#do most artists/writers post finished works or snippets?

Asking some artists/writers that I follow:
What is the most recent thing you've written or drawn? Do you like to share sneak peeks of your work, or do you prefer to post finished pieces only?
Tumblr media
a bit late to answer this, but i got here eventually. unfortunately i cant show much of my latest work because ✨spoilers✨ but I'm working on my first ever commission piece!
i have shown sneak peeks of my work before but an issue with me is that if i post something I'll consider it done. or like, if i close the canvas? it's a finished project, I'll never go back to it again. so i try to finish my works before showing them to anyone because otherwise I'll never finish them, if that makes sense
also, sneak peaks are only fun for harder, more time consuming things.

Hi! So this is my first time sending in an ask so I feel anxious about it but-
I love your work and constantly check for updates because I've already read all your work. When you don't update I kinda have to scavenge to find other similar authors that do full length fics and not just like drabbles or blurbs or headcannons or whatever
Anyways do you have any other authors that you can recommend in the same monster x reader genre that write full stories and oneshots?
Oh noooo, lol! The struggle is so real (ὀ⌓ὀ⑅)
I don't know a whole bunch of creators, just off the top of my head without diving deep into my likes and reblogs. I am actually very specifically rabid about monster cod crossover fics the most @bluegiragi does monster cod crossover comics and I'm addicted
I definitely recommend checking out the (whatever monster) x reader tags and looking for creators who just do one monster type, they tend to have more finished series because they are focusing on one theme, imo.
@labgrowndemon is one who comes to mind, for example, has awesome, very emotionally rich werewolf fics
More generally I know some of the bigger accounts:
@monstermag is great! They just put out the winter edition and there are awesome stories in there! You can dl all the previous issues for free I'm pretty sure. You can find a bunch of different monster writers and artists in there, so that's probably the fastest way to find a bunch of authors quickly
@momolady has an impressive selection of fics. She's brilliant and there's kind of something for everyone, so many different monsters to choose from. She has a patreon for the discord and rough drafts, art, and stuff for a bunch of different tiers.
@monster-bait writes monster romance novels and I am subscribed on her patreon. I get quarterly art in the mail and her books are lovely <3 I have the beautiful prints she sends stuck all over my bulletin board
You can find some monster romance themed discords on disboard, as well. I'm in Monster Manor, which i highly recommend to find more monster fic stuff. It's pretty active and they have a bunch of recommendations for books and creators to check out. Probably most of the people on there are indie authors themselves and post different snippets and whatnots.
I also should note, as I was looking, many creators are on strike for the next few weeks, so please respect that
I hope that helps a little ^_^

What is the most recent thing you've written or drawn? Do you like to share sneak peeks of your work, or do you prefer to post finished pieces only?
The most recent thing I've drawn is something for Easter Sunday...
The most recent thing I've been writing is the crossover finale!
I LOVE SPOILERS. Like, to the point where I'll end up giving away the entire story if you let me! I'll share sketch WIPS and snippets of my writing ALL. THE. TIME.
For example!!!!
The medical masks worked surprisingly well. They kept out the spores, in any case. DvD had been worried that they wouldn't be strong enough, that they should find some gas masks or ventilators. He didn't want to take any chances, but with time running thin they had no choice. The Hand.PNG had reassured them that the masks would work for the time being.
They made their way through the halls, DvD using a torch-light feature on his tech-bō and April using her phone to illuminate the way. Mikey stumbled as he tiptoed along with them, tripping and falling to his knees, the blue spores clouding around his head. DvD stopped at the sound of his knees hitting the floor, and turned around to see if he was alright. Michael had started shaking, he was too weak to walk on his own. 'Phael was busy carrying the TNT, Leon the container of weird ninpo stuff. He could manage carrying the weightless teen...
"Micheal?" he whispered, coming over to him and gently placing a hand on his shoulder. "You okay?"
That was a stupid question. Of course he was not okay. The kid had literally died not ten minutes ago, and 15 minutes prior to that he'd used his mystic abilities to the max and run himself dry of all possible energy, as well as reopening his scars and losing a lot of blood as a result. And even before that, he'd given away some of his strength to help aid the swayed NFIF Donatello. Mikey had been run through the ringer, and it had barely been over an hour. It was no wonder he was shaking as much as he was, unable to pick himself back up.
"Would you like me to carry you?" DvD asked, rubbing circles onto his back.
