My Love, My Life
Tumblr media
it’s been about a year since i deleted the tim blog (if any of you remember that) and sometimes i miss the little fandom that got me through a pandemic and an awful time in my personal life, but just as i was starting to regress haha my girl informs me that she saved one fic before i deleted the blog, so, here it is, reposted.
i doubt i’ll ever write about him again but i do think some instance of tim should stay up on tumblr. i’m very proud of the weird little guy we made and so here he is again as a reminder of good times and good friends.
//
It hadn’t stopped raining all day. It was there before he first opened his eyes that morning. It was there on his walk to work. It was there when he locked himself away in his office, during the weekly meeting, while he was trying to work. It even followed him home.
Now, it was dark outside and water still struck the windows of his little apartment. Tim watched it reproachfully. Rain was supposed to bring life, to wash away all that had gone before. To him, it was just unsettling, cruel and cold.
He usually felt safe here, in the little home he’d built for himself. He could usually just curl up under a blanket and block out the noise as he waited for sleep to claim him. But this was different.
Tim had spent all day trying to figure out why, why the cold anxiety in his chest felt even worse than usual, why it felt like there was a rope tied around his middle, pulling tighter and tighter as the day wore on.
It wasn’t until he passed the kitchen door that he noticed the date on the calendar, hanging crooked by the phone. It must have been sitting in the back of his subconscious all day.
Tim stood in his empty kitchen, watching rivulets stream down the window pane out of the corner of his eye.
He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know how to fix this. He didn’t know how he could make himself feel better. He glanced at the clock. Well, there was one thing he could try.
Lex picked up after five rings. Tim almost hung up, fearing that she wasn’t home, but just as he moved the phone away from his ear, he heard it click.
“Hey, Tim.”
“Lex-”
“Did Ellie leave her book bag at your place? She can’t find it anywhere.”
Tim squeezed his eyes shut as thunder rumbled cross the sky.
“No, I don’t think so. I’ll check.”
“She had such a good time last weekend. She keeps telling her friends that her uncle is Indiana Jones.”
That made Tim smile, his first reprieve from the noise in his head all day.
“He’s an archeologist.”
Lex sighed.
“She’s seven, Tim.”
“And a thief. Indiana Jones, I mean. Not Ellie.”
“Did you call just to rag on Indiana Jones?”
“I just don’t think he’s a good representative f-”
“Timmy.”
The nickname stopped him in his tracks. No one ever called him that, not since he was a kid. Only Lex was allowed and only in special circumstances, when she was teasing him or when she thought he was talking too much. It was her gentle way of bringing him back to the present. But the present is exactly where he didn’t want to be.
“Do you know what today is?”
She laughed softly.
“Uh, Tuesday?”
“Lex.”
“June 11th, Tim. Why? What does-”
She broke off so abruptly, he thought for a moment they’d been disconnected.
When Lex spoke again, her voice was low and quiet.
“Oh.”
Tim pressed his knuckles into his forehead, hard. He leaned back against the wall, teeth gritted so tight that his jaw ached.
He was an idiot. He was a stupid, spiteful idiot. Just because he was overwhelmed by the memories, that didn’t mean Lex was too. She was happy. She had moved on. He’d ruined everything.
“Sorry, I’m sorry,” Tim turned and pressed his head against the wall, trying to keep his breaths even. “I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“No, no, it’s okay, Tim.”
“No, you’d forgotten and I made you remember. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have called.”
“I’m glad you did. And I hadn’t forgotten. I don’t think I c-” Lex went quiet for a moment, then she asked, “Do you want to come over? We’re just about to have dinner, I could save you some?”
Tim shook his head, even though he desperately wanted to accept.
“No, no, it’s okay.”
“Are you sure? It won’t be a problem, we can just-”
“Lex, it’s fine. Thanks.” Tim forced a smile, even if there was no one around to see it. “I just wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“Well, okay. If you’re sure.”
Lex didn’t sound convinced. He wasn’t surprised. She could always tell when he was lying, even when they were little. She could read him like a book. But she knew better than to push, especially on a day like today.
“Ellie would love to see you.”
The thought of his niece made Tim smile again.
“Maybe tomorrow.”
“Love you.”
“Love you too.”
He didn’t wait to hear her hang up. Tim put down the phone, keeping his hand pressed against the receiver as he tried decide what to do.
His head was so loud. Memories of the park, of his grandfather, the rain and the mud, swarmed like bees. More thunder rolled outside but all he could see was the flash of jagged teeth, burning yellow eyes, and his sister’s screams.
Tim passed Angela on his way to the door. She watched him grab his jacket, tail waving uneasily back and forth. She gently called out to him as he walked past again, arching her back towards him hopefully, but Tim only scratched her head.
The sound of the front door slamming shut behind him echoed through the apartment.
/
You were just settling a pot of water on the stove when you heard the loud knock at the door. You frowned, glancing up at the clock on the wall. It was almost ten, who on earth could be hammering on your door at this time?
You turned down the hob till just a tiny flame remained then pulled your old cardigan tighter around your body as you moved through your apartment to the front door.
Heart pounding, you peered through the spy-hole and gasped when you saw who was there. You moved back and wrenched open the door.
“Tim?”
He was dripping wet, rainwater slid down his face and off the ends of his hair. Tim’s shirt was two shades darker than it should have been and he’d left a small puddle on your doorstep. His shoes squeaked slightly as he stepped closer.
“Can I come in?”
You stared, too shocked to move. When you regained your senses, you moved to the side, gently pulling Tim inside.
The warmth of your apartment was almost painful. His skin smarted as you guided him into your living room, leaving a small trail of rainwater in his wake.
“I’m sorry,” Tim’s voice was hoarse, his throat raw. “I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t have- You’re probably busy.”
“Shut up, of course I’m not. I’m never busy.” You squeezed his elbow, grimacing when water seeped onto your hand. “God, you’re soaked. Lemme take your jacket.”
