i love hs modern au and i find it unlikely that any of the gaang would like actually put effort into the clothes they wear except for maybe katara but also i know in my heart that azula only wears designer everything
LITERALLYYY whenever i see modern au fanart of them in like, the latest stylish fits i am just like “they would not fucking wear that!!!!” katara, ty lee, and to a lesser extent, azula (in the sense that she only buys designer) are the only characters who would actually put effort into their outfits, but even the outfits i do see them drawn in are not the CORRECT kinds of outfits wrt what they’d “actually” wear (in my subjective yet correct opinion).
katara would thrift all kinds of different clothes and curate her Lük every day depending on her mood, but she cannot walk thru her front door without first passing a vibe check. and she loves fashion and loves curating various outfits on pinterest and she has a lot of opinions on the latest trends, historical costuming in period pieces, haute couture, makeup, and stuff like that. she also makes her own clothes sometimes (or as gifts for her friends).
ty lee is less knowledgeable about clothing than katara is, but just as fashionable. she really only has one consistent style, which is to look as cute as possible at all times. her goal is always to have you know that she’s the prettiest girl in the room but also that you can’t have her. unlike katara, who mostly considers makeup a fun thing, ty lee refuses to leave the house without makeup, even though she’s so beautiful that her face looks exactly the same without it (except slightly less shiny and glowy and pink).
azula dresses like shiv roy, or lydia tár from tár (bad movie), so it’s not a matter of being more fashionable, but rather looking effortlessly sleek and elegant and clean and, most importantly, rich. but rich in a way that isn’t show-offy and crude, because azula cannot stand people who brag about their wealth in coarse ways that signify that they clearly don’t deserve it. she dresses like a corporate lawyer every day, years before she actually becomes a corporate lawyer. she grows into her threads.
as for the rest of them… aang wears a color block t shirt and shorts basically every day (he even wears shorts in winter sometimes, because he is oddly impervious to cold). so does toph. sometimes she switches it up with a pair of baggy overalls. sometimes she just wears sweatpants outside (which katara finds appalling) because fuck it, who cares? not her.
sokka wears the same basic outfit every single day, and whenever anyone questions him on it (usually katara) he’s just like “these are my clothes…why wouldn’t i wear them every day…” and he’s never once put more thought into it than that (except for the very first time he officially went on a date with yue, at which point he had a minor freakout over whether his favorite sweater made him look sufficiently erudite. katara was just like “yeah i can’t help you there”).
zuko dresses extremely preppy and has no sense of fashion whatsoever, he just wears the exact same type of clothes his mom bought for him as a child until he dies. sometimes he fantasizes about dressing cool and edgy, like to a concert or something, but every time katara offers to help him pick out an outfit he chickens out at the last minute and just ends up wearing the same soft brown sweater he always wears.
suki doesn’t put a lot of effort into her appearance but she puts maximum effort into looking as dykey as possible at all times. she kind of dresses like a lesbian fuckboy. that said, she is constantly trying to give sokka a makeover, because she’s convinced that “if he only dressed sluttier, he’d realize that he’s bisexual.” to which sokka is like, “wouldn’t i ‘realize that i’m bisexual’ if i ever felt attraction towards a guy?” to which suki’s just like “you understand nothing.”
finally, mai has a pretty similar style to azula in the sense that she also dresses in a casually elegant way, but unlike azula, she isn’t really putting effort into cultivating that look, she just happens to like soft yet elegant comfortable clothing, and she happens to have her dad’s credit card handy whenever she needs to purchase new clothes. she wears a lot dark colors, long cardigans, turtlenecks, long flowy pants, scarves, boots, and coats. tank top + long flowy pant is her go-to summer look, and big black peacoat and red scarf is to go-to winter look. but she especially thrives in autumn, her favorite season. not that she puts a lot of effort into curating her wardrobe, but it doesn’t even matter because she just looks effortlessly great anyway.

I couldn't sleep, so I made a list of pokemon teams for Avatar the Last Airbender.
TEAM AVATAR
Aang- Bouffalant (Appa), Emolga (Momo), Flygon (earth), Charizard (fire), Togetic/kiss or Alteria? (air), Mantine (water)
Katara- Lapras, Froslass (to represent the Painted Lady), Chansey (healing), Tentacruel? (poison type to represent bloodbending?), Primarina? (Starter?), Basculegion (to represent her tribe and their losses for which she fights)
Sokka- Lucario (given to him as a Riolu by Suki), Tyrogue (might evolve into Hitmontop, might not evolve at all), Ursaluna (given to him as a teddiursa by Yue), Minior (to represent the meteor he made his sword out of. Probably blue color, but maybe shiny?), Samurott (his starter probably), Klinklang (to represent his tinkering skills)
Toph- Excadrill (badgermoles, obviously), Steelix (metalbending), Machamp (her championship title), Tinkaton, Gallade (given to her as a Ralts by her parents as a kind of "seeing eye pokemon" that she turned into a fighter. Kept an everstone on it until she joined the gaang), Bewear (another gift from parents, but this time as more like a bodyguard.)
Zuko- Pyroar M (prince), Doublade (swords), Ceruledge (blue spirit), Annihilape (anger issues), Alolan Marrowak (mom issues), Kommo-o (dragon)
Suki- Mienshao, Urshifu (I want her to have 3, but couldn't think of a good 3rd one, except maybe she has both forms of Urshifu?)
FIRE NATION
Iroh- Drampa (old man/dragon, often underestimated), Turtonator (fire dragon), Polteageist (tea), Emboar (they have the same body type lol), Darmanitan (zen), Kingambit (I know pai sho isn't chess, but it's the closest we got, ok?)
Ozai- Houndoom, Infernape, Moltres? (The comet?), Magmortar, Zoroark (trickery), Mabosstiff?
Azula- Luxray, Pyroar F, Morpeko, Jolteon, Flareon, Chandelure? (Blue fire)
Mai- Salazzle, Umbreon, Malamar
Ty Lee- Mr Mime, Oricorio-baile style, Eevee
Zhao- Blaziken, Talonflame, Incineroar, Armarouge
OTHER
Bumi- Gigalith
Yue- Goldeen, Lunatone (shiny)
Cabbage Guy- Bulbasaur
Jet- Weavile, Sneasler
Notable extras:
• Use Hypnos in Ba Sing Se for the conspiracy
• Sand benders (Si Wong tribes) use Hippopotas, Palosand, and Sandiles mostly
• Wan Shi Yong is an Alpha Noctowl
• Foggy Swamp Tribe use mostly Ludicolo line, Carnivine, Poliwag line, and Tangrowth lines, but any swampy pokemon will do. Bugs are common.
• As Lee, Zuko only uses his Doublade and Marrowak
• I want Spark Sparky Boom Man to use an Unown with a max power psychic type Hidden Power, but I don't know enough about Hidden Power mechanics to be sure that would work.