Michael didn't answer, at least not verbally. After a pause he nodded softly, squeezing his eyes shut as the tremors continued. DvD turned around and kneeled in front of him, letting the box turtle slowly climb onto his back and drape his arms over his brother's shoulders. DvD slipped the boy's legs over his hips, making sure he was secure before standing back up.
"All good back there?"
He didn't answer.
"Michael?"
He gently nuzzled his face into DvD's shoulder.
"All good--" he rasped, coughing afterwards.
Right, his throat was raw from screaming and crying.
"Alright then. Let's get going."

I do like to share sneak peeks! I mostly do it when I haven't posted in awhile or when I'm looking for feedback on something.
I don't really post them on my tumblr as often as I do discord and some other places, but I think I might start trying to, seeing as I'm more active on here now.
The most recent things I've drawn are almost definitely comp interactions, but I tend to jump around between projects regularly, so here are some other things I've been working on alongside those:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left photo: some concept art and silhouette testing for the tech suit in Disconnected (one of my other Rise AUs)
Right photo: Some sketches of Amicia De Rune, the MC of a story-driven game called A Plague Tale, which my best friend and I have been playing recently. By which I mean she plays, and I watch and comment, because I'm not much of a gamer LOL
I have been trying my hand at doing more fully rendered pieces, as of late (and actually have one that's almost complete, but has been put on hold since the comp started up), but, well- Sketching and designing is the part of the process that I personally enjoy the most, so it's what I tend to default to more often than not. For the sake of adding a little color to this line-up, though, here's a snippet of the aforementioned "almost complete" piece:
Tumblr media
If you know, you know
I hope this answers your questions. :> Thank you for asking, by the way! I genuinely appreciate it. I think just about every artist/writer is delighted whenever somebody shows enough interest in their work to ask them questions about it, so what you're doing will probably make a lot of people's days - mine included. ❤

All week I told myself that on Sunday, I was going to write all day.
I opened my laptop up for the first time in two weeks. I haven't written a word since I finished editing Expensive and tried for over an hour to work on my series Like My Dreams.
I thought about it all week and have been so eager to continue it, only the words won't come.
I know it's not for lack of passion or wanting to; I think about this story (and all the other ones) constantly.
I've been trying to deny some feelings for a while, or chalk it up to getting too much in my own head, but today it's come down heavier than ever and what is ultimately responsible for blocking my creativity and turning my love for my stories from thoughts into actual sentences.
I'm lonely.
I've never felt so alone.
The Charlie fandom seems to be relatively non existent, or just extremely quiet.
I have no space. No where I fit in.
I'm on the outskirts, trying to find a spot, constantly seeing if there is a way I can have a place for my ideas, stories, and even friendship, and have it hold some value to the others I'm around.
The more I post on here, the less I feel seen.
Engagement on this platform has reduced drastically across the board, and it's effecting so many artists.
It's not about numbers. I'm sure some of you are probably thinking "your last fic has over 100 notes". Yeah. It does. Almost all of those notes are likes, and more than half the reblogs are my own.
What I'm seeking is engagement. Conversation. A likeness and kinship started by a common interest that blooms into simple conversations and thoughts shared.
Comparison is a bitch. I see so many people living the Tumblr life I wish to have. Asks, comments, reblogs of teasers and moodboards for upcoming fics screaming of excitement and praise and how eager they are to read it. People dropping everything they're doing to read the latest chapter of their friend's new fic.
I realize the many reasons why I'm in a different position than they are, but lately it's been screaming at me louder than ever that I'm lacking something meaningful or whatever I'm doing on here isn't enough.
I've tried creating a buzz around my stories. I am aware that most of the time I write for unpopular characters with a smaller fan base, so I set the bar lower but am still left feeling inadequate even when I write for the popular ones. Whenever I've shared snippets of WIPs in hopes to gain some excitement from my readers, it falls short. Usually it'll inspire me to keep going, to write better than ever and make this next fic The Best One that makes me so happy and excited to get out. (For Charlie, I'll say, and write something I'm so unbelievably proud of) and then sometimes it makes me wonder if I should bother continuing at all.
I know I am not owed anything by anyone and no one is obligated to read or comment or anything of the sort, and I am beyond grateful for the comments and support I do receive, and the friendships I've made, old and new.
I'm not exactly sure what I'm getting at here, I just needed to write it down and "talk" it out.
I've been battling the decision to continue writing but not share it. I don't want that to happen, because as much as I write these stories for myself, a lot of the fun of it comes from being able to share it with all of you.