He let you undress him, his eyes unseeing as you carefully guided his arms out of his thin outer layer. You threw it over the radiator, leaving it to dry as you went back to help him out of his shirt.
“Were you working late again?”
“No, I- I was at home and then I realised what day it is and I couldn’t- I didn’t feel- I had to get out of there,” Tim’s gaze flicked between you and the floor, his voice shaking. “And I was just walking around and I realised I was near your place and I had- I just had to see you. I-”
Your voice was gentle as you carefully began to unbutton the front of his shirt.
“Why were you walking around in the rain?”
“I…”
You paused, glancing up at him to make sure it was alright for you to keep going. When Tim nodded, his gaze fixed on you now, you moved onto the next button, carefully working your way down until you could push his shirt off his broad shoulders to reveal the plain white shirt you knew he would be wearing underneath.
“It’s been twenty-six years. Today. Twenty-six years today.”
Tim shuddered as you stepped closer, hoping you’d think it was just because of the cold and not the effect you had on him. It was the most he’d been touched in… Well, he couldn’t remember how long. It was enough to make his stomach lurch as your hands brushed his bare skin.
“Twenty-six years and I still can’t hear the damn rain without feeling like I’m gonna be sick.”
Your stomach twisted. You knew all about the incident. Tim had spoken about it only once or twice in all the time that you’d known each other, but you’d seen his scars, you knew the story, you knew how the fear he felt as a child still had its claws in him, even now.
“Tim-”
He looked down at the floor. He’d left patches of water on your carpet but you didn’t seem to care. His face felt hot, his eyes scratching. Soon, warm tears sliced through the cold water on his cheeks.
“It’s pathetic,” He spat out the words, angry and frightened and sad all at once. “Why can’t I- Why can’t I just get over it? I’m not a kid anymore, I shouldn’t be so scared all the time. I hate it.”
“It’s not pathetic,” you murmured.
There was a pause, just a beat, and then you moved closer.
Tim had half expected you to keep him at arm’s length, just like his parents, just like everyone he’d ever known, but you pulled him into a tight hug. He was soaked through and freezing, but you held him close against you, so close that he could feel your heart beating.
Then you were speaking to him, speaking to him in a voice so soft but so firm, a spark in your eyes, as you held his face between your hands.
“You went through something that no one else can understand. There’s no… Time limit for recovery.”
Your warm hands stung his skin but Tim leaned into them, wanting more, more of your warmth, more of you.
“I just… I wish I could…”
He rested his hands over yours, his long fingers completely covering your own, pressing them tighter against his cheeks.
“I know.”
Your thumb brushed away a stray tear. The thunder still growled outside but neither of you noticed it now.
“I know.”
Tim closed his eyes, taking in a few deep breaths.
He knew if he saw you, he would feel better. There was just something about you, this burning, golden light. It surrounded you, glowing stronger when you looked at him. He could feel it like sunlight on his skin. He couldn’t help but become addicted to the way you smiled at him, the shimmer of your voice, the warmth of your touch.
He could very easily stay like this forever, but he’d interrupted your evening, stormed in here jabbering about his problems, probably frightening you half to death at this late hour.
“Sorry,” he whispered, gently moving your hands away from his face. “I’m sorry, I should go.”
But your hands found his shoulders before he could go anywhere.
“Stay,” your murmured.
It was the most beautiful word he’d ever heard. Tim felt a shiver seep over his skin as your hands slipped down his arms, then around to his back.
“I shouldn’t have barged in like that-”
“Stay,” you said again, firm but gentle.
Tim gazed down at you. He wondered what on earth he had done to deserve you, he wondered how you always knew just what to say. He wondered if this is what love felt like, real love. He wondered if you knew that you felt like home to him, but like no home he’d ever known. He wondered.
“Have you eaten?”
Tim blinked, still dazed by your gentle touches.
“What?”
“Dinner. Have you had any?”
When he shook his head, you smiled and took his hand, guiding him to the sofa.
You left him for a moment to check that the pot on the stove hadn’t boiled over, then disappeared into the bathroom.
When you returned, you had a towel in your hands. You walked around to sit beside him on the sofa, shifting closer until your knee pressed against his thigh.
Instead of just leaving him to it, you began to towel his hair dry for him, moving the soft material around so carefully that Tim almost burst into tears. No one had ever been so gentle with him. You hummed to yourself as you worked, an unfamiliar tune but lovely all the same.
It was such a comforting feeling; he’d never really been looked after before. Tim had to hold in a soft moan as your fingers worked deep into his hair, moving from the roots all the way to the tips until it was no longer damp and he felt a lot warmer.
“Do you want the TV on? Music?”
Tim immediately missed your gentle touches when you stood up, his heart aching. But then you tugged a blanket from the back of the sofa and lifted it up high above his head so that it fell behind him, settling on his back. You pulled the corners around his shoulders, pushing them gently into his hands.
“Music would be nice.”
You left him on the sofa again, turning to run your fingertip along the spines of your CD collection. When you found the one you were looking for, you pulled it from the ranks with one finger, prised open the case and slipped it into the player.
Tim pulled in a long breath, and at last the tension in the pit of his stomach eased. He drew in another breath and another until he no longer felt that fearful ache. Then familiar music encircled his head with the same warmth as the blanket still wrapped around his shoulders.
‘I’ve seen it on your face, tells me more than any worn-out old phrase. So, now we’ll go separate ways. Never again we two, never again, nothing I can do…’
“I love this song.”
You smiled, laughing softly as you slipped the CD back onto the shelf.
“I know you do.”
And there it was. The terrifying, wonderful, strange truth of it all. You knew him. You knew.
You told him you were just going to start dinner but he could stay there, if he liked, in the warm. Tim agreed at first, happy to just do as he was told. But as the soft music soared around your apartment, he felt courage guide his body.
Soon he was in the kitchen with you, gently wrapping an arm around you waist.
Surprised, you turned away from the pasta boiling on the stove, and let out a relieved sigh as he pulled you against his chest. It felt so good to hold him, so good to be held by him, to have Tim’s hands on your back, his chest against yours.