• Does penguin sledding use Delibird, Eiscue, or the Piplup line? These are the important questions!
• I purposefully made it so only the main characters/bad guys had more than 3 pokemon.
• I almost gave Zuko a Rayquaza, but he wouldn't have a legendary until he becomes Fire Lord
• Except for the Bouffalant, all Aang's pokemon can fly. (Regional varient that can fly?)
• As he is the Avatar, should all Aang's pokemon be shiny?
• Azula's crew all have an eeveelution. Azula has two, and I imagine the flareon used to belong to Zuko, but it was taken from him after the Agni Kai and banishment.
• Ty Lee wants to keep her eevee unevolved. Azula might convince her to "make it more powerful." If she does, it'll be a Sylveon.
• Zuko and Azula's mom got both of them a litleo each as kids.
• Fire Nation mostly use fire types, but electric are common enough. Earth Kingdom is mostly ground and rock, but steel is ok. Air Nomads obviously use mostly flying, but fairy is common. Water Tribes use mostly water and ice, but obviously the swamp tribe uses grass.
• The Earth King still has just a bear. It's not a pokemon. It's a bear.

Anyone else notice how the show is not only reluctant to explore the Water Tribes, but also tends to paint them negatively?
It’s in the way they spent majority of the first book in the Earth Kingdom and spent only three episodes in the North which was their goal the whole season. Or the way Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom have random characters speak to the Gaang along the way whereas only necessary Water Tribe members get lines.
It’s in the way Roku formed close bonds with all his teachers except his waterbending teacher. He was close friends with Gyatso. He describes his earthbending teacher affectionately, even though his character may difficult. Roku beats him but maintains respect by serving him tea.
With his waterbending teacher, there’s nothing there at all. No connection, no story. There’s disrespect at best.
I don’t think growing distaste between nations is an excuse because the show as a whole does this.
None of the boys Katara trained against could have been given lines or some character? None of them could have befriended her or spoken to her? None of the waterbending girls there could speak to Katara?
They had the time to speak to two earthbending boys in Toph’s debut episode. And that could have easily been cut out.
Hahn. I don’t think the show intended for people to hate him as much as the fandom does when he’s remembered.
Hahn said maybe one sexist comment. It’s an arranged marriage, a political one. It’s only done for the “perks”. You’re not marrying out of love, not that it’s impossible to fall in love. The way Hahn said it does sound majorly disrespectful to Yue, and bringing up other girls also seems in bad taste, but really, he’s an arrogant guy bragging about how he’s got the most profitable marriage that one can have in the North.
Also Sokka has said many more sexist comments than Hahn has. The difference is that he had time to unlearn it and that he wasn’t in a relationship while he was sexist. Remember how he spoke to Suki at first, brushing off her training and armor and weapons as a “dance lesson”? You can’t convince me he wouldn’t make kitchen jokes or be really unpleasant to watch in a relationship then.
Hahn dies? Or something. We never find out. I find his character funny and wish he was explored more.
Kuruk is the only Avatar besides Roku who’s painted as someone who was lazy in the show. None of the others have a mistake highlighted.
I didn’t watch Korra, but I’ve seen some of the characters and I guess it’s worse there.
The NWT doesn’t join for the Invasion. You’d think Sokka would ask for their help and that waterbenders would be able to get places faster than regular boats. The NWT never shows up again, in fact.
The swamp benders show up, but they’re more country American than anything close to the Water Tribes.
The Northern Water Tribe is the one who gets the sexism card, while the Fire Nation gets to have female soldiers and act like that doesn’t make them sexist. Sokka is glaringly sexist while Zuko and Iroh aren’t. Or at least the show acts like they aren’t.
Aang never learns to heal. For someone who doesn’t eat meat, or claims to never kill, you’d think healing would be important to him.
Katara is the last known Southern waterbender and this is never brought up later. None of her tribe are proud of her, neither Sokka or Hakoda. Her only moment of acknowledging her responsibility of maintaining Southern waterbending is with Hama.
Hama.
Katara stealing the waterbending scroll is not given the weight of it being important to her culture.
Katara barely does anything in the Invasion until the end.
The Gaang goes to many places or has many scenes with one off characters that are either Earth Kingdom or Fire Nation and that aren’t entirely necessary for the plot. It would be easy to switch some scenes out for more Water Tribe.

Yeah, I always kind of hated "The Southern Raiders." Everybody else instantly forgives Zuko for everything, except for Katara. But she's then portrayed as being unreasonable for not trusting him & her anger unjustified because she's apparently just projecting her trauma about her mom at poor innocent Zuko, who also lost his mom because of the war. He totally didn't personally cause the Gaang trauma or anything like that! Katara is just a big meanie!
I do rather dislike how everyone else's justifiable and reasonable trauma tends to take a backseat to Zuko's, in both the show and fandom. Not to say that Zuko doesn't have trauma or that his is somehow "lesser" on a kind of Ultimate Trauma Scale, because, well, comparing trauma like that is kind of bullshit. No one wins the trauma olympics.
But what you see is characters swallowing down their hurt and anger in order to make him feel better or to let his pain take center stage. And maybe in another work, that would be fine. But in a work where the title character is the sole survivor of a genocide, where two characters are the survivors of an attempted one and very clearly coded to real peoples who actually suffered and continue to suffer real and cultural genocide, where there are countless victims of war and displacement...it very much feels slightly tone-deaf to have them doing this to their former enemy, meaning someone who sided with the people who did all those terrible things. It's not the same as if Zuko were a playground bully who kept stealing their baseball for 2.5 seasons and then joined the team and said sorry. The stakes were different. The context was different.
Katara is allowed to be mad and resentful at Zuko for the number of times he threatened her in the past. How many nights did he cause her to lose sleep as he chased them around the globe? Is she upset when she thinks about how differently the North Pole could have gone, if Yue would still be alive, if Zuko hadn't kidnapped Aang then? If he hadn't helped Azula in the catacombs of Ba Sing Se, would she have even had a chance to zap Aang? If Katara hadn't been fast enough that first meeting, how many children would have died when Zuko rammed his ship into their village? Would he have hurt Gran-Gran? Would he have destroyed her mother's necklace? The waterbending scroll? Would he have sold her to the pirates? Would he have let her burn on Kyoshi Island? Or other countless times? Or Sokka? Or any other innocents?
Katara honestly has 2.5 seasons worth of things to be pissed off at Zuko for, and that's without projecting a damn thing.

MY ATLA LIVE ACTION S1E8 THOUGHTS
EP7
Alright guys, this is the end of it. Not gonna lie, I thought this was a little… underwhelming. They’re focusing a lot on the aftermath of a battle, which could be cool if done correctly. I wasn’t that into it.
