#drinks at the zocalo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t believe I was living right next to the iconic Zocalo square and I didn’t appreciate it enough because now I’m working 40 hours a week and just stuck in a desk and living in the suburbs. I truly did get spoiled being unemployed and having fun 247 in a vibrant country.
Mexico City is built in the classical European style where you have public squares, cobblestone streets and plazas for social life, congregation and a sense of community VS ugly North America parking lot and highway capitalism where nobody walks and everyone is miserable in their cars and inside their domiciles playing skyrim and fornite instead of having a life.
I miss waking up late and drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes while hanging out in Zocalo with my bf and friends I need to teleport back 😭💔

i will not draw the b5 boy's night out because it is an unmitigated disaster on every level
londo and g'kar get into a fist fight after sniping each other all night. vir gets a black eye attempting to intervene. lennier gets them thrown out of the casino when he gets caught counting cards. franklin ruins the mood by recounting every case of alcohol poisoning he has ever treated in explicit detail. garibaldi, realising that he and lennier are going to be the only sober ones present by the end of the evening, goes to the bathroom half an hour in and doesn't come back. they lose track of corwin while moving to their fourth location and he is later found napping under a table in the zocalo by security. at a certain point in the evening marcus does an impromptu performance of a shakespearean monologue and falls off a table. he claims to be fine but limps for the rest of the night. sheridan gets absolutely wasted on vodka and orange juice after challenging the drazi ambassador to a drinking contest and throws up on lennier's shoes as he is being helped back to his quarters. lennier adds this to his List of Grievances
they forgot to invite zack and he is Extremely Upset and will not shut up about it for nearly a month afterwards

For all 3 of them! -- Death By Chocolate: an indulgence/guilty pleasure headcanon.
Ahuatli's favourite indulgence in is chocolate, and who can blame her? She never thought much of the mass-produced sweets that circulated through Orgrimmar every Love is in the Air season, but the Zandalari take the delicacy to another level. From strawberries to peppers to her famous homemade mon'dazi pastries, Ahuatli has developed a sweet tooth.
While Ahuatli prefers things sweet, her husband appreciates spices - and after a day's work in the embassy, Zul'Jawa can often be found in the Hot House in the heart of the Zocalo, sharing Jungle Heat P'terrorwings with any friends who can stomach the intensity.
And finally, though she's in a good place and headspace now, Azae'latl used to be a regular fixture in some of Zandalar's seediest pubs and taverns. Trollish drinks may taste fruity and heavenly, but they can hit as hard as any dwarven stout or tripel. These days, she sticks to Kungaloosh, and doesn't drink to excess.
[ Happily tagging @zeehva who asked the same question! ^^ Thank you @kharrisdawndancer !! ]

