Heroic Happy!
Here’s some fanart of Happy from his special spin-off, Happy’s Heroic Adventure! If you haven’t read it yet, I highly suggest it— especially if you're a fan of this fish-loving cat.
Yo— this is such an improvement from the first time I drew Happy, and it's only been a little over a year! Makes me wonder how much more I'd improve if I was ever able to stop procrastinating or hyperfixating on other things... eh, that probably won't happen though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
March 31st - Nightcrawler
The Mutant hero and X-Man known as Nightcrawler is Kurt Wagner, the son of the Mutants Mystique (Raven Darkhölme) and Azazel of The Neyaphem.  Kurt was born with his X-gene already activated.  He was bestowed a greatly enhanced agility, a highly flexible physiology and bone structure; with three fingered hands and feet that can adhere to surfaces and a long, prehensile tail.  Furthermore his skin is lined with a fine, blue fur along with glowing eyes, sharpened teeth and pointed ears.
As an infant, Kurt was abandoned by his parents in the Bavarian Alps ending up in the care of a kindly Romani mystic named Margali Szardos.  Szardos raised Kurt as her own and, despite his somewhat devilish appearance, he went on to have a happy childhood, performing as a trapeze artist with a traveling carnival.  In his later adolescence, Kurt discovered that along with his other Mutant abilities he also had the power to teleport over short distances.  He does this by creating portal rifts through a limbo-like dimension that instantly transport him from one point in space to another.  Kurt has honed this ability over the course of his life, enhancing the distances and precision of his teleportation.
Following a conflict with his adoptive brother, Kurt found himself chased by an angry mob in a small German village.  The mob were convinced he was a demonic creature and they may have harmed Kurt had it not been for the timely intervention of the Mutant telepath, Charles Xavier.
Kurt accepted Xavier’s offer to join his team of Mutant heroes, The X-Men and chose the alias of ‘Nightcrawler.’  He would go on to have countless adventures as a member of the Uncanny X-Men.  Over this time Kurt developed close friendships with his teammates, especially Wolverine and Colossus.  Later, Kurt left the X-Men along with Kitty Pryde and Rachel Summers to form the splinter team known as Excalibur.  His adventures with this new team were much more magical in nature, yet had the effect of leaving Kurt even more devout in his faith in Catholicism.  He even considered leaving super heroics aside to pursue becoming a priest.
Kurt ultimately returned to The X-Men and later perished, sacrificing himself to save Hope Summers from the villainous Bastion.  It turned out that he had not died in the traditional sense but instead was relocated to a limbo dimension that resembled a heavenly realm.  This dimension was invaded by Kurt’s father, Azazel, and the X-Men ended up assisting him, transported to the realm by the fairy-like creatures known as The Bamfs.  After Azazel was defeated, Kurt decided to return with his friends to the mortal plain.  He would go on to have still more adventures alongside the X-Men.  More recently, Kurt became a member of The Quiet Council, governing the affairs of the Mutant nation of Krakoa.
Nightcrawler has featured in several of the Fox Films X-Men movies, portrayed by actors Alan Cumming and Kodi Smit-McPhee.  The hero first appeared in Giant Sized X-Men #1 (1975).

MORE SOULMATE AU HEADCANONS
Someone called the first set cute and I am unbelievably determined to make their goddamn day/night now, also, just realized you could get around the talking barrier with your soulmate if you direct your speaking at yourself, though I imagine that would be quite hard without a lot of focus or practice, so I’m implementing that in this set, hope you enjoy!!
WARNING: For Midoriya Izuku - Mentions of past fish death; For Umino Iruka - Mentions of his parents passing; and For Erza Scarlet - Death, the Tenrou island incident, signs of depression and loss of a loved one [It turns happy though]
SOULMATE AU HEADCANONS FOR: Izuku Midoriya, Iruka Umino, Erza Scarlet
Izuku Midoriya
Welcome to your own personal hero encyclopedia
Literally your best friend when it comes to quizzes and homework
If you so much as mutter to yourself a question
He is mumbling to himself the answer and all the steps to solve it
Brain = Autopilot
He doesn’t even consider that you might have been rhetorical
Or that you might be taking a quiz
Soulmate asked a question and he’d rather die than not mutter the answer to himself under his breath so his soulmate can hear
He’s your worst enemy sometimes too though
Trying to sleep? Nah, listen to him fanboy over a hero documentary instead
Trying to have a little you time? Funny joke, you’re learning about All Might now
You now know the weirdest facts about heroes
And events that most teachers don’t know about
May I suggest a heroics history teaching job?
Unfortunately, you also have to listen to his crying
I don’t mean it in a bad way
But you have no way to comfort him
Literally all you want to do is give him a hug and comfort him
But all you can do is say comforting words to yourself
Hoping he’ll hear them over his broken, heart wrenching sobs
But don’t worry, he does, he hears everything you say to yourself
He has a notebook dedicated to you and o n l y you
He nearly ripped Bakugo’s head off when the blonde accidentally burnt it’s pages when they were younger
Yeah, fun times [Bakugo double checked that it was the h e r o notebook and not the s o u l m a t e notebook when he burnt it in middle school, never again would he risk hearing his last name be spit venomously from the green haired males mouth]
He writes down anything he deems memorable [AKA nearly everything] that you say
He notes things you have difficulty towards academically and makes sure to break it down and read the now less complex version aloud in hopes he’s helped you
He has, he’s probably the main reason you’re in the top 5 academically
But also he loves hearing your meaningless rambles
You have scared him a few times
“Wait, is he dead? Oh no! Please don’t tell me he’s dead!”
w h a t
“I don’t think I can handle mom crying over another fish.”
Oh, just a fish, thank All Might, he nearly went into cardiac arrest
They brighten his day, and he can’t wait to meet you and tell you just how thankful he is that you’re his soulmate
Just like you can’t wait to hit him upside the head for all the sleepless nights he’s caused with his fanboy behavior
Okay, but when you do meet, you immediately ask for Bakugo
You give zero fucks about possibly being expelled/sent to prison
Hell hath no fury like you who had to listen to their soulmates broken cries over the blondes treatment for years
And Izuku can only hold you back for so long
He definitely wants to see your quirk in action when you meet
And when demonstrating he’s mumbling all the uses and possible ideas
While also complimenting you and how amazing you are
He doesn’t even notice he’s doing it
If you do it back, he WILL blue screen
Midoriya Izuku.exe has stopped working
He literally freezes on the spot
Iruka Umino
Oh do we love our dear teacher
Maybe a little too much
But we don’t talk about that
IRUKA IS THE TYPE TO MUTTER A SWEET SOFT “Good morning my soulmate” TO HIMSELF EVERY DAY AS HE WAKES UP SO YOU CAN HEAR IT AND YOU CAN’T CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE
He will also say other things, like “I made pancakes for breakfast, I wish you were here to enjoy them”
And call you sweet pet names like “Dear” “Darling” “Honey” etc. and when he’s feeling especially corny “Snookums” or something really out there when he feels like you need a good laugh like “Cookie Cutter”
No, I'm serious, if he thinks you’re sad, he w i l l say “Hey there, how’s my little cookie cutter?” to himself in a half joking tone in hopes of brightening your day
You can pry this headcanon from my cold, dead hands
He loves it if you mutter responses to yourself for him to hear in return
His heart will melt the moment he hears you say “Good morning” back, or if you mention wanting to cook for him
He also loves it if you give lesson plan advice to him
Like, he’ll be muttering about the best way to teach his class how to throw shuriken and your voice will pop up in his head with friendly advice
Makes him wonder if you’re a teacher too, or if you’re planning to become one
Secretly hopes you’re planning to become a teaching aid, because A) Work and soulmate at the same time? Yes please, and B) Kami knows he needs help with his rowdy class
If you are, he’s sure to be over the moon when he finds out
In his younger days, before teaching, he definitely went on missions and looked for you when he could
Like, yes, the mission is important, but finding the owner to the beautiful voice in his head is ALSO important
He’d usually finish the mission and stay an extra one or two days looking for you
It didn’t really cross his mind till later that you could be in the Leaf Village, since he figured he would have already found you if he did
Till he saw people older than him who grew up in the village only just finding out they were soulmates
He went on less out of village missions after that
Till eventually he decided to become a teacher
When I tell you this man melts when you talk
I mean he MELTS
He loves your voice so much
It helped him through his parents deaths
Helped him when he felt at his lowest points
You’ve done so much for him, and he’s so thankful, he’s fallen so deeply in love with you and you haven’t properly met yet!