“Thank you,” he murmured, turning and pressing a soft kiss to your temple.
It was just a quick, chaste thing, but it made your heart pound. You were worried he’d be able to feel it as he pressed closer against you.
“I didn’t do anything.”
“You did. Trust me.”
Tim moved away but not far, his gaze drifting between your eyes and your mouth. Thunder boomed outside but he didn’t even flinch.
He bent his head forward, his hands warm even through all your clothes.
“Thank you,” he murmured again, letting his forehead bump gently against yours.
Your breath shuddered as your eyes closed, and you bit your lip, embarrassed. Your heart seemed to be pushing against your ribs, pushing you forward against him, guiding your hands as they rose to press against his chest. You could feel his heart hammering under your palm.
“Can I..?”
He was so close now that his breath brushed your lips.
“Would it be alright if I..?”
You smiled.
“Yes.”
First his nose brushed yours, his hands smoothing down your sides to rest on your hips, then his lips just grazed your own. It was so gentle, you hardly felt it, but it was enough to set your heart racing.
You wanted more than anything to pull him tighter against you, but you waited patiently for him to move again. You would wait forever if he needed you to.
But then Tim’s hands pressed in, pulling you tighter against him, and your breath caught, lips parting as his mouth moved against yours, slowly, tentatively, but so, so, lovingly.
Tim found himself forgetting every worry that curled around his heart, every doubt he’d ever had about himself. All that mattered was you, just you and him, kissing in your kitchen on a stormy night.
You were disappointed when he eventually pulled away but he didn’t go far. You felt the tip of his nose brush past your cheek, then his forehead was pressed against yours again.
“You wouldn’t believe how long I’ve wanted to do that.”
He was warm, inviting. You didn’t want to let go. You were so stunned, you couldn’t even bring yourself to open your eyes, and when you finally managed to speak, your voice was small and breathless.
“Probably about as long as I have.”
You were so close that you were murmuring into each other’s mouths.
Tim let go of your hips with one hand, gently holding your face instead. His hands were rough and calloused, you could feel the raised lines of his scars against your skin. All you could think about was how they would feel running down your body, but that was another thought for another time.
Tim smiled to himself as you leaned into his hand, just as he had done to you.
“I came here because you’re the only thing that distracts me, from the rain, from all of it.”
You opened your eyes at last. In the low light, his gaze was warm and soft.
“I think that’s a compliment?”
Laughing softly, he moved closer still, and now Tim could feel every curve of your body against his. He felt a shiver run over his skin.
“It is, promise.”
There was a pause, just a moment, and all you could do was look at each other. Then your hands slipped up to his shoulders, pulling him back to you and you pressed your lips against his, much harder and more desperate than before, pulling at his bottom lip with your teeth, earning yourself a groan.
With a delighted laugh, you slipped your hand into his hair, pulling softly. You felt Tim practically melt against you, and you knew that he knew that you loved him, that he was safe, that everything was going to be alright, that you had him.
Tim groaned as your tongue pressed against his, moaning your own name into your mouth. His voice was so soft, almost like he was praying. He spoke your name pleadingly, quietly, kissing you so desperately that your whole body curved into his.
His hands were everywhere, excited and eager, on your back, pressing under the hem of your shirt, making you break the kiss with a gasp.
Tim took the opportunity and tried to catch his breath for a moment, his forehead pressed against yours again. He pulled in a shaky breath, hoping to settle his nerves but it had little effect.
Instead, he laughed, breathless and hopelessly happy as you pressed kisses all over his face, letting him know that you wanted him, loved him, needed him, whilst the storm raged on outside.
Instead, he just laughed, breathless and hopelessly happy as you pressed kisses all over his face, letting him know that you wanted him, loved him, needed him, whilst the storm raged on outside.

*peers over my glasses* Do I know you? 🤔 lol Is this a sideblog from a mutual or do you just have the same exquisite taste? Either way, love your blog. Your list of problematic husbands was so eerily tailored to my types that I frankly feel called out. 🫣
Hey Vinz Clortho!
I'm a Reddit refugee, basically. I would scan and lurk on Tumblr for stuff I like. Arcane has been my newest obsession and Silco in particular.
I'm awkward af and not great at being sociable especially considering how much I can hyperfixate on something and drive people nuts.
I thought I'd give it a go and just be my weirdo self and see if other weirdos were ok with my posting my weird shit.
I don't want to say I have daddy issues (I literally hate my irl dad) but damn I love older men. Old Hollywood, super morally grey dark horse or villain characters --
Well, I'm glad I'm finding my people here. This has surprisingly turned out fucking awesome. I thought I would just like/reblog stuff and had no idea I hit a nerve with, of all people, Peter Cushing of late.
For every one of my irl friends that was all about Edward, 50 Shades, or the standard hot guy, story hero, I'm over here going, yeah, I'd fuck Darkness, hooves, horns and all.