At the very least, this episode, the visuals went crazy! We had the red color grading when Tui was captured, and the monochrome gray with the specific highlights when she was dead. La’s possession of the Avatar looked incredible as well. They sold it as a fairly awe-inspiring moment, but I think this moment was undermined a little in other ways.
I think there are a lot of little inconsistencies throughout the show that really culminated here. Some of my worries were resolved, but some of them really weren’t.
In any case, I think this was fine for a season finale. It fit the tone of the show and went harder than the other episodes to end things off.
I’ll write a full series review tomorrow, I’m trying to go to sleep.
Live reactions under the cut
well i do love seeing strategy sokka
disappointed by the lack of catapults on the ships so aang couldn’t creatively use them to destroy the ship
did iroh just tell zuko to swim in freezing waters? lol
wait we already did koh, so what’s up with tui and la? how are we gonna figure out where they are? are we even gonna see the spirit oasis?
oh so. we’re introducing the war balloons now? early for the fire nation? with a vague reference to the mechanist? how’d they even get the plans? sure do wish we’d seen more about those before, besides just making them. maybe used one to take down the firebenders invading the northern air temple? maybe a fire nation soldier could’ve found the remains of a balloon. just a thought
the. ice moon?
AND YET THEY INTRODUCE THE CONCEPT OF LION TURTLES NOW!! this is BAFFLING to me
so tui and la only take physical form once a year in this version? huh
and he’s gonna kill tui with KURUK’s spirit knife. interesting macguffin
THEY ALMOST KILLED OFF MOMO????!!! JAIL
okay so there is the spirit oasis. and they’re using it to bring back momo
sorry that was actually genuinely deeply upsetting. they just did something illegal i swear to god. don’t fuck with the animals
i am Not believing that katara is skilled enough to fight zuko. sorry but it’s not happening. she hasn’t even been trained. “you found a master haven’t you”. no zuko, she hasn’t. NO ONE HAS TRAINED HER. “yes, you’re looking at her.” katara, someone called you a master once, girl, that doesn’t mean you Are one
good lord that’s so red. i like that they kept that visual cue though
tui: dea. the color grading on this is still good too. the only colors we really see are the flashes of yellow and red with the fire balls being thrown around. theoretically, everything else should be grayscale/monotone, with the exception of yue’s blue eyes (which i don’t believe are blue in this adaptation). i don’t really have complaints about the look of things
okay la, your turn
do we need a “reality of war” moment again? tbh i feel nothing for these people.
oh yue’s eyes ARE blue. chill
hey what do you mean “you’ll be lost forever”. something something killed in the avatar state killed forever can’t reincarnate
okay la possession looks cool as hell. obsessed with these visuals
though idk if it’s just me, but people are really trying to get the “avatar is gone”, “there’s no more avatar”, “you’ll be lost forever” thing across huh. i feel like that kind of undersells the moment when seemingly everyone knows what’s going on.
zuko’s gonna fight zhao now why? purely so zhao can give zuko a moment of realization, got it
and then he tries to kill zhao. i still think zuko would never.
and now zhao is almost certainly dead, because iroh pushed him off. and zuko didn’t have that moment of offering mercy, and zhao didn’t have the moment of rejecting that mercy. this IS a downgrade
woahhh hahn dead confirmed. wish i could celebrate, but he’s nice now
so pakku is NOT becoming katara and sokka’s grandfather in this one. i bet we won’t even learn the significance of katara’s necklace
SHE IS NOT A MASTER STOP SAYING THAT. SHE LEARNED OFF OF ONE (1) WATERBENDING SCROLL WITH ZERO SUPERVISION
sorry are you relying on bumi for earthbending training? you haven’t even started waterbending. this bumi is barely reliable from your interactions with him
oop there goes omashu. weird that we’re seeing the takeover
okay. sozin’s comet. i thought you were taking that out? was that just a lie then? shouldn’t aang know about that? might actually make him learn waterbending. considering the series just ended. and he HASN’T EVEN LEARNED WATERBENDING YET
liked: the visuals went so hard, no kataang romance
worried about for potential season 2: zuko's arc
disliked: zuko and zhao's fight, katara "mastering" waterbending despite never having trained with a master, aang literally not even once showing that he was the avatar outside of the avatar state (not learning ANY waterbending)

Netflix's ATLA initial thoughts, ep 8: Legends
Honestly love Katara joining Aang in attacking the ships. I still wish he could waterbend too. Oh Sokka is here! Teamwork :')
Awkward CGI ftw. I had to mention it at least once.
Iroh giving Zuko advice makes more sense! That's the kind of thing I wanna see! That said, "Lu Ten woulda been proud" is not as strong as "You are like a son to me." Whack dialogue strike 74.
Bringing in the airship early is...a choice. And oh man Iroh, you will find out what job soon enough.
WHY HAVEN'T WE SEEN AANG WATERBEND
I GUESS WE'LL SEE ALL THESE WOMEN FIGHT INSTEAD I'M NOT CRYING
Sokka and Yuuue sitting in a...on an ice block
Master Katara seemingly as earned in this show as in the OG. Which is extra points against this show lmao you're supposed to improve upon the flaws you stupid remake!
Fucking fire sage traitor ass bitch. I don't mind the sages having this information; makes sense. I also like that the ocean and moon spirits appear rarely instead of BEING mortal. That is the kind of flaw improvement I like to see.
I don't love the super powerful being (Aang) seeing things others don't. It's giving hallucinations for plot purposes, which I hate.
Momo came here to nearly die, I see. I'll allow it. There's a push and pull (heh) between realism and fantasy and they are leaning toward realism. It works if Yue has powers and needs to save someone in an oasis that is not just a 10 by 10 island.
I love seeing the adults act. They're so believable lmao.
Katara Zuko fight! Lmao and Aang telling her to go easy on him. I wish that was earned.
"Yes. You're looking at her." PERIODT! I...wish that was earned.
Zhao wanting firelord is bullshit. Also how do you know which fish is the moon? Must... not... nitpick... final... episode.......
I will say Zhao's actor ate this whole season. He came to the Netflix buffet and had his fill and then some.
Color grading, I kiss you on the mouth.
So many water tribe warriors would have died in the wake of the death of the moon spirit. I'm glad they showed that. It hurts to watch but I didn't sign up for this live action remake to have my hand held.
I finally believe this kid as Aang and it took him about to go kaiju. Maybe because I couldn't see his eyes.
Speaking of kaiju!!! Fuck it up, kings! We BIG mad with the Avatar and ocean spirit!
He's a small man! Who's gonna meet a small end!!!
Okay. I love Azula in this. They made a good choice here. Actually no. They made many good choices here. They brought her forward a season and they made so many compelling choices with her character. Incredible.
