A team of young cures and their mentor are tasked to stop a fated conflict decades in the making.  Along the way, Yuanfen Zhao and her friends find out what it truly means to grow up and the importance of bonds.

Characters 💕

Yuanfen Zhao/Cure Fěn (Hóng Sè)

A timid girl who spends her free time playing with dolls and restoring broken dolls to give them away. She's empathetic and affectionate, but is held back by her debilitating fear of.. pretty much everything. Yuanfen is very skittish and struggles with making friends. She appears very mellow from a glance, but she's internally very hyper. Her mind is constantly racing.

Cure Fěn tends to avoid fighting whenever possible, and embraces her role as a healer. Using her wand, Yuanfen mainly uses long ranged attacks.

Ryouta Asuka/Cure Rojo

Ryouta Asuka is the quiet realist of the Love Sent! Motto Motto Precure team. He struggles to express his feelings and read the feelings of others, leaving others to believe he is cold. In reality, he is incredibly caring, finding it easier to express himself using actions rather than words. Ryouta enjoys surfing the internet for Precure trivia along with roller skating. However, he finds little time for these things, as he's stuck babysitting his two younger sisters all the time.

Cure Rojo is the offensive frontliner of the team, using his blade and explosive abilities to take down enemies swiftly. Rojo seems to care little about his own well-being, often he finds himself injured after battles.

Yuzuki Yuuta/Cure Giallo

Yuzuki is the most social of the initial trio of cures. She's flamboyant and fun to be around. However, her social status is built on a mountain of lies. A compulsive liar by nature, Yuzuki is scared to share her true self with people. It takes the other cures a long time to break down the walls she's built around herself. In private, Yuzuki enjoys gymnastics, playing video games, and... pretending to be a demon lord?

Cure Giallo is a speedy and playful fighter, using her skills from gymnastics to move skillfully across the battlefield. Giallo uses a whip in combat.

Momoka Masami/Cure Cœur

Momoka outwardly portrays herself as a perfect student, friend, and Precure: A role model for her young comrades. Momoka is constantly portraying a persona, never being her true self. Even her motherly side is merely a persona. The exact reason why she does this is unknown, but it likely stems from her 6 year career as a Precure. She likely went through alot during that time, and her primary goal is to make sure the younger trio never have to suffer like she did.

Cure Cœur outclasses her teammates by a wide margin due to her long career. She wields a lance and often goes a little too far, and could even be seen as a bit sadistic. She doesn't mean for this to happen, she has simply grown numb to both the pain she inflicts on others and the pain she is subjected to.

Hello! I’ve decided to throw in my fanseries into the Fancuries this year. I hope I’m not too late with my FYC post, but I decided to give it a shot!

Sweetheart Pretty Cure- My first ever fanseries, that was first worked on in 2012, but got revamped in 2015-16. It’s a treasure themed fanseries where five girls; Ayano, Kagami, Naomi, Maki, and Junko are the Pretty Cure, trying to stop the evil Dusk Kingdom from taking over the world.

For Fancuries Consideration--Pocket Monsters Precure!

Well, I decided “why not,” and thought I’d make a FYC post for this year’s Fancuries!

This is my crossover fanseries, Pocket Monsters Precure.

The series takes place within the Pokemon universe, but none of the main cast is connected to the official series’ storylines. The series is currently on the backburner while I focus on my Borderlands webcomic, BUT it’s still being worked on/retooled a bit.

In this series, the Pokemon world is ravaged by a bizarre phenomenon called “Nega-Evolution”--a sinister process that takes a pokemon’s negative emotions and turns them into vicious monsters. As a result, many legendary pokemon have begun bestowing Cure Compacts to those they deem worthy of the powers of Precure, legendary defenders of humans and pokemon. The core focus of the story takes place on a place called Unity Island, where four such girls--Kailani/Cure Sunrise, Fae/Cure Wish, Naomi/Cure Starlight, and Asuka/Cure Willow--team up to try and track down the source of the nega-evolution phenomenon as they face off against the mysterious Team Dysphoria.

The series is light-hearted and sometimes aware of its own tropes (at one point Naomi wonders why legendary pokemon would choose only adolescent girls as Precure), and as my first fanseries it doesn’t delve too deeply into very dark/complicated subject matter.

Along with the main four Cures, there are also multiple Cures across the regions who, though they are not part of the main story, all have their own roles to play in their own adventures.

This has been a fun, wholesome pet project for me, and I hope that people enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed planning it.

