You dig a small hole in the dank bag. You need air. Sunlight. And a way to process your fears of what was happening to you. Looking through the pathetic hole to see yourself moving in the wrong direction. Faeries of the Spring Court never ventured here.
Branches turn into gnarly thorns, and you squeak in fear. Kicking your leg on the back of the ogre that stuffed you in here. “Easy does it, you pipsqueak. The king will love you.”
“No!” You start to blubber. Where was your king? Steve would protect you. Or would he? Even he didn’t come into the Dark Court. He only saw the king when there was a meeting of sorts. So you were told. “Please, I’ll do whatever you want.”
“Suck my cock then,” his laugh bellows out before he drops you and the bag on the forest floor. You peek your head out, gasping for fresh air, but it is too damp. Fog hangs over in the forest, making it impossible to see five feet in front of you.
“Well go on, tiny,” his chubby little hands start to reach into his pants, and you slam your hands over your eyes, shaking your head no. “What’s wrong? You telling me you never had the shiny king’s cock in your little holes?”
“No, Steve never asks us to do that. Steve is kind, he isn’t like you!”
“Oh, bullshit. You are the most frivolous of the courts. All you do is fuck,” of all the lies in Collingswood, you had never done anything of the sort.
“That’s summer,” you sniffle, still refusing to look at him. You could feel his warm breath too close to you, and you try to shuffle away from him, but his sweaty hand holds tightly to your foot. “Steve doesn’t…he wouldn’t,” his finger tries to push your hand off your eyes, but you keep them covered. “No! I don’t want to look at your disgusting penis!”
“You’d rather be eaten by the Dark King instead of sucking my cock? I can find another flower faerie. You are the prettiest ones in the glen. So delicate,” he flicks his fingers over your hair, and you want to sink into the earth.
“You smell so nice. Have the prettiest smiles. Won’t you show me your smile, tiny?”
“I have nothing to smile about. You’re going to shove your disgusting penis into me, and I don’t want it,” tears flow out your eyes and you try to remember your warm spot beside the creek. A perfect spot to dance in the wind while your king smiled at you. He wasn’t like the rest of them. Steve was good. He loved and adored his court.
“Your king isn’t as precious as you want him to be.”
“He’s not kidnapping faeries from other courts to be fed on, is he?”
“He just makes his queen watch as he fucks his flower faeries.”
“No he doesn’t,” you scream, yanking your arms off your eyes. The oaf of a fae was sitting down in front of you. Invading your personal space, but fully clothed. You hate him for the lies that he spews about your court, and your king, “Steve would never.”
“You know nothing about your king. All faeries run off sex.”
“Steve runs of pure kindness,” his laugh bellows through the glade, but then he surprises you, leaning forward to touch the petals of your dress with an odd tenderness. Making you confused with the quick change, “Stop that!”
“We don’t get flowers here, pipsqueak.”
“All these thorns, and no roses?” He shakes his head no. His eyes flick up towards you before quickly looking away. “What’s your name?”
“Lee. Now get in the bag. Jax is hungry.”
“Oh, god, he’s going to eat me.”
“Most women would love to be eaten by Jax and his magic tongue. But he doesn’t eat flesh. He eats emotions. Seeing how his latest meal was stolen from him, I need you to be afraid. Suck my cock or get back in the bag,” you thought you were making some progress with the troll, but no. He is still threatening you. “Go on, little bit. I got a big cock just for you.”
“Oh my god!” Your scream echoes through the thorns, and Lee smiles when a shift in the wind happens.
“Run,” he whispers, and you don’t hesitate to jump up, sprinting as far away from him as possible. Too caught up in your tears to realize you are running deeper into the maze of thorns. And he laughs. Cleaning up his bag before making his way to his post. Chuckling at how stupid flower faeries were without their king. Predictable in their simpleness.
Jax licks his lips, already savoring your fear. His ringed fingers burn with anticipation. You wouldn’t be scarred or tattooed, but being scared was the next best thing. Your panting breaths pulses in his veins, and his eyes dart in the direction you were running. Right to him.
He was a drug, and he knew it. They all feared him, and yet always ran right to him. He hoped you’d only be as delectable as Andy’s human. You couldn’t be. She was damaged. She was supposed to be for Jax. He could feel it. Could still taste it.
He fakes a pout when he hears you cry out in pain. Flower fae were too stupid to wear shoes in his realm. But then again, they were never asked. They were forced. Remained here once their sunshine was drained. Ashamed to go back to their king that would hold them, and share his light.
But they were forever corrupt. Filled with Jax’s darkness, and willing to do everything for their king. Would serve him in ways that would be thought of as sinful. But it was just pleasure. Flower fae were not meant to stay in darkness. They needed their king and sunshine to bloom.
You gasp as you see his shadow stand up. Seemingly so much larger than Steve. Your comfort and safe space. He was terrifying. “Don’t run. You need your foot looked at. Some of those thorns are poisonous,” you gulp, finally pulling out the giant thorn in your foot, and Jax takes a deep inhale at the scent that permeates the air.
“You do suck on people’s blood,” you whine. Having to sit on the floor of the forest, and hold your foot. It hurt worse pulling it out.
“It’s all lies they tell about me, sweetheart. Can I?” Jax squats down in front of you, reaching for your foot. What other choice did you have than to extend it to him. He looks at the hole from whence the thorn was before licking his thumb and pressing it to your foot.
Instant relief. That is until you see smoke billowing off you, and the pain. Scurrying out of his grasp, you look at the scorched upper part of your foot, “What did you do?” He holds up his hands, and you notice the rings on his fingers had created a scarred effect on his skin.
Indented in on him and singed on every finger, “Iron,” he answers softly. “Makes me stronger. Makes the legends of me more fearful. Helps me feel my own pain when all I can usually feel is others. Imagine pain being something you feed off. You forget your own self and what it actually feels like. This helps me remember me. And now it no longer works. But my ugly hands remind people of what a psycho I truly can be.”
“So you do want to eat me?”
“Not you, you tiny little thing. Your emotions. The dark ones that Steve won’t allow you to have. What type of flower are you?” You grunt at him. You are getting tired of everyone talking bad about your king. Steve wasn’t anything like they were saying. He just wasn’t. He was good.
“Aw, did I offend you? What silly name did Lee call you? I was going to call you by your flower, but I’ll take what he said.”
“Tiny and pipsqueak,” every word is short and enunciated. You hate him. Both of them. You want to go home and back into the sunlight. Have Steve pull you up into his lap where he holds onto you, letting you absorb his warmth.
“Keep hating me, Tiny. Your petals are pretty,” you are a pretty little thing. Smaller than the others were. Adorable. Your fear was matched just as equally as your loyalty to your court. There was a bite to you. “What kind of petals are they?”
“Rose,” you stub up, refusing to look at him. He was a monster. You heard all the stories. Steve warned you about Jax, and why you shouldn’t trust him.
“Do you prefer that name?”
“I’d prefer to go home.”
“In time, Tiny. I am hungry,” you put on a brave face, but your lip trembles. Delicious. You are almost as intoxicating as Andy’s human. His human. She belonged with Jax. Andy hated humans. Jax treasured them.
“I think you and I could help each other. One quick taste, and then, I have a job for you.”
“Will I get to go back home?”
“Depends on how good you do. Now crawl over into my lap, let me get a little taste. It won’t hurt. In fact, it’s almost orgasmic,” you furrow your brow as you look at him. “Oh, you haven’t sat on Steve’s lap, huh? Had him stuff you full with cock?” You had sat on his lap, but not to do something as disgusting as that. Steve was warmth. He was change and growth.
You shake your head as you start to crawl towards Jax. Perfection. “It’s the best drug you’ve ever had,” he whispers, reaching over to grab you up, and putting you on his lap. You wince at the feeling of his rings touching your exposed skin.
His nose tickles up your neck as he inhales your scent. Flattening out his tongue he licks up the column of your neck before you feel a prick on your sensitive skin, and then dreams. Like there are clouds floating around your body. High and in a world of your own. Whimpering at the feel.
Lee peeks at you and Jax. Selfishly wishing it was his lap that you were grinding on. Your eyes are so blown wide with pleasure you didn’t even know what you were doing. Jax did. He moans right along with you. He bet you tasted like heaven. If there was one.
Your petals rise up and show off your glimmering skin. You had marks etched on you. No wonder you smelled like that. He knew it when he threw the bag over your body. You are special. Beautiful. Perfect. Immaculate. Different than the other flower fae he had captured.
“Ahh,” Jax moans, pulling off your body. Letting you ride out your high as you rode his stomach. “You need a taste, Lee?” Lee could be jealous, but Jax was generous. Waiting until Lee sits down before he shuffles your body on him. Biting on his lip as you grind down on him.
“She’s a pretty little thing, huh?” Lee nods his head as his breathing picks up. You are perfect. “She’s tasty. Wonder what the honey between her thighs tastes like? Maybe one day I’ll get to indulge. I have something bigger planned for her. I need humans. I need their ink,” Lee’s hand nervously tries to keep your thigh covered. Jax shouldn’t know about it.
“She’s adorable. While the veil is still open, I want her to entice broken humans to me.”
“But, sire?”
“You can accompany her, just don’t be seen. You might scare them. Enjoy your ride, and put her in my bed when she passes out from her pleasure. Poor thing never felt an orgasm before. Too bad she won’t remember it. But she will crave me,” his dark laugh bellows out before retreating into the thorns. Jax was always up to something. Lee could only tolerate it.
But for now, he was going to rub his hands up and down your thighs. Let you ride out your high for as long as you need. Beautiful. Perfection. Sinful. You’ll fit right in. Letting yourself go into darkness as your petals shift over your skin. Getting sight of your perfect tits as your nipples start to poke out.
Cupping both your breasts, his thumb rubs over the hardened buds, and you moan. Overcome with this new feeling. His finger and thumb close over each nipple, and he squeezes. Adding more pressure when you start to whimper. You like it. Love it. The darkness is already spreading through you. Spring shouldn’t enjoy even a little bit of pain. They were innocent and vanilla.
