Spring has Sprung, week 5: Lookalike

I have dressed Emily to look like me! She is wearing a navy blue cardigan over a white tee, an infinity scarf, slacks, and flats. Oh and glasses too. Not very exciting, but something I would wear to work. She looks a bit like a (younger!) me; however my hair is just plain brown.

By the way. While many people are now cheering for Iran for attacking Israel, people who like to think of themselves as a spokesperson for justice. Do you still remember Mahsa Amini? Or any of the other countless women in Iran killed, or living in fear, or fighting for freedom? Do you all have short memory, or do you just refuse to acknowledge who it is you're supporting as long as they keep killing Jewish people?

This is a rhetorical question. I do not want an answer. I want you to take a hard look in the mirror and think about what you're doing.

Do you think other groups talking about bigotry against them only do so because they’ve been lied to and tricked into thinking it exists? Or do you believe them when they talk about their experiences? Why do you treat us differently? Why is it so hard for you to admit that antisemitism is a real and massive issue (especially in your leftist/queer/etc spaces)?

It’s simultaneously demonizing and infantilizing us. Some of us are Evil Wicked Sinners, and some of us are Poor Lost Souls. And the Poor Lost Souls will be led astray by the Evil Wicked Sinners unless you, a Good Pure Righteous Christian Leftist, help us See The Light. And when we push back, when we say you are wrong, you’ll get angry and hateful and violent. Suddenly, we were never a Poor Lost Soul, just an Evil Wicked Sinner in disguise. Suddenly, you can justify any manner of cruel or hateful behavior against us. Same old shit that’s been happening for centuries, just with a fresh coat of paint.

Saw a post in the Jewish tag that starts with "You can dislike Hamas without..." "Dislike Hamas?" "Dislike"? We are not talking about a celebrity or TV show here. We're talking about a terrorist orgination that wants to wipe Jews of the face of the earth. You don't think it goes beyond a little more than "dislike"? Yes, don't be Islamophobic. I'm in agreement of that fully and always have been but ooooh... "You can dislike hamas" like this person is giving me fucking permission to not like the people who would kill me on site. How dense are people???

I fully agree with you. The thing is, for many people it is almost like they're talking about a TV show or a celebrity. I've seen many people say how the online discourse surrounding I/P sounds basically like fandom discourse, and it's true. Many people aren't directly affected by it so I guess they don't understand the full scale of it. Also they might be antisemitic or have antisemitic biases, which also doesn't help. So they view it as almost a show, where they're just spectators watching it from the outside. They talk about it like they'd talk about a piece of media. Because for many people that is just what this is.

I know this has been said before, and y'all aren't gonna listen to me when I say it, but you can't be bigoted to bad people. Like you don't get to call Marjorie Taylor Green an NRA whore, or misgender Caitlyn Jenner, or be antisemitic to Ben Shapiro. It doesn't work like that. Not being called slurs is not something people earn by being a good person, it's something you do because YOU are a good person. And if I'm being honest, it shouldn't be that hard for you to do. You shouldn't want to say these things to ANYBODY, even if they are the devil incarnate.
