————
Jason knows very little about your past. Or at least, the bad parts of your past. You were always hesitant to share that part of your life with anyone, and Jason was never one to pry.
Even if he didn’t recognize the trigger, he recognizes what comes next.
That vacant, scared look on your face. The rapid, shallow rise and fall of your chest. He notices the way you’re almost shaking, the way your eyes dart around the room looking for an escape.
You lose more and more air with every breath. The manor is absolutely packed with guests for Bruce’s most recent gala, and having so many people in so little space is overwhelming. You dig your nails into your palms. I have to get out.
Jason is frozen across the room from you. He’s torn—stuck between running to you and wrapping you in his arms and never letting go, or letting you be and giving you the space you need to calm down. He knows if the roles were reversed, he’d want to be left alone. He’d go and hide in a comforting space and try to regain control of his thoughts. But you’re not him.
He blinks and you’re gone, tearing away from the main foyer and escaping into the safety of the house.
You collapse in the closet of a random room. The darkness accepts you into his arms, surrounding you like a blanket. You squeeze your eyes shut and contract all of your muscles, trying to force air back into your system.
Jason doesn’t realize he’s following you until the cold air of the grand entrance hits him. You’re completely out of his sight now, having disappeared into one of the many rooms of Wayne manor. He pinches the bridge of his nose—where could you possibly be?
He starts searching the rooms on the ground floor, careful not to be too loud and accidentally startle you. After none of the rooms on the ground floor turn up anything, he starts to climb the stairs. He only makes it two steps before he hears a sob that sounds a little too familiar.
He backs up, eyes locked on the closet that Bruce keeps winter coats in. It’s tucked just out of the way of any prying eyes, at the end of a hallway near Bruce’s study. It’s quiet, enclosed and of course, dark. The perfect spot to hide in.
“Y/n?” He keeps his voice soft and even, kneeling just outside of the closet.
You sniffle in response, strained gasps echoing off the walls of the closet. How did he find you? How did he know?
He slowly pulls open the door, giving you enough time to hide your face or protest if you need to. A sliver of light from the hallway breaks through the darkness of the closet and illuminates your face. Jason’s heart breaks at the sight.
Poor thing. All teary eyed and wet cheeked, shaking like a leaf at the bottom of an old closet. He shakes his head. This won’t do.
“Hey, hey,” he says, “it’s safe here. It’s just us. Just you and I.”
You hear his words but it’s hard to register anything in your panicked state. Your breathing stays erratic, your heart beats so hard you’re scared it will burst. You can see Jason through the black spots and tears, but just barely. He looks more like a broken mirror than a person right now, but it’s Jason.
“Are you okay if I touch you?”
As soon as you nod, Jason is pulling you into his lap and shutting the closet door to return you to darkness. Strong arms hold you close to his chest and his scent surrounds you.
“Close your eyes, okay? Focus on your breathing, focus on what you feel, not what you think.”
You try to follow his instructions, managing to relax enough to shut your eyes. You can feel the warmth radiating off of him, the steady bump of his heartbeat, his hands resting above your belly button. You can smell his cologne, the familiar scent filling your nostrils and reminding you that he’s really there.
Jason keeps himself sturdy. He keeps his breathing steady and his hands still. You need stability right now, and Jason is going to be the one to give it to you. He doesn’t care if he has to hold you for an hour, or even the entire night. All he cares about is you.
Your breathing starts to steady and the burning in your chest fades. You try not to push yourself—taking slow, gentle breaths.
“Feeling better?” He asks, and suddenly you’re painfully aware that you’re sitting in his lap, in his arms, in a dark closet.
“Y-yeah,” you say, “I think so.”
He nods. “Great to hear.”
Jason awkwardly adjusts so that he can stand, opening the closet door. He reaches a hand out to you. “How about we ditch this thing? We get rid of these stuffy clothes, take a ride on my bike and get some ice cream?”
Jason almost bursts at the genuine smile that fills your face. It’s like clouds parting to let the sun rays through—a reward after seeing you break down in his arms.
“That sounds great,” you accept his hand and let him tug you to your feet. “I’ll go get changed.”
Ten minutes later and Jason is waiting at your door, having traded his suit for jeans and a t-shirt. “Ready to go?”
He takes your hand in his and leads you downstairs, out of the backdoor and to the garage where he parked his motorcycle. He helps you do up your chin strap, calloused hands gently rubbing the sensitive skin of your neck.
You mount the back of the bike, your feet barely scraping the ground. Jason puts on his own helmet and climbs in front of you. He revs the bike, “you should hold on.”
You lean forwards awkwardly and wrap your arms loosely around his waist. Jason seems satisfied with this and takes off. As soon as the bike lurches into motion, your grip tightens around him. You swear you hear him laugh.
The cool night air feels nice on your once clammy skin, the familiar smell of the city surrounding you. Jason drives carefully, or at least, more carefully than he usually does. You can tell he’s making a great effort to keep you comfortable.
You relax into him, feeling the curves of the bike as you make your way into the city. The streets of Gotham fly by, amber streetlights casting the whole street in a soft glow.
You feel almost disoriented when he brings the bike to a stop in a parking stall next to the ice cream parlor. The sudden cease of motion leaves you feeling like you’re still moving, and you have to wait a minute to get your bearings.
Jason puts down the kickstand and climbs off of the bike, hanging his shiny black helmet from the handlebars. “Here,” he offers you a hand and helps you down.
Your knees shake slightly but you find your balance. You take off the helmet and set it on the seat of the bike where you just were.
“So, what’s your go-to flavor?”
You smile. Jason has never been one for small talk, and he’s definitely never been as gentle as he’s being now. You melt at the idea of him being extra careful with you.
“It’s so hard to decide, honestly,” you admit. “I usually get the same thing every time, but sometimes I want to switch it up, you know?”
He nods, “I’m usually a mint chocolate chip or rocky road guy myself, but I like to mix it up sometimes.”
You spend almost five minutes discussing ice cream flavors with Jason. It doesn’t help that this particular place boasts over 100 flavors, and all of them sound equally delicious. Finally, you manage to decide and step up to the counter to order.
You order your ice cream, but before you can pay, Jason steps up behind you and places his order with yours. You go to protest, but the man is already tapping his card.
“Thank you,” you say sheepishly.
“Hey, if I invite you out for ice cream, don’t expect to pay.”
You get your ice cream and settle down at one of the picnic benches in the parking lot. It’s a nice, warm night, and there’s not very many people around. Usually you’d be afraid to be out this late in Gotham but having Jason around just settles your nerves.
“Thank you for tonight, Jay. It—it really means a lot to me that you helped me.”
You swear his cheeks tinge red. He looks at you seriously, “anytime. Seriously, if you ever need me, no matter what, just call me, okay? I’ll be there for you in a heartbeat.”
His words almost have you tearing up again. Seeing Jason so soft, so kind and caring—it just makes your heart flutter. He reaches across the table and squeezes your hand reassuringly.
A peaceful silence falls over the table as you finish your ice cream. Jason never takes his hand away from yours, and you’re not quite sure you want him to. If you could live like this, with him, in this moment forever, you’re sure you’d never have another panic attack again.

RAAAAAAHHHH WOMEN!!! Furina Content for the hungry masses, apologies that it's not longer. I was very inspired by a particular post and speedran this at like 4 in the morning.
Finally. Women in the Genshin Content tag. Let's Go Lesbians
usual disclaimer; safe-for-work tickling content ahead, very cute, very fluffy - also very vague 4.2 spoilers? but you wouldn't get it without context so it should be okay for the uninitiated o7
Tumblr media
Being human comes with a lot of fun little quirks.
Furina loves being human.
Furina does not, however, quite enjoy the prideful appearance she's been forced to keep for so long – so it's very nice and refreshing to finally have more and more friends at her side to drop that guard around.
At least, it's certainly nicer for Clorinde to no longer be alone in suffering Furina's drama, because –
"Would y – eeEEeeh! Ahaha – help mehehe already…!"
Paimon shuffled awkwardly in the air, glancing towards the Champion Duellist.
"Should we, um, do something…?"
"No. Let it run its course… She'll be fine."
Lumine snorted softly, biting down her smile in an attempt to look as bemused as Clorinde when Paimon looked over haplessly. Before the three of them, taking advantage of their relative privacy and distance from society, was poor Lady Furina, her arms held above her head by Gentilhomme Usher – thus allowing Surintendante Chevalmarin and Mademoiselle Crabaletta to pinch and prod at her torso, sending her into the undignified fit of giggles she was in now.
( very necessary A/N; the names of furina's staff are needlessly complicated even for a french speaker. sweet jesus. )
"Ahaha – y-you – yohohou are cruel! How c-cohould you fff – ahaha! – forsahake me this way?!"
"Lady Furina has a habit of, er…. Well, this," Clorinde explained poorly, nodding her head towards the scene with a tired look; "I gave up on actually helping after the first dozen repeat offenses."
The traveling pair nodded, exchanging a mildly amused look between themselves as Paimon took over replying for them both.
"Don't worry, we get it… We've got a few friends who are very similar, ehe…!"
Lumine nodded as well, turning her gaze back to Furina's song and dance. From the way her legs shook, it seemed like she'd collapse if Usher released her arms; and though she was flushed in the face, she also seemed genuinely happy…
It made the traveler's fingers itch, and she hummed, glancing towards her fairy friend.
"Hey, Paimon – since we're just waiting, why don't you and Clorinde scout up ahead? I'll stay here to keep her safe if anything creeps up on us."
"But…"
Paimon started to object, but shut her jaw with an audible click when their gazes met, her eyes widening with sudden understanding. Offering a more nervous smile, Paimon nodded quickly, whipping back to Clorinde.
"... R-right! Come on, miss Clorinde!"
"Right. Shout if you need help."
Almost grateful for the out, Clorinde marched up the path, Paimon hovering just beside her as she went. Lumine watched until they disappeared through a few trees before approaching the giddy Furina, waving her arms to shoo away her staff members.
"Alright, that's enough…"
"... Haah, ahah… ah –!"
Abruptly, they disappeared with a burst of bubbles, and, as predicted, Furina collapsed entirely, opting to commit entirely to the fall and flop back onto the grass, her hat rolling away when she landed.
"Ahh, ow… haah, you could've been faster with the save, you know…"
"Oh, please, you could've gotten yourself out of it anytime," Lumine giggled, crouching beside the Chief Justice and savouring the flustered glare her comment got.
"Y-yes, well! Perhaps I was testing your friendship – looking to see how fast you would save me if I was in dire straits!"
