okay so yes i understand everybody dunking on the dead fish kiss in eternal yesterday ep3 bc really would it have killed them to move their mouths even just a little??? but i personally think it shouldn’t have happened any other way and here’s why:
koichi is so clearly following mitsuru’s lead. you can see him ask by leaning in a little, then watching carefully for the response
and then mitsuru says yes by closing his eyes and tipping his head back and koichi closes the distance
Tumblr media
first: they’re both in high school. literal babies
second: earlier in the episode, mitsuru mentions that before koichi he thought he just wasn’t sexually attracted to anyone, which to me suggests that he’s somewhere demisexual-adjacent on the ace spectrum
which would mean that even desiring someone physically, let alone acting on it, is something he doesn’t have a lot of experience with
which would mean that of course he doesn’t know how to kiss!
and koichi, being his wonderful whipped self, is letting mitsuru take the lead every step of the way, bc the last thing he wants to do is hurt his mit-chan by rushing into anything
so they end up just standing there with their lips barely touching for ten seconds. twice.
which is awkward af but also kind of adorable and heartwrenching because you can see it taking their breath away anyway. the emotional chemistry is sooo palpable in this scene
i think they’re both afraid that if they swap even a drop of spit they will instantly go up in smoke from sheer overwhelming shock and honestly i believe it
this represents so many firsts for them. it makes sense that they look like beginners at it.
did i just spend way more time justifying a dead fish lip press than i ever thought i would? yeah. am i biased? i mean yeah, in my eyes this show can already do no wrong. will i have to eat every word i just wrote if the physical intimacy in the next episode hasn’t gotten any more.... intimate? yeah but i’ll take that risk

♡ ˚₊  tom kaulitz, 2009 (twenty years)
guitarist and part-time womanizer (that's what his friends say) in his free time he loves going to strip clubs with his friends and smoking.
tom is hot, cool and he know that... oh he knows that. he always had dealings with a lot of girls, but never took them seriously. because as he says “i just want love for one night”
if he could he would marry his black audi A8, it's his little girl. when he drives he also talks to his beloved car.
nice fuckboy.
♡ ˚₊  y/n s/n, 2009 (twenty years)
she attends the university of educational sciences, to become a future kindergarten teacher. intern in a summer center for pre-adolescent children and teenagers.
eternal romantic. she loves everything vintage, under those cute clothes and that big heart she also has big tits and she love classical dance. she only listens to old french songs, it's her obsession.
she's so sweet and kind that unfortunately sometimes people make fun of her, but she's not stupid or naive at all.
♡ ˚₊ but they fuck? yes! yes! just fuck yes!
she got the chubbiest and cutest pussy ever and it's tom's most favorite thing. he'll have her on all fours with her chest on the bed and ass high in the air and her hands will come back to grip her ass cheeks and hold it apart to show off her pretty holes and tom is extremely addicted to it.
tom always has one hand on her breast, always.
♡ ˚₊ are they dating? yes - no. yes?
they act like it. nothing is official, no one is more confused than georg. like what the fuck... they don't date?! but they hitting it?! it does not make sense!
it's more complicated than it seems they beat around that topic but are extremely loyal, one with the other. like tom still messes around with other girls but doesn't fuck them? and she doesn't even notice other men, her eyes are only for tom and especially for his cock.
their mantra? mine and only mine.