Yeah keep throwing fireballs at a water kaiju you dumb fucks.
Sokka and Yuuue... and then just Sokka...
Katara, he can't hear you. Stfu.
I love seeing the aftermath except I don't. Fuck the aftermath. Have I not cried enough?
NOT THE GUY WITH THE DIMPLES
You don't! Have to be a warrior!!! To be a hero!!!!!!
A man needs his rest!!!!!! And a me needs their CRY
Chemistry between the trio in the literal last scene of them lmao.
Azula helping conquer Omashu? Under the shadow of the siege of the north? Brilliant.
NOT AZULA BEING A WEAK SACRIFICE.
Yeah what the FUCK is next, Azula?
G-give...me season 2? Now. I want it now.
More thoughts coming....well I have a lot of work the next few days but this will be front of mind anyway lol

Hello! if your still doing Au asks, I was wondering if maybe you could do an Zuko x Sokka x Suki x Yue (cause in my mind she lives), I don't know why i just think its a cute ship?
Thanks for the ask!
Of course! It sounds like a cute ship to me too.
Sokka and Yue actually get together during the North Pole episodes. While Sokka did have a crush on Suki, he actually starts a relationship with Yue. It's one of the reasons that she decides to join them in their journey after Aang learns waterbending. So now it's season two but with Yue.
The Gaang meets Suki at the Serpent's Pass and Sokka introduces the her and Yue. Throughout their time together, Yue can tell Sokka still has feelings for Suki and also develops a little crush on her as well. Something that she struggles with a bit because the North Pole doesn't really allow gay relationships, but the South Pole does. By the end of the Serpent's Pass episode, the three confess that they like each other (I imagine Yue would do this while half hiding behind her hair cause I find that so cute) and agree to talk more later. In this version, Suki agrees to come back to Ba Sing Se after she finishes some work with the other Kyoshi Warriors. So the group is expecting her.
Sokka hears Suki (Azula in disguise) is in Ba Sing Se and almost doesn't go with Aang, but Yue tells him to and says she'll talk to her. When Yue goes to talk to her, she'd go first thing, she quickly realizes it isn't Suki and is captured by Azula. Now, Katara starts to grow uneasy because her friend suddenly disappeared. She goes to the king and tells him something in wrong, but he gives a similar response "Bosco's animal instincts would sense it." Still uneasy, she writes to Sokka and tells him to come back. Things would be pretty similar to canon except Aang stays with the Guru. Katara finds out about the Kyoshi Warriors when she goes to talk to Suki and is captured as well. Everyone, minus Aang, heads back to Ba Sing Se and a battle emerges between the groups. "WHERE'S SUKI!?!"
The city still falls, but Aang does not. The group flees and stays with Hakoda. Sokka and Yue spend the entire time worrying about Suki and if she's okay. Flash forward to the DOBS, Yue comes within seconds of stabbing Azula (cause Yue hates anyone who calls her girlfriend her favorite prisoner) only to be stopped by Aang. When Zuko arrives, Sokka and Yue don't consider him as more than anything but a firebending teacher for Aang. It's only during the Boiling Rock episode that they start to see him as more. Sokka falls first, but Yue is right behind him. Suki is the one who's more reserved because he burned down her village. However, after a few weeks, the four start spending more and more time together and finally talk about liking each other. Zuko also suffers from some internal issues because the Fire Nation is very much against same sex relationships. He grows but slowly.
Following the war, Sokka and Yue have to return to their homes but Suki stays in the Fire Nation with the Kyoshi Warriors. Sokka and Yue do return and start going back and forth between nations. The fact that Zuko has partners from the Earth Kingdom, South Pole and North Pole does come in handy though with international relations. The only disturbance to their schedule is when Izumi comes into their lives and the four parents all want to share their culture with her and spend as much time as possible with her. They eventually decide to keep her in the Fire Nation (because she is technically their princess) but bring her to the South Pole, North Pole and Kyoshi Island every few months.

My beautiful son, ATLA fic outline.
Maybe someday, he will encase himself in a cocoon and become a beautiful fic.
The premise? Basically, Zuko and Azula? Dead. Like suppppeeeerrr dead. They don't get better
-Zuko and Azula?? Are ghosts
-Descended from the Firelord, but due to a bloody succession battle, died
-Ozai is NOT the father
-Summons the ghosts to work for him? Binds their spirits
-Do NOT like
-Thtas why Azula’s fire is blue. Shes dead. THats why it doesn't hurt her
-Azula either poisoning or chest wound
-Zuko. Take a guess lolol face hurtie
-The Blue Spirit is Zuko but like. Splitting off a part of himself (before Ozai bound them) so it acts as a separate being, but like, hivemind sorta thing. Thats also why he can resist more
-Ozai eventually finds out about that and kills it? Maybe
-Aang when rescued from Pohai realises its a spirit. Also goes. Hmmm. ur familiar
-The cover story for Azula is Zuko is that they are children of a concubine
-Ursa was sent away when she couldn’t conceive. Hint hint. Ozai is infertile
-Ozai remarries to some noble who like, just runs parties.
-Azula and Zuko heirs
-Hunt Avatar
-Becuase Zuko is ‘unsightly’ and with burn marks on face considered weaker firebender he patrols the borders
-He is VERY weird .
-Cause his soul is split he is able to be sorta like a person cause not full Ozai control
-But like. Still uncanny valley
-Azula is just. Inhuman. What Ozai thinks is ‘perfect heir’
-Zuko patrols border, hears of Avatar INSTANT control mode
-They are both notorious for single minded focus (control….)
-Zuko catches up to them when they are leaving the South Pole
-Fires at them
-THey run
-Earth Kingdom random port
-”AG SCARY FACE GUY IS BACK”
-”Sokka! That’s rude we can’t call him that :(“
-Sorry Aang let me just have a look through my nice names list for people who ARE TRYING TO KILL US!”
-This happens a few times
-”How does this guy keep finding us?”
-This guy is a spirit and avatar is like, spirit hotspot. Spirit GPS auto defaults to him
-Aangs spiritual energy
-Kyoshi Island
-Sokka: Wow you guys are so good you could beat like everything ever
-Suki: HA I dont even we could defeat the Blue Spirit
-Kyoshi island gets too laser focused on Aang. Kung Fu-ed by Suki
-Omashu King Bumi goes…Zuko? Now thats a weird guy
-Literally like. Out of no where
-Apparently the children of the firelord run cold to the touch…But thats just a rumour tehe xD
-Meet Jet
-Hear of Blue Spirit
-Sokka goes…OKAY WHO IS THIS GUY??
-Later Sokka says that this super awesome sword guy should really help them
-Katara goes Nah we are not chasing legends
-WHy not we already have one? You just want to stay with Jet dontcha??
