LOVELESS by Alice Oseman 🖤🤍💜
🖤🤍💜 review incoming...💚🤍🖤
Loveless is a young adult novel by the renowned author Alice Oseman. And it's also the first novel I've ever read with aro-ace rep, which as an asexual was one of the best things I've done to myself.
But seriously, even though this book is far from the only book with aro-ace and only feautures one aspect of being aromantic and asexual, it's a story close to my heart.
Telling the story of 18-year-old Georgia Warr who has never had a crush on anyone, it portrays what it means to come to terms with sexuality while exploring themes of friendship, love, and coming-of-age.
The thing that's especially beautiful about Loveless (and Oseman's other books) is how it's quintessentially about love in its many aspects. Platonic love, romantic love, love in friendships, and how love doesn't necessarily have to be like we see it in the movies. It doesn't have to be girl-loves-boy or even girl-loves-girl. The love we see in friendships can be just as important.
I hope we get to see more aro-ace stories in the media, but also ace stories with pan or biromantic attraction.
Also...could we please get a film adaptation of Loveless? Pleeease Netflix? 🥹

GJ and ZZH Updates — June 05-11 (nice)
<<< previous week || all posts || following week >>>
This is part of a weekly series collecting updates from and relating to Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan.
This post is not wholly comprehensive and is intended as an overview, links provided lead to further details. Dates are in accordance with China Standard Time, the organization is chronological. My own biases on some things are reflected here. Anything I include that is not concretely known is indicated as such, and you’re welcome to do your own research and draw your own conclusions as you see fit. A glossary of names and terms often used can be found [here]. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or additions. :)
06-05 → Filming for Go Fighting! continued with Gong Jun now in all black :x
→ Gong Jun’s studio Weibo reposted a video from People’s Daily about a rocket launch. Caption: “Wishing our Shenzhou 14 crew all the best, looking forward to the triumph!” (mtl)
→ A Twitter space was held between Naan, Qilin88, _zuokanyunshu, and clownfactories, with clownfactories there as a marketing professional to explain and discuss how endorsement agreements works. It’s 3 hours long but extremely informative, going into topics such as the endoresement terminations in August, the use of CP elements in advertising, and how involved Gong Jun likely is in the ads released by his endorsements. [summary notes]
→ QuelleVous recieved news that the umbrella behind CAPA has been replaced. This is a very good sign.
06-06 → Last day of filming Go Fighting!. During a break, Gong Jun gave some extra watermelon to fans who were watching. [videos]
Tumblr media
→ Honor posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun announcing activities at their offline stores from 06-07 to 06-10 to celebrate the anniversary of their endorsement.
→ Hsu Fu Chi posted four photo ads featuring Gong Jun. They later posted nine more. Fan Observation: Almost definitely a coincidence, but the timing is interesting given what was said about the brand during the previous evening’s Twitter space...
→ Honor posted a video spoken by Gong Jun promoting their product and wishing students luck on their entrance exams.
→ KFC posted a collection of illustrated ads, the first of which looks strikingly like Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan seen from behind. The text on the image ends with, “let’s come back together.” Fan Observation: The ad looks a lot like what Zhang Zhehan said in an interview last year would be his perfect life. 🥺
Tumblr media
→ We Are The Champions released a trailer for their upcoming season featuring Gong Jun. [cut of Gong Jun’s parts] WeTV’s Twitter later posted promotional images for it. Fan Observation: This was filmed last July.
→ Vox released an article written by the notorious fandom flamer Aja Romano about the Instagram deepfake controversy, painting fans who are critical of the videos and account as tinhat conspiracy theorists. The article also said that Zhang Zhehan entered the shrine (later edited out), and that most Chinese fans have moved on—both statements are obviously blatantly false. I will not be linking the article and I do not recommend giving it further traffic.
06-07 → Gong Jun posted the Honor commercial previously released on 05-30 to his personal Weibo. This was reposted by MUJOSH, 361°, LockNLock, and Baidu APP’s Weibo accounts with comments celebrating and promoting him and the product. Gong Jun later also posted part of the commercial to his Douyin.
→ Colgate posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.
→ Kangshifu posted three photo ads feauturing Gong Jun, wishing students luck on their exams.
→ KFC posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun, wishing students luck on their exams.
→ Gong Jun posted four photos of himself to his personal Weibo. Caption: “Keep up the good work tomorrow, do your best! ! !” This was reposted by Colgate.
→ Fresh posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.
06-08 → We Are The Champions posted a solo trailer of Gong Jun.