He still wants to marry you on the spot though
It’s not a strange sight to see him browsing rings
Or thinking of how he’d propose
You’ll never let him know that he’s unconsciously spoken out loud about it a few times
Not until you meet, then you’ll mention it
And never let him live it down
“You know, I’ve heard you say you wanted to marry me on the spot, is that still on the menu or…?”
Yeah, when you first meet each other, that’s the first thing that pops out of your mouth
And it has his face burning red
He’s stumbling through his words, trying to convey that yes, he would like to marry you, but he needs your ring size first to go buy the ring
Trust me, this man has made enough trips to know what ring, he just needs the size
Then he’ll be down on one knee quicker that Shisui’s Shunshin no Jutsu
The fact that you seem okay with it also seals the deal for him
He’s so ecstatic when you meet each other
He feels like he could take on Madara one v one and win
He’s so unbelievably happy
Like he’s convincing you to take a photo so he can frame it on his desk and always remember happy
He’s so cute and blushy about it too
Rambles about never wanting to forget the best day of his life so far
“So far?” “Well, yeah, I imagine marrying you will take the spot soon”
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS BOY WILL MAKE YOUR HEART SWOON!!!
He’s so giddy about introducing you to his class too
Especially Naruto
[Mostly Naruto]
He’s showing you off and preening at the congratulations his class gives
And later on introducing you to Naruto personally
As much as he loves his class, he adores Naruto, and really hopes you both get along well
And you do
And it was the worst mistake of Iruka's life
[or best as both you and Naruto often correct him]
Honestly you probably convinced him to at least bring up the possibility of Adoption to Naruto
Which has Naruto howling in excitement and agreeableness
The boy looks up to him and they both have such a father/son dynamic, let me have this dammit
[Also, being able to get Naruto to be the ring bearer/flower boy? P r i c e l e s s]
He loves his family, so very much
And is so thankful that you convinced him to adopt Naruto
The man has been debating on if Naruto would want to be his son or not for ages, you can NOT tell me otherwise
You also can’t tell me Naruto wouldn’t jump at the chance to have Iruka as his father
Erza Scarlet
She’s so eager to find you
She’s spent so long perfecting the art of speaking to you despite the barrier
And she’s always so responsive to you
Always talking about the adventures she's had
What she wants to do with you when you find each other
And she’s always so happy when you do the same
She’s always been responsive with you, even though the beginning was a bit rough with communication
So when she suddenly goes radio silent, it scares you, it hurts when you come to the realization that she’s dead
She can hear you, even in her deep sleep on Tenrou Island
And it’s heartbreaking
Your cries
The endless broken sobs
“I’m so sorry I never got to meet you” No, I’m still here!
“Hey soulmate wha- oh, right, you’re..” I’m not dead! I promise I’ll be there soon!
To say the least, it’s a long 7 years
And you never did get over your soulmates tragic death
Though you did find out who she might have been
Hurts more knowing how she passed on though
She always spoke of her guild, Fairy Tail, and you had been saving up enough jewels to go there, in hopes of finding her
You know she must have been on Tenrou when it fell
And by deductive evidence, it must have been the S class wizard
Erza Scarlet, you’re soulmate
Dead, soulmate
You joined not long after the news had spread
Figured it might help with the ache
It didn’t
But you grew to love the guild anyways
They welcomed you as family
Because to them, you already were
Erza spoke so highly of you
Always talking about how amazing her soulmate was, and everything she wanted to do with them when they met
And it was because of that you were able to deduce that she is your soulmate
Was, your soulmate
It wasn’t an odd sight to see you crying when the Tenrou group was brought up
Or after a particular rough beating from the Twilight Ogre guild
They watched you slowly fall apart when you tried speaking to her
Helped put you back together when you remembered she wasn’t on the other side
And eventually you began healing
Never getting over her or forgetting her
You could never forget her
And broke down just thinking about trying to find another
You took to talking to her in hopes she could still hear you in the afterlife
Talk about your day
How the guild is doing
If there was a particularly rough beating from the other guild
It hurt, much worse than when you forgot that she wasn’t there
But you carried on, believing that if she could hear you, she’d want to know
She adores that about you, your will to carry on, even though it hurts
And she’s sure to leave nothing but corpses in Twilight Ogre for all the years of torment
When Blue Pegasus found remains of the Island, no one stopped you from boarding the ship
They knew you needed this, more than the rest of them
You needed to know if she was really gone or not
And when you caught sight of scarlet red hair
You wept
She’s here
She’s alive
She turned the moment she heard your voice weekly call for her
To say your first meeting was filled with tears would be an understatement
You were attached by the hip from that point on
Not that either of you were complaining
Erza was especially ecstatic to have you by her side finally
After all, she had 7 years to make up for
And you can show her where Twilight Ogre is
The Master and Mira didn’t question why she was especially rough with a select few members
I Hope you enjoyed reading this set of Soulmate AU HC’s! If you would like to see any specific characters, don’t be afraid to leave a comment or submit an ask! If it’s a character I’m not familiar with, I’ll do my best to learn about them!!