-Aang fades into memory
-Pohai stronghold goes same except he ~somehow~ deflects the arrow
-Hes a spirit . it goes through him
-Scene where Aang goes bro theres something funky about that guy
-What guy?
-The Blue Spirit.
-HES REAL??
Jeong Jeong and stuff
-Is there any other deserters?
-No…not really. Theres other rebels. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Blue Spirit
-The man is an invaluable source of information.
-He speaks??? (aang)
-Oh Agni no. I doubt anyone has ever heard a word from him
-He throws information packets at us
-Mainly about troop movements but it still counts
-We dont know how he finds us though
-^^Spirit powers?? Tracking their inner flame?
-In the siege of the North Zuko tries to stop Zhao.
-”Every life has an inner flame. Even spirits”
-The fish lives because Zuko fuels their inner flame
-Misunderstanding. RIP he in the snow (Fish lives)
-Also Zuko Katara one sided fight scene (he hold the inner flame sorta near the oasis)
-Aang and Katara there cause Aang ran off like I FEEL SPIRIT POWERS
-She followed cause duh
-Yue and Sokka left alone in oasis
-Zhao whoops both of them
-’Kills’ fish
-Iroh whips him out of there
-Real gentle with fish
-Seals wound with fire (cauterised) and lowers back into water
-Pray
-Glow from water
-Fish lives Yue goes psycho spirit mode (also glowing)
-Aang arrives because brooo what is the freaky energy

Do you ever write down a summary first for a fic? Like, what you'd put in as the summary on AO3? Anyways, I haven't actually written any of this one yet, but here's the summary:
Zuko’s not sure why the only other student in Master Piandao’s class was a non-bender from the Southern Water Tribe, or why his father has ordered him to wield the boy as a weapon. He does know why the boy’s hair is white, though, just as his sister’s blood burns. Where each of the Four Nations have a vessel of their respective Gods at their disposal, and Fire Lord Sozin has a grand plan to unite them all under the Fire Nation’s rule.
It's definitely something that might be a longer fic, perhaps even a series. I don't think I'll end up writing it since its... a lot, I think about PLANS for it but the research and time and energy I might dedicate to that would be better off on my own original stuff.
The fic would've been about the three vessel characters; Sokka (Yue is a special case, I'll get to her in a bit), Azula, and I didn't settle on an Earthbender, maybe Toph. The Air one.... doesn't exist, because. Y'know.... (Depending on how extensive the story would get, Aang's kid being the vessel would have been it, assuming I would write sequels). A lot of the meat of the fic was about the vessels and how they're dehumanized/weaponized/traumatized by adults around them.
Sokka's arc would've been the most difficult for me to write. If I did go ahead and write it, I'd want to do plenty of research beforehand of similar situations happening in history. Obviously not fantasy-related, or because of child weapons of mass destruction, but there are sadly many examples of children in history being forcibly ripped away from their families and culture by colonizers/fascists. I'd want to approach writing this with respect and grounded realism, instead of just making up whatever.
Azula's arc would have been about her, as the vessel of Agni, being treated as both a deity and a blade to be wielded by the military. LOTS of conflicting stuff in her arc, especially regarding love and fear. I'd say similar to Salt & Ashes (which is WONDERFUL btw) in how she has been raised by Ozai to just.... not be a person. But a bit different, obviously, because her position as Agni is... a unique one.
Earthbender vessel/Toph, probably, would have been hiding with the White Lotus. I haven't thought about her story, but it probably would've had to do with the Fire Nation attempting to capture her and Iroh having more of a role in her story. Katara and Aang have a story here, too, just. Not exactly the same. I'll have to daydream about what their plot would be more. My initial thoughts would be almost the same as canon, except Katara finds Aang a few years earlier instead. But. IDK. I did want Jet to take a more active role here.
Put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about

Hi, hope you're well.
Idk if you've listened to the new mitski album, but I think it's such a sokka album. There are so many songs on the album that remind me of sokka or sokka and yue like:
heaven and star are such yuekka songs to me or rather yuekka from sokka's perspective where he is both remembering their time together and mourning her death and kinda brings up how her death has fundamentally shaped him forever.
I don't like my mind, the deal and when memories snow makes me think of how exhausting it is to be sokka. All of his many problems that he refuses to (can't) acknowledge and the guilt he feels for those rare times he thinks of not dealing with his many responsibilities.
And finally, I'm your man and I love me after you really make me think of how sokka puts so many people before himself that he is willing to die several times over if it meant the other person's safety. I'm your man especially makes me think of sokka's worship of his dad and how he can't acknowledge that while his father left for the right reasons, it still hurt sokka and katara in very different yet fundamental ways (your father leaving the safety of your sister and entire tribe to twelve year old you will do that).
But yeah it's a good album I think.
Sorry this ask is so long, I just wanted to know your thoughts on this new mitski album + the gaang and others?
yes!! was wondering if/when someone would ask me this lol. i agree that a lot of songs on the album have sokka vibes. i'll go through the album in bullet points (out of order) to elaborate on how i think they fit various characters as i have done with other albums in the past:
"my love mine all mine" is THEE sokka/yue song to me. like the denial of agency/personhood outside of their love which must be hidden and ignored for the sake of duty but cannot be denied!!! and the invocation of the moon is just so potent, of course. if i had time i would make an amv, quite frankly
"star" is such a sokka/yue song from yue's pov specifically she is literally the shining light "burning so you can keep looking up" normally i hate when people compare stars and moons as if they are interchangeable bodies (this is why i cannot enjoy sun & moon dichotomies in poetry i am an insufferable pedant when it comes to astronomy) but i will make an exception in this case because it is just such a beautiful song and really does fit so well.
"buffalo replaced" is such an aang song to me. like not just because of the obvious buffalo (or is it bison?) imagery, but because of the evocation of not being able to catch up to the destructive progress of imperialist nation-building (replacing buffalos with railways, etc.) while simultaneously contrasting it with the liberty and love and freedom of the individual (and that whole verse about how much she loves her cat, that is so real and also so aang) that is so poignant and devastating yet celebratory and warm. maybe that's just my interpretation, but it just feels so aang.
"the frost" is a katara song to me and not just, again, because the imagery is so obviously evocative. there's also some aang themes in the first verse, but the "you're my best friend / now i have no one to tell of how i lost my best friend" lyric really hits because it feels like an address to her mother, but also to sokka. obviously kya was the most important person in katara's life (i assume this is the case for all children with their mothers, i know it's still true for me), but she also lost sokka as a friend when he became her sworn protector. i think katara is grieving the relationship she had with sokka but has no way to communicate it because he's right there, so instead she communicates her grief over kya and rage at the fire nation for taking her family away from her, because it's far easier to verbalize than grief over someone having changed but in a way that seems imperceptible. she calls what sokka does "playing soldier" because the idea that it's just a game to him is far preferable to the chilling alternative that he is prepar[ed/ing] to die. she is losing him in increments and has no one to tell because everyone in her family has either died, left her, or left her emotionally. "it's just witness-less me."