→ Bluebird posted an audio analysis of a video posted by Xie Yihua on 05-11 of “Zhang Zhehan” on the Great Wall. The analysis shows distinct signs of editing, most prominently in the fact that there are no sounds of him breathing.
→ 361° posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun, wishing students luck on their exams.
06-09 → The Instagram posted another photo, this one found to have been taken in Chongqing. It was probably taken in 2019, [source] [source], further evidenced by the fact that stores in the background no longer exist. Caption: “The entrance examinations are over 🔚 Go to the streets and alleys to find food”
→ 361° posted a commercial featuring Gong Jun for the launching of their new line in partnership with him. (1129 kadian) Caption: “Every hot youth has its own secret. Some people hide on desks, some people hide in notes, and some people hide in their hearts. It's another year of graduation season, does anyone still remember those secrets about youth?” (mtl) [purchase links for the new line] Fan Observation:  -  According to the brand’s livestreamer, the design supposedly designed by Gong Jun means, “Love surrounds you, you are my whole world, as far as the eye can see is you.”  -  The line’s advertisements includes one rather interesting photo (left):
Tumblr media
→ We Are The Champions posted another preview.
→ Gong Jun posted six photos of himself cooking and the food he cooked to this personal Weibo. Caption: “Went home! Learned two dishes [3 dog emojis]” He left a comment on the post with a screenshot of the recipe and the comment, “A brief introduction [dog emoji]” The photos were reposted by Mengniu, Downy, Colgate, BEAST, MARRSGREEN, LockNLock, and Kangshifu, the products of which are all visible in the photos.
He also posted three of the photos to his Instagram with the same caption, except specifying “Sichaun dishes” and without the emojis, and four of the photos and the recipe to his Xiao Hong Shu with the caption “Hahahaha back home!”
Fan Observations:   -  One of the dishes appears to be fried duck intestines. (There was a whole saga last fall about Gong Jun having an auntie staying with him in Hengdian who made him fried duck intestines. Some suspect the “auntie” was actually Zhang Zhehan.) [Here] is a translation of the recipe.  -  There are five pairs of chopsticks at the table: one for him, one for his father, one for his mother, one for his grandmother, and one for...?  -  06-09 is 05-11 on the lunar calendar. Addition 07-30: Second and third 浅, second only counting Weibo.
Tumblr media
→ 361° posted three photo ads featuring Gong Jun wearing their new line.
06-10 → A case study was posted by Beijing Xingquan law firm, the firm that represented Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun last year, about the illegal use of a public figure’s name and image in advertising. [translation]
→ LockNLock posted a commercial featuring Gong Jun. (1129 kadian) The caption includes “Want to have the company of Junjun's fun house and fun waves (浪)?” They also later posted a photo ad advertising their deals for 618 (shopping festival).
→ Xu Lin was announced as the new head of the NRTA, replacing Nie Chenxi who has reached retirement age.
→ WeTV posted the trailer for We Are The Champions previously posted by the show itself on the 6th to their Twitter with English subtitles.
→ 361° posted another short commercial featuring Gong Jun. Caption: “Keep loving the original intention and start the next journey. Follow @ Gong Jun Simon to explore the new trajectory of life and witness a better us.” (mtl)
06-11 → A Twitter space was held discussing Golden Shield, procedural justice, and Zhang Zhehan’s case. [written notes] QuelleVous followed up with two threads about Golden Shield [here] and [here].
→ Addition 06-12: Word of Honor’s opening song, Tian Wen, was used in a “guess the song” game on Hello Saturday! The actor who guessed it was Liu Yuning, the original performer of the song who will also be co-starring in Gong Jun’s upcoming drama Legend of AnLe. [subs of the spoken part] [comments by some fans on Weibo]
→ Mengniu posted a video with photos and a voice over featuring Gong Jun. Caption: “❗ Summer is unbearable and in urgent need of inspiration to cool off?Your good mood🍃 has been "gong" for a long time! Just tomorrow 😎, Mengniu 💚 and the spokesperson @ Gong Jun Simon will join hands with a mysterious partner to bring you a new energy of summer healing. Want to know exactly what kind of sparks will burst, stay tuned and don't stop!”
→ 361° posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun. (1129 kadian) Caption: “Hold on to your love and live up to your expectations. The time devoted to love will not be let down! ... Let your love story ignite more people's youthful memories~”
→ We Are The Champions posted a clip of Gong Jun. They also later posted a promo image of him.
→ Gong Jun posted three promo images for We Are The Champions to his personal Weibo. (12:19, 1129 kadian) Caption: “Daily three questions: Is your mobile phone fully charged today? Did you sigh today? Is Zhao Yun ‘covered’ today?”
→ The first episode of We Are The Champions aired, available with auto-translated subs. [Here] is a thread explaining the game being played.
→ Honor posted a video spoken by Gong Jun for a deal on their new product. (14:11, 511 kadian) Fan Observation: There’s an odd amount of jump cuts, these videos are usually only a couple takes at most.