"Oh, you're testing something, alright…"
The traveler shifted, somehow managing to straddle Furina where she lay before she had a chance to react – though it was less than graceful, with how their skirts overlapped. Furina stared up at Lumine with shock, stammering wordlessly while the blonde traveler smiled, a mischievous glimmer in her eye.
"I've got a question for you, Lady Furina – in operas, how much do you enjoy twist villains?"
"... Oh," Furina squeaked finally, her cheeks red – though her next words made Lumine soften the act a bit; "I – I, um… You're really…?"
"Yeah. Unless you don't want me to?"
"N-no! I mean – yes? I – mngh…"
The verbal stumbling made Lumine laugh, and Furina huffed petulantly, squirming in place with a thoroughly flustered expression.
"Just… Stop when I say so, okay?!"
"Promise. I won't push it."
Furina hesitated, gauging Lumine's sincerity before letting out a soft breath and nodding – only to tense when the traveler dug her fingers into her sides, wasting no time to profit off of the okay.
"Now, let's see how loud you can really sing…"
"AahhaaaAAH – Wait wait wahahait –!"
As Clorinde and Paimon rounded the bend again, they were greeted with Lumine helping a very breathless-looking Furina to her feet, slinging an arm around her shoulders to support the wobbly-legged damsel with an amused look to their companions.
"Unfortunately, Madameoiselle Crabaletta did a number on her… I think we might have to give up on the rest of this trip."
Clorinde sighed haplessly, shaking her head; "It's alright… It wouldn't be the first time. Come on, let's get back to the city…"
"... Haah, haah… S-sorry, everyone…"
Paimon giggled, collecting Furina's hat from the ground as they began their trek homeward and trying it on her own head, giving Lumine a knowing side-eye.
"It's okay! Paimon had fun anyway! What about you, Traveler?"
"Yeah – lots of fun. We should do this again soon."
Lumine grinned, drumming her fingers against Furina's side where they rested just to make her flinch and giggle, leaning into the traveler a little harder and ducking down to hide a giddy smile.
Furina loves being human – especially now that she has proper friends to be human with.

~~
♡ Thank you for reading this bit! Enjoy! ♡
>>----------------------------------------<<
Weeks had passed since the death of that horrible creature that appeared at the hot springs. Weeks have passed since your moments that were shared in the bathroom.
Weeks had gone by when you realized how you felt.
Those little flustered shudders you made when Sukuna passed you in the hallways. Or when you thought about his smile or the way his hands gently caressed your cheeks. Even those little split seconds where Sukuna's annoyance was ticked and he pinched your chin to make you look up at him.
Your heart fluttering every moment you spent around him.
And that morning didn't help. Seeing as you woke him up everyday after a bath, your mind simply drew a blank when you entered the Kings room and found him missing. Only to find he had been in his throne for the last hour, waiting.
..for you.
"Sire, you should be in bed!" You said, wrapping your body up in your night robes. "Why're you up so early?"
"I have a few questions for you, Y/n."
Heart skipped, watching his multiple arms flex. Although you should be paying attention, you found your mind distracted by the simple pulsing of veins that decorated the curse's hands and arms. Of course, your constant mental nagging forced you to focus on the King and not on those amazingly attractive biceps and hands.
Finding his hands and arms attractive was a bit of an understatement with how your dreams have been playing recently..~
"What are they?" You asked, feeling your tummy pool with heat.
"The questions are about your behavior these last few weeks. Months, even. I've noticed this.. change in you recently."
Oh Gods, he doesn't know, does he?!
"W-What kind?" Your voice was weak, knuckles turning white as you pinched your forearm. He couldn't possibly know, right?!
You had made sure that it wasn't obvious that something in your chest stirred for the king of curses. Keeping it to yourself and leaving the confusingly dirty thoughts of him locked away in the secrecy of your room. You always made sure that even the moments you spent alone together were always filled with the constant thumping of your own heart.
And even if Sukuna knew something, you could always deny it, right?!
As you took a breath, you finally let the words of Sukuna Ryomen fill your ears as you stood at the foot of the stairs.
"I've been wondering.. are you afraid of me?"
...What?
"Afraid of you?" You questioned, actually feeling confused for once in this temple you called home.
"Yes." Sukuna continued, flicking his wrist as he waved his hand around. "As you know, being as malevolent as I am, I tend to find comfort in knowing that others find me horrifying."
You gave a nod, clasping your hands behind your back as Sukuna stood from his old pile of bones and began walking down the tinkering staircase. Taking a step back to give him room, you watched as he continued descending the stairs as he spoke.
"But for some reason, seeing your behavior has me thinking about things differently. Sure, seeing your horrified expression when I mean real harm is adorable, but I don't wish any actual hate towards you despite our rocky start. As your master, I want you to be safe and well taken care of."
Taken aback by Sukuna's kindness, you swallow a thick glob of saliva that had collected in your throat before the curse got closer. The sudden closeness flustering you and making you look down at your feet, squeezing your hands slightly as a blush tinted your cheeks.
"However... your mannerisms and the way you address me have gotten quite.. annoying."
You bit your lip, cringing at the memories of you referring to him by the wrong name. And that cocky attitude you got while cleaning his now faintly scarred wounds was pure rudeness on your part.
You squirmed, your arms still behind your back as you opened your mouth to speak. Only for Sukuna to cut you off as he pinched your chin and lifted your gaze up to him. The look he was giving you made your chest flutter and your cheeks burn.
"From now on, call me Sukuna. It's better that way."
You could tell you got flustered; Sukuna was smirking with a slight hint of tease as he got closer and fanned a breath across your cheek. Once Sukuna finally let go, you raised a hand to your cheek quickly and felt your face burn bright red.
His teasing was going to end you one day...
Sukuna left the shrine, leaving you alone to deal with the fluttering that swarmed into your chest and tummy. Feeling the large cloud of butterflies grow as your mind replayed those last words over and over as you walked into the kitchen to prepare for lunch.
As Sukuna made his way down the path and further from the shrine, he couldn't help but smile at the soft embarrassment he graced you with.
Letting you use his name rather than 'Master' was going to be just as embarrassing for you as it was for him, little human.
Never had he really considered letting someone refer to him by his first name, so he decided that you of all people should be allowed. Knowing this heart wrenching and string pulling affection he had for you wasn't leaving him.
Which he didn't plan on letting them leave anytime soon..
~~
After you called Sukuna in for breakfast, you could tell that today was an off day for you. You all sat at the dining table and first things first, Sukuna mentioned that he was missing his chopsticks. That wasn't normal for you to forget to place his special chopsticks next to his drink.
But, it's because you got lost in thought thinking about Sukuna's fingers. How large his hands were, and what it must be like to hold them.
It wasn't until you saw that you hadn't timed the chicken properly and it ended up under cooked by a few moments. It wasn't pink, but you knew it wasn't good to eat.
You had been startled by Uraume out of a daydream of holding Sukuna as you fell asleep in his many arms.
It wasn't entirely your fault: Sukuna was part of the blame too!
He had decided to tease you all morning during the preparations of breakfast. Sukuna came into the kitchen and leaned over your shoulder, inspecting the way you chopped the celery for the peanut butter and raisins snack and let out huff. He continued this close contact with you through the day and even offered to take you to get more clothing.
You couldn't help these slip-ups. You were just falling deeper and deeper into this pit called love.
"Y/n, you're spacing off again," Sukuna's gruff voice called to you, pulling you out of yet another sweet romance in your mind. "Uraume was speaking about this afternoon's plans."
"I apologize, Uraume," You said, bowing your head and picking up some beef. "You can continue, I'll listen this time."
Uraume sighed, letting a small smile creep up onto their features before turning back to the King of Curses and returning to the conversation.
"I planned on taking us all to the Isie village for the festival they're holding. It's nothing too big or fancy, but they'll have games and food for us there. We could also get some clothes for us since they have sales during these random parties."
"That sounds.. fun, by human standards." Sukuna responded, his eyes turned over to the roasted pig that you had set up in the middle of the table.
He had been paying attention, but his growling stomach was lusting after the perfectly cooked animal.
"It sounds lovely, Uraume," You said, picking up Sukuna's obvious slack and sending a smile their way. "I'd like to buy some new clothes since the ones I own are becoming rags."
Uraume's slight blush made you giggle, only for them to aggressively toss a meatball they prepared over the table at you. Which you dodged with ease, though a false offended glare overtook your looks as you returned the gesture by tossing another one of the plated meatballs at them.
They caught it in their mouth, took a moment to realize what they've done, and laughed, chewing the ball in their mouth and chuckling.
Sukuna was oblivious to this small tithe as he was drooling over the cooked pig. Normally, it'd be wrong to go after the main dish in the shrine, but Sukuna looked so entranced in the meal that you cut off a slice from the belly and handed it to him.
He stared at the slab in your hand for a moment before taking it from you and practically swallowing it hole.
"Mm.." Sukuna's lips tugged into a small smile as he ingested the food, making you blush profusely and hide your face.
He was so cute, even if he was eating a bit of meat..
Sukuna never noticed your embarrassed state, but Uraume caught it perfectly. They knew so much about this secret love sparing between the both of you they were surprised that you haven't shared your feelings with him.
Of course, Uraume learned it recently as you had confessed while in the library late one night.
"He's just so beautiful, Uraume." You had said, a cheesy smile on your face as you zoned out for the fifth time that day. "He's got a gorgeous smile and he's so handsome.."
He's also a blood-thirsty killing machine.. Uraume thought to themselves, rolling their eyes. Of course, they had been waiting for you to mention these feelings, they didn't understand why it took so long.
Thus bringing them up to today. A small outing that Uraume had created to get you the two alone for once.
Uraume had created this idea by pure luck. There'd be a festival later on that day in Isie thankfully, and Uraume was going to make an excuse to go do the shopping alone: simple.
So, as you and Sukuna got prepared, Uraume mentioned that it'd be best to look dashing and stunning for the festival. It may just be a random party for these villagers, but it wasn't wrong to dress up a little.
They snickered when Sukuna waved them off with an eye roll, not knowing what he had in store for that night.
Uraume felt powerful shipping magic..
"Uraume? Can you help with this kimono?"
Entering your bedroom, Uraume came into contact with you almost immediately. Seeing your pale pink kimono with white flowers decorating the bottom and a velvet ribbon tying the middle easily. The monk didn't understand what you needed help with until they noticed that the ribbon wasn't tied firmly around your middle.
Uraume smiled and let out a sigh, walking into the room and turning you around to fix the problem for you.