Upgrades and museums
What a difference $25 bucks makes! The Hotel Isabel is just that much closer to downtown, and the room is 5 times the size, with a big private bathroom, huge double door onto a second story balcony, and a lovely flat lump free bed. No padlocks on the doors or bag ladys living across the hall. The interior courtyard is glassed over, leaving a big airy space with the walkway lined by flowering plants. The room door is 10 feet tall, matching the 16 foot ceiling. There's a restaurant , and it's all secure. Phew! Pension Zocalo was OK for an overnighter, just a cheap place to flop, but this Hotel is luxury!
I,m here for the culture and am getting a ton. First day out i stumbled through 3 museums, all interesting. Second day i met with Maru, a Mexican friend, and she guided me through 4 more. First a walk through the Alameda, then a cathedral, and on to the Franz Meyer museum, a remarkable collection of bits and pieces, no theme, just whatever caught his eye. I,d seen a poster for a Leonardo Da Vinci collection of artifacts and inventions. I don't know if all those wooden tools were originals but was surprised by how many were
so advanced for their time. He invented the parachute, and while it was far too small to work, the concept of compressing air to slow a fall was sound. The glider too was impractical, but would work if scaled up. How about a trip hammer, and centrifugal machine, a geared pulley, and a dozen other inventions, all made from wood, and rope. The Mona lisa smiled, and Maru pointed out that she has no eyebrows. The last super was larger than i,d imagined
We walked through 2 more gallerys, with lots of paintings, mostly of the "portrait of children, Mums, and patriarchs" school. Now museums are quiet places, so when we saw a huge black marble table too tall to sit at, Maru wondered what it was for. I said it was for corpos(latin for corpse) and she had a giggle fit, but quietly. Some good watercolours, beautiful scenery, and all framed with the most elaborate carved wooden frames, art by themselves. We found a hall of marble statuary, and marvelled at how someone could chip a block of stone into a fully muscled body. The usual angels, a copy of David, and more. Most impressive were the ballrooms with 40 foot ceilings, all frescoed and gilded over delicious parquet floors glossy with varnish and smoothed by use. One music room had block floors, wooden blocks set on end and sanded flat, thousands of them. Elaborate marble staircases, spiraled up along wrought iron railings, leading to overviews of perfect interior courtyards. Too much to list, and a lot of stairs to climb. There were entrance fees for most places, but modest amounts, and well worth the price.
Time had flown by and we were hungry so she took me to the Pagoda restaurant, the only thing chinese being the screen at the bathroom doors. The place was packed with knowing locals, food was Mexican, and the set meal(comida corrida) started with tortilla soup, red rice, tons of buns, and then a main course. I had Mole but it was pretty spicy for my taste. Washed it down with the included lime drink. Maru had arranchera, known as flank steak, very popular locally. Total cost for both meals 200 pesos($16) We ate and chatted, her in english and Spanish, me in English and Spanglish. Odd but we covered some complex subjects by helping each other. She's going to visit her boyfriend gordon in Idaho this summer. Gordon is a crusty old guy, with a good heart, and i grew to like him at Casa Dan.
Maru had a one hour commute by bus to home, as Mexico city is sprawled for umpteen miles. I had a half hour walk to my hotel, carrying my dinner in a bag from the bakery, a doughnut, creme puff, and strawberry shortcake all of which were delicious, proving that not all Mexican baked goods have been run through the flavor extractor. Saved the doughnut for the Anthropology museum and had a few walnuts for topping off. My legs were very tired, basically 6 hour walking. though there are usually period piece furniture in all museums, they are no sit zones and places to rest are few. home to flop with netflixs, and clean internet.
Today was the time to go to the famous Anthropology museum, a must see, 2 floors of artifacts, displays, dioramas, and culture. I,ve been twice before, and will go again, because it's huge, and vastly interesting. Getting there was a challenge, since I am trying to use public transit. I have a map of the subway system, but signage is in Spanish(natch) and everybody else knows the drill. I walked to the marked entrance ( across 6 lanes of traffic) but that station was closed, so i did my usual which is ask several people for directions/info and average it all out. Works! The vendor by the bus stop gave my complete instructions and I faithfully took his advice on buses. Got a bus after 3 passed by, and got off where he,d said(though I really did not understand the details) and with a bit of searching(here,s the exit, where the heck is the entrance?) dashed across those 6 lanes again and down into the tombs. Interrupted the ticket lady who was doing her makeup, and she graciously directed me onward. One more ask at the platform, and got the right train. there are police everywhere, so it,s secure. The first cars are for women only, even safer. On board announcements are in the international language of loudspeakers, loud and blurred to incomprehension. Happily i had my map. and watched the station signs as we paused to dump off people and stuff more on. Actually navigate succesfully, and found the overpass to Chapultepec Park, a 2000 acres woods and lake and garden and zoo and museums and at last the Anthropology museum. So nice to get off the roaring streets and into some woods, however cultivated.
I,m not going to detail the Museum, except to say that after 4 hours of viewing my legs were shot and the cases of artifacts were becoming blurrily the same. All that was just the ground floor displays, so you can imagine the size and complexity of the place.
Getting home was another adventure as i was dubious about the subway stopping where I needed to go. My guidebook said take any bus on Reforma and i did with some trepidation. Started off ok, but quickly filled both decks (double deckers) to capacity. i ended up clinging to a pole by the mid door exit, jammed with my fellow passengers. Seemed like nobody got off, just kept loading them on. Again i asked a guy for the Alameda, the only landmark i knew and he helped me off. I knew the direction but saw no familiar sights. There ahead was salvation! A KFC! Time for lunch! 2pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, a biscuit, and an ice cream, all washed down with a coke, 99 pesos ($8). Greaty refreshed I asked for more directions and by golly there was the Alameda and now I knew my way. Huge crowds surging by the hundred at crosswalks, and lots of police in riot gear with shields. This did not make me feel safer. All the crowd pressed shoulder to shoulder towards the Zocalo and I felt very uncomfortable, knowing that so many people packed together could have a crushing stampede. No choice but to walk at the crowds pace until my corner, where the pack thinned. Now I really realize just how crowded this huge city is! Glad to get back to a hot shower, and a safe place. Glad too that i abandoned my idea of extending my excursion with a trip to the zoo across the road from the museum, as at 5 pm lightning flashed, thunder roared, and rain pelted down, Most people sheltered in shop doorways, but a surprising number flipped up umbrellas or donned rain suits.
So, another day in the worlds biggest city. Planning to do that zoo visit tomorrow, with a museum or two thrown in. who knows where the bus will take me?