"bug like angel" is a song quite specifically about addiction (alcoholism in particular) but the themes of guilt, regret, and longing do evoke aang and zuko (separately, not as a dynamic) to me. the desire for family, comfort, and for life to revert back to its "original" state before mistakes were made that irreparably altered it (a "sunlit garden" if you will)
"i'm your man" is a sokka song it is also an azula song also a zuko song maybe even an iroh song? it's a song about staking your identity in patriarchal logic especially wrt to one's own father (especially if that father happens to be the leader of a state). it's about the contradictions of patriarchy and selfhood under patriarchy and worshipping at the altar of masculinity even as subsuming its logic destroys you. (will expand on this matter whenever i finally find time to finish my sokka nanami essay. btw)
"i love me after you" is a song that could apply to any number of them but i think it's most poignant if you imagine it as an azula song ("king of all the land" is quite literal, in this case), but also like, a version of azula in the future. it's an azula song someday. eventually.
"when memories snow" is an azula song wrt the line "and if i break could i go on break" and the "thousand hands that clap for me in the dark" but the imagery of memories as snowfall also evokes the black snow that triggers sokka and katara and feels like a metonym for ptsd and trauma. for such a short song, it has a wide range of highly specific applications.
"the deal" can apply to so many characters, as it broadly follows mitski's pattern of existentialist songs such as "abbey" and "door" that can be applied to any range experiences concerning the human condition, BUT, i find it most evocative when considering iroh and his relationship to lu ten and to the spirit world. i'll expand on this more if asked, but for now. just think about it
"i don't like my mind" is such a zuko song especially book 1 zuko who is so obsessively focused on capturing the avatar because he refuses to consider the obvious implications of his situation and is in hardcore denial and avoidance of the blatant truth. he needs this job it is all he has..... please don't take my job from me......
"heaven" IS a sokka/yue song but it's also a sokka/suki song and a mai/ty lee song and really just a universally applicable love song and maybe the most beautiful song ever i dont know. "now i bend like the a willow thinking of you" makes me go crazy every time i hear/think about it probably because i am so othellopilled i think of desdemona and start crying and gnashing my teeth... anyway. on that note!
i'd be happy to expand on any of these, as i recognize that some of my claims were cursory and vague. thank you for asking this and indulging my ramblings :)

had a long car right to think about the Current AU (which I have been thinking of as both exorcism and post apocalypse au in my head, neither of which feel very close to what this is imo) and now im writing thoughts down.
The gist is this:
Aang does not wake up 100 years after he disappears, and this leads to Problems. The first really major one being Zhao’s attack on the NWT -- the moon spirit is killed. Waterbending is over.
(Zuko is probably there when it happens. At the time, he took the excuse to get into the NWT to continue his hunt for the Avatar, but seeing that happen and knowing it was approved by his father was a major blow to his loyalty)
Zhao captured Yue as a final blow to their pride, not aware of her connection to the moon spirit or how important she would become.
The second major problem is Sozin’s comet which goes... Pretty much exactly how Ozai wanted it to. Earth Kindom is decimated, Ba Sing Se has fallen. The world (what remains of it) is ruled by the Phoenix King. Ostensibly
Zuko is kind of horrified by the whole thing, and the destruction makes him realize that the avatar isn’t waiting around waiting to be found, because if he was he probably would have done something to stop this. Cue the realizations that he was never meant to go back home, and that his father was wrong and has hurt, and will continue to hurt a lot people unless someone does something. He probably feels pretty guilty about doing nothing to stop what happened on the day of sozin comet and decides, well, avatar’s not coming, it’ll just have to be him then.
Both of these problems lead to a third, growing issue, which is that the spirits are also very unhappy. There are a lot more spirits like Hei Bai popping up, and a lot more malicious spirits who are also starting to realize, hey, the avatar isn’t showing up to stop them.
I think things take place like... 1-3 years after all this? Everyone has had a little time to fall into their new roles/status quo. I’m not sure if what pushes Sokka and Katara out of the SWT is some spirit interference or Aang waking up -- But if he does I think they’re a lot less willing to accept that he can fix everything. Whatever the case, I think the theme of the story still ends up being something like... Taking things into your own hands and not depending on someone else to fix things for you. Aang’s just a kid! And he can’t master waterbending anyways, so how can be become a fully realized avatar? When they leave, the vibe is less ‘let’s save the world’ and more ‘we can’t keep living like this’
Sokka got involved with spirit stuff kind of by necessity. After the moon spirit got killed things got really bad. Hunting was bad, fishing was worse, there just wasn’t enough food to go around. He doesn’t believe in spirits at first, and he argues against leaving some of the meat he brings back as offerings for them because there just wasn’t enough. He probably gets himself in trouble with them for this, and Gran gran has to coach him through dealing with spirits. With the problem getting worse, it just sort of becomes another responsibillity of his -- Traditionally, it would probably be Katara’s job, but she had a very rough time after the moon died and is still very withdrawn and sad most of the time. Sokka made it a point to step up, after that. Privately, he also did it because he’s pretty sure that his dad and the other men aren’t coming back.
About the ‘hiding your face’ thing in the post that kind of spawned this -- I think maybe spirits don’t recognize anyone but very exceptional humans as anything but ‘a human’, but if you hide your face you are assuming the role of whatever mask/paint you’re putting on. So in the case of Suki, spirits recognize her as ‘a Kyoshi warrior’ with all of the responsibillity and clout that title holds. In the Sokka’s case, he’s go the warrior facepaint, but he’s got other’s too the SWT has more than once face for when they have to deal with spirits.
Suki got involved with spirits through tradition. Part of the Kyoshi warrior’s job is to be a steward to spirits. Suki is... Young for the position, and probably doesn’t know as much as she wants, but she’s doing alright. Her problems mostly come from the outside (ie, the Fire Nation). Kyoshi Island has been neutral throughout the war, but now that the Fire Nation has pretty much won it, it’s only a matter of time before they show up and start demanding things. If they show up with enough force... There’s not a lot they’re going to be able to do. Suki really hates the idea of just waiting to roll over for the Fire Nation, but it takes Sokka showing up before she gets spurred into action. She’s the one who’s actually heard news of some resistance forces springing up in the earth kingdom
Speaking of when Sokka shows up he’s probably... At least a little less outwardly sexist? Or at least more aware of the fact that these girls can fight, he can’t, and he desperately needs to know how. He still ends up in their uniform at some point
Zuko got involved with spirits pretty much on accident. The Royal Family already has some association with spirits, and he only got deeper into it when he started on his avatar hunt. At a certain point, Iroh realizes that he can’t keep Zuko away from them and instead shows him how to survive. Because of what he’s doing, Zuko is very... We’ll say spiritually volatile. A lot of spirits want him to succeed and kill his dad. A lot of them don’t. he’s very lucky that the dark water spirit, who’s face he happened to borrow the first time he got involved with spirits, is one of the ones on his side.
