You Mess With Him, You Mess With Me (TW: Physical Assault)
So this fic... I don't know how to tag it. There isn't any actual domestic abuse in it but a character assumes that there is.
Summary: In which, Buck mistakingly assumes Eddie's new boyfriend is abusing him and punches him.
***
"So when are you two tying the knot?" Karen asked taking a sip of her wine.
They were at a BBQ at Bobby and Athena's place, and Buck and Tommy were currently hanging out with Hen and Karen.
Buck looked at Tommy and smiled brightly at his boyfriend of two years. "We haven't had that conversation yet, but I am hoping it's in the books."
"Oh, it's definitely in the books," Tommy replied, returning his smile, before kissing him.
Buck kissed him back and pulled away to lovingly look at him.
As they continued talking, Buck noticed Eddie walk out of the back door, hand in hand with his new boyfriend.
Eddie had come out as gay only a year ago and had been dating Alex, for the past 3 months. Alex was tall and slim, about the same height as Eddie, with light brown skin, a practically shaven head, and bright blue eyes. He was quite good-looking if Buck said so himself.
Buck frowned when he noticed something off about Eddie. "Does Eddie- does he have a black eye?" He asked.
"Hmmm?" Tommy looked over to where Buck was looking and Buck saw him frown, too. "It does look like a black eye."
"Oh yeah, that's definitely a black eye," Karen replied. "Wonder what happened..."
"I think I know what happened," Buck replied through gritted teeth. He pulled his hand away from where it was resting on the small of Tommy's back and clenched it into a fist. "Baby, can you hold my beer? I'll be right back."
"Where are you going?"
Buck heard Tommy ask but he didn't stop. He didn't stop until he reached Eddie and Alex, who were talking to one of the other guests.
"Buck, what's wrong?" Eddie asked worriedly
Buck kept his attention on Alex, "Eddie, how did you get the black eye?" He asked.
"Oh! Alex and I were sparring, and he accidentally hit me," Eddie replied.
Buck knew Eddie was lying and, without another word, he charged at Alex and tackled him to the ground. He raised his fist and punched him right across the face.
"BUCK!"
"EVAN!"
"What the fuck, man?!" Alex yelled under him.
Buck raised his fist again to hit him when he felt hands on him, pulling him away. "LEMME GO!" Buck yelled. "I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch!"
"Evan, stop!" Tommy tried holding him back.
Buck felt his anger rise when he saw Eddie helping Alex off the ground. He looked him over before glaring at Buck.
"What the fuck was that? What is wrong with you?" Eddie asked angrily.
"He hit you!" Buck replied.
"It was an ACCIDENT, Buck. He didn't hit me on purpose. Like I said, we were sparring, and he missed and hit me across the face," Eddie told him.
"Really?" Buck asked when he heard the sincerity in Eddie's voice and immediately felt bad.
Tommy's grip loosened around him.
"Yes! Alex would never hurt me. How could you even think that?" Eddie asked.
"I barely know the guy!" Buck replied. "We've never even hung out. Hell, forget him, you and I barely hang out since he came into the picture."
"Wait... Are you jealous?" Alex asked. "You have a boyfriend!"
"That's not what Evan meant," Tommy explained. "He's possessive of his friends, especially Eddie."
"Well, I don't know how I feel about that," Alex replied and took Eddie's hand in his.
"You get used to it," Tommy replied with a small laugh.
"Buck, if you are worried that we don't hang out more or if you wanna get to know Alex better, then you should have told me. Don't go around punching my boyfriend," Eddie told him.
"I- I'm sorry," Buck apologized.
"I'm not the one you should say sorry to," Eddie told him.
Buck sighed and looked at Alex. "I'm sorry, Alex. What I did was uncalled for."
"That's okay, Buck. I'm actually happy that you're this protective of Eddie." Alex wrapped an arm around Eddie and smiled at him.
Eddie smiled back and leaned in to kiss his boyfriend before gently touching his face where Buck had punched him.
"I think the four of us should go on a double date," Tommy suggested.
"I like that," Eddie replied.
"Now come on, let's go get some ice for Alex and your knuckles," Tommy said, taking Buck's hand and pulling him away.
As he left, Buck turned to look at Eddie and Alex and saw Eddie giving him a thumbs up. Buck smiled and returned his thumbs up.

Fire-fam kids Teenage Adventures: Influences
The way I pulled and Evan Buckley and did an ungodly amount of research to find out if Christophers age here was still somewhat reasonable. I pulled out my calculator! Trigger warning: shootings
Tumblr media
It had been a month and a few weeks after his first day of high school. Specifically at Theodore Roosevelt High. Sure Eddie had been more than a little worried, but Chris was confident he would be fine. Don't get it twisted, at first, he wanted to go to school with Denny and Harry. But after thinking it over, he decided it would be better to make connections on his own.
Buck was more than happy to let him try his own thing as long as he was being safe. After the painful slow burn, Eddie and Buck tied the knot and have been married for two years now. It was nothing but heaven. Of course, that didn't mean he wasn't scared his little boy was going off to high school.
"I declare you, officially a teenager. Welcome to angst and acne forever!" Harry had said that when Christopher's fourteenth birthday came up. Harry was already sixteen by now so he knew a thing or two. Denny, who was now fifteen, had recorded the interaction to show his girlfriend and Christopher's secret friend. Not really a secret but Eddie and Buck didn't know about him yet so it technically was a secret. There was a reason Christopher pushed so hard to go specifically to Theodore Roosevelt.
Manuel "Manny" Salvador Gutiérrez. Mouthful of a name to say at once. It's why he preferred going by Manny Gutiérrez. Harry and Denny met him when Chris invited them to the mall saying he wanted them to meet someone. Manny was the type of guy to be tough and stoic. To be known as the troubled kid who looked like could throw a mean punch(he could) and not get hit at all.
Always wearing worn-down Vans with slightly baggy jeans, sometimes ripped jeans, an oversized shirt with a jacket over. Or sometimes a graphic tee that color matched with his Vans and leather jacket.  He dyed hair at the ends, piercings(eyebrow and nose), and small tattoos because his mom let him.
Underneath that though, kid was a total dork. Once he warms up to you he's a complete softy. Like a big furry black dog. Looks intimidating, but is dopey at the sight of his favorite person. And that person was Chris. They had met in Junior High in math class, which was Manny's best subject. The teacher recommended extra credit to tutor Chris and since then they've been best friends.
"Wonder what's taking so long?" Eddie hummed in response at Chimney behind him. After learning they had a 24-hour shift, Hen, Chim, Buck, and Eddie had decided to carpool in the black minivan so it would be less gas on everyone. Noticing the time they got out, Buck texted Carla ahead to not worry about Chris because they would be able to pick him up.
"Not sure, he's usually out by now. The final bell rang like 20 minutes ago."
Looking around, he couldn't spot his kid. He'd begun taking on a different style of dressing recently. Drifting slightly away from bright colors but keeping his nerdy side. His hair was also slightly different. He had shaved sides that weren't vibrant but still shined. Wore more Converse than  Eddie had in his whole life.
Hen looked out through her window, which was closer to the school gates, and saw Chris walking out but without his backpack smiling.
"I see him at the gate but he doesn't have his bag." Buck and Eddie turned to look and were surprised that Hen was telling the truth. Chris had this thing with bags,  that if he didn't have it on him during school hours, he wasn't functional. That's when they saw a 5,6, light-skinned boy with purple-tipped hair in curls in a messy mullet, running up to their son with a backpack on his body and holding Christopher's bag for him on the other.
Eddie's eyes bulged, he barely even got to touch the bag, including Buck. He wondered how Christopher allowed the boy to hold his bag as carelessly as he was. As the two teenagers looked around, Christopher saw the minivan, smiled, and waved. The boy next to him doing the same. Buck, Chim, and Hen waved back smiling.
Not Eddie, he was still in shock and protective dad mode. As the boys walked over Eddie inspected the kid closer. He got a weird feeling and immediately disapproved. Then again he didn't know him so judgment was base level.
"Never would've thought Christopher hung out with punk rock kids," Chim commented making Hen snort and Buck smile while glancing at the back seat diagonal from him. Hen moved back through the open middle and sat in the very back seat. As the door opened, Eddie adjusted himself in the driver's seat so he could look at the pair better.
"Hey everybody!" Christopher said cheerfully.
"Hey!" Was the synchronized greeting. When nothing came out of Eddie except a soft smile, Chris raised an eyebrow but chose to ignore it for now. Turning to his friend while reaching for his bag Christopher spoke.
"Thanks again Manny, I'll text you when I get home." The blonde said whilst putting his bag on the floor of the van. Raising his hand waiting for Manny to do the same.
"Más te vale menso." He replied in Spanish while dapping up Chris. Walking away after Chris closed the car doors, he put on his headphones and walked off down the street.
"Who was that?" Christopher gained a weird expression, not because of the question in general, but because of the tone his dad used. Is he angry at Manny?
"My friend. Why?" Laughter came from the other three "adults" in the vehicle while Eddie started the van giving Christopher more confusion than before. After dropping off the other two firefighters at their respective homes, the family of three headed home. Once inside, Eddie wanted to start asking Chris about Manny but the person of interest interrupted with a phone call. Unintentionally.
"Hey, big man! How's the homework Garcia gave us? N-no! Oh, come on! Another Delta math-, I swear he secretly hates us-,..." The sound of conversation drifted away as Christopher dashed into his room for privacy. A small laugh pulled Eddie from his thoughts.
Turning around to glare at the man who he loved oh so much, but would very much beat up for making fun of him.
"What?"
"Yeesh, spicy Díaz, my favorite. Wish  I could have you to myself early." Buck sauntered over whilst pulling his lover in by the waist. Getting a petty pout from the shorter one.
"Siguele, aver como te va. Don't act like you're not worried either." Eddie sassed as he placed a soft kiss on Buck's lips, the latter happily reciprocating. Pulling away, smiling Buck sighed.
"Nah, especially cause I already knew." He informed his husband, who's eyes widened in shock. "I walk into Chris' room to put some clothes away and saw the Discord call open,... and their messages." Buck looks down somewhat shamefully.
If Eddie was immature, he would ask what the messages had said. However, today was not the day, he needed to know Buck's opinion. (He'll press him for details later when they go to bed) Smiling with jaw agape, he couldn't help but chuckle at his pale lover with blue eyes.
"So you're telling me that, you were judging me, for being too snoopy of my son.." burying his face against Eddie's shoulder to save embarrassment, "And you-!"
Laughing slightly cut him off, to be fair, he was laughing too.
"YoOU decided to SCROLL through our little boy's messages?? You?! The 'laid back' parent?!"
Cackling at this point Eddie was smiling uncontrollably whilst watching Buck wallow in shame.
"You guys okay?" Chris said smiling at how affectionate they were being peeking his head out of his door. The pair turned to look at their son. Damn, he'd gotten tall over the time he'd entered high school.
"Yeah, we're good bud. We're just laughing at something." Buck assured the blonde boy.
"Okay, hey is it okay if I go over to Manny's tomorrow after school? It's his birthday and we wanted to spend time together," Despite the emotional manipulation tactic(taught to him by Buck no doubt) Eddie caved and agreed to let him go, reluctantly, as long as he texted when they went anywhere different location-wise.
-------------------------------------------
So be it the next morning Christopher was gone for school earlier than Eddie and Buck were up for their 10-hour shift, and he got suspicious. The last time that happened Christopher made pancakes and burned Eddies. On purpose. Called it revenge for when he was a kid who couldn't fend for himself. He got noogied for a good bit after that one.
Looking at his phone after brushing his teeth, he saw a message from Chris. Saying he left early with some friends because they were stopping by the store near the school. They were grabbing snacks to eat in class because their teacher didn't care as long as they multi-tasked(they wouldn't), and finished their online notes(they won't).
Looking over his shoulder, Buck smiled in awe. He looked so proud of his son that it made Eddie's heart melt.
"He's growing up now huh?" Eddie nodded but stayed silent. Raising a brow in concern, Buck turned the shorter firefighter to face him and gently lifted his face with his index finger. Poor Papa Eddie, had small tears forming in his eyes. "Awh, Eddie, mi amor. It's okay."
If you think Buck didn't hold Eddie for a solid 3 minutes whilst rocking slowly from right to left? You're wrong. He even moved his hands against the man's face and kissed his forehead. Pulling back into the hug, Eddie nuzzled his head in Bucks' muscular figure.
"Don't forget he still needs us." Eddie knew that, but the thought of Christopher one day leaving to be on his own was terrifying.
-------------------------------------------
And need them he did. How did it go so wrong so fast? At first, it started like a normal workday. Mess with Chim and Ravi, gossip with Hen, work out with Lena, answer calls, and help Bobby make dinner. Stuff that was unexpectedly expected. That is till 1:30 when a call from a school. Saying that there was an active shooter in their walls.
"It's at Roosevelt," Bobby said without wanting to go into detail. Everyone in the back seat froze and gazed upon Eddie and Buck who quickly interlocked hands to try and pace their breathing to focus. "Think you can handle it?" Immediate nods from the pair answered. The others smiled solemnly.
