Y'all ever get customers you see once and then never again, but you still find yourself wondering what they're up to years later?

Some of my personal favorites include

*The super polite woman who asked and had to confirm multiple times that she wanted an extra ten pumps of flavor in her drink (the usual amount being four)

*Bolt the mastiff who walked himself down to us

*The super corporate-professional looking man wearing a completely dead inside expression and charcoal gray business suit that matched his Prius, other than the rhinestone decals that covered nearly the entire car in phrases such as 'Princess' and 'Daddy's Gurl'

*The straight faced woman who had a hairy sex doll in a speedo and covered in tattoos in her backseat

*The elderly man who shuffled slowly as he walked everywhere who one day just folded and held himself effortlessly in the most awkward, off balance, sideways leaning pose I've ever seen to stare at something. I had to move to see what was holding his attention. It was a woman's butt

*SANTA

*The pants-less woman who, when I gave her the total, reached UP BETWEEN HER LEGS and pulled out a very foggy and nearly empty gallon Ziploc bag, pulled out exact cash in quarters, and casually paid. I was too stunned to take my hand back and had to wash my hands

*Bobby Singer.

*The woman who wanted an ice cream cone for her 100th birthday. You bet we gave her the ice cream cone and a mini celebration at the window

*The man who effortlessly steered a FLATBED TRUCK with a car on top of it through our drive thru and didn't hit a single thing

*The poor tourists who looked miserable the entire time they were in our lobby, both completely decked out in merch for a major tourist attraction with a very similar name to our local one that was on the opposite side of the country

*The totally normal couple who came through who, when they drove off, apperently had a middle aged woman in their backseat on all fours baring her teeth and glaring at me

*The woman who got handed her order in the backseat of a cop car, because it's a small town and she told the cop arresting her she was hungry

*The woman who handed me a handful of broken glass as payment

*The college kid who fell asleep in his car in the drive thru, prompting another customer to freak out that someone had died

Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).

Maya is incredible. I loved her.

I haven't finished all the issues yet, but do you have any other recommendations?

a ramble about arthur's relationship with dutch and hosea

haven't used tumblr in a while (let alone made an actual original post in who knows how long) but i can't stop thinking about that one interaction between dutch and arthur in lakay. specifically: "you sound like hosea." it breaks my heart, because dutch is right in saying that. as chapter six unfolds into the tragedy it is, arthur becomes more and more like hosea, and just like hosea, arthur tries and tries and fails to get dutch, stubborn and single-minded, to see reason.

one of my favourite journal entries, is where arthur says, "i love dutch like a father, but in many ways i love hosea more." arthur loved hosea. hosea saw arthur for who he was. knew arthur wasn't near as dumb as he liked to pretend he was. one of my favourite interactions between arthur and hosea is early on in chapter 3, very shortly after they get to clemens point. arthur walks by hosea sitting at a table, who calls out to arthur and asks what he thinks about dutch's plans. arthur's response is "you know me, i never did much thinking." to which which hosea says one of my favourite lines in the game, and it's a line that gives far more insight into arthur, hosea and their dynamic than you might first think.

dutch was arthur's father in a more abstract way. whether it was dutch's intention or not (and i believe, at the very least, it was later on), i always found his "you're like a son to me" comments to arthur to be very manipulative in nature, meant to reel arthur back in when he's concerned he's "getting away," so to speak. i have personal experience with men trying to get me on their good side by saying i'm like a kid to them, and maybe i'm projecting a little because of that, but the way dutch says that to arthur triggers the same alarm bells in my brain.

again: "i love dutch like a father, but in many ways, i love hosea more." say what you want, but hosea was arthur's true dad. he was his dad in all the ways that mattered. hosea knew arthur so well, he knew arthur was putting on "an angry moron act." in the video i linked, he sounds genuinely frustrated when he continues saying "but it's a thin enough veneer." he knows arthur is capable of more. is capable of being better, and i think hosea knew that things were doomed in the end, whether or not he would admit it.

arthur spent a lot of time, both early in the story and at the end, reflecting on what was happening, on himself, on the other gang members. i like to think he was unconsciously channeling hosea in chapter 6. honestly, the parallels are kind of painful. maybe that's, in part, why dutch was so adamant on not listening to arthur; because he reminded him, painfully, of hosea, his oldest and dearest friend. of course, that's not the only reason, but it makes sense, doesn't it? arthur is so much like hosea, and we see that more and more as the story progresses.

i feel like shit owuld be so much better if people swapped "narcissist"/"narcissistic" as insults to "self-absorbed." cause usually when theyre referring to things like 'narcissistic abuse' or 'a narcissist' they're just referring to a self-absorbed asshole, not someone with NPD. just a teeny tiny shift of language would really do wonders for people Not misunderstanding an already-stigmatized disorder.

I have feelings about this...

Until Dawn is a game where YOUR CHOICES AFFECT THE STORY. That is the core of the game. I don't like the idea of the movie definitively saying 'these are the canon choices', but then again, maybe it's one path...

The story is also tailored to the player in a way. Like, if you say you're scared of needles in the segment with Dr Hill, the killer will chase you with a syringe instead of a tank of gas. They're probably not going to be able to adapt that, which is a damn shame...

There's something unique about Until Dawn that I don't really want lost in adaptation.

There's also the issues with the monsters in the game being of Native American origins. I cant speak for how accurate or respectfully they've been represented in the original game as im not Native American (from what I've gathered, their appearance is better than some other uses, but thats about it), but if they're going to use them, it's better done with someone from the Cree tribe (the tribe used in the game, if i remember correctly) at the helm. Also, please cast someone of Native American descent as Jack Fiddler.

So yeah, I really love the game but it is a game which needs to be adapted with respect and sensitivity.

