Please tell me I’m not tripping but Higgs’ eye makeup in the new DS2 trailer looks very similar to the winged sun disc from Egyptian mythology which (correct me if I’m wrong) I think represents the soul, or sometimes the soul without physical form, as well as a connection to divinity.

Now I don’t know enough about Egyptian mythology to make links and assumptions and I could just be grasping at straws, but I know Death Stranding has a few links to Egyptian mythology, so does anyone with more knowledge on this subject than me have any ideas.

on that note lol, the egyptian myth being referenced here is ‘the weighing of the heart’— particularly the version from the papyrus of hunefer— that depicts the god anubis weighing the heart of the deceased against the feather of the goddess of truth, ma’at. if the heart (aka soul) was found heavier than the feather, then the devourer of the dead, ammit, would eat the soul
so in bat’s portrayal, hitoya and kuukou are both anubis, who is known as a guardian of scales and a god of funerary rites. jyushi’s ammit and amanda is the feather
hilariously tho, because amanda was heavier technically belial should have been sent to heaven so they got robbed here lmao

I don't like how the sinners are presented/explained in season 3. Like they lose their souls, and this somehow turns them into evil versions of themselves who are loyal to Ammit/Frobisher? And also sometimes their eyes glows red?
Like this feels way more like possession than soul loss. Like I almost get the turning evil part, but becoming loyal to what's his face, and red glowing eyes? That is classic possession shit.
The only problem with my possession theory is that you can see their souls in the sarcophagi. But then I remembered that Ancient Egyptians believed that the soul was made up of five parts, and there are five sinners.
What if each sinner is losing the part of their soul that best corresponds to their sin, and between them Ammit gets one whole soul, and the missing bit gets replaced by a possessing force?
Then I remembered that in the end like everyone becomes a sinner/loses their soul without sinning, and it all kind of falls apart. And also as I've learned more about Egyptian Mythology and Ancient Egypt (because the show got me into it), it really feels like the writers were really only working with a pop culture level of knowledge, so the five parts of the soul and the five soulless sinners is probably just a coincidence.
And now I'm sad.

May I have a fun fact?
Today You Learned about how in Egyptian mythology, your soul has different parts! Like LEGO. Except with souls.
Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan lists five. I’ve seen up to nine. Here’s what Wiki has:
-Khet: this is your body.
-Sah: this is your spiritual body. The bit that walks around in the afterlife, presumably?
-Ren: your name! That’s kind of important to keeping all your soul bits together.
-Ba: your personality. This is what makes you unique! Also, it appears as this:
Tumblr media
You can find these flying around the afterlife in the mythology expansion of Assassin’s Creed: Origins.
-Ka: your living essence. It’s what you don’t have anymore when you’re dead.
-Ib: your heart. They weigh this against the Feather of Truth to see if you get to the afterlife! If you don’t, it gets eaten. Sucks to suck!
-Shut: the shadow. That’s a piece of your soul, apparently. Who knew?
-Sekhem: power. Presumably what keeps your soul running in the afterlife?
-Akh: your intellect.
That’s a lot of soul pieces! You would think the afterlife was simpler, but the ancient Egyptians had a lot of rituals to make sure you kept track of all your soul bits and got the afterlife safely.

Anubis and The Witch.
Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of death, was seen having tea with a witch in the underworld. The two were seated at a small table in a dimly lit room, surrounded by shadows. Anubis wore his usual black robes, while the witch was dressed in a long, flowing gown and had a pointed hat on.
As they sipped their tea, they engaged in a lively conversation. Anubis spoke of the souls he had recently guided to the afterlife, while the witch shared stories of her magical exploits. Despite their different backgrounds, they seemed to enjoy each other's company.
The tea was served in delicate porcelain cups and accompanied by small cakes and biscuits. The atmosphere was peaceful, with only the sound of their voices and the occasional clink of a teacup breaking the silence. It was a unique sight to see the god of death and a witch sharing a moment of relaxation in the underworld.

Spirits come to the Hall of Judgement all the time, and they cannot let go of their lies. They deny their faults, their true feelings, their mistakes...right up until Ammit devours their souls for eternity 𓋹