Nothing dramatic is happening. I'm not leaving, and I will be writing again because I'm not at all done with what I have to say about these characters, I just felt this needed to be said and already feel a little lighter by sharing it.
Write your stories, comment on your favourite fics, scream with your mutuals about a photo or gif that inspired something in you, tell your writer friends and writers you've never spoken to but love their stories just how much you do... I promise it makes more of an impact than you know. 💗

This week’s writer spotlight feature is:  MuseumGiftShopEraser! They have 9 works on AO3 in the Stranger Things Fandom, and 6 of those are in the Steddie tag!
Our anonymous nominator recommends the following works by @museumgiftshoperaser:
Paint the Devil on the Wall
Conversations About Love
Now I'm A Stranger
An Exercise In Denial
Baby, You Were Meant To Follow Me
Her fics are BEAUTIFUL. When I first read Paint the Devil on the Wall I was so obsessed I immediately recced the fic to everyone I knew who would be vaguely interested in a steddie fic. -- anonymous
Below the cut, @museumgiftshoperaser answered some questions about their writing process and some of their recommended work!
Why do you write Steddie?
I stumbled into it immediately after season 4 came out. I’ve felt very attached to Steve as a character from the beginning of the show and I think I was subconsciously waiting for someone to pair him up with. I think they’re both such great characters to explore themes of dealing with expectation (either by conforming, or fighting against it) and that’s something I always love to write about.
What’s your favorite trope to READ?
Absolute sucker for fake dating. Can’t get enough of it.
What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?
Enemies to lovers! Though now that I’m looking through my AO3 I haven’t actually written that much of it. It doesn’t have to be very intense enemies, though. I just like it when characters don’t immediately get along.
What’s your favorite Steddie fic?
My brain has been forever rewired by took you for a working boy by pukner. It’s such a gentle, nuanced queer story. It feels vulnerable to me in a way that really only fanfiction can be. Can I sneak in another one?? Because everyone should also absolutely read the shame is on the other side by scoops_ahoy. It taps into this very specific kind of queer compartmentalizing, that I’ve never seen written this well. It broke my heart and patched it right back up.
Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?
I’ve been stupidly busy with my masters lately so there’s probably not a lot of writing on my horizon. I do have a wip called Doll that I’m slowly chipping away at. It’s a little darker than stuff I’ve written before. I know ‘dark’ isn’t really a trope, but I’m excited to see if I can push these characters a little further.
What is your writing process like?
Absolute chaos. I write non-chronologically, without an outline, all in the same document. I keep writing snippets and scenes until the whole thing slowly comes together.
Do you have any writing quirks?
Italicizing words for emphasis. I love it so much, you can rip it from my cold dead hands. It accidentally makes its way into my academic writing for my degree sometimes which is a little embarrassing, but I just love the flair of it.
Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?
I don’t really do schedules, it doesn’t work for me at all. I try to make sure I have a decent amount of the story written before I start posting to give me a bit of a head start, but forcing myself to finish something by a certain date is a surefire way to kill my motivation.
Which fic are you most proud of?
Probably Paint the Devil on the Wall. It was the first time I’d written the entire story before I started posting so it went through way more rounds of editing than normal. I think you can really tell. It’s also the longest story I’ve ever written (in general, even outside of fanfic). The whole project gave me a lot of confidence as a writer.
How did you get the idea for Paint the Devil on the Wall?
I knew I wanted to participate in the Bigbang and the deadline was coming up, but I still didn’t have an idea. I decided to work backwards and try to think of something that would be fun for the artist(s) to draw. I had a vision of Eddie wearing dungarees without a shirt, absolutely covered in paint and I knew I had to write something to make it happen. I set the story in 80s New York because neo expressionism is really the only kind of art I could see Eddie making. I think it suits him very well. I do actually have a background in art, though! I’m currently getting my MFA, but I’ve worked full time as an artist for several years before that. I had a lot of fun working my passion for art (and all those art history classes I had to take) into the fic.
When writing Paint the Devil on the Wall, what was something you didn’t expect?
All of Steve’s character, to be honest. The fic is written from Eddie’s POV and for a large part of it he has a very hard time figuring out what Steve’s deal is. Right alongside him, I also had an incredibly hard time figuring out his character. It wasn’t until I was working on the final chapter that he finally clicked for me. I realized very late, just like Eddie, that Steve liked him from the very beginning. Most of the enemies to lovers premise was all in Eddie’s head.
What inspired Now I'm a Stranger?