I don’t know what Iroh is up to -- it would make sense for him to be advising Zuko and falling into his own role as a general, but I think it would also be tastilly tragic if he let himself get caught as a traitor to buy Zuko a chance to get away.
Toph marched her way over to the first resistance movement that looked like it was worth a damn (Zuko’s) after sozin’s comet. Maybe also after getting in a fight with her parents about how they probably shouldn’t just start supporting their new fire lord government so easilly? They are friends.
Idk what Jet is up to but he might be involved, somehow. He and Zuko are Not Friends.
Zuko’s group is the one that Suki ends up bringing Sokka and co. to. He’ll take pretty much any help he can get, at this point
Girl help, I’m all for the three of them recognizing their shared experiences and having moments of levity with each other in an otherwise very dark time.
Sokka is able to sense ‘wow, that guy is very spiritually fucked up’ and then gets mad at himself for being able to tell that because its RIDICULOUS. Things actually start going better when he shows up, because Sokka is a plan guy. Zuko is very much not a plan guy, so he needed one of those.
Fun escapades like “going to the spirit world together because they’re all the ones used to dealing with spirits in their communities and wouldn’t accept the other ones taking care  of it” “breaking Sokka’s dad out of prison, but its way harder” and, most crucially, “getting intel on where Yue is and rescuing her, realizing her importance, and figuring out how to restore waterbending”
An idea that keeps sticking in my head is like... some dark spirit has been with the fire nation royal family for generation, always getting into the heads of the second child and turning them down the darkest paths they can go down. It not the only thing responsible, but it sure doesn’t help! With the focus on spirits I think the culmiation would be dealing with Ozai AND that spirit.

I’m a multi shipper. I like almost all the ships, except the incest, abuse, age gap ships. I try to read and look at the fanart, fics and meta for everything. My hot takes are:
- Zutara art is really beautiful, but can become something I really hate, really quick, like Firelady Katara or taking Maiko scenes and replacing Mai with Katara, then acting like it’s improved.🤮 Zutara art is so freaking beautiful and stops being beautiful when it shits on another character.
- I think most of the big Zutara fics are terrible and I’ve mostly stopped reading them. The hate boners some of you have for Aang and Mai are disturbing. Please look at therapy.
- Zukka fics mischaracterise Zuko the most. Like, it’s hard to read. Zuko isn’t some skinny twinky soft boi, wtf?
- Suki and Sokka have way less build up than Kataang, Maiko and Korrasami. Yet people lap it up and it hardly ever suffers from the same criticism (which it absolutely deserves!!)
- saying that Zutara is the ship with lots of POC shippers is not something to brag about. POC shouldn’t be our shield for criticism that we deserve and need to hear and consistently act on. We gotta make this a safe place for all women, and that includes how we talk about and treat the other female characters. Maybe we can be an inclusive ship in the future? Fingers crossed.
- Yue deserved better. I think she would’ve been great with someone like Ty Lee or Suki
- Ty Lee deserves better than the way she’s treated in so many Tyzula fics.
- Mai gets a lot of criticism and frustration for how guarded she is, but Ty Lee never gets criticism for how guarded she is. If you think her hyper femme, super perkiness and somewhat airheaded act isn’t a mask, you’re wrong.
- Urzai has great smut. They had great smutty fan art before tumblr banned all porn, but the smut fics live on!
- You can tell a lot about an Avatar fan by the way they talk about Mai or react to someone else talking about Mai.
And that’s it! Thanks for letting me say that! I hope it wasn’t too controversial.

Yes hi, I'd love to know more about your tourettes sokka hc if you're up for it 👀 I'm starving for tourettes hcs so 👀
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!! I can talk about this SO MUCH (I will warn now, there will be some Zukka in this) okay so I guess I’ll start at the beginning...
Sokka was six when he started showing symptoms
It started with just some motor tics but everyone kind of just attributed it to this kid has a lot of energy ahhh
It became more noticeable when he kept almost killing himself with weapons because of his tics and slight carelessness
That’s one reason why he loves boomerang so much, none of the other weapons felt right to him and they would always get in the way of his tics, but he could throw boomerang and it would come back to him so he could keep throwing it and it made him feel calm
Then, Sokka started saying stuff that he didn’t mean to say, but again, everyone was just like hyper kid because it’s not like he was doing anything wrong
But they realized something was up when Sokka started yelling “FIRE NATION” without intending to and sending the whole tribe in a panic
So, Hakoda took Sokka to a nearby trustworthy Earth Kingdom village and that’s where Sokka got diagnosed with Tourette’s (and ADHD)
One of the things with Sokka is touch, like, he feels like touch is constricting and restraining sometimes. The problem is, he LOVES touch, he is a touchy person, but when someone touches him without telling him first or asking him, he doesn’t like it.
Sometimes he mentally shuts down when it happens, sometimes he tics more, the reaction depends on his anxiety levels and who touched him and when and where
The only people he gave a pass to was Kya and Katara. He didn’t even like it when Hakoda put a hand on his shoulder.
