“you know why people pair up into couples? because being a human is fucking terrifying. but it's a hell of a lot easier if you're not doing it by yourself”

I was talking to someone about Loveless the other day and they were going on about how 'sad it was' and whilst I get it's not a happy book etc, it's not really supposed to be sad in that way. It's supposed to be a book about accepting who you are, and learning that's its okay to be who you are, and aro ace people shouldn't be excluded from that
What is sad is that I forget how many people still view aro and/or ace people + anyone on the spectrum as 'broken' or as 'missing something' or 'lonely' or 'depressed'. Like we are NOT broken for god sake and my depression is definitely not from being ace. I'm not saying it's easy but I hate how we are often stereotyped

Pip, throwing her head into Rooney's lap: Tell me I'm pretty!
Rooney, lovingly stroking her hair: You're pretty fucking annoying, that's what you are.

When I saw this line while reading Loveless, I was so happy bcz Universe City is mentioned here.
I also listen to Universe City podcast when I feel lonely.

I think what I love most about Alice’s books is that, the conflicts are more real, like, there isn’t necessarily anyone that’s fully ‘in the wrong’ just human beings making mistakes and hurting people they love, and yeah, some characters are in fact evil (you all know who I’m talking about) but that’s also part of the human experience, sometimes being selfish is just part of who we are (also I think not depending solely on miscommunication just shows how great of a writer they are)

I just finished reading LOVELESS and I genuinely enjoyed it. In true Osemanverse nature, the characters were yet again a wonderful group of people. Alice has this ability to create the ultimate comfort characters, I just want to give all of them a hug.
This book did make me feel lonely though. I don’t have any friends and it kills me. Everytime I read a book like this I feel part of something, then as soon as it’s over reality hits again. I just want a friendship, is one friend too much to ask for? Nevermind a relationship (even though I want one), can I just have someone to laugh with and talk to? Even though these characters go through trials everyone always has friends to lean on. That’s where I feel isolated, no representation in literature of the genuine lonely people who have no one aside from their family. So yeah, Loveless made me feel loveless, lol.
That being said, if anyone ever wants to talk about their love of Osemanverse with me, my messages are always open. 🥺🫶🏻
