I'm not Palestinian

I'm Algerian-Tunisian. My family survived and didn't survive the french colonialism, occupation and attempted genocide while the West was looking away. Israel was supporting France during our independence war. I've heard stories from my Algerian grandmother. I saw how horrified she was when I explained to her what they were doing in Gaza. I listened when she told me that she lived that too. But my family's tragedy was just one in millions. And when I see bloodlines erased in Gaza, I tell myself "oh it lasted 132y for us it could've been your family" and because I can't stand by when history is repeating itself I stand with Palestine

In that way, I'm also Palestinian

because. because if i don't you will forget. you and your inability to confront your own prejudices, you will forget. you will use it as an excuse to ignore what is happening right in front of your eyes as millions of people around the world and right fucking here in front of you are being killed for a thousand different utterly fucked-up reasons. you will forget, and our oppressors want you to. because they will not forget. and then we will have to fight our battles alone. so don't turn away. don't look away as queer people all around the world are murdered for who they are. don't look away from the horrors in palestine as hundreds of palestinians are murdered by the day and our global governers turn a blind eye. don't look away as genocide after fucking genocide happens and keeps happening because people are tired of hearing all of the pain and loss. you know the best way to 'stop having to hear about it?' FUCKING STOPPING IT. so don't look away. i know it hurts. use it. use that pain, that horror, that fear. use it. and just keep fighting.

Don't look away. Not for a moment.

From any of it. Not one second. That's what the folks who are waging genocides in Palestine and the Congo want. That's what the folks trying to paint Nex Benedict's murder as anything but want. What every cop and lawmaker wishes you would do as they work to tighten the noose for us. Look away, and give them the time to make the perfect little death trap for us.

It's getting worse. It's all getting worse. Get your queer friends as close as you can to you, and connect with the ones around you, even if you don't know each other. Even if you hate each other (within reason), try to break down those walls and find common ground in the fact that we are living life with a gun pointed at our heads; let's start working to disarm it.

It's easier to look away, if you can, sure. Watching this downward spiral is depressing and anxiety inducing- but the solution is not to ignore it. It's to beat the shit out of it. They are killing people like us - fucking children - and the media is working to quiet it down.

I'd rather we all not die with a whisper.