Check the facts
Lol. I want a perfect comeback, I'm going to hold my breath before every next step, heh.
To be honest, the way many of the Mysteries were filmed didn't leave an impression on me. This style was done before for NCT, so it didn't feel fresh. And the camerawork has that "vlog with pretty filters" feeling I don't like because it doesn't read as "mini-film". Only Johnny's and Doyoung's stood out. The lore helped to ignite the excitement though.
I nitpick, of course. I desperately want the quality of legendary NCTmentaries back, but we all now these Mysteries were shot like a week ago.
Anyway. The first teaser. Simple, but thanks for the attempt at presentation. The music was nice, it what gave the clip some spice.
It looks like a throwback to NCT2020 YearParty. Neos in light blue colours were gathering at one place.
There is the same camerawork and walking around. Neos separated in groups. The groups matter for the current story. JohnYu, who were together in Ay-Yo, the last chapter, is a testimony to that.
Does the blue piece of fabric on fire represent Reality (their planet) burning?
The teal blue carpet and a lift-like structure. Let's call it The Transporter. Neos are preparing to go on a mission into the Dreeam reality, all are very serious. As usual, they are observed and recorded. And there is a hint it's Haechan's job again.
The feeling the clothes are giving is Circus theme. Dream's Riding had the closest style to them.
Wow, Prada pays a lot to be feautured in NCT MVs.
These clothes should stay only for the photobook. I see them being editorial, but otherwise they are sad and definitely not for dancing. Looking at Doyoung's flower on his coat looking down, "sad" could have been intentional.

Fortunately for playwright Matthew López, who makes his feauture writing and directing debut with the project, he hadn’t quite grasped…

Audition is a japanese novel written by Ryu Murakami. Originaly,it was published it 1997 (japanese ver.) and later in 2009 in English. The story follows a middle-aged man named Aoyama who lost his wife 7 years ago and he hasnt dated since. Aoyama lives with his son Shige and their house maid. On the recommendation of a physician Aoyama sets two goals for himself: 1. To spend as much time as possible with Shige and 2nd goal was to bring an acclaimed East German pipe organist to Japan to hold a free concert, which in reality is a ploy so that he may record the rare concert and sell it on VHS. Aoyamas friend Yoshikawa notices his friends sadness and decides to help him find a new love by making aj audition for a nonexistent film. Aoyama,at first, thought this idea would never see the light but later,he accepted it. There were many many girls who wanted the main spot in the film but Aoyama barely liked any of them untill a beautiful 24 y/o woman with unrealiatic feautures came in — Aoyama instantly fell for her which he will later regret. The rest is on you, hope you will enjoy this kinda underrated novel. Fact : This novel was the basis for the movie " Audition " directed by Takashi Miike in 1999.

Representaion plays a crucial role in media. Feeling represented helps with shaping a stronger identity.
It is not a secret that Hollywood dominates the global media market and its products have found their way into every household across the globe. Due to the origin of the movies, the most common way of living portrayed there has been the western lifestyle. I can say that even a decade ago it was incredibly rare to see other cultures represented, and even if they were shown, they could have a lot of misconceptions, non-authentic feautures or even harmful stereotypes.
Due to western actors dominating the Hollywood movie industry, people around the world have gotten used to seeing eurocentric facial feautures, while ethnic facial feautures were rarely seen. This in turn led to idealization of "western" feautures. Lack of diverse representation has resulted in many people of color feeling insecure seeing light-skinned actors and actresses portrayed as attractive heroes and heroines.
Lately I have noticed a shift where movies are becoming more inclusive and are not afraid of showcasing different cultures in a respectful and authentic way. For instance, In "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" Mumbattan is a vibrant and colorful depiction of India. Spider-Man India, a.k.a. Pavitr Prabhakar, has inspired a lot of young Indian boys who felt joy seeing their hero portrayed with feautures that they themselves have.
Good representation has the capacity to change lives for many people, make them fall in love with their own identity. In my work I often design Native Siberian characters to celebrate my culture and spread awareness about peoples who are not well known by the general public.