For some history of my art journey, I started drawing before Kindergarten, or during preschool. I guess you could say I've been drawing my whole life, but my art wasn't that good. It really wasn't until the last few years that I seriously focused on. I guess my progress is showing, since I got nominated, but I still think I have a long way in my art journey. I enjoy drawing and enjoy practicing in order to continue improving.

FYC: Ryta for the Fancuries!

Um, so here is my fancuries for your consideration post!

Toychest Pretty Cure, My latest completed fanseries, that began in September 2018 and ended in May 2020.

The story follows 3rd year in highschool Kiriko Tenoh, the proclaimed reserved and diligent student council president, who’s known to keep people at a distance. In truth, she’s a girl in who very in touch with her inner child. Toys, dolls, picture books, and a bedroom she’s dubbed her own little “Pastel Palace”, Kiriko is happiest in the presence of all things cute and that remind her of her childhood. But, she refuses to let anyone know about this interest of hers, she’d prefer to be seen as mature, even if this makes people feels she’s all the more unlike them. 

One day after a visit to the library to borrow some picture books, she meets a pair of plush toys from a far away land who claim they’re on a mission to save their home, the Toy Kingdom! And so, Kiriko throws herself into the fray, awakening as leader Cure Dolly and begins the journey of Toychest Pretty Cure!

Kiriko Tenoh/ Cure Dolly- Lead Cure, the toy she represents are dolls. Kiriko is serious and practical in every way, always seen trying to find the logic and a reasonable solution in any situation she’s put into. But, Kiriko’s maturity is balanced out with a love of plushies and all things cute, a trait that’s she in truth ashamed of.

Asuna Morino/ Cure Teddy- Supporting Cure, the toy she represents is the teddy bear. Despite seeming quiet and unapproachable, Asuna appears to be quite the opposite since she has many friends and is often seen by their side, but otherwise, many see her as aloof and a bit stubborn. 

Sophie Aina/ Cure Bubbly- Supporting Cure, the toy she represents is the rubber duck. Undoubtedly the most cheerful and energetic on the team, Sophie is like a breath of fresh air among the Toychest Pretty Cure, ever so optimistic and bright. She aspires to be a model and is the oldest of five children.  

Mari Miyazono/ Cure Fantasy- Supporting Cure, the toy she represents is the kaleidoscope. The nicest girl of the team, Mari was always enticed by stories of the Laruan Kingdom her mom told her when she was young and always idolized Cure Cheer, and now gets her chance to be like her as the final member of the team.

Nominee Spotlight: Love Sent! Motto♥Motto Precure

Love Sent! Motto♥Motto Precure is nominated for multiple awards at the 2022 Fancuries. Here’s what the creator Fennieaile @mottomottoprecure​ has to say:

Best Villain Design - Ikari’s design is basic on purpose. Some of my favorite characters in Precure have always been the “Sadboy” Teenager Villains (Kiriya, Julio, Ira, Daruizen, etc) they’re somewhat of a staple of Precure. When I first came up with Ikari, he was meant to emulate that trend without a hint of Irony. However, as Ive grown older, he’s become more like a parody of that Precure Trope. He’s meant to poke fun at the concept. He’s clumsy, stupid, impulsive, has a crippling fear of heights, and screams like a toddler. Despite that, he sees himself as a brooding, misunderstood, badass. His design reflects this in that he’s trying desperately to look cool and edgy, that he doesn’t seem to realize he looks kinda foolish. His design is NOT meant to be cool, it’s meant to align specifically with what this 14-year-old emo loser thinks is cool.

Cutest Written Cure - Yuanfen Zhao’s mannerisms are largely based on my own memories of my childhood, research into both child psychology and neurodiversity, and observations I’ve made after watching my young cousins. Yuanfen’s a sweetheart, who’s caring and generous. While this is a great strength, it is also a weakness. Yuanfen is extremely naïve and gullible. She often fails to think things through, and doesn’t understand much about the world. She’s believes there is good in everyone, despite being proved wrong time and time again. Her worldview is childish, and does little to expand past her average life. This is in contrast to the other cures on her team, particularly Momoka, who has been through a lot in the six years she has fought as a Precure. Despite Momoka’s desire to teach and protect Yuanfen, it’s arguable that Yuanfen herself ends up teaching Momoka a lot more, about love, forgiveness, and embracing one’s inner child. I added a lot of small moments to chapter one (as well as more in the upcoming chapter two) to highlight Yuanfen’s childish naïveté and general cuteness. Some of my favorites include the moment where Yuanfen tries to relate to Momoka by relating Momoka’s struggles about public speaking to her own presentations in school, saying, “whenever I need to present in school… my words mix up like alphabet soup.“ Another reoccurring mention is that of Yuanfen’s Precure Trading cards, and her desperation for the Ultra-rare Holographic Cure Cœur card that alludes her. She often fails to understand phrases, relating to money and buisiness. Unfortunately, Yuanfen also has a terrible track record when it comes to fighting, considering her weapons of choice are twigs and garden rakes. Her love for dolls and toys are brought up frequently as well, as she laments her inability to bring toys to school. Her cuteness can even be seen in her transformation, where she uses crayons to design and create her cure costume.