Hannie thoughts 🩷
He pursued you so sweetly and now you're expecting a sweet slow courtship. But now that he realizes just how into him you are, he takes full advantage. Rough in the bedroom confident Jisung. 😍 Y/n overwhelmed but secretly loves it.
“courtship” gave me royal vibes. soooOoOOOo
also idk why this is so long!!! im sorry!!! this concept got the best of me!!!
tell me you love royal aus without telling me 🫠
SMUT — MINORS DNI
The kingdom is lucky to have Jisung on their throne. Crowned as a mere teenager, nobody expected the Young King to thrive. What could he possibly know about ruling a kingdom? In three years time, they’ll lose all credibility, and he his head. Just watch; a boy cannot be King.
Within a year, all ill words spoken about the King were silenced. Charismatic, yet shy, he found his footing in royal life with ease. Leading council meetings, carefully listening and fairly judging every case brought to the court. Age is deceiving; the people haven’t had a leader of this quality in many, many years.
It wouldn’t be fair to say Jisung is just a good King. Even though ten years have passed since his coronation, he can still be found dressed in plain clothes without jewels or his crown, riding into town on his precious golden mare. She is cared for by his Hand, and best friend, as he walks the market.
Not a single stall is passed by him, even if the products are the same as the day before. Carefully, he will look over each and every item while making small talk.
“Alright this morning, Sir?”
“Is this a new recipe? The bread is sweeter than usual — it’s wonderful!”
“Oh my, your craft has improved greatly! I am impressed, keep at it!”
And then the King hands them exactly three gold coins even if he has no intention of buying anything. They’ll offer him something; a small item, or a piece of food, but he always denies it. A gift for them. Encouragement. Proof that he sees their skills and what they bring to the kingdom and is appreciative of it. It also reminds them that he truly cares about them as people. Without them, this city wouldn’t flourish the way it does.
Occasionally, he’ll buy something from the baker. He’s particularly fond of the blueberry poppy bread she makes. She’s a good woman; her husband fought hard and loyally for his father, and for that Jisung is eternally grateful for. Some weekends, he’ll visit her in her cottage. Have tea with her, listen to stories of her late beloved and all the great things he did in life.
She always gets five coins. But shush, don’t tell anybody.
At the end of the market is the only stall he’ll buy from everyday. Brown paper, pink twine, white daisies. The same thing, everyday. The florist always gives him a warm smile.
“How is she?”
And it brings a smile to The King’s face. The genuine care in their tones — because he genuinely cares.
“Well.” He digs in his coin purse, always pulling out too many coins. Just speaking about his love tinges his cheeks a dark pink. “As always.”
An exchange — coins, flowers. “When will you wed?”
“Shortly after my celebration day.” He denies the return of extra coins, as usual. “The autumn weather is her favorite.”
“Wish her well for me.”
“Of course.”
Jisung is a man of routine. Personal goodbyes to each and every merchant before he’s back on his horse. The sky is still pink when he’s back at the castle. The Hand takes his horse so the King can walk through the cool halls. Take the winding stairs up to the top level, where the royal family sleeps.
It used to just be him in this hall. Echoey, empty, reminding him of what price has to be paid for him to take the throne.
Not now, though. The room at the opposite end of the hall is now filled, well loved and used.
Taking a right from the staircase brings him to the door. Kindly dismissing the guard, the King knocks three times. A code; announcing himself without having to.
“Come in!”
The curtains are pushed open, fresh sunlight spilling in from the many windows. Yesterday’s daisies are in a crystal vase, sat on the table in the sitting area. Beautifully bloomed, the floral scent filling the golden room.
You’re by the biggest window, sat on the ledge. The glass is pushed open just slightly, letting the spring breeze cool your body. The dress you’re wearing is one of Jisung’s favorites; off the shoulder, a lavender color with little flowers stitched into the neckline with white thread.
The most beautiful soon-to-be Queen the land has ever seen.
“Good morning, petal.” The nickname rolls off his tongue. “Rest well?”
Closing the book, you nod. “And you, my dear?”
“All right.” Only a few steps away, he takes the bouquet out from behind his back and presents it to you. “For you. As always.”
Oh, the bright smile you give him. It’s like he’s falling in love with you all over again. Gracefully, you rise from your seat and take the fresh flowers, bringing to your nose to sniff.
“They’re lovely, Jisung. Thank you.”
Everyday, a peck to his cheek. Quick — you’re far too shy to linger. The King has a routine. So he turns his head just slightly, left side of his face presented to you. Ready to receive your gratitude.
The routine breaks. Swiftly, you walk past your fiancé, taking the flowers to the vase. Leaving him stunned.
Strange.
“I was wondering if today we might ride to the sea?” You don’t look to him as you speak — actually, it looks like you’re trying to hide behind the white flowers. “I’ve been a tad homesick.”
The steps he takes are cautious. “Of course.” Hesitance is laced in his tone. This isn’t your ordinary behavior. “What’s on your mind, darling?”
It’s like you’ve seen a ghost, blood running from your face and eyes widen. But in a snap, the expression is gone. “Oh, nothing. I want to write about the sea, you know how my brother loves it.”
Carefully, Jisung takes a seat on your velvet sofa. “Ah, yes. How is Seungmin?”
“His letters say he is well. The ocean is treating him nicely, though I wish he wouldn’t have chosen that path.”
Son and daughter of a prestigious family. One to be Queen, the other a runaway pirate.
“There’s always room for him in our kingdom. He would do well with us.”
You swallow dryly. What is happening? “The gracious and merciful Young King, what would this world be without you?”
Jisung can’t take this anymore. What has gotten into his beloved? Where is your head at? Grabbing your wrist, he pulls you away from the vase. Making you stand in front of him.
“Speak your worries.”
“I have none, Your Grace—“
“Though merciful, you know I hate to be made a fool.” His eyes narrow, but expression stays soft. “Love, let me help.”
You can’t meet his gaze, staring at the slit in your dress as you speak. “I’m afraid my thoughts are…doubtful.”
“Of?”
Finally, your eyes meet.
“Oh.”
What good is a crown? What good is a throne? What good is this kingdom if you are not by his side? Emotions tear at him, making his lip tremble despite his best efforts.
“Not of that kind.” You quickly reassure, catching the hurt on his face. “You are my love, Jisung. I would never want a life without you.”
“Good, good.” He won’t deny his worry. That isn’t fair to you. “Then what is it?”
Jisung thinks you’re precious. You still get so shy around him, even after years together. Especially when you want to express your feelings or ask for something.
Reassuringly, he rubs his thumb over the top of your hand, still caught in his. “You don’t have to—“
“I don’t want to wait any longer.”
The way you said it, so firm and confident. As if you’ve been pondering this, an opinion you’ve held for a while and are now sure of. The King is taken aback briefly, trying to figure out what your words mean.
“For the wedding?” It’s all he can come up with, but even he doesn’t sound too sure in it. “I’m sure we could plan it for the upcoming solstice, my love, if that’s what you desire.”
You shake your head quickly, and he can tell you’re starting to second guess saying it. “No, no. I want to wed in autumn. I don’t want to wait for you.”
What ever could you mean? Wait for him? Why, he’s right here. Touching you, speaking to you. Are you feeling ill? Those words make no—
Oh.
Oh, how he made himself the fool.
Suddenly, he’s in dire need of wine. Mouth dry, tongue heavy. Though he’s had many, many dreams of you in such a way, never would he push it on you. You felt as if your body was sacred, and he respected that. The King wants nothing but for you to feel comfortable and safe around him. If you were waiting for him, he would be waiting for you as well.
Sometimes the dresses you wear do drive him mad. Form fitting and hugging your curves, or with a lower neckline that he can see down at the right angle. Those have made it hard, and only starved him more. Like dangling bread in front of the hungry.
“Are you certain?” Jisung finally speaks, tone dropping several octaves.
You nod, softly wrapping your other hand around the one he has grasped. It’s so delicate, how you drop to your knees in front of him. Starry eyes blinking at him.
“More than, my King.” You bring the hands to your lips, soft kisses across his knuckles. “My patience is dry. I no longer want to wait for your love.”
“Rise.”
“What?”
“Your King gave you a command.” His demeanor changes like a switch, the feral need he’s drowned for so long rising to the surface. “Rise. No Queen of mine will ever kneel, even for me.”
Your eyes never leave his, standing up fully in front of him. He follows, using your hand as a guide up and into your body. A hand on the left side of your neck, fingers creeping into your perfectly combed hair. It’s used to bring your lips to his, properly kissing you.
Many kisses have been shared between you, but none like this. It’s intense, every pent up and buried feeling finding new life with the movement of your lips. It’s more addictive than the blueberry poppy bread from the baker, tongues desperate for the taste to linger. For the feelings to stay.
Loving you is a greater honor than the crown, the King is sure of it.
He curses your corset, making you giggle when he spins you gracefully to get a better look at it. The tugs on it are rough, eager to get the fabric off your body. Heavens, Jisung knows he loves this dress but does it have to be so dreadful to remove?
It’s too much. Your desires tangle with his own, sparking brighter than the jewels on the crown. Than the gold of coins. The energy it deepens the King’s decent — the hole you’re tumbling into doesn’t have a bottom.
Your nails rip his shirt, accidentally tangling the strings of his pants in your rush. There’s no grace in the first moments. Ready to see each other’s bodies, to touch, to taste. To be one.
The King tries his best to be gentle with you. To give you the sweetest kisses, careful touches. He’s heard stories, knows that it can be too much. The last thing he wants is for you to not find pleasure in this.
But, it can only last for so long. The breaking comes with he accidentally takes your breath away — truly, he didn’t mean to place his hand there. Apologies are ready to fumble out when he sees it.
The look you give him. Shocked, a little frightened. But excited.
Jisung never considered his ego very large, but he’s open to self reflection.
“Oh, petal, is this what you like?” He squeezes your throat, tips of his fingers digging into your soft skin. Though you nod, there’s no real need for an answer. He can feel it in the clench around his cock, the legs hooked around his waist pulling him closer. With a dry laugh, he picks up the pace of his hips. Fucking you hard enough the bed is becoming unstable. “I have to admit my surprise. The shy, gentle Queen likes to be fucked like a common whore.”
As soon as the words leave, he feels a tinge of regret. What harsh words to say to someone he loves—
Do his eyes deceive him? You’re whimpering, nodding your head. Unable to speak from the lack of air, but in full agreement.
Heavens. The King is done for.
“I’m sure they’d be glad to have you at the brothel.” Control is lost, the wooden frame starting to crack under the King’s intense movements. “Let the people have a taste of the King’s favorite cunt.”
“N-no.” You seem to speak. “Only y-you—“
“Aw, don’t be selfish, petal.” He pinches your cheek, finding joy in the tears painting your face. “You know I am a generous ruler.”
Jisung enjoys riling you up like this. Enjoys the tears, the cries, the way you’re twitching and squirming underneath him. Not to escape. No, from the force of something world shattering.
“Are you going to cum?” He teases you. “From those awful threats?”
You cannot help yourself, nodding quickly. Little, soft begs falling from your lips.
Maybe Jisung is power hungry. Maybe the crown has gone to his head. Maybe that’s why he laughs, stopping to leave you right on the edge. You’re so distraught, wide eyed and frantically begging for him to finish.
“Oh, but petal. I never said I would be generous to you.”

