Somewhat of a follow up (400~ words)
(Not a direct follow up, but after another case to the moment prior, Donnie’s had enough of his hypotheticals)
Donnie’s hand waves high into the air as purple blocks and squares of his ninpo manifest a handgun into existence, resting in the palm of his hand. He lowers it, pointing directly at the sleeping infant’s forehead. His other hand pulls back the slide with a click, and his finger rests on the trigger.
“Donnie, what are you doing?” Leo demands, frozen where he stands as if taking a step forward will pull the trigger.
Donnie’s eyes glare at the infant, conflictions warping his expression as he grits his teeth. He answers coldly, but his voice wavers like he, too, doesn’t truly believe himself. “This Thing is connected with the Krang. That’s how you got injured—how your patrol team was ambushed. It’s been relaying information to the Krang like a backstabbing traitor.”
“He doesn’t know that’s what’s happening. He’s just a fucking baby, Don. Put the gun down.”
“You almost died Leo,” Donnie counters sharply.
“When hasn’t that happened?” Leo tries to lighten Donnie’s mood with the joke, but it doesn’t land the way he wants.
Donnie’s mouth snarls in response, “That’s not a good thing.”
Leo takes a cautious step toward Donnie, hand reaching out and hoping he can get close enough to take the gun. He tries talking Donnie into some calm so he can take another step closer. “You’re not thinking straight, Donnie, put the gun down—.”
“You’re not thinking straight! I’m the only one who’s thinking logically about this! We just reached the beginning of what this baby can do! Sooner or later, the Krang will storm in on our home base and kill is all! I’m doing us all a favor! I’m the only one actually using his brain!” Donnie takes another step toward the sleeping infant, the gun now aiming directly above the infant’s forehead.
“But you’re not, Donnie. Because if you were, you would see what I see.”
Donnie’s expression warps again, he’s furious and annoyed, but his voice urges for Leo to understand. “Bullshit, Leo. You’re too-too struck with this baby fever that you can’t see that keeping this baby alive will kill us all.”
Leo stares at Donnie’s shaking fist.
Donnie may be trying to trick himself into believing he’s removing emotions from his decision, but there’s so much logic in his brain that he’s come full circle to making an emotionally driven decision. And Donnie knows it too, whether he realizes it or not.
“Donnie. Look at me,” Leo demands, deepening his voice slightly to capture Donnie’s attention.
Attached, apocalypse au snippet
(I’ll post the other 2/3 later or idk) edit: hehe
Summary: Leo returns to the Resistance HQ injured (1165 words) (the rest posted eventually… edit: I lied.)
Leo collapses as he enters the portal, caught by Donnie as he lazily waves in the rest of the squad. Only a handful of resistance soldiers stumble through, carrying each other until able-bodied soldiers rush over to help.
Donnie speaks into his comms, “Mikey, get your ass over here.”
Leo rummages through his belt pockets to pull out a small can of beans, dirtied and bent from his journey. He hands it to Donnie with a slanted smile and jokes, “Dinner’s on me.”
Donnie shakes his head as he shifts Leo to lean on him and speaks roughly, “What the hell happened to you? Weren’t you on patrol in Deadzone P-38? That place hasn’t been touched in years.”
Leo coughs and clears his throat, holding tightly to his side. He winces when he misses a step and Donnie catches him. In a second, Donnie manifests a purple chair made from his ninpo. Leo sits down, collapsing into the mystical furniture with a heavy exhale.
He raises his arm for Donnie to inspect the wound, and finally answers, “We were ambushed. The Krang were waiting for us—,” he hisses when Donnie presses lightly on his side, “like they knew we were coming.”
Donnie frowns as he accepts a canteen of water from a rushing nurse. He makes an armrest for Leo to lean on and pushes his twin for a better look at the wound. As he tends to Leo’s wound he speaks with a calculating tone, removing emotion altogether.
“That shouldn’t be possible. Why would they be expecting your group? It’s in the middle of our safe zones, no Krang bothers to go there after the traps we’ve set. And I didn’t get any notifications signifying they went off.”
Leo sharply inhales when Donnie manifests a blade to scrape the debris out of his wound. “Don, please, take it easy on me.”
Donnie ignores Leo’s plea and continues cleaning Leo’s wound. “Were they led into the safe zone? Do we have a Case-210406?”
Leo shakes his head, looking away from Donnie and tightening his hand into a fist. He holds back a groan with clenched teeth when Donnie cuts into his flesh. “No!” His voice jumps from the pain before he clears his throat to reiterate, “No. They didn’t know about the location of one mine. The Unmarked.”
Donnie’s hands cease. He raises a brow and looks Leo directly in the eyes. “Not the Unmarked?”