He wants you tied to his bed begging for him. But for now he’s going to enjoy the vision of your tits bouncing in his face and wanting more. More pain. More Lee. More darkness. He’ll give it to you. He’ll give you everything that Jax refuses.
Tumblr media
“You get back here!” Lee growls as you run through the forest of thorns. Knowing where to duck and jump at just the right time. His goal was to keep you away from the king, and he’s succeeded most of the time.
“Argh!” He screams out when he loses sight of you. “You’re not going to like what you see!” His voice yells up into the sky. Shaking his head, he starts to sludge towards Jax’s palace. You’d brought him a human, and your deepest desire is to see what he did with the humans. Lee’s job was to keep you away from those creatures as Jax fed. He failed. He would pay. He is not looking forward to Jax’s wrath.
Slinking through the hallways, you listen to Jax’s deep groans. The screams of the human makes your skin crawl the closer you get. He has to be torturing her. Eventually murder her. Your morbid curiosity gets the best of you as you skip a few of the tiles, knowing that they would alert Jax to your whereabouts.
His door is opened a bit, and you have to peer through it. Watching his scarred back where his wings used to be. The skin is raised and still raw. Rippling with every thrust of his hips. The human woman’s hands start to claw into his skin, but he slams her hands above her head, growling something in her ear.
You can’t look away. You’d never seen your new king in such a vulnerable state. Completely nude with the woman. Unable to tell if she’s in pain or if those were cries of pleasure. Leaning into the door, it creaks and Jax turns his head. His minty green eyes locking in on you. His mouth sets into a frown, before he smirks.
Moving off the woman he turns her to look at you. Placing her on her knees before his hips slam into her backside. She is blind and doesn’t even see you, but his cold eyes stare at nothing else but you. Gnarling his teeth as he slaps her rounded ass, and you go to turn. “Don’t you dare!” He growls.
“You wanted to see. Watch it,” he chuckles as you start to step backwards, but your back hits Lee’s chest instead.
“I told you that you wouldn’t like it,” his breath is warm on your neck as he whispers right into your ear. “She’s enjoying it.”
“Why is she screaming then?” You can’t look away. It is horrible the way he is angrily jabbing himself into her.
“Pleasure. Some people get off on pain,” Jax’s hand wraps around her hair, and he forces her to look up at you. Make you see the recoil in her breasts. Her eyes are dead. “He overstimulates them before he ever enters them. This is what we call fucking. She’s so blinded by the over indulgence of pleasure she doesn’t even know where she is. Won’t remember coming beyond the veil.”
“He looks like an animal. He does this to all my humans?”
Lee’s hand slides over your stomach, pressing you tight against him, “Your humans?”
“I brought them to him. I bring them to slaughter.”
“They won’t remember much. He devours their sadness, their pain, and then he pleasures them with pain. They need him just as much as he needs them,” he moans on your neck. Unable to contain himself. You had started to roll your body with Jax’s movements. It isn’t as harsh as his stabbing, but it was just what Lee needs. Letting your tight little ass circle on his swollen crotch.
“They’ll be a new human tomorrow. Just flashes of a memory of this moment,” Lee sees Jax’s eyes flick to your thigh, and he stares horrified at your bare leg. Your petals had rode up, and the veining of your mark could be seen. Quickly he tries to pull it back down, but Jax knows what he saw. Lee has been lying to him.
Slapping at her ass again, Jax’s motions begin to jerk before he stops all together. “You want to clean me off?” He grins, pulling out of her, and he turns her behind to you. “You see how gaping I made her? Go on, darling, push it out.”
“Jax!” Lee shouts from behind you as you spin around, and hug yourself to his chest. “Enough!” Jax lets the woman’s body fall to the bed and he stalks over to Lee poking him hard on the shoulder.
“You’re too damn soft on her.”
“And you are bonded to her, and still want to embarrass her.”
“You were supposed to be watching her. She wanted to see. Wanted to see what my cock is used for, and now she has. You did that bitch a favor, Pipsqueak. She was in the depths of despair when you brought her to me, and now she has a high better than any fucking drug. She’ll go back with the humans as new woman. She won’t be sticking a needle in her vein, or having sex for money. She’ll have aspirations. You did a good thing,” his voice starts to calm, and the anger no longer right at the edge, “Pip? C’mere, darling.”
“No,” you mumble against Lee’s chest, “You’re naked, and smell of her.”
“Darling, I just want to hold you. It’s what you really need.”
“I said no!” You dare to look over at him, and his brows furrow. “I don't need you!”
“The hell you don’t! You’ll always need me, Pip. And you!” His gnarly finger points at Lee, “You have failed me, yet again. You have one job, keep the Pipsqueak away from my sessions. And you’re a fucking liar.”
“I’ve not lied to you,” he only wasn’t honest. He knew Jax would become obsessed with the mark on your leg. It was hardly noticeable. Nothing to get excited over.
“Withholding information is a lie, and punishable by death!”
“No!” Screaming, you turn around holding your arms out in front of Lee, “Don’t you touch him! I will tell Andy!”
“Don’t you dare scream your idle threats at me. He gets punished.”
“No,” you no longer scream, and Jax tilts his head down to look at you. “Punish me instead. He didn’t do anything. I did this. I came to find you because I needed to know why I couldn’t watch. Lee didn’t do anything. Jax, please, he’s my only friend.”
Jax’s hand goes to your chin, and he lifts you up to fully look at him. You grit your teeth as his iron rings burn your skin. You had learned well, and the urge he has to praise you gets pushed down. Now wasn’t the time, “I can’t hurt you, Pip.”
“And I can’t let you hurt him. Punish me. Do what you want.”
“No,” Lee pulls you tighter to him, but you shake your head looking at Jax. Your new king. And you wouldn’t allow him to hurt your friend.
“Please, use me instead of Lee,” Jax loved it when you asked nicely. Something inside of him stirs every time that your soft voice pleads for him to do something for you.
“Show me your leg,” Lee told you never to let Jax see your thigh, but what choice did you have now. You slide a petal over to the side, and Jax gawks at the vine that was fairly small. He sinks to his knees, and presses his nose against your thigh, sniffing up the length of the vine before his tongue flattens on your skin, and you push him away from you.
“Your punishment is to be in my bed every night. And you…I’m not finished with you, you miserable excuse of a man.”
“He is no man,” you remind Jax. “And neither are you.”
“Get this cleaned up, Lee.”
“I won’t sleep in the bed where you’ve had other women. I don’t want them on my skin,” Jax lets out a low growl, but his eyes move to the raw skin on your jawline. You took the pain. You were becoming part of his court, and still not growing weaker like the other flower fae. But, they would have already been bouncing on his cock. So you did deserve different quarters.
“Fine. Care to join me for a bath, Pip?”
“No.”
“Suit yourself. Lee, get used to useless work, you coward.”
Tumblr media
“Pip, come here, darling,” you look across the room into the bed where Jax sits, shaking your head. “You get your tiny little ass in here, I feel we need to talk.”
“You won’t hurt me?”
“Do you remember our bargain?” You shrug your shoulders, walking a bit more into the room. Faerie bargains can be a bit difficult, and you aren’t sure about your own with the king of sly words. “I can’t take from you as long as you bring me my humans. Have I ever taken from you, Pipsqueak?” Shaking your head no, Jax lifts his hand up to you, wanting you to take it on your own.
“I haven’t. We have both kept our end of the bargain.”
“But…I’m taking Lee’s punishment.”
He pulls you in between his thighs. His fingers no longer clad with iron rings, and his hands rub softly up and down your legs. Gone is the pain you always feel when he touches you. No longer a scent of burning flesh. A permanent indentation from his self caused pain of wearing iron. His thumb toys on the line of your mark, and you push him away. “Don’t fight me, Pip, you will lose.”
“Are you going to make me?”
“Make you what? Take my cock? No, darling. I have no desire to squeeze myself in your tiny little body. Why do you want to take on Lee’s punishment? He failed his job, and he was hiding your little secret from me.”
“It’s not a secret,” Jax raises his eyebrows as he stares down at you. “It’s not!”
“Where did you get them? You let someone mark your body, and didn’t tell me. You know how I love the taste of ink. Where did you get it?” His finger goes back to the edge of your mark, and as long as he doesn’t drift up him higher, you’ll allow this space.
“I was born with it.”
“That’s impossible. Only…Pip, who is your father?” You shrug your shoulders because you truly didn’t know who your father was. But you aren’t lying about the vines. “Let me taste it.”
“No,” his stomach rumbles with frustration. You always denied him at first. “That’s why I bring you humans. Lee said you shouldn’t know unless you asked. You never asked,” his hands on your thigh, roam up to your hips, settling on your waist before he lifts you up, and forces you on his lap. Straddling him, and your mark pokes out from beneath your dressing gown. It was getting darker. Bigger. More vibrant than before. The color was just as dark as his own.
“Do I scare you?”
“You can’t hurt me.”
“I can’t take from you. You can give to me though. There’s the difference, my tiny little Pipsqueak. You should know to make your intentions clear when making a bargain. I could make you scream and beg for me to take from you just to stop the pain. You’d do well in remembering that. Touch me. Go on, touch me. Run your dainty little hands up my chest. We’re bound together, darling, I own you. I can do whatever I want to with you, as long as I don’t take from you. Not even your life, but there are things much worse than death. Touch me!” He screams right at your face.
Your hands slide up his decorated chest. Using your fingers to trace the outlines of his own tattoos. Smiling when he starts to shudder, and then you slide down his back. Rubbing the pads of your fingers over his marred skin where his wings used to bed. “Enough!”
He pushes you onto the floor, and buries his face into his hands, “No one ever touches me there.”
“Why?”