P.S. I nearly killed Reader-chan off in Erza’s (:

Prime Pretty Cure is my current main series/obsession. It has light/dark, and elemental thematic, and is about four evil demi-goddesses who are reincarnated into heroic Cures. A lot of reincarnation fun lol.  The characters include; Radiant Lumiere / Ray. White/Pink/Rainbow Light Extra Hero. Main-character(?), and a being of pure light. Was basically a princess and now has to deal with living on a new planet, and discovering a lot of new emotions, like friendship lol. They also have to deal with the fact that they are not as Special and Perfect as they think they are.  Cure Splash / Morgan. Blue/Teal Water Cure. Salty bitch who loves dancing. Kinda tsundere about friendship, and likes being alone. Cure Terra / Beryl. Green/Brown Earth Cure. Upbeat and cheerful mood-maker. Wild-child and loves being in nature, as well making lucky stars.  Cure Ember / Hanan. Red/Orange Fire Cure. Generally level-headed nerd, who struggles with her internal anger issues. Despite not being the first, she takes up the leader-role among the group, by virtue of having probably the most braincells,,, aka 2. Cure Gale / Connie. Purple/Yellow Wind Cure. Started out being in the villain’s grasp, some angst, and was saved early on. Very shy and soft, and loves drawing. Struggles with big anxiety. Their mascot is Brightly Vivid Colorful Arch Von Everglow, a very extravagant peacock with rainbow tail-feathers, who basically becomes Ray’s dad. He’s a rainbow dad! It also has a colorful cast of villains, who are a found family and assholes LOL Wiki Page  Tag here Story her

Oyasumi Pretty Cure Z is one of my more prominent series with a sleep/dream/skies thematic. zzzzzz. It hasn’t been written yet, but will likely get its turn when Prime finishes after 439685 years LOL. In this, people’s dreams get corrupted and harvested to summon a nightmare-ish monster, and two young girls and a sheep and later a pillow have to put a stop to that! The characters include; Cure Luna / Nemu Yozora. Gray/Pink Moon Cure. Adventurous and energetic 13 year old, but is a good kid and loves her grandma. Cure Stella / Mayumi ‘Mayu’ Hoshizawa. Yellow Star Cure. Mature and big-sister type, and looks after her fellow cures, but tends to fall in love SUPER easily and becomes a stuttering mess.  Cure Cloud / Sayo. Blue Cloud Cure. Sheep fairy, and also ‘Veteran’ Cure, who has only trained and now having to actually fight as in ... danger... has a lot of trouble. Kinda meek, but is always trying to act more brave than she is.  Good Knight / Makura. Purple Dream/Night Extra Hero. Is a pillow-like mascot. Late Addition, who was the fairy partner to the legendary ancient Cure, and joins the group as a knight-like extra hero. Has no social skills, but a strong sense of justice, and is protective, and quickly becomes an awkward big brother to the Cures. They’re up against a mysterious trio (later quartet) of evil Cures, the Dreamcatcher Pretty Cure, each having a different origin and powers.  Wiki page here Tag here
Tumblr media
Happy Haunt Pretty Cure is my monster/halloween themed series. It’s about a normal human who finds herself in a world of monsters, and basically becomes a central player in a fight between the world’s ancient dark energy and the Pretty Cure.  Characters include; Kaede Akizuki. Main Character, and not a Cure, despite having some sort powers. She’s really dumb, and fearlessly stupid, and is beyond excited to be stuck in a monster world. It’s “Awesome!” Cure Inferno / Iggy. Red Demon Cure. Laid-back and pretty lazy, always smiling, smirking, or grinning but can be quite nihilistic. Loves spicy donuts. Cure Vitalis / Cattleya. Blue Zombie Cure. Lively and cheerful, but quite naive and childlike. Is good at chores, and cooking, and has a sister-like bond with Iggy. Is learning how to read!! Good luck! Cure Skelet / Donna. Green Skeleton Cure. A bartender at the local pub, and a confident and sometimes a bit self-centered skeleton woman. Very protective of others, and is good at giving peptalks. Wants everyone to be as confident in themselves as she is. Cure Arachne / Frida. Purple Spider Cure. Seems somewhat quiet and timid, but can be quite pushy and has no sense of personal space. Is an amateur novelist and will do anything for ‘inspiration‘. Cure Wolf / Verena ‘Rena’. Yellow Wolf Cure. A ‘tamed‘ werewolf with a rough past, and has become very submissive and timid, despite having a lot of strength. Has a kind heart and loOOOOVESS being pet pat pot, as well belly rubs. As a Cure she becomes very wild and is allowed to freely let herself loose.  Wiki Page here Tag here

She fell in love with him one night in September.
O, knights in shining armor. Handsome princes with charming smiles, riding white horses skillfully. Smart guys with polite chuckles and nerdy glasses.
Oh, believe her, she had dreamt of countless of guys in her sleep. Who was she to blame? Who wouldn’t want princes and knights? That was what a 7 years old Lucy had hoped. Starry eyes reading old books with bad dragons and heroic princes; her imagination often ran wild. This was what she needed—this was her goal in the future to achieve eternal happiness.
Once, she longingly stared at the moon and stars at night to question her future lover. She whispered at the wind, fully knowing that he also stared at the same sky somewhere.
Once, she gazed at a serene pond in the forest when she was on a mission with her idiotic pink haired best friend. It was beautiful. It reflected the moon, some trees, and some fireflies floating above the calm water. Her small fingers dipped their ways into the pond, as if trying to poke the full moon. Lucy blinked when she realized Natsu’s reflection was also on the pond. Their eyes met, brown and olive green—both were sleepy. They knew that, he knew that, yet he still sat beside her. He knew she was unable to sleep due to her habit to think at midnight.
He opened his mouth to ask what’s on her mind, but she beat him to it. She asked, more like wondered, what if one day they fell in love with another person and couldn’t hang out together anymore. He remained silent with an unreadable expression.
As they went to sleep, she swore before she fully lost her consciousness, she’d heard him say, what if they fell in love with each other instead?
Other nights, she woke up at three in the morning and couldn’t sleep afterward. She blinked at her apartment’s ceiling, rolling her eyes slightly as soon as she heard a light snore. Her best friend had sneaked beside her again, but unlike the past two years, she couldn’t help but to love that habit. He was.. warm and inviting. The best part was sometimes he didn’t mind if she cuddled against him.
He was.. he was always like that, wasn’t he?
She whispered his name, her eyes drowning the sight of a sleeping Natsu in front of her. Ogling your own best friend was wrong, but she didn’t give a damn. Despite her beating heart, she allowed her curious fingers to trace his jaw. The scar on his right cheek had been healed thanks to Wendy, though if you squinted your eyes it didn’t fully vanish. It was their reminder of the Alvarez war; where many lives were taken and when many hearts got broken.
He exhaled in his sleep and he had never looked so peaceful. Lucy moved her fingers to brush his bangs. Natsu was handsome, she had to admit. The 17 years old Lucy would’ve denied it. She’d also say that she was NOT in love with Natsu, but somehow that sounded so wrong now. Yeah, she liked princes and knights. She liked smart nerds who understood her passion for books. She liked.. no, she loved..
She loved Natsu Dragneel.
She loved what?
Her eyes widened at her thought, wondering why she felt so relieved and at the same time she felt scared.
H-how..? When did she..? Why did she think she loved him? Though, that moment, her heart betrayed her mind.
Yes, he was no prince nor a knight, but he was her saviour. He’d brought her home, Fairy Tail. He was her home. He’d saved her countless of times; even so far to risk his own life. He was stronger than her, yet he had never doubted her abilities even when she couldn’t believe herself.
Yes, he was no nerd—he didn’t really like to read or write, but he appreciated her passion anyway. He admitted that he loved her books, Adventure of Iris, and Lucy was surprised that he wanted to read more of her works. In fact, he appreciated her more than anyone as a person, as Lucy of Fairy Tail.
