Thank you for answering my ask and EXACTLY, thank you. Im tired of Tohru's role in this and I think I even dislike her because of it. It's like a betrayal in a way because by befriending your friends' abuser, you're taking their side and what does that say about tohru? That aspect of her reminded me to not like her that much.

Your feelings on the matter are fair, and if the situation were playing out in real life I should hope I would feel the same way.

However, I do like that added bit of complexity to Tohru's character. She has been dealing with the fallout and even continued grievances and terrorizations by Akito on the entire Sohma family and it is after seeing how this person has negatively affected all the other people in her life that Tohru welcomes Akito into her life and heart, which is rather wild. I don't think she has the emotional fortitude to hold a grudge the way Rin can and rightfully does. She is too soft. But I love her character for her softness.

I have experienced love and kindness from such soft people in my life, and I have been unspeakably grateful for it because the times I received such kindness were not the times in my life when I had either earned or deserved it. Their kindness took me from a bad person to a person capable of much love and kindness in return. I never asked for their loving treatment, and it could not have been easy to be kind to me, but they did it nonetheless, and I cannot imagine what my life would look like if their gentle hands had not reached out to me.

Tohru reminds me of such people in my life, and while I wholly agree with the sentiments you convey, I cannot as a result bring myself to take umbrage against her.