Chapter of the Year - Love Sent! Motto💕Motto Precure Chapter One “Sending Love your Way, A Precure is Born” was very much a passion project for me. I started it in mid-2020, but didn’t make any significant progress until 2021. It was completed and published a few months after the previous Fancuries. I took my time on it, and it ended up maxing out at almost 11,000 words and 61,000 characters. Length is obviously not a good judge of quality, but I hope that it at least shows how much love I poured into it. I truly wanted it to be as good as possible, and I can only hope it met expectations. I hope to improve even more with the next chapter, even if it takes a decade to come out. 😭 Excellence in Writing - I started my efforts in writing as quarantine started. I had tried writing in the past but my goal then was never really to improve in writing. My goal was to get fanseries chapters out at a rapid pace with minimal editing. In fact, I remember my first fanseries, which was created when I was twelve (so 2017-ish), would have new uploads every day for several days in a row. Over time, my goal changed to improving my craft as much as possible. Largely inspired by my friends, I leaped into writing without much experience to my name. My largest improvement came with the help of my beta-readers and editors, who guided me along the way. It sometimes was hard to hear their critiques at first, as I never experienced that kind of thing before. At first, I let it affect my view of myself as a writer. I stared to convince myself that I would never be a good writer. But over time, I learned to take critiques in stride. Getting critiques and edits didn’t mean I was bad writer, and it’s largely thanks to them I managed to get MMP Chapter One out. Being over 10,000 words long, it was quite an undertaking. But the sense of pride I felt upon its completion was something I never felt before. MMP chapter two has faced its own unique difficulties, as now that I’ve created a standard for myself, I feel a new pressure to meet it. I’m a perfectionist, and I rarely settle for mediocrity when it comes to my work. As of now, I’ve gone through an AP English Class as well as a Creative Writing Class to improve my skills. Since then I’ve improved a lot, and I hope that MMP Chapter 2 won’t disappoint… even if it takes me like three more drafts to create something I deem adequate.

Pretty Cure ad Astra is a story about two girls who are visited by a fairy from a far-flung world, and gain the power of Pretty Cure to fight against an alien menace that wishes to cease all change in the universe. Check the series’ tag on my blog for more content, or my AO3 to actually read it. Ten chapters so far, but with some adjustments pending.

Even though I haven’t updated this story in quite a while, I’ve still been devoting a lot of thought to it! Most notably I have established designs for the villains now, which you can find on my blog. And of course Cures Comet and Meteor can still win a fair few awards, and I know they have a lot of fans. I appreciate everyone’s support!