Las niñas bien
Por Briseida Alcalá
Tumblr media

do you like pirates of the caribbean 4? I always see some people from the fandom of potc saying that they don't like it but I love this movie, so if you don't like it can you PLEASE explain to me why most of people of the fandom don't like it?
Okay so I don’t think the movie is like. good, and I had a lot of shit to say about why which will be under the cut but I do want to stress before I start, that there’s a lot to enjoy about ost. The characters carried over from previous films are still recognizable, if we’re to compare to dead men tell no tales. Furthermore, the score absolutely fucking slaps and the mermaids make me feel things. Other than that, people just like different things, so if you think ost is good then that’s totally fine! This is just what I, personally, don’t like about the movie.
So let’s get started.
I think a big part of why ost fails for me is that jack as a main character is something that sounds interesting on paper, but is really hard to pull off in a satisfying way. Like, the first three movies build him up as genuinely super interesting, and so the fourth movie focusing on him should make for a good main character, but it never really goes deeper into him than the previous movies, which leaves him in a sort of limbo where he fills the purpose of main character but only gets his regular side character development.
To illustrate my point, I like to point to his final decision between saving blackbeard or angelica, or taking the water for himself, because it should by all means serve as the culmination of his character arc. The only problem is, it doesn’t work as an ultimatum if it’s between angelica or blackbeard because no one likes blackbeard, and it doesn’t work if it’s between him and angelica either because it’s just the same ultimatum as the third movie. We don’t need to find out that jack has the capacity to prioritize the people he cares about if it’s a life or death situation, because we’ve already established that. Thus, the whole thing comes off a bit hollow, at least to me.
I think the argument one could make against this is that his character arc is less about learning to care, and more about caring for angelica, but that falls flat too, since by the end of the movie the two of them aren’t any closer. Jack still leaves her on an island to possibly starve to death, which feels like a massive step back from saving her life, especially considering he’s been through that exact situation and inflicting it on someone he supposedly loves kinda sets his intended arc back for me. And I think this comes from disney’s unwillingness to change him as a character, since the classic morally ambiguous bad boy jack is very much what made potc such a phenomena, even if he’s by far not the only part of why the films are good.
Basically, it’s a have your cake and eat it situation for jack, where disney get to feauture him even more in the marketing since he’s the focal character, but don’t actually develop him and risk turning people off.
Furthermore, on the subject of characters I think that basically every new side character is an affront to god, just because they have so much wasted potential. On stranger tides could have done so much with the religious themes present in many of the characters, from blackbeard and the priest’s conflicting worldviews in terms of faith, to the priest and angelica having conflicting ideas of the same religion, to the spanish being literal colonizers and destroying parts of the local mystique in the name of faith, to jack not being religious and also super queer-coded, to the whole thing about mermaids being the descendants of evil people who couldn’t go on noah’s ark, there’s just SO MUCH that could be done, and it would give ost a very unique thematic edge. The other three films mainly focus on class, so a deeper dive into the already present religious themes would make ost distinct in more ways than “the sequal nobody likes, but at least isn’t dead men tell no tales”
On that topic, though, I would like to return to what I said in the opening, that it’s in some ways much more of a potc movie. I am of the controversial opinion that dead men tell no tales does do some things right, but what it does not do right is jack, who, no matter how underdeveloped he is, is still himself in ost. I’ll absolutely watch it from time to time, because it can be pretty fun! I just don’t think it holds up to the previous sequels when you get down to analyzing.
(That being said, since you say you like it I would absolutely love to hear why because I’m honestly very curious! I think it’s easy to kind of get stuck in the sentiment that ost is unsalvageble since the fandom seems to have come to a bit of an agreement there. So a different perspective is always welcome, and very healthy!)

Is a lot? lots of descriptions and is basically many years? is an easy ready I think, war and peace is more difficult for me? too many characters and names. But I think is worth it? like it feautures two of my favourite romances ever, and I read it at 19 so is very dear to me, in a way. Right so the les mis tomes we have each one is 800 pages, I checked, dude I have no idea.
Yes man parenthood isn't easy and nobody becomes a mom from one day to the next in a way. Yes it was Maggie Gyllenhaals first time handling a full film and she did a great job, I'm excited if she decides to stay on as a director, I loved it. Me either! even though I saw pictures of him around here, they filmed it last year! after summer I think.
The sags noms are out and I'm gonna base my oscar viewings on those movies, whichever is available on the internet of course ;)
so a bit of marvel knews, moonknight is supposedly coming in march 30, then shehulk in may and msmarvel in july or august :D and you watched eternals? right the voice at the very end is supposedly Blade's and maybe Blade will appear in moonknight.
ooh okay, gotcha!! girl, you keep astounding me with all this knowledge lol i'll just keep coming to you f i have any questions about books/films/shows/etc. some books really just stay in your mind eh? idk those books are like *chefs kiss* ooh 800 pages is still a lot!! like 700 you know you're in for a ride but 800 is a whole other world!
she did an amazing job!! honestly i loved everything about the movie! the direction, the cinematography, the OST, the acting, the casting, locations etc. very well done! he really was a surprise guest then lol!!
ooh, i'm interested to hear your judgement :)