It was weird, he could feel the difference when Katara and Kya touched him compared to anyone else and he felt bad because he wanted his dad to hug him, but it felt so wrong
So, Sokka loves touch, but he likes to initiate it
So, moving forward, Sokka and Katara meet Aang, he’s the Avatar, they join and you know, there’s Aang the Avatar, Katara the Waterbender, and Sokka the guy with Tourette’s on the team
At least, that’s how they are known amongst the Fire Nation
Going undercover is so fun for Sokka, but he also has to be really conscious of what he’s doing and what he says and trying to suppress
It takes a lot out of him, but he knows he literally has to do it or he could get caught or expose them and Aang or Katara could get caught
On occasion, he has tic attacks (and for those who don’t know, they’re essentially a really bad TS day or moment where your tics are more consistent and seem to hurt more or you just have like an unending moment of tics where you just can’t stop for a little while. They are usually caused by anxiety or overstimulation or something like that, but they differ for everyone with TS)
The first time it happened in front of Aang, the sweet child panicked because he didn’t really understand what was happening and why Sokka was doing that and really what TS was
Katara is an angel, seriously. She is so sweet to Sokka when this happens and she knows exactly how to ground him and help him get through it
(Seriously, Sokka appreciates her so much. She is genuinely the one exception and anytime she wants a hug or any kind of touch she is allowed to do it)
the first time it happens in front of Toph when she joins is in Bitter Work when Sokka was in the hole
Just looking at Sokka in the whole sends my anxiety up because he literally can’t move! So like, imagine being in a hole for like five hours+ and needing to move like physically and you can feel the sensation in your body and it hurts and burns and tingles but you can’t. Sokka is not having a good time
So, Toph drags him out of the hole and is freaked out because she can’t see what’s happening and it’s scary because Sokka is making noises and hyperventilating and his heart rate is through the roof and Aang ran to get Katara and she can’t touch him because when she pulled him out of the hole he shrieked
She’s cool with it after that, she doesn’t think of him any less or anything, but it terrified her the first time because no one told her he had TS because they forgot to mention it and she couldn’t see what was happening
We all know that Sokka loves Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors with his whole entire heart and once they kicked his butt and helped him learn that sexism is bad, they were so fun to work with?? They taught him their style, obviously, but they also helped him incorporate his TS into it and how to use it to his advantage, something he had been struggling with his whole life
One of the things Sokka loved most about Yue is that she never even mentioned his sounds or movements she just let him do it without questioning him and that doesn’t happen a lot
I feel like Sokka having TS would make his time with Piandao even kore meaningful because he really struggles to keep his hands still so sword fighting does not come naturally to him
Piandao loves it though because it just makes Sokka even more clever and resourceful and he takes his time with Sokka, helping him as much as he can and never getting angry or anything when he can’t stand still
He also added more to what Sokka learned from the Kyoshi Warriors about incorporating his TS into his fighting and using it to his advantage
Not only was his sword an extension of his arm, but his TS was an extension as well
Did Toph and Aang help Sokka incorporate his tics into their scams? Yes, yes they did
Zuko joining the team was weird for Sokka because they kind of just clicked and he realized that they both have a weird thing with touch
On the balloon to Boiling Rock, Sokka is just comfortable around Zuko and his tics are like “cool yeah, have a break” and so he doesn’t tic and Zuko just “why aren’t you ticcing?”
and Sokka is ??? “Huh?”
and Zuko “You usually tic but you aren’t now. Why?”
and Sokka essentially explains that TS is weird and random and sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, but he’s really comfortable and calm so his body is like “ye, let’s chill for now”
and Zuko is like “oh. that’s good. I kinda miss it though”
and Sokka d i e s because what?? Someone likes his tics enough to miss them? Like, they don’t annoy Zuko and he doesn’t tune them out?
and the bender goes on to explain that he likes the noises, they remind him that he is doing the right thing and that he’s here and he didn’t hurt team Avatar and they’re just comfortable / pleasing to the ear
and Sokka DIES
but then Zuko is like mmm maybe you should stay in the balloon and I’ll go to Boiling Rock and Sokka got pissed because he thinks Zuko said it because he’s a nonbender and he starts panicking and ticcing and Zuko panics and kind of just grabs his hand and Sokka... Sokka doesn’t hate it? Like, it feels nice and doesn’t agitate him?
but Zuko was like no I mean because everyone in the Fire Nation guard knows about the guy on team Avatar with TS and I don’t want you to get hurt
At one point in the prison courtyard, Sokka verbally tics really loudly about the moon and some guards hear and head to where they are so Zuko covers for him by screaming about how much he loves the moon
One of the worst moments in Sokka’s life was when Toph was falling and he grabbed her, but he wanted to tic and he knew that if he did, Toph would fall and die and he couldn’t do that, he couldn’t
(he still has nightmares about it happening)
when Sokka becomes an ambassador, some people are pissed because well 1) Watertribe 2) he’s a child 3) they suck 4) they think he’s distracting with his tics and Zuko is not here for it so he will destroy them
Like one time (after they started dating) Zuko overheard some councilors mocking Sokka’s tics and he got PISSED like so pissed and he went off and the found Sokka and hugged him because he is allowed to
oh! Sokka and Zuko’s thing is like hand-holding okay? They both kind of hate it because weird touch stuff, but it’s okay when they do it to each other?? Like, it feels right and like they’re completed and whole and it’s nice
before they start dating, they kind of do it a lot. Like, night before Zuko’s coronation, Sokka finds Zuko and he’s freaking out because what if he ends up like his dad and Sokka kind of just... grabs his hand and they sit there
Sokka is panicking because chronic pain and the cold of home makes it worse and Zuko finds him crying in the library and just... holds his hand
Zuko keeps little things on him all the time like paperclips and paper and writing utensils and things that click and buttons and stuff so if Sokka looks stressed during a meeting he can slip something under the table to him so he can play with it
Sokka also draws a lot during meetings, like, he doesn’t look at anyone throughout the whole meeting, even when he talks. He is able to focus more and pay more attention when he is doing something with his hands so he draws and doodles and sometimes takes notes
Sometimes he just writes the same word or sentence over and over again throughout the whole meeting
Sokka has sensory issues and a lot of noise stresses him out
It’s kind of the opposite of Zuko’s sensory issues? Like, Zuko doesn’t like loud noises and Sokka doesn’t like kind of static-y noises, like... when things sound muffled or muted or people are talking kind of quietly over each other
(Zuko definitely gives Sokka massages when his tics hurt a lot)
Random, but after awhile “yip yip” became a verbal tic of Sokka’s. Sometimes, he would say “you need to yip yip” and then he’d apologize to Appa and tell him that he’s yipping just fine
Toph is kind of like Zuko in how she likes Sokka’s verbal tics
She can’t see-see, but hearing his tics is nice sometimes, especially when she worries
She likes falling asleep to some of his tics
Even though Katara and Zuko are allowed to touch him whenever they want, more often than not they ask first because friendship is magic
Suki is lovely, okay? Like, just her presence is enough to make him feel better and she approaches helping him in a different way, she just talks to him and asks him questions to help him take his mind off of it
Sokka really doesn’t hate his TS, like, yeah, sometimes it pisses him off more than he can even explain, but it’s a part of him and as much as he cherishes when he can sit still, it’s wrong, it’s not him? He sits weirdly in chairs and changes his position every two minutes, he rocks his legs in his sleep, he sometimes even finds his own tics grounding...
Over time and with help from his friends, he learned to not be ashamed and that having TS didn’t make him ant less of a warrior
also, he, Toph, and Zuko are the disabled club✌🏻(and it makes them feel better sometimes in their own little way)
I have a lot more I could say but this is already pretty long, so I’ll end this sweet with Katara is amazing and Sokka’s relationship with her is wonderful and she knows how to help him with his tics in the way that Zuko does and can help center him like no one else and Sokka just loves her so much
Okay! Ah! That was kind of a lot but I hope you like them! Anyone can feel free to add more to this or lemme know if you have any ideas!
Thank you for the ask! I enjoyed writing these:)