Same Time Next Week?
Lennier and Vir meet for their usual drink. A pre-relationship fic. Read on Archive of Our Own here.
“I keep giving them time together, leaving the room at propitious times,” Lennier mutters to his drink. Vir’s reflection in the glass wobbles as he shakes it. “And yet, every time I return to her quarters, it is as if I am intruding on the moment right before.”
Vir tells his drink, “See, for me, it’s exactly the opposite problem. He just won’t stop. He’s got a girl over, who cares, he thinks I should read the dispatches through the door while she’s working on him. And I—you know Centauri have robust appetites, but this is just grotesque.”
Lennier does not quite know how to respond to that, so he takes a sip of his water. Vir fills up the silence.
“And he’s gotten into so much trouble over his—wenches, and he never learns! I can’t fault the women, he’s such an easy target, and the ambassador’s allowance does come earmarked for certain performances. Centauri have a reputation to keep.”
Lennier says gloomily, “I’m allergic to her hair. She sheds like a cat.”
“I like cats,” Vir brightens. “One of our friends from Earth gave Londo a cat once, but then G’Kar killed it. By accident, he claims.”
Lennier drinks. The petty, cruel squabbles of the ambassadors before the war seem so tame now. He and Vir have been doing what they can for the Narn Resistance, he knows. He does not know what Vir has been doing and he does not need to know. These impromptu chats are not meant to be diplomatic relations or war planning. They are necessary catharsis, in a world so consumed by the powers of darkness.
“I love bitching,” Vir says happily. “Waiter, another round! Just for me, thank you.” Unstealthily he looks at Lennier and looks away. “I’m here by myself.”
“Okay,” the bartender says. “On the ambassador’s tab?”
Vir gives an insipid smile. Not only is it unnecessary, it draws further attention to him. The bartender backs away and comes over to Lennier.
“Centauri,” he mutters. “Can I top you off?”
“I am interested in trying your carbonated water,” Lennier announces placidly. “Perhaps with a piece of one of your Earth fruits.”
The bartender stares at him. “You mean a soda.”
“The added sugar is unhealthful.”
“So a seltzer,” the bartender parses. “Right. Coming right up. Lime? I think you’d like lime.”
The cold glass of seltzer sweats like Vir’s shining face. Lennier looks at his reflection refracted in all the little droplets of the glass. He is not unattractive. The smarminess is a cultural characteristic imputed in all Centauri, and Vir charms it into something kind with his genuine compassion. These clandestine talks, speaking to each other’s drinks, moor him in time. Lennier does not know what he would do without this lifeline. Well, he does know: he would carry on, but carry on less full than he needs to. He is his flame in the dark.
Vir crouches over his goblet and whispers, “They killed G’Kar’s nephew last night. My agent made sure it was quick. But they’ll lie to him anyway, to make him suffer more. He won’t believe me if I tell him. As if I could tell him.”
Lennier says, “I will.”
They drink.
G’Kar is unsubtle and prone to posturing like the tragic hero he has become, with as eloquent rhetoric that Lennier has read in any scripture. He cannot risk telling him his nephew died cleanly. G’Kar would broadcast it to the entire station. So he will think his nephew died drowning in his own blood, or worse, and blame himself, and blame the Centauri more, and stoke the flame to survive this war. G’Kar deserves better. His nameless nephew deserves better. Narn deserves better, and so do they all.
Lennier says aloud, “I can’t take much more of this.” He pauses. Vir looks at him sharply and then looks away, creaking back in his seat. “But I must. So I will.”
“Well,” Vir muses. “It can always be worse.”
“You think that’s comforting?” Lennier says.
Vir shrugs, laughing a bit. “Well, I mean, yes. It could be so much worse. All of Londo’s wives could be back here. My wife could be back here. Do you remember G’Kar’s terrifying attaché?”
A bit wounded, Lennier says, “I thought you weren’t married.” Both men look at each other, slightly shocked. Vir almost reaches for him. Lennier looks away.
Vir clears his throat. “Another round!” he demands, trying and failing to channel Londo. He peers over his empty glass at Lennier. “Why don’t you drink?”
Taken aback, Lennier says, “I do drink.” He gestures with his water. “Look.” He smiles, and wonders what he’s trying. This only works if they don’t interact directly. He doesn’t want to lose this. He cannot speak to Delenn, as much as she tries, and the Babylon 5 staff are so tense, it is difficult to come to a meditative medium with them. All he has is Vir.
Vir says, “I don’t know how you get through this without help.” The bartender places another drink in front of him, and he drains it sloppily, spluttering as it pours down his throat. Lennier waits patiently. Vir coughs, wipes his face with his coat sleeve, and says, “I can’t do this without these nights.” He puts his arm down on the bar and Lennier quietly places his hand on his. Surprised, Vir looks up at him. Lennier doesn’t look away. Vir does not let go.
“It’s been a hell of a night,” Vir says. “Life. Year. Time on this station.” He gestures vaguely with his free hand.
“Yes,” Lennier responds. A smile ghosts across his face.
Then the bartender comes by and says, grinning, “So, another Shirley Temple?” Quickly they let go of each other and look away.
“I think I’m done for the night,” Vir says.
“I as well.”
The bartender tallies their tabs and walks away, shaking his head. Vir dabs at his face awkwardly. Lennier stares fixedly into the distance.
Finally, he says, “Same time next week?”
Vir says, “Always. Yes. Of course.”