Charming smiles? Polite chuckles? Nerdy glasses? She didn’t need those. She needed his rambunctious laughs and pranks. She needed his heart warming fanged grins. She preferred his scaly scarf than nerdy glasses.
He was perfect in his own imperfect ways, and she loved him for that.
Warm rough hand suddenly enveloped her cold one, signaling that the owner of said hand had woken up. Natsu suddenly got panicked when he saw her crying. He didn’t push her to talk, instead he immediately embraced her, calming her with his warmth.
She pulled away for a second, resting her forehead against his. They gazed at each other like one of those cliche romance novels before the Celestial Mage whispered the sacred three words. Natsu chuckled, sending shivers down her spine. He said that he knew, and he’d been waiting for her to say it. Call him a jerk, but that wasn’t his fault.
It was Lucy’s—she was so dense with her own feelings after all these times. She was a jerk. She had made him wait for her for years.
At least, she wouldn’t make their kiss to be postponed until next year. So obviously, she kissed him, he kissed her back—and this was the eternal happiness she’d been searching since she was 7.
They parted breathelessly, but the first thing that came to her mind was to glance at the calendar. September, huh? She might as well marked her calendar that she (realized) she fell in love with the least expected person to fall in love with, one night in September.
Not bad.

Manga the Week of 8/19/20
SEAN: The Yen Press juggernaut is back.
Let’s start with Yen. They have a couple manga debuts. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is the manga version of the popular light novel. This arc is a done-in-1 omnibus.
I Love You So Much I Hate You (Nikurashii Hodo Aishiteru) is an office romance yuri about two professional working women with a rivalry… or is it?
MICHELLE: I hope this is something kind of complicated, but I guess we shall see.
ASH: I do like that we’re starting to see more yuri with adult characters.
MELINDA: Yes, I do too.
SEAN: I Don’t Know How to Give Birth! (Shussan no Shikata ga Wakaranai!) is a comedic essay manga about the author struggling with her first-time pregnancy. It looks fun.
ASH: I’m super-curious about this one.
ANNA: I am too!
SEAN: Also from Yen this week: Teasing Master Takagi-san 9; Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization 6 (the final volume); Spirits and Cat Ears 9; So I’m a Spider, So What? 8 (manga version); an omnibus version of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica manga; Phantom Tales of the Night 5; Overlord: The Undead King-Oh! 4; Magia Record 2; Kakegurui 12; Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon: Sword Oratoria 12 (manga version); Hinowa Ga CRUSH! 4; Black Butler 29; As Miss Beelzebub Likes 10; Aoharu x Machinegun 18 (the final volume); and Angels of Death 10.
ASH: You weren’t kidding about the return of the juggernaut! And this is just the manga. Out of these, Phantom Tales of the Night is what has most of my attention.
SEAN: As for Yen On, it also has some debuts. Interspecies Reviewers should already be familiar from the manga and anime: this is a light novel version.
The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy (Seiken Gakuin no Maken Tsukai)… yup, another demon lord in a magical academy.
MICHELLE: How many does that make now? At least three.
SEAN: Also: Sword Art Online 20, Rascal Does Not Dream of Petite Devil Kouhai, Final Fantasy I*II*III: Memory of Heroes, Do You Love Your Mom (and Her Two-Hit, Multi-Target Attacks?) 6, The Dirty Way to Destroy the Goddess’ Heroes 4, Bottom-Tier Tomozaki-kun 4, and 86 ~Eighty-Six~ 5.
From Viz: Venus in the Blind Spot is a best of collection from Junji Ito, and also has the exact same meter as “Mirror in the Bathroom” by The English Beat.
MICHELLE: My brain automatically went to “Heroes in a Half-Shell.” Which is strange, considering I never watched that show.
ASH: Hahaha! Whatever the meter, I’m always glad for more Ito in English.
ANNA: Always a good thing.
MELINDA: I’m on board for this!
SEAN: Also from Viz: Urusei Yatsura 7, Ooku: The Inner Chambers 17, Golden Kamuy 17, and Blue Flag 3.
MICHELLE: Hooray for more Ooku, but after the cliffhanger at the end of volume two, it’s Blue Flag I am desperate for.
ASH: Oh! This is a good week for Viz. And a bad week for my wallet; I’m reading most of these.
ANNA: Yes, super anxious to read the next volume of Blue Flag.
MELINDA: Ooku! And okay, I’m behind on Blue Flag, but I definitely want to know what all the fuss is about.
SEAN: Vertical has the 3rd Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro.
Udon has a 3rd Rose of Versailles omnibus, meaning I’m already behind.
MICHELLE: I only just got volume two last Friday!
ASH: I got the second volume on Saturday, but go ahead and bring on the third!
ANNA: Me too!!!
MELINDA: Help!
SEAN: Tokyopop has a 2nd volume of The Fox and Little Tanuki.
Sol Press has the 3rd Redefining the Meta at VRMMO Academy novel.
Seven Seas debuts a spinoff. The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash & Faerie Case Files (Mahou Tsukai no Yome Shihen.75 – Inazuma Jack to Yousei Jiken), which should be a lot of fun for fans of the main series.
MICHELLE: Huh! I’ll have to check this out.
ASH: I’m a fan of The Ancient Magus’ Bride and I’m a fan of the writer Yu Godai, so I’m doubly-excited for this release.
SEAN: Also from Seven Seas: Toradora! 9 (manga version), Skeleton Knight in Another World 5 (print), Reincarnated As a Sword 3 (manga version), Plus-Sized Elf 5, How to Train Your Devil 3, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord 8 (manga version), Haganai: I Don’t Have Many Friends 18 (print), and Bloom Into You 8.
MICHELLE: I believe that’s the final volume of Bloom Into You, as well. I need to get caught up.
SEAN: No debuts from Kodansha. But we get, in print, Sweat and Soap 3, Saiyuki 2, O Maidens in Your Savage Season 7 and 8, Love and Lies 9, Gleipnir 7, and the 5th Cardcaptor Sakura Collector’s Edition.
ASH: I’m a little behind, but O Maidens in Your Savage Season is so good.
SEAN: Digitally we get That Blue Summer 8 (final volume), Space Brothers 37, Shojo FIGHT! 12, Orient 5, Mikami-sensei’s Way of Love 8 (final volume), Living-Room Matsunaga-san 8, Kakushigoto 6, GE: Good Ending 8, Fairy Tail: Happy’s Heroic Adventure 5, Dolly Kill Kill 5, and Cells NOT at Work 3.
MICHELLE: I have been enjoying That Blue Summer. Hard to believe it’ll be over so quickly!
SEAN: J-Novel Club has one debut, but it’s a biggie: Slayers!. The classic fantasy light novel has been rescued and is coming out with a new translation. The first volume is out next week.
Also out from J-NC: Wild Times with a Fake Fake Princess 2 and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom 12.
Ghost Ship gives us To-Love-Ru Darkness 16, Saki the Succubus Hungers Tonight 3, and Parallel Paradise 2.
Lastly, Dark Horse has the 2nd volume of Dangan Ronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.