“My cruel brother had them ripped off my back. Laughed as I crawled away from him. People want to act like I’m the monster, why don’t you ask Andy how many humans he has killed. I have never once killed a human. I leave them more human than they were before. I was made to be the villain, and stuffed into this desolate forest of thorns, but I make due with what I have. Stronger than he ever could be because I allow the pain to happen. Pain makes us more…human,” peering up into his minty green eyes, you lean your head to the side.
Jax didn’t fear, but he longed to be human. Wanted to feel the way a human did. “Humans love.”
“I have no love to give, Pip. It’s why I feed off their emotions; it's something real. Not this too long of a life that we are forced to live,” Jax was the second oldest faerie in the glen. Only his brother was older than him, and you wondered just how old he was. What he has seen in his life. What he has felt. Once upon a time Jax and Andy cohabited together.
“What do you do with them…”
“Would you want to feel it?” His grin turns devilish as his foot pushes your thighs apart. Staring at your core, “You’re curious,” heat radiates from you, and onto his foot. You were more than just curious. You are quaking with the need to feel it.
“It will hurt. You promised not to hurt me.”
“My word is as useless as dirt. But I assure you it’ll only hurt for a moment.”
“And then you throw me away just like your precious humans?” He runs his foot up through your center. Letting his warmth linger over your mound, and you tremble. You had never felt something quite like that before. Although it was familiar.
“I’d never throw you away, Pip. That’s a promise.”
“Your word is as useless as dirt.”
“This doesn’t feel good? Doesn’t it make you want and need my touch? Shake your head no at me, I can feel your pulse in between your legs. Just sit in my lap, and I’ll show you how good I can make you feel.”
“I have stipulations,” gulping, you look up at him. You did want to know what it felt like, but there is something you desire more. “I will, but I don’t want you inside me, and I want to know why Andy did that to you.”
“Not tonight, but I will tell you. In time. If you allow me to see all of you,” standing up, you knock off the shoulders of your dressing gown. Letting the thin material slide off your curves, and onto the floor. Bringing your arms up to cover your chest, but he shakes his head no, “I said all of you.”
Dropping your hands to the side, he lifts up his finger, twirling it around, asking you to do the same. Taking one step at a time, you turn around. Baring everything to him. Feeling his eyes trail up and down your body, you shudder. He was looking at you like his next meal, “My beautiful tiny Pipsqueak,” his? Your breathing speeds up as you turn back around to look at him.
“Now, let’s put you to bed, crawl back on my lap. I’ll give you the smallest taste of my sin,” your feet feel like lead as you put one in front of the other. Crawling onto his lap, and his thumb goes back to your vine. Sliding up and down it, while also dipping lower to your core. “I should have asked you to spread your legs. Maybe I could have seen where this leads to.”
“Is it me, my body, or the vines that I have no control over that you desire most?” Giving a bit of a smirk, Jax watches as the vines deepen, ridges sprout along it with every grind you do over his body. Your brain might not remember, but your body did. Craved him, and the friction.
“They’re changing,” he hums, finally looking up at you. “Does this mean your darkness is blooming? Or are you going to deny me again?” You sit silently, apart from your heavy breathing. Gripping onto his shoulders, you bare down even harder. Letting your body give into the temptation and pleasure as you pinch your eyes closed. Going outside of your mind for a moment.
Jax’s eyes flick over to the door, holding those blue eyes as he bends closer to your bouncing tits. Giving a smile before his mouth circles around your pebbled peak, and you mewl. Moving harder. Faster. Giving to him what he has wanted, while he watches the man conflicted.
Lee goes from glaring at Jax to watching your beautiful body writhe over him. The tent in his pants is painful, straining against his clothes. That should be him. You offered yourself up for Lee’s punishment, and yet, here he is still being punished. Always. Jax knew the hold that you had over Lee, and he tortured him with it.
“Let me enter inside of you, Pip!” He begs, moving his mouth to your other tit.
“Tell me about Andy,” his sucks turn into a bite, and you laugh. Leaning back, you rest your hands on his knees, letting him view your tattoo even closer. “Then look at what you will never have.”
He doesn’t even care about the tattoo, just your puffy cunt that was on his stomach. He growls out your name as you move to get up. “You have no power over me, Jax. We’re bonded, but you don’t own me. Lash at me, spank me, do whatever you need to in order to pay for Lee’s punishment. We’re done for the night.”
“I said in my bed!”
I was in your bed, and now I’m leaving to get some sleep. You can have all of me if you tell me about Andy,” Lee’s eyes flash bright blue before he steps back in the shadows. You didn’t need him right now. You were doing just fine on your own. “Let me take your pain.”
“I don’t want you to.”
“Then suffer alone,” you whisper, grabbing up your gown before walking back to your own bed. Glutton for punishment. Jax would never get over it, and with that came his suffering. His downfall. His own living hell.

Jakten, Chapter 1
Word Count: 4.1k

“And so, it was willed into the bylaws after the ancient first wars, that the five protectors of the forest seek the souls of five maidens. One from each of the districts to ensure we are kept safe in the time between. Every five years, like clockwork, and we are protected from the outer realms, as well as our own districts, as they are kept from collapse due to their sage wisdom and diplomacy. A human from the non-magical district of the capital, a were-creature from the shifters in the east, a magical body from the district along the Northern mountain ridge, a being from the land of the damned in the south, and a soul from the waters of the western tides,” the old harpy crooned. A few of the younger creatures ‘ohhhed’ and ‘awwed,’ while she stared around the room to the back of the tent, where the five guests of honor sat in varying stages of the acceptance that was their realities.
The human girl on one edge looked terrified. And the harpy could see into her mind’s eye that she had never come to the celebrations before. The festival. The lights. It almost looked to be all too much for her as she wildly looked around whatever one of the tents, she was placed in so that the spectators could glance at her. She had remembered seeing her on the first day of the festival, when she was brought into the capital. Her heavy, but well worn, ragged clothes that showed she was a mere survivor on the outskirts of the capital had been replaced by a fine silk white slip, the same as the other maidens, and while the servants of the capital had worked to ensure she was scrubbed clean, her skin seemed to have absorbed some of the dirt and coal from the area as she looked very akin to working in the fields for long periods of time. Her pale skin looked to have been rubbed nearly raw; so much so that it made her ginger hair look orange from it’s inflamed and reddened hue. And while she was petite, beside her was an even smaller creature.
A pixie. All four and a half feet of her was curled up in the seat, her large doe eyes staring back at the harpy as she waited for the story to continue. Her tight curls looked as though they were shaking as her fear pulsated through her. To her, the history of Jakten was an all too real horror story. While they mountainous ridge was vast, pixies usually stuck closer to the valleys, never going beyond the actual mountain and even less so into the forest where the districts joined together. The harpy found it almost comical; as the way she’d altered her slip was the most different from the rest of the maidens. The small pixie was abhorred by it, as pixies barely covered their own modesty, so she’d quickly taken a pair of shears to the slip until it looked like nothing more than tatters that were magically held upon her skin. But she could sense the anxiety that had been riding on her back, as the pixie now seemed to regret the act that she’d done just a few days ago. Since then all she’d received was jeers or harsh pinches to her darkened skin, as many of the drunken crowd had treated her like a woman of the night, which had caused a number of bruises, as pixies were horribly delicate.
In the middle was arguably the most striking of the five maidens. The siren. She somehow looked as though she were permanently wet, even while being dry. Her opalescent skin seemed to shimmer in the dark tent, which made the harpy believe that the poor girl stood no chance when she was going to be dropped in the forest. She may have stood a chance if she were a water nymph, but sirens needed to be near a water source, to maintain their body’s physiology. They couldn’t go more than a day without water. She would be the first one to die. The water creatures usually were, as they often had to stay by a water source, or at least close enough to one so that they could hold their form. She felt a pang in the pit of her belly as she wondered how far the guards would drop them from a source, and if she’d even make it that long, as she hadn’t made many appearances within the celebrations due to her need for water. She’d spent most of her time in the water district’s quarters, alone.
Beside her though was probably her one saving grace. If the siren were smart, she’d team up with the were-phoenix, who could heal her if she was too far from water. The harpy had sighed to herself. It was horrible luck for the were-creatures in the lottery for this Jakten, as the phoenix was treasured and rare. And yet she was the one that had been chosen. A few of the other creatures offered to take her place, but ever true to the characteristics of her own kind, she wouldn’t allow them, instead reminding them that stealing the honor of serving her district would shame her greatly.
The young phoenix was short for a were-creature, especially for a phoenix, who normally towered closer to the vampire’s height. At 5’3” she was a thin, almost wiry looking Asiatic woman, with glowing skin and fiery red hair. She held her head high as she watched the harpy with calm eyes. She was quiet, but seemed like she had a plan going from the moment she walked into the capital, and a little part of the aged woman wondered if she’d be the first to survive the protectors as she’d be a valuable asset to them.
And lastly, on the other end, was the creature from the land of the damned. A vampire. While the harpy had noted that there was nothing exceedingly special about this maiden aside from her model like figure, which wasn’t uncommon for a vampire, she was still surprised, as the land of the damned usually offered up a witch or another ‘lesser’ species. It was rare that they gave up a vampire, the dominant creature of that land. The maiden watched the harpy with curiosity, as Jakten, didn’t scare her. She could sense a darkness in her, through her mind’s eye that made her want to distance herself. The harpy found it ironic that the vampire was the district’s sacrifice for this Jakten. Thunter becoming the hunted.
She gestured back, drawing the attention of those who came to hear the story to the women, “the five maidens. From the capital, the human. Cara. From the mountain’s ridge, the pixie. Ouli. From the western tides, the siren. Aexie. From the shifters of the east, the were-phoenix. Caihong. And from the land of the damned, a vampire. Genevive.”