Oh boy, that was forever ago! I remember I started writing it while I was camping with friends because I liked having something to do after everyone went to bed at night. I think I had the idea for that very first scene where Steve doesn’t remember Eddie and it all sort of spiraled from there.
What was your favorite part to write from An Exercise in Denial?
That was the very first fic I wrote, right after season 4 came out! I’ve never written something that fast, I think the whole thing took me less than a week. My favorite part was probably Robin being completely exasperated with both of them. They’re such complete idiots in that fic.
How do/did you feel writing Baby, You Were Meant To Follow Me?
Ahhh… I never got around to finishing that one. I probably never will, to be honest. I wrote the first two parts quite quickly and then the idea I had for the plot spiraled out of control and I realized I didn’t actually feel like writing the rest of it. There were going to be a lot of misunderstandings and I learned that I find that an incredibly frustrating trope to write (when done for drama at least. For comedy, I’m a sucker for misunderstandings.) So I guess I felt a little in over my head.
What was the most difficult part of writing Conversations About Love?
The ending! That fic is so incredibly personal to me and I knew from the beginning that I wanted it to have a very sappy, happy ending. It was important to me to write an aromantic character getting everything they wanted, but I realized as I was writing it that I don’t actually fully know what that means. So it took a bit more soul searching than fics typically do, but it was very much worth it.
Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?
I still think the short little prologue for Paint the Devil on the Wall is the best thing I’ve written. “You don’t draw on things that aren’t yours, baby” is probably the best summary I have for that story.
Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?
Not really!
Thank you to our author, @museumgiftshoperaser, and our anonymous nominator! See more of @museumgiftshoperaser works featured on our page throughout the day!

WIP Game
Tagged by @unlifeira
Thanks for the tag!
Rules: In a new post, post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
OK I'm gonna post...um...my entire life?? LOL
Because the list is long I'm doing the tagging fellow artists & writers up front. But PLEASE don't feel obligated to play. Also: if you are a fanartist/fanwriter and you are seeing this...please consider yourself tagged if you want to play!!!
Just because I love you...LOL
@vooruitmariek @magicians4time @tbraves24 @lizardkingeliot @itsminimes @cyprianlatewood @nellie-elizabeth @yourtinseltinkerbell @wolfnprey @violetsarepurple-fuckyou
I'm choosing to interpret WIP in the most literal sense--something that's made it past the idea stage into actual narrative or art. Thus I won't, sadly, be posting my entire life...thank f***.
First off...
Secret Queliot Collaboration, a novel I'm writing in a collaboration with my favorite Queliot artist, which hasn't started posting yet. So for that one...due to the Collaboration of it all...if you ask me about it, I'll tag you when I make the first post so you can see what it is! And...I'll consider posting a tiny snip that I hope will intrigue but keep you guessing!
The following is going to be art and fic, but right now what I have is a basic sketch that only hints at what it might become:
How They Met Themselves
Here are the main Queliot WIPs which are on AO3. I'm actively posting...er...I'm always working on things...er...I WILL FINISH ALL THE FICS!!! LOL. So, I'm gonna do a link thing for those. If you ask me for a snip it'll be from the next unposted chapter!

What is the most recent thing you've written or drawn? Do you like to share sneak peeks of your work, or do you prefer to post finished pieces only?
Oh! Exciting!!!
I was actually writing two things at once earlier lol
1. A random snippet that kind of became Mikey-oriented called: Orange Slices
“We are plucked from the same branch, peeled and exposed to the elements. We may be squeezed and robbed of our flavor, but we are ever present in the crevices of their palms. We bleed into their hearts and make ourselves known. We are a force to be reckoned with, and one they can never be cleansed of.”
2. And I was writing a little bit of (a)paf ch.7
Her small head peeks out for the sling, reintroducing her to the world and her vibrant yellow stripe and matching red stripes. Her expression reflects Leonardo’s, until she makes eye contact and her frown melts away to the brightest smile.
She chirps again, high-pitched as the last but happier. She’s ecstatic to see him… but why? Why does it seem like she knows him better than he knows her?
Leonardo swallows nervously as she reaches her tiny hand to his scarf. Her tiny fist opens and closes as if begging for him to come close.
Why…? Who is he to her? What does she know that he doesn’t?
I love to share sneak peeks of what I’m working on! It helps me get more motivated when others are excited to see what comes next, and it’s fun to chat about the sneak peek I shared hehe! It actually takes a lot of self-restraint not to share too much

So. Um.
So this is the most recent thing I've drawn...