Mo’ volumes, mo’ problems. What’s weighing you down?

You Are My Cup Of Tea (Chip) 12″ x 12″ Metallic Acrylic on Canvas To purchase Artwork, please visit BSSart.com/ordering LINK Chip, the teacup from Disneys Beauty and the Beast was used for this version of the Teacup series.  Most of the image is metallic, reflective paint, but there is alot of matte colors to offset as well. All black is flat to define the image at all angles.
Chip Potts is a supporting character who was featured in Disney's 1991 animated film, Beauty and the Beast. He is the son of Mrs. Potts. As a human, Chip is a young boy who works with his mother in the castle kitchens. Like the other inhabitants of the castle, Chip was cursed by the Enchantress. When his mother was turned into a teapot, Chip was likewise turned into a teacup. At the end of the film, once Belle and the Beast fell in love, Chip was magically restored to his human form
Chip is adventurous and constantly curious about the world around him. Chip is a cheerful and active young boy and (like his mother and friends) is shown to have a great fear of the Beast's temper. He is also shown to be very brave and heroic shown in the first film, where he saved Belle and her father Maurice in order for them to rescue Beast from Gaston and the angry mob. He loves Belle very much and views her as his big sister and best friend. As is typical of curious boys his age, he apparently has an overactive imagination; when he comes rushing in to inform his mother that there is a girl (Belle) in the castle, she scolds him for making up such tall tales. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); 15 facts about Beauty and the Beast
1. WALT DISNEY CONSIDERED REMAKING THE FAIRY TALE AS FAR BACK AS THE 1930S.Walt Disney liked to take his time mulling things over, and while he was pondering Beauty and the Beast, a live-action version of the movie was released by French filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Perhaps not wanting to release an animated version of a movie that had just been released, Disney tabled the idea
.2. A NON-MUSICAL VERSION WAS COMMISSIONED IN THE LATE
1980S.In the late '80s, Disney hired British animator Roger Purdum to direct a non-musical version of Beauty and the Beast, with Linda Woolverton writing the script. But the company wasn't happy with the result of 10 weeks of storyboarding (which you can see here)—the story was too dark and depressing."In the middle of our process, The Little Mermaid premiered, and that changed everything," Woolverton told the Los Angeles Times. "[T]he concept of the musical, the Broadway musical brought to animation by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. So I was flown to Disney in Florida to meet with Howard. Howard and I just clicked. ... In a hotel room in Fishkill, New York, Howard and I pretty much conjured up this version of Beauty and the Beast. Howard and I never clashed. I was his student. He taught me everything I know about musicals."
3. JACKIE CHAN CONTRIBUTED TO AN INTERNATIONAL VERSION.Jackie Chan dubbed the Beast’s voice for the Chinese translation of the movie—including the singing. Here he is performing the title track in Mandarin with Sarah Chen:
4. "HUMAN AGAIN" WAS CUT FROM THE ORIGINAL MOVIE.
The song “Human Again” was cut from the original movie, in part because it added 11 minutes to the film, and partially because it created a problem with the passage of time. "[W]e kept asking, 'Well what? Is Maurice wondering around in the woods all this time? Is Gaston just sitting around in a tavern drinking beer after beer growing a long white beard?,'" co-director Kirk Wise said. "We couldn't quite figure out what to do with the other characters during this time that Belle's at the castle and keep the motor of the story running." In recent years, the whole sequence has been included on DVD and Blu-ray extras. In case you don’t have either of those sitting around your house, check out part of it here:
5. THREE OF ITS TUNES EARNED "BEST ORIGINAL SONG" OSCAR NOMINATIONS.
Many people remember that the title song from Beauty and the Beast took home the “Best Original Song” Oscar in 1992, but it was just one of three songs nominated from the movie. But “Belle,” the opening song, and “Be Our Guest” were also up for an Oscar. Must have been rough to be the writers of the other two songs in that category: “When You’re Alone” from Hook and “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
.6. THE CO-DIRECTOR STARTED HIS CAREER DRAWING CARICATURES.
Co-director Kirk Wise started his career drawing caricatures for tourists—but not Disney tourists. While attending art school, Wise made extra money by working at Universal Studios
.7. THE BEAST IS A MASH-UP OF VARIOUS ANIMALS.
He’s got the mane of a lion, the beard and head of a buffalo, the brow of a gorilla, the eyes of a human, the tusks of a wild boar, the body of a bear, and the legs and tail of a wolf ... and a little something extra. Animator Glen Keane claims that “Beast actually has a rainbow bum, but nobody knows that but Belle.”
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
8. ONE ANIMATOR WISHED THAT THE BEAST STAYED A BEAST.
Keane wished that the Beast had stayed a Beast instead of transforming into his princely human form. To help bridge the gap, he penned a funny line for Belle to say at the end: “I had them record Belle saying, ‘Do you think you could grow a beard?’ It was a good idea. It’s not in the movie. We should have put it in there.”
9. ANGELA LANSBURY SAID THE DEMO MUSIC WAS A LITTLE TOO ROCK 'N' ROLL.
When Angela Lansbury heard the demo of "Beauty and the Beast," it was "kind of a rock song," she told The Huffington Post. "I told them, 'This is a sweet message, but this really isn't my style. Are you sure you want me to do this?' They told me to sing the song the way I envisioned it, so that's what I did. I created it the way a little English teapot would sing the song." Producer Don Hahn said that Lansbury "went into the booth and sang 'Beauty and the Beast' from beginning to end and just nailed it. We picked up a couple of lines here and there, but essentially that one take is what we used for the movie."
10. THERE'S A SLY REFERENCE TO DISNEYLAND
.You have to squint to see it, but when Maurice gets lost in the woods toward the beginning of the movie, one of the road signs he finds points the way toward Anaheim—which is home to Disneyland.Walt Disney Studio
s11. THE POSTER WAS DESIGNED BY A MASTER OF THE ART.
John Alvin, the artist who created Beauty and the Beast's iconic movie poster, also designed the posters for some other films you might be familiar with, including E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Gremlins, The Lion King, The Color Purple, and Blazing Saddles.
12. BELLE MADE A CAMEO IN THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.
Fittingly, she has her nose in a book. You can also see brief appearances by Pumbaa from The Lion King and Magic Carpet from Aladdin. It’s hard to spot Pumbaa—and tragic, as he appears to have been slaughtered—but both directors have confirmed all three cameos.
13. BELLE ISN’T THE ONLY BEAUTY AND THE BEAST CHARACTER THAT POPS UP IN OTHER MOVIES.The Beast can momentarily be seen in Aladdin as one of the animal stacking toys the Sultan plays with
.14. THERE'S A NON-MUSICAL VERSION.
An earlier version of the movie contained no music. It also gave Belle a little sister named Clarice and a cat named Charley.
15. AUDIENCES WERE SUPPOSED TO SEE THE SEQUENCE WHERE THE YOUNG PRINCE IS TURNED INTO THE BEAST.
The sorceress would chase the prince through the castle hurling magic at him, hitting servants and accidentally turning them into objects instead. Eventually, she hits her target and turns him into an animalistic creature. She leaves, and we see the young Beast looking out from the castle windows, screaming for her to come back and fix him. Wise nixed the sequence. He later said, “The only thing that I could see in my head was this Eddie Munster kid in a Little Lord Fauntleroy outfit.”