BL Best of 2022 - quick picks
Best KBL: Semantic Error
Tumblr media
Best Thai BL: Bad Buddy (remember for me this falls into 2022)
Tumblr media
Best JBL: this was the hardest pick for me because Japan came back SWINGING this year. So... I cheated.
Tumblr media
Best traditional live action yaoi? Minato’s Laundromat
Best modern BL? Takara & Amagi
Best for me, personally? Old Fashion Cupcake
Best Taiwan BL: My Tooth Your Love although I really adored DNA Says Love You and About Youth, the one fudged the beginning and the other the end (both are still v HEA) so My Tooth was the most consistent.
Tumblr media
Best director: Kato Ayaka (Old Fashion Cupcake) she did a fucking phenomenal job, and yes she had two killer actors to work with, but I am such a sucker for those long shots plus the sensual foods close ups? GIIRLLLLLLLL. Gah!
Tumblr media
Best kiss: honestly we had so many good kisses this year I have multiple blog posts going on the subject. But I am handing it over to the one that stuck in my head the most,Billy & Seng’s up against that chain gate with the damn blue towel sticking out of his back pocket in Secret Crush On You.
Tumblr media
The desperation was just insane. But I might have given it to OFC if they hadn’t already won the director category. And I flipping LOVE the Kissable Lips boys BTS smiley kiss from 304: 100% should have been on screen for us.
Best erotic moment: The shower neck make out kiss from side couple RainPayu in Oh! My Sunshine night.
Tumblr media
Runner up: VegasPete and the “ass to waist ratio” kiss in their kinky chain scene.
Best O scene: Oh the whole LITA special, they knew what they were doing. Doesn’t stop me being annoyed by the whole thing, tho.
Best cuddles: I mean it should got to 12% because, well, ENDLESSLY spectacular cuddles from SantaEarth but for me it was Star in My Mind’s cuddle+glare. I love me a vicious little “mine” moment.
Tumblr media
Best eye contact/soulmating/eyefucking: FirstKhao in The Eclipse although Japan did great work with THIRST this year (bit more one sided, that one).
Tumblr media
Best cinematography: Cherry Blossoms After Winter, I know, I know, but you know how I feel about yaoi, nostalgia and cinematic storytelling.
Best boohoo snot bubble I’m dazed and crying: Eternal Yesterday, every fucking episode, Choco Milk Shake (I hate you Strongberry, I love you Strongberry), To My Star 2 (I just hate you and you are not forgiven).
Most beloved character: Shin MY PRECIOUS BEAN SPROUT
Tumblr media
Best Pair: The Parks although I am also crazy about the To My Star and Kissable Lips boys. I really want more from all of them. Madness that it’s all Korea.
Tumblr media
Best Ensemble: The Eclipse had a killer cast but I expect that from GMMTV. So for all it was a mess of a story Cutie Pie wins best casting from me. All 3 couples had such good chemistry. I don’t think any other multi-couple shows out of Thailand were that on point, not even KP.
Tumblr media
Best siblings//family: My Ride, gotta hand it to the gay uncles and all the queer friends and the adopted son. Although DNA Says Love You was pretty darn great too.
Tumblr media
Best Food: There were so many food ones this year (Ocean Likes Me, Old Fashion Cupcake, La Cuisine, but none were as good food-wise as Bite Me last year) so the one where I actually wanted to eat stuff the most? What Zabb Man. What can I say? I love sweets and ramen, but Thai food is my last best hope in life.
Tumblr media
Best song: Eternal Yesterday’s OST Sunshower by Ayumu Imazu. I can’t believe Japan beat out Korea but I am sorry I just really fucking adore that song. I’m sucker for that raw slightly rough voice combined with Japan’s brusque style (and PINK hair).
youtube
But Leo’s I still from Happy Ending Romance is a close fucking follow up, that boy is dripping slightly-evil honey even in falsetto, he’s a perennially ignored goddamn gift to Kpop.
I do A LOT of best of lists, this is just the beginning. Also if you have a request of a top 10 of 2022 or any best of... name the tope lists, let me know in an RP or a comment.

December 2023
"I can't wait for you to get here, Stevie."
Eddie's voice sounds muffled through the headset, almost too quiet with all the noise around him. The video quality is shitty too, because while it's not even noon for Steve in Chicago, the sun has already set in London and Eddie is walking to the Phoenix Theater to start setting up the sound for the evening show. Steve can see the streetlights in the background casting shadows across Eddie's face. It's a busy street Eddie's walking down and people keep bumping into him, the chatter around him mixing with the sound of passing cars. From the looks of it, it must be Piccadilly, which means Eddie is almost at his current place of employment.
"Me too. God, I miss seeing your stupidly pretty face outside of a tiny screen with a shitty solution." Steve's sigh is tinged with longing instead of annoyance. It's not Eddie's fault that he had to cut back on the bandwidth for their video calls when he was out. The six-hour time difference only made it more difficult for them to both be home with decent broadband to talk. Or do other things.
Eddie grinned down at the screen, and even with the poor solution and bad lighting, Steve could see the pleased expression on his boyfriend's face. "Aww, you think I'm pretty? Stevie, I had no idea." Eddie coos, making it sound like a joke. Steve knows it's not, not really. Which is stupid, because Eddie is one of the most attractive guys Steve has ever seen, with his big brown doe eyes and full lips and interesting nose, tattoos littering the skin of his lithe body. If Steve were there right now, he would grab Eddie and kiss him silly, showing him exactly how pretty Steve thought he was.
"Baby, you know how beautiful I think you are. And how sexy and sweet and funny..." Steve teases, keeping it light, while reassuring his boyfriend that for Steve, Eddie is the best thing that has ever happened to him.
"Okay, okay, big boy, I get it. I guess I just need you to show me when you get here." He waggles his eyebrows suggestively and winks, looking like the biggest dork in existence with his giant headphones and his nose red from the cold and that beloved toothy grin that Steve needs to kiss, like, yesterday.
He quickly scanned the hallway outside his office to make sure no one was coming in before lowering his voice to that deep, seductive tone he usually only uses when they're both under the sheets with their cocks on their hands. "Oh baby, believe me, when I finally get my hands on you, I'm going to show you as many times as you can take it. And then some if you're good."
His words have the desired effect, as Eddie pauses for a moment to put a hand to his face before pressing his phone to his chest and turning the screen black. Steve can make out the faint "jesus h. christ" over the noise, probably because he knew how Eddie would react after two years with him.
Eddie doesn't stop for long though, pushed forward by the crowd around him. "You're a menace, Harrington. A bloody menace, I tell ya."
"Oh, baby, I love it when you talk British to me." It's said in a teasing voice, but there's some truth to it. Eddie's accent had been one of the first things that had piqued Steve's interest when they first met. It's no secret that he loves it when his boyfriend uses it to rile him up even more.
"You've got some weird kinks, Stevie."
"Only for you," Steve says and then adds with a voice that is only for Eddie's ears these days, "I can't wait to show you all the dirty things I think about when I'm alone in bed with my hard cock in my hand, wishing it was your hand or your mouth or, fuck, your ass gripping it tight." He doesn't have to play up the moan that follows, because it's been five months since they last saw each other, and Steve is almost certain he's going to come in his pants the moment Eddie gives him a hug.
"Bloody hell, I'm in public! You can't just... There are rules, Steven. Rules." Judging by the edge of desperation in Eddie's voice, he's not alone in his need.
"Guess you'll have to punish me then, huh? Show me my place."
"Oh, look, I'm at the theater. My place of employment. Guess we'll have to table this lovely discussion until you get here and we have some privacy to talk this over more thoroughly."
"Can't wait, baby. Love you."
"I love you too, sweetheart."
Only one more day before he can hold Eddie in his arms again. Despite all the dirty talk, that's what Steve is looking forward to the most. He can almost feel the comforting weight of Eddie against him, the solid and warm body wrapped tightly in his arms, Eddie's breath on his neck and Steve's nose buried in his dark curls.
With another longing sigh, Steve looks at the clock on the wall before picking up his pen again to go over the remaining paperwork on his desk. Eight hours until his flight to London, he might as well get some last minute work done before he takes the rest of the year off to stay with Eddie.