Tumblr media
This is Blipper. The cat. So glad I get to share this aha...
I like to share snippets of my writing to get people excited but not so much that I spoil everything. I do NOT like to share sneak peeks of my drawing because I have crippling perfectionism... Maybe I SHOULD to help me get over that...
Thank you for asking! I've seen this going around and I'm honored it came to me!

Fandom creators tag game
Thank you @waytooinvested and @fabulousglitch for the tag!
1. What sort of content do you create, and what is the thing you’ve made that you’re most proud of?
Proudest fic - There are a few I tend to choose from, but right now it's Even Though You're Kryptonian
Fanvid - My Rise vid
2. What fandom(s) do you create for?
Supercorp. (And a very tiny amount of Dansen and soon Rojarias.)
3. What is your current favourite ship (or brotp if you prefer), and how controversial is it?
Supercorp!! I don't think it's a controversial ship, lol.
4. For your answer to question 3, are they canon?
They are to me 😌
5. What was your first fandom, and how old were you?
My first obsession (and still greatest love) was Xena. I started watching the show a few episodes into season 1, when I was 6 years old. It was very formative.
That said, I didn't really get involved in any fandom communities until Supercorp (in early 2022).
6. What is your most unhinged fandom creation to date?
I don't think I get super unhinged, but as a pilot I did like creating this dumb incorrect quote.
7. Do you remember what started you off creating fandom content, and if so, what was it?
I was getting frustrated at not being able to find certain types of fics, and it struck me that... I was allowed to write my own.
8. Do you let people you know in real life see your fandom creations?
Yup! My partner read my first two fics in support, and several of my IRL friends have read at least one of my fics because I didn't have the good sense to keep that information to myself when I was getting started. It's mortifying lol. But my friends are very cool people.
9. How do you feel about fanworks of fanworks? Has anyone ever made something based on a thing you made?
Fanworks of fanworks are amazing!!! I've been incredibly lucky to have that happen three times (post), and gotten asked for permission for a different continuation and a podfic that may eventually happen.
10. What feeling do you most often try to evoke with your creations?
Angst. Longing. Bits of compassion too.
11. Has someone ever paid your work a compliment (in any form) that has stuck with you, and what was it?
I love each and every one of my commenters ❤️
Honestly, the compliments that stick with me most are "I came back to reread this" or "this idea is still living rent-free in my head" type comments. I think that's what all writers and artists want - to feel that their art lasted in someone's mind beyond the first time seeing it.
12. What’s your favourite thing someone else has made that you’ve seen in the last 24 hours (and link it if you can find it again!)
Technically it was more than 24hrs ago but this art by @awaitingrain is so fucking cute!!
13. Give a small sneak preview of something you’re working on right now (eg a couple of sentences of fic from a WIP, a gif set theme, a small piece of a larger picture, whatever you feel happy to share)
I have a ficlet (that's getting out of control), here's a snippet:
Lena was cozying into the warmth of Kara’s body, when Lena spoke. “I’m thinking of visiting my mother’s house soon,” she said shyly. “I want to find out more about her. Where I came from.”
“That sounds lovely,” Kara said softly.
“Do you want to come with me?” Lena asked.
Kara hesitated.
14. Have you ever seen/read anything made by the person who tagged you? If so, what was it and what was your favourite thing about it? (pick a favourite if there are several)
Both of them are on my reading list 👀
15. Do you leave comments on fandom works, and if so how would you describe your comment style?
Some of my comments are very simple, some of my comments are very long. I've tried to get more consistent about commenting ever since starting to write, because I know how important it is. Unfortunately, I also read a lot less now that I'm writing more.
16. How many works in progress do you currently have? Will you finish them all?
I have 5 WIPs! I'm very confident I'll finish them all.
17. what’s the longest it’s ever taken you to finish a fandom project?
I guess my worldkiller Kara fic took a bit over 3 months, though part of that was spacing with the Supercorp Big Bang.
I tend to write fast. One of the things I'm actually trying to do is slow down to fill out the story a bit more.
18. Describe the thing you made most recently in a way that is technically true, but also completely misleading. Link the thing if it’s published!
Lena has a bad day in the lab (Clockwork).
19. Do you ever engage with fanworks for a fandom you’re not in? Which one(s) and how did you get into it?
I totally engage in fanart from other fandoms that cross my dashboard, particularly korrasami. I don't tend to read fanfic of stuff I haven't engaged in, though.