The Schnee-Belladonnas
A/N: a small monokids story
Summary: Wynne was taciturn and passive. Eboni was loud and cheerful. They might have been polar opposites but it did not stop Wynne from caring.
Part A! The story of how Wynne got her scars
Fanfiction link!
Wynne had always been the nuisance she knew that very well. She didn't care what her classmates thought of her and ignored their snide comments as they called her a bore when she remarked at their childish games. She preferred the quiet atmosphere of the school library or the sounds of the weapons clashing as she observed their mothers daily training regime. Eboni was different, she was brave, ready to please, always with a pleasant smile on her face and a penchant for adventure. She was always up for a challenge whether it was a contest to see who would hold their breath longer or climb the tallest tree. Wynne admired that confidence to face other people that was something she lacked as one who could only use the facts she borrowed from books she poured hour upon hour to read.
However, this time Eboni wasn't listening to reason and stood emerald eyes piecing accusingly at her younger twin. Wynne knew it was not courage pushing her sister this time but merely recklessness. Truth be told, Wynne always thought of her classes games as reckless yet they had always been harmless. Until now.
"It's just a game why do you have to be so difficult,"
Wynne crossed her arms, her faunus ears shriveled down and her tail flickered in a nervous twitch, "The forest is dangerous right now,"
"Everyone's done it!" Eboni huffed, "It's only a half an hour walk away,"
It was true, their class had all showed them the little crystals they had picked from a cave in the forest, an area had always been family friendly. Nonetheless the cliff side was situated by the gate that kept out the grimm and it was not far from that was the area where their parents and various huntsmen were patrolling due to a breach. The situation had been contained as the last report indicated yet there was a rumor of some grimm still lurking in the forest. The city had been deemed safe yet the townsfolk were recommended to never breach curfew and avoid the forest until it was certain that all threats had been removed. Even so, this might have further ignited the thrill of a prospective adventure for Eboni who childishly loved being the center of attention and hated being left out. She had always loved the heros in fairy tales and longed to emulate them.
"You could as ma to get you one during her patrol!" Wynne insisted trying to find a way to dissuade her, she silently hoped Reavey's music lesson would end soon so they could make their way home.
"That's cowardly! No hero would ask their mother to go on an adventure and retrieve the treasure for them!" Eboni protested shaking her head in defiance,"It'll be a cinch for a future huntress!"
"No!Eboni! you could get hurt," Wynne knew her argument was sound yet when her sister had a plan in mind she would see it through the end. Regardless, if nothing else the twins did share their pigheadedness.
"I'm still going!" Eboni proclaimed stomping towards the forest only for her path to be cut by her twin. Eboni dug her nails into her palms as her temper flared and growled in annoyance.
"You'll get us scolded," Wynne said exasperated narrowing her eyes back at her older sister, "Reavey will soon be done anyway,"
"It's fine! She knows we wouldn't get into trouble,"
"This is trouble!"
"You really are a no fun spoilsport," she spat pushing her younger sister out of the way and causing Wynne to stumble a few steps back with no regards as tears welled up in the baby blue eyes. Wynne could only look as the other darted away from her and was left standing shaken by her words.
She sniffled pushing her sleeve into her nose and looked down at her feet as her tail coiled around her. Wynne glanced at the receding figure by the forest and moved to turn towards the school building. She thought about calling for Reavey, their older sister was clumsy but always knew what to do. Her mind explored all possibilities, there was a chance she had exaggerated, the cave was close to the city even if they had to pass through the forest there were numerous professionals working around the clock to keep them safe. It wasn't so difficult to see Eboni coming back as promised triumphant and happy of having retrieved her precious crystal. No one would blame Wynne if she just retrieved an adult and told them.
Yet she could not shake the sense of dread that compelled her to sprint after her older twin. The branches and shrubs scratched at her ankles, her arms and pulled at anything entangling with them as she ran by. She felt a sharp pain tugging at her hair which caused her to slip but could not stop her as she bounced on her feet and avoided tripping. She blew at the white locks that came in her line of vision and reasoned that she had probably lost her scrunchie. Wynne didn't know how long she had been searching but her mind wandered to their older sibling who surely would be panicking when she noticed the playground the twins had been left in was vacant. Focusing on any sounds that could lead her to her sister she was brought to a small clearing and luckily her instinct her guided her right to the placed she needed to be. In front of her, Eboni sat dirty her escape cut short by the tree her back pushed against, she was shivering as a lumbering beowolf loomed over her a growl rumbling deep in its chest.
Wynne screeched her sister's name as she kept her momentum to reach her in time. Eboni's fearful eyes widened and she roared for Wynne to run as tears streamed down her face. The beowolf raised his claws high up as Wynne reached out for her sister her heart thumping painfully against her rib cage. Eboni shrieked as the talons descended towards her and raised her arms in a feeble attempt to block. Wynne swerved round to stand in front her family as the swipe connected and all of a sudden all she could see was black. An excruciating, burning pain and wetness spread from the right side of her head and a second jolt run throughout her body. Her ears twitched as she heard Eboni shriek and she desperately tried to open her eyes. For some reason her right eye kept being shut against her will as a warm liquid that flowed into it caused her vision in the eye to blur. The last thing she saw was the hooded figure that jumped between them and the grimm. Her lips curled in a smile as she lost consciousness relieved by the presence of their heroic saviour.
'Reavey!!'
TBC in part B! Reavey has a mini heart attack but the oldest kid is introduced!!! and possibly breaks a rib!!!!

OSF AU - All the Little Children (1/?) points
Fū and certain other characters don’t get a whole lot of spotlight in OSF proper, so here’s an AU of an AU and at this point I almost feel like referencing Inception.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Part 1: In which a fairy saves a small child, bugs have families, and everyone is lost. (Takes place ten years prior to the start of One Piece.)
Fū sighed. “Chōmei? Chōmei, you can stop laughing any time now.”
“You’re upside-down in a tree, Fū! This is about the unluckiest I’ve ever seen you,” Chōmei squeaked in response, his voice much higher than it had ever been in Fū’s life. He sounded like a child, not a mighty Tailed Beast. He didn’t sound like the beetle she’d spent her whole life befriending.
Then again, Fū thought as she reached up to undo the vines tangled around her legs, he’s never been this small before. “Well, you’re not wrong. I guess it’s a change for both of us.”
Chōmei made a sad little humming noise, angling his head upward toward her as she dropped from the canopy. Her best friend had either shrunk or gotten way younger, because he didn’t even have his signature orange wings or blue armor anymore. Instead, he was a red-eyed beetle larva the length of her forearm and about four times as wide. While he had tiny nubs for legs, and seven longer ones to represent the spots where his wings and tail would someday grow in, Chōmei was almost helpless now.
Fū knelt next to him, and he climbed into her lap. He didn’t feel slimy, just cool and a bit squishy. Fū ran her hands over his head, then let him grip her fingers in his mandibles. “I don’t know where we are, Chōmei. None of the trees look the same.”