Femslash February 25 - The “L” Word
Bobbie [The Expanse] x Ivanova [Babylon 5]
The station was in uproar since the two humans came through the jump gate in a ship that didn’t conform with a silhouette in known space. The older woman identified herself as the Secretary General of the United Nations which caused even more confusion as the United Nations had been dissolved over a century ago.
Now the woman named Avasarala was holed up with John, Delenn and G’Kar after he forced his way in. Ivanova supposed they’d have to be happy that Londo was on Centauri Prime or he’d let the entire station know. Ambassador Kosh for the brief time he’d shown up had seemed as discomforted as a Vorlon could be before he left as abruptly as he came. They’d figured out it was not a case of time travel and were currently working with the theory of alternate worlds.
Ivanova looked at the other woman who came with Avasarala. Bobbie Draper said she was a former Marine from Mars. She currently looked bored out of her mind. “Hey, they’re gonna be at this for a long time. Wanna get out of here?”
Bobbie looked at Avasarala. “Get the fuck out of here, Bobbie. See what there is to see,” she said without heat.
“Yes, ma’am.”
After they left John’s office, Bobbie let out a huge breath. “Oh, thank God. I thought I’d be stuck there forever.”
“I’m off duty now. You want to get a drink?”
“Yes, please.”
When they entered the Zocalo, Ivanova thought Bobbie’s eyes would pop out of her head. Ivanova could tell she was trying not to stare at the variety of aliens but she couldn’t help herself. She wasn’t the only one. Bobbie was quite tall for a human and drew quite a few stares herself.
When their drinks came, Ivanova asked, “You really don’t have aliens?”
Bobbie frowned and took a drink. “We did but it was this goo that ate people and almost made Eros fly into Earth.”
“Sounds unpleasant.”
“You don’t have that problem?”
Ivanova shook her head. “We have almost every other problem but not that.”
Bobbie dipped her head and leaned in. “The people with the hair. Are they aliens or humans?”
“The Centauri. And I still haven’t figured out their hair.”
The two were interrupted. “Susan.”
“Talia. Would you like to join us?”
“I have to meet some clients shortly. Otherwise I would. Who’s your friend?”
“This is Bobbie Draper. She’s . . . from Mars. Bobbie, this is Talia Winters, the station’s telepath.”
Bobbie almost spat out her drink. “Telepaths exist?”
Talia looked at Bobbie in shock. “I’ll explain it later,” Ivanova told her. Talia nodded and went on her way.
“She’s cute,” Bobbie said.
And maybe it was the alcohol or just the weirdness of the day but Ivanova responded, “Yeah.”
The two continued drinking as Bobbie tried to figure out this world in her own way. “So, Delenn came from the world humans were in a war with? That almost killed all of humanity? But it’s so obvious that Sheridan and Delenn love each other!” she exclaimed, Martians not being able to handle their alcohol as well as Russians apparently.
“How is that any different than you and Avasarala from what you told me?”
Bobbie looked down at her drink. “Yeah, we don’t talk about the “L” word. I try not to be obvious but I guess I’m not.”
Ivanova shook her head. “I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who picked up on it, me being - “
“With the blonde telepath?”
“No. Being a superior observer.” Ivanova finished her vodka. “Talia and I - we don’t really talk about the “L” word either.”
Bobbie set her hand heavily on Ivanova’s shoulder. “There’s a solution to that.”
“What’s that?”
“We have some fun and maybe make them jealous.”
And as Bobbie pulled her in for a kiss, Ivanova saw no problem with that plan.

“Second Player”
John/Delenn | Fluff/First Date | FR12 | 1,705 words In her research into Humans, Delenn finds herself curious about Babylon 5's arcade. John is more than happy to assist with her enquiries.
Delenn stared up at the neon signage of Flynn’s Arcade, her lips pursed as she tried to contemplate the storefront in the Zocalo. She had passed by it many a time in her years on the station but had never once ventured inside. It served no purpose: there were no menus displaying food or drink to purchase; there were no obvious wares or clothing items she might find enticing. Just the heady sight of neon and rapid squawking sounds. The word, arcade, was defined as a covered passageway with arches along both sides. Delenn did not understand how such a place could be considered an arcade.
If only— “Good afternoon, Ambassador.”

CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
by Itzel
Every country has customs and traditions that distinguish them from the rest of the world, and Mexico is no exception. Throughout the year, you will find festivities full of music, dance and color with deep meaning and strong cultural roots. Mexican traditions have survived the passage of time, some have been transformed, mixed with customs from other states or countries but rescuing and preserving their essence. Here is everything you need to know about the most popular Mexican traditions, which you should not miss.
‍1. Day of the Dead
If there is one thing that sets Mexico apart, it is the way we honor our dead. This tradition takes place on November 1 and 2 of each year. The Day of the Dead fills the streets of every city and municipality, and Mexican homes with color.
Honoring and showing respect to the dead is a custom that has been passed down from generation to generation. There are variations of this tradition in each region, such as the Hanal Pixan, a unique tradition in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Visiting the graves of the deceased, cleaning the tombs and decorating them with flowers are some of the traditions of this celebration, but without a doubt, one of the most outstanding customs is to place an altar that welcomes the deceased who visit us on these dates.
During these dates you can find great cultural richness and taste the special food of the country.