20. Recommend a fan work from your fandom to your followers
This fanvid is probably my favorite in the entire fandom.
Suggested tag list, but there are no rules here, follow your heart.
A mutual you have never actually spoken to but think seems cool - oh there are so many of these!! I am tagging @mssirey who I don't think I've had a proper convo with yet
The most recent person whose content you engaged with (eg read a fic, reblogged art, whatever form you feel best fits) - @thealieninhiding (though by the time I finish this very long post it might be someone else lol)
Someone whose content you saw via tags/reblogs and you followed them because of it - @jadedloverart!
Someone in your fandom that you think makes cool things - @ekingston
Someone in a different fandom that you think makes cool things - tagging @thatonebirdwrites who makes korrasami stuff too
Someone you always tag on things like this - I'm not sure there's someone I always tag but I'll pick @nottawriter as one of the people I frequently tag when I do these things
Someone you have never tagged before - @rebellionbear have I tagged you before?? you are cool so I am tagging you!
Someone you would like to get to know better - @femslashhistorian
Someone who makes art you like - @awaitingrain along with others above!
Someone who writes fics you like - @luthordamnvers along with others above!

Tumblr media
hi writeblr! i’ve been kicking around on here for the hottest of minutes, but this is the first time i’ve decided to start actively posting about my writing. (this is a sideblog; you can find my main @thespacelizard, and i follow from there)
about me!
I go by Space, my pronouns are they/he, and I’m staring down the barrel of 30 with grim determination. My current pseudonyms are A.L. Thorne (for my fantasy writing), and A.L. Dusk (for my queer erotica)
Aside from being a writer I’m also an artist and a Forever DM, and I love to come up with wild characters for my campaign and then complain that I have to draw them because there is no picrew in existence that can make them.
I write a lot of fanfiction, and I post about my current ongoing series on my main blog. I intend to keep my fic writing there, and my original writing here, but if you’re interested in an m/m erotic romance featuring d/s dynamics and drow wizards engaged in deeply frustrating mutual pining, the tag over there is obedience fic blogging and the series is on AO3 here
I otherwise write fantasy novels, because I am, at heart, a Weird Dragon Kid. I also like to, of late, make them queer as hell, because I too am queer as hell, and I want to write about queer characters having all the adventures I usually read straight cis characters having.
I am a big fan of playing in the traditional fantasy tropes aisle, and whilst I do love unique fantasy worlds, there’s something about a classic set of wizards and dragons that just makes my heart happy.
My writing style is fairly lighthearted but the heart still beats quite sincerely. You’ll find fantastical places, characters who all have something Fundamentally Wrong With Them, and more one-liners than strictly necessary.
current wips!
Chronicles of Valloroth
This is the main (read: only) thing I’m working on at present, and it exists because I read too many Drizzt books over lockdown, got brainworms, and then decided to write my own take.
The series features: knock-off tieflings, a grumpy assassin and a sparkly mercenary in a rivals-to-lovers arc, knock-off dragonborn, found family, gods with very mortal foibles, A Whole Entire Dragon, magical mishaps, and an entire cast of queer disasters.
not everyone in this book is trans, but there is So Much Gender in here. it’s not a trans book, but it has trans bones, and not just because I, A Trans, am writing it.
It’s basically ‘what if The Legend of Drizzt but Gay and Also Trans? what then?’
I'll be posting a wip intro for the first book soon!
My current goal is re-drafting the first book, and getting all my outlining and zero drafts finished for books two and three. I write a lot, and I write quite fast, but good god there are so many words to get down. Just. An absolutely ridiculous amount of words.
what’s on this blog?
I intend to post about my writing progress, my characters, my worldbuilding; lots of things to help keep me motivated and to (hopefully) drag other people into Caring Too Much About These Blorbos Hell with me.
Hey, it worked for Obedience and now at least three other people are yelling at those drow boys with me. trust me. yelling at my characters is a fun hobby we can all share together.
You can expect to see:
snippets of my notes (and probably chatter about Obsidian.md, which is what I write everything in, and is my favourite notes app of all the notes apps)
Thoughts About Blorbos
character art and playlists (some of which I will probably even draw myself, because when you can draw, you simply must draw your ocs and show them to everyone)
Thoughts About The Writing Process
And i will of course be reblogging every remotely relatable writing meme i come across (which is most of them)
tags!