Once arriving at the school they noticed police officers everywhere around the school, thank god, and students across the street on the far side of the park. They caught sight of Officer Morales, a good friend of Athena's, talking to the Principal.
Athena went up to them once seeing their arrival.
"Whoever it is, it's a student. The cameras Reid hacked showed no footage of anyone sneaking in on school grounds. I need you guys to go in and find some kids that are still in the building-" A loud series of gunshots were heard. People near but far enough away from the danger could be heard crying, yelling, or swearing. Reluctantly Athena looked to Eddie. "Christopher is in there still. Along with four others. We need to hurry. My group will flank left, you go right, I want this child caught."
Without wasting another second, and no time to fully think about what she said, the team applied bullet bulletproof vest underneath their jackets and broke a window to get in through the science labs. Walking around as silently as possible they tried finding the shooter without giving them a hint of an idea that they were inside.
Granted, shattered glass in an empty room isn't the quietest. Walking around Eddie's heart was beating quicker than ever. Of all things, why a shooter at his son's school? Then Eddie thought back to what Christopher had asked him yesterday. Poor Manny must think today's the worst birthday ever.
Hearing a crack, they froze. Getting ready to duck into cover in the classrooms or run across the hallway. The sound of running gets nearer, with a shadow then rounding the corner to face them. Manny.
The sigh of relief from the kid was the opposite of what the firefighters felt. The boy was covered in blood and his hair was more messy and gross from sweat. Bobby prayed that it was someone else's blood in an attempt to trick the shoot. Manny scanned each of them till running up to Buck and Eddie.
"I know where Chris is! Come on!" He whispered. Looking at the other firefighters he gave them information on where the shooter was. "She's on the top floor, I drove her away from where Chris was and looped around. She thinks I'm still up there."
So it was a girl. Snapping out of it Bobby radioed Athena and told her to meet upstairs to corner the shooter and catch her.
"Her?" Athena's surprised voice could be heard.
"She's the daughter of a gun shop owner. She must've been pissed enough about Monday morning to pull this," Monday? "Careful, it's not a pretty sight in room S-16." This poor kid. Following Manny down the hall he came from, they made it to the Library and headed to the back.
Digging through the ripped wallpaper, he opened up a hidden room. Inside Christopher was having a panic attack, holding a pair of long scissors. Once seeing Manny he dropped them and lunged into the taller kid's arms.
"Manny! Dads!" The boy said hugging his parents whilst his friend watched. Taking a good look at him, Christopher wasn't injured. Smudged blood from hugging Manny in the relief of seeing his friend alive.
"We gotta get them outta here," Buck said before shots were fired upstairs.
"Go, I need to find Angie. She's still in the upper bathroom. I saw her text." Manny told Christopher, almost forgetting the adults were still there. Seriously?
"No time, come on!" Eddie yelled and went to pick up Chris. But Manny was two steps ahead and grabbed his arm running away. Groaning Eddie and Buck ran after the pair. Eddie was cursing in his head, what the hell is wrong with him!? Putting them in jeopardy like this.
Seeing them stop abruptly, Manny pushed his arm against one of the fire escape doors. It looked like one of the other students propped it open to let others out in case they were still inside. When Eddie and Buck reached them, Eddie walked through the door and tried, key word tried, to drag them towards the truck.
"No, I need to get to Angie! She's still in there!" Manny yelled out trying to rip out of Buck's hold.
"Manny! She's gonna be okay, I know you don't trust law enforcement but these are good ones. They're my family," Chris calmed(reprimanded??) his friend and led him towards the truck. Once they got to the truck, Hen ran over to inspect the injuries on Manny while Eddie checked Christopher to double-check if he was injured or not. A thump broke the inspection though. Looking up, Eddie saw Manny lying down in the truck with Hen panicked.
"Manny!" Chris yelled, leaning over his friend trying to wake him up.
"Oh my god-, Eddie I need gauze for pressure, he was shot in the stomach!" Scanning the boy, he noticed the splotch of blood on his white shirt over the torso was getting darker. Also spreading and staining the vehicle along with the boy's jacket. A brief sight at the jacket let Eddie read out a name on a patch on his right arm. U.S. Navy Airforce it read.
"Shit! Buck! Grab Chris!"
"No! Buck let me go! Manny!" Chris yelled trying to break free from his pop's arms. Looking back at the scene the kid was barely breathing but needed serious medical attention quickly.
"We need to get him to the hospital. Now!" Nodding her head, Hen and Eddie transferred him to one of the ambulances and rode off to the hospital nearby.
"Stay with us kid, just a little longer!" Manny was looking around the ambulance looking at Eddie trying to respond to him. "No, no, no, don't talk, focus on breathing. I need you to stay with me! We're almost there!"
Looking out the window of the ambulance, Eddie's heart broke more. The sight of leaving Christopher behind in Buck's arms, still trying to break free and run after the ambulance. Eddie didn't doubt tears were streaming down his son's face.
-------------------------------------------
Later after arriving at the hospital and dropping the kid off, Eddie asked the nurses, whom he knew personally from all of his and his husband's escapades, to give him updates on Manny. She agreed relieved after inspecting the file quickly and said she'd let him know anything that happened.
After an hour of searching and a shot police officer, they were able to catch the girl responsible. Apparently, on Monday morning one of the teachers shamed her for her behavior. Saying it was her attitude wouldn't get her far in life especially because she didn't have a mom. the teacher didn't apologize and the people who she asked for help didn't do anything about it. That doesn't excuse the shooting and the lives it cost. The teacher she tried to get wasn't even hurt after the fact.
Parents were crying whilst firefighters and police officers consoled them. Returning to the scene for any additional tasks, Eddie scanned the area looking for his team. After catching sight of Buck and Chimney, he and Hen ran up to them.
"Where's Christopher?"
"Carla took him home, Bobby let me call her to make sure he was away from here," Buck said from behind him. Looking around slightly Eddie saw Ravi sitting on the curb with his head in his hands. "Ravi was up with some of the officers and Bobby trying to get the shooter. She aimed her gun at Ravi and a kid hiding in the corner jumped in front of him. It went right through his skull. Held him in his arms and took his parents into the building to mourn." Eddie grabbed Bucks' hand and walked up to Ravi.
This poor guy couldn't catch a break. Looking up, Ravi revealed his bloodshot eyes and pale face.
"It wasn't your fault," Buck said leaning on one knee with his partner copying. Putting an arm on the shoulder for comfort. Shaking his head, Ravi bit his lip to stop more tears.
"I'm sorry Buck, but right now I can't believe that. I don't think I ever will either."
After that Bobby told them all to go home and spend time with themselves and their families. Once opening the door to their house, Eddie and Buck were tackled into a hug by their son and then a softer one from Carla. After she left, Eddie gave Christopher an update on Manny. He was stable but wouldn't leave the hospital for a few days.
"Do you know his parent's phone number? I don't know if they followed to the hospital after getting a phone call." Chris gained a pained expression and rubbed his eyes, pushing his glass up in the process, before responding.
"They aren't home, they're in Miami. They're truckers, so they're never really around." Eddie took a glance at Buck who was looking down at the table saddened even more. "They're good people, just not around a lot. He was mainly with his uncle till last year. I can't say more than that, it's personal and should come from Manny."
-------------------------------------------
The next morning school was canceled for the next two weeks. Along with encouragement for parents to seek therapy for their kids. Chris already had one, but Manny had become a concern now in Eddie's mind. Birthday at the same time as shooting and almost dying was not a good combo.
"When Madison pulled out her gun she was in the English room. Me and Manny were walking down the hall from turning in papers when we heard the gunshots. We thought something loud hit the floor till she came out, saw us, and shot. I froze, but Manny reacted and shielded himself in front of me. Grabbed my hand and booked it downstairs. I was able to pull the fire alarm in time whilst someone else called the cops. Angie was the one that wasn't in the room so she dialed 9-1-1." By the end of retelling the incident, Chris was sobbing in his father's arms, trying to speak but couldn't.
After a small breakfast, they all headed to the hospital and saw the multitude of parents in the waiting room. Some with tears, others with anger on their face. Some blank.
"Why are we here?"
"This is where we brought Manny, figured you'd want to see him. Plus he deserves a good party for his birthday. Sixteen's a big one." Chris brightened up at the idea but went back to somber at the idea of Manny connected to tubes keeping him alive.
"Hey there, you visiting that kid you brought in yesterday?" the same nurse from the other day asked. Smiling Eddie nodded, holding up a bag with a cake inside. They stopped at the store quickly to buy a mini one. Eddie hoped he loved carrot cake. It was the only one they had.
"If that's okay. Don't wanna overwhelm him after yesterday." Buck coaxed, probably trying to subtly tell Chris they might not let him in due to not being on the emergency list.
"Yeah, honestly better you three than no one at all." That brought frowns to Eddie and Buck. His parents weren't home yet then. Going up the elevators and walking the halls down, they got to the room. Taking a deep breath Chris opened the door and saw Manny awake looking at something on his phone. Looking up he visibly relaxed yet still looked worried. Meanwhile, Chris was just happy to see his friend alive running over to hug him.
Buck had his arm over Eddie's shoulder and leaned his head on the latter. This kid wasn't so bad. And he deserved so much better than what the universe handed him this week.

Fire station 118
Chapter one — Starting over
Pairing : Tommy Kinard x original male character named Braxton Kingsley
Summary : After that disaster of a night, Braxton packed his belongings and flew out of New York.
What if Braxton Kingsley’s the one to take over Tommy’s spot at the fire station 118. And what if instead of becoming a firefighter, Evan “Buck” Buckley was the proud owner of a bar in downtown Los Angeles.
Ratings & warnings : Explicit 18+, minors dni.
Words count : 1.8k
Tumblr media
Tucked away in the far corner of a certain bar called Heaven’s on earth with his hand curled loosely around a glass filled with their cheapest whiskey, Braxton Kingsley’s looking around, avoiding anyone’s gaze. His eyes trained on the tiny television playing an old football match, the poor signal gives the picture a grainy quality and breaks up the audio—not that it actually matters—with the classic rock blasting over the crackling speakers and a few of the customers screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs.
Karaoke bar. This was definitely not a place where he imagined himself sitting in two years ago.
“Hey.” Braxton glances up to stare into the sparkling blue eyes of the owner of this fine establishment, and unfortunately one of his closest friends, Evan Buckley. “You seem more miserable than usual. Bet you could use another drink.”
“Good evening, Buck. I’m doing just fine, thanks for asking, asshole.” He dramatically pushes the glass towards the other man with one finger, and Evan fills it up with a smirk. “I just drove over twenty five hours, I’m fucking starving, need a goddamn shower and a much needed good night of sleep.” As the owner pulls the bottle back, Braxton snatches up the glass and guzzles as much of the burning liquid as he can without choking.
God, how he misses the taste of a good bottle like the English Sherry Cask. This Jack Daniels is hideous, he thinks.
“It’s a good evening indeed, right. The weather was really nice today.” The man sucks his teeth and gives his friend a sympathetic look. “Was it really that bad? I mean come on, last time I checked on you, you were living the American dream.” Evan Buckley has never been one to ponder his words before speaking. He’s more of a speak now, think later kinda guy. And Evan’s still fairly young, he has so much more to learn and experience as a person, Braxton could never truly be upset about his behaviors.
The ex-businessman groans, letting his head fall onto the sticky table with a thunk. “That was over two years ago, you dumbass. And I had to leave that shithole, couldn’t bear the thought of staying up there mother minute after the truth was out.” Buck makes a sound in the back of his throat, suddenly uncomfortable and very aware of what he just said, a feeling of guilt settling deep in the pit of his stomach. He should’ve reached out more often, or sooner in that case, especially after the multiple articles he read on the internet. He should’ve been a better friend, he thinks. But like everyone, he got caught up with his responsibilities as a new owner and the lady of stable employees didn’t help. That and the dozens of failed relationships he went through in the last year. “Spent the last two years in Arkansas, signed up to the fire academy over there, recently graduated and got assigned to the fire station 118 over here.”
“You can stay at mine as long as you need, y’know. At least until—” Braxton suddenly sits up and waves a hand at his friend, silencing him with a simple gesture. Evan shrugs, playfully rolling his eyes. “Alright, fine. But you can’t say I didn’t try to help your stubborn ass.”
Braxton shoots him a glare, sipping on his whiskey again. “You know I have enough money to buy a house right? Hell, with the amount that I have in my bank account I can definitely book a nice and luxurious hotel room for the next forty years.” He softens his voice at the look in his friend’s eyes. Evan Buckley isn’t one to openly admit when he’s hurt, but Braxton knows him well enough—they’ve been friends for over ten years—to read those beautiful eyes. He gives the man a tight lipped smile, his jaw tight and heaves a sigh. “It’s not about bragging, nor—look, it has nothing to do with you. I love you, you’re like a brother to me and you know it. But I’m too old to sleep on someone’s couch.”