They didn't question the origins of the kimono, but they did in fact think you looked wonderful in it.
"Are you almost done?"
Looking at the entrance, Sukuna stood there in his own attire: a black yukata with gold sewn around the rims of the sleeves and into the black ribbing tying it. Uraume didn't see this particular outfit often, but it was mostly used for special occasions (formerly used for attending special sacrifices and buffets after a raid).
"Oh, hello, Mast-.. Sukuna," You strained, craning your neck out a little to see what Sukuna hid behind the safety of the hallway wall.
Sukuna gave a quick nod, trying to not admire your beauty and focus on this outing to the Isie festival. He had to focus. He might kiss you otherwise if he wasn't..
"Uraume, I'm bringing enough money for you to buy clothing," Sukuna said, turning his attention to the monk. "I'll have some spare money for food and games, but you can hold onto the clothing money."
Uraume responded with a quick tease about trusting them so much, which Sukuna rolled his eyes at and threatened to slap them if they did so again. You giggled throughout this exchange, covering your lips quickly to shield the laughter that spilled from your lips.
You could tell that today was going to be filled with fun!
Uraume soon finished fixing the ribbon and gave your kimono a quick once over to check for anything else and gave a thumbs up.
"Looks good! Let's get going, shall we?"
You gave a smile and nod, forgetting to grab your hoodie and headed out with the monk down the hall you've walked hundreds of times before. The marbled walls and clean floors were something that's been home to you for a while, and you hoped that it stayed that way forever.
Even the statues of Sukuna carved out of stone weren't that scary anymore. You had even dared to hug one of the legs out of embarrassment after seeing Sukuna sleeping that morning. Though, walking by them and staring up at them was a past time for you, you still admired the art that they were.
Seeing Sukuna in the flesh every day though was more intense than any art piece to you.
He was beautiful. As if sculpted to look like a young God with muscles and looks to match the description. His strength, power, and ego were something that you had grown fond of despite the long hours of being terrified of them your first few weeks.
Now those ruby eyes that stared down at you were something that left you flustered at the end of the day. They used to cause nightmares for you, but now daydreams and heart palpitations. After you've been around so long, lived under his roof, and seen things others probably were jealous of you for, you couldn't help it.
And seeing his yukata and fluffy pink hair that afternoon was no exception.
Gorgeous was all you could think of to describe him.
When you reached the shrine's doors, you and Uraume pulled them open and stepped out onto the small area that was deemed as the porch. You eyes landed on your master quickly, as he was merely standing at the foot of the stairs with his eyes examining the woods behind him.
Once he heard the doors open and the scuttling of feet, Sukuna turned and looked up at you and your friend. You could swear that your heart seemed to stop the moment your eyes landed on his.
His outfit fit him perfectly, complimenting his large muscles and figure perfectly. The black yukata had a few minor details you never noticed before, such as a small dragon embedded into the shoulder blade area of the yukata.
Gorgeous really is the only word you could describe him with...
He turned his attention over to you and smiled softly, letting his eyes wander for once and admire you. That cute kimono complimented your body perfectly, scoping out the curves of your body and making it noticeable how chubby you were in some places.
The pink clothes covered you easily, but it was almost as if the parlor wanted Sukuna to be teased. The hoodie you normally wore wasn't an accessory either, so he saw your neck and bun that you fashioned your hair up in. Some tiger lilies were embedded into your hair, creating a small trail up to the bun and making the color of your eyes pop.
Sukuna though, loved it. The kimono fit you perfectly..
He's happy it fit too, otherwise he'd kill the person that made it.
"Hello, Sukuna." You smiled, letting your arms fold in front of your stomach and smiling at the King. "You look great today."
"You.. you look amazing, Y/n." Sukuna returned, warmly smiling just as Uraume was exiting the shrine. "Uraume, hello."
Uraume returned the greetings and took your arms in theirs to pull you down the shrine steps and next to Sukuna. He started to head off in the direction of the festival with you both trailing behind him as he cleaned the path free of low hanging branches.
Festival music and the sound of loud drums began to sound nearby after a few minutes of walking. Mingling with the forest sounds such as a running river and some owls calling out to others in the background. You were starting to feel excited, wondering what the festival games would be and what the food would taste like. But, your brain was more focused on Sukuna and his rather regal way of walking.
Normally, he'd always walk this way, but tonight seemed more mature and dignified in a sense. Not saying he wasn't normally, but it just felt fresh seeing Sukuna this way.
Relaxed. Carefree. Himself.
As the sounds of the festival grew stronger, so did the thundering drums and the growing aroma of fried food and snacks. The path was beginning to widen, growing around Sukuna as he led the way towards the lively town.
Once you saw the first few golden lanterns, you knew it was going to be fun for you.
The smells and colors made you feel hungry and excited all in one round. The festival had a gold, red, and white theme that you loved with a brand new burning passion. Somehow, it reminded you of tigers while looking around as your group started mingling with the crowd.
You could hear the drums beginning to stop playing as some other instruments began as you came to your first food stop.
It had these things called 'corn-dogs' that you and Sukuna were equally confused by. How could a hot dog, dipped in breading, be on a stick?
Looking up at Sukuna, who seemed more disgusted than anything, stared at the snack before taking a bite. There was a small notion that he might've liked the food he bit into, though the look on his face wasn't really pure happiness.
You swore you saw a smile though...
"Y/n, aren't you going to eat?"
Turning back to Uraume, who was eagerly biting into their own corn dog. They had a smile on their face and was chewing happily. You took a moment to look at the snack before biting into it and following Sukuna and Uraume over to one of the first festival games you guys ever played together.
That was before Uraume said they needed to shop last second.
"It'll be near the rugs shop that's a little ways past the food court we visited earlier," They said with a smile, bowing and heading in the other direction with a wave.
"Don't wait up on me!"
And with that, you and Sukuna were left alone to enjoy the festival games and food. You watched Uraume run off until you couldn't see them anymore before turning to Sukuna and seeing he was staring at their disappearing figure too.
"Sukuna, what should we do now?" You asked, holding your hands together as Sukuna continued to eat his snack.
"Hm? Oh, uh.." He started, looking around. "We could.. play games?"
Sukuna wasn't built for things like this..
You smile, grabbing one of Sukuna's additional hands and pulling him towards the game area. A flush of warmth met Sukuna's cheeks in those next few moments, eyes glued to your connected hands. He could tell that his feelings were getting the better of him the moment that everything around him began to blur and the noise of the music started dying down.
Your hand was so warm, and soft. Nothing like his at all. Sukuna was surprised that your hand was so different from his. His calloused hands and rough fingers compared to your delicate and gentle ones was so embarrassing for him.
But soon, you and Sukuna reached the game area and began playing. Uraume —who secretly had used shopping as an excuse to spy on you two— was watching not far away with a smile on their face.
You and Sukuna were oblivious to this, as you were both busy winning toy after toy and game after game. Sukuna's arms were soon filled with different toys like dragons, red pandas, and even a fox was in the litter with additional snacks and foods that Sukuna suggested would be best eaten somewhere more private.
There was another fireworks show going to start —your second one this year— and headed towards a hill Sukuna said had a better view of the sky and village.
Eventually, you and the King of Curses managed to make your way to the hill and sat down. Turns out he was right, you could see almost everything up there and even a bit of the festival's crowd. The grass there was nice and soft, and there was a small bundle of trees that grew towards the bottom.
"It's really nice up here!" You said after finishing your food and turning to flash Sukuna a smile. "It was a good idea to come up here to see the fireworks better!"
"Mhm.." He responded, chewing on a mochi ball he found at one of the food stalls.
Once the fireworks were booming in the sky, you decided to rest on the hill. Relaxing and laying back on the ground as you watched the light show in the sky. Sukuna didn't join you, as he continued to sit and look up at the stars and the bright colors that painted it in sparkles.
The trees around you begin to illuminate after them, the glow of the fireworks casting onto the leaves. It looked beautiful to watch them glow in different colors: pink, orange, yellow, blue. They were all pretty colors.
Even while you were laying down, you could tell Sukuna looked just as amazing as your surroundings.
His pink hair glowed like the leaves of the trees and his stoic face was mesmerizing. You couldn't help but start staring at him, watching him eat his snacks as he rested his cheek against his hand. A smile lifted your lips when he turned to you, though there was a pink dusting his cheeks when his eyes locked with yours.
Why were you staring at him? Was the question he was wanting to ask, though he felt that the atmosphere was too relaxing to just ask out of nowhere.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to stare!!" You laughed, making the cursed king blink a few times and blush more. "I couldn't help it, you looked really cool watching the fireworks."
Sukuna scoffed, looking forward to hide the rush of color that coated his hot cheeks. How in the world could you be so damn open when Sukuna could barely say a compliment without blushing up a storm?
He could hear your ruffling kimono as you sat up again, scooting yourself closer to him and looking up at the sky.
Gods, you were going to end him someday..
It was about time to go to sleep by the time the show ended, the sounds of crickets and things in the woods stirred to life. Sukuna stood rather quickly, gathering his trash and reaching a spare hand out for yours.
He'd be lying if he said that he didn't want to hold your hand.
"Come, we have to find a place to sleep," Sukuna said, letting your small hand grip onto his as he led you back down the hillside.
"I can't take us back to the shrine tonight, so we'll have to find an inn to stay at with Uraume. They usually book one per person, but I only brought enough money for two rooms."
You gave a nod, feeling warmth filling your cheeks as you began to wonder who was sleeping in the same room with who. Even as Sukuna found Uraume and headed towards an inn, you were still contemplating the idea as Sukuna lead you and Uraume inside a local inn and paid for the rooms.
Uraume took it upon themselves to taking a room alone...
..leaving you and Sukuna to share one.
The room that you had to share was large, with a single bed in the middle, since you couldn't get a two bed. And a slide-to-shut door that led to the outside hot springs that were there naturally.
"That's.. fine." Sukuna said, a strained tone to his voice as he made his way to one of the rooms. Uraume gave their goodbyes and goodnight as they left in the other direction for their room.
A smirk was hidden on their face as they turned and watched you and Sukuna disappear into the shared room. They began to wonder what you'd do in their.
Would you both talk? Kiss? Do dirty, unspeakable things?
Whatever they thought you'd do with him wasn't accomplished, as you placed a tatami mat on the floor (against Sukuna's wishes, weirdly enough) and tried to get some sleep.
Sleep though wouldn't come easily as you were tossing and turning all night, the dreams of that wedding with Sukuna getting more and more vivid and real. Even some details seemed to change, like the color of Sukuna's yukata or the height of the woman and her appearance until it looked weirdly like you.