‍2. La Guelaguetza in Oaxaca
La Guelaguetza, also known as ¨Los lunes del Cerro¨, is the most important holiday in Oaxaca. This is a celebration full of music, color and joy, which takes place on the two Mondays following July 16th.
The Guelaguetza, with religious origins, began as an indigenous celebration dedicated to Centéotl, the goddess of tender corn. After the Spanish Conquest, this celebration became a Catholic rite performed in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.
The Guelaguetza gathers representatives from the eight regions of Oaxaca, who take the Cerro Fortín to perform their traditional dances, typical costumes and great gastronomic variety.
Over the years, the Guelaguetza has become more popular, extending its festivities with activities that satisfy all tastes. Cultural events, dances, gastronomic demonstrations and concerts by artists of the moment are some of the activities you can enjoy.
Some of the dances that are performed on the Lunes de Cerro are the Sones Serranos, the Jarabe Mixteco, the Danza de la Pluma, the Sandunga and the Danza Flor de Piña.
Tumblr media
3. The Papantla Flyers
The Papantla Flyers are known all over the world. Their dance takes place in the city of Papantla, Veracruz but it is not the only region where it is performed.
This ritual dates back to pre-Hispanic times and although it has been modified over time, it retains its original meaning. From the beginning this event is part of the merit rituals, in which they sought to obtain prosperity and a long life.
The ritual begins when the leader of the dancers goes into the forest in search of the best tree to perform the dance. It is necessary to clean the land so that when the tree falls, its structure is not damaged. Once on the ground, the branches and foliage are removed to leave only the trunk.
The final part of the ritual is the well-known descent of the dancers suspended from a rope. This dance is an ancestral tradition that will undoubtedly surprise you.

‍4. Dance of the Parachicos in Chiapas
From January 8 to 23, the largest celebration in Chiapa de Corzo is held. The dance of the Parachicos was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
The most striking aspect of this festival is that you can see the dancers dressed in embroidered shawls, sarapes and colored ribbons, wooden masks and carrying tin rattles called chinchines which they play during the dances.
As in all the customs and traditions of Mexico, the best traditional dishes and drinks cannot be missed.
Tumblr media
‍5. Parade of Alebrijes in CDMX
It is a recently created event which has had an excellent acceptance. The Alebrijes Parade has been held since 2007 and is organized by the Museum of Popular Art with the help of several institutions.
Albrijes are an icon of Mexican culture and have their origin in the early 20th century. The artist Pedro Linares, who was famous for his ability to create carnival masks and other paper mache works, became ill with a fever that caused him to have many vivid dreams bringing these unique and colorful figures to life.
The parade starts in the Zócalo of the city and you will be able to admire paper mache figures, painted in brilliant colors, up to 4 meters high. The parade can look like a carnival when accompanied by musicians, clowns, costumed people and more.
At the end of the parade the figures are displayed in the Paseo de la Reforma. Afterwards, the alebrijes are judged and prizes are awarded to the artisans.