Leo shakes his head as he leans his head on his shoulder, manually breathing with closed eyes. His inhale hitches when Donnie pours water on the surrounding area of his wound. “Don, that burns!”
Donnie ceases his movements as he thinks to himself, ignoring Leo’s whines and complaints.
The Unmarked mines are, as the name suggests, unmarked on their maps. But that doesn’t mean people are unaware. Every Resistance Soldier that is capable of moving and cooperating with their outdoor systems knows the locations of unmarked mines. Only outsiders, anyone not a part of the Resistance, are unaware of the Unmarked. The possibility of a traitor within the Resistance, who has access to the maps of the mine locations, is unlikely because they should know about the Unmarked. But they didn’t know…
Unless the maps were leaked? Perhaps they were forced to leak the mine locations, but managed to withhold the Unmarked locations as a last stand in loyalty to the Resistance. But Leo would have recognized the traitor because the Krang would have brought them in case of the traitor lying. Unless they have hidden the traitor and had plans to report whether the intel was accurate.
That would mean someone is missing.
“I need a headcount,” Donnie demands as he tugs on his goggles.
Leo groans and replies, “8 injured including me, no deaths.”
Donnie ignores Leo as Mikey flies across the room in their direction, and lands softly with a radiant glow dissipating from his figure. Mikey kneels at Leo’s side and Donnie steps away so Mikey can take over.
“Hey, Wizard. Got any spells that can make me pretty while in agonizing pain?” Leo jokes but bites down on nothing when Mikey’s hands burst into soft, golden flames hovering over his wound.
Donnie hears SHELLDON 3.0 report in his ears along with pulled up tabs of a map and spreadsheet of the Resistance’s population and each person’s location. “As of this minute, all Resistance members are accounted for. 8 injured, no deaths, 2 in the infirmary on sick-leave, no births, and no missing persons.”
A reminder flashes in Donnie’s memories and he asks, “And the infant?”
SHELLDON reports, “The infant remains in your living quarters, currently asleep, Master Donatello.”
Donnie narrows his eyes, suspicious of the answer and asks, “What was It doing an hour ago?”
SHELLDON answers, “Playing in your files. I had to step in and remove the infant from tearing any of the pages.”
“Were any of these papers…,” he glances at Leo, wincing in pain from Mikey’s treatment, for a second before returning his attention to SHELLDON. He finishes, “Were they maps?”
SHELLDON answers without fail, “Yes. Among the two maps, one contained the location of the mines and the other contained the minor details of the Day Patrol’s food run.”
Donnie clenches his teeth, “Thanks, that’ll be all.”
“Right-o, Donnie,” SHELLDON dismisses playfully and Donnie’s goggles turn off.
Donnie sighs. Mikey had told him about a hunch on the biology of the Krang. They were able to make soldiers, different types and categories with specific makeups to complete specific jobs. Hounds were the front-runners, they were meant to clear a path for their infantry or remove any obstacles. The mites were small, meant for infestation on the enemies’ person and infect for “zombie” soldiers. Soldiers were meant for war, obliterating everything in their path but much weaker than the original Krang.
Then there are Krang 1, 2 and 3. Siblings. The leaders of the war. The opposition. Krang 1, often referred to as Krang Prime, is the leader of the siblings and all. He is the brains and the brawn, ruthless and uncaring. But unlike his sister, Sister Krang, he’s not as ferocious. He has a keen sense of thought, methodical, while she’s instinctual. Then Krang 3, Brother Krang, the biotech. Brother Krang is the one who infects and creates. Manipulating their biology into consuming anything possible of movement and controlling it behind the scenes.
Mikey suspected that Brother Krang could… see through the eyes of the infected. Donnie had suspicions of a hive mind, like the insects they are. But Mikey had doubts because there were signs that Brother Krang was unaware of some activities that they enacted amidst the sight of the infected.
But what if Brother Krang only shared a hive mind with those he infected directly?
Donnie turned in the direction of his lab. What if the infant is connected to the Hive mind? And what if the ambush was led by an unwilling, unaware infant?

At the time of the snippet you shared, are leo and Donnie and Mikey close to Krang baby cj? Or are they still kinda iffy about cj?
It’s just a few months after Leo brings the baby to the hq!
Leo is trying to avoid the baby as he figures out how exactly he’s supposed to “deal” with the baby, Mikey is giving the baby the benefit of the doubt while surveying the actions of the Krang, and Donnie is forced to stay with the baby while he’s overseeing everything occurring within the hq and outside.
Leo’s view of the baby is cautious, Mikey’s view is “awww little baby”, and Donnie’s view is “oh gross, leave it on the floor”