The younger creatures looked back at the five maidens who were seated in luxurious chairs. Many of the children turned to stare at them, while others merely looked back to the harpy, as though they were waiting for more of the story. But that was it. There was no further tale to tell for her as the boom of the fireworks sent the smaller children running outside, while the pixie jumped in her seat. The vampire maiden laughed upon seeing her reaction, while the human glared at her. The pixie’s eyes watered, and the human’s hand rubbed small circles over her nearly glittering skin as she began to shrink in size, “i-it’s okay. It’s just the fireworks. I-I think. Just like the other nights.”
She bit her lip, nodding along to show that she understood, but said nothing. Pixies didn’t often speak to anyone outside of their own species, let alone humans. When they did usually do such, it was to barter their knowledge for things that they needed. Her wings disappeared but she continued to stay tucked into her chair, leaning more towards the human maiden as she continued to comfort her.
From the other side of the siren, the phoenix was glaring at the vampire, “you don’t need to laugh at her. She’s scared! Show some compassion.”
“Her kind are so jumpy,” the vampire commented with a laugh as she eyed her down. She looked at the smallest in the group who had begun to shrink again at the glower of the vampire, “you won’t survive through the night, little fairy. You or your butterfly wings. I bet the immortals rip them from your frail body and then pick their teeth with them once they’ve picked you to the bone.”
“Pixies aren’t fairies,” the siren sneered, finally looking to the vampire. Her own scowl was partially covered by her nearly silver, white hair flowing around her body as though it were waves, pushed by some invisible force. The vampire recognized it as an intimidation tactic. She’d seen it the past few days as the little pixie hid behind the other women when the vampire picked at her, “they are very different.”
“You’re very heartless to her,” the human commented, “you have been all week. She’s in the same boat as the rest of us. Why you torment her is beyond me? She’s smaller than all of us. Leave her be.”
“Little pixie will lie to you,” the vampire warned the human softly, “don’t fall for her traps. Otherwise, she’ll likely use her magic until the immortals are picking you clean to the bone while she flees.”
“Oh yeah, like you don’t want to just drain her? Bet you wish you could just drain the life out of the human right now” the phoenix scoffed, “you leeches are all the same. Stop playing mind games. The little pixie is just as scared as the rest of us.”
“Speak for yourself,” the vampire scoffed, crossing her arms, “pixies trick people. At least their fairy cousins look human and help others. My sister was tricked by a pixie. It almost killed her.”
The human maiden removed her hand from the pixie’s arm. The pixie looked at the human, and her pointed ears dropped slightly. With a heavy sigh her wings came forward out of her skin, and she wrapped her wings around herself as if to create her own little cocoon.
“Well, your sister must have been awfully stupid to almost die from a pixie,” the siren laughed, insulting the vampire, “next I suppose you’ll claim that humans are dangerous.”
“Humans are food,” she retorted, rolling her eyes, “sirens too. So, I’d stay out of my business if I were you, little mermaid. You’re nothing more than a meal to me.”
“There you go again,” the siren growled, rolling her eyes at the vampire, “you know, maybe if you were nicer to the pixie, she’d shower you with enough intelligence to be able to tell a pixie from a fairy and a mermaid from a siren. We are all different creatures, you lecherous quim.”
“You know,” the harpy sighed, stepping off her stage. She made her way to the back of the now empty tent where the five maidens were sat, her cane clicking along beside her, “if the five maidens ever got along for once and utilized their combined powers together, they may have a shot at getting out of the forest…I’ve been alive a long time…long enough to see this exact scene play out a thousand times. By the time you are dropped off tomorrow eve, you will all be at one another’s throats! If you were to work together-”
“They offer me nothing. I will not lug them around like the dead weight they are.”
The phoenix glared at the vampire, “the only dead weight is you. I hope they pick you clean first. That way we’ll have a head start. You’d probably try to suck us all dry otherwise.”
“Y-You can’t…she can’t do that,” the human maiden began, “c-can she?”
“You’re just about the only one she could leech off of,” the siren smirked, “the were-phoenix is smart, and I can see the vial strapped to her inner wrist of were-cobra venom. She would poison her before she got close enough and pixie blood is lethal to vampires.”
“W-what about you?”
“She’s stupid, but not enough to try to actually bite me,” the siren smirked, looking to the vampire, “no vampire would take a siren’s blood without their permission.”
“Why not?”
“Because we’d curse them more than they already are.”

The carts travelled slowly. At least for the past hour it felt like it. They had been in the carts for a majority of the day and a half, stopping a few times to go to the bathroom or take breaks, but mainly traveling at a faster pace. Even for the faster creatures like the vampire or if the phoenix flew, it’d take them a full two days of running or flying.
The unfortunate dark tunnels mirrored how the girls felt. Lost, and without any idea of where they were. But that was the point. The journey was made under the lands so that the maidens would have no familiarity with them, nor would they truly be able to tell where they were dropped. As the carts finally stopped along the tracks, nearly a day and a half later, the women were both exhausted and confused.
They hadn’t acquired much sleep, as they had been whisked away to the mine after the fireworks, and the carts would jostle them harshly. Nor did any of them really have an appetite.
They unloaded the carts slowly, each one with their district leader. They were lead up a railed platform that looked like a hollow tube. The district’s markings were etched in a heavy metal above them.
The porthole.
“As is tradition, you are to be dropped in the center of the lands, in the dark forest as a sacrifice to the first five, the immortals who protect us all,” the officiant began, reading off the scroll he carried. The five maidens glanced to one another with bated breaths. He continued, “so it has been since the beginning of times, that five maidens were to be offered up. A human from the capital in the north-west, a magical being from the northern mountain ridge, a shifter from the east, a soul from the land of the damned in the south, and a maiden from the waters of the western tides. The rules are as follows…”
“Rules?”
“Yes,” the older man nodded, looking away from his scroll, “there are no rules that state you must stay together, nor are there any rules stating that you must split. However you feel is most necessary to your survival you may do so. You are dropped into the center of the forest. Around the center, the five castles of the immortals stand. Much like the districts, each one protects a domain. The first vampire reigns over the land of the damned, the king of the were-bears over the shifters, the king of the fae over the northern ridge, the golem over the western tides, and he who hides in the shadows over the capital district. However, this does not mean that you will avoid one if you aim to go towards your own district.”
“Wh-what do you mean?” the human maiden asked. She looked between the leaders and the officiant, “w-what does that mean, sir?”
“You are from the capital,” he pointed out, looking away from his scroll, “but that is not to say that you will not run into the first vampire or the king of bears if you head towards your district. Just as none are guaranteed to run into any others.”
“Bu-“
“I do not have time for your questions, capital human” the man growled, looking to the human. His elven ears twitched from beneath his cap and the pixie bowed her head. Elves were one of the few creatures that could survive any of the districts and were often picked to run the mines beneath the land with the dwarves. They were also notorious for their short-tempers and use of magic to get people to bend to their wills. Upon seeing the pixie bow, the elven man scoffed. He turned his attention to the leaders of the five districts who had come with their maidens, “We will unseal the porthole, and send the five maidens up. What happens beyond that point will be a matter of their own devices. In the time of one week, if any of these five women should come to your districts, they will be welcomed, as that is the five telling us that they have been spared and blessed. If any are returned, then not only will the home district be spared for the next lottery, but so will the receiving district. All who receive their maidens will be greatly showered with gifts and fortunes. Is that understood and accepted by all districts?”
The five leaders nodded, accepting the rule.
“Only the five maidens may enter the forest,” the elven man reminded everyone, “any outside interference is subject to death by the five, and that does not mean that they would be accepting the place of the maiden. They are not the merciful kind!”
Once again, another round of agreement. The five maidens looked to their home district leaders.
“Do you have any words to speak?”
“I will buy what time I can,” the vampire whispered softly as she looked to the pixie, “I can smell one lurking nearby, already. It’s not the vampire or bear.”
The human looked at her, confused, “W-what?”
“Run the opposite way as me,” she commanded her, looking at the pixie who held her hand, “do you understand, Ouli?”
She nodded and reached out, placing her hand to the vampire’s cheek, “You. Good. May feet guide you to mercy.”
With the flick of a switch, they were soon beginning to rise to the forest, the opening allowing them all to see that it was early evening. Before the platform could stop, true to her word, the vampire jumped up and instantly began to run away from the group.
“What was that?” The phoenix asked the pixie.
“I took pain!”
“D-did the vampire do something to you?” Cara asked quickly, exposing both sides of the pixie’s neck, “a-are you okay, Ouli?”
“Fine. We go!”
“Good riddance to her. Whatever you promised her,” the siren huffed, her eyes glimmering under the upcoming moonlight, “I must find water…I soaked up most of what was in the cart I was in, and I will not be able to stay out much longer than daylight.”
“The harpy was right,” the human said softly, quick to grab the siren by the wrist, “We stand a better chance if we stick together…the vamp-Genevive sacrificed herself so that we have a head start from whatever was after us. Just let us come with you…we will watch while you refresh yourself. And we can rest in turns.”
“Us?”
The human nodded, holding up the hand of the pixie, Ouli, who was nervously looking around, “We will come with you.”
“What about you?” she asked the phoenix, “Are you aiming to be like the vampire and suddenly become all self-righteous or will you stick with us.”
“I know that I am beneficial to all of us…but I have to cover my scent,” she admitted softly, “I-as a phoenix, my scent will only draw those who have a stronger nose, like the first vampire and the king of bears…”
“H-how do we do that?”
“I know ways,” the pixie offered up, biting her lip as she spoke. Her ability to speak a language that they understood was broken at best, but they appreciated her efforts. They knew that pixies were generally a nervous folk who didn’t go out of their way to interact with anyone and had learned that over the previous days. The three other women looked to the smallest of the group as she began to grab whatever dirt she could, “s-start to gather… from ground…can pull and rub it. Cover until we reach…the floosh.”
She began to grab dirt from the ground and quickly spread it around the phoenix’s arms and slip, but was also sure to alternate so that she was getting muddied up as well, “What are you doing little pixie?”