Buck cuts him off with a wave of his hand too. “Yeah, I know. S’fine.” He then gives him a small smile—one of the ones he reserves for the rare drunken nights spent on Braxton’s couch while visiting the big city, when the sun was set and all that was playing on television were bad n’intimes sitcoms reruns, and that feeling of being the only two in the world enveloping them both until the next day—“But if you need someone to show you around, or anything at all really, I’m your guy. You can call me at any time of the day or night and I’ll show up like the knight in shining armor coming to rescue the damsel in distress. I’ll try my damndest to make your wishes come true, city boy.”
How Braxton wants to believe every single word his friend just said. But it’s out of the question, because Braxton’s deep desire right now is to be able to go back to the man he once was two years ago. “It’s a damn shame though. That you went and signed up to the fire academy. You could’ve worked for—with me. We could’ve been work-married.”
That seems to put back a smile on Braxton’s lips, not the ones that reach his eyes, but enough for both men to laugh at Buck silliness.
And Braxton’s thankful for it.
The newly recruited firefighter shakes his head and reaches over the table to clink his glass with the almost empty bottle of Jack Daniels that Buck’s still holding. “To new beginnings, you dickhead!”
“Welcome home Braxton.”
*****
Twiddling his ballpoint pen between his fingers, Braxton lowers his gaze on the local newspaper in front of him. Jaw tickling as he’s trying not to direct his frustration at the mother beside his table—whose daughter can’t stop whining because she didn’t get the chocolate chip muffin she’s se desperately craving—he resumes his reading, circling in a dép shade of red the houses that seem decent enough.
And there isn’t a lot, strangely, considering the fact that he’s in Los Angeles.
He’s pulled from his thoughts of the horrifying and non successful house search by someone calling out his name and he looks up to see a joyful Batista holding a plain iced coffee. Relief. Smiling back a bet like she’s the savior of the day, the man rushes to the front to grab the cup and makes an escape outside, not wanting to hear another minute of the little girl’s tantrum.
Sighing, he shoves the one and the newspaper in his backpack as best as he can while holding his iced coffee. “I fucking hate kids.”
Braxton shuffles through the back pocket of his pants until his fingers touch a cool metal box. He pulls it out of the soft material and flicks the cap—thumb runs itself down the side of the lighter—a small flame explodes from the top. The smell instantly dances around him, the scent of thick smog enveloping his every sense. Like a puzzle piece, the cigarette seems to fit perfectly between his thin fingers, like two old friends reconnecting, making up for lost time. The man touches it to hula lips, letting the art flow into his breath—his breathing grows relaxed—with every inhale follows an exhale of wondrous patterns. His eyes close with ease and he continues to breathe in the silence.
He can’t remember the last time he was able to just take a walk around the block and enjoy the rays of sunlight hitting in face.
“Ah, there you are, city boy!” Buck appears out of nowhere, a brown paper bag tucked under his right arm. “I told you I would be your knight in shining armor.. even got the weapon.”
“What’s in the bag, loser?” Another exhale, the smoke finding its way with the wind.
“Kinda ironic that you’re about to save lives, put out fires and what not, and yet you’re smoking. Is it even legal for a firefighter? Anyways, I bought some pastries from that shop a few streets away. I swear they're the best.” Evan seems too excited, matching the energy of a golden retriever. “How’s house hunting going by the way?”
Braxton pouts, dropping his head. “There’s nothing. At least nothing that’s close enough to the station and fits my criteria.”
“Knowing you city boy, you might want to lower your expectations. But it might change real soon. How about you come with me, there’s places we need to go and a special someone you need to meet.” And Evan doesn’t bother waiting for his friend as he turns on his heels, whistling a familiar melody.
“What the fuck you mean by lowering my expectations? I’m not looking into buying a mansion. I’m simply asking for something located in a nice area that’s close enough to the station so I don't have to be stuck in traffic every damn time I gotta go to work.”
*****
Braxton’s a grown man, for god’s sake. He dealt with misogynist assholes on a daily basis for five years and was the proprietor of one of the biggest corporations in North America. And yet here he is, standing in front of the fire station 118 with sweaty palms, a heart rate running a mile and an uncomfortable feeling sterling deep in his guts.
“You can do this, motherfucker. You’ve been training for this shit show for twenty months.”
The show must go on, as they say. But Braxton can’t seem to move, feet glued to the sidewalk.
Tightening his hand on the strap of his shoulder bag, Braxton tries not to let the anxiety win over his entire being, even if it feels like it already did. The newly recruited firefighter closes his eyes, taking a few deep breaths to calm the pounding of his heart against his ribcage.
“You got this Braxton.”
“You look like a lost deer that’s just been thrown into the lion’s den. You must be the new probie. Name’s Howard Han, or Howie. But everyone around here’s calling me Chimney.”
Chimney, what an interesting name, he thinks.
“Oh, umm—names Braxton Kingsley. Pleasure to meet you Howie.” Both men shake hands, Braxton’s nerves instantly calming at the sight of the reassuring smile Howard’s giving him. A silent I know how it is, I was in your shoes once too. Everything’s gonna be fine. “Alright probie, how about you stop looking and actually walk in so I can introduce you to the team.” Howie’s walking back inside the station, hands in his pockets and laughing loudly.
Braxton gathers all the courage that’s left in him and follows the shorter man. “Bobby, probie’s here!”
He definitely feels like a five years old kid on his first day at kindergarten, looking everywhere and not knowing where to look at the same time. Braxton’s inspecting the trucks and their vibrant red colors, the second floor where everyone gathered to welcome him properly, the gym area he can’t wait to use and the lockers room. He’s amazed by all of it.
“I’m Bobby Nash. Welcome to 118, Braxton.”

The Little Nash: Buddie's Girl
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Callie: So, guess who is back in my life.
Dazja: I thought he lived in Texas. When did he move and why is he a firefighter. Not that I am complaining about that. Wait, are you going to connect both books?
Callie: I think so. Plus, it would make life easier for me. Though Eddie found out I wrote some spicy scenes, and he wasn’t happy. But that other guy who I was thinking about making the other love interest, seemed to calm Eddie down. He is totally cool with a love interest.
Dazja: Just be careful. Don’t get feelings like you did last time.
After that I didn’t respond to her. Eddie had been someone I was close to, but feelings were something I never accounted for. I was normally good at keeping myself at arm’s length from those I was working with. Eddie just broke through so many walls I held up, but I couldn't start anything. Luckily at the time he was married, and I didn’t worry about that. Now I have no idea if those feelings will return or if Buck will be the new person they will go too. I pray for neither or hell even both.
I got up for the day and started to look for my old files on Eddie. I made it a mission to learn everything I can about the people I write about to make it seem more real and less like interviews. It helped to humanize some of the soldiers who didn’t have much of a personality except that they needed to protect others.
I found the file I was looking for, the one about his wife Shannon. I figured that I needed to update the file seeing as if Eddie was in LA, she was too. I looked up her name and LA in a search bar. What I learned saddened me. She died. Eddie must have been devastated. I decided to look up the case file from her death. I needed to get access to that.
As if someone knew I was doing research, there was a knock on my door. Okay no one knew where I lived yet. But when I opened the door, there was my brother and a woman I wasn’t sure who she was. I let them in and asked if they wanted anything.
“Callie, this is my wife, Athena.”
“You got married again?”
Bobby only nodded. I didn’t waste anytime and hugged her and welcomed her to our weird ass family. She seemed surprised by how okay I was with them not inviting me to the wedding. I had no issue with it mostly because I was too busy writing my novel at the time I wasn’t really talking to anyone except my editor.
Bobby promised that the three of us would get together and have dinner. I agreed as long as he didn’t mind, I used it as an interview for my new book. Athena looked at me with confusion. I told her about my new idea and how the two male love interests were going to be based on Buck and Eddie. Which was the first Bobby heard about.
“No.”
“My book, my rules. Besides, Buck already agreed, and Eddie has given me permission to use his likeness and or his personality in any novel I write.”
Athena just gave Bobby a look, which I read as ‘your sister is sassy, and I like her.’.  I high fived her for her support. We all sat down to have some breakfast before Bobby’s shift started. As we ate, I was glad to have a sister-in-law who didn’t take any of Bobby’s shit. At one point Bobby went to the restroom and I got a chance to talk to Athena alone.
“How the hell did my brother get to be with an amazing woman? Like seriously, he has no game at all, and the man has some fucking issues.”
“It just happened. We decided to give it a shot after an interesting call about a man on a motorcycle. Besides that, everything about us has been good. Your brother is a good man who has been through hell and back.”
“I know he is. He just worries about me sometimes. We didn’t talk for a long time after I left to work as a journalist who wrote about overseas missions. That’s how I know Eddie. I was embedded with his team on his last tour.”
“Bobby told me about that. I read some of your articles from your time there. You never used anyone’s name. Why?”
“Its their story to tell, if they want to put their name on it that’s not my decision to make.”
Before I could say anything else, Bobby came back. I told her we would talk later. Athena just laughed. Bobby told me that if I planned on going in today, that I should get ready before he left and he would drive me to the firehouse. I told him to just go on without me. I had to do something first. Athena asked what I needed to do. Grabbing my laptop, I showed them my google search about Shannon. Bobby was the first to speak up. He told me not to talk about her around Eddie. Like I was planning on bringing more trauma to his life than he has already been through.
After talking to them about what I needed to know about Shannon’s death, I was glad I never mentioned that Diego, the character based on Eddie, had a wife. I had written about a son, but never a wife. Which I can easily explain in this new book. My heart broke for Eddie, he was a good man who had more love to give than he was given. The few times I talked to Shannon without Eddie’s knowledge; I hated her. Though I understood what she was the way she was about Christopher. She had no clue what it was like to have a child with a disability.
I walked the two of them out. Before I could get dressed, I started crying. Eddie needed someone in his life who could be not only his rock but also good with Christopher. Though I knew that crying for a man who didn’t want to talk to me right now was pathetic, I cared about him. I got myself composed and got ready to be in interview mode.
Getting to the fire house wasn’t that hard, but getting out of my car was. Just as I was going to open my door, I saw Eddie’s truck. Taking a few deep breaths, I opened my door and walked toward him.
“Eddie?”
“Calliope.”
“Okay I deserve that. Listen, I promise I never meant to keep those scenes from you. It just never felt like the right time to bring them up. After everything that happened to us in Afghanistan, I figured that you didn’t want to talk about anything relating to your time there. I promise to try and make this up to you. The first step for that is informing you that the next book will be a sequel which makes the series into a why choose romance. Diego will still be there, but Stella, the female lead, will have another male who takes interest in her. He will be based on Buck.”
“WHAT?! First you write scenes with basically you and me. Now its going to be you and Buck?”
Before I could explain anything, Eddie walked away, leaving me standing there like an idiot. Slowly, I walked to the lobby to check in with Bobby. Almost immediately he knew something was wrong. I just shook my head and told him to drop it. As I started setting up in one of the spare offices, Buck entered. He looked like he wanted to apologize for something.
“Eddie’s response to what the plans are for my novels are valid for him. Though he didn’t let me explain that it wasn’t just scenes that he thinks I am going to write. The character that is going to be based on you will be having some sex scenes that are with my female lead. Eddie thinks it means something more than it is.”
Buck tried to help me understand where Eddie was coming from. Though I suspect it has more to do with not wanting his teammate in a foul mood at a scene. I thanked him for listening and asked when we could do our first interview session. The word session messed with Buck a little. He seemed annoyed by it. I just laughed at his face.
“Guessing you don’t like the thought of therapy? That is kind of what interviews are though. At least in my experience.”
“Just don’t want people to see me in the wrong light.”
“Buck, the interview is just for me. Its to help me pick details for your character. I might even show you the first one I did with Eddie some day. With his permission of course. Consent is sexy.”
My final sentence made Buck laugh. We talked for a bit and got to work on scheduling his first interview. Learning about Buck was nice. He had a good heart and I was hoping to reflect it in the novel. The bell rang and they all went out. Eddie was the man behind for the first half of the shift. Which was just fantastic.
I distanced myself from him and started working on an outline for the story. We weren’t going to be talking anytime soon with his attitude the way it was, but I still held hope that he would let me explain.
Around lunch, once the team had returned, Bobby made burgers. He asked me and Buck to help make some sides. I worked on making fries, regular and sweet potato ones, while Buck made macaroni and potato salads.
“Why do people eat those? Mayonnaise is disgusting except in a few circumstances.”
“You don’t like mayonnaise? How are you Bobby’s sister?”
“You have no idea how many times I was asked that growing up. Minnesota is brutal when it comes to their salads. Though I think it has something to do with my mom being from Oregon. She was a character.”
Buck grabbed the salads as we walked to the table. He apologized if talking about my mother was difficult. Shrugging was my response. It wasn't hard to talk about her, it was more living with the memories of her and the ones i won't be able to share with her.
We got the table all set up just as Bobby finished the last of the burgers. I waited until everyone else had gotten their food before getting mine. Figuring I wasn't welcome to sit with the 118 family, I started to walk back to the office I was set up in.