#valloroth blogging (for all/general posts related to the series)
character posts will be #c: [character name]
#space has thoughts (for writing thoughts, and suchlike)
you can find me elsewhere on tumblr @thespacelizard (main blog), and @incoherentmuses (art blog). i’m also on twitter @/degenerate_DM (for writing posts) and @/incoherentmuses (for art posts)
over the next few days i’ll be posting a proper wip intro for Valloroth, and i am 100% looking for writing mutuals to yell about words with. I’m also very open to ask/tag games!

FAQ
What is Malevolent Monthly?
Malevolent Monthly is a recurring event based on the “draw this in your style” (DTIYS) events that are common in the visual art community. DTIYS events are typically hosted by a single artist who asks other artists to draw a particular piece of theirs in their own style. Many artworks are then created with the same subject matter in different art styles. The motivation behind this event is to encourage writers to write something that may have a similar plot as somebody else’s but that differs in style, execution, and other things that make writers unique. In other words, “write this in your style”!
How does this event work?
Prompts will be released on the 1st of each month, starting January 1st, 2024. Writers will then have the entire month to write a fic based on the prompt. Fics responding to the prompts can be posted anytime. Participants can also send asks or submissions with snippets from their fic, and we will preview them on our Tumblr.
How do I participate?
To participate, all you need to do is write a fic based on the prompt given at the beginning of the month and post it. Fics must be based on the prompt given to be considered part of this event.
Do I have to participate each month?
Nope! You can participate once, or you can participate every month, or anywhere in between.
How do prompts work?
Prompts will be posted on the first day of the month on Tumblr, Pillowfort, and AO3. Prompts will be general enough to give you flexibility when writing but specific enough that all fics will have similar plots/subject matter. (Eg. ‘John and Arthur go to see a movie together, but it’s rudely interrupted.’)
I don’t think I’m going to finish my fic on time; can I post it after the month is over?
Absolutely! We won’t be sharing prompts fulfilled after the end of the month on our Tumblr/Pillowfort, but the AO3 collection will remain open to submissions for past prompts, and we encourage you to finish your fic even if it’ll be a bit late.
Can I write for a past prompt?
Yes! Though we won’t be sharing works written for past prompts on our Tumblr/Pillowfort, the AO3 collection will remain open to submissions for past prompts, so you can write for any past prompt that interests you and add it to the collection.
Can I submit a prompt?
Yes, you can submit a prompt! Anybody can submit prompts, regardless of whether or not you plan on participating in the event as a writer. Prompts can be submitted via our Tumblr or Pillowfort askbox.
Is there a word count minimum or maximum?
There is no word count minimum or maximum. You can write monthly 100-word drabbles or monthly 100,000-word epic novels—whatever inspires you!
Can I participate if I’m a minor (under 18)?
Sure! There is no age restriction for this event.
Can I participate if I’m not a writer?
If you feel inspired by the monthly prompt, you can absolutely create art (or other non-written creations) for it! However, as this is officially a write-this-in-your-style event, we will only be sharing written content on our blogs/in our AO3 collection.
What social media do I need to participate?
We will be posting prompts on Tumblr, AO3, and Pillowfort, so you will need some way to access or view the prompt on one of those three sites to participate. However, you can post your work wherever is most convenient for you, and you will be able to view the AO3 collection without an account, so there is no official social media requirement.
Can I co-write with someone else?
Sure!
What kind of fics can I write?
Any fic centered around the canon characters and/or world of Malevolent is permitted, including AUs, crossovers (where Malevolent characters are central to the story), and NSFW content. Writers must clearly label sensitive content (including, at minimum, AO3’s four major archive warnings) when posting. Any content is allowed as long as it is properly tagged. The exception is any content that is discriminatory or categorized as hate speech, which will not be shared by the mod team on social media or accepted into the AO3 collection.
Where do we post our works?
We will be reblogging works on Tumblr and Pillowfort, and we will also have an AO3 collection that you can post your work to. However, you can post your works on whichever site is most convenient for you.
When posting on Tumblr or Pillowfort, use the tag #malevolent monthly and tag our blog @malevolent-monthly in the body of the post so that we can see it!
How do I add my fic to the AO3 collection?
Follow the Google Doc guide here to add your fic to the Malevolent Monthly collection. Note that the collection is in the prompt meme style, so there are a few extra steps involved that differ from posting to a typical collection. The guide has pictures and step-by-step instructions that should help you post your fic successfully. However, if you have any difficulties, please send us a message.
I plan to include an image in my post/in my fic. Do I need an image ID for it?