“She’s combining everyone’s scents,” the siren smiled at the intelligent little being who worked furiously, stopping every once in a while to sniff certain parts of her. If she was satisfied, she moved onto another part, but if she could still scent her, she added more to her, “she’s not only mixing your scent into the earth, but hers as well. Little pixie will you do that to us as well? I can see your magic coating her skin.”
She nodded quickly and grabbed each of the women’s hands, kissing the knuckles before handing them piles of dirt, leaves, and greenery to rub themselves with, “we quickly. Shifter…you tell if…hear? Yes?”
The phoenix nodded at the little pixie, who had mostly covered her in dirt, and lifted herself with her wings to put leaves and sticks in her hair.
When it was finished, she shrank until she was the size of a bar of soap and shot into the air.
“Where did she go?”
“There,” the shifter pointed. She was just above the tree line, spinning furiously, “she’s scouting.”
And just as quickly, she was beside them once more, “we go…this way floosh.”
“Floosh?” The siren asked.
She nodded, imitating a wave the ‘floosh’ noise was the crashing of a wave, “floosh.”
“Water!”
She nodded again hurriedly, grabbing the hand of the human, and pulling her in the opposite direction of the vampire.
“Pixie, d-did you see the vampire the other way?”
She nodded even more nervously, “maiden run…large man chase. Five!”
“T-the five are already out? Sh-she wasn’t lying?”
The human had stopped in her tracks, forcing the pixie to stop as well. She kept trying to pull her hand, “clear path. Floosh. Cannot stop. Please! C-Cara. Trust Ouli!”
“Human we will argue later,” the siren said, coming back to the woman. She grabbed her hand, “pixie. Take us to the floosh.”
“Safe. Floosh.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She ran as fast as she could before the platform even stopped. She’d managed to speak to the little pixie in the moments before they were loaded on the carts. But now, she could smell that he was close by, whatever he was, and she hoped that by running off, he’d ignore the others so that she could get a head start for them.
Stupid maidens.
But it was the least that she could do. After what Ouli had done for her. Her younger sister would be safe.
They couldn’t smell him like she could.
He was gaining on her. She could smell the earthiness to his scent. Like warmed clay and fresh cut grass. Rain after a long drought. She couldn’t hear a heartbeat, but she could feel his power surging through her like a bolt of electricity. The earth felt heavy as she ran, almost as if it were working against her.
But that’s all the distraction it took.
And then when his firm body hit hers, stopping her motion, it was like being run over by a freight train.
“W-what are you?” she asked nervously as she looked at his figure looming over her own. If her heart beat any longer, she would have gone into cardiac arrest at the nervousness of the giant before her. The creature was easily 6’3” of corded muscle. He wore a thick leather vest across his broad shoulders. Scars lined his neck and jaw, and went across the firm musculature of his shoulders, but they were aged in a way that meant that they had to have been there for decades.
“You are mine, little vampire,” he responded simply, “worry not what I am, other than your new master.”
She fumbled back on her back as he reached towards her, lifting her with a strength that she couldn’t even begin to fathom. As his large hand wrapped around her throat, her eyes widened. Just a single hand had managed to wrap entirely around her throat. She tried to force herself to swallow, but she could barely shift. She was losing oxygen fast. She didn’t need it to survive, but without it, she would pass out. Her nails scratched as his large hands to no avail. The last thing that she noticed before the darkness came to take her away was how his silver eyes stared at her with the faintest traces of curiosity.

same anon that sent in Lonely!Orc!Bucky or Fae!Jefferson, I don't blame you Jefferson is one of my comfort characters too! Is there another character fave or yours that could even come close to him?
Ooooooooh, okay, so I feel like there should be an explanation here. 😅 Cause, yeah, there are a couple of fave characters who definitely come close to Jefferson. Bucky is one of the top ones and it might have been more difficult to decide, but as soon as I read the word breeding, my mind just goes…

Otherwise, the characters that come close to Jefferson are Bucky Barnes (like I said), Lee Bodecker, Jake Jensen, and Steve Rogers and Mr. Freezy.

Jakten, Chapter 5
Word Count: 3k
Warnings: mentions of war, torture, blood/bite marks, mentions of murder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The black eyes.
Teeth as sharp as razors.
As Bucky felt himself losing consciousness, he wondered if this was how he was going to be taken out. By a western tides maiden during Jakten He’d managed to survive almost a thousand years, and this was going to be his end…a siren. With a few heavy breaths he watched as her deep eyes peered over the ledge at him. Gone were the demonic features that usually appeared after she took a victim.
She was an image of beauty once more.
He blinked and she was pulling herself out of the water. Bucky pushed himself back up against the tree he leaned on, as if that would stop her progression. As if that would somehow make her pause, but she continued on towards him.
He blinked again and she was gliding towards him. An image of beauty. One that he swore he could fall in love with. Had she not just tried to murder him. But in all fairness, he had planned on draining her, so he couldn’t be particularly upset with her tactics.
He blinked once more and she was suddenly in front of him, crouched. Her delicate hands reached out to touch his face as he tried to push them away.
“You tried to kill me, vampire.”
“I-“
“Don’t waste your breath,” she muttered softly, “do you know what a siren does when they kill? The little details that we don’t tell others?”
Bucky shook his head in a daze. “No.”
“We feed on their memories,” she replied sweetly, brushing some of the wet hair from Bucky’s face. She pushed it behind his ear, and she brushed her nose against his delicately, “we make love to them, and we feed on them. Their life force. Their essence. All of them. The term, life flashing before your eyes…it originated from us. Are you ready to figure out what lies at the end of the road, immortal one?”
She didn’t wait for a response. Instead, she leaned forward and pressed her silken lips on his. And everything faded to black.
“STOP!” The redheaded girl wailed, “please. STOP!”
Bucky ran as fast as his lithe form would take him through the forest. His quiver and bow rested on his back as he ran towards his friends screaming voice. He felt anxiety in the pit of his stomach as he wondered why he only heard Natasha. Where was Steve?
Surely, his human companion would be fighting whatever was in the village, but he should be able to hear Steve. He was an accomplished swordsman and sorcerer after all. But when he reached the edge of the village his heart nearly stopped. Most of the men were dead, and as he neared Natasha and Steve’s home, he saw Steve. His lifeless blue/green eyes staring towards the door.
It was as though he knew in his last moments that Bucky would somehow find him, and he wanted to point him in the direction of his most treasured possessions, his wife and two infant children.
“Natasha?”
His voice echoed in the eerie quiet of the normally joyful home. Bucky’s heart hurt just thinking of how he knew it would never be the same, his best mortal friend slain at it’s entrance.
“Natasha!”
Bucky scoured the rooms. Just as he was to reach for the bedroom door, a shock went through his lower spine, paralyzing him. As he fell backwards, he heard the noise on the other side of the door, letting him know that Natasha was safe. The blue glow from the door evidence enough as it interacted with the green magic that wrapped around him.
Steve’s final act was putting a protection spell over his wife and children.
But that wasn’t what had gotten him. No, the green magic was not Steve’s.
“He’s not a villager here,” a new voice began. Bucky’s eyes fell away from the door, and while he couldn’t move his head, in his peripherals, he could see dark cloaks. The smell of sage and teakwood burned through his nostrils. He knew that smell anywhere, and ever since he was a young elf, he’d been warned to stay away from it, “but he is friends with the Rogers…I’ve seen him on the forest’s edge.”
Witches.
“Friend you say??” another voice asked, “Jawvin, bring the dark elf. We may be able to use him to break Rogers’ spell. His wife won’t come out. She knows it’s her only protection now that he’s dead.”
An orc appeared before him, wrapping his arms in a cord, and then doing the same to his feet. Bucky swallowed. When had orcs ever been willing to help witches? Bucky was dragged by his feet out of his friend’s home. Over Steve’s barely cold body. And down along the town square. His own eyes met his fallen friends when they pulled him over Steve, causing his head to turn, and Bucky’s own body to twist so he was being dragged on his stomach instead of his back. He watched Steve’s dead eyes, wondering if that would be his fate soon enough.
He prayed that it wouldn’t.
Aexie pulled away from the vampire’s resting form. Right about now would be when a siren would dip back into their victim’s form, either snapping their neck or ripping out their throats, then bathing in their blood, but there was something about him. Something that tore at her, not allowing her to finish what she’d started.
She took a minute just staring at his form. He’d looked very different now than how he did in his memory. Her eyes were wide as she backed away just enough to look into his dazed steely eyes. She cupped his face in her hands, “What are you?”
“What?” he asked softly, opening his eyes. He was slurring his words as though he was drunk, “you didn’t think a vampire was a natural creature…did you?”
“Y-you were a dark elf from the forest,” she replied nervously, scanning his features. That’s when she noticed the point to his ears, the pallor wasn’t that of a vampire. It was from a dark elf from the forest, “b-but how?”
“You-you’re beautiful, little siren,” he whispered, reaching out to her. She swatted his hand away, but he continued to try to reach her in his dazed stupor, “you are so beautiful. I wish I could keep you forever, little siren.”
She snapped her fingers, drawing his attention back to her. His eyes snapped to her hand. Then to her face. She grabbed his jaw, holding him there, “how did you become a vampire?”
“They broke Steve’s spell,” he said pitifully. His face twisted into one that looked like he was in pain as he seemed to be thinking back on the day, “because they took the purity that was left from me. From our relationship…and instead of killing me, it gave me all the bad. It broke the spell, but it gave me the poison that was hidden within it. It damned my soul.”
She sighed. Aexie leaned forward and used her magic to clear the wound she’d created. Then on her hands and knees she backed away from the immortal vampire. Slowly, she began making her way back to the water. She couldn’t kill him.
He wasn’t truly a damned soul. It wasn’t his burden that he should have had to bear. He was forced into it.