“They look almost the same from my viewpoint.” Chōmei clambered up her arm and onto her back, to where her empty scroll-holster sat strapped to her back. “It’s lucky you have this, Fū. You can carry me without hands.”
“I’m just worried you’re gonna be stuck like this, Chōmei,” Fū replied, helping her beleaguered companion into his new carrier. “Don’t you wanna just fly?”
“I do, but maybe you should check if you still can? That would be a lucky break, wouldn’t it?” Chōmei sounded cheerful, his tinny voice accented by the thumps of his tail-stubs against his fabric seat.
Fū grinned at her friend’s attitude, then put her hands together. “Let’s try it, then!”
While Chōmei was small, his chakra flowed through her body the same as it always did. Orange wings, identical to the ones that Chōmei should’ve had, sprouted from her back just below the edge of her shirt. She flapped her rings rapidly, making them go almost invisible to the naked eye through sheer speed, and then hopped experimentally.
In no time at all, she was flying as though Chōmei hadn’t lost size and mobility.
“This is so different from when I’m flying!” Chōmei said, sticking his head out of the carrier as they flew through the lower sections of the trees. “You know, once I get back to normal, we should try this again. It’s nice relying on you instead.”
“I’m glad you think so,” Fū said, as they skittered through the air a few more times to get their bearings, “but help me look out for trees!”
Really, it wasn’t all that different from flying with any old weight on her back. Fū already knew how to compensate for training devices, her bedroll, and a million other things. Chōmei being alive and occasionally moving was a little weird, but he was so happy about the situation that Fū didn’t feel the slightest bit discouraged. He was her little pep-talk in a bag.
Practicing, though, was necessary. Fū remembered how tough it’d been to learn how to fly in the first place, and she needed to be careful in case Chōmei wasn’t as tough as he used to be.
“ Fū, I have a suggestion,” Chōmei said, after they’d been flying level for a few minutes. “Can we go that way? I feel like it’s a lucky direction.”
“North?” Fū asked, coming to stop on a high tree branch. “What makes north so lucky?”
“I think I can feel other Tailed Beasts over there! Meeting with two of my siblings would be really lucky.” Chōmei wriggled his tails. “I haven’t seen them in a really long time.”
Fū paused for a second. She’d never met Chōmei’s family, but she had heard that they were stuck with other hosts. Would the other jinchūriki be friendly or not? Regardless of the answer, she owed it to Chōmei to make sure he could see his family again. She didn’t really know what else to do.
“Okay, we can do that.” Fū flitted into the air again. “Oh, can you tell me stories about them as we go?”
“Of course, Fū!”
Fū and Chōmei didn’t go nearly at their highest speeds, because the warm forest was way too dense. Flying too fast would lead straight into a crash, and Fū didn’t need to have another one of those under her belt. That flying slowly meant Chōmei’s voice could soothe her during the trip was a great benefit, too. His voice was different now, but he could talk for hours and hours without needing to breathe or to drink water for a break. Even with the noise in the jungle, it helped to have one consistent, friendly face along for the ride.
“Aaaaaaah! Somebody help meeeee!”
Fū jerked to a stop in midair, wings buzzing anxiously. “Someone’s in trouble.”
“Go,” said Chōmei, and Fū flew in the direction of the screams.
Fū zipped through the warm forest air, weaving around and over trees and underbrush as she made her way toward the sounds of both screams and wolves howling in the afternoon light.
She hit the ground and rolled when she reached the edge of a ravine, then dove down toward the screams without hesitation, feet-first.
She landed on a wolf the size of a cow, shoving its whole head straight into the dirt below under the weight of her flapping wings and her chakra-charged stomp. Its jaw slammed shut mere centimeters from a screaming kid half Fu’s size, sending bits of teeth and blood everywhere. Before jumping off to face the rest of the pack, Fū gave it one more stomp for good measure.
“Six on one’s not a fair fight, you jerks!” Fū shouted, as the wolves near the back of the pack started to reconsider their choices. “Let’s make it three!”
“A fairy?!” screeched the kid behind her.
Not the best reaction to a heroic entrance Fū had ever heard, but she’d take it. Dropping into a taijutsu pose, even with Chōmei on her back and her wings still buzzing, Fū said, “Chōmei, ready?”
Chōmei spat a glob of silk directly at the face of a wolf coming up behind Fū, hitting it perfectly. “You know it! Let’s show them it’s not their lucky day!”
“D-don’t forget about me!” said the kid with the straw hat, and the three of them fought the wolves together.
Sure, most of the fight came down to Fū’s punishing kicks and her wings battering the wolves when her legs didn’t, but the kid did what he could even if wild flailing punches was the extent of it. Chōmei kept both eyes on him, for the sake of making sure their rescue went all the way through. And shot more silk at the wolves.
In the end, Fū left a pile of broken wolf bodies lying all over the rocks. Some of them had silk on them, of course, but she didn’t have time for getting rid of that kind of inconsequential evidence. All she did was blow on her knuckles to make sure they hadn’t split, then went to check on the little rescue-ee.
Fū ’s new friend was actually a little older than she had thought. While was tiny and round-faced and skinny-limbed, he had a curved scar under one eye and a set to his jaw that she didn’t usually see in the younger village kids. At least, not before their parents pulled them away from her. Sure, the straw hat he wore was way too big for him, and he was covered in scrapes and debris, but he wasn’t panicky or crying (that much).
Fū liked him instantly. Without hesitation, she crouched down to his eye level and held out a hand. “Hi! Are you all right?”
“I-I’m fine!” The kid put on a brave face. Though his lower lip wobbled for a second or two, he took a deep breath and grabbed her hands in his. With his eyes and nose running like faucets, he stammered, “Y-you were really cool!”
“I was, wasn’t I?” Fū said, smiling at the compliment. “Thank you!”
“What about me?” Chōmei wanted to know, sneaking out from his carrier. “Am I cool?”
“Uwaa!” The kid looked like he was over the moon, despite his injuries. “Your bug talks? Bug, you’re the coolest thing ever!”
“His name is Chōmei, and I’m Fū.” She said in a fake-serious voice, “Chōmei and me were gonna meet up with his brothers, and then we heard you! So before we go, Chōmei wants to know if you’re okay. For real.”
“I’m fine, really!” the kid insisted, more confidently this time. With one hand on his hat, he said firmly, “I’m—I’m gonna be the Pirate King someday, so this is nothing!”
“What’s the name of the future Pirate King, then?” Chōmei asked.
“Monkey D. Luffy,” said the kid. A thought struck him. “Hey, can you join my crew?”
“You got a ship?” Fū countered playfully.
“Uh… Not yet,” Luffy admitted, a little shamefaced. Then he puffed himself right back up and added, “But I will someday! Once I do, then you can join and we can have adventures, Fairy! And Coconut, are you going to join too?”
“After you’re a little bigger,” Chōmei promised. “But first, I need to see my brothers and tell them what is happening.”
“That makes—wait, bugs have brothers?” Luffy blinked, his eyes huge as he thought it through. He covered his mouth with both hands. “Bugs have brothers waiting for them?”