Bobby asked me where I was heading. Gesturing to the office, he told me to sit down. Buck waved me over and I sat next to him. Eddie was on his other side. I thanked whichever god was watching over that Buck didn’t make me sit between the two of them. Lunch was a nice change of pace. Howard, who told me to call him Chim or Chimney, asked what the plans were for my time here.
“Well, once I have enough information from all of you guys, I'll probably leave until the book is done. No distractions. Though that is just the plan as of right now.”
“You'll leave like always” Eddie’s voice held a venom i wasn't surprised by.
“Edmundo, do we need to have a private conversation now, or wait until we schedule a time for an interview?”
“You are going to interview me again?”
“Yes, you have changed. Why wouldn't I want to know what has changed and what is the same.”
My comment shuts Eddie up for the time being. Buck lightly squeezes my hand under the table. The gesture was welcomed, but surprising. I tried to ignore the looks Bobby and Buck were giving me. But Bobby was the one I was more worried about. He never wanted me to date a firefighter.
I stopped talking after my staring contest with my brother. There was nothing worse than when Bobby got over protective. Especially after what happened in Minnesota.
After lunch, I went back to the office I was set up in, to work on setting up a schedule for who is doing interviews when as well as when I wouldl be shadowing the team to better understand what they do on calls. Bobby used to try and tell me, but I was bored most of the time. Never felt the need to know.
After roughly twenty minutes, Athena came to the door. She informed me that Bobby had asked her to check on me. Rolling my eyes, I shook my head.
“He wants to know what Eddie meant at lunch. I don’t want to talk about it. Besides, Eddie can’t say anything about my leaving when he was the one to… Nevermind, it’s in the past.”
“Eddie lead you on?”
“No, I got romantically invested, and I needed space. I think he thought I wanted to leave before their mission was finished. Which was not the case at all. The longer I was with them, the harder it was going to be for me to leave. Honestly I would have gone to Texas with him.”
Athena understood what I was impling with my confession. “Have you ever told him?”
I shook my head. He was married and I wasn’t going to be a homewrecker. Looking back now, Eddie always asking me about my personal life just as much as I was asking about his. Before I could tell her anything else, Buck walked in. I realize everyone was back. I thank Athena for listening. She gave Buck a pat on the shoulder as she left.
“I don’t want to talk about it. Eddie and I are a complicated friendship.”
“Good, because I asked Bobby a question. Now I am going to ask you one.”
“Buck?”
“Have dinner with me tonight?”

~~~ Imagine ~~~
The boys are sat at the table with the rest of the 118 family and everyone keeps asking where you were? Then your boys move like lightening as you walk in to the station and slowly up the stairs baring the weight of the newest 118 family member as you slowly approach your due date. Both of them resting their hands on the large bump sharing a look of nothing but pure love and pride as they both quietly whisper “our reason” 💕
I don’t even know what this is 😂
Sinboud- Chapter 1
Summary: We see what everyone has been up to since Chapter 24 of Right Person, Maybe Wrong Time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s been around 4 months since I told Eddie about my pregnancy and things have been going great. A house opened up near Alex and Christopher’s school and we were able to quickly purchase and move into it. Thank god for a recession and royalty checks. I’m around 5 months pregnant and now my stomach is a little hard to hide. So I’m always being petted by my boyfriend, kids, family, friends, and even strangers. It’s “amazing”. The morning sickness, which I never understood why they call it that if it’s all day, came and went. Now, I’m just around the house all-day complaining about swollen ankles, and a sore back. Don’t even get me started on my boobs, I mean if I lay on my back long enough I’m 100% sure they're gonna choke me out. Everyone has adjusted to living together and our routines have developed. Eddie is on morning duty. He has to wake up the kids, shower, wake the kids up again, start breakfast, make sure they're dressed properly and they brush their teeth, make them eat, then take them to school. Oh and of course my morning kiss, while I’m still half-asleep. I’m on afternoon and night duty. Which is pretty much making dinner, making sure they shower, and they head to bed on time. Ever since I told Eddie I was pregnant he’s been really concerned about my diet. He tries to make me eat “healthier” which means he’s tried to deny everyone in the house of snacks and sweets. Except now that he’s a firefighter again, he’s not always here. So I can eat my cravings of philly cheese steak sandwiches with Oreo Ice cream in peace. All and all, things have been great.
Buck invited everyone over for dinner tonight so we were all huddled up in his dining room waiting for him to finish cooking. Buck was kind of just talking aloud when he directed a question towards Eddie. “So it doesn’t bother you?“ Eddie looked up from his game with Alex and Christopher confused. “That Bobby didn’t even consider either one of us for interim captain?”
“Not really. Just got back to the 118. Clearly it’s bothering you.” Eddie said.
“Listen, don’t get me wrong, I think Lucy is whatever.” Buck started.
“Understatement of the year but sure.” I said.
“Y/n, shh. She’s great but she’s out. You know, I think it’s weird that he’s struggling to pick a replacement when he has so many excellent options right under his nose.”
“Like you?” Eddie asked.
“Naw, I think he’s talking about Chim or Hen.” I replied.
“Haha. I’m serious. It’s like he’s choosing not to see them and everything they have to offer.”
“Time.” Eddie called in reference to the game him and the kids were playing. “Aw, y’all win next time.” He turned back to Buck. “What are you offering?”
“Right now, Bobby’s famous lasagna.”
“And his handsome face.” I said in a teasing manner.
“Yeah, that too.” Buck said, playing along with the joke. “This lasagna has 6 types of cheese and it’s cooked to perfection.” He grabbed the lasagna out of the oven and brought it over to the table. “Okay, very hot. Don’t use your hands.”
“Is it just my pregnancy or is that making anyone very hungry?” I asked,
“It does look good.” Eddie said.
“Smells really good, too.” Christopher confirmed.
“It only took me three tries to get it right.” Buck said.
“I’m not sure you get three tries on the job. At least not without a significant body count.”
“I just want to know what these other candidates have that apparently I don’t.” Buck questioned.
“Buck, you don’t even have a couch.” Christopher teased. Everyone besides Buck started to giggle at his remark.
“Seriously dad, it’s getting sad.” Alex added.
“What does that have to do with being fire captain?”
“Nothing…” Alex said.
“...It’s just plain weird.” Christopher said, finishing Alex’s statement. Everyone chuckled again.
“My last two couches came with girlfriends.”
“I think you mean your last two girlfriends came with couches. Taylor moved out, what, 4 months ago, Buck? You could have replaced the couch by now.” Eddie said.
“Uh, well, maybe I don’t want to pick the wrong couch again.” Buck replied.
“Maybe that’s how Bobby feels about interim captain.” Eddie said.
“Listen Buck, I have no idea how this whole thing works or what the criteria is but I’m sure Bobby not choosing you doesn’t have anything to do with your performance as a firefighter or anything else. I mean look at everyone around you. They’re all extremely qualified. Just relax.”
“It’s easier said than done.” Buck said.
“You know what isn’t? Feeding us. Let’s eat.” Alex called out.
“Fine, fine. Hold your horses.” We all ate dinner and made small talk here and there.
Tumblr media
Eddie’s POV
Chimney was telling us about the situation between Maddie and him and when he turned to me for advice. “Oh don’t ask me. I once asked Shannon to sneak out of my house so Christopher couldn’t see her. Plus Y/n and I did that all the time.”
“You see? Compared to that, I’m as chivalrous as Sir Galahad.” Chimney said.
“Or as delusional as Don Quixote. I don’t understand. Isn’t this what you’ve been wanting? What the two of you been working towards?”
“It is, it just feels like I’m waiting for…something.”
“Well all those times Y/n and I were sneaking around. We both told ourselves it was to protect the kids or Buck. The truth is deep down we were just protecting ourselves.”
“What’s wrong with that?” Chim asked.
“You didn’t skip the morning after conversation, Chim. You delayed it.” Bobby replied.
“And you added a whole new complicated layer.” I said.
“I had a one-night stand with my ex. I don’t know what the rules are.” Chim explained.
“Maybe that’s what you need to find out.” Bobby said.
Tumblr media
Buck’s POV
Alex was spending the night which she rarely does now due to the new house and the baby on the way.  I was getting dinner situated when Alex began to talk.
“Dad?”
“Yes, sweetheart?” I turned to face Alex.
“If I ask a question, do you promise you won’t get mad?”
“What?  Why would I get mad at you for asking a question?”
“I don’t know. Sometimes adults don’t like when kids ask them questions. Can you just promise?”
“Of course, I promise. Wassup?”
“Do you still have feelings for my mom?” She looked down at the counter.
“Uhh…” I wasn’t sure how to respond.
“I promise I won’t tell anyone. It’s just you seemed sad when I told you mom was pregnant and now with you not getting captain…”
“Hey, kiddo, you don’t have to worry about that. I’m okay.”
“I just don’t want you to be sad. I would come over more it’s just that I like Chris and Eddie. Not more than you, but still. Plus the baby, she’s growing more and more by the day.”
“She?”
“Well, we don’t know yet but I think it’s a girl. Chris thinks it’s a boy. If it is, I'm literally gonna gag.”
“Alex, just be happy for a little sibling.”
“I am. It’s just that I would prefer a girl.” I let out a chuckle. “Seriously, dad are you okay?”
“Alex, I’m okay. I don’t like you mom. At least not in that way. She’s with Eddie and they’re having a baby, and I’m getting used to being on my own. Well not alone, I’ve got you.”
“You’ve still got mom to dad.” She wrapped her arms around me.
“Yeah, I got her too.” To be honest, I was still head over heels in love with Y/n but she’s with Eddie, and as his best-friend I needed to be happy for them. No matter how much it hurt me.
I’m back! How’s everyone? There’s a lot in store for this season but it will no doubt be shorter than the other book.
Canon Pairings, Buck/Eddie — Mistletoe kiss
It’s almost Christmas so I’m looking for some Christmas time fluff!
Easy peasy prompt: minifill or quick snippets of Athena/Bobby, Hen/Karen, Chim/Maddie, and Buck/Eddie each having a kiss under the mistletoe.
Buddie can be pre relationship or established. Any setting (although I personally pictured a strategically placed sprig of mistletoe at a Grant-Nash Christmas BBQ).
+ Extra points for Albert and Ravi too! (Albert/Ravi or them with OCs, I don’t mind.)
NEIGHBOURS
Tumblr media
Fandom: 911 (fox)
Pairings: eventual Buck x OC
Words: 773
Description: The 118 gets sent on an unusual call
"911, what's your emergency."
"It's my fucking neighbours again! There doing some satanic ritual in their yard! There's a huge fire which I know they don't have a permit for and they’re trespassing and they're naked! Come now!"
::
When the 118 drove up to the farmhouse they knew this would be a crazy call. People dancing around a fire naked, doing a satanic ritual? It was bound to turn out weirder than normal.
Buck was the first to hop out of the truck, he may be changed, but he was more than exited to see what was going on. The ambulance was called as a precaution in case they really were sacrificing somebody.
The group could see a pale light coming from beyond the trees and smoke rising above, they followed the light into the woods and behind the house, all the way out into a field shrouded by brush.
Buck peaked his head through the trees and couldn't believe his eyes. About 10, maybe more, women dressed in white gowns dancing around a bonfire. His eyes widened in wonder.
They all watched as a woman approached from afar, walking up to the women. Buck was amazed, she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen.
Fair skin, dark hair and even darker eyes. An effigy of sorts was held in her hands, a doll made of straw and decorated with bits of fabric. Their eyes never left her or the woman as she through the doll into the fire.
"C'mon guys, let's break this up. LAFD! We got a call about a fire!" Bobby yelled out.
The group of women broke out into whispers as the group trampled through the bush to get to the girls. The one who's thrown the doll was the first to step away and address the firefighters.
"There's a path to your right, you could've used that instead of trampling our trees to death." The women started to move away from the fire, whispering to each other and crowding around the fierce woman.
"I got this," Buck said as he gave Bobby a pat on the back and stepped in front of him. "We got a call about a group of naked women doing a satanic ritual around a huge fire with no permit on private property." He smirked at the brunet as he spoke.
A red headed girl behind her scoffed and pushed her way forward.
"Satanic! Really! Screw you bro! That is so-!" The brunet interrupted her and held a hand up in surrender to stop her from charging forward.
Buck flinched back, obviously he'd said the wrong thing. Bobby rubbed the bridge if his nose and rolled his eyes.
"Lilly! Let me." She spoke confidently before turning back to the offending party. "First of all, we aren’t satanists, we're pagan. Secondly, we are not and never will be naked, that's an accident waiting to happen. Thirdly, this fire has a permit and finally this is private property, our private property, we're allowed to be here."
"We're gonna need to see that permit." Bobby said sternly. The girl looked him up and down with her eyes, sizing him up.
"Fine, follow me, on the path this time." She said sharply. The whispering group of women waited for the other group to go first before all but two followed, staying to watch the fire.
::
The large group was ushered into a small farmhouse. The brunet girl was the first inside, quickly scampering into the kitchen, grabbing the permit off the kitchen table.