She had the hair, face, and body. Almost everything was the same.
Well, except for the fact you looked older somehow.
As you were left awake in your tatami mat, you stared up at the ceiling until you heard the sounds of the doors leading outside opening and closing. If you weren't silent, you may never have heard it. You did though, as you sat up and watched a large shadow leave the paper-thin door.
Looking over, you realized that it was Sukuna leaving.
He wasn't in bed, but you couldn't understand why he wanted to leave. So, as you felt your master needed some help, you got up and joined him despite it being rather nippy outside. Outside wasn't all that bad though as you caught sight of Sukuna soon in the hot springs.
He was sitting in the springs with the shorts he wore to bed discarded on a rock ledge nearby. Feeling another wave of warmth on your cheeks and a flutter in your heart, you stepped out of the shadows until Sukuna's eyes came to rest on yours.
Obviously, he wasn't in the least embarrassed by your sudden appearance. Sukuna noticed that you tended to follow him around, like a little lost lamb.
"Evening," Was all he muttered before resting his head back on the towel he had found.
You jumped a little, though you stepped up to the springs and sat on the ledge. Resting your feet into the warm water.
"Evening, Sukuna."
A silence was shared as you both relaxed for a moment before Sukuna lifted his head again and motioned for you to enter the springs too.
"You can join me if you wish."
Quickly you declined though Sukuna wasn't one to be shot down easily. He made his way over to your resting figure and picked you up, making you squeal as he rested your feet further into the warm water and let you sit on some dry rocks.
"Undress," He said, tugging on the hem of your night gown. "You looked stressed, this will help."
Blinking back confusion, Sukuna rolled his eyes and began lifting your night gown. A wave of heat washed over your being as you embarrassingly agreed and he stopped. The smirk that twisted his lips made you mentally burst.
Sukuna returned to his seat and closed his eyes as you undressed, letting you get into the water and relax before he opened his eyes again to smile at you. You felt warm and relaxed like Sukuna said you would, and you'd be a liar if you didn't say that this helped a little.
"The festival was fun," You commented, rocking yourself from side to side as you looked over at the cursed being.
"Mhm, it was rather enjoyable," Sukuna replied, scratching his cheek with one of his fingernails and sighing. "Uraume ditching us wasn't meant to happen though. I hope they got clothing for you, at least."
You laughed at this, letting the conversation with Sukuna continue. On your end, it was like any normal talk with someone, but Sukuna found it rather interesting. Exciting, even.
Hearing your voice about something that interested you, even if it was for a few hours, sounded nice coming from you. Like the world wasn't going to fall apart if you told it not to, somehow.
As the conversation continued, Sukuna couldn't help but feel a black pit in his gut. A swelling guilt that sat right in his stomach as he stood and beckoned you over to join him. You obeyed, of course, and grabbed a bar of soap Sukuna said he was wanting to use. It was this feeling thing again; Sukuna's heart telling him to tell you now while he had the chance to.
Taking breath after breath, moment after moment, Sukuna couldn't do it.
And the tension between you two was easy to notice; a knife could cut through it, there was so much. It was practically deafening as Sukuna's hands began to guide themselves over your shoulders and back. Washing and created suds on your skin as his mind went blank and his eyes glued to your curves.
You didn't take much notice either, simply looking back up at the King of Curses and feeling your cheeks heat up a little at the glazed over look. Sukuna was laser focused on getting you cleaned, even daring to let a nail or two dig too close to your thighs and scrub at your skin roughly.
Making sure that you were clean.
"S-Sukuna, you're getting really close.." You mumbled out as the cursed male blinking and regained his thought process.
He had indeed gotten close —dangerously close, in fact— and was looming over you. The mouth on his stomach in fact licked its lips in a rather odd way, making Sukuna's sudden shock more intense.
Although the moment was tense, he couldn't pull away.
Sukuna wanted to get closer, closer than close. To hold and hug you. To let your small and fragile body be pressed against his in such a way that'd make the curse forget how to speak. It was so tempting to just press himself against you, to hold your waist in his large hands and just squeeze enough to make you squeak in surprise.
While his mind was elsewhere, you had somewhat turned with your arms covering your chest to stare up at him.
His sudden silence confused and worried you. Did you upset him? Maybe you shouldn't have said anything.
Now, fully facing him, you reach up a shaky hand and let it rest on Sukuna's forearm. The sudden touch made him jerk back a little, and the shock of surprise overtaking him was rather adorable in your opinion. Rather than removing your hand and shooting you a glare as you expected, Sukuna's eyes seemed to soften and a hand came up to cup your small face.
It was like that moment under the tree at home all over again..
"Y/n.." Sukuna's voice caught you off guard as your mind wandered to back then, blinking a few times as you looked up at him.
He looked so much softer in this moment, as if something in his mind had changed. His complexion showed raw emotions that you didn't know about, but the look that he was giving you was intense and made butterflies swirl around in your stomach.
You felt so small, yet so big in his gaze..
"I have to say something.." You could feel warmth pooling into your heart, a sudden beat being skipped as Sukuna started speaking.
"Honestly, I don't know when this started, but it's important I tell you. For me, and for you."
Why was your heart racing?
Sukuna's eyes seem to glow as he utters his words quietly. "I've been feeling a certain way about you for a while.."
You could hear your heart's beat getting louder and louder as the air around you thickened and became harder to breath. Feelings in your chest began to swell, as if something you've wanted to hear for months was beginning to be said.
Sukuna's small smile was enough to make you want to do things in those romance books you've been reading.
To kiss him..
There was a sudden tug as Sukuna pulled you closer, something you never knew you needed until then. With your hands placed on his tanned skin, you looked up at him with eyes that sent a wave of emotion through Sukuna's body that was new but welcomed.
As if by pure luck you suddenly understood. It was something you had hoped for for months.
Almost as soon as the thought left your brain, you felt your heart stop. Desperate to hear those words spill from his lips, to lay a claim over you. The urge to kiss Sukuna only swelling deeper and more powerful in your body, even your lips tingled with excitement.
Sukuna dipped his head closer, a smile on his face as his voice seemed to turn into honey and coating your heart in a warmth that made your heart spin. You didn’t even understand what it was, or why your lower regions seemed to react in a similar way to your heart..
"Y/n, I want you to be mine."

o1. With which one of your friends do you spend the most time? With which friend do you spend the least amount of time? Would you like to change this in any way? --
o2. What four states in the USA would you most like to visit? Which four countries would you most like to visit? Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, and New York. Sweden, Italy, UK, and Greece.
o3. If you have one, how often do you watch your favorite television show? How long has this show been your favorite? I have several favorite TV Shows and rewatch a lot of them.
o4. Would it bother you if your boyfriend hugged other females ( think hypothetically if you don't have one )? Why or why not? No. I mean, unless they were just going around hugging all the girls all the time or was flirty with them as well then nah I don’t care.
o5. If you had snow-days as a kid, how did you spend them? Do you like the snow, in general? It doesn’t snow here, but I wish it did. I’ve only experienced it less than a handful of times while at other places and enjoyed it. I’d love to experience it during Christmastime. I’m actually trying to convince my family to spend Christmas in a cabin this year somewhere where it snows.
o6. Do you know anyone who does hard drugs? Would you ever befriend someone that did? I do know people who do hard drugs and some were friends.
o7. When was the last time that you were afraid for your life? Did this incident change you in any way? I mean, it’s something I am worried about because of some health things.
o8. Do you enjoy taking pictures? Is it just for fun, or do you make an attempt at actual photography? I like taking pictures of certain things, especially if I’m on vacation or somewhere I feel is worthy of taking photos of. And of my doggo, of course. I don’t have an interest in pursuing photography or anything, though.
o9. Have you ever had low self-esteem? How is your self-esteem now? I’ve struggled with that since I was about 12 years old. I’d say it’s the worst it has ever been the past few years.
o1o. When you see someone sickly-thin, what is your first thought? I’m very likely considered to be “sickly-thin” myself. Admittedly, when I’ve seen someone really thin the thought has crossed my mind that maybe they were sick or were anorexic. I understand that isn’t always the case, though.
o11. Do hospitals make you nervous? Why or why not? Do you have any bad hospital experiences? Yes. They’re not the most pleasant place to be and can be very stressful or scary. Having to stay in one isn’t fun.
o12. What did you dress up as the last time you went Trick-or-Treating? Who went with you? I don’t remember.
o13. What is one thing you miss most from your childhood? What do you miss the least? Just being a kid, honestly. I could just play Barbies and watch cartoons all day, it was great. I don’t miss the many doctor appointments I had or the surgeries and long hospital stays.
o14. What would be the biggest challenge involved in raising a child at your age? >> It's not my age that would be the challenge... <<< Yeah for real, it’s the other shit I’m going through/dealing with. I’m trying to take care of myself and not doing very great at it as it is.
o15. If you happened to get pregnant before you were ready for children, how would you cope? Do you think your parents would support you and help you out? I don’t want to have children and I can’t get pregnant anyway, so there’s not an issue.
o16. Have you ever had unprotected sex? What would you tell a young teen thinking about having unprotected sex? No. Or sex at all. If they asked me for advice, I’d try to advise them not to have sex yet, but knowing they might still do so anyway I’d encourage them to be safe and inform them what could happen if they decide to go through with it.
o17. What are some gender double-standards anger you? Double standards suck.
o18. Other than the usual qualities ( honesty, respect, etc ), what are some attributes you want your BF/GF to possess? Patience and understanding are two very important ones for me.
o19. Do you still talk to the first person you ever dated? If not, would you want to? Why or why not? Nope.
o2o. Five years ago, what was the most important thing in your life? How about the most important person? Hmm. I was still going through a rough time then. The most important people in my life are always my family.
21. How would you describe your sexuality? Have you ever wondered whether or not you might be homo/bisexual? I’m straight and no.
o22. Do you think that homosexual couples should be able to raise or adopt children? Why or why not? Yes. If willing, wanting, and loving people want to take care of a child they should be able to regardless of their sexuality.
o23. Think of your worst fear. What would you do if you were confronted with it right now? I would be completely devastated and broken.
o24. If you were to become a vegetarian, what meat-product would you miss the most? Have you ever been or wanted to be a vegetarian? Wingstop’s boneless garlic parm and lemon pepper wings and also chicken tenders in general. No, I’ve never been a vegetarian.
o25. Do you think that someone's sexuality is something that they can control? No.
o26. What do you like most about your favorite animal? Doggos and giraffes are just awesome.
o27. What is your favorite way to eat your favorite food? How often do you eat your favorite food item? I have a few favorite foods that I eat all the time. I just go through a cycle of eating those same few foods. I’m so picky and particular about what I eat and how I eat it.
o28. What is something you are craving? Will this craving be satisfied? I’m currently needing coffee and something to eat, which I’ll have in a bit.
o29. What is the largest number of texts you have sent in a day? Do you often text this much? I have no idea. I don’t text much anymore.
o3o. Do you like the holiday season? Why or why not? What could be better about it? I love the holiday season, it’s my favorite time of year.