“This bug does,” Chōmei said, his tails waving in the air. “I’m a rhinoceros beetle! Just small.”
Mostly, anyway.
“So cool!” Luffy squealed, in awe.
“Hey, Luffy? Can I see your arms?” Fū asked, drawing the boy’s attention back to her. She folded her wings back so they barely brushed the ground, keeping them out of the way. “You look like you’ve had a tough day.”
Luffy fidgeted before he complied, then said, “Only a little bit.” He was a lousy liar, pursing his lips and refusing to meet her eyes. He even innocently whistled a note or two. “I definitely haven’t been out here for three days!”
Fū’s eyebrows rose. Three days in a jungle like this was no small thing, especially for a boy this young. With his arms all scratched up like this, though, she believed him. Though there was something weird about his skin and his arms. Neither one really felt normal, not like Shibuki or any of Fū’s old teammates.
Still, Luffy appeared to either not want her to worry, or be trying to preserve his pride. She let his arms go and said, “Why are you out here all alone, though?”
“I’m not alone, not really!” Luffy insisted. “Uh, I definitely wasn’t following Ace around. And I’m not lost!”
“Well,” Fū began slowly, choosing her words with care, “even if you’re not lost, I am.”
“Eh?! But you have wings! Can’t you just…?” Luffy flapped his arms, totally confused.
“It’s not that easy,” Fū said, eying his movements. Did… Did his elbow just bend…? “Ah!”
“Hm?” Luffy stopped flapping, his arms coming to a halt at his sides. Even so, his limbs bounced like rubber, not like normal arms! Not even like Fu’s.
“How are you doing that, Luffy?” Fū asked, taking his hand. Before she realized it, she stretched his hand a lot farther away from the rest of him than made any sense. “Whoa…”
“I ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi!” Luffy explained cheerfully, hooking his other hand around his mouth and pulling. His face stretched like it was made of— “I’m a rubber man!”
“This is so cool,” Fū breathed, her eyes shining. “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!”
“How far can you stretch?” Chōmei asked, crawling out onto Fu’s shoulder.
“I can stretch really far!” Luffy let his cheek snap back to its normal dimensions, then grinned widely. “And my punch is like a pistol!”
“What’s a pistol?” Fū asked.
“It’s, uh, it’s a gun!” Luffy said. Clearly, this was supposed to make sense.
But it didn’t. “What’s a ‘gun’?”
Luffy made a face, then frowned as he thought. It was quite a frown, with his face pulled into an awful exaggerated grimace. Then, “Um, Dadan has one? I can show you!”
“Okay,” Fū replied, since she could still make it to Chōmei’s brothers before sundown. This was okay.
Luffy held out his hand until she took it and started to tug Fū along, then froze mid-step before his arm could stretch out when she didn’t immediately follow. Twisting his head all the way around without moving the rest of his body, he screeched, “I’m not lost!” He fidgeted in place again, hopping from foot to foot. “I, uh. I just don’t know how to get back to the bandits…”
Fū got fully to her feet, sending her wings buzzing rapidly. She put her free hand to her chin in an exaggerated thinking pose, then said, “Hey, Luffy? Maybe we should fly around until we find it! You can ride with Chōmei, and he can tell you all about how I do it.”
“Really?!” Luffy squeaked, looking up at her with an even more awestruck expression. “Can—can we go really fast? Really, really fast?!”
“You got it!” Fū said, giving him a thumbs-up.
“Yay!”
“Just be sure to hang on tight,” Chōmei warned him.
With that, Luffy bounced over to give Fū the biggest hug he could. His whole body wasn’t that much bigger than Fū’s torso, so when he wrapped his legs and arms around her a couple of times to be secure, her wings still had plenty of room to maneuver. Chōmei was forced to move up toward her shoulder blades, but he and Luffy could still talk to each other.
They ended up flying together for about twenty minutes, though Luffy didn’t know how to find “the bandits.” While Fū hoped silently that he only meant his family and was calling them a funny name, she flew around the forest until she could hear the sounds of shouting in the distance. Unlike when she met Luffy, the voices were nearly all deep enough to belong to adults instead of lost kids, and most of them were just rowdy. If Luffy wanted to head toward all that noise, though, Fū wouldn’t tell him she couldn’t take him there. After all, she could fly.
Fū twisted her wings around so they could hover, just at the edge of where the forest turned into a little clearing. Amid the short grass and on a little hill, there was a building that looked a bit like a village longhouse. There were three sections, and the door had a pair of crossed swords on top like a pair of beetle horns.
Luffy unwound himself from Fū’s stomach with a snap, turning back into just a little kid with a straw hat and not a walking rubber band. He stumbled a little bit, but dashed toward the hut without a backwards glance. “Hey, I’m back!”
Fū rocketed up into the trees, leaping instead of flying so she didn’t make any noise.
“Luffy came back alive!”
“He’s still alive?!”
“Where the hell were you?!”
“Where have you been?”
Luffy responded to all of this with a loud, “I was running from wolves and got chased off a cliff and a fairy and a bug saved me!”
Fū saw Luffy turn in the doorway, then look around in confusion.
“Eh?! She disappeared!” A pause. “Oh, right! She’s gotta find Coconut’s brothers and go back to the fairy kingdom.”
“…Did you hit your head on something?”
“Nope! I bounce.”
“Sorry, Luffy, but a heroine must be mysterious and cool!” Fū whispered, so only Chōmei could hear her. Crossing her arms dramatically, she added at the same volume, “I’ll see you again someday, but for now I have a mission for Chōmei. Until then, goodbye!”

Popular Shounen Characters
As the shounen genre follows a fairly traditional narrative structure, there is a foundation for the character traits of a traditional shounen protagonist. They typically have big hearts and lots of energy, though they may not be the most intellectually gifted. Despite this, they are often quite pragmatic in combat. Along with physical strength, they often posses of strong sense of morals and justice.
Some notable shounen protagonists include:
Goku-The main character of Dragon Ball is arguably the mold that future shounen heroes are made after. While not the brightest, his kindness and dedication to his friends have made him endearing. His spiky hairstyle has also been emulated by later characters.Naruto Uzumaki-The titular hero is arguably the successor to Goku. He even wears an orange gi! He is very energetic, although he is not quite the smartest of the ninjas. However, he is determined to be a hero and is loyal to his friends. The series does highlight his growth and he becomes more mature and powerful by the end.Luffy-The main character of One Piece is one of the most prominent shounen heroes of the 2000s along with Naruto. His hot-blooded personality may be a flaw, but his crew is willing to put up with it because of his prowess in combat. He can be very inventive when the need calls and can be relied on when the situation is dire.Ichigo Kurosaki-The hero of Bleach follows the tradition of having spiky hair. He is hot-blooded in battle but is actually shown to have good grades in school, subverting the trope of the dumb hero. Protecting his family, friends, and community is his primary motivation.Izuko Midoriya-The protagonist of My Hero Academia is a recent entry in the pantheon of shounen heroes. He has a strong sense of justice as he strives to be the best hero he can be. He also surrounds himself with group of comrades that motivate him. He is shown to be rather intelligent as he analyzes his opponents in combat.
