Hi Nonnie! I woke up to this and said 'they're absolutely correct'. I'd started something a few days ago but didn't know where I wanted to take it. And this prompt along with yesterday pointed me in this direction. I hope you like it! Its also unedited, so hopefully it reads well and has no mistakes lol

Daniel cackled gleefully as the wind blew through his long curls. They were driving through the hills, like Max pinky promised they would, and he was having the best time. They've been cruising for what felt like hours and when they got to empty strips of road; they’d floor it like a drag race.

Daniel’s favorite part might be when Max grabs for the hand hold overhead. He always enjoyed making his Dad do it, Michelle was harder because she knew his driving style by now. Max had been a whole new challenge, being a race car driver used to high speeds. But Daniel had been excited to learn that all it took to break Max was drifting around a blind corner going down the mountain road.

It was exhilarating.

Daniel pulled off to the ridge that had a bannister and bench– boasting a lovely view of the sunset over the city.

He all but jumped out of the sports car positively vibrating with happy energy. Chelle would call it his zoomies. He needed to sing, he needed to run with a horse! He wanted to tear his shirt off!

"Don't do that." Max came out of the car, catching his breath.

Daniel's mouth snapped shut, apparently he was singing. A bird flapped its wings overhead and landed in his curls. Daniel bounced from leg to leg, the wide grin set on his face like clay.

Max eyed him consideringly, a small smile on his face. He armed the car and slipped the key fob into the pocket of his pants.

"Hey Daniel?" It was comical how quickly Daniel's head snapped over to his direction, his brown eyes were wide and sparkling.

"Yeah Maxy?" Daniel bit the cuticle on his thumb, waiting for Max's next words. He didn't expect them though.

"Race you!" Max yelled and then he was off like a bullet. Daniel squaked in outrage before apologizing to the bird on his head and running off after the race car driver.

Max lead him into a short copse of trees where they zig zagged through the foliage in an approximation of tag. Daniel laughed joyously, waving to the different animals that came to watch or lead them in different directions. Obstacles were added by a deer that knew a "better path". And a family of rabbits wanted Daniel to win!

Before long they collapsed in a sunny spot, giggling intermittently. Max's face was flushed from exertion and Daniel couldn't look away. He knew he was equally flushed and sweaty, but Max was lovely.

"Where did you learn to drive like that?" Max broke the silence first.

"My dad taught me. I wanted to run with the horses but it wasn't the safest idea, he'd said. So we drove his truck alongside the herd." Daniel preened, Max liked his driving.

"You learned to drift because of horses?" Max's disbelief was clear. Daniel cackled.

"No!" He sang. "I taught myself to drift to scare Papa. He was always so cool and calm so I wanted to ruffle him a little. It was Joey's idea to scare him. Joey's an alpaca."

Max nodded with a snort. He could see that. Joe was always the silent luker in his calls with Michelle. Like he was watching and waiting for any slip ups. He was very protective. Max supposed they truly needed to be.

He'd only just gotten back into good graces after the video incident.

"You could've been a racer." Max said offhandedly and Daniel's eyes widened comically.

He'd been playing with the grass by his hips and before he knew it he found himself on his back with an armful of Daniel. He was hugging Max so tightly.

Daniel leaned backwards a little, hovering over Max with the widest grin, so wide his eyes almost disappeared in their crescents. Daniel positively glowed and his tattoos that had been merely fluttering in the afterglow of their playing were moving almost wildly. Wings fluttering, petals blooming, legs dancing– the works.

"Thank you Maxy. That means a lot." Was all Daniel said and Max knew that there was more to it. But he wouldn't focus on that right now. Not when Daniel was looking so lovely above him, glowing under the rays of the sun.

new year, same me?

It's a new year and things still feel the same as last year. I know it's only been a few days, but was hoping for some instant gratification. Welp, I feel the same. Maybe that wasn't a resonable desire. Just wanted to dream a little and pretend that once the clock struck 12 midnight I would feel brand new. Just like magic. poof, and there it is.

Then I thought about this quote: “You control your destiny — you don’t need magic to do it.” — Merida So what does it require? Some hard work?

I collect figures, among them Disney Princesses and I prefer to have them go together, as sets. Something very satisfying about seeing all my girls in the same style.

And the way the princesses of color are underrepresented in their figures is infuriating me more and more and more with every year, quite honestly.

Especially when they do bother to include white princesses who were released later in the same series.

Like the Q Posket "Dreamy Style" - which is the wedding dress line.

I love that line and it got me so excited and hyped because it featured all the First Six Princesses in their wedding dresses, not just Jasmine, Cinderella and Ariel, who were shown wearing them in their respective movies (or sequel, in Jasmine's case), but also Aurora, Belle and Snow White. All three who never had any form of on-screen wedding; their dresses were only used in the illustrated book continuations. So it was really cool to get these.