Author Notes
AnShuka~ AnShuka~ hehe~ ^w^
May you enjoy~ XD
“I’m jealous.”
Anju’s entirety twitches and her hold on the script went from relaxed to tense from two words Shuka utters. However, Anju was a professional, so she takes a deep but silent breath and appeared unaffected on the outside; a vast contrast from the inside of her mind.
Oh wow, Shuka really is jealous. She’s jealous. She’s jealous for me? Is she pouting? I want to take a look but my nervousness might show if I turn around now…
“Hm.” Anju hummed, glad that her voice did not give way to a squeak.
Yosh! Act nonchalant…Be cool, Inami… I can do this. Must not show weakness. At least not too soon to Shuka.
Shuka was pouting; her lips jutted up, her slime-like cheeks even more pronounced than usual and most importantly, her eyes never once strayed from the best friend she’s jealous for. “I usually don’t get jealous. But I am. Right now.”
I know… That’s why I’m not ruining it by telling you I like a jealous Shuka.
“Hmm…” Anju fought her growing grin to stay down with much difficulty; the script in her hands long forgotten as she stole sideward glances to Shuka beside her. Taking note of the body language Shuka shows as someone who’s jealous. She could not see all of Shuka’s face from her sitting position, but she loves the way Shuka was facing her – all of Shuka was facing her.
She’s looking my way…
“Anjuuuuu!” Shuka’s hands goes to Anju’s shoulders to shake the sitting girl; desiring the girl’s attention.
“Hm?” Anju could not conceal her true emotions anymore, she didn’t need a mirror to know. But she only gave Shuka a second’s look before turning back to the paper in her hands, whatever those papers were supposed to be.
Jealous Shuka is cute.
“Stop grinning and give me attentioooonnnn~~” Shuka shakes Anju’s shoulders more violently now, she could tell Anju wasn’t really studying the script and she really wants Anju to listen to her properly; that’s not too much to ask right?
Anju laughs as she drops the script beside the chair in the most careful way she can when 70% of her just wanted to free her hands and hold her jealous friend’s waist. “What are you jealous about?”
I can guess it’s my recent play you couldn’t go to…
“I’m not getting enough Anju.” Shuka was tempted to sit on Anju’s lap with how Anju kept grinning up at her; but she somehow managed to stop herself. Puffing her cheeks out instead, “Or all of Anju.”
All of me… Shuka wants all of me…
Anju bites her bottom lip to stop the wide smile that threatened to spread across her face; something she noticed that happens mostly when she’s with Shuka. “Elaborate.”
Anju knows, she knows why Shuka is jealous, but she could not help herself. Just as Shuka says – it isn’t every day or month or year that she’ll get to see Shuka jealous. For her.
Shuka pouts harder, her hands on Anju’s shoulder more a touch than a grip. Anju had half a mind to pinch and caress the shorter girl’s squishy cheeks. “I’m jealous that Nya got to kiss your cheek.”
Ah-
“And you won’t allow me to do it with you.” Shuka pouted more at that.
Ahh…That’s cos we still had songs to perform! There’s no way I’ll stop at a kiss on the cheek---
Anju’s cheeks flare at the memory of the low lighting corridor of the backstage, Shuka’s eyes on her and asking for a chance to peck her cheeks as Ainya did. Anju remembers clearly how she wanted one elsewhere instead of just the cheek so she was quick to reply a no. Recalling it now made Anju want to put some distance between her and her illegally cute friend, so she’s relieved that Shuka does not notice her red face and rambles on.
“And I’m jealous of Suwawa for being able to go to your play when I couldn’t! That’s so unfairrrr. I’m Anju’s Number 1 Fan!!”
I know you are.
Anju chuckles; willing her blush down while thinking back to Suwawa saying hi to her after the play, confidently telling her that Shuka’s going to be so jealous of her. Anju didn’t quite believe it then, but now…now she sees a pouting, upset, jealous Shuka in front of her. Anju grins again.
I should thank Suwawa later.
“Annnnnn..!” The younger girl obviously did not fancy Anju’s teasing grins.
“What is it, Shuka?” Anju’s grin was now a cheeky smile.
“Ahh, you’re so mean!” Shuka huffs and throws her hands up in the air.
Aww, I liked your hand on my shoulders.
Anju’s eyes followed Shuka’s hands before focusing on Shuka’s adorably pouting face again. “Now you know how I feel, huh?”
It’s always been I who’s jealous for you. This is payback.
“Huh? What do you-”
“King hugging you. JimoAi. YouRiko.” Anju counts off her fingers at each reason of her jealousy, observing Shuka’s reaction which was a variant of Shuka pouts, the bottom part of the girl’s cheeks puffed and her hands clenched and shaking as though she’s riding a horse. Weird but cute.
“That was…I explained myself already. Kanako likes to mess around. JimoAi is just us being crazy. And YouRiko is voted by the fans, not me!”
Anju’s smile never waned. She already accepted Shuka’s explanation before this, and throwing in YouRiko was for fun; she didn’t mind the franchise’s pairings, anything for Love Live! Sunshine to be loved by the fans. But since she already started the ball rolling, might as well push Shuka’s buttons a little more. “You should push for ChikaYou more then.”
“I am.” Shuka shakes her head, her subconscious frustration at being unable to get Anju talking to her about something not about jealousy leaking. “I can’t be any more obvious.”
About your love for me? Perhaps.
“Hmmm…” Anju hums thoughtfully.
Sometimes I wonder if I want you to keep being cute and close around me or if I should ask you to keep some distance for when we are on stage…
“Anju isn’t pushing hard enough too.” Shuka tries to get Anju talking more instead of her one-sided defending.
Oh?
Anju stands; loving the way Shuka’s eyes were on her. Anju closes the distance between Shuka and her; loving the way she’s taller which makes Shuka appear to be her prey and herself the predator in this scene. “I prefer privacy.”
Shuka lowers her head; flustered. “I know that…”
Cute.
“I just want Anju to…just want Anju…” Shuka mumbles.
Cute.
Anju places her hands on Shuka’s waist; where she loves it and smiles gently. “Not going anywhere, Shuka. Come ‘ere.”
Anju steps closer and hugs Shuka tightly; the smaller girl relaxing against Anju’s shoulders.
Saitou Shuka is cute. Super cute.
“It’s weird being jealous.” Shuka mumbles against Anju’s shoulder.
Anju’s body vibrated in a short chuckle. “I think it’s normal to be jealous.”
And you’re still cute when jealous. You should be jealous more…for me, of course.
“Mm… Just cos I don’t get jealous much does not mean I don’t love you, Anju.” Shuka moves her head, rubbing her cheeks on Anju’s shoulder for a period before pulling away to properly look into Anju’s eyes; wanting to convey her seriousness.
Anju smiles; she finds herself doing that a lot when with Shuka – genuine and natural and comfortable. “I know that.”
I love you too, Shuka.
Author Notes
Heyyyyyyy~ XD
I wanted to write this from the moment I watched the niconama which somewhat addressed the case of Ainya-ojisan pecking our dear Anju’s cheek during the live. hahas. XD Shuka jealousy is so apparent. Gosh! *w*
So~ I finally did. XD
I focused more on Anju loving Shuka’s jealousy but I wanted to have Shuka finding out why Anju didn’t let her kiss her (on the cheek) too. :P maybe another story. XD hehe~
And yes, Suwawa totally went to Anju’s play on purpose. Helping invoke more jealousy in Shuka for this to happen. XD hahas.
Anyways~ I hope y’all enjoyed the read! :’D
Leave me a comment if you like! ^w^ Any other AnShuka moments~? Or headcanons~? ;D Anything makes me happy~ :D
See you next story! :D Yousoro~ o7
P.S. Oh my gosh, I just realized I didn’t add a kiss here. OwO! –nervous chuckle and slowly backs away- M-Maybe next story!

Dec 19 Odothon Part 8 - DS9 S7E17 S7E18 S7E19 S7E20 S7E21 S7E22 S7E23 S7E24 S7E25
At last, the marathon that Soundwave has been showing Prowl is over. The star of their viewings, an unpopular law enforcement officer who’s been grappling with the discoveries that his home planet is 1) full of murderous conquerors bent on galactic domination, and 2) about to die off, has decided what to do about his ailing, awful species: cure them completely, and go home to try to teach them to be better people.
Prowl’s furious.
It doesn’t work like that. It’s not that easy. It’s a waste of time and a waste of effort and it just allows a rusty tumor that’s slowly corroding the galaxy to get stronger. One person can’t possibly hope to change a culture like that. It isn’t possible. People don’t get nice little happy endings like that.
... But. But. Now, he’s thinking about it.
ItsyBitsySpyers 5:09 pm *He's going to beat Prowl to it today. He's going to ping first. Rapidfire string of five.* FakeProwl 5:09 pm *He arrives between the third and fourth.* FakeProwl 5:10 pm Hold on, I wasn't actually upstairs yet. *He just kind of stopped walking in the middle of the doorway to turn on his avatar. He goes idle a moment.* ItsyBitsySpyers 5:11 pm *Soundwave shakes his helm in amusement and parks himself on the couch, cubes nearby.* FakeProwl 5:12 pm *Right! Optics bright again and claims his seat.* Ready. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:13 pm [[Good. There is one he thinks could be important, but we must finish this story today, so he will let you go back to it in your own time. There is also one to summarize.]]
[[Section 31 - the Federation's hidden spy organization - returns and demands Bashir gather data on key Romulan figures during a military and medical conference, intending to control who rises to power to preserve Federation interests. Sisko asks Bashir to agree, hoping to publicly expose them. Unfortunately, Bashir's work plays directly into their hands.]] FakeProwl 5:14 pm Mhm? ItsyBitsySpyers 5:15 pm [[Yes. They get their mole elected while doing what the humans call "throwing someone under the bus" to another senator who was already interested in helping.]]