Finally, I thought of a question! What shows, if any, did you rate a 10 on MDL, and why? And if you haven't rated any a 10, why not?
Oh snap! Yes thank you, I will take the opportunity to promote some extremely well-executed dramas. First, a note on how I think of drama ratings: I try to always judge shows by their own standards and I think primarily about the execution of the story rather than my own personal emotional reactions. For me, a 10/10 means the drama executed its own vision and purpose with a high degree of fidelity and is virtually without flaws in that execution. So for me, a short kbl romcom can get a 10 and so too can a 70 episode cdrama historical epic. I am not comparing them to each other, but rather to the standards of their own genres and the scale of their own ambitions.
That said, I'm a stingy b (@bengiyo, @waitmyturtles and @neuroticbookworm can attest) and dramas without significant flaws are actually pretty hard to come by. Calibrating a story perfectly to fit within all the constraints of filmmaking is actually an extremely difficult balance of art and science. Drama creation is hard work! As I was discussing with @sorry-bonebag the other day, most dramas are either too short or too long and it throws off the pacing and results in some questionable story decisions. And there are often other motives and considerations that have nothing to do with art getting in the way (hello capitalism!) Some of my personal all-time favorites do not get a 10 because I have issues with choices they made somewhere in the storytelling (waves hello to my beloveds Bad Buddy and Coffee Prince). I have completed 346 dramas that are trackable on MDL (with another 9 currently in progress) and only 10 of them have received a 10 from me. There are a whole slew rated 9 and 9.5 though, and those are all excellent and you should check them out. And of course I must include the caveat that there are some rumored all-time bangers that I have still not had the chance to watch and may someday become a 10.
So, which 10 dramas succeeded in passing my very high bar for a 10/10 rating? Drumroll please…

WIP Wednesday
Tumblr media
Thank you so much to my beloved @stellarm and @onthewaytosomewhere for the tags
Since I posted a big chapter for Bloodstream yesterday (here) I took a break for 24 hrs and focused on my other (small town/lake house) WIP
Story : Henry is a hotelier in London, but his life has become unbearable, so he flees to Texas, where he inherited a house from his aunt (yes I gave Arthur Fox a sister).
I promise I'm working on a better summary. Also, this is a first draft.
The view of the lake is stunning.
Henry puts his messenger bag on the kitchen counter, taking in the inside of the house. There is a spacious cottage-style kitchen with all the modern appliances. A couple of steps lead to a cozy living room with a stonewall fireplace and comfortable couches. There’s a gigantic bookshelf filled to the brim with books, and he smiles for the first time in weeks.
He knows his aunt Marjorie shared the same taste in books as he does, so it’s good to know he’s covered for a while, mainly since most of his own, aside from a few favorites, remained in England.
And he’s not going back for a long, long while.
He needed to get his suitcase out of the rental car, but his priority was to get David out after the one-hour-and-a-half drive from Austin so he could do his business—directly on the car's tire, no less- and get into the house.
This house left to him by his aunt, who probably saved his life by doing so.
He can still hear Pez’s voice in his head (“Just go, Hazza. Fuck that Wicked Witch of the West. I’ll miss you, but I prefer you alive.) and Bea softly smiling at him because she knows. She understands.
That same smile looks at him from the picture on the kitchen counter, a teenage Bea with her arm around him, always the protective big sister. He stares at his own face, a young boy with a big smile, and wonders how it all went so wrong.
Next to that picture is another one of Marjorie and Arthur. They are in their mid-twenties, looking young and beautiful. She never followed in her brother’s footsteps, choosing a quiet life away from the media, but unlike him, she had the chance to grow old and live a fulfilling life.
His father remains eternally young, his face and smile frozen in time in family pictures and film pellicles.
A sudden wave of grief grips Henry’s chest, making him stumble, and he sits down on the steps, trying to catch his breath. He hasn’t had one in a while, probably because he was too busy packing his stuff and leaving everything behind.
His job, which he loves, but he can’t bear the toxic environment created by his grandmother anymore.
His family, even though he will only truly miss Bea. They have promised each other to keep in touch several times a week despite the time difference, and she will come to see him soon.
London, where he lived all his life.
So here he is, 5000 miles from home in Small Town, Texas (otherwise known as Horseshoe Bay), where he doesn’t know anyone and has no idea what the Bloody Hell he will do with his life.
It is terrifying. Part of him knows he should find it exhilarating, but he is having trouble connecting with his optimistic self right now.
He doesn’t even know where to start.
Henry feels a wet nudge at his arm. He looks down, sees David looking at him with his big puppy eyes, and laughs through tears he hadn’t realized were falling. The beagle puts its paw on his arm and tries to lick his face, and he pulls the dog against him, pressing a kiss and nuzzling his nose in its soft fur.
“We’ll be alright, my darling. We’ll be alright.”.

they’re just babies oh my god they’re just stretching out the time thinner and thinner until you can see through them both and every moment they hold on is a new and more horrible kind of hurt and they can’t make themselves let go, they can’t imagine letting time snap back because it would tear them apart and they can’t think about that, they mean the world to one another and their worlds are drifting apart and if they keep stretching time like this sooner or later it’ll drag them over the edge into the abyss in between, and they’re just so young. my god. this is their first time being in love. this is their first time feeling these things. this is going to be their first time having sex and it’s going to be so fucking bittersweet, not in a high-school-sweethearts nostalgia way but like a real tragedy. all these firsts and they all smell just a little like death. they fell in love so slowly, so sincerely, and found such peace and warmth in one another, and a rainy morning and a speeding truck and it’s gone, it’s time, the clock is ticking down. they’re holding on and it’s killing them both and they never even got a chance to fall a little out of love. they never got a chance to grow apart or break each other’s hearts or make this easier on themselves by doing what first loves always do. a stupid cruel knife twist turning a first love story into a last love story and it isn’t fair it isn’t fair it isn’t fair