As she wiped the blood from her mouth, she got other small images. When he was a young elf and he’d been captured by humans. He’d been beaten and whipped. Steve was but a child, but he helped him escape. She saw as he watched his best friend find Natasha, and the two of them became a trio. Three musketeers, getting into trouble in the forest. Learning how to hunt from Bucky. Steve teaching them how to use swords. Natasha showing them both how to make food. The three of them beneath the stars.
Her heart broke for him.
“Thought you were going to kill me, little siren,” he whimpered from his spot at the tree. His eyes kept trying to focus on her, but he couldn’t. He was still far too weak, “aren’t you going to end my damnation?”
“Death doesn’t deserve you, vampire,” she whispered calmly, slinking back into the water, “I think I’d much rather prefer to play with you myself.”
“Is that so, siren?”
“Aexie,” she replied, disappearing into the water, “we’re past our designations now, Bucky. You may call me by my name, as I shall call you by yours.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A phoenix.
Lee’s adrenaline went into overtime as he chased her. He could see the trails of fire she’d left when she’d gotten too close to a tree or the ground. And while he wasn’t sure if she was doing it on purpose, he didn’t necessarily care. Just seeing the singed nature was good enough proof that he wasn’t wrong. That there really was a treasure amongst the Jakten maidens. And he was going to get her. His bear was bounding after her, loudly roaring through the forest.
He could feel her scent was still fresh around him as his large paws dug into the dirt and mud of the forest floor. And it was driving him wild. And then the streaks of fire stopped. The singed trees and bushes were no more. The torn-up ground was perfect.
Lee’s paws skittered around on the forest floor as he tried to stop his frame on a dime and smell for her. But he couldn’t smell her any longer. Her scent was hidden again. Lee shifted and looked to the sky. There was some fire along the branches. He shifted back to his human form and punched at a nearby tree, his claws coming out and slashing wildly at the bark.
“FUCK!”
He growled, knowing that meant that she got tired of playing with him and had flown above the tree line.
“Looking for someone?”
Lee’s eyes shot to another tree that was near him. Sitting, perched in it was Caihong. Lee’s eye’s lit up. She was beautiful.
And naked. The only thing covering her was her bright red hair and dirt that she’d rubbed on herself to disguise her scent. Lee licked his lips as he stared at the beautiful woman above him. His breath hitched.
“You’re the phoenix.”
“And you’re the protector of the shifters,” she commented boldly, looking down at the werebear, “king of the bears.”
“You can call me Alpha Lee.”
“I want to strike a deal for safe passage.”
“You’re a phoenix,” he pointed out with a smirk. He licked his lips once more, “I think you know that there isn’t a deal that you can make for safe passage…I very much plan on keeping you, phoenix. I’m sure that you know just how rare you are.”
“My name is Caihong, and the deal is not for me.”
Lee’s brow raised, “the ones that you were with? You want to strike a deal for them?”
She nodded, “a human…her name is Cara. And a pixie by the name of Ouli.”
“You live up to your kind’s personality traits,” Lee chuckled softly, “it’s most admirable that hasn’t been bred out of the phoenix line.”
She shrugged, “do we have a deal?”
“I can promise the safety of the human,” Lee admitted shortly, “but I cannot promise the pixie’s safety.”
Her brows furrowed, “What do you mean?”
“The human is from a line that was protected by the golem,” he told her openly, “if you come down I could tell you all about it. I could probably even take you to her, assuming that the other two have found her by now.”
“The other two?”
“If you come down, I promise to tell you all about them, my sweet phoenix.”
She quirked her brow at him and looked him over. He was an attractive bear of a man. And while she had been perched above him in the trees, she knew that he was probably at least six foot four. His naked form was large and stocky. And while it was common for shifters to often walk around nude, she found herself blushing when she passed the soft roundness in his belly, as a large appendage swung between his legs when he moved.
“Eyes are up here, sweetheart,” he chuckled, leaning back against a tree opposite her, allowing her a new angle that made him seem even bigger. She averted her gaze and he chuckled more to himself, “aww, what, don’t go bein shy on me, sweetheart.”
“I don’t trust you, Lee.”
“Alpha Lee.”
“I don’t trust you, Lee,” she repeated firmly, finally managing to look back to the king of the shifters. Lee noticed her wings come out as she partially shifted, “you say that the human is already protected?”
“Nick, the golem was in charge of her family’s line. He’s already negotiated with us for her safety,” Lee said quickly, giving her the information that she wanted in hopes that it would help her opinion of him and allow her to trust him. He knew that if she flew away, there was little chance of any of them really capturing her, “will you please come down? I won’t hurt you, sweetheart. I promise.”
“No.”
Lee’s brows furrowed, “No?”
“No,” she smiled, crossing her arms, “I said that I want the safety of the pixie and the human. I know how valuable I am…and I know that you know that too.”
Lee’s jaw clenched. She was right. Phoenix shifters were beyond valuable. He couldn’t remember offhand when he’d seen one past the time when they were rounded up and used for personal gain. But he did know that in the modern day, phoenix shifters were often spoiled by anyone that came across them, and they were now viewed as a good luck symbol.
“I can’t promise that. I have no way of getting ahold of the others…”
“Well then, you better work on it, Lee. Because you won’t see me come down until you do.”
And before he could argue she shifted and shot into the air, leaving Lee at a loss for words.

Ouli felt chilled to the bone as she ran. The forest was dark, and she didn’t know where she was going. But as she looked to the stars, she noticed that Cara wasn’t near her. Her eyes went wide and, in a panic, she looked around, searching. Her wings came out and glittered under the moon so that she could try to get more lighting to see the human.
But she was nowhere to be found.
Her nervousness reached a fever pitch as she turned in a circle.
They’d already lost the vampire. And the siren. And the phoenix. She’d promised her that she’d lead the human to the mountains. To freedom.
“CARA!”
Her voice echoed through the forest. A light wind breezed through her wings, and she felt the fear send a shiver up her spine as it only grew. There was no one with her. She was alone. Cara was alone.
Her breathing got heavier as she started running. She didn’t even know the direction that she was headed in, and it almost didn’t seem to matter anymore. For as scared as she was, the only thing that seemed worse than being alone was the eerie and empty woods around her.
Ouli had never been fearful of forests before. She was a pixie. Her people loved the forest. But as she continued to run, the trees seemed much more imposing. Their branches losing their leaves as the wood twisted and turned, shifting into dark shadows that chased her.
And before she knew it, she’d tripped over a root. She went face first into the dirt. Scrambling up, she flipped, wanting to scream. But her voice had left her. Another shiver went up Ouli’s spine, sending goosebumps up and down her arms as she skittered back against a tree, a set of haunting silver eyes appearing in the darkness across from her.
A Cheshire grin appearing moments after as the scream finally managed to tear itself from her throat.
“OULI!”
Ouli shot off of Cara’s shoulder, her tiny form shaking as she spun in circles, looking for the silver eyes and smile that shook her to her core. Cara tried to grasp at the small pixie as she shot around her, but she was too slow. It only took a matter of seconds until she was covered in pixie dust and sneezing up a storm as she tried to calm the terrified little pixie down
“OULI. You’re safe. You’re safe.”
Ouli only stopped moving when she turned once more and was met with Cara. She grew until she was the size comparable to Cara, and fell into her arms, sobbing, “Cara…Cara safe. Lost. Lost Cara.”
“You didn’t lose me. It was only a bad dream, I promise,” she cooed, brushing away the curls from the scared pixie’s face, “w-we’re okay…I found a castle.”
Cara turned her around so that she could see the castle hidden from the dark of the rest of the forest. She looked to the stars. They were North enough that it definitely wasn’t the human’s protector…but she could sense the magic. She knew that it belonged to the king of the fae. She knew who’s castle it was.
“We can stay here for a while,” she assured her, “they’ll probably still be searching out in the forest…”
“Cara…not safe.”
“We will be…just for a few seconds,” Cara begged, pulling the pixie along with her to Lance’s castle, “maybe there is something we can eat or take with us that will help.”
“No…no Cara.”
“Ouli…please.”
The pixie looked nervously at the human, unsure on how to tell her what exactly owned the castle. She sighed, allowing Cara to pull her along until they passed through the doors of Lance’s castle.
What they didn’t know was that, both Lance and Jefferson were both watching them eagerly in the forest, having tracked them from Ouli’s nightmare.
“This is almost too easy,” Lance commented, slapping Jefferson on the shoulder, “once she takes something, she’ll be mine…and then the little pixie is all yours…you know…unless he takes something too.”
Jefferson sneered at the fae, “my little pixie won’t take anything, don’t you worry. She’s too smart to fall for one of your traps.”

Jakten, Chapter 2
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: mentions of death/murder, body insecurities, mentions of drinking blood, violence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I am laying claim upon the maiden from the land of the damned.” Nick said in a low voice as he passed through the camp that the five of the immortals had set up as their ‘base of operations.’ They noticed the maiden hanging limply from over his shoulder as though she were a sack of potatoes. Bucky, sensing she was a vampire, stared at the golem, “What is it, Bucky?”
He said nothing, but rather, the king of the fae was the one to speak up, “Is she even still alive?”
Nick glared at Lance, who smiled cheekily at him from his spot amongst the fire, “puny fae. I would not kill her. Not when she sacrificed herself so willingly.”
“She sacrificed herself?”
This piqued the fae’s interests. It wasn’t normal for a vampire to be in the forest during Jakten, and their kind was not known for their particular ‘generosity’ of other’s lives.
“Since when did you go for the easy kill?” Bucky scoffed trying to make it seem as though he didn’t care. The golem didn’t respond, and Bucky began narrowing his eyes at him as his own interest piqued, “why my district? You usually you go for the shifter blood!”
“Switch,” Nick shrugged, not really caring to be part of the conversation any further, “you like water folk. Lee? You care?”
Anyone good this Jakten?” Lee asked cheerfully, happy at the chance to be included where the others normally just ignored him once the real fun started. Lance rolled his eyes at the were-bear.
“Do you ever think of anything other than eating?”
“Who said I was asking which ones were available to eat?”