[[And we begin.]] FakeProwl 5:18 pm {{S7E17 Penumbra: Part 1}}
... His mother is related to the wormhole aliens? ItsyBitsySpyers 5:19 pm [[Yes.]] FakeProwl 5:19 pm Hm. That explains why they like him so much. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:20 pm [[And why they expect so much of him.]]
[[He will be cutting out scenes in the next few tapes. They are somewhat important, but not greatly. The newest Dax host secretly leaves to rescue Worf, who is missing and stranded. They will be captured by the Breen aliens after she finds him.]] FakeProwl 5:24 pm ... About the Docks alien. I've never gotten a clear explanation. It's a parasite that lives in other people and passes its memory down across its hosts, correct? FakeProwl 5:26 pm *That was an extremely subtle way to propose. Prowl approves. Excellent job.* *I mean, he made it explicit after that. But if he'd left it at "I want it to be /our/ house" it would have been the most understated proposal Prowl's ever seen.* ItsyBitsySpyers 5:27 pm [[It is a symbiont, not a parasite, but yes. The host species and the worm species willingly work together. Those interested in becoming a host train hard and are well-screened.]] FakeProwl 5:27 pm ... People /volunteer/ to have someone else move into their body? I suppose someone has to enjoy it. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:28 pm [[The hosts are not mentally destroyed. They benefit from years upon years of experience, often retaining past skills and memories.]] FakeProwl 5:30 pm Roommates are hell. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:31 pm [[They can be.]] *This puffing is Soundwave chuckling to himself.* ItsyBitsySpyers 5:32 pm [[Some more than others.]] FakeProwl 5:32 pm *Sideways glance at Soundwave* Do /you/ have any? ItsyBitsySpyers 5:33 pm [[Not the kind you've been saddled with. Not the kind the Trill have. But he lives with seven others, and even without them around there is almost always a stream of other voices passing through his head.]] FakeProwl 5:34 pm Visitors. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:35 pm [[Of the longest-term variety.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 5:37 pm [[But, as he said. Some more than others. He knows yours falls under "more".]] FakeProwl 5:38 pm ... If the wormhole aliens weren't going to let him get married, it would have been nice of them to let him know before he proposed. {{S7E18 Til Death Do Us Part: Part 2}} ItsyBitsySpyers 5:39 pm ((WHOOP i forgot you were doing that. i'll catch the rest)) FakeProwl 5:39 pm ((o7)) ItsyBitsySpyers 5:39 pm [[It would have been. That is the problem with beings existing in non-linear time, he supposes.]] FakeProwl 5:40 pm If they're in non-linear time then couldn't they have seen the proposal coming and said something first? ItsyBitsySpyers 5:41 pm [[You'd think so.]] FakeProwl 5:41 pm *Ah, Prowl finally gets to see this Kai Winn he keeps being told about.* ItsyBitsySpyers 5:42 pm ((say hi to Nurse Ratched btw)) ItsyBitsySpyers 5:44 pm [[During these cuts, the Breen aliens torture Worf and Dax for information.]] FakeProwl 5:44 pm Very rude. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:45 pm [[Understatement.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 5:49 pm [[He does not understand why Sisko did not tell her right away. She is clearly excited about becoming his companion. Her hopes will have been built.]] FakeProwl 5:51 pm Fear of her pain when she's told. Short-sighted, yes, but still daunting. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:51 pm [[But waiting created more.]] FakeProwl 5:52 pm ... Were the prophets telling her that she needs to be guided by /Docket/? Why in the world...? ItsyBitsySpyers 5:53 pm [[All in time.]] FakeProwl 5:54 pm I'm hoping it's to screw her over. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:55 pm [[You dislike her.]] FakeProwl 5:55 pm You haven't talked her up. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:57 pm [[She does not deserve to be talked up.]] *Soundwave starts to lean toward Prowl, waiting to see if he'll be allowed to complete it.* [[And he is not complaining. He dislikes her too. He's just used to too many excusing all who bear religious power.]] FakeProwl 6:00 pm You're speaking to a mech who's made a career out of arguing with Primes, and who recently decided to cut out the middle man and argue directly with Primus. FakeProwl 6:02 pm ... Docket must be fuming on the inside. He's putting up a good act of gratitude. ItsyBitsySpyers 6:02 pm [[That is true.]] *Looks like he's not. He'll just prop himself up to stay in that position so he doesn't tip over or hurt himself trying to stay unsupported.* [[And most impressive of you.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 6:04 pm [[Dukat is indeed a skilled actor. And she is too naive for the level of her ambitions.]] FakeProwl 6:05 pm *It isn't until Soundwave props himself up that Prowl realizes he was leaning toward him. Oh. Oops. Slides over against Soundwave.* ItsyBitsySpyers 6:06 pm *Oh? Changed his mind? No more questions from him; he'll settle up and rest against Prowl in turn.*
[[She should, at the very least, be looking into his history.]] [[If for no other reason than most religions he knows of demand documentation for the miracles they lay claim to causing, so that they may wave it in the faces of those who disbelieve.]] [[Look at these fantastic events happening on Bajor, she could say. Bajor thrives under her spiritual leadership. And so on.]] *Ah, they're defying the Prophets and becoming spouses anyway. Charming. He'll be quiet now.* FakeProwl 6:09 pm Based on the previous things you've said about her—all her political machinations and so on—it seems to me as though that /would/ be the sort of thing she'd do. FakeProwl 6:11 pm So it's curious that she isn't. Is she that confident in the wormhole aliens' guidance? Is she... twitterpated by Dukat? ItsyBitsySpyers 6:13 pm *Where was he?*
[[She is twitterpated, yes. And always eager to believe herself in the right. Here is "proof".]] ItsyBitsySpyers 6:15 pm [[Her ego overrides her common sense.]]
{{S7E19 Strange Bedfellows: Part 3}} ItsyBitsySpyers 6:29 pm [[NOW she asks.]] FakeProwl 6:31 pm Aha. ItsyBitsySpyers 6:32 pm [[You begin to see.]] FakeProwl 6:35 pm Why does she still trust him in her presence even after finding out that the "prophets" that led her to him were false? ItsyBitsySpyers 6:36 pm [[Refusal to admit she was wrong? Her state of infatuation? Believing he did not know either? He cannot say.]] FakeProwl 6:41 pm ... Is she repenting? ItsyBitsySpyers 6:41 pm [[Trying.]] FakeProwl 6:41 pm Impressive. FakeProwl 6:42 pm ... Well, it was nice while it lasted. ItsyBitsySpyers 6:42 pm [[All ten seconds of it.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 6:47 pm ((solbor is 5000% Done)) FakeProwl 6:50 pm ... You know, if all it would have taken for her to realize she was wrong and repent is a visit or two from the prophets, just a chat every once in a while... Of course, I'm not saying it's /their/ fault if she goes completely evil. But, they could have done something about the situation. If they don't want to deal with her, they could have at least given a vision to a bunch of /other/ Bajorans telling them not to listen to this Winn Adami. If they're going to set themselves up as gods, for goodness sake, they could at least attempt to do the job properly. ItsyBitsySpyers 6:54 pm {{S7E20: The Changing Face of Evil}}
[[Who is to say they have not? She lost her other grab for political power. She herself states that they have never spoken to her - odd, for someone who leads the entire spiritual side of their planet. Kira has been warning her for the last seven years, and told her the truth now.]]
[[That said, he does agree that they could have done more. Clearly, she is too far gone for subtle messages.]] FakeProwl 6:54 pm ... Anyway. *Looks at Soundwave.* Where's Odo during all this? ItsyBitsySpyers 6:56 pm [[Odo is dealing with station life and will soon be brought into things as a larger player. It is best we see all these dominoes being placed so you understand his role in their tipping over.]]
[[And now he must answer a quick call - he will be back in a moment; Ravage has something to ask him.]] FakeProwl 6:57 pm *A nod.* All right. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:15 pm [[We're clear.]] FakeProwl 7:17 pm I can't begin to say how disinterested I am in this love triangle. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:20 pm [[You don't need to say. He is disinterested in it as well.]] *He was all too happy to cut most of it out.* FakeProwl 7:26 pm ((why do dukat's shoulders go on forever)) ((I thought it was just his gul suit but he's still got them)) ItsyBitsySpyers 7:27 pm ((marc alaimo just has broad shoulders and long neck irl heh)) FakeProwl 7:36 pm *There he was. For thirty seconds. Odo. It was nice.* ItsyBitsySpyers 7:37 pm *There will be more than thirty seconds of Odo as of next episode, Prowl. Patience will be rewarded.* FakeProwl 7:38 pm ... Docket and Kai Winn make me appreciate Starscream a little more. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:38 pm [[...Those are eleven words in an order he never thought he would hear them.]] FakeProwl 7:38 pm He's selfish, power-hungry, narcissistic, and cares nothing for the people under his control... but he's /self-aware/ of it. FakeProwl 7:40 pm You won't catch him explaining how thinking he's inherently superior to all the people around him makes him a good guy. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:41 pm [[Being self-aware of it does make it harder to interfere with his actions, but that has its upsides as well. He's generally not THIS]] *point at Kai Winn* [[easy for others to control.]] FakeProwl 7:42 pm I was thinking that it's less annoying to have to watch. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:42 pm [[Starscream's power lust?]] FakeProwl 7:43 pm THEY have themselves convinced they're doing the right thing. That makes them far more frustrating to watch. FakeProwl 7:48 pm If Starscream decided to massacre a planet, he'd at least be honest about his motives. If you tried to argue with him about how he's not doing this for whatever greater good may exist in his mind, you don't have to argue him out of that belief first before you can move on with the conversation. He'd shrug and says "So what?" FakeProwl 7:50 pm ... So why did it light up now? Does the book only reveal its contents to somebody who doesn't want them? Or maybe it requires a sacrifice. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:50 pm [[It does waste far less time. We may be a long-lived species, but even we have so much patience to spare.]]