Bengiyo Queer Cinema Syllabus
For those who are not aware, I have decided to run the gauntlet of @bengiyo’s Queer Cinema Syllabus and have officially started Unit 3: Faith and Religion. The films in Unit 3 are: But I’m a Cheerleader (2000), Prayers for Bobby (2009), Latter Days (2003), Blackbird (2014), The Wise Kids (2011), Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party (2015)
Today I will be writing about
Latter Days (2003) dir. C. Jay Cox
Tumblr media
[Run Time: 1:48 , Available: tubi, youtube premium, amazon but you have to get a free trial to something else…I tried watching it…somewhere else but they were updating the movie so I caved and went to tubi, Lang: English]
Summary: Latter Days is a 2003 American romantic comedy-drama film about a gay relationship between a closeted Mormon missionary and his openly gay neighbor. (from wiki)
Cast: * Wes Ramsey as Christian Markelli * Steve Sandvoss as Elder Aaron Davis
___
Content Warnings because I don't really write about those parts of the movie here: this film gets to a dark place, it includes self harm/a suicide attempt, homophobia, medical torture, and a story about being left to die by a parent. Alright, so after sufficiently crying my eyes out binging Eternal Yesterday, I decided there was enough time in the evening to knock out another film from the syllabus. Today’s film was (partially) about Mormons and Mormonism. My own personal understanding of Mormonism does not extend too far beyond The Book of Mormon: The Musical. Which gave me some impression that homosexuality is a sin, but only if acted upon.
Which, is gonna suck for our poor dear Elder Davis, when he and three other Elders roll in to Los Angeles and in to a house across from our beloved booty shorts wearing waiter. The movie seems pretty low budget, and it’s from 2003 so there are some, what I would call cheesy camera effects happening at the beginning, but I still enjoyed the way the world seemed sped up and disorienting when Mr. Mormon lands in Los Angeles from his home in Idaho.
I love our introduction to Christian as an unapologetically queer, slutty man and not only that, but Christian has his sex life together. He remembers who he has slept with, and when, and takes fucking notes and everything. Like, he’s truly impressive.

Aaron and Christian make eye contact as every love at first sight story is wont to do, and then realize later they are neighbors. At which point a lot of decently subtle things start to happen. Aaron starts sitting outside to study his scripture in hopes of running in to Christian, Aaron and Christian talk about his mission trip, we get to see the four Elders interact, etc. and these subtler moments were aspects of this film that I deeply appreciated.
Do not get me wrong, this film is absolutely critical of the Mormon church, (there is a scene near the end of the film where Elder Davis is getting excommunicated from the church for being a homosexual), but there are a lot of quite parts they do not say out loud around the intentional isolation that The Church of Latter Day Saints creates by sending their boys on missions trips in the first place.
This film does not, in my opinion, explicitly discuss or state that mission trips really seem to be less to recruit new members and more to make sure their younger members don’t go running off to join the rest of society. The Elders are not allowed to see their family for two years, their families are not allowed to see them, they are not allowed to listen to music, to watch television, all the Elders in that location live together in one house, they share a room so there is no privacy, they go knocking door to door to try to spread the word only to have the doors slammed repeatedly in their face. These tactics exist to make these boys homesick, to make the outer world seem hostile, to bring the Mormon roommates closer together when the outsiders push them away. But the implication is there.
Tumblr media
I have to share the quote that comes with this gif: "You're gonna come in to my house and tell me God hates homosexuals?" || "And the French!"
And actually, the thing I appreciate the most about this commentary is the fact that the Elders are aware of this, and that they are allowed to be young men. I loved that one Elder was talking to Aaron about how mission trips were designed to be difficult, and that you can tell he is generally disinterested in spreading The Word. This Elder views his mission trip as the last major hoop he has to jump through before he can marry his girlfriend and “finally nail her”. Horniness fuels his motivation to get through this mission.
These “Elders” (and I put quotes here not to strip them of their titles but to point out the irony) are nineteen or twenty years old. They are fucking gross. Their apartment is decorated like boys live there, with bean bag chairs and all, and they fart on each other, and wrestle, and bite their bedframes to try to stop themselves from jerking off. Hell, when they first move in, Christian mistakes them for a frat house. They are homophobic, and throw slurs around, but they look incredulous at the mere thought of consuming alcohol.
The first time Aaron is faced with the potential to give in to his gay thoughts, he tells Christian he hasn’t done anything. When Christian says it doesn’t have to mean anything and Aaron says “yes it does”, he asks “my first time can just be a little fun for you?” like Aaron was fully planning on having sex with Christian. I like that Aaron, as a young man is going 0 to 100 with the physical intimacy.
I often have difficulty with romance stories in movie formats because I have to push past how quickly two characters fall in love. Which is the case here that Christian is confessing his love for Aaron after they have interacted like…five times total. But, I appreciate the ways they show us that Christian and Aarong would be good for each other. We see them being absolute nerds, saying movie quotes to each other. I love that we know Aaron is going to break the rules and eventually give in to Christian, just based on the fact that he gives Christian his first name. Which he is not supposed to use when he’s on his mission trip.