Trick or trivia
Happy Halloween! I do enjoy trivia of many types, but one of my favorite genres is what I call the Berenstein Timeline: unmade shows and movies, versions of classic movies where studios and producers made different decisions, some better, some much worse. All of these are real projects that were, on some level, considered (there are some recurring names)
"Heat Vision & Jack", a 90s pastiche of 70s-80s action shows starring Jack Black as an astronaut on the run from the law and Owen Wilson as his talking motorcycle
"Jurassic Park" directed by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp as Alan Grant, Jim Carrey as Ian Malcolm, and Vincent Price as John Hammond
the 90s "Batman" directed by Ivan Reitman; Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy were going to star but couldn't decide which of them would be Batman and which would be Robin
Back in the 1970s the American network was getting good numbers showing heavily-edited reruns of "Monty Python's Flying Circus", so they tried to sell the Pythons on the next logical step: an animated Saturday morning cartoon
"Edward Scissorhands" still directed by Burton but starring Tom Cruise or maybe Michael Jackson
"Return of the Jedi" directed by David Lynch; Harrison Ford was considering not coming back for the third movie and so when he came out of the carbonite there was a chance he would have been Christopher Walken
Guillermo del Toro's "At the Mountains of Madness". Also "the Hobbit" and lots of other things, he seems to have a lot of unmade projects
the 2010s "Star Trek" movie directed by Quentin Tarantino, where the edgy reboot crew visits the Gangster Planet from that one stupid episode of the original series
Everybody knows about the unmade "Superman Lives" starring Nicolas Cage in the title role, but did you know it was going to be directed by Tim Burton and include Christopher Walken as Brainiac, who would have been a green head on spider legs
Harold Ramis didn't particularly want to act on camera, so when they were casting "Ghostbusters" Egon could have been Christopher Walken, Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Goldblum, or John Lithgow. Supposedly the movie was originally intended to be a relatively serious exploration of Dan Akroyd's very real interest in paranormal investigation, although this clashes a bit with the fact that Peter Venkman was originally going to be played by John Belushi and Winston Zeddmore was written for Eddie Murphy who backed out when the character's backstory and most of his lines were cut
John Waters' animated series "Uncle John" on 90s MTV
the original version of "Bill & Ted's Time Van" starring Pauly Shore and Sean Penn
"Red Dragon" (the original Hannibal Lecter novel) directed by David Lynch starring John Lithgow as Hannibal Lecter and Mel Gibson as Will Graham
the 1970s "Dr. Strange" TV series
the 1990s Disney animated "John Carter of Mars"
the 1990s Warner Bros animated "King Tut" musical with songs by Prince
the serious horror version of "Beetlejuice"
Drew Barrymore's 2000s remake of "Barbarella"
the Dungeons & Dragons movie James Cameron was going to make until TSR left the table over merchandising disputes, forcing Cameron to go work on some dumb movie about the Titanic
American "Doctor Who" movie starring Michael Jackson
Canadian "Doctor Who" cartoon by Nelvana starring a Doctor based intensely off of either Jeff Goldblum or Christopher Lloyd
"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" directed by Terry Gilliam
"Good Omens" directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Johnny Depp and Robin Williams
"The Black Cauldron" using character and background designs by Nightmare-era Tim Burton

Like Buck, Shannon and Eddie would not be besties, so definitely agree with your take there. Truly if Shannon had lived and been featured a bit longer then it would have been her and Eddie trying to navigate the divorce and because you can’t have a Ryan Murphy show without drama it probably would have resulted in some other implosion, and I just don’t think Shannon was going to get to the point of being the mother that Chris needed and Eddie’s co-parent. So by extension Buck would of course be firmly supporting Eddie and Chris….legit he would be cordial at most to Shannon.
Bless you for seeing the bigger picture. <3 I think most of us can admit that the sudden focus on Eddie + Shannon's relationship in 6B was because, at the time that plan was decided on, the fate of the show still hung in the balance. Ofc Eddie has to look back on his relationship with fondness (*gag*) to show that he's looking for that "spark" again, that instant connection. And, agree with it or not - most don't - the show wanted him to feel optimistic after seeing Marisol again, which is a direct contrast to Bobby having to talk him into reaching out to Ana. (Another example of KR & co. changing the smallest of details to make it seem like this next time was meant to go differently...) But had Shannon lived? She would have gotten the same treatment as the other "outsider" parents until (as we saw in 6B) the story had to reach a conclusion. Tim has previously said that killing Shannon off allowed the writing staff to explore more of Eddie's story (the fighting arc, Buddie conflict, confessing to Bobby and the one therapy scene in 3A). This, along with the negative fan reaction that could have been swayed had she started to change by the end of the season, should have made it evident by now that there was no intention of making Shannon a better parent, or a better friend to Eddie, anytime soon. There's no drama in that. I have noticed that people get my feelings on Shannon twisted a lot (probably on purpose because I'm so disliked for...talking about my disability? ig?), but I think her characterization is good for tv. If you don't like her it's because you can recognize that she was written to be a bad mom. And those bad moms are walking among you irl! Some even live in the houses of people you know even if those people aren't telling you about it! For me and the handful of us who have actually experienced the type of upbringing this fandom saw on screen (*waves*) - and if we can be real about it, Tim went easy on her and Chris because it's a family show - the problem (the "discourse") occurs when people are earnestly co-signing her behavior because "shit, I'd probably leave, too" or repeating ableist opinions about how hard disability on the mother, *especially* while dragging parents for not understanding issues they can more easily relate to. (Yeah, we see all of it.) TL;DR Representation does not have to be positive for it to matter. It just needs to be real. And even if that reality only connects with one person, it still matters. Everyone has a story and no two stories are the same.

23 Republican Senators & 124 Congressmen signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court asking for a 50 state ban on mifepristone, a drug safer than tylenol that is standard treatment for abortion & miscarriages, "due to safety concerns". Jurassic Park
Author: Michael Crichton
Series: Jurassic Park (#1)
Rating: 9/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Goodreads: 4.1/5
Date Read: October 2023
'Because the history of evolution is that life escapes all barriers. Life breaks free. Life expands to new territories. Painfully, perhaps even dangerously. But life finds a way.' ----------------------------------
Plot Summary: A large cast of characters including archeologists, mathematicians, lawyers, and a computer expert are invited to an island owned by an eccentric millionaire. Using preserved dinosaur DNA he has recreated magnificent extinct species of dinosaurs and other prehistoric life. the island is under strict security control and all of contingencies have been planned for. Nothing can go wrong. Until it does and hungry carnivorous T. Rexes and Velociraptors escape captivity and start hunting the human visitors. A mixture of bravery and cunning is the only thing that can save the visitor's lives and some are luckier than others.
TL:DR: A book perfectly at the intersection of hard science fiction and action-adventure thriller. The fame and success of the movie, has this book to thank for a solid plot full of action and characters that you love to love and love to hate. The occasional philosophical/scientific rambling can be intimidating, but is balanced by the constantly evolving story.