[[The book lights up because it is the blood of the people the pah-wraiths would destroy.]] [[Proof that the would-be reader is ready to destroy Bajorans because they have already done so.]] FakeProwl 7:51 pm Sacrifice, then. Teaching her oppressors how to fight against oppressors. (("I need to borrow, a cup, of goo. I'll give it back." omg.)) FakeProwl 8:03 pm How easily she excuses the genocide of her own people, when she's the one committing it. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:06 pm [[He can't imagine Kira enjoys the idea of teaching them. But the alternative is... unpleasant. And dangerous for the rest of the galaxy, including her home.]] FakeProwl 8:07 pm Indeed. There's no practical alternative. On the bright side, the Cardassians won't enjoy it either, and then they'll be indebted to her. She seems unlikely to be the kind of person to cash in on that debt, but she and they will all know she has it. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:08 pm [[If she does not wish to cash in on it, she can always hand it off to her government.]] [[...Or she can simply enjoy sitting on it. It can be a pleasant feeling.]] FakeProwl 8:09 pm *Sits forward. Odo has an STD. This is unacceptable.* FakeProwl 8:15 pm ... Is Martok the one that was a changeling replaced? ItsyBitsySpyers 8:16 pm [[Yes. The true Martok was discovered in that internment camp, escaped, and returned to the Empire. He has fought valiantly since.]] FakeProwl 8:19 pm ... He's... not wrong. Losing one ally in order to allow their enemy to all die off... ItsyBitsySpyers 8:21 pm [[An important ally, who has an increased understanding of the Founders' mindset and is unlikely to let himself be trapped by it again, who could potentially gather more information and protect whatever ship he is placed on because of his species.]] [[And has an *incredibly* valuable ability for a resistance member.]] FakeProwl 8:22 pm The advantage he offers won't be necessary if the Founders are all dead. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:23 pm [[He does not need to die for them to do it.]] FakeProwl 8:24 pm No. He doesn't /need/ to. But if he's saved and the cure that's used to save him is leaked to the enemy... FakeProwl 8:27 pm He's already proven vulnerable to other Founders. He might voluntarily go out of his way to protect his home world. And changelings are already known to have infiltrated Starfleet. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:30 pm [[He broke from the conditioning he was being brought under.]] *Thoughtful nibbling.* [[You have a point that someone hiding in Starfleet could take it from him... but then why not imitate the people in charge of deciding whether or not Bashir gets the cure and freely hand the medical records over?]] [[And they are not doing this.]] FakeProwl 8:31 pm Maybe they simply haven't had the chance. Maybe they haven't been able to replace anyone high-ranked enough to get their hands on Odo's file. Maybe they think that if their doctors in the Dominion can't find a cure, Starfleet can't; but if they ever discover they underestimated Starfleet and they HAVE found a cure, they'll swoop in to take it. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:33 pm *Passing half-formed thought that can be interpreted as sneering at Gowron's idiocy.* FakeProwl 8:33 pm ... Primus below, save me from bad strategists. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:34 pm [[He hopes you mean the Klingon and not his mulling over points with you.]] FakeProwl 8:34 pm I definitely mean the Klingon. FakeProwl 8:35 pm And before that, the Cardassians. And I'm throwing in Docket and Kai Winn too... ItsyBitsySpyers 8:36 pm [[Good. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:43 pm *Silent for a few seconds, debating whether or not it's his place to say what came to mind just now.*
*In the end, he figures it's history anyone can look up.*
[[...So has your alternate. Fragmented records suggest that they were forced to close a bridge on one of their - you would call them batchmates, he thinks? Forged in the same group at the same time and made the Underworld run to the surface together.]] [[Close for much of their lives.]] FakeProwl 8:46 pm Ah. If they were born instead of built, "from the same hot spot" or, more poetically, "forgemates." ItsyBitsySpyers 8:47 pm [[Thank you. He will make the correction. But yes - forgemates, then.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 8:49 pm [[Shrewd.]] FakeProwl 8:49 pm And also exactly what Kira predicted. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:51 pm [[The sooner they shed the uncooperative one the better.]] FakeProwl 8:55 pm Check out that projecting he's got going on. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:56 pm [[He could play it on a screen from a thousand feet away.]] FakeProwl 8:56 pm *Huff.* ItsyBitsySpyers 8:56 pm *Pleased.* [[Garak did warn him.]] FakeProwl 8:57 pm If Garak's so concerned that Russet is going to kill Kira, why is he urging Kira to kill him? That will undermine her authority in front of all the other Cardassians. Garak should kill Russet himself. ItsyBitsySpyers 9:08 pm [[Odo's protest reminds him of your simulations.]] FakeProwl 9:09 pm *wry smile.* ItsyBitsySpyers 9:10 pm *...Not sure that's a good smile. ItsyBitsySpyers 9:11 pm [[That's hardly an "only", given their situation.]] [[Imagine all they could do...]] FakeProwl 9:12 pm True. But it means his skills at imitating other people are still limited. ItsyBitsySpyers 9:13 pm [[Hopefully O'Brien and Bashir will buy him time to learn.]] *Soundwave leans forward a little bit.* FakeProwl 9:14 pm Hopefully. Maybe. But he seemed pretty invested in the status quo. FakeProwl 9:22 pm ... He's hideous. *That's Prowl expressing concern.* ItsyBitsySpyers 9:24 pm [[Mm. It is a possibility. Still. They never stop feeling like an icicle through the spark.* ItsyBitsySpyers 10:39 pm *Soundwave glances at Prowl. Is he all right, there? Acknowledgment of her failure. A reminder of the traitor Vorta's story would not hurt.]] FakeProwl 11:10 pm ... He has weapons he didn't before. FakeProwl 11:11 pm ... And that's enough? ItsyBitsySpyers 11:11 pm [[And despite all they have done to him, he offered to cure his people. That is... something powerful. Especially to them.]] FakeProwl 11:12 pm That can't be enough. They've sent hundreds—maybe thousands—maybe /millions/ of changelings out into the galaxy to live among solids, all of whom have come back to report their findings and contributed their knowledge to the—the hivemind— And somehow he's the only one who's come back with a positive impression? The only one whose positive impression was strong enough to override the consensus she learned from the hivemind? It's, it's—irrational. ((i bet THEIR alamo in the future has a cool plaza with a bunch of trees in front of it.)) ItsyBitsySpyers 11:15 pm [[He was the first to return. Ahead of schedule, by her own words.]]
[[In the episode we skipped, he finally found another of the Hundred. That one disliked humanoids and preferred to avoid them, but they did not go to join the Dominion.]] ((lmao we can hope)) FakeProwl 11:16 pm ... So he's the only changeling to ever get a positive impression of solids? I find that— I can't believe that. Surely others have had positive opinions, and their positive opinions were oppressed by the majority. His can't be different. ... His /shouldn't/ be different. ItsyBitsySpyers 11:18 pm [[No. The one he found had positive enough impressions to entertain relationships with them for a while. And to avoid joining the war, as he said.]]
[[And who is to say there were not those who once held or now hold positive opinions in the Great Link? If he returns, he will be able to help them find their voice.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 11:19 pm [[He is clearly strong enough now to teach those who don't.]] FakeProwl 11:19 pm He taught one. Who was desperate and dying. ItsyBitsySpyers 11:22 pm *Soundwave shudders slightly. Possession by such spirits - ugh.*
[[The others are desperate and dying. The others are as timeless as him. He has a long opportunity to try.]]
[[And even if he fails - at least he'll have made the effort to teach and protect them, and others around the galaxy.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 11:24 pm [[It is devotion to the safety of others. It is the rehabilitation of criminals. How is that wrong for him to try?]] FakeProwl 11:24 pm ... If he fails, then /they/ persuade /him./ And he's added another body to their army. One with intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the Federation. ItsyBitsySpyers 11:27 pm [[Their army is broken. Others will hear of this - and those who have already survived and won will not accept more wars.]] FakeProwl 11:29 pm If he tries, then he /gives up/ on trying /other/ things that—that might actually work. That might actually succeed in protecting people! They still have an army that can be and IS CURRENTLY a threat to the galaxy. Making an effort to /contain/ it—or better, just letting its leaders die—has a far higher probability of making a difference than /saving/ them and trying to talk sense into them. He's just /one person/! What can a /single/ person do to—to change the minds, of... of an entire... ItsyBitsySpyers 11:33 pm [[Why must he be all things? Why can't he try to be this while others conduct negotiations? While others assist worlds that need help breaking free of their former oppressors and rebuilding?]]
[[And one person can do much. Worf stood before Gowron. Damar inspired Cardassia's rebellion. He does not seize all the credit for Megatron's defeat, but his turning away from Megatron did help change things.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 11:34 pm [[If nothing else - one Cardassian allowed them to seize the Jem'Hadar ship. One Cardassian saved them when they were to be executed.]] [[One Bajoran taught them how to run a resistance.]] FakeProwl 11:37 pm He doesn't /need/ to be all things. But there's going to be /one/ thing, /somewhere,/ where he will make a greater positive difference than he will anywhere else. ItsyBitsySpyers 11:38 pm [[This is what he knows how to do. This is what he /wants/ to do, and has aspired to do well. This could be that thing. It does not need to be destructive.]] FakeProwl 11:38 pm And he is—is derelict in his duties if he turns away from that position to pursue one where he's got a /tiny/ chance of talking a pack of genocidal warlords into making peace! FakeProwl 11:40 pm SO WHAT IF IT'S WHAT HE WANTS TO DO?! He's pursuing the lesser good! What he WANTS is worth nothing compared to what he OUGHT to be doing! ItsyBitsySpyers 11:41 pm [[Who BETTER to do it? The humanoids cannot link, and the changelings still have some fear of them. The Founder will be punished for her war. No other Changelings have returned, and judging by the Founder's claims, it is unlikely they will for centuries.]] FakeProwl 11:41 pm Then maybe it shouldn't be done! Maybe he should have left them to die! No warlords, no threat! He helps them, and there's a tiny chance they improve compared to a MASSIVE chance they pick up right where they left off! He lets them die, and it's guaranteed they hurt no one again. ItsyBitsySpyers 11:47 pm [[And the Earth? The one that experienced a war so terrible it nearly destroyed the planet and everyone on it, yet survived to become a paradise?]]
[[Why do you deny the existence of hope? How can anyone claim the right to destroy that many people? To do that to their own species without proving themselves a part of everything they claim the others are - a part that doesn't know how to do anything /except/ murder?]] [[He said it himself. He is /not/ a god. He does not have that right or that power.]] FakeProwl 11:50 pm Hope isn't statistically probable, that's what makes it hope! If it was the probability you wouldn't need to hope for it! You put all your effort into pursuing a one percent hope of reform and you leave a ninety-nine percent chance they'll pick up their same old scrap! FakeProwl 11:51 pm He may not have that right but he /does/ have that power—and sometimes you have to do things you don't have the right to do. And what does it matter if he proves himself just as bad as the rest of them, as long as he becomes the only person left who would do that? That's the /point/ of a necessary evil—it's necessary but /still evil./ Yesterday ItsyBitsySpyers 11:59 pm [[It does not need to be all the effort! Odo does not need to be all things, and not everyone can have the same role! There are still many others who can assist and prepare in case the ninety-nine percent comes true. Kira stood against him when he fell; she would do it again.]]