Image IDs are highly encouraged, but not strictly required, for this event. Please consider adding IDs when applicable to increase the accessibility of your post or your fic. For a guide on how to write image IDs, please see this document.
Who are the moderators for this event?
The moderators are:
Jay (@bluejayblueskies)
Jack (@organchordsandlightning)
Rowan (@splitting-infinities)
I have another question not answered here.
Please send us an ask!

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
The lovely @crestfallercanyon tagged me for this weeks ago, and I haven't been ignoring it - I just didn't get around to it sooner. Sorry!
How many works do you have on AO3? 380 (382, technically, because two are still anon/unrevealed exchange works.)
What’s your total A03 word count? 1,123,214
What fandoms do you write for? Currently, mostly DCU, The Flash and a bunch of tiny fandoms, but I've been writing fanfic for ages, so I went through quite a few fandoms.
What are your top five fics by kudos?
a) cut me open, take my heart (DCU, JayTim, 1744 kudos) b) A Bird in the Hand (DCU, Dickstroke, 1694 kudos) c) Hook(er), Line and Sinker (The Flash, Coldflash, 1586 kudos) d) No Shortage of Blood (Original Works, Starving Vampire/Vampire Hunter Having A Moral Crisis, 1453 kudos) e) Portrait of the Artist as a Middle-Aged Man (Gossip Girl, Dan/Blair/Chuck, 1149 kudos)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I always try to, but sometimes it takes a while to get around to it. /o\
What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I have no idea. I used to write a lot of angsty stuff back when I was younger but the older I get the more I gravitate towards fics that leave the characters in a... well, maybe not necessarily in a good place exactly, because I tend to ship a lot of dysfunctional ships and write unhealthy relationship dynamics, but I don't want the characters to feel hopeless and unhappy in the end, so even when they're in a bad situation, they're making the best out of it.
A very old, very angsty fic of mine is Too Close To Touch (Harry Potter, various permutations of Draco, Harry and Hermione). I don't know if it's the angstiest overall, but it occasionally still gets comments so it's fresh in my mind despite having been written almost two decades ago.
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh no, this is similarly hard to answer. Maybe Throw Away the Plan (The Flash, Coldwestallen)? Most of my endings seem to be "the main conflict of the story is dealt with, the ship kisses and things are okay-ish for now". 🙃
Do you get hate on your fic? Maybe once or twice, but nothing dramatic or memorable, luckily enough.
Do you write smut? Sometimes.
Do you write crossovers? No.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yes! Someone copied a few of my fics word by word, replaced the names and posted them as Kpop RPS. D: D: D: I got the author to take them down, but they did it with a lot of people's fics and eventually AO3 banned them.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, a few! I blanket allow translations, as long as they're credited properly and not posted anywhere but AO3.
Have you ever co-written a fic? Yes, but it was a really long time ago, and coordinating was pretty stressful. I prefer to work on my own schedule.
What‘s your all-time favourite ship? Noooo, don't make me choose. I love so many ships! If I absolutely had to pick one, it would be Tommy/Bubonic from Eye Candy, but it mostly depends on what I'm in the mood for right in that moment.
What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? There's Coldflash BDSM fic based on a long-forgotten Tumblr prompt I would have loved to write one day, but it would be far longer than anything I'm comfortable writing and it's only 'in progress' in so far that I have a few dialogue snippets from it written down yet.
What’s your writing strengths? Character voices and snappy banter, probably.
What’s your writing weaknesses? Plot!!!! As you can see by every fic I've written where the characters get captured or attacked by some nameless villain for nebulous reasons. I always handwave stuff like that because I simply can't bring myself to care about it or put any thought into it. 😅 Sorry!
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? As a reader, It always throws me out of the story. :(
First fandom you wrote for? The X-Files! Mulder/Krycek was teenage Sandrine's first fanfic obsession. (Though technically, I wrote terrible Star Wars and The Three Musketeers fic long before I knew what fanfic was! But I've decided that doesn't count. 😅)
Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
(never been) so much at stake (OW, Vampire Moonlighting As A Barista/Exhausted Vampire Hunter In Search Of Caffeine) is probably the best, but The Biggest Score of All (The Flash, Coldflash) has my heart!
I'm supposed to tag people here, and I'm terrible at this, so @waysheswings, @sunherirai, @moriavis, @zeroducks-2, @hithelleth, @elasticella - if you want to do this, consider yourself tagged and if you want to ignore it, pretend I never mentioned your name. And anyone else who sees this and wants to answer, you're also tagged! Yes, I mean YOU. :D