Buck just now noticed she had no shoes on, glancing around at the other women he notice they too were barefoot.
"Here you go sir, perfectly valid permit. Would you all like some tea?" She asked kindly, finally getting a chance to look at the group of intruders.
"No that alright we should be go-."
"I would love a cup of tea." Buck replied with a smile.
"Alright one cup of tea for..." she trailed off, waiting for his name.
"Buck, and you are?" He stepped forward, shaking her hand softly while smiling.
"Everyone calls me Magpie." The work seemed to stop and Buck gazed into her eyes, still holding her soft hand in his calloused one, they stared deeply into each other's eyes.
Their moment was interrupted by a yawl coming from behind them. Buck laughed nervously and took his hand back as a small grey and white cat entered the room.
"This is Pluto." She chuckled before turning away to the kitchen.
Hen and Chimney stared back at Buck judgementally, did he really have to flirt while they were on the job?
Buck's Baby Deer
Buck has a daughter AU. You all love it. I know you do. Anyway her name is Calliope Buckley. And she's four years old. This takes place Post-Lawsuit(our favorite). Pretend the loft has two bedrooms, please. Jealous Eddie, of a male friend of Buck's who is flirty with everyone. So all in all, good fun. Might make a part two to this, but not immediately taking place after.
Tumblr media
If you had told Buck that he would've ended up straining his relationship with the 118 more. He never would have officiated the lawsuit. Considered it, yes. He had a kid to think about.
Calliope Buckley. Buck's pride and joy. Truly, she was a sweet kid. She was smart, which she got from her mom, and had sass to her which came from Buck.
The swearing came from her staying up late without Buck knowing and watching what he was watching secretly. Rick and Morty is the favorite. Of course, she got grounded, but hey at least she never whines when she gets punished. Due to it happening often, and never being extreme punishments.
Also, she only does small things, like drawing on the wall. So then she can't have her crayons and markers for a week. Till she started with black pens, which artistically impressed Buck, and gave her stuff back.
Her mom? Well to put it simply, she didn't want kids. Well not yet. She didn't feel ready, but she told Buck because she knew how much he wanted his own family. She said she'd go through the pregnancy for him, but after that, they were done. Buck was heartbroken, but it was healed with a tiny baby with a birthmark running across their nose.
Reckless Buck had been mainly a ploy, yeah Abby had been a thing, and Ali had loved Calliope, but Calliope never liked the women that came. So after Taylor, he stopped dating.
Which, yeah probably got rid of free babysitter but he had Carla. Who swore to not tell anyone about Callie. That's how he ended up at the store that day. He needed to go buy kid snacks and nutritional values. And he picked up some cat stuff for his neighbor Caleb.
He had forgotten the 118 showed up there to get their supplies. It slipped his mind, especially with a hungry four-year-old wandering around inside because she saw Nemo flavored Oreos posters outside and couldn't help but run in to look for them.
"Because you're exhausting! We all have our own problems but you don't see us whining about it. Somehow we just manage to suck it up." Eddie yelled at him, that he was exhausting. It made him freeze. For one, the guy he liked, maybe even loved, hated him. Two, his daughter was around and he didn't want her to hear this. Especially cause it was true. At least to Buck, it was. Caleb had been great at making sure he knew how much he mattered.
But sometimes no matter how hard you helped, the brain would hotwire itself to not listen. His ears were ringing. Breathing was shaky and suddenly something exploded behind them. They ran out. Callie.
He grabbed her, grabbed the cookies, paid, and got the hell out of there. When Mackey told him they won and that the fire department wanted to give him 5.6 million dollars. He refused. He already had money from Callie's mom. Who was stupid rich, and gave him extra money than he needed for child support. How did Bobby and Maddie not know about this? Well it was in the files that weren't allowed to be shown to everyone, and Maddie hadn't probed questions at him while she was with Doug.
Callie's grandparents(maternal) were godsends. When he was too busy to make a flight for Callie, they would come and visit from Michigan. Good ole Harold and Ellie. Old but sturdy. Kind yet honest. Heart driven, yet logical.
When he denied the settlement,  Chiefs Williams and Alfonso had called him in. Asking why he didn't take it. When he explained the lawsuit from his perspective, they told him they'd make Bobby let him back in. He agreed, only on the terms that no one got fired. He knew what Bobby did wasn't professional, but he didn't want the man to lose his job.
He had already given up on the idea of having his family back immediately. But that didn't matter. He needed money. He couldn't rely on others for it too much.
And he damn well wasn't going to get it from a settlement. He felt sick at the thought. So when he returned to work. He sucked up the way he was being treated.
Wasn't easy at first, but he'd been treated like this for most of his life. So he got used to it quickly. Callie was keeping him going, making sure to get up in the morning and to make food. For the both of them, because despite being young, Callie was an observant kid. Hen too, but she'd tried to keep the peace on both sides.
Guess the secret couldn't be kept any longer, as he was on a twelve-hour shift when Caleb called.
"Caleb?" He had been cleaning the kitchen counter. The 118 was dispersed everywhere throughout the station, but Eddie, Hen, Chim, and Bobby were in the dining area nearby.
Looking over, Eddie frowned his eyebrows. Who the hell was Caleb?
"Slow down-,... Shit. I'm on my way."  Buck hung up the call and sped walked to Bobby. "I'm so sorry Cap, but I need to leave. Family emergency."
"What? Maddie didn't call." Chim said confused. Buck just rolled his eyes and continued talking. Taking the others aback.
"No, not Maddie, but someone who is family to me needs help and I can't wait around. Besides I only have thirty minutes left."
Contemplating for a brief minute, Bobby gave him the go-ahead. Giving his boss thanks, he ran downstairs, grabbed his duffle, and ran out. Didn't even bother changing out.
"Who'd you think needed help? I didn't even know he had other friends outside of us." Hen's questioning made Eddie and Bobby think. Had Buck ever mentioned anyone he knew outside of work?
-------------------------------------------
Heading to the hospital had been teasingly slow. Buck didn't know what exactly happened, but his daughter was there and needed a cast.
When he got there, he saw Caleb's car in the front. Luckily there was a spot next to it so he just parked there. Running in, he saw Caleb pacing around the waiting room. This guy is the guardian angel of his daughter.
"Caleb! What the hell happened?" Buck asked running up to his new best friend. Eddie had been demoted recently, which hurt Buck more than when he admitted to himself that he was in love with the man. Wasn't that hard of a realization as Caleb was studying to be a therapist and became a free one for Buck. He was gonna be great for younger kids.
"I'm so sorry, we were at the park and she was climbing the monkey bars like usual but some kids ran underneath her. I think she freaked and let go. She broke her list when she landed. I'm so sorry, Buck." Pulling the smaller man into a hug, Buck thanked him.
"You, confident Caleb, is worried? Relax, you did the right thing. Nothing worse happened so she's going to be okay. She's a tough nut to crack remember?"
"Yeah, she didn't fuss except when we were driving on our way to the hospital. Pulled out my phone to call you but she told me not to because it, 'Wasn't a big deal.'" Yup, his daughter all right. At that moment, the doctor came out.
"Family of Calliope Buckley." Both of the men walked up to her. "She's a brave and happy girl. She insisted on a cast with monster trucks on it." Chuckling softly, Buck just imagined his baby girl talking to the doctor casually as they were adjusting her broken wrist to fit into the cast.
"Yeah, that- that's Callie. My little warrior." Smiling at Buck the doctor extended out a hand. "I'm Callie's father by the way. Caleb is her godfather." The doctor smiled and read over her clipboard telling them what kind of pain meds she would need. Caleb, however, wasn't exactly listening. Godfather. Holy shit.
After the doctor told them she could have one of them go in, he gave Buck the go-ahead. They'd talk later, right now his friend needed to see his goddaughter. Damn, that feels good to say.
After a few minutes of waiting, the Buckleys walked out and Buck handed Callie off to Caleb to go check out. Walking out with the kid towards their cars he swung her around a bit, placed her on top of his hood, and just let her play games on his phone. She was good at Clash of Clans for a six-year-old.
When Buck walked out of the hospital, Caleb saw him look around to check for cars and when he turned right he froze. Then speed walked toward his daughter and best friend. Still half watching Callie, Caleb put her in the back seat of Bucks jeep.
"What happened?" He asked with Callies door still open. Her seat was always right behind Bucks. She liked being a tailgunner for some reason.
"The 118s here." Not wanting to look suspicious, Caleb pulled Buck into a hug with his eyes closed. Then when he opened his eyes as he was about to let go, he locked eyes with one of them. A relatively smaller guy who had brown hair and tanned skin. He looked confused. Mad? Who knows, but it wasn't happy.
"We'll talk about it later. Right now, this little fighter needs an ice cream." Callie shot out of her seat and yelled out.
"Fuck yeah!" Throwing their heads back, slightly looking around for parents who thought they were better, Caleb and Buck laughed at the six-year-old. Shaking his head, Caleb shriveled her hair and practiced his handshake with Buck. Then went into his pickup and drove off. Buck settled Callie down and told her to sit down. She did so immediately, already deciding what three flavors she could mix up conveniently.
Closing her door, Buck opened his door and drove off to the small ice cream business near his apartment to get their usuals for him and his small family. Meanwhile, the 118, specifically Eddie, watched him drive away.
-------------------------------------------
Watching Buck drive away with a kid was strange. Watching Buck with another man and kid, was even more strange. Was that Caleb? And who the hell was that kid Buck had in the back seat? After that, he decided to confront Buck about it next shift but then realized that Buck wouldn't be at work for another three days.
When he came to work the next morning, he noticed the small tension because no one could ask about what the hell they saw yesterday at the hospital parking lot. So they waited. And when the time came, Bobby said they were gonna have Bosko take over for Buck.
"He's on paid family leave." He explained but wouldn't go into detail.
"Why?" Eddie asked. Maddie wasn't hurt, or Chimney would be gone as well.
"Can't say. He told me not to. Leave it at that." For some reason, Bobby looked apprehensive. Which made Eddie more frustrated. He'd already dropped the street fighting. He didn't want to see Lena right now. So that's how he somehow found himself sitting in his car. In front of Buck's apartment building.
He hadn't decided if he wanted to go in, yet he was sitting out here like a stalker. In the end, he walked into the elevator and walked towards Buck's apartment. Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door.
After what felt like the longest minutes, Eddie heard the door unlocking. His heart beating in his chest, preparing to face whatever was behind that door. Then it opened. It wasn't Buck opening the door no. But a guy slightly taller than Eddie, with darker skin, side shaves, and braids that went over the top of his head. He had muscle and yet looked so meek. Slight stubble and a scar on his right eyebrow.
"Can I help you hermoso?" His accent seemed Dominican. Shook, Eddie froze, till he heard a familiar voice.
"Eddie?" Behind the beautiful man blocking Eddie, was Buck. In a hoodie with basketball shorts and sneakers. The hoodie was not baggy, as it clung to Bucks biceps making it look like it was about to rip. "What are you doing here?"
"I-I thought you were alone."
"Daddy? Who's that?" A little girl behind both of the men walked out of the hall from the spare room. Okay, what the fuck? Eddie thought as he stumbled slightly and opted to leave. Buck followed him down the hall closing the door, leaving Caleb to distract Callie.
"Eddie! Eddie! You can't just show up, a-and not explain why you're here randomly at 3 p.m.." Buck said after pulling Eddie to a stop with a firm hand on the shoulder. Eddie spun around breathing rapidly.
"Me? Me not explain!? You have a kid that none of us know about!"
"Why does it matter?! You've done a really good job at pretending I'm not there at work." Not wanting a repeat of the grocery store, Buck left to go inside and left Eddie frozen in the apartment complex hallway. Unconsciously doing the same thing the older man had done to him.
Finding his way, Eddie headed home to his son. Who was playing online with his friends, so it gave Eddie an excuse to lie down on his bed. Staring up at his ceiling, Eddie contemplates back. To when he first met Buck. Then to the fire truck bombing and the backyard incident at Athena and Bobby's place. It had scared him so much that he had initially agreed with the idea of Buck staying away from the 118. Hell, the whole fire department.
But when he filed that stupid lawsuit, it hurt worse to have Buck out of reach. Then he came back. And Eddie did not want to talk to him. Despite his heart longing to and making it break every time he snarked at anything Buck said or did in his general vicinity. He was angry at Buck but hated himself for being angry at Buck. The street fighting had started as a good outlet to let out the anger. But it went too far, and he blamed Buck for not being there when he needed someone to bail him out.
Now it turns out he has a family. A daughter, he had said he'd be better at raising girls than boys, and a man who looked like the perfect,... husband? Buck never talked about sexuality. Sexual innuendos yeah, but anything else no. But that didn't make sense because he had dated a woman while working at the 118. Unless it was recent. Then that Caleb guy was most likely his boyfriend.
That absolutely didn't sting.
Eddie was his best friend and yet he didn't know Buck's sexuality. Except,.. they hadn't acted like best friends had they? They(Eddie) haven't talked about the lawsuit properly and how it affected everyone(them).