[[He could not live with himself if he went against his nature and killed them all, and that would be a waste of him as well.]] *Vents. He thought this would help, but... it's as if Prowl is doubling down instead.* [[In any case, he doesn't think you'd have respected Odo for what he'd become if he did. Not in the long run.]] FakeProwl 12:05 am ... Not all /necessary/ things are worthy of respect. They're not done for—for respect, or to demonstrate one's moral high ground. They're done because they... The alternatives... *For a moment, he glowers at the floor, silent.* ItsyBitsySpyers 12:07 am *Soundwave doesn't say anything while Prowl glowers. He doesn't know what else he /can/ say. For Primus' sake, he's not an Odo himself and he never will be; that was out of the question from the moment he made his Underworld journey. How is someone like him supposed to convince someone like Prowl to be /better/ than him?* FakeProwl 12:08 am ... Does he succeed? ItsyBitsySpyers 12:11 am [[...He doesn't know. It isn't explicitly said. And maybe that is part of the point, that we must accept the presence of uncertainty.]]
[[But he likes to think so. They didn't show him failing. They showed him curing the Link. That must mean something.]] [[And they didn't throw him back out.]] FakeProwl 12:12 am You've got access to the records from this universe. You can look it up, can't you? FakeProwl 12:13 am Unless their war only /just/ ended, there's got to be /some/ update on what the Founders are up to now? ItsyBitsySpyers 12:14 am [[What he knows of what comes to pass after this does not speak of it, just as he does not have a record of every single thing within his own. He knows nothing of the result, good or bad.]]
[[But... sometimes quiet is a sign of peacefulness.]] FakeProwl 12:15 am ... Or plotting. ItsyBitsySpyers 12:19 am [[Perhaps. Uncertainty, again.]]
[[But he is tired, both frame-wise and of the idea that nothing can be improved. He has fought it since he first understood that Minicons were true people and he will neither accept it now nor apologize for that.]] FakeProwl 12:21 am *Back at the floor.* ... Sorry I'm so tiring. ItsyBitsySpyers 12:21 am [[You aren't.]] FakeProwl 12:22 am Hmm. FakeProwl 12:24 am *Props his elbows on his knees, laces his hands in front of his crest, presses his thumbs over his dimmed optics.* ItsyBitsySpyers 12:25 am [[You told him he was to be honest. If he had meant you, he would have said you.]]
*Soundwave isn't sure how to handle Prowl's current pose or provide what comfort he thinks that hmm might need, so he just... rests his hand on Prowl's back. And rubs tiny circles with his thumb.* FakeProwl 12:26 am *An initial twitch at the touch, but he doesn't push it away.* ItsyBitsySpyers 12:27 am *He pauses for a second at the twitch, but he's also supposed to trust that Prowl isn't fragile and can speak for himself, so he'll take the lack of being pushed away as a sign that his hand being there isn't a Vital Error.* FakeProwl 12:38 am ... I'm... *No. Get your words in line before you say anything.* ItsyBitsySpyers 12:40 am *Soundwave turns his helm just enough to make it clear he's being patient and listening without fixing his gaze on Prowl and getting all intimidating about it. He'll wait until they're in line.* FakeProwl 12:42 am It's... not that... he's not... that... FakeProwl 12:44 am ... that the path he's... That the path he /wants/ to take... doesn't have... value. It's not that it doesn't—increase the good. It—could. It might. A little bit. ItsyBitsySpyers 12:45 am *Nodding. Go on?* FakeProwl 12:47 am But—only a little bit. Only a small, tiny, local bit. He makes things a little bit better on—on one little planet—and maybe, MAYBE, if he's DAMN lucky, he has a minuscule effect on how that one little planet deals with a few other little planets. But probably not. FakeProwl 12:49 am Compare that to where he is now. The resources he commands. The organizations he's tied to. The things that he can offer to the greater good from his current position are—boundless. Sure, he gets his hands a little dirtier in using them, but what are his hands compared to the welfare of the entire galaxy? One set of hands is a small, small price to pay. FakeProwl 12:51 am By choosing to walk away from those resources, those connections, those many, MANY ways he can advance the greater good... he's just... FakeProwl 12:52 am He's a law enforcer. He believes in order and justice. How, with any good conscience, can he let himself abandon a position where he can do /so much/ for the greater good... to take a smaller role, where he does less good, purely because that's /what he wants/? What is what he wants worth compared to the greater good? ItsyBitsySpyers 1:04 am [[Yes, he is a law enforcer. But tell him, Prowl - isn't making things a little bit better a small, tiny, local bit at a time how law enforcement is supposed to work? It didn't in his time, but ideally - the way you've spoken of it - one officer patrols his set neighborhood, keeping it safe and helping those within it. And surely everyone he protects is happy that he is there, if he does the job the right way and does not abuse his position.]]
[[He may rise through the ranks and he may not. There simply isn't room for everyone to do it. But he continues to perform a vital function for that small area.]]
[[With enough law enforcers taking on pieces of the city, eventually the whole area becomes protected, one being at a time.]]
[[It is not so different with a galaxy. Odo can protect and teach his home planet. Others will try to protect and teach theirs. In time, entire sectors smooth out and things like the Federation are born.]] FakeProwl 1:09 am *Shakes his head.* ItsyBitsySpyers 1:09 am [[And just because someone has the resources, it does not mean they should be the one to use them. Kai Winn had connections, organizations, resources - the theoretical ability to do a great good with them at the price of dirtying her hands. Which she did willingly and often.]]
[[But she should have stepped down. She served Bajor best when she was still a Vedek. And there is no shame in knowing that. There is no shame in wanting to return to that.]] FakeProwl 1:15 am You're exactly right, not everyone deserves to use those resources. Which is why it's so important for the few who /can/ use those resources properly to be the ones to use them. Any patrol cop can make a single city block better. Not just any patrol cop can be trusted with the resources that can be used to steer an entire galaxy toward good or evil. Those that /can/ be trusted with them, can't—can't give up and restrict their influence to a little neighborhood and cross their fingers and hope that the next person to hold those resources isn't a despot or a moron. ItsyBitsySpyers 1:29 am [[They'll have to eventually, whether they want to or not. Someone must come after them. Existence can no more be permitted to stagnate and fall into stasis lock than it can to succumb to chaos.]]
[[And not everything needs to be a heroic sacrifice. He and his deployers share our burdens when we can. It stops us from pushing ourselves to a point from which we cannot recover. And it ensures that we are all capable of going places we could not alone.]]
[[Imagine what the Dominion could someday do for the galaxy if they learn to model themselves after Odo. All their genetic engineering and medical skills, their creative technological developments, their unsurpassed knowledge of an entire quadrant - all used to help instead of harm, to raise others up, and without being smeared by dirty fingers. Benevolence and guardianship.]] ItsyBitsySpyers 1:32 am [[He could have forced the Founder to go with him and make him their leader. He could have broken her the way she tried to break him. Instead, he gave her a choice and kept his hands clean, and she still agreed to turn herself in.]] FakeProwl 1:37 am Of course someone must come after them. That doesn't mean those who are /currently/ capable should—should give up before they must. "I'm going to be useless someday, therefore I might as well be useless now"? Pff. Sharing burdens is—irrelevant. A burden can be shared without giving it up entirely. Acquiring the appropriate assistance to complete one's duty is entirely different from—from flat-out running away from one's duty. FakeProwl 1:39 am *The last point, though—the things they could contribute if someone else steered them that way... Prowl doesn't reply. He lowers his hands from his crest to his mouth, frowning hard behind them, glowering again at the ground.* ItsyBitsySpyers 1:42 am *He doesn't think it's irrelevant. Everyone who isn't forced into dirtying themselves until they're buried and lost can still contribute. They can still show off a shiny spot or two and make the overall future brighter.*
*But Prowl is thinking again, and if he could fire lasers from his optics Soundwave would probably have a nice new storage pit in his floor. So for now, he'll sit in silence.* FakeProwl 1:43 am ... Do you think he succeeded. ItsyBitsySpyers 1:43 am [[Would he have asked you to watch this with him if he didn't?]] FakeProwl 1:45 am Depends on how desperate you are to change my mind. *But, he sees Soundwave's point.* ItsyBitsySpyers 1:49 am [[The answer is yes, Prowl. He thinks Odo succeeded.]]
*To make sure Prowl knows.* FakeProwl 1:52 am *A small nod.* ItsyBitsySpyers 1:56 am [[He's going to have to recharge soon. Would you rather idle with him or have time to yourself? Such as it is.]]
*Sits up only to bend forward a bit to try to get a better view of Prowl's face.* FakeProwl 1:58 am *His expression is unchanged. Still that intense frown of concentration.* FakeProwl 1:59 am ... I'd rather be here. ItsyBitsySpyers 2:01 am *Hmm. Running a simulation? Maybe he'd best not create a disturbance. Or allow one. He could cause a harmless error that would interfere with the sch--*
*Ah.*
[[Then he will stay here with you. Rouse him if you need him. He will not mind.]]
*Sits back again and maneuvers himself into a sort of half-sitting, half-laying position against Prowl's side with his legs over the side of the couch.* FakeProwl 2:02 am ... Before you... One question. ItsyBitsySpyers 2:02 am [[Hm?]] FakeProwl 2:04 am He's not charismatic. He's not popular. Why would—why would they listen to him? Sure, /if/ they listen to him, it could make a... But why would they? Someone like him? ItsyBitsySpyers 2:16 am [[He cannot give a definitive answer to that.]]
[[But it's probably for the same reason someone would listen to a prying, unsettling, suspicious mech like himself: the truth is the truth, whether or not it comes from socially preferred sources. Those who seek it will consider its existence reason enough to listen.]] FakeProwl 2:18 am *In Prowl's experience, next to nobody wants the truth if they dislike the source.* ... I've kept you up far later than you wanted to be. I'm sorry. ItsyBitsySpyers 2:21 am *Well, the world is slow to change. Soundwave hasn't convinced everyone of the Unicron threat. He's convinced a few, though, and that's a start.*
[[He is where he wants to be, and he does not regret the time spent. Don't apologize.]] FakeProwl 2:22 am *Nod.* *Finally, he breaks off his intense stare, sits up, and leans against Soundwave.* ItsyBitsySpyers 2:23 am *Coils a feeler around the avatar and closes his optics.* FakeProwl 2:24 am *Dims his optics, and lets his avatar go idle.*
