I want an episode of Game Changer with Emily Axford, Brennan Lee Mulligan and Lou Wilson where they are given props of weapons and armor (made out of foam and paper mache) along with random character sheets and moved to a larger space so they have to roleplay. They are given points based off their acting skills and other members of D20 are the villains they have to fight.

The fun Izzy Roland would have when Brennan sees her, cackling as she carries a foam mace to deck him with while Aabria Iyengar throws shredded confetti paper as spells. It needs to be as perfectly "teenage LARPing" as possible for the vibes.

A cursed sword pulled from a wounded god.

This was a fun project, it was more of a restoration/conversion than a full build. It was originally an old style boffer but the tape was breaking and we wanted to save the amazing pommel. So I removed the old blade using my bandsaw then built a new style blade for it.

Me and Josefine took some pictures of our kits in Visby this weekend. This is some of my oldest pieces, but with regular boots as my handsewn got wet and were drying. The black underdress and the grey apron has been with me since I started sewing. Although many things can be said about the mistakes I made and the *cough* let's say "fantasy inspired take", it's some of my most comfortable pieces, and I'll probably keep them till they fall apart.

Another year, another amazing Tolkientage!! Expect a LOT of pictures to come (also maybe a YouTube video 🤫 and some tiktoks probably). Honestly, the Tolkientage are hands down my favourite con. The people are just SO SO lovely and it is incredibly beautiful. It is all run by a non-profit, so tickets are affordable and the people building the sets and doing the battles and cosplays are all such incredible artists!

My newest obsession are SOV sword & sorcery and fantasy films that look like they were made by either LARPers on their downtime or Ren Faire actors on the off season or a mix of both. Cheap costumes and random forest locations are a must.

And that's a lie, I had a brief obsession with this last year but a new movie re-ignited it...

I recently discovered The Song of the Sword (1986), a film made by Abraxas Productions in Kansas, which was crewed by locals. I don't believe it has ever seen distribution since it has no IMDB page and absolutely no information on the internet about it. It was uploaded to Archive.org by Demolition Kitchen Video, who appear to be a Kansas based preservation group.

And it's strange. I never set out to find and catalog all these SOV fantasy films, but here I am.

It started when I was looking up the director of Phobe, The Xenophobic Experiments (1995), Erica Benedikty, and saw she also directed a SOV fantasy film called Kobblestone, the Journey Begins (1995).

Watching that led me to find this Letterboxd list by user waxmask. That list led me to Way Bad Stone (1991) and an obsession had begun.

A very poetic scene I saw while LARPing at Battle for Vilegis (Italy)

I didn’t expect to find so much fun and genuine emotion and actual magic in LARP. I mean, I knew I would like it, but I never expected to LOVE it this much. Fighting a battle in pitch black, except for the fires of a ritual circle, surrounded by your comrades risking their life and struggling with their every breath, and then celebrating with cold beers and the bard singing of your family’s eroic acts and silly shenanigans while everybody cheers, and greet the dawn without even noticing how time fled… it has been one of the best experiences of my entire life.

I might risk getting told something unintentionally homophobic at a fantasy larp,

but at least I can tell stories about my own fucking marginalization without being called "problematic."

This is hyperbole, most fantasy LARPs are actually quite progressive.

They just don't tend to accompany their DEI policies with "Oh, and you can't tell any meaningful stories about marginalization here because this is a Safe Space™!"

The lack of that addendum scares the shit out of allies. Because what if a Nazi goes to their game and does something on the line but not over the threshold? What if a bad actor skirts the rules but never breaks them?

Okay, have a fucking spine and ban them anyways.