I am not a religious person, so I don’t usually pay attention to whether or not a film that critics religion is going to take a hard atheistic turn or not. But I actually thought it was compassionate, kind, and in keeping with the nature of like, religion as spirituality, versus religion as control and fear tactic. I like that all these little coincidences happened, that Christian saw Aaron through his taxi cab window, that Aaron talked to and comforted Lila (Christians’ boss) when she was having a bad day and she gave him her card and told him to come to her restaurant for a free meal, that when Christian is looking for Aaron his random doodles end up being the phone number he needs to call, that Julie in stealing entries from Christian’s diary for her song allowed Aaron to hear it in the facility his parents put him in and return to LA, and that Aaron and Christian were reunited because Aaron cashed in on that free meal from Lila.
And so too with the man Christian meets who is dying of AIDS, how he touches him and only sees snow. How he chalks that up to Christian being a blank person, shallow. The same way that Aaron has described Christian “there is nothing, nothing about you, Christian that isn’t skin deep”. And how we see Christian recoil from the touch, from the words ‘snow’ (and we will come to find out later, why that is the case).
Tumblr media
Like these can all be coincidences, or they could be chalked up to fate, or a higher power, or whatever you want. Latter Days does not reject the idea of religion, it leaves room for a religious, higher power explanation to exist. Aaron and Aaron’s faith, the way he views the world, the importance that his values hold to him do still impact Christian. I don’t know how much he believes in God, but when Aaron calls him shallow, he takes that to heart, he really thinks about it, he realizes that what has been drawing him to Aaron is the depth, the conversations, they aren’t just gonna fuck.
Not that I think monogamy needs to happen, or that Christian needs to have calmed down the sluttiness. Just, that in a film about religion and its intersections with sexuality, when you are going to be critical of a Church that has done very very real harm. That there is a mutual exchange here. Christian gets more depth as a result of meeting Aaron and Aaron (eventually) gets freedom as a result of meeting Christian.
BL Side Note
Tumblr media
I also need to say, since this syllabus is technically supposed to act as a lead up to BLs, that Latter Days has the sponge bath trope! Aaron wipes down Christian’s body with a washcloth after he faints from seeing blood. The sexual tension rises between Aaron and Christian, until they are about a fraction of a second away from kissing, and Aaron bails.
For/By/About
Tumblr media
Gay Trifecta.
The director of Latter Days, C. Jay Cox is a gay man and a (former) fifth generation Mormon.
This film did not hit me in the emotional place where I would normally say the films I rate as For The Queers go. But, this is a deeply personal film for the screen writer and Director who is gay and therefore it feels like it should be for gays. And, in addition I feel like they were enough casual references to things that don’t get full explanations that would read and be understood by a queer audience but maybe not by a straight audience. I think there are dimensional portrayals of the queer characters and they don’t succumb to stereotypes, and for those reasons I would categorize it as being for us.
Favorite Moment
Tumblr media
The post-sex conversation that Aaron and Christian have, where Aaron asks if Christian has ever had the experience of being cut off from everything, and we finally get some more of Christian’s backstory. Now, like I said above, there are some understated aspects of this film that I do think are really smart. Aaron calls Christian shallow at one point, and my first thought was “oh honey, you are wrong” because of how Christian spoke to Aaron earlier on in the movie about being desperate to get away from home. Sure, Christian is generally now, emotionally reserved and has some growing to do. But, Aaron vastly underestimates the weight behind a gay man saying that he left home and never looked back. Because Aaron had a good relationship to his family (before he came out).
If the monologue wasn’t multiple paragraphs I would probably put the whole speech as my favorite quote.  But, fundamentally what makes this scene for me is that Christian is telling Aaron this, while they are both naked in bed. Aaron has just had sex for the first time, and there is just this level of casual inclusion of nudity. I am generally an advocate for increasing the inclusion of non-sexual nudity on screen. I feel like people tend to spend a lot more causal time naked than they do sexual time naked, and I think Latter Days did a really phenomenal job of shifting between sexual nudity and casual nudity in the same setting, with the same characters, at the same time.
Tumblr media
When Aaron and Christian first enter the airport hotel, they are shedding their clothing with the intention of having sex. The scene is charged with sexual tension, shirts and pants are coming off as fast as they can, every movement brings them closer to the bed. But after they are done, Aaron, still naked, slides across Christian’s naked body to grab a watch off the floor, and Christian holds his leg so he won’t slide off the bed. It’s just comfortable. When Christian is talking to Aaron about his experience of being left in a snowstorm by his father, they are nude because they are being laid bare. I don’t know if I can describe it properly, but I just love that this really important conversation, where Aaron is learning that Christian understands far far better than Aaron ever could have thought about what you risk losing when you are queer, happens with literally everything out in the open.
Favorite Quote
“It’s early November, the same as now, and there's this storm rolling in. My dad was so determined that sissy boy was going to kill something. Snow came at us from all sides. The air, the sky, the ground they all became the same and horrible screaming white and I thought ‘we’re gonna be OK, right?” And then I saw my father’s eyes and they were that same white…and that’s when he did it.” “He did what?”  “Ran.”
This quote comes from part of the monologue I mentioned in my Favorite Scene.
Score
8/10
Latter Days is an 8/10 for me for a few reasons, the acting was not always the best, it was clear they did not have either the time or the budget for perfection. There were stutters that read far more like actors forgetting their lines than they did like natural pauses. I also was not thrilled with the death fake out. Like, I am very much glad we did not see Aaron self-harm, and that some of the other torture he went through gets dampened a bit by dream sequence shenanigans. I figured that they were not actually going to kill Aaron off, but they do spend quite a lot of time letting the audience think he is dead, and I am not super appreciative of that.

Was it Perfect? No. Was it Joyous? Yes.
Okay, I did a bunch of shitposting yesterday but now it's time to collect some coherent thoughts on what I liked and didn't about "The Giggle", the Doctors' bi-generation and RTD's HEA.
───── ⋆⋅*ੈ⋆。✶.ೃ࿔𖦹 ✩₊˚⋆ ─────
Donna: I would’ve liked Donna to have a little more to do in the final ep. She just worked out the arpeggio thing and followed the Doctor round trying to have earnest conversations with him. When she was sat with the Doctor and the Toymaker, I kept thinking she was gonna insert herself into the game and insist she be dealt in too. Instead, it became another case of supernatural male genius vs supernatural male genius. Maybe this is me being greedy though. Because the last ep was ALL DT and CT and the whole anniversary season has been very focused on Donna and the Doctor. They had to make room somewhere for a fabulous villain (which he was), a new Doctor (also fab) and the UNIT ensemble (fab-est of all), so I guess that meant a little less Donna.
Donna did have some great moments, including annihilating those creepy puppets (which made me lol), meeting Mel and refusing to let the Doctor die alone. I do think Donna should’ve been the one to lust after 15 (much like she did when meeting Captain Jack), but maybe this older, settled version of Donna is less thirsty. As for UNIT, no doubt she will be fired regularly but then promptly rehired because she’s so indispensable (and beloved). Best of all, I love the idea of her, Shirley, Mel and Kate going out for post-work drinks while Donna’s two husbands wait at home, tapping their watches and wondering where their ginger chatterbox has gotten to.
Male Parthenogenesis: Now, RTD knows his DW lore far better than I do and apparently there is some precedent for this. But I still say the metacrisis from ep 1 could have been used to better effect in this episode, with Donna essentially healing the Doctor with her excess regeneration energy and Rose creating the new Doctor with her share of the metacrisis/regeneration energy. Because, modern understandings of gender and deep-dive fan knowledge aside, Doctor Who pretty much revolves around the idea of male parthenogenesis, man birthing man, passing on history, tradition, power, experience and greatness. Socioculturally, asexuality is fairly unfamiliar to us, but we are all indoctrinated with patriarchal, heteronormative narratives from birth. And historically, men have expressed their fear and envy of the power and potential of women/pregnant people by attempting to steal it for themselves, control creation myths and birth male gods and monsters. All the while, they completely disavowed (even denigrated) the role women/pregnant people have played in birthing this world. Through the lens of heteronormativity, regeneration offers men and boys eternal power and godlike creativity. So yeah, I would’ve liked a grown woman/mother and a trans girl just coming into her power as a woman to get a little of that regeneration action that usually belongs to the boys (with the exception of 13). Not because women and birth parents are defined by this biological function but because the male urge to own and control birth, creation and reproduction still has very real-world impacts for girls, women, enbys and trans people.
Bi-generation: So. The big question is: Does bi-generation diffuse the power and pathos of THE Doctor? Yes. Does it follow that this is a bad thing? No. Not necessarily, not in my mind. I am not a fan of showrunners rewriting known history for shock value or fan service, but I’m not sure this is either. I understand the argument that there is power and meaning in the idea of death and rebirth, letting go and moving on, changing and learning with experience. But for all of that to be owned and embodied by one usually male/male presenting person and played by a popular, powerful cis-het male actor is a problem embedded in this show from the get. NuWho has consistently made an effort to alleviate the inherent power imbalance built into the format, distributing the incredible power of the Doctor amongst a community of extra/ordinary human beings. Some showrunners have been able to do this better than others. That said, we’ve also had a good long stint of the Doctor being a singular, tortured genius who no one quite understands, no one can ever really equal. Whatever gifts companions and their families bring, the Doctor will always be bigger, older, wiser, eternal. But, through the magic of bi-generation, his power can be shared, his centrality dispersed, his reach limited, his experience idiosyncratic, and his knowledge discrete.
Over the years, the Doctor has accrued a lot of trauma and tragedy and suffering and longing, all by virtue of this incredible power. This burden was never been more wetly portrayed than by DT so it’s fitting that he be the one to release both the power and the burden of the sad, wet, lonely Timelord by SHARING IT, by becoming plural rather than singular. It may not feel satisfying, partially because it feels unfamiliar. The trope of the lone tortured genius is recognisable and relatable. We know it well, from so many narratives. Personally, I can’t imagine Ncuti Gatwa as a lone tortured genius. I want him to have a new joyous start. And hey, if you miss the tortured Doctor then 15 has all of time and space in which to once again start accruing trauma and tragedy. But I think it’s good, and time, for 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 to drop their load and come down to earth. No longer a god, an avenging angel, an objective overseer, but essentially, a human being. Which is kinda what he/she/they wanted to be all along. This IS the death of one version of this show, one version of this character, but it isn’t being offered without regeneration and rebirth right there on the horizon.
Happily Ever After: RTD is not like other showrunners. He’s a bold and marvellous beast who isn’t afraid to change things up, especially when they’re not working or have outlived their usefulness. We’re often told that happy endings are trite, trivial, insignificant, unrealistic. Drama, tragedy, sorrow and suffering: that’s where all the weight and meaning of life lies. And look, RTD can write tragedy and pathos as well if not better than the best of them. He could have given us “Journey’s End” or “The End of Time” redux. He could have given twisted and complicated and harrowing. He chose not to. Because, unlike SO MANY SHOWRUNNERS, RTD knows when to write an ending, when to resolve tension, when to heal wounds. It’s common practice, especially in the American television industry, to just…never end, never resolve, never stop, never state, never land. To just flog a creative horse until it drops dead. (At least, this was the television I grew up with; streaming services have altered this model somewhat.)
Doctor Who is exactly the kind of intellectual property that could’ve (and could still under Disney) fall victim to the capitalistic urge for moremoremoremoremoremoremore, despite the fact that such endlessness eventually exhausts creativity and, with it, audience interest. A capitalist never wants the revenue stream to end. But a real writer, a true creator is bold enough to know where to place a well-timed full-stop. In my opinion, RTD read the room and wrote an ending. An ending that the show and the world needed. An ending that shared power. An ending that celebrated ordinary humanity. An ending that healed trauma and prioritised love. An ending that still allows for new life, new potential, new discoveries, new structures, new understandings, and new joy. All of that is totally on-brand for RTD. Those themes of multiplicity, humanity, healing, love and possibility pervade the 60th anniversary specials from beginning to end. They were built into the fabric of each episode. And they’re also the very essence of Doctor Who.

