sometimes i think about the dwarves from twisted wonderland and think, yea actually, i can get why gran's annoyed all the time
imagine you were born shorter than others because of your race, and people infantilize and look down on you because of it, i'd be frustrated as well.
and like, imagine, you'll always be seen as this cute little child, even though you're already a sophomore, and you'll probably always be perceived as one, even when you're an adult, because at the end of the day, all you'll ever be is an extension of someone else's image (neige) and you're whole entire identity revolves around them.
idk i just find the dwarfs to be interesting. like whats their life like outside of neige? do they have hobbies of their own? i'm sure they do enjoy performing with him, but is that all there is to it?? like, what if one of them just goes "hey singing and dancing is fun and all but i wanna pursue a career in archaeology"
probably the other dwarves are bothered by this too, but they care about neige a lot, so they don't really say anything

Oh god the "humans and elves are Inherently Boring, I'm begging you, Larian, please go back and add more companions who aren't humans and elves because they're BORING and I WON'T PLAY THE GAME without more DIVERSITY humans and elves are SHIT I'm personally being left out" people are here, too. Holy christ get bigger problems.
*(Obligatory disclaimer that I'm obviously talking about people throwing hissy fits and acting like their civil rights are being infrgined on because there isn't a fuckable gnome in the party, not just people criticizing BG3 for having X amount of ancestries in the game but not including more in the companion lineup. My issue is how they treat other people in fan spaces and the shitty way they speak at the developers, not because they have preferences.)

Your family have something precious.
Someone comes and kills your family and steals your family’s precious thing.
You try to get it back but you can’t they are too powerful
Then someone else comes and beats the bad guy and takes the precious thing.
But they will not give it back to you.
Their argument is they did all the hard work. They risked their lives. They lost their friends and family to fight Evil while you tried but failed.
Surely they deserve a little piece of rewards?
Also, they said you do not own that precious thing to begin with. That thing is too good and must be shared with everyone for maximum benefit.
But you grew up with that precious thing in your home and lost your family over that thing and you want to keep it. You dead family will want to have it back.
Of course your family did not make that thing out of air. But your family were the ones to reshape it on so something fascinating, something precious.
You want your family’s precious thing back, and those heroes of the stories ignore your pleads.
Your probably think this is about Silmarils.
But this is also how a lot of Sindar elves think about their lost lands.
—————
Imagine you are a Sindar elf that goes back to where your hometown was after the Long Piece started.
Noldor has built a new city in their own style over the ruin of your home
And they welcome you to stay offering citizenship like they are the owner of the land
They imposed new laws, that are different with laws of you people, and they called their laws advanced and right
If you don’t like the laws, you have the “freedom” to leave. They built this place, after all.
You look at that hill over there. You know the name of that hill. Your father brought you there on your begetting days and planted trees.
Your father was abducted by orcs when the Constrainer came from the west. You don’t know if he is alive or not and you don’t know which is the kinder fate.
Now the trees are gone and there are Noldor houses over the hill, and they gave the hill a new name you do not like.
You want to ask if the trees were burnt in the war, or cut down to make places for the house. You kept your questions to yourself.
They came to fight the dark enemy and they brought back your lost homeland. They do not deserve that hostility.
So you live at their city, learn their language, follow their laws, and in your head you call that hill by its old name.
Then one day the words reached you, and you lost it, you went to your Noldor neighbors to ask is that true is that true you came on ships stained by blood of my own people across the sea
They did not look at your eyes, and you know the rumor is true.
But they had no problem looking at your eyes before. They only show guilt after you find out their crimes
You followed their laws.
But what laws did they follow killing your family to steal their ships?
Had circumstances been difficult, would they kill you to steal your land?
But you will not know. You will not afford to find out.

Started a new fortress today and found out that the majority of the alcohol my dwarves decided to bring with them was, in fact, mandrake ale.
So now my metalsmith is off his tits on mandrake poison and has toppled one of my workshops. I really hope that wears off.
Excellent addition to this mod 10/10
I'm glad the fun enhancer is working as intended 😌

just a vague idea, design probably changing, but i’m naming this guy chester. or maybe cothran... chester cothran. how the fuck he ended up at drg, you tell me man. hes just doing his job
came out of a convo with a few friends, since that new halloween mask updates coming out soon, and management still has a green tint to em, i thought it was just the lighting but MAYBE. maybe orcish.. but probably not. its probably still just the lighting. fun to think about though, i really like the idea of orcs and dwarves gettin along like that. and shit, fuckin elves. i think they should all be friends actually

dwarf fortress (un)update
so last night I had a forgotten beast tear through my fort, killing a total of 60 people and all of my chickens. I was in the midst of examining the webby carnage and writing a post for it and my power went out (a borderline terrifying experience in texas, considering how cold it was and what happened last time)
I was going to make it this kind of ‘we will endure’ type moment and rebuild but I guess I don’t have to now.

Nothing says German Christmas quite like some relatives trying to rope you into their barely contained outburst about "Them" trying to take away our rich cultural heritage of "Indianerfilme". And you trying to carefully get through that it's not about whether they themselves are racist for watching "Indianerfilme" (they aren't racist, of course, they would never be) but about not treating real, living, breathing, actual human beings as a fantasy trope on the level of fucking elves, dwarves and dragons - only to get absolutely SLAMDUNKED with the Very Much Not Racist Very Not Equating Native Americans To Fantasy Trope Creatures "Well, their Way Of Life is just so Other and Alien, it's only natural that people would be fascinated by it and Appreciate it!!"