Prime Pretty Cure is my current main series/obsession. It has light/dark, and elemental thematic, and is about four evil demi-goddesses who are reincarnated into heroic Cures. A lot of reincarnation fun lol.  The characters include; Radiant Lumiere / Ray. White/Pink/Rainbow Light Extra Hero. Main-character(?), and a being of pure light. Was basically a princess and now has to deal with living on a new planet, and discovering a lot of new emotions, like friendship lol. They also have to deal with the fact that they are not as Special and Perfect as they think they are.  Cure Splash / Morgan. Blue/Teal Water Cure. Salty bitch who loves dancing. Kinda tsundere about friendship, and likes being alone. Cure Terra / Beryl. Green/Brown Earth Cure. Upbeat and cheerful mood-maker. Wild-child and loves being in nature, as well making lucky stars.  Cure Ember / Hanan. Red/Orange Fire Cure. Generally level-headed nerd, who struggles with her internal anger issues. Despite not being the first, she takes up the leader-role among the group, by virtue of having probably the most braincells,,, aka 2. Cure Gale / Connie. Purple/Yellow Wind Cure. Started out being in the villain’s grasp, some angst, and was saved early on. Very shy and soft, and loves drawing. Struggles with big anxiety. Their mascot is Brightly Vivid Colorful Arch Von Everglow, a very extravagant peacock with rainbow tail-feathers, who basically becomes Ray’s dad. He’s a rainbow dad! Oyasumi Pretty Cure Z is one of my more prominent series with a sleep/dream/skies thematic. zzzzzz. It hasn’t been written yet, but will likely get its turn when Prime finishes after 439685 years LOL. In this, people’s dreams get corrupted and harvested to summon a nightmare-ish monster, and two young girls and a sheep and later a pillow have to put a stop to that! The characters include; Cure Luna / Nemu Yozora. Gray/Pink Moon Cure. Adventurous and energetic 13 year old, but is a good kid and loves her grandma. Cure Stella / Mayumi ‘Mayu’ Hoshizawa. Yellow Star Cure. Mature and big-sister type, and looks after her fellow cures, but tends to fall in love SUPER easily and becomes a stuttering mess.  Cure Cloud / Sayo. Blue Cloud Cure. Sheep fairy, and also ‘Veteran’ Cure, who has only trained and now having to actually fight as in ... danger... has a lot of trouble. Kinda meek, but is always trying to act more brave than she is.  Good Knight / Makura. Purple Dream/Night Extra Hero. Is a pillow-like mascot. Late Addition, who was the fairy partner to the legendary ancient Cure, and joins the group as a knight-like extra hero. Has no social skills, but a strong sense of justice, and is protective, and quickly becomes an awkward big brother to the Cures. They’re up against a mysterious trio (later quartet) of evil Cures, the Dreamcatcher Pretty Cure, each having a different origin and powers.  Wiki page here Tag here

Happy Haunt Pretty Cure is my monster/halloween themed series. It’s about a normal human who finds herself in a world of monsters, and basically becomes a central player in a fight between the world’s ancient dark energy and the Pretty Cure.  Characters include; Kaede Akizuki. Main Character, and not a Cure, despite having some sort powers. She’s really dumb, and fearlessly stupid, and is beyond excited to be stuck in a monster world. It’s “Awesome!” Cure Inferno / Iggy. Red Demon Cure. Laid-back and pretty lazy, always smiling, smirking, or grinning but can be quite nihilistic. Loves spicy donuts. Cure Vitalis / Cattleya. Blue Zombie Cure. Lively and cheerful, but quite naive and childlike. Is good at chores, and cooking, and has a sister-like bond with Iggy. Is learning how to read!! Good luck! Cure Skelet / Donna. Green Skeleton Cure. A bartender at the local pub, and a confident and sometimes a bit self-centered skeleton woman. Very protective of others, and is good at giving peptalks. Wants everyone to be as confident in themselves as she is. Cure Arachne / Frida. Purple Spider Cure. Seems somewhat quiet and timid, but can be quite pushy and has no sense of personal space. Is an amateur novelist and will do anything for ‘inspiration‘. Cure Wolf / Verena ‘Rena’. Yellow Wolf Cure. A ‘tamed‘ werewolf with a rough past, and has become very submissive and timid, despite having a lot of strength. Has a kind heart and loOOOOVESS being pet pat pot, as well belly rubs. Nominee Spotlight: Cure Ocean

Umiko Mizune / Cure Ocean from Siren Precure is nominated for Prettiest Cure at the 2020 Fancuries. Here’s what the creator, @aceaeite​ ​, has to say:

It is hard to play favourites with OCs, but Umiko is definitely one of my fav fancures as she is also one of the very first I created.

She’s a mermaid princess from one of many underwater kingdoms who had to escape to land to find the legendary Precure, Siren Precure to help her save her kingdom. Despite not being able to attack she is the only one in the group with the ability to buff/support her teammates and purify the monsters.

Cure Ocean’s Design has undergone several changes over time but as of now i am more than pleased with her look!

As there are plenty of mermaid themed fancures in the sea, my goal was to create a design, that had their (to me) own unique charm points. These are the two-tone colour palettes, parted skirts and individual hair highlights, and not to forget the scale leggings, ehehe.

For Umiko specifically, as she is the protector of the sea I chose blue as a subcolor and an amount of ruffles visualize her as the princess she is. The hair piece is a funny shaped shell that shall imply a tiara or a crown.

Anywho, I love Cure Ocean dearly and Siren Precure designs are designs I am the most proud of, and I simply wanted to show you all how much I love her.

It’s time to announce our fifth annual event! (How fitting that Yes! 5 is relevant again.) The committee is hard at work making this event bigger, more fun, and more inclusive for the community. Our theme this year is Heaven/Sky! For those who are excited to dress up and walk the red carpet, we’ll have the set ready soon. Check back on this post in case it gets updated later in the week.