Now, in the chronology of Disney Princesses, the first six are followed by Pocahontas, Mulan and Tiana, as the last 2D Princesses, before we get into the 3D Princesses with Rapunzel, Merida, Moana. We're gonna leave Raya out of the conversation because she's still very new.

But Pocahontas and Mulan have been around for a very long time. And though I'll admit, I don't know if we ever got a wedding dress for Pocahontas in a book, she did get married. And I do know that we have an official wedding outfit for Mulan from her sequel. And Tiana! Tiana has two wedding dresses, so you can't even get away with the excuse that her first wedding dress keeps being used as her official princess dress because she has an additional second wedding dress.

But the line skipped right over all of these and the only other princess included is Rapunzel. Even though Pocahontas, Mulan and Tiana all are married women too.

Mulan at least has three figures, two large ones, one small one. It's not a lot, but it's at least more than the average character has.

Pocahontas got one. And you can't tell me it's about the limited wardrobe. She could have different poses. Rapunzel comes in the same dress in various poses.

Tiana got two. One of her sitting on the ground in her official princess dress and one of her... in her waitress uniform. She has so many amazing outfits. And instead of just straight-up making half a dozen Tianas - BRIDE, princess, blue ball gown, the original costume from the ball that got dirty, her 1920s dress from her dream sequence, and yeah okay also the waitress - the princess and the waitress are the only ones you make?

Moana just straight-up doesn't exist. She still doesn't have a singular Q Posket figurine. Don't tell me she's too new, because Elsa and Anna got Q Poskets of their sequel movie, which released three years after her.

And then came Rapunzel - and she is in everything. She skips the line so often and is just... included with the First Six, or even as part of them - and replacing Jasmine. I've seen sets of six figures that features the First Six but somehow managed to leave out Jasmine but instead include Rapunzel. Gee. Most of the time, Jasmine gets to stay though, because she has earned her seniority and popularity. But Rapunzel always jumps over Tiana and Pocahontas and usually also Mulan.

Don't come at me with "but Rapunzel's movie was ~more popular~!", because the Disney Princess line and name should be about that alone, and be separated from their individual movies.

Alice has more figures than Pocahontas, Tiana and Mulan. And nobody can tell me that the 1951 Alice in Wonderland standalone movie that never got a sequel or TV show is such a banger hit with today's youth that it outdoes Disney's only black princess. Or freaking Mulan.

And the majority of the princesses got the so-called Avatar Style line, which is them in their Ralph Breaks the Internet outfits - but that line is looking quite white so far too, because the ones who haven't gotten ones yet are Moana, Tiana, Pocahontas, Merida, Elsa and Anna.

I took Q Posket as the main example here, to work with some actual numbers, but I collect figures outside that brand too and this is not a Q Posket exclusive thing. It's near impossible to find any figures for Moana and Pocahontas in particular, and far too hard to find them for Tiana considering just how many perfectly marketable outfits she had.

Racism doesn't even make sense here. You already made this movie. There is so much money to make off of the Disney Princess brand by actually featuring all the princesses in it.

You chose to make all of them official princesses. You could have chosen to bury them and ignore them like Eilonwy, Kida, Tiger Lily and Megara, who are all canonical princesses too but are not part of the line. But these? These, you made official Disney PrincessesTM so treat them that way?

Tiana is getting her own TV show this year, Moana is getting her own TV show next year, so how about you start marketing them right and featuring them in all the lines where you manage to put Rapunzel in too? And put some damn respect into Pocahontas and Mulan's names too.

Got so nostalgic seeing @princessnostalgia posting 2000s Disney Princess magazines, I went and bought one second hand! This one’s from 2002 and features Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas and Belle in stories that are only vaguely tied to their movies. Pocahontas makes a dress and jewellery for her bestie Nakoma so she’s not outshined by her visiting cousins. Belle discovers a statue in the castle garden that tells her to host a Spring Welcoming Party for all the royals in the area (and Beast is at the party, no one lifts an eyebrow, the guests do not question it, don’t think about the movie). In Auroras story, a witch curses the Spring flowers so their beauty is transferred to her; she then captures Aurora who tricks the witch into turning her powers against herself and vanishing. The magazine intro states this is a fall issue, so I’m surprised by all the spring references. Cute art though!

Hey Tumblr, want to see something spooky? This is a picture of a book near my house- nothing odd there, just a street book- except there is something special about it. I hope Jenny Nicholson makes a video about the new Little Mermaid. I don’t know if it added or changed enough to warrant commentary but mannnn it looks fucking atrocious, just the absolute epitome of Disney’s recent corporate strategy of repackaging their old IPs in garbage stiff derivative movies with changes to appeal to a ‘general audience’ that work to actively worsen and devalue the source material.