‍6. Carnival of Veracruz‍
Although this festivity takes place in many regions of the country, the carnival of Veracruz stands out for being the most famous in Latin America after the one in Rio de Janeiro.
Some of the events are the coronation of the carnival kings, which takes place in the city's zocalo, and the "Quema del Mal humor" (burning of the bad mood), which starts the festivities.
During the 9 days that this celebration lasts you will be able to admire how the streets of the city are filled with color and joy. There are parades of floats decorated with unique designs that will surprise you and are accompanied by dancers who wear colorful costumes.
The city is full of visitors who travel from other parts of the country willing to enjoy the joyful Jarocho atmosphere. To conclude the festivities, on the ninth day, the burial of Juan Carnaval takes place.
Tumblr media
‍7. Holy Week‍
Holy Week, also known as Semana Mayor, is one of the best known religious celebrations in Mexico. This is the most important time for the Catholic community.
In spite of being a religious celebration, it is considered a national holiday, so it is common to see activities suspended at many levels of school, government and private areas.
This holiday period is considered one of the best times of the year to go on vacation with family and friends.
In the Catholic liturgical calendar, Lenten starts on February 14, on Ash Wednesday and ends on March 29, on MaundyThursday. In Mexico, religious processions and celebrations are the results of syncretism between ancient cultures and the Spanish. The mortification, sacrifice, and physical pain that take place during some of the representations of the Way of the Cross are used to express repentance, redemption, and fulfill promises.
Tumblr media
8. Independence Day ‍
Every year on September 16, Mexicans around the world celebrate Mexico's independence. It is one of the traditions that best represent the pride of being Mexican, and that is why every September is called the month of the nation.
On the night of September 15, Mexicans gather in the zocalo of each city or in their homes. Outside the country, Mexicans in different parts of the world do not let this day go by and they also gather to celebrate.
The main event of the night is the famous ¨Grito of Independencia¨ simulating what Father Hidalgo did on September 16, 1810. The President of the Republic is in charge of making this representation at a national level and in each city and municipality it is replicated by the rulers in turn.
During this celebration you will be able to enjoy the traditional Mexican food stands, mariachi music, concerts by artists of different genres and, of course, the fireworks shows cannot be missed.
Tumblr media
9. Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe‍
In Mexico, the Catholic religion is deeply rooted in our culture. The celebrations around the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe start the December festivities known as the Guadalupe-Reyes Marathon.
The celebration takes place on December 12 as it is the date of the last apparition of the Virgin to San Juan Diego on the Tepeyac hill, according to Catholic belief.
On December 11, at 6:45 p.m., the celebrations begin with serenades and other tributes. At 12:00 am musicians and artists sing the traditional "mañanitas" to the Virgin.
During the day the churches and parishes see a great influx of people to attend the scheduled masses. In several places in the country, thousands of people go on pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
Tumblr media
‍10. The Posadas‍
The posadas take place from December 16th to 24th. They are one of the most beautiful traditions in Mexico.
During the 9 days of the posadas, prayers are said and each one has a different meaning: humility, strength, detachment, charity, trust, justice, purity, joy and generosity.
By custom, a house is designated as the host for each day, and neighbors and family members organize to carry out these activities. After the prayers you can enjoy a conviviality where food and drink are offered to those attending and they can break the traditional piñata.
In the posadas, it is customary for participants to blindfold themselves to break the piñata, which is made of baked clay or cardboard and is decorated with colorful paper mache.
Today, piñatas accompany all kinds of festivities and are not limited only to the posadas.
Tumblr media
11. Epiphany or Three Wise Men's Day‍
It is a religious holiday celebrated in Mexico on January 6 to commemorate the arrival of the Three Wise Men in Bethlehem to worship the baby Jesus.
Don't miss out on the wide variety of bagels that are baked: try the different types of fillings and toppings that you will love.
The rosca de reyes hides inside one or more plastic dolls representing the baby Jesus. The custom dictates that whoever finds one of these dolls must present the baby Jesus in church and invite his family and friends to eat tamales on February 2nd, better known as La Candelaria's day.

oh oh oh for the ship ask, could I get some wonderful Ivanova x Talia with 2. 4. 15. 21. and 23?? (if that's too many feel free to pick and choose lol)
Ohhh yay! I love when people send multiple numbers to an ask meme. It’s the best and there are never too many. ❤️
2. Who is the most insecure and what makes them feel better?
Talia is the most insecure. Even prior to the activation of Control, once she starts to question the Corps and her continued future in it, it’s clear her understanding of who she is, who she’s meant to be, and the purpose of the life she’s led is upended. After (and assuming) they’re able to remove Control and reestablish her original personality, she’s especially lost and directionless. She’s been a puppet and a means to achieve an end her entire life. It helps that Ivanova is the opposite: strong, steadfast, and sure of herself and the direction her life is going. The years after Control are very hard years. It takes a lot of patience, reassurance, support, and unfailing love to make her feel better, but Ivanova never strays from her side. Whatever they’re doing, and wherever they are, having that constant she can always come back to despite the hell they’ve gone through helps her feel better over time.
4. Who can’t keep their hands to themselves?
Suuuuusan especially when she drinks. Oh my god. She has a secretly affectionate and romantic side which doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to come out. Talia is a strong enough telepath to pick up on Ivanova’s feelings for her even when the words don’t come easily, and I don’t have a consistent headcanon for the extent Ivanova’s powers allow her to do the same if at all, but physical affection is something she doesn’t have to be a telepath to do. She loves making Talia hers with her hands and she takes every opportunity to do so.
15. When they watch a film what do they choose and why? Who gets the final vote?
Growing up in the Corps, Talia’s frame of reference for films is limited to say the least. This baffles Ivanova in a way she also finds endlessly amusing. Ivanova seems like the kind who would choose films primarily for the purpose of Fucking With Talia and giving her the most batshit smattering of cinema at her disposal. Maybe she’d take a page from Garibaldi’s book and curl up with some Warner Bros. Ghostbusters? Something in that vein? She’d (intentionally) come up with the wildest explanations for their tech to see how much Talia is willing to buy before she questions it and (probably unintentionally) the wrongest context of the films within human history. Talia would be forever baffled by this form of entertainment, but they’d have fun being baffled together.
21. Where do they get nervous about going with one another?
In public is tricky for a while after they get together officially. It was one thing when they were dancing around their attraction to each other and their dates could be plausibly called “business” or “colleagues sharing a drink after a hard day.” Something buckwild is always happening on Babylon 5, after all, and their jobs put them both in the line of fire in terms of having to deal with the most buckwild shit.
After they get together, Ivanova’s triggers around telepaths light right up, and she becomes fearful of what it might mean for her if the wrong person discovers she has an intimate relationship with a telepath. I think she would also be somewhat worried about accidentally projecting the wrong thing - namely, that she’s touched Talia’s mind, too - just because she’s doubling down so hard on trying not to think about it.
She has to be coaxed in small steps - it’s okay for them to go out to the garden or to see Delenn, but the Zocalo and the cafes are probably off-limits for a while.
23. Where is their favourite place to be together?
In line with the above, because Ivanova is nervous about them being seen together in public, their favorite place to be together on the ship is Ivanova’s quarters. It’s the one place where both of them can truly take off the facades and the pretenses they put on for the outside world and be themselves, with each other.
Unlike Talia’s quarters, which are somewhat bare and lifeless - she’s used to a life of non-attachment, and her work tends to uproot her from one place to another, so she doesn’t keep much outside of the practical necessities - Ivanova’s are full of little pieces of herself and the life she’s led by her own design. Plants, including her illicit coffee plant. Mementos from Ganya. Posters in Russian. Her corner of the world, so carefully and lovingly her, would come to be a home for Talia, too.