Characters
John Hammond - the eccentric elderly founder of InGen and Jurassic Park, Hammond is blinded by his ambition to create the biggest spectacle in history by bringing back dinosaurs. He is determined to open an elite amusement park that will attract wealthy patrons. He single mindedly believes that the systems on the island cannot possibly fail and that his experiments are completely safe.
Ian Malcolm - a cynical and biting sarcastic mathematician famous for his teachings on chaos theory a concept that claims that nature is essentially uncontrollable and unpredictable due to the complex systems underlying the natural world. He has made the trip to Jurassic Park to see if his theories are true and to watch John Hammonds 'perfect system' fall. He's surprisingly charismatic for a mathematician and he is an iconic character for a reason.
Alan Grant - famous archaelogist who is known for huge discoveries that uncovered some of the complex group behaviors of ancient dinosaur species. He doesn't see himself as a particularly brave or heroic man, but ends up proving himself to be one of the most reliable, intelligent, and brave visitors on the island.
Ellie Sattler - a paleo-botanist who studies the fossils and records of plant life, she works closely with Dr. Grant She is a woman of action and is always ready to make decisions. She is cool under pressure and willing to take risks
Tim and Lex Murphy - the grandchildren of John Hammond, invited to Jurassic Park as props for Hammond to prove that the park is perfectly safe. Unfortunately they suffer from annoying child character syndrome. Lex screams at the hint of danger. Tim does his best and is a very intelligent boy, but he's a kid and he's useless.
Thoughts and Feelings: This is one of the most iconic science fiction thriller books for a reason and it is one of my favorite books of all time for the same reasons. Crichton's books can swing widely from amazing to terrible, but with Jurassic Park he found a perfect balance between realistic scientific detail and action packed sequences that leave you flipping pages late into the night. I have a special place in my heart for this book because I'm an animal geneticist and this book expounds at length about the genetics of creating dinosaurs and the kind of veterinary care and consideration that would go into making sure they stayed alive. I live with a veterinary student and several times she would ask me something along the lines of "But do they think about how they would vaccinate dinosaurs against modern diseases?" and I had the pleasure of turning to her and saying "In fact, they do." Is it all 100% right. No of course not. It's a book about using DNA found in mosquitoes, slapping some other random animal DNA in there and creating living breathing extinct animals. It's never going to be 100% right. But that's what makes it fun. It's about imagining a world that feels possible. Like the existence of dinosaurs is just around the corner of scientific discovery. If you have never read this book and you loved the movie or you like books that lean more towards hard science fiction than you should absolutely give this book a try.
The characters are enjoyable (for the most part. Children characters in these crisis books are always a bit of a disaster, but what can you do). The action is good. The science is good. There's corporate espionage, dinosaur hunting, dinosaur vet care, high stakes and no holding back when it comes to the vicious strength of top predators.
Ian Malcolm really likes to wax poetic and go on philosophical rants. IF that's your sort of thing than this book has plenty of it for you. If you find yourself zoning off while he talks about chaos theory and the state of humanity in the world, I encourage you to just skim a little bit and get back to it. Just let him ramble.

No Fucking Way
Chapter 5: Tiny gates and heels.
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Y/N finds herself in a unique situation where her heart wants to believe everything but her mind wants her to repress herself to prevent heartbreak. The love of her life is miraculously close enough to touch but everything stops with the question, “Is any of this real?”
Authors note: I apologize beforehand to how medically incompatible this story will be, as I am not a professional doctor, just a fanfic writer with an idea she cannot contain in her head anymore. So, please, bear with me.
The test results weren’t expected before midnight, but ‘our’ flight was at 6:30 in the morning so Marie had decided to utilize our time by packing up my stuff at ‘home’. Yes, our flight. Cillian had bought my ticket and upgraded Mom and Marie’s tickets to first class as well. And yes, home. My home apparently. We were in my ‘husbands’ car right now, which was being driven by his driver. “It’s good to have you back Mrs. Murphy.” He’d greeted. There was that name again. It made me happy and sad at the same time.
The conversation with Marie had been a revelation. I had to share the details with Dr. Sophie or any other Doctor I was going to consult in Istanbul. Plus I had to know what had happened at the night of the accident. Everyone was being so tight lipped about it. I hope they understood that it was only making me more curious. Even my phone was wiped out. Everything deleted and wiped before it was handed over to me. Only the wallpaper remained and my contacts.
Thinking about having to talk to Cillian, one on one, was giving me tingles in my stomach. I had practiced for a bit in front of the bathroom mirror before getting out. I had seen myself, completely, for the first time after getting out of the hospital. I had lost a lot of weight and had some scarring on my body as well, no doubt from the accident. It made me a bit self-conscious knowing that Cillian could even rock a sack if he had to. I had dark circles under my eyes as well, making my face look a bit faint and tired. In simple words, I could go to audition for a Tim Burton live action with the satisfaction that they wouldn’t have had to use a lot of makeup on me. I wondered what Cillian would think of this thought of mine and chuckled.
Before I knew it we had reached.
Tumblr media
The house wasn’t something I would have thought of buying for myself really. Yet, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of familiarity at all. The moment I had laid my eyes on it, I felt like I had travelled in to a memory. Everything felt slow-motioned. It looked like a house with old bones but a youthful soul. The blinds were drawn so there wasn’t much I could make about the inside of it. The small black gate screeched as I slowly pushed it open and stepped inside.
‘I am late! Fuck! He would be so mad at me. I hurriedly park the car and literally run towards the gate. It won’t open! Why isn’t it opening danm it. I look around to make sure no one is watching, especially ‘him’. He would tease me to death if he sees me doing this. And when I’m sure, I simply jump over the tiny gate and almost fall on my butt because of my tight fitted dress and heels. I was wearing them because we are supposed to go on a date right after his friend’s housewarming party here. But before I can ring the bell the door opens…’
Tumblr media
I wobbled and almost fell backwards as I was still in a daze but Cillian had caught me, “Hey! I’ve got you.” He had opened the door even before I could ring the bell. ‘What was that?’ I wondered silently. His hand lingered on my waist as he steadied me. “You okay?” he asked clearing his throat. “Yeah…” my reply was breathier than I wanted it to be. His scent was bothering me again, no, intoxicating has to be the word. It was not just perfume, it was him. Definitely him.
