Konoha—moving far away to start a new life with the Soulmate chosen for you by the universe itself.
But the excited flutter of your heart let you know you were ready for this next adventure.  You didn’t know how long you’d be gone this time, but you knew you would find your way back here eventually.  Konoha was your home.  Gai was your family.  Nothing—no Soulmate or mission or natural disaster—would ever change that.
“I’m happy for you,” Gai said, pulling you into another crushing hug.
You sighed, wrapping your arms around him tightly.  “Thank you.”
You wanted to say more, but knew it wasn’t necessary.  Gai always understood your meaning, even when you didn’t.
As soon as you pulled apart, Gai leapt to his feet, clutching a determined fist.  “Now!  We must celebrate this joyous news!  Let’s get dinner!  And then drinks!  I’ll invite all our closest friends.”
You chuckled, grabbing your grocery bag as you stood.  “I thought you were tired.  There’s really no need to go to all that trouble.”
One of his strong hands landed on your shoulder as Gai beamed at you.  “My dear friend, nothing is more important to me than celebrating my loved ones.  Sleep can wait.  Tonight, we celebrate!”
As you let Gai lead you back into the center of the village, one arm slung around your shoulders, you couldn’t help but smile.  And when he raised a glass to toast you and your Soulmate, you felt tears of gratitude spring to your eyes.
Because Soulmate or no, you knew no one would ever love you as much as Gai Maito.  And for that, you would always be grateful.