Thinking back to the little girl at the apartment, Eddie couldn't help the small fond look that formed on his face. She was definitely Buck's. Seeing as the blonde curly hair and birthmark over the nose didn't give it away, she had the specific head tilt and eyebrow raise Buck had when he asked questions before going down a rabbit hole of information.
The fond expression quickly vanished as he remembered her arm. She had a cast on. That explained Buck's Paid Family Leave. Eddie could agree with Buck on this one, kids come first.
-------------------------------------------
After the Eddie pop-up two weeks ago, came Hen and Karen. Caleb was babysitting his goddaughter when knocking from Buck's apartment three doors down was heard. Repeated knocking. Sighing, Caleb threw the hand towel he was using to wipe down the island of his kitchen over his shoulder and told Callie to stay in her playroom.
Peeking out into the hallway, Caleb saw two black women waiting in front of Buck's door. His Bob Marley Vinyl could be heard from outside, so it drew their attention.
"He's not home. He'll be back in thirty minutes." They nodded and looked back at the door. Then he walked up to him.
"Hey there, I'm Hen. This is my wife Karen." Hen greeted shaking Caleb's hand.
"Nice to meet you."
"Always glad to meet beautiful faces, I'm Caleb by the way. I'm Bucks best friend." Hen and Karen gained shocked looks at different things. They gave each other a look that Caleb couldn't describe and thanked him while walking down to the lobby of that floor.
Caleb could've sworn he heard, 'Eddie's not gonna like this.', but who cares. Callie wanted Neapolitan, and she was gonna have it goddammit. After thirty-five minutes, Caleb counted, Buck opened the door and joined them for ice cream.
After they finished, they stood up and got ready to relax in their apartments separately. When Callie went in she bolted towards her room to catch up on homework she had procrastinated on accident. She had a bad memory and would forget about when to do things.
"Oh yeah, these women came by earlier. They said they were Hen and Karen?" Buck's eye widened. Then his eyebrows furrowed slightly in thought.
"They're friends through work. Why'd they come here?"
"Not sure, but they weren't happy about me saying I was your best friend. They said Eddie wouldn't be happy." Weird, they said goodbye and continued their normal weekend routine like normal. With Buck being off work for a bit and Caleb off at his work as a mechanic for big trucks, Buck decided to take Callie to the mall. She loved Hot Topic, especially with all the new pins and Bluey merch Buck told her they got.
He wanted the anime and Coraline merch they had. When they got there, they quickly went to Barnes & Noble for a gift card for Caleb's birthday and to look for Vinyls that they wanted. They ended up getting one from Bob Marley and a CD from multiple oldies artists. Callie had gotten a CD player for her birthday a few weeks back so it was perfect timing.
Though she did like her dad's music, she wanted her favorites that she had heard from Buck's Spotify and put on a special playlist for her. Heading to Hot Topic, they browsed the store together. They found some cool earrings that were based on space that Callie liked. So Buck got the punk leather bracelet pack to get another piece of jewelry for half off.
Once leaving the store, they went to the food court and ordered a pizza for the two of them. Pepperoni on one half and sausage and olives on the other. Buck got his pizza whilst Callie ate her olives individually before eating the slices. A habit that she developed from when she was a baby. Olives were always eaten separately.
After they were finished, they put the tray on the stand above the trash can and then left to go back home. Getting boba on the way though. Callie claimed that her stomach needed some liquid to calm the food in her stomach.
They got out of the car, ordered, and sat at the tables outside to enjoy the warm sun cascading down. This made everything worth it to Buck, all it was missing was,... well.
"Buck?" Hearing that voice in particular made his heart beat fast. Whether from fear or feelings. Either way, he didn't want to deal with this. "And little girl."
"Who you calling little?"
"H-Hey now, Callie, remember what I told you?" Sighing, the sassy child responded.
"'Not to speak disrespectfully to anyone you don't know.' She had used a deeper voice to repeat her father's words. "I know, I'll try to be better."
"I know." Buck's gentle reply did something to Eddie that he wasn't ready to admit yet. Turning back to Eddie, Buck asked him why he was there.
"I came to pick up and order Chim did online for us. Didn't know you'd be here, I swear." Buck just said it was fine and to ignore it. But Eddie couldn't. He went inside, grabbed the five drinks, and walked back to his truck. He placed the drinks in the passenger seat momentarily before walking back to the father-daughter duo. "Look, I know you probably don't want to talk to me after what happened at your apartment, but I need to get something off my chest."
"Is it about that overused grey shirt that's probably been through more flannels than you have relationships?"
"Callie."
"I said I'd try to be better."
Dang, Callie had some attitude. It was oddly loveable. Hearing Buck sigh and seeing him get up gave Eddie the go-ahead to speak.
"You were right. I wasn't there for you after the truck ladder. I didn't try to understand the lawsuit or your side of the story. Hell, I did the opposite and indulged in street fighting." A look from Buck made him feel smaller than he already was. "I stopped, don't worry. Anyway,... I messed up. We all did. But especially me. I promised I'd have your back and I didn't. And I swear that right here right now, if you're willing to let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make up for it. Calling you exhausting was the worst thing I could have done. Especially because it's not true, you've helped me out a lot with Christopher. And you were taking care of your daughter to add to everything else! I'm not asking for forgiveness but I am offering it to you. And even if you don't want to, I want you and Christopher to be able to hang out again. I want Christopher and your daughter to properly meet and for your boyfriend-"
"Boyfriend? Caleb's my best friend, not boyfriend." Oh. That hurt a little less than Eddie thought it would.
"Oh, well, good to know. And for you. Buck, you deserve someone who will be there for you. Platonic or not. Assuming that Maddie doesn't know yet, I won't say anything to the others about her." With that, Eddie began to walk off. Till a hand got placed on his shoulder.
"I don't forgive you yet. But I'd like to try." Letting out a sigh of relief, Eddie nodded and drove off. Quickly wiping his tears before getting out of his truck and walking inside Bobby and Athena's house. It was a start.
If he wanted his friend back, he'd have to work for it. He'd die for Buck. He'd make that clear.
-------------------------------------------
The day after the boba apology, Buck had considered introducing Callie to the 118. Only his close friends. With Caleb there for support. And to officially introduce him as the godfather to Callie. He didn't want to make anything official yet though. He wanted to get her opinion first.
"Okay." Easier than he thought.
"You sure kiddo? You've only heard stories about them." Calliope was mature for her age, but she was still a kid. He didn't want to force her into something that would make her uncomfortable.
"I mean, I'm not happy it took this long. Especially if I can have friends after school." Buck hadn't let her have friends come over from her school. The only reason was he didn't want his parents being bitchy or weird towards him and Carla about why he didn't stay home. Or why the mom wasn't around. "But Pops told me that sometimes people take time to adjust to changes. Like how I had to get used to wearing normal shoes and not light-ups all the time."
Buck didn't think he deserved her, but Caleb and Carla had reinforced multiple times that they weren't one without the other.
"Alright. I'll tell them to come over tomorrow. Is that fine?" With a small head nod, he shot a text to the group chat and one separate to Eddie. Saying to bring Chris to keep Callie comfortable. He then went over to Caleb's with Callie and spent the afternoon there.
After sending the text messages, ten minutes later Buck's phone started going off. With responses to the invitation to his apartment. They all had accepted.
-------------------------------------------
118🚒
Hen:
Sure, got nothing going on
Tried swinging by earlier and you weren't there
Chim:
Down to go, wanna bring Maddie
 Is that okay?
Buck:
Yeah that's fine
Bobby:
I'll be there, Athena will be too
Hen:
Karen will be working so I'm flying solo tmr
Eddie:
I'll be there
-------------------------------------------
Eddie
Hey thanks for the invite, Chris will be there too
Good to know, I was thinking of making pasta or ordering
Just order pizzas, we'll be fine
Alright, see you tmr
-------------------------------------------
A few minutes after the pizzas arrived, so did their visitors. Callie claimed that she had to make a good impression on Athena. So Buck styled her hair in Dutch braids and put on her best green shoes paired with her black overalls and striped yellow shirt.
She set out a LEGO box of Hogwarts on the coffee table for her and Chris to build together while the adults talked. When knocking was heard at the door, Callie and Buck got ready to receive them. All of them arrived near the same time so they decided to walk in together.
Taking a deep breath, Buck opened the door and smiled at them. However, their attention was quickly drawn to a young girl's voice yelling.
"Surprise bitches!" Callie was doing a dramatic pose whilst wearing sunglasses that Buck had bought a while back. They looked comically huge but somehow they went with the outfit. As they walked in, they all had shocked faces. Except Bobby, Athena, and Eddie. Caleb was still in his place fixing something with his sink.
"Guys, meet Calliope Buckley. My daughter of six years old." Maddie looked distraught yet enamored. Hen looked like she wanted to kill Buck but hugged the hell out of Callie. Chris was shaking with excitement. Chim was looking between father and daughter. Probably making comparisons in his head. Athena was smiling with a fond look in her eyes.
Bobby had probably told Athena about her already, which was fine, but the look Bobby had was heartwarming. Eddie had a small smile on his face and glanced at Buck.
"What?" Maddie asked looking to Buck for answers. But before he could answer, Callie began chatting with Chris.
"Hi, I'm Callie."
"I'm Chris."
"Wanna build a LEGO Hogwarts?"
"YEAH!"
As the kids walked away and sat at the coffee table, Buck led the adults away as best he could from the kids.
"Questions and theories, I know. But right now, have some pizza." So they did, and while they were serving, Caleb walked in.
"Hey lovely's. How's it going?"
"About to explain." They all looked at him to continue and not leave them on edge. Breathing in a sigh, he started talking. "A few years back, I met a girl. She was sweet and cool and I thought we had something special. Then, she got pregnant and she explained to me that she didn't want kids. I respected it and decided to break it off. She had Callie because she knew how much I wanted kids. I was a teen dad by technicality. Callie's grandparents took care of her while I lived with my mom and dad. After I got my job here, I was able to have her move in with me." Waiting for it to register in their heads, he silently let them ask questions. Then Chim raised his head.
"So, who's mom?"
"Penelope Smith. She has a master's in medicine and is a practitioner for athletes specifically. She sends me money when she can. Doesn't mean I don't have to work though."
"Grandparents are sweet. They come to visit from Michigan when they can." At Maddie's eyebrow raised Buck explained further.
"After having Callie, they moved to Michigan for Pen's college and to raise Callie in a more communal area. Meanwhile, I went off to travel. Mainly to get my parents off my ass. I didn't want to at first but Harold and Ellie told me to go for it."
"Nah, Harold practically dragged you into that Jeep." Laughing at the memory the 118 smiled at the pair. Eddie too, his was just dimmed slightly.
Running into the kitchen, Callie looked up at Buck.
"Can we get our slices? Me and Chris want to multitask." Earning smiles from everyone in the kitchen, Buck got four slices and put two on each plate. He turned around and sighed at his family.
"Who's hungry?"
Tumblr media
At the age of fourteen years old—after watching the classic eighties movie Wall Street—Braxton Kingsley became obsessed with Bud Fox, and started having this fantasy of becoming the youngest and most successful businessman.
So he worked for it, sacrificed his high school senior’s year and a majority of his twenties—nose always buried in books, fingers constantly tapping on the keyboard of his computer, dark circles under his eyes from the countless sleepless nights spent studying and analyzing the stock market—instead of experiencing his youth, making memories with his loved ones, traveling and discorverinf what the world had to offer, then coming back home with thousands of different stories to tell.
As he grew older, and after years of pining over his dreams, Braxton Kingsley made the bold move of flying out of Canada to establish himself in New York City. At the time, it seemed like the perfect place to achieve greatness. People were calling it the city of opportunities after all. It’s with a backpack full of ambitions, a pair of fresh and innocent eyes that Braxton made his debut as a personal assistant for a narcissistic for a lawyers firm. How naive of that younger version of himself to think that someone like him would even get a chance; to end up sitting up there, among the biggest of the game.
The first few years were a real dreams come true type of thing though—he quickly gained people’s respect with his determination of standing out of this massive sea of people; all trying to reach the same level of eminence, his perseverance and his work ethic—Braxton got his hands a bit dirty throughout the process, did a few things he wasn’t proud of now looking back at it, created an entire different personality to shield himself from that ruthless environment. And it was all worth it, or so he thought. From being an insignificant personal assistant, attempting events and meeting powerful men that propel his career further every single time, to hooking up with the most beautiful women of New York City. By the age of thirty, Braxton Kingsley really thought he reached the peak of his career, it couldn’t get any better than what he already had.
Having that kind of financial liberty, being the proprietor of one of the most successful corporations of the United States, to finally be recognized as part of the elite among his peers, that constant feeling of power and immortality might be bringing pleasure, but as the saying goes, it does not bring intrinsic happiness that’s sticky to the soul.
It only took a night out in Miami to celebrate his latest deal with his new associates, one of too many glasses of top shelf whiskey and a charming older man for Braxton to throw cautions out the window. Maybe he could allow himself one night of freedom behind the closed doors of the hotel room.