“You’re always eating, shifter!”
“The human from the capital,” Nick replied in a gruff voice, “she is not for eating. She is under my protection. Her line. From centuries ago.”
“I thought you said that line died out.”
“Guess not.”
This time it was Lee that narrowed his eyes at the golem. He walked over to him and patted his firm chest, “sure you don’t just feel something for the girl from the capital? Getting soft as the clay you were molded from, golem?”
“Not soft. You soft” he growled, turning around and slapping the well-fed bear’s stomach with the back of his hand, “under protection. If you don’t claim her, let go. Or I will kill you. Will not fail the line now. Not again.”
“And if one of us decides to claim her?” the fae smiled, the fire seemingly catching some of his features and making them appear more sinister, “would they gain any…favors?”
“No death from me,” he grunted in response, before turning on his heel, “Must drop little vampire to room before she wakes.”
Everyone looked at Bucky curiously.
“What? I usually take his tribute from the waters,” he said with a shrug, “though I am very surprised that they’ve put a vampire in this year. That, in itself is a curiosity to me.”
Nick huffed, “I will not harm. She-she has the pain I need to take away. Want. Want for keep.”
“Nick you’ve existed for centuries,” Jefferson chuckled, pushing himself from a tree by the edge. He brushed the dirt off of the elegant looking hunting jacket as he stepped forward towards the rest of the men, “stop acting like a caveman every Jakten. For god’s sake.”
“Come on, you mad hatter, the clay man here can’t help it,” Lance laughed licking his lips excitedly, “it’s the hormones from the maidens. It turns the art project soft because all the blood rushes somewhere else.”
“I could kill you, faerie boy.”
“Faerie king,” he smirked, putting his charming grin back on his face as he stood, “but you won’t. Because I’m going to help you out, you ugly little ogre. I’m going to lay claim to your little human. And I’ll make sure that your meaningless little life has a line to defend once more. Who will the rest of you go for?”
“The western tide maiden. She is mine, as always,” Bucky said calmly. It was normal for the vampire to go after the western tide maiden. Unlike a majority of his spawn, Bucky was immune to the lethal blood of a mermaid and would get drunk off of the blood of a siren or a water nymph, “they have the sweetest blood. By now she should be close to the water, that is if she has the common sense to go towards it rather than wither away. I’m off to hunt on my own, dear friends.”
And with that, the vampire departed from the group of men, leaving Nick with his own prize, and Lance, Lee, and Jefferson standing by the camp.
“I sense great fear in one of them,” Jefferson said shortly as he pulled out a knife to clean. And though he tried to sound calm and unimpressed the other men noted the excitement in his voice, “I shall claim that one.”
“I don’t smell the shifter,” Lee admitted, an air of excitement in his own tone. If the others hadn’t known better they would have guessed he was a wolf with how devious his features looked, and how his eyes held the slightest of a silvery glow as he was becoming feral with the prospect of a good hunt on his hands, “which means that she has already hid her scent.”
“This is shaping up to be a fun Jakten, boys,” Lance grinned, clapping his friends on the back, “now…how will we track them?”
“I’m ready to run,” Lee chuckled, unbuttoning his dark tunic. He pulled it off and held it in his hands, ready for the action. The men rolled their eyes at the bear. That was always his first response. To snack or to run through the forest for a snack, “What?”
“Do you ever use your brain instead of your instinct?” Lance asked as Lee’s shirt hit the floor, “you know, for as much snacking as you do, I’m surprised there are any creatures still left in the forest.”
Lee glared at the fae king as Jefferson eyed the round of his belly, “do you ever have a nice word to say?”
“Not to you,” he smirked, looking back to him, “you know what…maybe you should run…run the excess weight off before your snack sees you looking less like a bear and more like a whale out of water.”
Lee bared his canines at the fae and he chuckled. Jefferson rolled his eyes at the normal exchange between the magical being and the shifter. Lance, if nothing else, was always sure to poke fun at anyone that gave him the opportunity. Jefferson walked over to the bench and sat on it, his gaze fixating on the fire as he tried to focus on pulling out the fear, “I’m going to wait until they fall asleep to start tracking mine…I can sense the exhaustion in the forest. The air is just as thick with it as it is the fear.”
“Do you taste the exhaustion in the air, golem?” the fae asked teasingly, “or can you only taste clay right now, since your blood is running elsewhere?”
Nick growled at the faerie, “I’m done with the hunt. You men enjoy your Jakten. And remember, Tucker, if you harm my human, I will slit the magic from your throat and enjoy watching every second of it fading back into the forest floor...and then there will be only four protectors.”
And with that, he continued to the edge of the camp, and towards his castle, which wasn’t far away. By the time he’d arrived, she was starting to shift in his arms. Moving quickly, he placed her down in the holding cell where the previous women he would capture had been kept if he decided not to eat them immediately. The area was dark, but would provide her a comfortable atmosphere to wake up in. The fixtures like the bed and nightstand were all bolted down to ensure they couldn’t be moved or used against him.
As he tucked her into the bed, she shifted once more, letting go a small whimper. Nick felt his heart soften at the pain she was pushing out from herself. While he was a golem, he was able to feed off of whatever his master had told him. And unfortunately, the last command before they had perished was to destroy until there was nothing left, as he was dying. As his line was dying. So, for centuries, he fed off of the pain. Jakten, combined with the straggling line of lost travelers had managed to keep him satiated.
And with her…he felt so much. It was almost dizzying to him, like someone had slipped him too many drinks.

“We can’t just leave her, Aexie.”
“I need to get to water,” she growled in response as she turned towards the rest of the women. Her patience had faded along with the moisture in her skin. It had begun to dry out, and while she still looked damp, they all knew that she would not last much longer, “the lot of you can do what you wish…but I must look out for myself first, as the phoenix has refused to revitalize me.”
“If I do, then he’ll be aware of me,” Caihong sighed, tears coming to her eyes, “I’m sorry…but both the vampire and were-bear are still out here, and we know that they’ve got advanced senses of smell and hearing. The man of the shadows and the fae would be the fastest to find us once we are made aware. If they are hunting together as we are hiding together, than I would be a beacon to them, and we’ll all be dead before we made it anywhere.”
“Ouli…show us where Genevieve is.”
“Floosh!” she replied firmly as she pointed ahead. She was trying to help Aexie, even though she knew she would only be able to help as much as leading her to the water. When Cara tried to get her to stop, she shook her head and tried to Pull on Cara’s arm to lead her where they had originally planned to go.
But Cara shook her head, “no. No Floosh. Vampire.”
To drive the point home, she put her hands in front of her, pointing her index fingers out and opening her mouth so she looked like a vampire ready to attack. Ouli squeaked and hid behind Caihong, obviously afraid of the gesture. Aexie gave her a look, “good job, Cara.”
“You scared her!” Caihong accused. She frowned at Cara and the two glared at one another. But she broke it when she heard a fast, flittering noise behind her. Fearing the worst, she turned. When Caihong turned around Ouli had gone down to her small pixie stature and was flitting at shoulder height to her.
“I’m sorry Ouli,” Cara said nervously, biting her lip. She took a few steps forward until Ouli was floating in front of her face, “I didn’t mean to scare you. See. It’s me. I-we need to find Genevieve.”
“We NEEDto get to the water.”
“You go get your water then,” Cara growled to the upset siren, “if Genevieve really did help us get away from one of the five then we should help her too…”
“She’s probably dead! If she made a deal with the little pixie to help us, why would I dishonor that? I mean do you think that she would do it for you if you had made the deal instead of her?” Aexie growled at her, pushing past the human, “you are all idiots. You can go and do whatever you want, but if I don’t worry about me, then I’ll be dead! And I care more about me surviving than I do about her.”
“Fine! Run away then!” Ouli grabbed at Cara’s hand again trying to pull her along with Aexie in her much smaller form, but she held firm, and she shook her head, “Ouli…please.”
The little pixie huffed, then began to pull her in a separate direction. Little trails of glitter fell from her shiny wings as she continued on. But with a brush of twigs, she shot into the air and began to survey what she could of the forest. Caihong and Cara looked up to see her coming down and smiling happily at them.
“Safe?”
The pixie nodded, continuing on ahead.

The women were as quiet as they could be and had searched the hallway for the keys, but it was for naught. Genevieve had been locked in the cage, with Nick tending to the deep scratch marks that she’d managed to carve into his skin further down the hall in another room.
“Please, take me with you…you have to take me with you!” Genevieve begged as Cara, Caihong, and Ouli looked at the heavy iron door that separated them. A noise was heard down the large hall and her eyes went wide, “Please…quickly. He’s a golem. He’ll kill me. He’ll eat me. I-I don’t want to die. Please!”
Cara’s eyes went wide, and she backed up. The breath caught in her throat, “a golem?”
“What is a golem?” Caihong asked.
“A golem is a magical creature, created from a powerful spell,” Cara whimpered, eyes still wide as she looked at the hallway. She saw the light flicker, proving that he was actively moving not too far away from them, “they are created by those who seek protection or destruction…M-my village was nearly destroyed by one centuries ago…they were banned. Anyone caught creating one is punishable by death. W-we have to go. We can’t stay here. ”
“Well, I’m not trying to create one,” Genevieve hissed, hands coming in contact with the bars, only for her to retract them just as quickly. She looked at them nervously. She was scared as her voice wavered, “shit he’s thought of everything…holy water is on them…please. Get me out of here. Please Ouli! Cara? Caihong?”
Cara’s eyes drifted back down the hall where the shadows in the lit room showed that he was coming towards them, “I’m sorry! W-we have to go. I can’t get you out, Genevieve. I’m not strong enough to move the bars on my own. I need the key.”
The vampire looked to the pixie, her eyes looking worriedly at her, “Ouli….”
Ouli’s eyes flickered to the boarded-up window in the high corner, “free.”
And with a quick blink of her eyes, the boards dropped from their spots and there were no bars over the windows. She gave her a thankful look and muttered that she would meet them outside.