I couldn’t sleep the other night, and so I thought of watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). All I knew about it was the name and the intriguing picture above with Tim Curry looking damn fine on them lips.
I’m actually happy I didn’t know anything about this film because gosh darn it, was it a nice surprise. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and probably never will.
But here I just want to say one thing, and it is this: if my boy Adam Warlock’s in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 and “The Sword of Damocles” song doesn’t play whenever he’s born, then what’s the point of having a Marvel Cinematic Universe anyway?
youtube
Baby boy Rocky here is straight up him, I mean Adam, I mean “Him”, as he was formerly known. Damn it, look at it:
Tumblr media
You got the blonde bowl-cut; you got the tan (although Adam’s gold but close enough like); you got the black eyeliner in some shots; you got the golden shorts; you got the “made to be the perfect man by the power of mad science”, Dr. Frankenstein style.
You also got that sweet sweet newborn angst, where seconds after being born, baby’s already complaining about his life with lyrics such as:
“Oh! Woe is me! My life is a misery/mistery”
and
“I woke up this mornin’ with a start when I fell out of bed; And left from my dream it was a feelin’ of un-nameable dread”
Actually, you know what? In Guardians 3, don’t even recreate the scene or play the song, just have the film suddenly cut to that exact musical number with no explanation. Put a yellow filter over it to make it seem like everything’s gold if you must, but that’s it. You go:
Tumblr media
And then BAM:
Tumblr media
See? Trust me they won’t even notice the scene transition, and you save some money.
Oh and this! These two come in wearing these costumes at one point in the film. I wasn’t sure you could properly pull off that old costume in live-action form, but here they are, proving me wrong (they even have a little lightning bolt and everything):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t know, there’s just something about the idea of Tim Curry’s character, the amazing astounding Dr. Frank-N-Furter, going through his 60′s Fantastic Four mags to get some ideas for his next creation, thinking “yeah, I could totally make this this big man-baby from the comics, no sweat”:
Tumblr media
If you could you probably would too let’s be honest.
But yeah, time to put that ost on a loop for at least a week now, thank you movie (especially that Time Warp song, it’s not gonna let go of me for a good couple of days).
I don’t know why I thought that a double feauture of Mad Max: Fury Road and this would help me go to sleep, because it didn’t. Great fun though.

Wes Andersons use of Literature in his films
I may not be the biggest reader in the world, but I sure do love film. As a fan of Wes Andersons iconic style, one of my favourite aspects in his films has always been his attention to the minutiae details within his movies, from the carefully arranged objects, detailed sets, colour choices, frame set ups and his use of literature. Anderson has based movies on books, think Fantastic Mr. Fox, to having narrators, authors and even many many imaginary novels within the films. (particularly within Moonrise kingdom and The Royal Tenenbaums) So this drew me to explore this further.
Tumblr media
The books themselves seem to act as story driven devices within the films, from characters who are authors, documentarians, playwrights, doctors thesis’ to famous tennis players features in magazines. They are used to represent the memory of a place, time and people themselves.
“In Anderson’s world, physical books offer solace, and more importantly, keep a record of people and places past.” - Early Bird Books
His style often has a retro feel to it, and this echoes in the designs of the book covers within the films. Lets take a look at the Moonrise Kingdom children’s novels. At first viewing, I assumed these to be real novels, but they are all imaginary titles created for the film that Suzy has stolen. They look like they belong in their setting (60′s) with their muted colour palettes and heavy illustrative style. They remind the viewer of childhood, how it is to be a kid, have imagination and that feeling of lugging around heavy library books. The books themselves have rather comical titles such as "Shelly and the Secret Universe" and "The Girl from Jupiter"
Tumblr media
There is even a trailer or I guess a short film for Moonrise Kingdom that focussed solely on these books to set the tone for the movie and introduce some of the characters. It feautures Suzy who narrates a paragraph from each novel over some lovely animation. Really allowing these designs to shine.
youtube
What also fascinates me is that Wes Anderson’s use of objects and in this case, books, act as great memories themselves of the films. You can find movie posters, fan art and merchandise that focus on the imaginary novels and objects within the films.