Marie came and Cillian greeted her and let us both in.
Tumblr media
The house was beautiful from the inside as well. Cozy, warm and inviting. The color blue could be found almost on every inch of the place, with accents of gold and beige. It was casual with a strong lacing of extravagance and elegance. I loved it instantly.
“Oh my! I never thought I would see you in this hallway again Mrs. Murphy!” an old lady with an apron around her waist rushed towards me and clasped my hands. Cillian gave her a look which made her nod and move back. “This is Grace umm… the housekeeper and cook.” He announced to me of course. Grace looked at me expectantly, as if she was waiting for me to say, ‘April’s fool’ in November. “Hello Grace. It’s lovely to meet you.” My words made her flinch. A look of disappointment crossed her face before she gathered herself. “Likewise.” She said curtly and went into the kitchen mumbling something I could not catch. We went and sat in the living room.
Tumblr media
You know how every house has its own fragrance? This one had one too. But the only name I could give it would be ‘déjà vu’. It felt like something very nearly in my minds grasp but not quite. Grace brought in tea on a trolley but I refused it. All of this was making my stomach churn. The last thing I wanted to do is puke all over Cillian’s beautiful house. “Did you talk to Ashton? Is he okay with having Y/N over?” Cillian asked Marie, once again pretending like I wasn’t just sitting right in front of him, “’Cuz if he is not, I can arrange a separate…” “Oh no Cillian. Ashton said it was absolutely fine. We would just have to keep it a secret from Ashton’s mother. You know how she is right?” Cillian simply nodded with raised brows, “Oh I do! I remember her fits of fury on your wedding quite well.” I kept looking between them. This was exactly what I’d always wanted. I wouldn’t have survived this long if my sister hadn’t supported and guided me throughout my life. So naturally whenever we’d discuss our ‘ideal man’, one of my most valued qualities was him having a good relationship with Marie. Because it was a fact that I wouldn’t ever ditch my sister, especially not for a guy and she had pledged the same. But right now, looking at them like this did not feel great. I was lost. It was as if I did not even exist. They did not even need me to have a genuine conversation.
I know in my head that I’m being irrational and silly but my eyes water up. “I need to use the restroom.” I should have asked Cillian but I looked at Marie instead. If he wants to ignore me than two can play this game. “Of course.” She instantly stood up and led me towards a bathroom under the stairs. I washed my face and breathed in and out slowly. I needed to get a grip on my emotions again. I could feel the leash slipping away. Wiping my face with a towel I went out, but instead of joining my husband and sister I decided to look around a bit. It was ‘my home’ after all, wasn’t it?
Walking up the blue carpeted stairs, I found myself in a long stretched hallway with framed glass windows on one side. There were at least five bedroom doors. I started with the first one on my left. It was a standard bedroom, obviously not used much. The furniture mostly covered with sheets and plastic. The same happened with the two other doors. But when I tried to open the fourth one, it wouldn’t open. I tried to open it a couple of times but it still did not budge. Strange. The one in the end of the hallway was a store room of sorts.
Boxes and packages covered in dust were roughly placed inside the dark, windowless room.
Just when I was about to close it and turn, a figure in the beginning of the hallway almost made me shit my pants. I yelped, “Fucking hell!” Cillian chuckled, “I was wondering where you’ve gone.” I blushed, he’d caught me snooping around in his house. “I was just looking around.” I said, trying to explain. “It was quite obvious I wasn’t included in your conversation with Marie.” I said looking straight into his eyes. It was pretty clear he couldn’t wait to get rid of me. Like Marie said, he has to be tired of waiting for me by now. A successful actor like him could get anyone he wanted in a blink of an eye. “That is not true.” He said staring right back at me matching the ferocity and answering my painful thoughts even, sort of. “Technically it was you we were talking about.” Hmm, “Technically you are right I suppose” ”You can look around all you want.” ‘It is your house too…’ he did not say it but I knew he was thinking it. The look he gave me made me look away. He gradually walked towards me and when I was certain he was about to touch me his hand slid behind me to open the door next to me, the one I hadn’t seen yet. “After you.” His smile was full of flirty mischief as he invited me to ‘our’ bedroom.

"Kim Possible" Is A Fun Comedy and Action-Adventure
Tumblr media
What if an ordinary high school girl saves the world on a daily basis, but is more afraid of her life as a teenager than any villains plotting to take over the world? Kim Possible answers that question in this well-regarded comedy-adventure series.
Reprinted from The Geekiary, my History Hermann WordPress blog, and Wayback Machine. This was the thirty-second article I wrote for The Geekiary. This post was originally published on March 6, 2022.
Kim Possible is an all-ages animated comedy, action, and adventure series created by Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle. It ran for 87 episodes across four seasons, with episodes ranging in length from 11 to 22 minutes. Even though Kim Possible aired from 2002 to 2007, and many shows have come and gone since then, it shines in its own way.
As a warning, this recommendation discusses some spoilers for Kim Possible.
Tumblr media
Kim faces off against Shego
Kim Possible centers on its titular hero (voiced by Christy Carlson Romano), a high school student who fights crime and saves the world at the same time. In fact, she finds being a teen even tougher than fighting villains like Dr. Drakken (voiced by John DiMaggio) and Shego (voiced by Nicole Sullivan). Kim is helped by her childhood friend, Ron Stoppable (voiced by Will Friedle), his naked mole rat, Rufus (voiced by Nancy Cartwright), and a computer genius named Wade Load (voiced by Tahj Mowry).