Bienvenidos a la Ciudad de México!
Tumblr media
With over 20 million people living in a bustling metropolis of Mexico City area, we were expecting a loud, crazy, and totally crammed city. What we experienced was very much the opposite. Mexico City may be one of the greenest, calmest major cities we’ve been to, with parks, trees, and beauty hiding around every corner. We visited in late March. The Jacaranda trees were in full bloom that made the color of the city purple. Mexico City is the largest city in North America and the fifth largest city in the world.
Tumblr media
Mexico City is a fabulous vacation destination. In general, it is a very safe city. The public transit is easy to navigate and Uber is inexpensive. The US dollar goes a long way here. Everyone we came into contact with was very friendly. To be honest, we're pretty much smitten with Mexico City. The city is full of life, great food, seems to have it all. We very much enjoyed our stay. We’ve only scratched the surface. We would definitely visit again very soon!
Tumblr media
The famed Madero Street is a block away from our hotel. It is a geographically and historically significant pedestrian street of Mexico City and a major thoroughfare of the historic city center. We love walking leisurely in Madero street early at night. The street has always been one of the most popular and busiest since colonial times.

Zocalo Central Hotel
Mexico City is a sprawling metropolitan city. Choosing where to stay can be overwhelming. I'm glad we made the right choice. The historic Zocalo Central Hotel was excellent for us. Our room was overlooking the Zocalo Square, the heart of the city. Great service, very friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommended!
Zocalo central is the perfect starting point for all the sites downtown.

We enjoyed the daily breakfast at the hotel’s Balcon de Zocalo restaurant on the top floor overlooking the main square. I miss the beef and chicken chilaquiles. And the fresh off the oven croissants are to die for.

Cafe Central by the lobby provides guests with free coffee, drinks, and sandwiches.