The three girls looked hurriedly back to the vampire before quickly ascending the staircase. Caihong was the last one up the stairs, but gave her a sympathetic look, “follow the north star. The magical beings will sense when we get close and help us, despite the five.”
Genevieve nodded, and she was gone. With the clamouring getting closer to her cell, she ran for the high placed window. While it wasn’t them opening the door, she understood that pixie magic could only do so much. She, nor Caihong could break through iron, and she was grateful for the assistance.
Until she heard the iron door slam open, and his hand enclose around her ankle. Genevieve felt her body stiffen as the rigid, long grass and soft mud work itself beneath her fingertips as he used his strength to pull her back into the room.
“NO. NO! LET ME GO!”
“You’re mine little vampire!” he claimed, throwing his arms around her waist, and throwing her over his shoulder. She twisted and fought, punching, and kicking as hard as she could, but to no avail. The golem had her in his clutches. And it was clear that he wasn’t letting go of her.

Jakten, Chapter 10
Word Count: 1.7k
Warnings:  angst, hidden feelings, mentions of blood/torture, floof, implied smut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’m busy, fae,” Nick sneered, seeing the king of the faeries on his doorstep.  But upon further inspection he noticed that he seemed to be in distress.  His heart raced as he realized that Cara was not with him, “Where is she?”
“Safe,” the faerie said firmly.  He looked uncomfortable as he looked around the forest that surrounded the golem’s home, “are you going to make me stand out here, or are you going to invite me in?”
“We’re busy,” the vampiress said from behind him.  Nick shifted slightly and Genevieve appeared to be covered in dirt and blood, “whatever you want should wait.”
She glared at the fae as she began closing the door so that they could continue their torture of Ransom.
“It can’t. I-I need to talk to someone about Cara.” Genevieve stopped closing the door at the mention of Cara.
“Is she okay?”
“Yes…but-will you both please let me in?  I don’t want the whole forest knowing of my predicament,” the fae pled, “please?”
“Fine,” Genevieve growled, moving away from the door.  Nick put his hand on the small of her back and she gave him a soft look, “but the second you offend either of us you are out.  I’m not going to let you bully Nick.”
Nick chuckled, pressing a firm kiss to the top of her head, “my sweet, if we kicked him out for every time he offended us, he’d never be in the house.”
“I’m in love with her.”
The two stopped their playful banter and looked to the nervous immortal, “what did you say?”
Lance licked his lips and shook his head, “d-don’t make me say it again, Nick.”
“Oh no,” Nick said with a smug grin, “I really think you should say it again.”
He frowned, “I-I don’t believe that it’s necessary.”
“There’s the door, Lance.”
He looked at it wistfully, “why are you two doing this to me?”
“Because watching you squirm is fun.”
Lance looked to the vampire and then to Nick, “please?”
“Oh, I’m agreeing with her,” Nick smiled, “say it again, Tucker.”
A low growl rose from his throat, before he gave a defeated sigh, falling onto the last step at the base of the entryway.  He looked up at the couple and braced his hand on his knee, “I’m in love with the human, okay?  I’m in love with her, but I fucked it all up and I don’t know what to do.”
Nick took a step forward, “what do you mean you fucked it up?”
“I fucked one of my maidens, and I called Cara a business transaction,” he grumbled.  When Nick frowned, he was quick to defend himself, “she could have said she cared about me first.  I-I asked her.  But she’s so god damned stubborn.”
“Hmmm, you don’t say,” Genevieve said sarcastically, “I know someone just like that.”
Lance glared at her, realizing that she was referring to him in that manner, “that’s rude to insinuate things.”
“It’s a fact, Lance,” Nick replied, looking to the other immortal, “why are you saying that you fucked it up?”
“S-she said she wants to leave.”
“When has that stopped you before?”
Lance glared at Genevieve, but turned his attention back to Nick, “I know you know what it’s like to feel like you’re powerless to someone else’s control.  Letting her in…I-it makes me feel like that.  And for the first time, I’m inclined to let her request be fulfilled…I-I don’t want her to just think of me as nothing more than a misery to her.  I-I don’t want to drag her down…and I feel like if I keep her…I will…but if I let her go…if I take her to the gates and deposit her there before the last cannon tomorrow evening…she’ll shower her in treasures, Nick.  She’ll be able to have a life.  She’ll be able to be happy.  The humans…they have a saying…if you love something let it go…right?”
Nick frowned, but nodded in agreement, “they do…are you sure it’s what she wants, Lance?”
“I think so…” he frowned, tears pricking at his eyes.  He looked to the man he’d viewed as nothing more than a pawn just a few days ago.  But looking at him now, he felt a weird camaraderie with him, “I-thank you, Nick.”
“Good luck, Lance,” Genevieve commented sadly as the fae rose back to his feet.  He gave her a sad smile as he wiped away some of the tears from his eyes, “I’m sorry we couldn’t help…”
“You did…thank you…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lee felt his heart racing in his chest as he watched her continuing on with cleaning up the chambers they’d shared.
“Stop staring at me, Lee.”
The bear grumbled, but padded into the room, “how did you know?”
“Your scent, silly,” she laughed softly.  He closed the gap between the two of them and wrapped his arms around her waist, ceasing her ministrations.  She looked at him over her shoulder.  When she noticed that he wasn’t his normal chipper self, her brow furrowed, “What’s wrong?  You’re upset!”
“Jakten is almost over.”
“We should throw a party then, to celebrate,” she offered sweetly, pressing her lips to what little part of his jaw that she could reach, “when’s the last time any of you men actually celebrated?”
Lee looked at her with his brow furrowing now, “y-you want to stay with me?”
She turned in his arms, admiring the bear of a man.  Her hand stroked his face and she sighed, “well my place isn’t with them…now is it?  If you don’t want me to sta-“
“I do!”
She smiled, “you didn’t even let me finish the question.”
“And you don’t have to finish it,” he replied honestly, “if you have any doubt in your mind about how I feel about you, please, allow me the time to fix it.”
Before she could ask what he meant, Lee had lowered the both of them onto his bed.  She giggled as Lee pressed his lips to her face, peppering her with kisses.
“Lee, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to make love to you if you allow it,” he said softly, pulling away from her just enough so that he could look into her eyes, “I want you to stay, Caihong.  And I want you to stay with me.  As my mate.  As my equal.”
Caihong felt her eyes watering, “you really want me?”
“I would gladly trade my immortality for every day with you in my arms,” he admitted, “but I want that to be what you want out of life.  I will not force you to stay here with me if you do not want to do such.”
“You’re not forcing me to do anything Lee,” she whispered softly, pulling him back towards her lips.  He smiled, whimpering into the kiss as he felt her arms slide around his neck, “I love you, Lee.  I know that it sounds crazy, but it’s true.”
“It’s not crazy…I love you too, Caihong.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“She’s not what your heart desires and you know it, James.” Bucky looked to Jefferson, knowing that the immortal was right.  He gave a sigh as he looked out to the forest where Aexie had been darting, “she won’t even know she’s gone, James…just relinquish your claim on her.”
Bucky looked to perhaps what was his oldest friend amongst the immortals, “she doesn’t truly deserve to die, does she, Jefferson?”
“She tricked you,” he pointed out, reminding Bucky of the razor mark across his cheek.  She’d grabbed one of his shaving razors and lashed out at him when he was going to bed.  She’s swiped him across the cheek and then ran.  And all Bucky had to do was think of Jefferson and he appeared like a ghost out of thin air.  The two men were watching her from Bucky’s window, disappearing into the lush forest, “her fear is so thick, James.  It’s like a runway pointing me where she’s going.  She shouldn’t be able to escape with her life.  Not with two attempts on your own.”
“Were you protecting me?” Bucky asked shortly, “You arrived much quicker than I thought you would.”
The little pixie popped up from the breast pocket of his vest, shyly waving to him, and he chuckled.  Jefferson sighed, “Ouli was under the impression that Aexie would try to harm you again.”
Bucky looked to the pixie who was smiling happily at him, and to the lovesick boogeyman who was staring at her adoringly, “Jefferson?”
“Right,” he commented, “I-I would ask that you do watch Ouli for me, and keep her on you…I don’t trust Lance not to try and pull a power move, but I don’t want her seeing what I do…it’s…well, it would upset her.”
Ouli frowned, fluttering out of Jefferson’s pocket, before landing on his shoulder and pressing a delicate kiss to his cheek.
“Yes…I know…but I don’t want you having to see that side of me.”
Bucky raised his brow, “are you…communicating with her?”
“She has a lot to say,” Jefferson said with a shrug, “but she’s learning…soon you’ll be able to speak to her like I can…isn’t that right my little sugar plum?”
She glared at him playfully and Jefferson laughed. Bucky raised a brow and he shook his head, “that’s her nickname…she hates it because I’m calling her a faerie when she’s clearly a pixie…”
“Yeah…”Bucky laughed awkwardly, not getting the joke at all.
“Yes he does,” Jefferson argued, when she looked at Bucky and quirked her brow at Jefferson, “James…tell her you get the joke…she-“
“I don’t get the joke, Jefferson.”
“He’s just one person,” Jefferson said defensively to the happy looking pixie, “he doesn’t count.”
“She doesn’t love you, you know.”
Jefferson froze and Aexie smiled, spitting out some blood.
“You know I’m right.”
“Ouli cares for me,” he grumbled, glaring at the siren, “not that it’s any of your business, because it’s not…but she wants to stay with me.”
“She’s clinging to you because you mean life,” she hissed, “that dumb little bitch wants to live and you’re her best chance of it, even if you have her locked away in some gilded cage.  Convincing her that you aren’t the worst of them will only blind her for so long though.  Once she realizes that you’re just as bad, she’ll run too.  They’ll all run from all of them.  I was just the smartest one so I realized it first.”
“Little tip, love…the smart ones don’t get caught.”