His father once told him that everything comes with a price, that nothing is forever.
It was only a matter of hours before the young man woke up and watched his reputation getting crushed by the media. Everything he achieved, the empire he built was crumbling before his eyes, and for the first time in ten years, his future was uncertain.
The Little Nash: Buddie's Girl
Chapter 1
I was sitting in the lobby of the 118 firehouse. My brother was the captain of the team and I wanted to see how he was doing. The first person to see was an Asian man, he looked to be roughly mid thirties to early forties. I recognized him as Howie “Chimney” Han. He worked as one of the EMTs on my brother’s team.
“Before you ask, I’m Calliope Nash. I’m Bobby’s little sister. Well half-sister. Same dad, different moms. I’m here to catch up with him.”
“Does he know you are here?”
I just gave him a look. He just laughed and told me to follow him. We got to the dining room on the upper floor of the firehouse. Bobby was cooking like he always did when we were kids. I smiled and thanked Howie quietly in a way to stay quiet about my presence. I slowly walked over to Bobby.
“WADE!”
Bobby legitimately jumped when he heard me yell. I was laughing so hard I had to get on the floor while holding my stomach. He turned around and just glared at me. It was so worth it.
“MEDUSA”
“Really? My middle name?”
“You yell mine I tell people yours. What are you doing here anyway?”
I got quiet when he asked. Telling Howie, it was to catch up with Bobby was one thing but to lie to my brother was something else entirely. He knew every single one of my tells and I wasn’t in the mood to lie to him. Bobby could tell something was wrong from just one look at me.
He called a guy named Buck to take over the cooking so he could speak to me in private. Buck was an attractive man whom I could see myself climbing like a tree. I shook that thought out of my head because he was my brother’s teammate. We went to Bobby’s office to talk.
“Callie, what’s up?”
“My mom died last week. I know I should have called, but after the last time I saw you, we agreed not to talk about family. I miss them too. But anyway, that’s not why I am here. I’m moving out here to work on my next novel. My first one is going to be published in the next few months.”
Bobby pulled me into a hug, and I lost my composure. I hadn’t cried in front of anyone in a long time. Slowly I got a hold of myself and wiped the tears from my eyes. We sat and talked for a little while before the alarm went off. Bobby asked me to stay so I could meet the whole team. I agreed.
I took my laptop out of my bag as soon as the 118 left. I opened my chat with my editor to talk about the plan for my next novel. We agreed the plot for the next one would be completely up to me if my debut went off without a hitch and it sold well on the first printing of it.
Dazja: What do you have in mind for the next book?
Callie: I was thinking a why choose romance about a girl and two firemen. My brother is a fireman I plan on asking if I could use his team as inspo for a few of the characters.
Dazja: Do you think he would let you shadow them?
Callie: Maybe. They are currently on a job so I have to wait until he comes back to ask. Plus I already have an idea for one of the men the female lead would be attracted to. He is tall with dirty blonde hair. Some sparkling light blue eyes. Possibly a birthmark on his face. That detail I have to ask the fireman about if he would be okay with that being something written about.
Dazja: Sounds more like you found a handsome man you want to date.
Callie: Shut up. He works with my brother. Plus I could never date someone my brother is close to. Last time that happened, I couldn’t talk to my brother for a month. Oh I hear them coming back chat when I can. Later girlie.
Dazja: I am your editor don’t call me girlie.
I laughed at her last message. We had been friends for years so me calling her girlie was normal. That was how we said I love you. Bobby was talking to one of the other members of his team when I started to walk toward him. It was a woman. I remembered her face from all the pictures he sent me, her name was Henreitta, or Hen for short. She sounded like a sassy aunt friend.
“Bob-mister”
“Calliope Medusa.”
“Hey, I didn’t middle name you that time.”
“You want something. What is it?”
“Bobby, who is this lovely young woman?”
“This is my baby sister, Calliope. She is moving to LA for her writing career. Which I feel like is about to become my problem.”
I gave a shy smile. I was about to talk about my idea when I saw someone from my past. He hadn’t changed one bit. His eyes met mine and he paused what he was saying to Buck.
“Diaz?”
“Nash?”
We ran toward each other. It had been far too long since we last spoke. He told me he was going to LA. My first thought was about Christopher and how he was adjusting. Eddie knew where I was going with the look I was giving him. He told me Chris was thriving in LA. I was glad to hear that.
“Callie, how do you know Eddie?”
“I used to be a journalist that was working with the military. I worked closely with Eddie’s team. If it wasn’t for him, I would have died more times than I care to admit right now. You are getting an advanced copy of The Vet and Journalist.”
“Cal, I appreciate the sentiment, but you know I don’t read romance books.”
“Come on, you promised to read it. Plus, if it does well with the first printing, I get to finally write my own ideas.”
Bobby spoke up at that moment, “What do you mean finally?”
I talked about how my editor wanted me to write about my experience with working closely with the army and my experience there. But it wasn’t what I wanted to write. We agreed that I would write about my experience in a different way so I could still have some freedom with it.
“So is the vet in that based off Eddie?”
I blushed remembering some of the scenes that I wrote. I hadn’t told Eddie that it wasn’t just a normal classy romance. No, it was a spicy romance and there were definitely scenes he would disapprove of me writing about. As I thought more about it, an idea struck. The novel ended with an open ending. Diego, the vet in the novel – who was based on Eddie, didn’t stay with Stella.
“Buck, right? You just gave me a great idea. Bobby, can I write about the 118 in my new novel? Eddie, is it okay if I can write about the 118 that I connect it to my first novel because I really want to write about what happened after the journalist and vet parted ways.”
All three men looked at each other and slowly nodded. I jumped into the air and grabbed my phone to get everyone’s contact information. Hen was the first to ask about getting an advanced copy as well. I told her that she and all the 118 would get an advanced copy minus Bobby. He didn’t need to ask why. Unfortunately, Buck did ask. I explained how my female leads are usually fairly similar to me and Bobby doesn’t want to think about me in any way that involves sex.
“YOU WROTE SEX SCENES!”
Eddie’s face was furious. I slightly hid behind Buck since he was closer to me than my brother. Bobby stood between Eddie and me. Buck gave Eddie a look which seemed to calm the Latino down. I smirked at Eddie when I noticed the look. He just ignored me.
“Callie, why didn’t you tell him?”
“He never asked if I was going to or not. Plus, spicy romance is becoming more common for the public and who doesn’t want to fuck a hot army man.”
The last part wasn’t meant to come out of my mouth. I looked at my brother horrified. I didn’t even dare to look at Eddie. He was married when we met, and I wasn’t planning on ever seeing him again. Now I just outed the fact how at one point in knowing Eddie I would have gladly fucked him. At that moment I decided I was going to leave for the night, and I would be contacting the chief to plan for my shadow days and days to interview some of the team to include them in the novel. Buck asked if he could walk me out. I nodded and allowed him to lead the way.
As we walked, I decided to ask Buck about how he would feel about being a love interest in this novel. Before he could ask questions, I told him that it was going to be a why choose romance. Meaning that he and Eddie would be the inspiration for the love interests of the female lead. Which in turn earned me a smirk from the dirty blonde.
“Okay yes, when I first saw you, I thought I’d like to climb you like a tree. But that can never happen. Bobby is my brother and I refuse to work through a third party to talk to him if things don’t work out. I’ve done that once before. I don’t plan on it again.”
“Relax, I wasn’t suggesting that.” I gave him a look, “Okay, maybe I was. But you are right. Bobby has been more of a father figure than my own. I couldn’t hurt his sister. Though, I wouldn’t mind helping with some of those spicier scenes if you need any help.”
“You do realize that I’m going to make the characters based on you and Eddie fuck each other without the girl, right?”
His face turned a beet red at the thought alone. I told him that if he was bi, he should tell Eddie. Before he could ask me anything else I left for my car ready to write the first chapter of my next novel.
Buck was enjoying his day off when he first saw you, waving his way. He turned his head, expecting a friend of yours to be behind him but was thoroughly surprised when you approached him. “You’re a firefighter aren’t you? I saw you on the news.”
Buck smiled at the recognition and nodded along, “Yeah I am, how’d you know?” You laughed at his joke before smiling, “You did an amazing job there, just wanted to let you know. I know sometimes you don’t get the props you deserve so… just wanted to come over.” You looked gorgeous, and your smile was infectious. Buck had been lonely lately, feeling as if he’s behind everyone else.
Always wondering what would’ve happened if he never changed, at least he’d have girls around, right?
But then, he met you. And all of a sudden, he was glad he wasn’t the original Buck. The Buck who felt the incessant need to get into bed with almost every girl he wants. “I sadly have to get going, but it was nice meeting you.” Enraptured with your smile, he watched you walk away. As he smiled to himself he realised, “Wait! I didn’t—,” You’d entered your apartment already, and he didn’t know your name. But you had left your purse on accident.
He sighed deeply, settling back into the bench he was sat on as his hand tightened around his coffee cup. “Stupid Buck, should’ve asked her name straight away.” Whilst plotting about how he could find out your name, the smell of smoke invaded his senses.
Your building was on fire.
He sprung up straight away, his hands sliding all over his phone whilst calling 911.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“23 Rayweo Drive, there’s a fire!”
“There’s already been multiple calls sir, units are on their way. May I ask who’s calling?”
“Uhh, Evan Buckley. I’m a firefighter!”
“Okay Evan, can you please—,”
All composure faded away the second he saw you at your window, arms waving frantically. “Help! The doors blocked!” The muffled voice coming through his phone was discarded as he made his way up the fire escape. The conjoining apartment had a balcony only about three to four metres from yours, Buck jumped across before grabbing the metal table on yours.
Your apartments glass door shattered as Buck made his way inside, the sirens were getting closer. “Hello? Where are you?” Buck held his arm infront of his face, searching the place for you. “In here!” Your apartment wasn’t fully engulfed yet, the kitchen and entrance were inescapable. But the rest only had small fires, yet to grow. Your bedroom door was untouched but had ceiling debris blocking you from leaving.
Buck went right into action, carelessly throwing the debris to the side before bracing himself, “Move away from the door!” You stood in the corner of the room as Buck pummelled through, ending up on the floor. You rushed over, “Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?” His coughs were rapid, “I’m— i’m okay, let’s get you out of here…” A soft smile came across your lips, “Y/n.” He smiled back, “Buck.” The two of you slowly made your way out, but you stopped and stared.
A painting of yourself and your best friends, hung on the wall. The frame was gold, and melting. Your first ever apartment, up in flames with some of the most precious memories and moments of your life. “Hey, I know it’s a bit of a shock but we need to go.” Buck turned around to look at you, and at the right moment since the ceiling caved in on you. “Wait!”
Your hand waved around trying to grasp something as you held your breath. Were you going to die? All you could feel was a throbbing pain in your head, you’d fallen head first. And as your eyes closed you felt two hand grasp your arm, attempting to pull you out. “Stay with me!” Buck pleaded.
You woke up as you were being lifted onto the stretcher, eyes adjusting to the brightness. “Where— what’s happening?” The paramedic to your right smiled, “Welcome back, can you tell me your name?”
“Y/n/n!” Buck rushed to your side as you smiled, “Buck.” His hands brushed away the hair from your face, “Yeah, I’m here. Right here baby.” You smiled as they lifted you into the ambulance. Buck looked up, “I’m riding with you guys Hen.” The girl, who you assumed to be Hen nodded. You held onto Bucks hand the entire ride, earning some stares from Hen and Chimney.
When they thought you were out, they started questioning him. “You know her don’t you?” He nodded, “I do.” You opened your eyes, as everyone’s attention fell back on you, “Hey there, how ya feeling?” Chimney asked as you smiled, “Good, heads hurting a lot though.” Hen nodded, “You did take a bit of a fall, it’s a given. Your vitals look normal, seems like it’s just a concussion and some smoke inhalation. A few nicks and bruises, you’ll be out in no time sweetheart.”
“She’s right, you’re gonna be okay. Is there anyone you’d like us to call?”
“My mom. Her number is…” Your eyebrows furrowed at your lapse of memory. “Her number is…” You tried again to no avail, “Oh my god, I can’t remember. Why can’t I remember?” Hens face drained, “Uhm, you may have hit your head harder than we thought. Is your phone on you?” You shook your head, “It broke when I fell.”
The ceiling was all of a sudden the most interesting thing in that ambulance. How the hell did you forget your own mother’s number? You tried your hardest to recall but it was hopeless. You tried your fathers, and nothing.
“Maybe a sibling? A boyfriend?”
“I don’t have siblings. No I do, a sister maybe? Or is it a brother? My boyfriend… I—,” Buck watched as you tried your hardest to remember things, and he hated it. He felt horrible, watching you struggle. He just wanted to shout at you that he was here, you didn’t need anybody else. He muttered under his breath, “I could be your boyfriend.” You turned your head, “You’re my boyfriend?” Hen and Chimney looked up at him, “You’re the man? Why haven’t you said anything?”