The story is mainly told from Kim's perspective, as she tries to balance her life as a crime fighter and a teenager in high school. Major supporting characters include Kim's parents, James (voiced by Gary Cole) and Ann Possible (voiced by Jean Smart), and the "tweebs" as Kim dubs them, Jim (voiced by Shaun Fleming) and Tim (Spencer Fox), who are Kim's younger brothers. Her brothers are a little like Phineas and Ferb, and have a bigger role in helping Kim and her friends in the show's fourth season.
Throughout Kim Possible, Kim faces off against Bonnie Rockwaller (voiced by Kirsten Storms), who is equivalent to Mandy in Totally Spies!. She is a rival classmate that is inconsiderate and is the complete opposite of Kim.
Kim is also helped by one of her best friends, Monique (voiced by Raven-Symoné), who helps her achieve a healthy work-life balance. In the fourth season, Monique designs Kim's new mission suit and even gets Kim a new pirate uniform in one episode. Since she knows a lot about fashion, she is akin to Tomoyo Daidouji, who designed all of Sakura Kinomoto's outfits in Cardcaptor Sakura.
When Kim, Ron, Rufus, and Wade, known collectively as Team Possible, aren't battling Drakken and Shego, they fight a variety of other villains such the half-monkey/half-man Monkey Fist (voiced by Tom Kane), Scottish golfer Duff Killigan (voiced by Brian George), German evil scientist Professor Dementor (voiced by Patton Oswald) and the wealthy father-son team, Señor Senior, Sr. (voiced by Ricardo Montalbán and Earl Boen) and Señor Senior, Jr. (voiced by Néstor Carbonell). The latter two are villains only because they are bored.
Since the show is for all ages, it doesn't have any gratuitous violence nor any mature themes present in series like Human Kind Of, Inside Job, and Disenchantment. Despite this, the show is still strong with funny jokes and situations. Even though it ended 15 years ago, the humor holds up.
The dialogue of Kim Possible is fast-paced and meant to cater to adult viewers, along with some visual jokes. This makes it similar to Phineas & Ferb, which has a spy subplot between a crime-fighting platypus and a evil scientist. Kim Possible is different because Drakken was formerly a classmate of Kim's father, making for intriguing stories throughout the series.
Unlike other Disney productions, the series is not very musical, meaning that there aren't songs in almost every episode as is the case for its more recent shows like Elena of Avalor, Milo Murphy's Law, Mira, Royal Detective, and Sofia the First. Even so, there are occasional songs throughout the series. Furthermore, the theme which opens every episode ("Call Me, Beep Me!," sung by Afro-Cuban actress and singer Christina Milian) gets you in the mood to watch each episode.
The characters, especially Kim and Ron, develop over the course of Kim Possible and realize who they are as people. This makes the viewer more invested in these characters and want to watch more episodes. Each plot, even if a simple one, is fascinating and pulls you in, building the story and making you care about what happens next. The series doesn't take itself too seriously, which makes it even more appealing.
Much of the comedy in Kim Possible comes from Drakken's hair-brained schemes or Ron's antics. Only Kazuda Xiono in Star Wars Resistance and Oscar in The Proud Family rival Ron's goofiness. He matures through the series. In the process, he becomes more romantically attracted to Kim, while she is attracted to him. He remains afraid of monkeys, making Monkey King his main arch-foe, while gaining what is known as the "mystical monkey power."
I have not seen the James Bond films that the series is parodying, nor that many spy films, but that didn't make me less interested in the show. I did see similarities between Kim Possible and the more recent Carmen Sandiego series, which has a similar set-up. I wouldn't be surprised if Kim Possible had somehow influenced that show. Unlike that show, Kim Possible has storylines which criticize celebrity culture, boy bands, consumerism, school popularity, fast food industry, fashion industry, corporate world, and not accepting other people.
Kim Possible is different from other shows in that Kim does not follow any stereotypes about women, which are often ingrained within and manifested by female characters. She can easily serve as a role model for people, just as much Carmen Sandiego in the new series about her, or Rapunzel in Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. This is because Kim has a loving family and supportive friends. She has a group of people ready to stand by her and help no matter what, even doing missions for her if she is too sick.
Kim is a bit of an optimist, as made clear by her slogan that she can "do anything." This comes to a head in some episodes as she begins to realize that she can't do everything, and she should have others help her if she is in trouble.
Similar to Adora in the award-winning series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, or Carmen Sandiego, Kim has no secret identity. Instead, everyone knows her name and who she is, which makes her vulnerable at times. Even so, she is still able to travel the world and fight evil wherever, while keeping her social life back in the town of Middleton.
The voice actors of Kim Possible are well-known for other shows, like Futurama, The Simpsons, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The show has an air of authenticity since Romano was only 16 years old when she took the role of voicing Kim, meaning that she was maturing as the show was moving forward, just like Kim herself. This is similar to what Abbi Jacobson, who voices the protagonist in Disenchantment, said about her voice acting for Princess Bean in that series.

Shego talks to Kim after saving her from Warmonga in Season 4
One character in Kim Possible stands out: Shego. Although she is a villain and a criminal mercenary, some have argued that she is a feminist icon because, like Kim, she is no damsel in distress. She is a powerful woman who often makes sarcastic remarks and can have an abrasive personality at times. She can stand face-to-face with Kim and is her match in more ways than one, as she can be cunning and ruthless. In fact, she is perhaps one of the smartest characters in the series, even able to take over the world in the 2003 film, Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time.
Sullivan, her voice actress, delivers her lines with such precision that it makes you love Shego that much more. Unlike other villains, Shego is never shown killing anyone in the series, even if she views human life in a callous way.
She is clearly a badass and has a moral compass, unlike other villains. Despite the fact that others respect her, she could care less for them. She would rather read villain magazines, file the nails on her gloves, paint her nails, listen to the latest pop music, or go on vacation. She is unique in that she possesses green energy which can be generated from her hands. She is also as agile and fit as Kim. Their fights are just as epic as the sword fights in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: Clone Wars.