Hey unironically i think i should be hired by streaming sercives to fix their subtitles. I think there should be a way for viewers/streamers to report bad or inaccurate subtitles or ways they could be improved. I think they should be able to ask for better translations or ask to be told what language is being spoken if they switch languages. I think this should be an option for big blockbusters and random indie movies and international shows/movies and i think streaming companies should stop paying for the cheapest fucking options for their captioning

Amusing myself with a story idea where everyone’s names are now the literal meanings of their names, like we all got My Little Pony-ified. Since some names have multiple meanings, the different meanings would serve as nicknames or how family refer to you.

i’m sorry guys i can’t contain myself bumbleby has me in tears not even 48 hours later and i just have to gush about all this

Anyways… looking back on this has me awestruck, honestly. This is a story we’ve been patiently and impatiently attending to for years, a mesh of writing and art and voices and storytelling and animation cobbled together from the hands of many and the initial vision of just one. That seems pretty incredible to me.

My first girlfriend introduced me to this show when I was 14. Just barely a high school freshman. It was 2015, and Volume 3 hadn’t aired yet. Monty had just passed away and a lot of you, in the FNDM, didn’t know what lay ahead for RWBY. I joined after the uncertainty, before everything that followed. What we had was Burning the Candle, a couple cast jokes, and a few teasing hints that were eventually dismissed by the doubtful. I contented myself with how unlikely a lesbian couple was to ever occur onscreen, and made do with my own imagination. I loved the rich imagery of Blake and Yang’s partnership, the allusions of it, everything it could be. I mourned that it would likely never come to pass and vowed to explore it in my own time, with my own plan.

In the years that followed, I wrote over a million words (I did tally this from my Ao3 account!) and grew enormously along the way. It was this that made me decide to major in English & creative writing at a time I wasn’t even sure I wanted to go to college (I will be graduating next month with a magna cum laude in my field, which I can’t even fathom!) I made friends whom I still talk to, to this day. I devoured absolutely gorgeous pieces of fiction that tended and grew the love from the seed we had seen in the canon show into a garden of extraordinary variety (special shoutout @lightsaroundyourvanity, @thirteenyasmin, @thecousinsdangereux and @pugoata)! I pored over breathtaking works of fan art (looking at you @frankielucky, @corvophobia and @frishbi). I saw some damn good analysis from so many people (hey @almea, @canonbumbleby, & @bumblebyaf!) I watched Blake and Yang throughout the FNDM’s shock at the end of V3, the infighting throughout V4 as it seemed our high hopes would culminate in nothing, our bated breath at their reunion as V5 ended, to our euphoria in V6, and now. We watched, doubting and wondering and celebrating, as incrementally, Blake and Yang found their way back together first in presence, then in spirit. All the while, wondering, will-they-or-won’t-they?

I hoped so much, and doubted just as often, as many of you did, too. Prior to ever watching RWBY, I’d realized I was gay, but hadn’t ever expected to see someone like me represented in something I loved - at least not in a way where it wasn’t their whole identity rather than just another part, like loving the color blue or preferring coffee to tea. When we watched Lexa get shot, when we saw show after show with lesbian couples result in cancellation, when we became merely a moment in a finale or a passing scene, easily dismissed, it became so easy to let discouragement be the loudest voice of all.

But sometimes persistence pays off. Sometimes you do get to see the things you’ve loved for so long become more than wishful thinking. Sometimes you get days like yesterday. Where some of us cried, most of us laughed, and we all collectively lost our fucking minds in a way that felt like being a little kid again where everything just feels right.

I guess what I want to say is this: eight years passed. I am not the same person I was when I fell in love with the love that hadn’t even grown enough to be named as such between Blake and Yang. But that girl does live inside of me still, and yesterday, I got to celebrate with her just as freely as she did with me. Over the moon for all of this. Thank you CRWBY, thank you Eddy, Kerry, Arryn, Barbara, Yssa, Miles, and every other animator, concept artist, scriptwriter, every person who had even the slightest hand in making this possible. What a time to be alive!

I’m writing a story and I want to base my main character off of Suguru but I feel like I overthink his personality and overall way of being so I would like to (shyly) ask for your opinion on who you think he is!

Christ, Anon. You might have asked the wrong person for this, because I am not going to shut the fuck up about him. Fair warning, this is all my interpretation of Getou Suguru. If you disagree with it, I'm more than willing to have a civil conversation about it, but do not flame me over this. Thanks.

Now, speaking of Suguru, his character is genuinely so insane to me. I feel like an underrated aspect of Suguru's character within itself will be his morality. We often say that 'Suguru is Satoru's moral compass.' and while it isn't exactly wrong, there's depth to it, too.

Suguru feels as if protecting & looking after the weak is his duty as the stronger being. At face value, it may sound like something that is born from empathy and kindness, but if we dig deeper, there's ego & arrogance in it, too. He puts himself on the pedestal of the Strongest before he does a saviour. His actions are hinged around his capability rather than his actual heart.

Which is why it actually makes sense how quickly he turns because his actions and beliefs are rooted in responsibility and hierarchy. If you lose faith in your responsibility, then it's easy to disregard it all.

I don't think Suguru actually understands the sheer weight of what is at stake as a child, only that he knows that he has the ability to protect the weak so he must. This way, it makes sense why he quickly loses sight of his 'morals' the second he and his friends were put in danger. If they protect people, then who protects them?

I think Suguru's empathy extends not to the whole world as people have a tendency of making it seem, but rather it's confined to just the people whom he loves most. They are his priority. They are people who he would sacrifice even himself for in order to achieve.

Personality wise, I think that Suguru is a cynical piece of shit who hides his jackass personality behind a charming smile. I love him so much, he's such a dick. I think that when people portray him as this nice, perfect boy, they're actually being bamboozled by his perfected customer service smile.