2019
12.31.19
What is it about time that is so precious? Can it be the fact that it’s one of the few things, that if we give away, we can not get back in return? Yes, time is very valuable, and we measure it sometimes in memories and special events that happen in our lives. We also acknowledge its presence when we look into the feature and we envision the amount of time our hopes and dreams will take for them to become a reality. Yet nothing is more nostalgic than to look back in time. To remember all the good and bad, the happy and sad, the moments that have shaped us and made us learn.
2019 has been nothing short than one amazing year. Not everything has been perfect, but there have been way more ups than downs. I must admit, that there were a few “plot twists” along the way that i was just not expecting. Also now that the year is coming to an end i’m left in a state of confusion and loss for words and feelings. This year had made me face my past, build new relationships, grow, and most importantly, simply let life be.
I would like to take the time to highlight my most memorable moments of 2019. Events that changed me in different ways. My 2019 new year started on the correct foot. I decided to ring in the New Year with some close friends and i told myself that i would not drink. Not because i have anything against alcohol, but simply because i wanted to start the year off on a positive note. I believe that the energy you put out into the universe is the same that comes back. I truly wanted some type of change this year. I yearned to let go of so many things and pursue a more peaceful life style.
In late February i was contacted by Romeo. This was one of those “plot twist” moments in my life. He had not reached out to me in close to 2 years or more. Yet i must admit that even though it had taken me years to get over him, the truth is he made such an impact in my life that i was unable to completely forget him. Every once an a while he would creep up in my memory when i lay quiet in my room just lost in thought. Yet that late February morning, when my phone rang, i was not expecting to hear his ring tone that i had set for him many years ago when i was lost in love with him. I remember looking at my phone and every moment spent with him just flashing through my mind as if it had just happened. I didn’t feel prepared to hear his voice. I knew that if i picked up that phone, this time, i would not be able to say no if he were to ask me to return and be part of my life. I don’t really know how i did it, but i let the phone ring and i made myself busy, as to forget the empty feeling i felt inside. I guess i will never know what could have been if i had answered that call.
In late March i had already blocked out the whole Romeo situation and since my birthday had just passed i decided to do a birthday hike with some friends. My friend Ana had asked me if she could invite a friend of hers and i agreed. His name is Victor but everyone knows him as Lefty. Little did i know that Lefty would turn out to be such a hidden blessing in my life. I must admit that when i met Lefty i was attracted to his good looks, charisma and charm that he exudes. Unfortunately for me Lefty is as straight as they come. I enjoyed hanging out with Lefty because he was always positive. He’s the type of person that sees the good in everyone. He stays optimistic no matter what situation he’s in. Even when he’s down he rather smile than focus on the sadness. As the year progressed we began to hangout a lot more and i introduced him to my friends, who also became pretty good friends with him. As the summer months neared i told Lefty that my plans were to travel and live in Mexico for 2 months. At this point Lefty and i were hanging out so regularly that it felt like i had gained a brother. I remember him saying how weird it would be not to see each other and hang out for so long. I told him it was too bad he couldn’t come with me and experience living in another country and taking in its culture. Turns out the company he worked for was closing for good and it opened the possibility for him to come with me. We got all his paper work done to expedite his passport and as soon as June came along i left to Mexico. Lefty met me there in July.
I had never spent so much time away from home, but i’m sure glad i did. I got to spend so much time with my family in Mexico City. When Lefty arrived he was in culture shock. It was a pleasure to be able to show him the places that brought happiness to my soul, and see that it also brought him happiness as well. The day Lefty arrived, that night as i lay my head down to fall asleep, Romeo came to mind for a brief second. My dream was to one day travel with him to Mexico, but in that moment i understood that dream would never come true. Lefty and i literally ate everything we could get our hands on. We had the most amazing time. We visited El Paseo de la Reforma, El Castillo de Chapultepec, El Zocalo, Texcoco, La Universidad de Chapingo, El Molino de las Flores, Las Piramides, Xochimilco, and went hiking to Los Baños de Nezahualcoyotl. Apart from that we traveled to the state of Guanajuato where i was born and we spent a couple days at my late grandmothers home in San Pedro de los Naranjos. I also took him to Salvatierra, and to the city of Guanajuato where we saw the mummies, the temple made of gold and went up to El Pipila. The highlight of our trip was when we spent a couple days on a private beach in Veracruz for my cousins birthday, where we ate and drank till we could no more. We did so many things on this trip and i’m happy that i was able to spend that time with Lefty. My family loved him and asked me to bring him back soon. Im happy to say that to this day Lefty and i remain very good friends and i can always count on him. He’s an amazing person, more than a brother to me, and i hope our friendship is one that exceeds time and last forever.
Shortly after returning from Mexico i decided to go have coffee with some friends at a local coffee shop that we frequently go to. There i met the most handsome man. He’s tall, has these deep dark brown eyes that just mesmerize you and pull you in. He has skin that is tan as if the tropical island sun had blessed him with a kiss of its warm sun rays. His smile makes you want to melt in his big strong arms. Yet the most important characteristic that he’s blessed  with is his big beautiful heart. When i talk to him i can see that he has faced some battles in his life that have been hard to overcome, and it makes me want to hold his hand and battle along his side. I call him “habibi.” Habibi meaning my love, my dear, my darling or beloved in Arabic. I fell for him pretty hard and i’m completely enamored with him. Maybe it was because for the first time in my life, a man reached out to get to know me without having ulterior motives. Most guys just want to fuck and leave, but my habibi actually took the time to somewhat get to know me. Don’t get me wrong, if he asked me to let him hit i would give in immediately, yet that conversation has not come up. It has not always been easy to stay in contact with him, he’s always “busy.” I just know that he’s been a hidden blessing in my 2019. Meeting him proved that i could love again, and move on. It will be five months of knowing my habibi on January 7th. To be honest i don’t know where this relationship is going or what its going to bring, but if things aren’t meant to be between me and him then i just hope the universe will finally bless me with my other half this upcoming year. For now i plan to wait on him, how long? I don’t really know, for now i just want to be in love.
I hope 2020 brings happiness, joy, and blessings for everyone. May you all reach your goals you have set and if you don’t have any, i encourage you to set some, it makes life more interesting. Time truly goes by in a blink of an eye. You don’t want to wake up one day and regret not trying new things or going on certain adventures or loving someone because you were too scared of what people would think or say. Don’t be afraid to be yourself or to experience new things. Also don’t be scared to remove the negative out of your life. May time be good to you all. Happy New Year.