GIVE ME STRIPPER AU OR GIVE ME DEATH
beloved zo, hello darling 💖💖
as usual, my wips are below the cut
au where Gavin is getting his bag and his meals at the same time as a stripper at an empowered club, Lasko/Freelancer are already together but poly with eventual Gavin/Lasko/FL, Lasko-centric thank you to my sunshine for being my eternal Lasko inspiration, strip club typical events
Summary from my WIP - I also posted a wip of this yesterday
"The semester ends at DAMN, the rest of the DAMN squad are still friends. They all decide that to celebrate the semester being over and to get Lasko out, they’re going to go to this strip club that is getting rave reviews and live a little. Lasko is terrified, easily flustered, but so very horny and he doesn’t want to say no. So they go, and they walk in and there’s Gavin bent over holding someone’s face into his ass while he twerks in the skimpiest set of lingerie ever seen. Lasko, despite being the subbiest sub to have ever subbed, sees all the muscles and the control Gavin has and is weak in the knees.
Gavin, being an incubus, can literally feel the attraction directed towards him and makes eye contact with Lasko and winks and Lasko almost has a heart attack and requires Full Team Support to recover from this blow.
The best part about Gavin is that he can go from bratty twink in lingerie on a stage performance with the pole to dom hunk as he works the floor covered in oil. Lasko has it bad, immediately. I really just need Freelancer to pay for Lasko to get a lap dance from Gavin, and for Lasko to turn red and cause a light breeze that musses Gavin’s hair while he pulls some Magic Mike moves. Lasko comes in his pants and is very fucking embarrassed."

The Believer's Daily Remembrancer
Tumblr media
by Rev. James Smith
"I am the bread of life." – John 6:35
Jesus proposeth Himself to be our daily sustenance--we need bread for the soul as well as the body. In Jesus is all we need to refresh, strengthen, and satisfy us; but He must be received by faith. He must be daily received. Feeding upon Jesus yesterday will not do for today. We must go to Him afresh this morning. He presents Himself; He says, "Eat, O friends; yea, satisfy yourselves, O my beloved." If the Holy Spirit has given us a spiritual appetite, if we are hungering after righteousness, Jesus, and Jesus only will satisfy us; and we are heartily welcome to live upon Him. Let us set Him before us many times in the day; let us endeavour to feed upon Him; and if we feel weak, faint, or weary, let us make use of this life-giving bread; and let us ever retain the sweet assurance, that if we feed on Jesus we shall live by Him, and have eternal life. Beloved, if you can make a living of anything but Jesus; or if Jesus is not enough in your estimation, you are either in a carnal, or an unhealthy state of soul. Jesus only is THE BREAD OF LIFE: THE BREAD WHICH CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN!
Jesus, Thou art the living bread By which our needy souls are fed, In Thee alone thy children find Enough to fill the empty mind; O let me evermore be fed With this divine, celestial bread!

Silence in Glamour's Wake
→ Osamu Miya x Fem ! Actress Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Miya Osamu finds himself a reluctant guest at an award function, accompanying his brother, Atsumu. Lost in a sea of opulence, Osamu's disengaged gaze lands on an actress whose name eludes his memory.
Content Warnings: after party, fluff, swearing, underlying angst on osamu’s part, osamu miya needs some sleep, atsumu is shirtless at one point because yes
Word Count: 1.5k words
Author's Notes: This is painstakingly a first draft but I'll edit it soon, I promise. Enjoy!
Also, this is how I imagine Osamu in this story. Hugh Grant, my beloved <3

