It's been announced that DuoLingo will stop updating Welsh courses. They've always championed endangered languages in the past but articles say they want to focus more on popular languages like Spanish and French. The following is a link to a petition to get the First Minister of Wales to work with the DuoLingo CEO and get them to save the course.
As someone who is learning Welsh, it's devastating news. Yes, there is still Say Something in Welsh and other methods, but DuoLingo is also extremely helpfull, especially for anyone who may not be able to afford all of the later courses in SSIW.
So please, signage would be most appreciated.
EDIT: Please don't think you have to live in Wales to sign this! I signed and I live in Australia. Share this with your language-learning friends around the world!

Learners of Welsh*, what's your favourite word so far?
Mine's a tie between:
Esgidiau - I like the way it rolls, and
Morfil - it's exactly the kind of name a dignified middle aged whale would have and I think that's perfect
* I'm specifying learners because I like how my favourites have been changing as I learn new words, but I'm still up for hearing cool favourite words from everyone

S’mae! Below are some of the best entry level Welsh resources that I have found useful in my learning process. I hope this helps! (I am learning the North Welian dialect, and many of my resources with reflect that).
1. dysgucymraeg.cymru
This site was developed by the Welsh government to help the citizens learn Welsh. It is free and available to anyone, and has options for South Welsh and North Welsh. If you go to the site, go to the purple icon with three bars in the top right. This will open the menu. From there, select ‘learning’. Scroll until you find the ‘curriculum and course books’. From there, you will find all the Welsh textbooks based on your level. At the bottom is an audiobook, so you can listen and read at the same time. It’s very helpful! I would recommend searching around the entire site.
2. https://open.spotify.com/show/2tYzd4Ezwc9yIZje3wuVEB?si=RZRm0Ao9T3KIntXQSn5-aQ
This playlist has the audios that follow the North Welsh A1 textbook. It’s not finished, but you can find the entire audiobook in part 1.
3. https://youtube.com/@S4C?si=YNG5X8dDP02ly4c-
A classic! S4C has a lot of diverse, wonderful videos in Welsh to help you with listening practice. Colleen Ramsey is a personal favorite of mine.
4. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRC4HSplmfP3lPZRVcfgQjAxSDbuO9Fs9&si=ziuvq5sx_tojVrCP
It’s old, scratchy, and I love it. This is a South Welsh resource, but I still like it. They talk about the Northern dialects as well. It’s got a lot of repetition which helps beginning speakers.
5. https://youtube.com/@galesconmarian?si=SHRJpE65ayoeOAYd
Marian makes blogs for beginning learners. She speaks slowly, and has subtitles in Welsh. Very relaxing, very helpful!

How’s your weekend going…?
I’ve had a six hour Welsh lesson online today, so I felt inspired this evening to share another of my Welsh language illustrations.
I created “Roedden ni'n sâl yn y Sw” or “We were sick at the Zoo” as I was struggling a bit with learning how to talk about things happening in the past, and the many different ways of describing being Poorly (and worse) in the Welsh spoken in North Wales. Yes, Cardiff or South Wales Welsh is different!
If you don’t speak Welsh, is my illustration good enough for you to guess what’s wrong with the animals….?
Anyway, I hope you find it amusing!
Prints and some lovely learning aids and other items are available at:
Thanks! Diolch!
Sam aka LymphomaLass xx

Protip to dysgwyr / Welsh learners-
If you're looking for active Welsh language tags to follow on certain subjects, search for mutated forms as well. That way, more relevant posts show up.
If you follow the #Cymraeg tag, also follow the #Gymraeg and #Nghymraeg tags - and repeat for any other subject (e.g. #Cath, #Gath and #Nghath).