This has led some fans to ship her with Kim. Kigo has over 400 fanfics on Archive of Our Own. In the show's canon, however, Shego has a romantic relationship with Drakken following the conclusion of the show and is shown crushing on various men throughout the series. In the show itself, Kim and Shego have a mutual respect for each other, even though they are rivals. Kim even worries when Shego becomes "good" in a Season 4 episode and occasionally working with her.
Shego is very popular with fans, garnering thousands of stories, cosplays, and fan art. Even voice actress Amber Romero, who voices Parsley in High Guardian Spice, gave a nod to naming her cat "Shego."
Tumblr media
Ron and Kim talk on the phone at the beginning of Season 4
The show's staying power is a testament to the fans. After the airing of the show's first three seasons and 2005 film, Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama, production on the series was halted by Disney executives. The success of the film convinced executives to renew the series for a fourth and final season, giving the series another 22 episodes, which Schooley called a "bolt out of the blue." The series makes clear that fans have the power to push for a show's continuation and can convince executives to change their minds.
The fourth season has a different tone than the previous seasons, as Kim and Ron are in a romantic relationship, something which started at the conclusion of the 2005 film. Much of the season is focused on that, and the strain it puts on both of them. The theme song is the same, but the opening sequence is different than the one used in the first three seasons.
In the season, Kim wears a battle suit, is more nimble, and is in her last year of high school, as are Ron and Monique. She also deals with the tweebs in school as they are now freshmen in her high school. Wade falls for Monique, Kim gets her own car, tries out a new crime-fighting outfit, and attempts to get Ron to eat a balanced diet.
Other Season 4 episodes focus on raising a young sibling, a shapeshifting villain, pirates, living history, job insecurity, voice-activated technology, social isolation, robots, mentorship, pneumatic tubes, babysitting, mind control, information control, lost pets, nannies, roleplaying games, high school graduation, alien invasion, and genetic mutation.
Beyond that, some of my other favorite characters include Camille Léon (voiced by Ashley Tisdale), Electronique (voiced by Kari Wahlgren), Motor Ed (voiced by DiMaggio), Will Du (voiced by B. D. Wong), Master Sensei (voiced by George Takei), Yori (voiced by Keiko Agena), and Zita Flores (voiced by Nika Futterman).
By Season 4, however, Yori's crushing on Ron has come to end, as Kim and Ron are dating. She is like a strong female character in anime and she respects Ron for who he is and is a skilled fighter. Camille is a terrible slimeball, but her ability to shapeshift into anyone makers her a worthy adversary. Motor Ed is an intriguing, but terrible, character not because of his often use of of the word "seriously" or that he plays air guitar. Rather it is due to the fact that he is a male chauvinist who has an eye out for beautiful women, like Shego, who understandably wants nothing to do with him.
Most reviews of the series are positive, but some are more critical. For instance, Lyn Mikel Brown in Girlfighting was dismayed at Kim for promoting a thin and beautiful heroine as an "average girl," the reliance on Ron, her biggest threat as Bonnie, and Kim set against other girls. This has some truth to it. Kim is a pretty and smart action hero and more cartoons have said that all body types are beautiful, not just those who are thin and athletic. However, Brown is forgetting that one of Kim's closest friends is Monique.
Additionally, there's nothing to say that Kim wouldn't have more female friends, since she has a network of people across the world who owe her favors. Some have argued that Kim is bisexual and have done so in some fanfics. They've even extended the same to Ron or to Shego.
The series has a bit more diversity, even with two White protagonists, than some more recent Disney series like Tangled and Phineas & Ferb. Wade's voice actor, Lowry, is part Afro-Bahamian and Monique's voice actor, Raven-Symoné, is a Black woman. Although both have important roles in the first three seasons, they have even bigger roles in the show's fourth season, with both going directly on missions - more for Wade than Monique. Additionally, Kevin Michael Richardson (as "Slim" Possible) is a Black man, Roz Ryan (as Wade's mother) and Sherri Shepherd (as M.C. Honey) are Black women.
There is other diversity in the cast. Adam Rodriguez (as Burn) is of Puerto Rican descent, Brian George (voice of Professor Acari) is of Indian descent, Gedde Watanabe (as Professor Robert Chen) is of Japanese descent. Clyde Kusatsu (as Nakasumi), Lauren Tom (as Miss Kyoko), and John Cho (as Hirotaka) are Japanese, while the late Montalbán was Mexican, and Carbonell is of Cuban descent.
Despite this, the show does not feature any outward LGBTQ characters even though Raven-Symoné, Wong, and Takei are gay and part of the show's cast. The closest we have are characters cross-dressing: Professor Dementor wearing a dress in an attempt to trick Kim, Ron and Wade dressing up as women in one episode, or Mr. Barkin wearing a dress on multiple occasions. If the show was to get a fifth season or was rebooted, hopefully this would improve, with complex and captivating LGBTQ characters, more diversity in the cast, and having protagonists in college like the later seasons of Totally Spies!. Some additional racial diversity in the series would also be a plus.
Kim Possible continues to remain popular, garnering a crossover episode in Lilo & Stitch: The Series in August 2005, and a live-action film entitled "Kim Possible" in 2019. Even so, it is very unlikely that it will return, regardless of the recent revival of The Proud Family. This is because the series ended on a declarative note, similar to the final episode of Futurama, except that in this case Kim and Ron graduate from high school, and the story is not starting over. However, some have pushed for another season.
Is it any surprise that Kim Possible was nominated for Annie Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, Kids' Choice Awards, and Daytime Emmy Awards? In 2005, the series won a Daytime Emmy for "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing," specifically for live action and animation. Of course, awards aren't everything, but the fact it was nominated for 15 awards between 2002 and 2008 says something about the series.
Even though Kim Possible ended over 14 years ago, it has staying power now and in the years to come. It can currently be watched on Disney+, where it is not in chronological order, or through DVDs of all four seasons which can be checked out from your local library.