Tumblr media
His eyes take in the imagery of the entrance to the avenue. He takes in the scene –  the event is one of ostentatious glamour and blinding jewels; with actors and actresses scattered across much like priced antiques at a flea market. They stand in their spots for the onlookers to gawk at, to be interviewed, and to eternalise. They will remain ageless and timeless in the photographs taken today. Their photographs will make it all the way to eternity. His will age and weather to dust in the confines of his shop, and perhaps, with luck by his side, his photograph may even make it into a small crevice within his grandchild's house.
His gaze shifts to the flurry of activity where the photographers are crowding at. He moves his head to see past the heads blocking his eye-line and he sees more people racing around her, people assisting her with her dress by straightening out the creases at the edge of her seams and another rushing to touch up her makeup. He realises he’s seen a movie or two with her in it, but he can’t really recall her name. People scramble to make her look picture-perfect. But she isn't, he decides.
He notices a soft smudge in her makeup, the trembling in her hands, and a look of wrapped-up confusion on her face. It fades — very quickly — into a big smile, he almost thinks he must've imagined all the imperfections. He doesn't think anyone else noticed, aside from the ones who tried hard to fix them, but he does because he supposes that is what disengaged onlookers would do.
If he’s being honest, he’s been flitting rather mindlessly from one overstimulating scene to another, staggering behind his brother and his brother’s co-star. That is if he could even call Atsumu a star at all, at least in the realm of acting.
Atsumu recently cameoed for a brief few seconds, seconds so short you could almost miss it unless you truly cared about him, or about the film. The film later went on to gain one too many acclamations, and in turn, the organizers of the event decided to extend an invitation to Atsumu, and one lucky guest. The guest was hand-picked almost instantly, explaining Osamu’s current predicament.
Osamu tried to turn it down really, he had firmly decided and he walked up to Atsumu with an apology ready and everything but once he looked at the stupid ugly grin adorning his face, he soberly agreed to join him. He found that he could rarely ever say no to Atsumu when it came to certain things.
His eyes flit up to the actress, and he notices that her smile is still present but not as big. He also notices a soft slump in her back when the cameras move to the next star — an actor this time. He doesn’t turn to look back at you, now enamoured by the actor, noticing his tastefully coordinated outfit embellished with a sweet leather jacket. He’s always wanted one, but could never truly bring himself to buy one.
The award function went by in a swift few hours, what with Osamu being asleep for most of it. He really should have taken the day off work yesterday, he thinks as he dawdles at the bar of the afterparty. He felt bad, but he has an inkling that Atsumu barely cared about his presence after a bit, what with him cozying up with a certain actress he seemed to recognise from a few movie posters that have been on the billboards of late. But he did learn the actress’ name, the one from the red carpet, when she cascaded up the stairs to pick up her award — her first SAG award, she exclaimed and went on to speak an eloquent few words, thanking so and so. He doesn’t remember the rest, but it seemed to be something akin to the dozen other speeches he heard today.
He dawdles across, not really knowing how to interact with the people, they’re all so — trained? He’s not one for networking, he’s good at socialising, but not networking. He moves from room to room, trying to find one that’s empty, or at least almost empty.
He’s tired and he wants to sleep but he also doesn’t want to half-ass this. And frankly, he thinks if he falls asleep before 1 am today, he will have to consider it a personal failure. So, he walks out of the room and moves on to another. He can’t tell if he’s already been here since they all look a bit alike — white walls, fancy couches, dim yellow light, sometimes a dim blue light. He walks in, and his fingers may as well be crossed, and… it’s empty.
He hears a clang, just then. Well, almost empty, he thinks.
He looks up, and it’s you — the SAG award winner, the eloquent speaker, and the red-carpet actress. You’re wearing a different outfit now, a lot less glamorous but still something an actress would wear to an event.
“Shit!” You exclaim, but before you could bend down to pick up whatever has fallen, he picks it up instead. It looks like an earring, an intricate one at that.
“Here,” he gives it to you, and he almost drops it again, it’s surprisingly slippery against his fingers.
“Fuck,” you half-laugh in relief. “Wouldn’t want to drop that.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah,” you say as you delicately place the earrings in an embezzled case of silver. “I’d have to buy it then.”
“It’s not yours?” He asks, rather confused.
“Nope, just on loan for now.”
“Okay.”
“I don’t really like it,” you say.
“Okay,” he responds.
A few beats later, he asks, out of sheer curiosity, “But you could buy it, right?”
You look up, a bit surprised, but you reply, “Yeah.”
“Okay,” he says.
“Wouldn’t want to though,” you add.
“Fair enough,” he shrugs.
He isn’t really sure if he should leave the room, or if he should introduce himself, so he just stands there with the drink in his hand. He becomes all too aware of the precipitating water leaking around the rim of the cup and his fingers. He feels like he should place the drink down at before the cup slips past his fingers, so he does, and that somehow prompts you to sit.
He promptly takes a seat on the sofa adjacent to yours. You and he sit in silence, you nursing your drink just as he nurses his.
“I’m Miya, by the way.” He says after sitting silently for a bit. He finds that it’s nice — the silence, you look like you wanted it — but something prompts him to talk so he did. “Miya Osamu,” he clarifies. He always does.
“I know,” you say.
“You… do?” He asks, letting the confusion sit on his face, with a tilted head, and squinting eyes.
“Yeah,” you say, and he waits. A beat later, he realises that you are probably not going to elaborate.
“How come?” He asks, feeling a bit too curious for his liking.
“Hmm,” you say inquisitively. “So… you’re telling me you’re not the blonde guy dancing shirtless on top of a kitchen table,” you ask.
He looks confused but he peeks out the window, which displays another room in sight, one that has his brother, joyously, and drunkenly dancing atop a cluttered table to a crowd of people. The amusement in your tone is not very evidently present, but he supposes that makes it all the more amusing.
“Yeah,” he chuckles and shakes his head. “Yeah, that’s not me.”
“Right,” you smile. “Good to know.”
The two of you sit again in the gregarious silence as you take a sip of your drink and slump further into your chair, twisting a bit till you found a comfortable position.
“I could tell though,” you say after a few moments of silence, and he looks up at you again. “When you walked in,” you continue. “I could tell you weren’t Atsumu.”
“Could you?” He asks, interested again in this conversation, and in you.
“Yeah, I have had the pleasure of meeting Atsumu Miya, and you, well, you aren’t him.” He isn’t sure how to take it, he never is sure about that, but he decides to take it with grace per usual, as he prepares his words.
“You have a calmer quality to you,” you say before he could say anything.
He doesn’t say anything. He takes a sip of his drink, “You could tell that with… what? All of the 5 seconds I took to walk into the room?” He asks, earnestly.
“Yeah,” you respond almost instantaneously. He looks up at you now, and he finds that you’re staring at him.
“Okay,” he says.
You smile and go back to nursing your drink again. He continues to stare at you, and he sees a tinge of smudged makeup around your upper lip, but your hands are firm now as you take a sip of your drink. And he smiles, he thinks you look properly beautiful.

So yesterday (Dec. 14) was Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler's anniversary. They got married in 1780. It was also the anniversary of George Washington's death in 1799.
Washington died between 10 and 11 P.M. of a severe throat infection (though I will argue that the bloodletting his doctors did is what actually killed him) at his beloved plantation of Mount Vernon with his eternally devoted wife at his side. His final words were instructions to his secretary, Tobias Lear, that he was not to be buried immediately (he was terrified of being buried alive) and then he said "'Tis well," before his death.
Anyway, I wanted to make this post because I've been researching (like I said in my previous post) a lot lately and I fell down the Lafayette/Napoleon rabbit hole. (BTW, Napoleon was really good, I was not expecting it.) Anyway, I found out that they had a memorial service for Washington in France in February 1800 and everyone expected Lafayette (who if I'm not mistaken had his French citizenship taken away at this point, methinks, making him a man without a country) to give the eulogy, seeing as how, y'know... he knew the man and served under him??? Napoleon, asshole that he was, didn't invite him/allow him to attend. Poor Lafayette, who was always so loving and loyal to Washington, could not attend his funeral in Virginia, or his memorial in France. Though, during his tour of the United States in 1824, he visited Mount Vernon with his secretary and I think also Georges Washington de Lafayette and George Washington Parke Custis, who gifted him with a ring that contained locks of both General Washington and Lady Washington's hair and was engraved with the phrase "Pater Patriae" which means "Father of the Country." Lafayette visited the tomb where the Washingtons were buried(? entombed?) alone and came out with tears in his eyes. He then took the two Frenchmen by the hands, guided them inside where they knelt by the coffins and kissed it in respect. Also, Lafayette wrote Mrs. Washington after he found out about her husband's passing to give his condolences and that letter was one of the very few that Martha answered herself, instead of letting one of the secretaries doing it. She also sent him two pistols that Washington had left him in his will. They were British pistols taken from the enemy during the Revolutionary War.
Anyway, there's a handful of fun lil facts about Washington's death/his relationship with Lafayette.