He was going to disagree, he really was. But with you looking up at him so hopefully he couldn’t help himself. “I didn’t want to confuse her, especially if she didn’t remember. That’s not wrong.. is it?”
You shook your head. “No, no it’s not. I’m just glad you’re here.”
The last few days had been a blur, sitting around or laying down. Nurses fluttering in and out with a million questions of ‘How are you feeling?’ or ‘Do you need anything else?’
Yes, to go home. You wish you could yell at them, but then again, you didn’t have a home. But through it all, you had your boyfriend. Who was nothing short of a gentleman. Always with a smile on his face, always asking how you were. And with him you just wanted to answer his questions.
“Discharge papers are all signed, you’re free to go sweetie.” The nurse beamed as you sighed, “Thank you so much. Have a nice day.” As she left you squealed before hugging Buck, “Whoa there, slow down sweetheart.” You rushed back, “I’m sorry, I’m just so ready to leave this place, and eat real food.”
Buck laughed at your growling stomach, “I promise to cook for you every night.” He pledged with a hand to his heart, “Oh shut up! Quick question, does this mean I’ll be staying with you? Until I find a new place and talk to my insurance company?” Buck frowned at the idea of you leaving him, “I know this might seem a bit quick but, what’s the point in you moving out? When you could just move in with me? I mean… you’d never have to worry about a fire with me.”
You grinned at him whilst picking up your purse and slinging it over your shoulder. “I already look like you since I’m wearing your clothes. You sure you want me 24/7?” He’d want you glued to him if he could. “Of course, I could never get sick of someone so pretty.” Buck flirted as your cheeks heated up, his hand traced your back sending tingles up your spine. He cupped your face and brought you closer.
Your lips were soft and sweet, the lip-balm you used was flavourful and he couldn’t get enough. His hand traced down your back, pulling you closer into him as you smiled into him, “Buck.” Your voice was muffled as he continued on, you put your hands on his chest and pushed back, “Stop, we’re in public.” You giggled as he threw his head back, “If anyone looks at you I’ll just punch em’.” You gasped, “Buck!”
He raised his arms, “What?” The two of you finished packing up before saying your goodbyes to the nurses that had taken care of you. “You never told me you had a jeep.” Buck laughed, “I was kind of hoping you’d remember, you love her.” You nodded at his words, “I can definitely see why I did, or do.” When you arrived at his place you were irrevocably in love.
“I love the exposed brick!” Buck set your purse down on the counter as you ran your hands along the walls before making your way to the couch. “And the couch is tucked away, it’s like a bit of privacy yknow?” Buck leaned against the counter with his arms crossed, “Well duh, you’re the one that helped me pick it.” He knew you hadn’t of course, but it was somehow easy for him to block her out and replace her with you.
“I did?” You looked his way as he walked over before standing in between your legs, “You loved this place a lot. So I got it as a surprise.” You smiled at him before pulling him down on top of you, “Why don’t we spend the rest of the day at home, and you tell me all about you and me?” He smiled at the sound of ‘home’, your home.
And that’s exactly what happened, the rest of the day he spent making up an ideal version of the two of you. Of how you met, how the two of you were yet to tell anyone since you really loved keeping it to the two of yourselves. And how he was always a ‘in the moment’ type person, explaining the lack of photos together. You then went out to buy yourself a new phone, and trade over the SIM card.
“Hey babe?” You called out to him as he cooked in the kitchen, “Yeah what’s up?” He glanced over his shoulder to you, “I can’t find you in my phone.” Buck breathed in, he forgot about that. “We… had a bit of a fight the day before. Pretty sure you blocked me or something, and since I’m petty, I did the same thing.” You stared at your phone in confusion, “I’ve never blocked someone, especially over something as simple as an argument.”
“Well, you have. Your brains a bit fuzzy babe, it’ll come back to you soon enough.” You glanced up at him, suspicion filling through you. “Alright, can I grab your phone and put my number in?” He nodded before pointing to the bed upstairs. You jogged upstairs before unplugging his phone. “My birthday.” You quickly filled in the password and were met with a million messages and calls.
Hen: Buckkkk, reply to us. Are you okay?
Cap 🔥: Buck, you need to call in if you’re not coming.
Maddie ❤️: YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?
Eddie: There’s no way you have a girlfriend and just forgot to tell me.
Eddie: I’m coming over.
These guys must be his friends and coworkers. But you couldn’t help but wonder, had he seriously not told any of them that he has a girlfriend? Not even a hint? The last text from Eddie was only half an hour ago, which meant—
RING!
The doorbell rung out as you made your way downstairs, “Hey, no I’ll grab the— door.” Buck was late to it, as you swiftly opened the door to reveal, “Eddie!” He smiled, “Hey Buck, and you must be?” You grinned, “Y/n, but you can just call me Y/n/n. Please, come in!” You opened the door wider to reveal a kid, “And who’s this?” Eddie had his hand on the kids back, “Y/n, meet my son Christopher.” You kneeled infront of him before stretching out your hand, “Well hello there Chris, I’m Y/n and it is very nice to meet you.”
“Hello Y/n. Buck never told us he had a girlfriend.” You laughed at the comment as the two shuffled in before settling on the couch, “Well, if it’s any consolation, we hadn’t really told anyone yet. So technically you’re the first to officially meet me. None of my friends or family know about Buck yet.” Chris smiled, “What do you mean officially?”
“Well technically, everyone’s kind of met me already but I was rescued from a fire.” Eddies face dropped, “Oh my god, I completely forgot to ask, are you doing okay? It must’ve have been hard to recover.” You appreciated his empathy, “Yeah, it was a bit difficult at first but I was in the hospital. I mean, it was my first apartment and it went up in flames, it’s pretty hard to just get over it. But Buck has been an absolute angel, I’m really lucky to have him with me. I’ve been having memory issues, to the point where I wake up and forget where I am,”
“Oh god, have you been put on any medication?” You nodded, “I have, and it’s been helping. I think with the days my memory will come back. I mean I didn’t even remember Buck and I were together in the ambulance.” You laughed as you looked over at Buck, he chuckled at the joke whilst Eddies eyes flicked between the two of you before laughing dryly.
“Dinners ready!” Buck shouted out, the conversation was getting a bit too much for his liking. The four of you stuck to light topics at the dinner table on account of Christopher as well as you. And it was super enjoyable for you, Eddie is an amazing father and you could see how close Buck was with him and Chris.
“Well I think it’s time for this one to go to bed.” Eddie rose up before collecting the plates, “Hey no, you’re a guest, you don’t have to clean up.” You spoke as you grabbed the plates from him, “No no, you should be resting Y/n/n.” You both made your way around, “Okay we can both do them. You wash, I dry.” Buck sat on the couch with Chris playing video games, whilst simultaneously trying to eavesdrop.
“It’s way too late for the two of you to be driving home no? I’m sure you could stay. Me and Chris upstairs and the men on the floor seems just right,” Eddie threw his head back laughing, “Ohh, I see how it is!” You bumped his side and he bumped right back.
If all of Bucks friends were this great, he would’ve had to be one of the luckiest people around.
Chris and Eddie did end up staying the night, but the two men couldn’t sleep. So Eddie and Buck ended up having a few late night drinks, “So, Y/n. She’s absolutely incredible. So I have zero clue how you ended up with her.” Buck shoved his arm, “Hey I am a catch.”
“That I’d throw right back out.” Eddie joked as Buck rolled his eyes, “But you never told us anything about her, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit disappointed. We usually talk about everything Buck. And I know you well enough to know when you’re talking to someone.” Buck sighed, “It’s… complicated.”
And the weight of his secret was bound to come crashing down at some point, right?
Eddie stood with his head in his hands trying to understand everything his best friend had tried to tell him. “So you kidnapped her?” Buck immediately turned to him, “What? No! We were in the ambulance and she assumed I was her boyfriend, and god if you’d seen the look on her face you’d understand why I said yes. She was all alone, her apartment was burned down and her phone was broken. Maybe if it was some random person I wouldn’t have said yes, but I’d talked to her before. I knew she didn’t deserve anything that was happening to her. And she wouldn’t have a place to go if she couldn’t even remember her friends or a phone number.”
“So you took her in, to be a nice person? Were you going to kick her out when she remembered? What if she calls the cops?” Eddies head had about a million scenarios rushing through right now, “Eddie, please. You know me, I’m not a bad guy. If she starts to remember then I’ll tell her. But, we’ve gotten along so well these past few days, like you said she’s incredible.”
“Oh god, don’t tell me you fell in love with her.”
“Well…” Buck scratched the back of his neck as Eddie groaned, “Buck are you serious?” Eddie screeched, “Shh! Do you want to wake her up? Look, if she realises then I’ll explain everything I promise. But it’s not like I’m holding her hostage. I’m just trying to give her a place to call home before she gets back out there.”
“Buck, she calls you ‘babe’, and you do too. You have a million nicknames for her. Every time you get the opportunity you kiss her. It’s wrong, she has no clue what’s happening here.” Eddie tried to rationalise with him but it was no use. Buck sighed, “I know, it’s just— I know her. I met her before the fire and she was so nice, I was going to ask her out but then this all happened. And it’s not like she doesn’t like me either, is it really so wrong?”
“I guess not, but you need to tell her. If she really likes you, then I guess she’ll give you another chance to actually take her out.” Buck rushed forwards and hugged him, “You think she’ll give me another chance? Thank you Eddie!” Eddie scoffed, “You really like her huh?” Buck couldn’t help but look back up at you, “I do.”
Your eyes were wide open, adjusted to the dark. Eddie and Bucks conversation was playing over and over in your head, he lied to you. But again he wanted to keep you safe, would you be homeless right now if it weren’t for him? Or would you have found a friend?
The good and bad parts of the situation were equal in your eyes. He’d been lying to you, kissing you and treating you as if you were his girlfriend. Taking advantage of your state of mind, but you’d met before, and he was going to ask you out. And if he had, you knew what your answer would have been.
Yes.
And it wasn’t as if he was dangerous, or at least you hoped not. Tiredness came over you, the last thing you remember hearing being the sound of Bucks voice wishing you sweet dreams.
By the time you woke up Eddie and Chris were long gone, Buck was busy cooking up breakfast. “There you are sleepyhead.” His smile was always bright when directed at you, and with the morning glow you could only see the good. “Buck, we need to talk.”
Who knew five words could strike such fear?
And you sat infront of him, “I know. I know about the fire, and the fact that you aren’t my boyfriend. And hey—,” Buck didn’t waste a second apologising, “I’m so so sorry I knew I should’ve told you straight away. But when you said I was I went along with it and that was stupid. But I didn’t want you to be alone and if you want to go I will—,” Your laugh stopped him in his tracks, “It’s okay Buck. I’m not mad, well I am a little since you’ve been kissing up on me every chance you get but… you’re just a bit dumb in how you went about it.”
Buck smiled as he set out breakfast for the both of you, “Now how about this. We finish up breakfast and then you take me out on a proper date where we get to make all of our firsts for real. I really do like you Buck, your heart was in the right place, execution? Not so much.”
And the rest of the morning you spent laughing at Buck and his love sickness. “You know you’re kind of obsessed with me, it’s a bit creepy.” Bucks face immediately drained, he stared at your back as you washed the dishes. “But my heart was in the right place right?” He sounded desperate with the sentence, “Sure.”
You liked Buck, there was no denying it, but you couldn’t shake the feeling of weirdness.
As the two of you continued getting to know eachother Bucks happiness sky rocketed. And everyone could tell, “If you smile any longer we’ll need to tattoo it onto your face Buck.” Bobby joked as everyone teased Buck, “I am in a happy, loving relationship. Be proud of me.” Eddie couldn’t help himself, “Does she know that?”
The whole table burst out laughing as Buck groaned, “She has her memory back can we please not joke about it.” Hen pointed at him with her fork, “Trust me, we’re not laughing at her, we’re laughing at you Lover Boy!” The footsteps coming up the stairs were drowned out by the sea of laughter, “If Shakespeare was alive you’d for sure be an inspiration Buck.” Chimney spoke from the kitchen.
“Wonder what he’d name it.” Your voice caused the five of them to turn your way, “Y/n!” Eddie shouted as you engulfed him in a tight hug. “If I squeeze too hard you’ll forget my name,” He joked as you punched his abdomen, “Don’t make me hurt you.”
“There’s the famous Mrs Buckley.” Bobby smiled as you made your way over to him, “Cap!” He opened his arms up to you as Buck grinned, his team finally meeting you made him feel happy. “Great to finally meet you, but I feel like we already know you.” He spoke as he pulled out a chair for you. “He’s right, Lover Boy never shuts about you.” Chimney teased as you kissed Bucks cheek.
“Well aren’t you sweet? We all know how lovesick he is I presume?” The team laughed as Buck rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah let’s get the jokes out the way.” You smiled before holding onto his hand.
Buck downplayed just how much he loved his team, they were like a family, and now you were apart of it too. Buck was grateful to be in it, especially with you being the new addition. But every once in a while he couldn’t help but remember how he got you.
Love At First Sight.
